Nader Calls for Bush-Cheney Impeachment
EmailABC News’ Yunji de Nies reports: Independent presidential hopeful Ralph Nader spoke outside the White House Friday, calling for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
Nader said the President has, "dishonored the White House and brought a pattern of waste."
"A wasteful defense is a weak defense and a weak defense, inspires waste," Nader said.
Surrounded by a handful of supporters, holding signs which read "From Katrina to Iraq, Colossal Failure," and "Resign Bush-Cheney, Like Nixon-Agnew," Nader charged that the President and Vice President are currently committing five impeachable offenses, on a daily basis, including: criminal use of offense against Iraq; condoned and approved systematic torture; arresting thousands of Americans — denying them habeas corpus and violating attorney/client privilege; signing 800 signing statements, precluding the president from actually having to follow the laws he signs; and systematic spying on Americans without judicial approval.
Nader also had criticism for the 2008 Democratic and Republican presidential candidates, calling Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., the "corporate candidates."
Nader, 73, announced in February, 2008 that he is running for president again.
"If Democrats can’t landslide the Republicans this year, they ought to just wrap up, close down, emerge in a different form," he said at the time, arguing that as president he would take on the "bloated military budget," reform labor laws, repeal the Taft-Hartley Act, and target corporate crime.

Nader, has run for president as an independent in the past three presidential elections in 1996, 2000, and 2004. Many Democrats believe he was one of the reasons then-Vice President Al Gore lost the 2000 election to Bush. Running on the Green Party ticket, Nader won more than 97,000 votes in Florida, where Gore ultimately lost to Bush by 537 votes.

but then again it might not be a bad idea.
If we could keep the House Dims busy with such a witless activity they might have less time for the usual idiocy from the likes of Waxman, Conyers, Waters et al.

hannah – tomjoad is correct, and I am a lifelong republican. The message that it will send is that we abide by the rule of law namely our constitution. There is no weakness in that. You mention 9/11. 9/11 was a direct result of anger towards our screwing in their sandlot for 50 years. We have done considerable harm to many people over there so it is not surprising that they would take up violence against us. Think about it.

Okay, what’s next? Maybe Nader and rep. Cynthina McKinney should run togeter….and pick Jesse Ventura as secretary of state….That should do it…

@MIguy: I didn’t realize she was recovering from anything other than chronic stupidity, and since there’s no cure for that I believe her prognosis is very grim.
I’ve also been shouting Nader for years, but my voice is drowned out by the folks screaming about their jobs (or lack thereof), what with MI being in the direst of straights in the country and all. Maybe if people would stop and think for once: hmmmm…… CONSUMER ADVOCATE on one hand versus CAREER POLITICIAN on the other……
We did nothing to stop any of it, keep voting these fools into office, so its time to take our medicine. Maybe after enough people get tired of the taste, they will start putting officials into office that will actually do more than line their own pockets. Unfortunately, stupidity is not only chronic but contagious.

Dear Mr. Nader. By all means run for the US Presidency this year. The Democratic Primary will soon be over and things will get dull again. Throwing your hat into the ring will surely liven things up especially on the Democrat side.
P.S. I just saw a 1964 Corvair that I am thinking of buying. My oldest brother bought one brand new with the Spyder package and I just loved riding in it. Do you have any advice on this model year?

You’ve been out there making speeches, doing interviews and writing articles and have written at least three books in the last 6 years. And you’ve been writing weekly commentary on the things that really matter, at http://www.nader.org .The question is where has the Press been on these important matters you discuss? where have the “Talking Heads” been on corporate crime and the profiteers of this war? I will be voting for Mr. Nader in November, and I’ll tell you why, but only after I tell you why I WILL NOT vote for either of the major party candidates. I will not vote for McCain because of his stance on…well…pretty much everything. I find him to be pompous, ignorant, misogynistic, arrogant…and I could go on and on. The thought of him running this country makes me want to pack and move to Canada ASAP. Obama, on the other hand, supports the war crimes that are going on in Israel against the Palestines, and I just can’t in good conscience vote for someone who obviously has no conscience themselves; mind you, he was against what was going on over there until he decided to run for president, which makes him a flip-flopper, as well. Nader, on the other hand, is a straight shooter. I agree with just about all of his stances on things, and the thing that strikes me the most is that his message has never changed and it has never wavered. He has a track record of standing up for the little guy, and I happen to think that that is what this country needs. Many say that I will be wasting my vote, but I think that voting for someone that I can’t respect is more of a waste than voting for someone who very well may not win. Also, it won’t be a vote taken away from Obama, because I won’t vote for him anyway.

To all you guys in MI – we live in IN, and it is getting really bad here, too. We can’t afford food sometimes and our kids wear hand-me-downs, but they’re about to kick us off of Medicaid! Something has got to give, or I’ll have to drop out of college and get a dead-end job. This is why we need someone like Ralph in ofiice. Someone who actually gives a sh*t about whether my kids can go to the doctor when they’re sick or not. Nothing is going to change unless we make it happen, people! Thomas Jefferson (arguably one of the finest minds of his time) once stated “Every generation needs a revolution.” They had theirs in the sixties, and I think that we’re about due for another one. I think that we can wage it over the Internet and by word of mouth, though, and that it can be a fairly bloodless, but highly productive revolt that would only work if everyone got on board. We have to face the facts that we have been lied to our entire lives and we were just to lazy and complacent to see it until it started strangling us and stealing food from our children’s mouths. We have to do something!

I said long ago it was only a matter of time before things evolved from a single-state recession here in MI to a national recession, and so much in the news seems to be proving me right. It’s been bad here for some time, and as the national economy goes in the crapper, the situation here gets even worse. As if our record unemployment rates weren’t bad enough already, multiple companies have announced closings or permanent layoffs in MI, contributing further to our decline. BUT, our state income tax was raised to cover budget deficits (curiously enough, approved in late 2007 but applied retroactively to all income earned in 2007), sales tax extended to cover additional services, and we’re still having budget crises.
Ain’t it grand? I hope the voters of this state who voted for that toadstool of a governor are satisfied with where she’s helped to lead us. (My biggest laugh has to be that she’s in Hillary’s right pocket!!!! So if Granholm supports Hillary, even if I weren’t a Nader supporter, I wouldn’t vote for Hillary based on principal – anything Granholm wants MUST be bad for me!)

I saw that presentation on C-Span yesterday, that boring channel got interesting in the past months and I saw Ralph Nadar’s speech about Bush’s impeachment. So I decided to donate $25 just because I liked everything he had to say. It was like he was reading my mind. I never donated like that before in my life on a spur of the moment basis and if I wasn’t so darn broke I would have given $100.

I hate this election.
So many of us are forced to vote for RN (ok so I voted for him twice in the past and felt damned good about it but that was then, this is now) as a vote against the other incompetent boobs that are running.
I refuse to vote for McCain being a “C” (as he likes to refer to women)and among other things like oh everything from his inability to stand by his principals to being a Bush-like war monger. Oh yeah, that will be great for the economy while tossing away more American lives. Does the fact they he collects trophy wives say anything about the man? You sir, are not presidential material.
HillBillary – don’t get me started. The thought of her as President makes me ill. This is a person who has consummately demonstrated that she has no principals at all and will flip flop back and forth like a dying fish on any issue rather than take a stand and ultimately will do what’s good for her and her alone, no matter what it takes. (Including flashing her cleavage and crying). Oh yeah, what a great president she would make tearing up in a low cut top at an international summit to get her way. As a woman I find her throughly offensive. And as I woman I would love to see a strong, intelligent, resilient woman in office. I really wish there were one on the ticket. You madam, are not presidential material.
And then there is Obama. This candidate I so hoped was going to be the evolutionary step this nation needed to take but he has proven to be no better that the other 2. The fiasco with his ‘former’ pastor was far too telling. As a person of color there aren’t enough words to express how disturbing and offensive the whole mess is. Add to that, this is a man who like Bush probably hears voices (they call them ‘god’) telling him to kill people (they call it war on terrorism). And there has been a lot of side stepping and political shenanigans in this campaign that just make my skin crawl. You sir, are not presidential material.
So RN, if I have to vote, it is going to you under duress.

I am with you 100%. If it was any average Joe who causes such hardship to so many people, they would be doing big time. It is about time some one credible take these guys to court – Soon to be 5,000 of our kids were sent home in “Body Bags” from an unnecessary war – the “Real Deficit of the USA is in the Hundreds of Trillions of Dollars” – We are owned by the Chinese, Arabs and Europeans – they probably control 60 to 70% of American Assets. Where are we going? Mr. Nader, you should ask the GOP the very same question and they must give you realistic answers. Thank you Ralph Nader, your activism and perciverence is greatly appreciated. I really have to buck the trend, here, and point out that Ralph Nader rubs a lot of people the wrong way. He consistently comes across as condescending, arrogant, and angry. Impeaching Bush and Cheney is a fantasy. It ain’t gonna happen.
It amounts to little more than an attention-getting ploy by someone who is brilliant, but cursed with an ego to match his IQ.
The ability to belittle one’s opponents is a poor substitute for the ability to convince one’s opponents to see you as a leader.

Sure he has ego; if he didn’t, he would have fallen into obscurity. It’s too bad that people don’t know what a GREAT sense of humor he actually has; however, he’s dedicated to fighting the scraping and sometimes raping of our sensibilities by the career politicians and the corporate execs who enjoy their favoritism. While the likes of Jon Stewart and Colbert can make great fun of our cowardice to stand up for the greater good, Nader cannot find the humor in it. His life work has been dismantled over the last twenty years – work that would have saved us from the China toy scare, the further pollution of our potable waters, the devastation of small family farms to the grip of corporate agriculture.
It’s hard to think about the future, but Nader has been doing it for at least 40 years.

Nader is an anti-corporatist Empire candidate and the only real ‘democracy advocate’ choice.
Nader discovered in the 2000 campaign that his positions are fully supported by the 90% majority of ‘working class’ Americans —- where the real definition of ‘working class’ is anyone who makes more from ‘working’ than from elite financial speculation.
He will use this unquestionable truth about the majority in the 2008 campaign to bury the dying ‘corporatist Empire’ which controls our country through the facade of a two-party ‘Vichy’ government and ‘Vichy’ media.

I’m living my life, simply. I rebuild older PC’s to give away to folks who can’t afford one. I teach co-workers (on my own time) to use, setup, and troubleshoot a wide array of audio and video equipment so that as our industry changes, they will have job skills to compete. I drive a car that gets 30mpg – and I’ll drive an electric car sometime in the near future (even if it only has a range of 60-100 miles on a single charge.) I work really long and infuriatingly unpredictable hours at a job I love, interacting with people who range from Bill Gates and Hillary Clinton to Soccer Moms and Kindergarten Teachers. I recycle, reuse, and conserve. I don’t own a television. I don’t shop at Wal-Mart, McDonalds, or Starbucks because small businesses need my support more than corporations. I’m supporting whichever Democrat gets the nomination rather than tossing my vote away on a candidate with NO realistic chance of being elected, because I believe a partial win for my country is better than a well-intentioned waste of my vote.

Nancy Pelosi is going to lose her seat in the next election due to her lack of action.
Conservatives should want the opportunity to impeach him. He has caused more harm to the republican party than any politician in History. A vote for impeachment would at least give the dieing breed of conservative politicians a chance to keep their offices a little bit longer.
I would much rather see Bush and Cheyne both charged with treason and executed. Of course this would require proof the trillion dollars in government contracts, as a result of the Iraq operation, were premeditated. I guess its just coincidence PaPa Bush’s companies profited billions from the Iraq war.

Bush and Cheney BOTH need to be impeached first, along with several other members of our current government – then they need to be TRIED AND JAILED for war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes against our Constitution!!!
I take high offense against that last paragraph of this story – Bush DID NOT WIN against Gore – the election was stolen from him and handed to Bush, of course using his little brother’s state to do it and using th people of Florida as scapegoats for it!! We had a Bush for Governor – do you really believe we wanted his brother to lead our country??!!! And on that note – there are only 2 companies in the U.S.A. that make the voting machines and count the votes – and the owners of BOTH of those companies are related – they are family!! How fair is that? They should also be investigated and brought up on charges if anything warrants it. It is high time everyone be made accountable for their actions.
