Obama Campaign: “We’re Not Trying to Stir the Issue Up”

On This Week with George Stephanopoulos Sunday, David Axelrod, the senior strategist for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, denied that his campaign was "trying to stir the issue up" over Sen. Hillary Clinton’s controversial remarks about Bobby Kennedy’s assassination.

Watch HERE.

But, as George pointed out, the Obama campaign had sent to reporters the transcript of Keith Olbermann’s commentary from Friday night’s Countdown on MSNBC (Watch that HERE) which eviscerates Clinton.

"As far as we’re concerned this issue is done," Axelrod told Stephanopoulos.

So does this square?

She drives her own bus. Can’t blame the Obama campaign for her words. With that said, I think that her comments are being overblown. This site in particular likes to harp on dumb snippets of the politicians.

Go ahead and blame Obama for everything. Soon he’ll be blamed for the terrible weather conditions all over America. Remember Obama’s small town gaffe? How did Hillary handle it? It became one of her talking points & she branded Obama an “elite”. Have u seen how Obama handled this issue? If Obama had said the same thing do u think Hillary would have given him a pass? Hell no.
She said it, she knows why she said it and she alone should take the blame for her gaffes period.

This has become pretty typical of Hillary and her campaign. She makes an absolutely stupid remark and then blames everyone else but herself for the backlash.

Posted by: Tom | May 26, 2008, 10:24 am 10:24 am

Of course it doesn’t square. Of course Obama’s campaign was behind every effort to take a remark — ill thought out as it may have been — and completely twist it into something it was never intended to say.
And ABC you’re helping. By the way, have you ever noticed how, if the HRC campaign makes a remark, the headline is “claims,” or a similar word? But if it’s the Chosen One, he gets a much more even-handed word, such as “says,” or even the semi-colon, with no slant whatsoever.
Very interesting…

It’s Hillary’s own words.

Peace you’re 100% correct. She also mentioned that sniper fire nonsense about four seperate times. Then she finally got called out on it and these Hillary lovers will have you believe it’s nothing but bullying. The fact of the matter is that when you say the same thing numerous times it ceases to be a gaffe. It ceases to be a momment when the reporters caught you off guard and fatigued.

Should we be surprised? Obama – A Change you can’t believe in.. The same old politics… He’s an expert when it comes to smear campaigning….

Have any of you nitwits who support this women [sic] not caught on to the fact that this is a constant tactic by her? She knew damn well what she was saying and that there would be a backlash over it. It then gets everyone talking about her and bashing her. Then she can play herself off as the poor little victim who everyone is so hard on and who everyone treats badly.
Posted by: Tom | May 26, 2008 10:40:44 AM
It’s not this women, you nitwit. It’s this woman! Go back to school!

Hillary Clinton!
This is NOTHING compared to what the Hillary campaign did to Obama after his bitter comments.

Posted by: Stacey | May 26, 2008, 10:52 am 10:52 am

Only an idiot would compare the 57 states comment to someone siting the assassination of Robert Kennedy. Not to mention the fact that Clinton used the RFK example several times before.

Posted by: Tom | May 26, 2008, 10:53 am 10:53 am

Pass the blame…again said, “The MAJORITY if democratic voters DO NOT want Hillary as our nominee!”
********
I hate to point out the obvious, but the majority of voters have actually voted for Hillary. Of course, all of their votes have not been counted. Chalk up another point to Obama’s low-road campaign.

Posted by: David H | May 26, 2008, 10:57 am 10:57 am

Now the Obama camp has the audacity to say the issue is done! They stirred up the pot and pushed this outrageous story which dominated the news over the 3-day weekend. It does its damage, and then in the final phase they trot Obama out to say his usual “I take Sen. Clinton at her word that she meant nothing by it.” And Axelrod says it’s over. But it’s not because it shows how Obama and his campaign operate. They pushed and promoted a story in which they maintained that Hillary Clinton was suggesting that Obama might meet the same end as RFK Jr. The approximately half or more of the Dem Party that voted for Hillary Clinton will not soon forget this!!

Posted by: hopesprings52 | May 26, 2008, 10:59 am 10:59 am

Wasn’t there a book published that detailed the assasination of George Bush? Did the press get excited? Did Olbermann go spastic? Are MSM in Obamas corner?

Posted by: bud | May 26, 2008, 11:03 am 11:03 am

I used to watch Keith Olbermann until he started using his air time to campaign for Team Obama. No matter how you look at Hillary’s gaffe, it does not compare with questions that have been raised about Obama’s leadership and radical mentorship by Rev Wright and others. Voters will remember that! Axelrod needs to leave his dirty Chicago campaign style back in Chicago.

Posted by: sue | May 26, 2008, 11:05 am 11:05 am

Obamabots just do not get it. When Obama was an unknown he piled up delegates in meaningless Red states. That is why he is ahead in delegates now. Once people got to know what he was really about he started losing, and losing in important states.
Hillary was just the opposite. In the early primaries people voted against her because of the baggage she carried from the 1990′s. Once she became known for who she really was she started winning big, in important states.
The Obama campaign knows that Hillary’s popularity is trending up, while his is falling, despite the fact that the press is nearly 100% against Hillary. This latest assault is a sign that Obama fears Hillary, and will do anything to kill her off.

Posted by: David H | May 26, 2008, 11:06 am 11:06 am

Don’t you just love how the Obamabots used to be crazy about the Clinton’s and how now they trash talk both of them every chance they get? They are so loyal aren’t they? As soon as a person of their color got in the picture they turned on her. Not all of them did but 92% did. They aren’t paying attention to the issues and what this radical will do to this country.

Folks should understand that unfortunately the real power in these situations belongs to those in charge of the rules and the content. The Dem Party leadership is all in with Obama so they will not come down with any rule or stipulation that doesn’t end up giving him the nomination. The mainstream media is all in with Obama so they will consciously or unconsciously act in every way possible to try to drive Hillary out of the race. It should be remembered that despite these incredible obstacles, 8 other Dems or so have already dropped out of the race and Hillary is still standing. Go Hillary!!

Posted by: hopesprings52 | May 26, 2008, 11:11 am 11:11 am

Obama was an unknown he piled up delegates in meaningless Red states.
——–
You maen like my “meaningless” state of VA? Doesn’t “every vote count” for you folks now?
I actually think it’s YOU that just don’t get it. The electoral map will be different in this election. VA will go for Obama as well as others.
This is a futile discussion anyway, Hillary has lost. Obama will have the delegates he needs in the next two weeks. McCain is the only one left to beat.

Posted by: Meaningless States? | May 26, 2008, 11:14 am 11:14 am

everyone please read david h. comments
he is exactly right.
exactly right. and the obama people know that is the way it happened.
obama and his people know there is really nothing to him
and they are amazed they are where they are today, and now they must do anything they can to try and hold on.
but the other sad thing about it is
the dnc and the msm know this, and they are still going with this.
they are not real patriots at all.
but the america voters who keep voting for sen. clinton are.
she is the only one between the two of them who really knows the issues and how to deal with them. she is the only one who can talk plainly and without a script about how to solve the problems.
obama in his speeches only repeat to people what they already know. and then starts to attack sen. clinton and now he has started to do the same thing with mccain.
obama is not ready to be president.
the only reason the dem party thought they would get away with this stunt is because they saw how dumb and easily duped the american voters are.
so they have just about managed to pull the wool over the voters again.
bush and rove did it so lets let obama and axelrod do it.

I also saw this as a huge sign of desperation by the Obama camp. They simply can’t put her away so they have to manufacture and promote the horrific claim that Hillary is promoting another assassination. The Obama camp used the nuclear option. It was an outrageous twisting of what she said. As people have said it was straight out of the playbook of Karl Rove!!

Posted by: hopesprings52 | May 26, 2008, 11:24 am 11:24 am

Hillary actually has more voters per delegate than Obama. The caucus system was designed to disenfranchise actual voters. You might be able to game them (caucus’), but the General Election is a different matter. 1 person/1 vote. Voters will remember that they were ignored if Obama becomes the nominee. He’s not ready. His swing through Florida may have drawn big crowds, but his words were all over the place. He contadicted himself over and over, yet the media decided to overlook it. The Republicans have been taking notes. Obama told the Cubans that he wasn’t for lifting the embrago when just 4 weeks ago, he was for lifting the embargo. He told jewish voters that he was a supporter of Israel, they are receiving information about his ties to the arab world (Rezko and Company) and his willingness to talk with Hamas, etc. He can’t keep his stories straight. Why did he have to stop debating? Because he was starting to get some hard questions when the debates were from other outlets than NBC. He’ll have to debate in the General and his hopey, changey message will not cut it.

Um. The Clintons have been dogged by murder conspiracy theorists since long before Obama showed up on the scene.
Trying to claim people’s suspicions were created by the Obama camp is foolish.
Google Vince Foster and see for yourself. Hillary was both advantaged and disadvantaged by being a Clinton.

This absolutely does NOT square. This has been a pattern with the Obama “Change” campaign from day one. They are running out of ways to hide Obama’s total incompetence. And to “Polls”…Yesterday’s Gallup Poll had Hillary ahead of McCain who is ahead of Obama in the GE. Read it and weep. He won’t be able to buy delegates in that race.

George W Bush lost in 2000 and see how bad it is for the country.
If Obama gets the nomination, then the results will not be pretty. President McCain will send his nominees to the US Supreme Court. Of course, Obamabots will complain how the Clintons sabotaged the Election.

For Clinton to even allude to an A-word scenario is despicable, as low as her campaign has gotten and that’s pretty low.
I don’t blame Obama staffers for reacting. It’s to Obama’s credit that he put a lid on them, brushing it off as he does all the campaign nastiness and keeping his mind on the important matters, like the country’s problems.
But Clinton’s mind-set is scary mean. We certainly don’t need that kind of personality in the White House again.

Posted by: Dema | May 26, 2008, 11:54 am 11:54 am

the big story the media never told is how often, how insistent and how ruthless has the obama campaign been against the most fundemental right people have in our democracy: the VOTE!
the obama campaign fought against and tried to suppress the VOTE every single chance they’ve got.
the obama campaign knows that superdelegates do not VOTE until the convention! the obama campaign knows that even the pledged delegates do not VOTE until the convention. the obama campaign knows that obama will lose the popular vote. the obama campaign knows that they cannot get the winning number of pledged delegates. and yes, the obama campaign knows that obama lost the VOTE in FL and MI.
we all know why the obama people are doing this – they know that obama is behind in the popular vote! they know that obama cannot get to the winning number of pledged delegates! they know that obama cannot get the sufficient number of electoral votes in the general election! they know all that and they are trying to make people believe something else so that they can suppress the vote.
we VOTE in this country and that is how we elect people!
LET DEMOCRACY RUN ITS COURSE!
LET PEOPLE VOTE!
COUNT ALL VOTES!
Investigate MSNBC and Huffingtonpost.com for illegal in-kind campaign contributions to the obama campaign!

Roger what exactly do you mean? Hillary is losing in the delegate count and there’s no conspiracy. Obama has won more states and it’s simple as that. Hillary changed her tune from the start of her campaign when she said the delegates are all that matter. Now all she harps on is her fuzzy math popular vote.

Posted by: Tom | May 26, 2008, 12:02 pm 12:02 pm

sen. clinton should take this to the convention-she should see this through all of the process. for history’ sake,
i think history will judge she was right and carter, pelosi, dean, kerry, and all the others will not be recorded favorably. she is doing what she has done her whole life. paving the way for the next real female presidential candidate and with sen. clinton going through all of this-future female candidates will be able to look back, learn, and know exactly what to do.
everyone knows she is the smarter between the two.

Not so much.  But, it only took them a little while to figure out that what they really wanted to just walk on by that one.  That’s not exactly the natural reaction of a politician or political camp in the heat of political battle; the natural reaction is….  Well, I think I know what the Clinton camp would have done with such a gaffe.  But it only took Obama’s campaign a little bit to figure out that they wanted to just walk away from that.  I actually thought they came to that conclusion fairly quickly, all things considered.

Here’s another Axelrod fake-out, as reported by Newsweek:
“When Illinois utility Commonwealth Edison wanted state lawmakers to back a hefty rate hike two years ago, it took a creative lobbying approach, concocting a new outfit that seemed devoted to the public interest: Consumers Organized for Reliable Electricity, or CORE. CORE ran TV ads warning of a “California-style energy crisis” if the rate increase wasn’t approved—but without disclosing the commercials were funded by Commonwealth Edison. The ad campaign provoked a brief uproar when its ties to the utility, which is owned by Exelon Corp., became known. “It’s corporate money trying to hoodwink the public,” the state’s Democratic Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn said. What got scant notice then—but may soon get more scrutiny—is that CORE was the brainchild of ASK Public Strategies, a consulting firm whose senior partner is David Axelrod, now chief strategist for Barack Obama.”

Hillary is going to take this to the convention because we deserve the right to have the most qualified candidate who is knowledgeable on policy and world affairs. Obama has run a campaign based on brass knuckle politics. He campaigned on politics whereas Hillary campaigned on issues. Obama and Axelrods attempt to beat Hillary down with sexist, personal attacks has backfired. Include in his campaign method the attempt to intimidate Hillary supporters by having his surrogates and supporters personally attack Hillary’s support, ie BITTER<BIBLE,Hysterical women etc. It has been a low class vicious campaign from the onset and it all came from the Obama camp strategy. My question is why did the media help in this regard? MSNBC was of course the worst but CNN and others followed suit.

Posted by: irma | May 26, 2008, 12:25 pm 12:25 pm

I have little doubt that though Hillary may not be vindicated in this election cycle, she will be vindicated by history. It’s similar to the way Bush may have got his 2 terms, unlike his Daddy, but Gore has and will be vindicated by history.

Posted by: hopesprings52 | May 26, 2008, 12:26 pm 12:26 pm

Well it’s interesting that when Obama made the bitter comment Hillary and McCain both joined together to jointly attack him and kept at it for weeks, and that wasn’t seen as “stirring it up.”
But when the Obama campaign wishes to point out the commentary from someone else talking about the beyond the pale and horrific comment from Hillary basically stating she hopes Obama gets bumped off so she can get the nomination that is seen as “stirring it up.”
Well regardless of the reality of that statement I hope the Obama campaign keeps bringing up this story, because Hillary has gotten away with so many low attacks against Obama while he takes the high road (i.e., The Somali Picture, Shame on you, Change you can Xerox, Not a muslim as far as I know, Mocking his speeches in Rhode Island, mocking his supporters, saying she has a lifetime of experience and McCain has a lifetime of experience but Obama just has a speech, pushing the VP idea when she in 2nd place (and she still is), states he won aren’t significant (only big states matter), elitist comments (which is absurd given that she’s the 100 million dollar person), using Ferraro as her attack dog, etc..).
But her RFK assassination comment is so monstrous, so egregious that she shouldn’t be allowed to forget it, nor should the media, for one day. So I say that they should keep pushing this story until Hillary is pushed out of this race. Because once you bring up the subject of assassination in reference to your opponent you shouldn’t be allowed to continue your candidacy.

Posted by: Robert | May 26, 2008, 12:26 pm 12:26 pm

Comparing the reaction “bitter” comments to the implication that Clinton was implying the wish for Obama’s assassination, and at the same time disrespecting RFK ?
No where near the same.
I remember watching on TV when Bobby Kennedy won the California primary. I remember the stunning horror of his being shot. I was 14 at the time. This was just another horrifying blow, and seemed to be an awful continuation of what (in my mind) was started when JFK was assassinated, followed by riots, followed by the killing in Vietnam, followed by Mlk’s assassination…
To imply that Hillary Clinton, another DEMOCRAT! was actually trying to invoke this in order to harm Obama, is just beyond believing.
The reaction of the Obama campaign was what brought up “trauma” for me. The huge sweep of deliberately choosing the worst possible interpretation. It was beyond politics.
No, Obama is not to blame for Hillary’s words, but the Obama campaign had everything to do about turning this into an unforgivable action.
A compelling call to a new way of politics, a chance to be hopeful and positive would be hard to resist. This country sure needs that kind of change.
If it were more than words, it would be manifest in the actions of the Obama campaign and its supporters.
I wonder how many other people like myself who intended to vote Democratic regardless of the candidate are now having second thoughts.

A while back when Wrights comments were being debated no one who goes to church, I mean any black church, stated the obvious. Never in my life did our pastor use profanity while preaching. Never! Nor did our pastor preach hate. The presentation was one of “class” and “taste”. One can easily make valid arguments and points without meeting it’s parisheners in the gutter in order to get a sermon across. Is this really the route our party wants to take? Crass, brassknuckle politics? Or do we want to maintain the dignity we have as a party who does not need sensational behaviors and remarks because the causes, the issues are profound enough to be represented by sound, reasonable debate in order for people to choose?

Posted by: irma | May 26, 2008, 12:30 pm 12:30 pm

Tom,
This is a delegate race that includes delegates from caucuses, primaries and super delegates.
You cannot say I am ahead in pledged delegates, so I have to be the nominee. It is an argument just like I am ahead in popular vote argument.
Also, Hillary agreed not to include Florida and Michigan when it was thought it would make much of a difference to the nomination process. When the nomination fight turned out to be close, Hillary tried for a revote and Obama did everything to stop a revote.
If you think Hillary’s supporters will vote for Obama after knowing his antics regarding Florida and Michigan, think again.
I hope every Hillary supporter vote against Obama. The next time the democratic party super delegates should think twice before dis-enfranchising any voters. Also, what’s the deal with caucuses. Scrap them for primaries.

Posted by: Roger Miller | May 26, 2008, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm

correct robert,
obama WILL try to keep this going and anything else other than the ISSUES (that is where he is his weakest)
right up to nov.
we can talk about anything except the issues. and the strange thing is he has convienced his supporters not to focus on the issues either.
they don’t ask him any questions about what he will do to bring about this change. and they get mad if anyone else ask him. they say “just trying to trip him up” or “that person is a racist”
yes by all means obama stay on sen. clinton and her remarks and then stay on mccain and his remarks, and no one will ask anything of you.

My post was not completely posted as typed; I did not end with BITTER as a comparison to the Historical Reference. They are no where near in comparison. One is an attack against voters. The other is a comment the Obama camp wants to twist in it’s typical brass knuckle negative form.

So let me get this straight. Hillary herself agreed to and signed off on the terms of punishment if Florida and Michigan moved their primaries to an earlier date. They move their primaries and get the exact punishment Hillary agreed to. Now that she’s behind she’s crying about Florida and Michigan. Not only that but her and her supporters are blaming Obama for what she herself also agreed to. Am I the only one who sees how ridiculous this is?

Posted by: irma | May 26, 2008, 12:38 pm 12:38 pm

Bottomline for me:
1) if you think Hillary Clinton, who involved herself in a lifetime of good works based on the powerful inspiration of the Kennedys was calling for Obama to meet the same fate as RFK, then please vote for Obama, since he pushed that story so hard;
2) if you think the Clintons are racist after a lifetime of advancing civil rights causes and devotion to fighting for equality and social justice, then vote for Obama, since he pushed that story so hard; and
3) if you think that the Bill Clinton administration was bad for this country in the same league as the Bush administration, then vote for Obama, because he has pushed this concept very hard from day one.

10) She is a power hungry monster, will do anything to get elected, Ex: PR to get their voting status!

See this attitude stems from the top down. Even as supporters for Clinton or McCain now are made the Obama supporters spend hours upon hours changing and misrepresenting the comments of regulars on these blogs. They claim we used words and phrases for arguments that would never be utter by someone like me or other posters I have seen. They call anyone who makes remarks in support of their candidate names. They ridicule people for their honest concerns rather than engage in mature, responsible, factual debate.

My best friend told me to-day that he thinks the on timeline statement of Hillary Clinton of Bob Kennedy being assassinated, settled to-day through out the press as not intentional in context, is used to stir up negative to help make the spectre of Rv. Wright fade away.
Right no one talks about that any more.
How about getting to some real issue?

Worldcitizen,
RC and O said a lot of stupid stuff but I didn’t see any of it as a direct threat to Hillary Clinton. The Bosnian sniper thing refers to Hillary’s claims to have gone into Bosnie under sniper fire.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | May 26, 2008, 12:55 pm 12:55 pm

The angery, bitter statements from Obama’s support, the desperate attempt to push a story that has no rational conclusion from the Obama camp, the aggressive attempt to convince people that this primary is over along with the rampant attacks and name calling from Obama supporters only serves as clear message that the Obama camp knows Hillary’s argument of electability has solid ground and cause for concern. The SD’s need to make a choice filled with wisdom and concern that is for the good of the party and to the benefit of those who have serious needs to consider for reform.

If you do not like Bush’s policy to continue, you should choose a Democratic candidate who can beat McCain in November. Obama cannot win, but Hillary can, as indicated in the following latest polls:
5/24 Newsweek Polls General Election: Clinton 48% McCain 44% (Clinton +4%)
Obama 46% McCain 46% (Tied)
5/17 -19 USA Survey North Carolina: Clinton 49% McCain 43% (Clinton +6%)
Obama 43% McCain 51% (Obama -8%)
5/22 Rusmussen Polls Nevada: Clinton 46% McCain 41% (Clinton +5%)
Obama 40% McCain 46% (Obama -6%)
5/22 Quinnipiac Polls Ohio: Clinton 48% McCain 41% (Clinton +7%)
Obama 40% McCain 44% (Obama -4%)
5/22 Quinnipiac Polls Florida: Clinton 48% McCain 41% (Clinton +7%)
Obama 41% McCain 45% (Obama -4%)
5/21 USA Survey Missouri: Clinton 48% McCain 46% (Clinton +2%)
Obama 45% McCain 48% (Obama -3%)
If FL and MI delegates are not seated properly, Hillary should continue the fight, because that is the only hope for the Democrats to win in November. Do not follow Carter. He does not have the winning strategy.

After all of the underhanded tactics that have been used against the Obama campaign against the Clintons, there is no way Bill and Hillary Clinton should ever campaign for him if he gets the nomination. I sure couldn’t put all of the personal attacks and backstabbing behind me; more power to them if they can. If it hadn’t been for the extraordinary media push for Obama, he would never have won Iowa and we would not even be having the crazy discussions that we are having over simple remarks that the media is having a feeding frenzy over. I blame a lot of the negativity this year on the mass media, as they have totally ignored real journalistic integrity in order to push the candidate they want elected. Let’s see how long they are loyal to Sen. Obama if he does get elected and they start slamming him for not implementing the change mantra that they have helped create. This whole election has been really sad to watch, Americans are so easily manipulated by the press and don’t bother to think for themselves most of the time. I wish all of them the best, because who in their right mind would want to run for President after seeing the hate and viscious attacks they have to put up with just during a primary among their own party members.

Posted by: dwc | May 26, 2008, 1:45 pm 1:45 pm

The Gallup poll shows Hillary maintaining a healthy lead over McCain and Obama losing to him. The daily trends against Obama are, moreover, growing increasingly negative. The guy can’t and won’t win in November. Hilary is getting stronger in the polls even as they are writing her off.

Gotthold Ephraim Lessing said that a heretic is someone who sees with his own eyes.
We all need to become political heretics. If the adversarial political process were not so tragic, it would be funny. I have been fighting for the conservative cause for more than 40 years and have come to the conclusion that it really doesn’t matter for whom we vote. We are always going to have 435 bloated pigs in the House and 100 bloated pigs in the Senate. Every politician is against the deficit, and yet we have a deficit. Every politician wants to cut pork from the budget until it comes time to a vote to eliminate “earmarks” from our legislation. Is it surprising to any American that there was bipartisan support to retain “earmarks”?
I supported Bush and the Republicans, because I wanted smaller government. Did Bush give us smaller government? Does it benefit the country to reduce taxes if Congress is not going to reduce spending?
Are any of our politicians ready to address our $37 trillion unfunded social security liability? Fix our borders?
People, we have been duped. Many of us believe that it makes a difference for whom we vote. However, after the confetti has been swept from the floors of the convention centers and the ballons have gove flat, it is always back to business as usual.
John Adams said that Our Constitution was made only for a religious and moral people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.

Mike, noted in HuffPo…
Jerry Brown stayed in the 1992 race against Bill Clinton. Bill had the nomination by the numbers in March 1992, however. Kennedy’s campaign was four weeks long in 1968. Kennedy stood for hope and change. Jerry Brown raised money with an 800 number, a new idea at the time. These similarities to Obama and his ties to the Kennedy story correctly led people to connect the dots. Was Jerry Brown hoping Bill Clinton might get shot? No, and he never said as such. Does Hillary Clinton want to hang around in case Barack Obama gets shot? That sounds like what she’s implying, because there is no connection between her campaign and any part of her non-apology. The only timeline of note is the June assassination.
Tapper has noted Obama has made some gaffes, but none of this magnitude.
Was Clinton sending code…a rumor going around. Are they all sleep deprived? She made this comment more than once…the media was asleep, so she loses this defense. Is Clinton reckless…obviously yes, which stops her chances for the presidency.
By some odd chance, a News Corp outlet – The New York Post – happened to catch a bit that others in the media (see Kath Seelye in The New York Times) could not get or just missed. The Post is a Fox outlet. Which repeated the story to Drudge, since no one caught on to it. That Drudge post would have led to it going worldwide by itself. Obama’s people have every right to be mad, in light of both Clintons dodging and weaving and realizing they reaally blew it this time.

I respect Hillary now more than ever.
Hillary has proven that she is a fighter, and that she is willing to fight on– no matter what the odds are against her.
Unlike Jimmy Carter, who conceded the 1980 U.S. Presidential Election before the polls closed– which caused many Democratic voters to stay home and many Democratic candidates to lose close races, Hillary Clinton will be a strong president, who will not back down when fighting for our interests.
For those who quit easily, this is why you haven’t accomplished as much as you could in life.

Posted by: USmarine0331 | May 26, 2008, 2:04 pm 2:04 pm

The broadening of Obama’s appeal for the nomination seen in Gallup’s May 16-18 polling is fairly widespread, with the percentage favoring him increasing among most demographic categories of Democratic voters. However, as a result, certain groups that were already highly supportive of Obama for the nomination — men, 18- to 29-year-olds, postgrads, and upper-income Democrats — are now overwhelmingly in his camp. Obama is currently favored among these groups by a 2-to-1 margin, or better, over Clinton.
At the same time, support for Clinton among some of her traditionally stalwart support groups — women, Easterners, whites, adults with no college education, and Hispanics — has fallen below 50%.
The only major demographic group still supporting Clinton to the tune of 51% or more is women aged 50 and older. This group’s preferences have changed little during May, at the same time that Clinton’s support among younger men (those 18 to 49) has declined by nearly 10 points.
Bottom Line
After nearly 20 grueling weeks on the campaign trail since he shook up the Democratic primary race by winning the Iowa caucuses, Obama has finally stretched his lead over his chief rival into the teens.
Having previously captured nearly the maximum level of support from black voters, Obama’s latest gains have come from a broad spectrum of rank-and-file Democrats. At least for now, he has expanded his position as the preferred candidate of men, young adults, and highly educated Democrats, and has erased Clinton’s advantages with most of her prior core constituency groups, including women, the less well-educated, and whites.

The interesting thing that Keith Olbermann pointed out that Hillary mentioned the RFK reference since at least March! This undercuts her explanation that RFK was top of mind when Ted’s illness was announced.
Her explanation is another “Bosnia under fire lie” where she claimed she was tired and said it once but she actually said it repeated several times over months.
I don’t know what she is up to, but the fact that RFK was assassinated had nothing to do with his campaign in June as far as her argument goes.
Additionally, if you piece together her claims of contested campaigns in June only in one of the five cases did a Democrat win! That was Bill and that was due to a 3rd party candidate taking away Republican votes in 1992.

Members of the Kennedy family are incensed over Hillary Rodham Clinton’s invoking the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy to explain why she’s staying in the race – and they think it could be the death knell of an increasingly desperate and sloppy campaign.
“That comment may be the last nail in her campaign’s coffin,” a Kennedy relative told The Post. “How can Hillary even use the experience argument when she repeatedly pushes the wrong buttons in her comments?”
An insider added, “I think people really felt that a line was crossed and that her campaign – and even her legitimacy as a politician – ended today.”

Help me understand the issue here if anyone care by answering this question. What is the connection/relation between HRC’s reason, as is being put forward for staying in the race and the “assasination” of Robert Kennedy? Why was the assination of Robert Kennedy brought up at all in this false case/analogy?
Let us all easily agree that Hillary is very smaart and delibrate. By extension we can also easily agree that she would not have mentioned something at this stage unless it was to make point. So the question to be answered again … What as the point of mentioning the assasination of RK in a proven false analogy?
Now let say that she mis spoke. Then why did she not come out straight up and say ….” folks, in review, what I said was plain stupid. It just did not make sense. I just don’t know where that came from…. tra la lala la……
That honesty wouldhave done it for me. But she didn’t. Instead she comes out tries to give the typical “I got caught in the Bosnia lie” response. Worse yet her team is now trying to spin this into “it OBAMA who caused it” scenario.
Imagine I use to love and respect this lady… God! it had to have been very sinful on ones part to have wasted such time and emotion on the Clintons.
These folks need to go away for a while if not forever.

This whole RFK thing is totally blown out of proportion. It highlights the problem Obama has, and that is hypersensitivity to comments made by anyone even though they don’t mention him. Clinton never even mentioned Obama like Bush never mentioned Obama but, mind readers they are. They think everything is aimed at Obama. AND everyone is already thinking that Obama might be a target, which is another problem, so Hillary just said what everyone is already thinking anyway. So blast away, you can’t say anything in this country anymore, especially about Obama or you are a traitor or renegade, it’s just stinks. RFK was assasinated in June, that’s a fact. GET OVER IT!

Senator Obama is the most inept candidate to ever run for high office. He can not make a rational speech without a teleprompter; he forgets where he is. He says one thing in front of one crowd then changes his whole opinion before another. Her still has racism instilled in his soul from 20 years with Dr. Wright. He is a total radical left wing extremist who does not want all the votes to count. He needs to be sent back to his corrupt Chicago district for good. I don’t know one person who will vote for him.

Keith Olberman is the biggest loser on TV today. I watched him once, ONCE was enough to realize what a total scum he is. He was fired from ESPN because he could not get along with anyone there because of his radical beliefs and his penchant for not knowing when to shut his mouth. I do not watch MSNBC because of him and Matthews, the two most bigoted, one sided people on TV.

The Kennedy family were not incensed over Hillary Clinton’s remark about the June timeline. You Obama supporters should really stop distorting other people words. You are becoming more nasty as it appears your god has no chance at winning the big prize. I can’t wait for the day when Obama is sent back to his corrupt Chicago for good. Did you read the press release put out by the Kennedy family?

The fantasy of the “new politics” is clearly on display over the Hillary comment. It was the Obama campaign that pounced on her comment sending emails to reporters that had a link to the NY POST (such a fine publication) which said that Hillary was comparing “the dead man to Barack Obama”. So an analysis of her comments that was strictly based on hype got into the mainstream by the likes of the insane KO et al. But in order to keep the appearance of being “above the fray”, Alexrod appears on Hardball saying that he doesn’t think she meant to imply anything like that. Her comments had absolutely nothing to do with Barack Obama, but that’s exactly what they wanted you to think. Axelrod has played Rovian politics from the beginning, but say they don’t. And our media just accepts that as fact.
I came across a New York Mag article from Jan 08 that offers a little insight into the mindset of the delusional KO about he thinks of the candidates:
KO: “Hillary: “When I interviewed her, she didn’t seem preprogrammed. It was like she had gone to Hillary boot camp: ‘Don’t answer like that. Smack! Answer like this.’ If she doesn’t Alex Rodriguez everything, she may get through.”
Obama: “At the end of our interview last October, he asked me who I thought was going to win the World Series, the Cardinals or the Tigers. I told him the Tigers. And he said, ‘Yeah, I think they’re going to beat them fairly easily.’ At that point, I realized, ‘He’s from Illinois, and downstate Illinois is Cards territory.’ He was willing to pick against the Cardinals on national TV. He’s willing to say, ‘You’re not going to agree with everything I say.’ The politician who can do that is the one who is going to cut through.”
What brilliant analysis, KO. And ever since then, he’s been ascribing only the most favorable meanings to everything Obama says and does, while doing to opposite with Hillary.
What a jerk.

Come on! George Stephanopoulos is nothing but a Clinton pawn. He showed his stripes in that last thing ABC referred to as a debate. Guess he is wanting a cabinet slot and it isn’t happening.
Hillary is the one who made the comment. As a friend of mine says…if you say it you thought it and it was in your heart. She said it and she meant it. She didn’t expect the repercussions. She just wanted to “float the thought”, “plant the seed”. Now she is making herself out the be the “VICTIM” of her own words and thoughts. Only a Clinton thinks that way.
Hillary, American can’t afford to have a VICTIM for Presidnet. Your ranting about being treated badly by the media, about sexism and Bill is ranting about some kind of a stupid cover up conspiracy. Pathetic. This is just disgusting to watch.

Hillary only made a comment using the Robert Kennedy campaign that ran into June as an example. A campaign should not be over until all the voters have cast thier votes. Hillary will probably win the popular vote and she is not hurting the party because the people make up the party and more want her than Obama. This comment of Hillary’s is nothing to make an issue out of unless your mental status is running on a very low curve.

All this talk about Hillary should quit makes me wonder about Obama supporters.
Do Obama supporters quit, run away, or give in when things get tough?
They don’t seem to understand that Hillary is a fighter, and that she is not going to quit, run away or give in, like they would.
America doesn’t want a president with a quitter’s mentality.
Jimmy Carter, like Obama, thought he was smart and smooth enough to persuade America’s enemies, like Iran, to negotiate in good faith.
Iran played him like a fiddle, and Jimmy Carter was perceived by America’s enemies as a very weak leader, which is why Iran humiliated America with the Iranian hostage crisis.
Hillary is not a quitter, and she has proven that she will fight on no matter what the odds against her on.
Obama is another Jimmy Carter, who thinks that he can outsmart radical Islamic fundamentalists, Putin, and other leaders, who are ready to take advantage of his hubris and inexperience.

Trying to make an issue out of Hillary’s comment is stupid. I believe is is so stupid that it is below normal stupidity. If this came from the Obama campaign I can understand why.

Posted by: Anders Scooper | May 26, 2008, 3:00 pm 3:00 pm

From very beginning the Obama camp knew that they can not beat Hillary on substance. Every debate, Hillary showed definite more knowledge, more experience than Obama. They only debated between them two three or four times, and Obama has been too scared to do it again after his poor performance in PA debate.
Obama camp has been using character assasination to win this primary. From SC, they fed the press and pressed people to come out suggesting Bill’s comments and Hillary’s comments are racist. They have a series memos to lead people to interpret and twist other people’s words in a best fit their strategy. A lot of people felt turned off by Hillary’s campaign — exactly, Obama camp tried their best to make Hillary’s campaign bad. All the so called dirty politics appeared in both campaigns: robo-calls, false mailers. Some how the media is all focused on Hillary, everything she said, everything she did was analyzed to an insane degree. Yet, Obama’s double standards are perfectly OK. Hillary’s 3am call ads was slammed by the press as fear mongering. Yet, Obama’s camp is OK to use sweeping character critism of Hillary: most secret politician, untruthful, deceitful, etc. Hillary’s ads only ask people to make their own judgement while Obama’s camp has been involved in driect treatening– the media is not reporting the treats that the Hillary’s black delegates are facing (there was one report on NPR), Obama camp has been saying there will be riots if obama is not nominated.
While the media is obessed with Hillary’s simple and straight historical reference, Obama’s gaffes have been totaly ignored. He has been a one-man gaffe machine recently. I am more and more convinced that he is not only inexperience he is also very ignorant.
I will not vote for him. And I have convince five of friends to not vote for him either.

Michelle’s “first proud of America”
Wright’s “GD America”

There are outright statements that every one can understand their meanings. Yet Obama tried to make them “snippets” and asked us to understand them within “context”.
Mr. Obama, why can’t you use the same standard when it comes to interpret Hillary’s words? Her words made perfect sense within context, yet you made your best to suggest they were somehow of evil meanings.
The media is all to happy and playing along.

Typical Obama campaign tactics saying one thing and doing another. Obama rides high on hypocrisy and playing politics while feeding the American voters his pabulum of ‘change’. He continues, in his community worker mode, to work the crowd…proclaiming he is a different kind of politician all the while practicing politics 101.
“Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has endorsed Mrs. Clinton, defended her remarks in a telephone interview Friday evening.’I’ve heard her make that argument before,’ Mr. Kennedy said, speaking on his cell phone as he drove to the family compound in Hyannis for the holiday weekend. ‘It sounds like she was invoking a familiar historical circumstance in support of her argument for continuing her campaign.’
Mr. Kennedy said he has been traveling and had not seen the video or read Mrs. Clinton’s comments, but said his support of Mrs. Clinton has not wavered.
But he added that the protracted fight for the Democratic nomination would only last ‘two more weeks.’

I am so SICK of the Obama campaign pretending to take the high road but the advisors/strategists behind the scenes are constantly putting out memos to the press. They did the SAME thing with the Bosnia issue. Obama claimed his campaign only brought it up when asked but the press KNOWS they were getting almost daily memos regarding the issue, trying to keep it alive and well.
The Obama campaign is SICK for trying to use this incident to their advantage. If they were truly concerned for his well being and safety they would seriously drop this. Obviously they are using this as political leverage and that is beyond disgusting since Clinton had NO intention of suggesting that she is staying in the race in the hopes Obama gets killed.
Absolutely disgusting. Kudos Obama. You have now painted both Clintons and racist murderers. Job well done.

The Obama Campaign have a real problem on their hands; that is, it has angered Hillary supporters with their dirty campaign tactics.
For example, the Obama Campaign have told African-Americans, “You must vote for a “brother” or be a traitor to your race”, while accusing whites who vote for Hillary of being ignorant racists.
Now after insulting Hillary and her supporters for months, they want Hillary and her supporters to quit, give up, and to concede the presidency to Obama.
I got news for Obama supporters; that is, you reap what you sow.
There is no way on God’s green earth that I’m voting for Obama– even though, I am a long-time Democrat.
I will vote Red, White, and Blue, or what is best for America, instead of always voting blue, or Democrat– especially when Far Left Obama and his left-wing supporters have taken control of the Democratic Party.
Obama may expect Hillary to tell her supporters to vote for him, but I got more news for him and his Machaevillian Campaign; that is, millions of Hillary supporters already know Hillary will be pressured to support Obama if he becomes the Democratic nominee, but our loyalty to her does not obligate us to vote for him.
Obama’s chances of winning Florida, Ohio, Nevada, and other key states, which he needs to win the General Election, are poor.
If Obama is pinning his hopes on winning the General Election by persuading Hillary supporters to vote for him, he should have ran a cleaner, more civil campaign.

The only thing that the repubicans needs to win is to give the details about that the Clintons were abused in the primary, then McCain can offset all the black community votes more than enough.

The Obama campaign, like the rest of us, stood by and listened to her insist, on a daily basis, and primarily in a state vital to Dem general election interests — Florida — that, like the suffragettes and abolitionists before her, if she doesn’t get what she wants it will only be becuz it was stolen from her. This is her message during the waning weeks of the campaign. This is how she continues to divide the party in two.
The gaffe, however inadvertant, was the last straw. I would guess that the Obama campaign has been furious with her for a good week or two. This only added a little more heat to that emotion. Their reaction seems relatively mild, given the context.
And by the way. The Clinton campaign pimped the ‘bitter’ remark for weeks, and Senator Clinton did much of the pimping herself. So there’s that.

We need change that is the Fact!
—-
No one is denying need change. But getting obama into WH doesn’t gurantee change will come. In fact, I don’t trust him to bring change, or the right kind of change, to this country.
1. He has no records showing he can do so. His records in IL state senate and US sentate are very thin. His IL bills were handed to him by the political godfather there. There are enough reliable investigative writings out online that you can read.
2. He is politics as usuall. His state senate campaigns belied his words of “being clean and above”. I believe his president campaign adopted a good strategy of “clean” campaign, which is indeed as dirty as anybody else’s. He won by tactics. He is just a politician who speaks well.
3. He lacks leadership. Staying in an intimate relationship with Wright doesn’t show his leadership and judgment. There is also Rezko.
In one word, his actions belie his words.
As to Hillary, she is not perfect. She doesn’t claim so. At least I am confident that she gets thing done! One thing for sure, she has tried her best and will continue to improve women’s rights. Obama, according his wife, is a guy who would not even pick a sock on the floor or put away butter from table (see Newweek’s Michelle Obama issue).

Posted by: USmarine0331 | May 26, 2008, 3:46 pm 3:46 pm

Obama’s campaign strategy from the beginning was to own the black vote, and it was successful. His staff jumped on every comment made by Hillary, Bill, or their supporters, no matter how innocent, and turned it into a racist diatribe. Their continuous race baiting divided the party along racial lines, resulting in 90+ percent support for Obama in the black community, while at the same time Obama steadily lost white support.
Using racially charged rhetoric, he turned the black vote out en masse in Red states, where a large percentage of the Democratic voters were black. This allowed him to pile up a huge delegate advantage in states that are bright Red, and which will never vote Democratic in the general election.
With his commanding support among black voters he was able to intimidate superdelegates to vote for him by threatening a revolt of black voters.
His strategy to win the Democratic nomination was brilliant, except for one thing. His race baiting has created a black/white divide in the Democratic party that will be very difficult to bridge. Rather than act as the post-racial candidate he has been the hyper-racial candidate. He believes that he can increase turnout in the black community in order to offset losses among white voters, but that will not happen. His opponents will simply use the threat of the rising number of black voters to motivate more whites to vote.
All of this is obvious to any objective observer, and the Obama camp fears that if Hillary takes this to the convention his unpopularity with white voters will cause delegates to abandon him. This is what his staff fears. So, they will do anything they can to knock off Hillary.

The Obama campaign is desperate, having been, while already been made the nominee by the media, destroyed in West Virginia and Kentucky, and is now losing in the popular vote, so Obama is doing anything and everything he can to smear Hillary using gutter politics and reading words way out of context as a diversionary tactic to his weak candidacy and horrific inexperience.
His sexist, hateful, racist, and misogynistic campaign is dividing the party. Obama is quick to tear down and smear anyone that dares come up against him. He brutalized Geraldine Ferraro, and has been doing the same to Hillary.

Socialists are the enemies of capitalism.
Are you aware of Obama’s sponsored Global Poverty Act, which will send $845 billion dollars to Africa and third world countries.
Do you support Obama’s plan to redistribute wealth through taxation and by expanding federally funded programs?
What about Obama’s plan to create 20 “promise” neighborhoods in inner-city African-American communities, which is just another one of his socialist ideas?
Aren’t you bothered that Hamas, Sandinista Leader Daniel Ortega, Fidel Castro, and other of America’s enemies support Obama?
What about Obama’s early mentor, Communist Party USA Member Frank Marshall Davis.
What about Obama’s mother being a socialist?
What about Obama’s father being a socialist too, who also wrote an article called, “Problems of Our Socialism?”
What about Obama listening to the radical left-wing and anti-American sermons of Jeremiah Wright for 20 years?
I don’t know of any grunts who support socialism.
Instead, every grunt I know despises socialism, which wants to replace capitalism and our American way of life.

Omentum, you must not be aware that guaranteeing America’s access to Middle Eastern Oil is one of America’s national security interests.
Why? Because 55 percent of the world’s oil reserves and 32 percent of the world’s natural gas reserves are there.
You must also not be aware that Iran will go all out to acquire nuclear weapons if Obama becomes president, and also that it is trying to become the dominant power in the Middle East.
If Iran pressures other Middle Eastern countries to shut off America’s access to Middle Eastern Oil, and to sell it instead to China and India, massive unemployment, higher prices, and an economic depression will occur in the U.S.
If you really think that the U.S. should just allow Iran to take control of Iraq and the rest of the Middle East, you have been drinking too much Obama kool-aid.

OBAMA the Dem Leader, McCain the Rep
We will support Obama and others will support McCain, we will play fair!
We will not change the game, middle of the game and gracefully exit even if we win the Popular vote and lose the delegates.
That is the fact, no crying in the TV, no dreaming of snipers, no wishing someone will harm the other candidate or anything similar.
Play hard but play fair! Cannot take it, get the *!@ outta here and go to another country which still worship color/religion..etc!

If they ignore this ugly truth, Republicans should hammer this message home from now until Election Day.

Sue – SUCKS to back a candidate that can’t even run a decent campaign doesn’t it. Maybe if your candidate Sen Clinton wasn’t so dirty she would be winning LOL
IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER – ONLY 49 MORE DELEGATES
IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER – ONLY 49 MORE DELEGATES
IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER – ONLY 49 MORE DELEGATES
IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER – ONLY 49 MORE DELEGATES

Obama supporters need to face reality; that is Obama has two main problems that have severely harmed his chances of winning the General Election.
First, Obama has already angered too many Hillary supporters, and, second, Obama has a very steep uphill struggle to convince blue collar Americans that he doesn’t really share the values of Jeremiah Wright– even though everyone already knows that Obama listened to Jeremiah Wright’s anti-American and racist sermons for the last 20 years.
Actions speak louder than words, and Obama’s actions for the past 20 years show that Obama shares Jeremiah Wright’s radical left-wing views of America and white Americans.

If Rezco is found guilty, the media will be falling all over themselves to get that story. Enough of them allow the spotlight to trump politics that it will be out there.
The Banshee will use it as a sword of Damocles hanging over BO’s head. She will lobby the SD’s like there is no tomorrow, trying to convince them that Rezco is a live grenade.

As a state senator, Barack Obama wrote letters to city and state officials supporting his political patron Tony Rezko’s successful bid to get more than $14 million from taxpayers to build apartments for senior citizens.
The deal included $855,000 in development fees for Rezko and his partner, Allison S. Davis, Obama’s former boss, according to records from the project, which was four blocks outside Obama’s state Senate district.

Sorry, that way off and insulting to the white people that have black friends. Now in general I thing society is getting rediculous when it come to offending people. For example Hillarys assassination comment of Huckabee comment and the NRA, those were blown way out of purportion. But saying the White people are picking on the black people is absurd. For being of a mixed race, Obama didn’t go to a mixed race church, if he wanted to show he wasn’t a racist, no, he went to the most radical, racist church he could find, to feel close to God!!!!!! Wow, it just shows me he doesn’t know God at all and the rest of this country doesn’t either or they would be offended and flee from him. I can not understand why no one is mentioning the very stupid remarks that Senator Obama made to the Jewish community in Florida and also the Cuban people there. Both times he PROMISED he would look out for their interest. For the Jewish, it means he will not continue to support the PLO as he has been doing. For the Cubans, he was going to bring freedom so people could go back and forth and send money and goods. It was just more political pandering to individual groups of people. Anything to get the votes. Anything at all. He is such a jerk.

Hillary Clinton, defending her remarks:
I was making the simple point that given our history, the length of this year’s primary contest is nothing unusual.
There’s a lot of things you could say about 2008, but making the claim that it’s length is “nothing unusual” is not one of them.
First, take a look at the number of days that lapsed between the first competitive contest and June 1:
1968 — 81 days (first contest was NH on Mar 12).
1992 — 104 days (first competitive contest was NH on Feb 18 due to Harkin).
2008 — 150 days (first contest was IA on Jan 3).
Second, look at the number of days that elapsed between the candidate’s campaign kickoff announcement and June 1?
1968 — RFK had been a candidate for 76 days (announced March 16).
1992 — Bill Clinton had been a candidate for 242 days (October 3, 1991).
2008 — Hillary Clinton will have been a candidate for 498 days (January 20, 2007).
I’m getting so sick of Hillary Clinton’s bull.

Tim Russert, April 8, 1992: Bill Clinton is the Democratic nominee
Even if you set aside Clinton’s RFK remarks, her historical analogies were absurd. Bill Clinton had the nomination wrapped up long before June of 1992, and it wasn’t a secret. Here’s Tim Russert on April 8, 1992:

Posted by: do you watch the news? | May 26, 2008, 5:31 pm 5:31 pm

As Russert says, even if Jerry Brown had won every single remaining delegate at that point, he still could not have secured the nomination. Surely, Hillary Clinton is aware of this fact.
I wonder if there are any Hillary quotes from before June 1992 indicating she felt that Bill had won the nomination? That would really complete the circle — and I don’t think anyone smart would bet against the existence of such a statement in the public record.

Texas Voter; How flattering to think that anyone would want to pay for my agnostic soul. Just a voluteer on my own time because it’s fun for people who are into political science and history; for which I also have degrees. In anycase; it’s fun, don’t you think? However, I am not sold on Obama since I as a black Puerto Rican found that he and Michelle were trying to manipulate the audience in Nevada in voting for the “first black President.” It bugged me a lot because I wanted the DEMS to win against the Republicans and I felt that was a huge mistake. So I did some research and what I found on Obama in the Chicago Tribune was disturbing. Within a few weeks his camp had changed the vagueness of his message to mean a change in politics. Well, the Chicago Tribune article I had already read stated that Obama was into eliminating opponents on anything he could, including their divorce files. This from a camp that screams at Hillary for staying with Bill. Obama used dirty politics against fellow Dems in running for State and US Senate and to get where he is and I can not support that.

Kerry – It was Terry McAuliffe, then the head of the DNC that took away the FL and MI delegates. It was Hillary Clinton, along with every other candidate that signed an agreement that stated those delegates would not count.

Furthermore, I can understand people not liking Hillary. What I can not understand is Obama’s campaign encouraging and promoting hatred of a person on superficial things. The distrust I had of him winning as a candidate has turned into a distrust of him as a human being. See, the fact is there are people who like and respect Hillary; that is a fact that needs to be acknowledged. There is no way people would be accepting of a person like Obama who has proven to be a thug and bully in pressing his agenda, then to pretend that he is above it all when everyone knows it isn’t true, no matter how much the media is helping to spin that image. A lot of people are wiser than the media and the Obama strategist would like to think and the fact that they expect less of the general audience is also extremely insulting for those who are undecided (many in my family). This weekend they all were pushed away by this last attempt from the Obama camp.

Competetive ones at that with people split down the middle. Since we have come this far the heat is on at making that crucial decision; WHO WILL BEAT THE REPUBLICANS? To me, it is Hillary when we consider the fact that 30% of DEMS who voted for Bush in IND,OH,WV,PENN and Kentucky will vote for Hillary over McCain or will vote for McCain over Obama. That is a fact that no amount of propaganda can dismiss. We need to win this.

I think he is connected to too many corrupt and Anti-American associstes, campaign staff, pals and mentors for him to be good for this country. He has limited experience and his reluctance to revere our symbols like the flag, the National Anthem and his refusal to swear allegiance to America.
I do not hate him, though. He is free to believe in whatever he wishes. I just cannot support those beliefs.

The Obama camp has been so busy counting delegates, they forgot they have alienated the other half wanting Hillary plus FL and MI by not allowing them to be seated. The great unifier and uniter has divided the party along with Howard Dean. Obama at best will be short by 12 delegates. Hillary is going the distance and this will be decided by the superdelegates.

Posted by: Kate | May 26, 2008, 6:36 pm 6:36 pm

Yes, that’s a harsh headline for this piece.
But I’ll ask you to forgive me because, as a Veteran, there isn’t a day on the calendar that causes my hatred — and I do indeed mean hatred — of George W. Bush to bubble over the top more than Memorial Day.
“On Memorial Day, we honor the heroes who have laid down their lives in the cause of freedom, resolve that they will forever be remembered by a grateful Nation, and pray that our country may always prove worthy of the sacrifices they have made,” reads Bush’s official Memorial Day proclamation, issued by the White House on Thursday.
The Chickenhawk-in Chief says a lot of things that make this Vet’s blood boil but stuff like saying that he prays “…that our country may always prove worthy of the sacrifices they have made” is almost vomit inducing.
This statement comes from the same man who himself began dishonoring the sacrifices of all Veterans in such huge ways in March of 2003, when he invaded Iraq behind a veil of lies and deceit and started spilling barrels of military and civilian blood to start a war with a country that posed no threat whatsoever to our national security. These stirring words of remembrance come from an administration that began with a stolen election in 2000, which goes entirely against what I was taught way back when I was in the U.S. Navy, which was that part of the “way of life” we were protecting was symbolized by the ability of all of our citizens to have their votes counted.
“These courageous and selfless warriors have stepped forward to protect the Nation they love, fight for America’s highest ideals, and show millions that a future of liberty is possible,” continues Bush’s proclamation. “Americans are grateful to all those who have put on our Nation’s uniform and to their families, and we will always remember their service and sacrifice for our freedoms.”
The words Bush puts forth are true — it’s him being the one to say them that I find so sickening and personally offensive.
It is positively nauseating to have George W. Bush ever talk to us about “America’s highest ideals” when his administration has started a bloody war for no reason, imprisoned those suspected of being “terrorists” without trial or benefit of legal counsel, tortured prisoners in America’s name and done everything but grab the original U.S. Constitution from the National Archives and run it through a paper shredder.
I also don’t believe for one minute that the majority of the planet now holds our country in such extreme contempt because we’re right and they don’t understand our “highest ideals.” This Veteran will go to his grave believing that the years 2000 through 2008 were a dark time in our history when much of what I believed when I served in uniform was made invalid and debased.
According to the Defense Department, we have now lost 4,082 men and women in Bush’s war of choice in Iraq and we should not allow the man who sent them needlessly to their deaths to lead our nation today in mourning their loss. Make no mistake about it, George W. Bush is as responsible for the deaths of those men and women as if he himself had fired the bullet or set the IED that ended their lives.
And before the right-wing hate mail starts flowing in my direct I’ll admit that, yes, you are probably right that if Bush said nothing today I might notice that as well. But here’s the thing with so many of us Vets: Memorial Day is not an abstraction to us. Too many of us knew personally and can remember the faces of a few whose untimely deaths we mark today. Some of us actually even saw them killed in battle.
So, we do indeed take Memorial Day very personally and I for one would rather that Bush say nothing at all than to issue hypocritical pronouncements and give an insincere, flowery speech in honor of our war dead when he is personally responsible for the most recent we mourn today.
Even a garden-variety murderer would be unlikely to make an appearance when the victim’s family is observing the anniversary of a loved one’s death.
The least Bush can do is stay in the White House today, keep his lying mouth shut and understand deep in his craven soul that the next day the Congress should declare a national holiday is January 20, 2009, the day he leaves office and his days of dishonoring our war dead are forever done.

Well regardless of the reality of that statement I hope the Obama campaign keeps bringing up this story, because Hillary has gotten away with so many low attacks against Obama while he takes the high road (i.e., The Somali Picture, Shame on you, Change you can Xerox, Not a muslim as far as I know, Mocking his speeches in Rhode Island, mocking his supporters, saying she has a lifetime of experience and McCain has a lifetime of experience but Obama just has a speech, pushing the VP idea when she is in 2nd place (and she still is), states he won aren’t significant (only big states matter), elitist comments (which is absurd given that she’s the 100 million dollar person), using Ferraro as her attack dog, etc..).

Posted by: Lezident | May 26, 2008, 9:20 pm 9:20 pm

EVEN OBAMA SAYS THE STUFF ABOUT RFK WAS NOT A BIG DEAL. DROP IT PEOPLE.
Regarding the DNC and the Fl/Mi votes, there is some serious misunderstanding going on here. ALL of Clinton’s supporters who are on the DNC committee VOTED to strip FL/MI of their votes if they didn’t follow the rules, and it’s actually printed IN TERRY MACAULIFFS BOOK!!!! He warned Mi directly of the consequences. One of Obama’s supporters voted against it. The vote passed, and that’s the end of the story. The rules of the DNC were made before Dean was the head honcho, by the way.
All candidates were not supposed to campaign in either state.
One of Obama’s national ads aired there briefly, and Clinton had a fundraiser there, and Bill campaigned for her there!!
Obama, as an unknown candidate running against the Clinton intrenched machine, did amazingly well in Fla, and the Clinton campaign was STUNNED that she didn’t crush him there, especially since he didn’t step foot in the state. That’s why they never pushed to seat the state. In Michigan, it was simply an embarassment for Clinton that 40% chose “undecided” over her.
Do some research folks. The best way to understand the situation is NOT from the candidates web pages, but from news articles going back to fall 2007 when Fl and Mi were being warned. It wasn’t that interesting then, but is sure is now, in hindsight.

One of Hillary’s main supporters, James Carville , inferred she has “cojones.” She did not complain then. She compared herself to Rocky Balboa, she found nothing wrong with that;. She called herself Paulette Revere; nothing wrong with that. Personally I’m concerned with Hillary’s foreign policy and military experience. Look, she made a corkscr*w landing in Bosnia, avoiding sniper fire all the while. Then when she landed, the only backup she had was her then 12-year-old daughter, a guitar player and a comedian. I am truly concerned about how she would handle herself in one of the submarines at Disneyland, in Anaheim, California.

I love these comments from the Obama supporters. If this thing is truly over, what are you still doing here?
Not so sure, huh?

All hilry supporters who love her so much, if you really believe she is the best candidate,
then instead of wasting your time here, get out and spend your time to collect some penny and dig her out of 30 millions debt.
Hilary can’t manage her own campaign finance, so why should anyone trust her with our economy???????

Clinton gets bashed for a week now by the media and Obama supporters over their perceived context of her “June” statement. Did she or did she not mean whatever?
Meanwhile, Obama in a Memorial Day speech, says his great-uncle was one if the liberators of the Auschwitz concentration camp. However, as this camp was liberated by Russian troops, his campaign, not him, later clarified on his behalf that Obama misspoke and should have said the concentration camp at Buchenwald.
Does he really not know his own family history that much? Or, was he trying to pull a fast one, politician style, aka HRCs sniper fire comment, for political gain among a demographic he does not fare as well with by referring erroneously to a better known camp?
I find it hard to believe this guy’s stripes are any different than the rest of theirs…change…I think not.

The Argus Leader’s Executive Editor Randell Beck issued the following statement today:
“The context of the question and answer with Sen. Clinton was whether her continued candidacy jeopardized party unity this close to the Democratic convention. Her reference to Mr. Kennedy’s assassination appeared to focus on the timeline of his primary candidacy and not the assassination itself.”
Robert F Kennedy jr. defended Clintons timeline. Where are those headlines Jack???????????????????????
