Obama: Clinton Lead in WV, KY ‘Insurmountable’

ABC News’ Z. Byron Wolf and Jacqueline Klingebiel report: Sen. Barack Obama told reporters Thursday, on the floor of the Capitol Rotunda, that he is still locked in his primary battle with Sen. Hillary Clinton, (D-NY).

"Senator Clinton is a formidable candidate, she is very likely to win West Virginia and Kentucky, those are two states where she’s got insurmountable leads. We are going to spend some time there, but we are also going to be going to Oregon, Montana, South Dakota and Puerto Rico." Click to watch the video here.

Despite his recent win in North Carolina, he is taking nothing for granted or his current position as front-runner.

"I think our goal is going to be deciding who our party is governed by as soon as possible," Obama said while walking. "We still have contest remaining, and so, in no way am I taking this for granted we are going to have to keep on working."

But he looked every bit the triumphant Democratic nominee as he marched on foot in the drizzling rain with some members of Congress from a meeting nearby into the Capitol building.

Obama held court on the House floor, where he is allowed as a U.S. Senator, but not technically a member. It was a good opportunity to talk to Democratic Congressmen, who are all superdelegates.

Then, after a half hour or so on the House floor, he left to take a picture and gladhanding with the 35 or so of the teenagers who intern in the House as pages, he walked through the ornate statuary hall and rotunda of the capitol, talking to a crush of reporters about the race as he went and drawing the attention of the tourists away from the paintings on the walls and the statues in the alcoves.

While some party elders are saying Sen. Clinton, whose path to defeating Obama is almost unpassable, should drop out of the race, Obama said today she is still a viable candidate and he will campaign hard in the remaining primaries.

Of his visit to the House of Representatives side of Capitol Hill today, which caused the mob scene of journalists, lawmakers and tourists, Obama said, "The goal was just to say hello."

"I have not been over to the House side," he said. "We’ve got a lot of supporters who work there. There are still some undecideds. If they have questions for me then I’m certainly happy to respond to them. Obviously they’re a little anxious about some of the sense of division in the party and I just wanted to assure them that whatever happens…"

At this point he was interrupted by a group of tourists shouted to him that they were from Illinois. He turned and shouted back, but was being swept along in the wave of cameramen and reporters and secret service.

It was quite the scene, although the Capitol building has had its share of scenes. You could start with the British storming the place down and go on from there in 1814 during the War of 1812 and go on from there. LINK

Contrast all this with Sen. Clinton’s meetings yesterday with House members at the Democratic National Headquarters. She met with 7, according to her office and there was no triumphal march to the Capitol afterward.

Most reporters lost him at the elevators on the senate side of the capitol building. But he went down to the basement and got on the subway. It was diverted, however, before it reached the Hart building, where his office is when a building engineer came in the car to announce the train was being closed for service.

Obama and his security got out of the car and plunged into the Dirksen building, where they finally disappeared into an elevator.

Senator Clinton should stay in the race. She is the better candidate.

I’m glad Hillary is staying in, too. She’s brilliant and can handle anything that comes her way. She is also not afraid of anyone or anything.
Obama would be LUCKY to have her as a running mate- she’s got the big states locked up- he can’t win them without her. If he gets the nomination, he better hope and pray to have Hillary on his side or he hasn’t got a chance.

Planet Clinton sounds like a wonderful alternate reality.
But here, in the real world, it’s Obamamania people. Get on the train.
Wooohoo!

Hillary can when I can’t believe the media is trying and team Obama is playing from the republican play book if she wins big in WV and KY and does fairly well in the three states in up nprth she can come withhin twenty del.after PR.

Will he still look triumphant when he loses Kentucky by 38%?
Are Democrats so dumb that they are going to nominate an unelectable candidate again?
If they are they don’t deserve to hold the white house now or any time in the near future.

The voters have spoken. This should be stopped now.
All Hillary is going to do is try to get votes on fact she feels people should feel sorry for her. That way if she does a sweep on the remaining states they will give it to her. She is done. Obama fight hard and wipe that witch out.

Yes, brilliant is an accurate word to describe Hillary. Even her worst enemies have to admit that. So, some loser who blogs about her not being smart…well…who cares what he thinks.
Is it not okay to say “white Americans?” But it is okay to say “black Americans.” What exactly is the problem here? Geez…

Posted by: Jackie,nc | May 8, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

Obama has it. She won’t even come close in MT or Oregon and even if she wins all of the other primaries she still won’t win. Go ahead sit Florida Mchigan she still won’t win because there is no way they will award all those delegate to her some but not all. GET OVER IT SHE LOST THIS THING IN FEB!! even her own people say that!

Posted by: Joe | May 8, 2008, 2:16 pm 2:16 pm

Jackie, it’s not smart for Hillary to alienate such a large portion of her constituency. Many “white Americans” support Obama, or he wouldn’t be winning. Nothing wrong with saying “white Americans” or “black Americans” to me, but making racial generalizations is hardly a brilliant political manuever, unless it is her intention to widen the growing rift in the Democratic party.

Posted by: louielouie | May 8, 2008, 2:16 pm 2:16 pm

I have a question maybe someonew has an answer for. How many states has Obama won that did not have an African American population of at least 18%. I am sure that is out there in Blogland somewhere.
This race should go on through all primaries including Florida and Michigan. All voters have the right to be heard. Only Obama people want it to end knowing there could be an upset.

This is a gut sick description of a man who would NEVER be where he is without the help of the media cheerleaders. If he was really about unity he would have called the media on their outrageous bias long time ago so that the nominee is a legitimate nominee and not another politician who snakes his way into office. IF he becomes the nominee he can then thank the media for helping him DIVIDE the party . What an ego !
Hillary ’08

Even a kid with only 6th grade knows it is absolutely wrong to deny people’s right…
So let people exercise their own right to vote and let all the voice be heard…

Posted by: True Truth | May 8, 2008, 2:20 pm 2:20 pm

Obama is making his “triumphant march” with the complicity of the biased media. Well, if he swipes the nomination from Sen. Clinton, he will crash and burn in November and his delusional messianic power to “heal” won’t save him from this implosion. The “triumphant march” will eventually end with the Democratic Party train wreck because of his raw ambition. McCain will be president.
The Democratic nomination process calls for all states to vote and if the candidates are short in delegates for the nomination, then the superdelegates select the best experienced, qualified candidate using their independent judgment. Qualifications, not skin color or race, should be the unyielding principle, just like the rule of law. Sen. Clinton is the best experienced, qualified presidential candidate.

These two states are small states.
Hillary has already told us that small states are REALLY insignificant and meaningless and their voters don’t count.
Has something changed?
Now Hillary is saying small states are REALLY important. I can’t keep up with all her shape shifting positions.
It is like she is channeling Mitt Romney.

Obama the great Uniter of the democratic party should have no problem winning WV and KY, Wright? Obama pulls together all people, and he reaches across party lines, Wright? It should be interesting to see the great Uniter in action in the next few weeks. Of course, Obama doesn’t have to really try with the voters of WV and KY, because according to Donna Brazile, they are not part of the “new democratic party”. Party on!

bblack, don’t give up on all of us, man. In my neighborhood, my precinct and my county, whites turned out in droves to support Obama 2-to-1 over Clinton. My kids drove in from college in order to caucus. It’s not because he is black or white or both, but it is his message of change and hope that excited many of us. We’re talking about race now with our friends of all colors, in bold and truthful terms. The haters on these blogs don’t represent me, my family, my friends or anyone I know. I don’t hate Hillary, I just don’t like the way she plays the game.

Hill the Bosnian General is dividing the democratic party. She is dividing the great American people between: old, blue-colors, white, latinos, women. In Hill’s world there is no black people, no young people, no native Americans, no college educated folks. All she has known in politics is “divide and rule” and that is what Obama wants to brign to an end and get America together to tackle real issues. God bless America and God bless obama. OBAMA08.

If people thought Reps don’t know how to handle economy, it would be too naive..
Reps has a lot of economy elites such as Greenspan who has served as economy US across both Rep and Dem’s administration…
The bottom line is who will be benefited: rep and dem have a complete different approach to economy: rep prefers tax cut and less government control while dems perfers a larger goverment and more government control, which typically leads to tax increase…
So who will have a better approach to solve our economic problem?? No one has a clear answer and even economists are not sure which one is the best!
So can Dems really win over economy issue?? It is still a big question!! It would be worse if Dems’ nominee is the least experienced….
Dems can’t win over national security and foriegn policies even the War on Iraq…
No one will be expected to withdraw troops from Iraq in the near term because it is a national interest and international security matter…..The whole world just can’t afford another chaos in Mid-east and the entire global economy will be shaking due to the high oil demand from Mid-east…
Not mentioning a divided Desm is a defeated Dems for sure…

Hey bblack, — I really hope that if Obama wins he can eradicate the inner cities crime, elevate the standard or living for the black areas and teach some manners to the brothas as he “really” did in Illinois and Chicago, right? He can also turn down the quotas systems and pacify Sharpton and Jessie,no more riots, no more marches, so those are the real changes we all are waiting for. No
How many students have been killed in Chicago this past years? they all were not far from where Obama has his mansion.

Posted by: Pail_Chicago | May 8, 2008, 3:16 pm 3:16 pm

So Obama is giving up W. Virginia and Kentucky, ha. Of course since those states don’t have large school campuses, rich whites and large African American population. What does it say to you?
Very interesting, the DCN and Obama campaign are not only limiting FLA and Michigan and trying very very hard to nominated Obama before the process ends but also now he is not even campaigning in W.V and Kentucky, probably way to many uneducated white people, to many old women, and bitter blue collars?

Posted by: Mary_WV | May 8, 2008, 3:29 pm 3:29 pm

bblack,
The issue is that a lot of people have not convinced he is the best qualified person to be US president and even some of them very dislike him based on personal feeling?
So the biggest task Obama has to accomplish is: how can he convince the rest of Dems he will be the best one to be qualifed as CIC and the best chance to win over W.H.??
As mentioned before, his winning pattern has not made a breakthough to his consistent pattern yet??
He admitted this time again in this topic: he just can’t and won’t be able to break his own pattern- he won’t win WV and KY…

Scince it isn’t a winner take all system the mentioned scenario won’t happen and she’ll still lose so why drag it out? Shes broke anyway and the press wil quit covering her soon just like the repubs ignore her.

You, BO and BO supporters, use this dirty typical political trick to hit one Clinton to implicate another Clinton.
For that, your candidate does not deserve the support of real democrats.

Probably true what he says since there are not sufficient blacks in those States to throw the election his way. The Americans in West Virginia and Kentucky are your working class people who see Hillary as the party’s nominee who will solve their problems and concerns. Sorry, but that is the way of this democractic nomination process, and it is best if the party leaders and super delegates stay out of the way of the democratic voters. The party is terribly fractured without more interference.

I am going for Clinton all the way !!
I know a lot of people that are just like me: Loyal Democrats that will become Independents. Because quite frankly I don’t even recognize what I considered to be my party any longer. What was once the party of the content of one’s character has become the party of the color of one’s skin. And I object to this strenuously and will fight it with every fiber of my being regardless of who becomes the nominee.

Posted by: RossiMas | May 8, 2008, 4:14 pm 4:14 pm

The democratic party will cease to exist IF OBAMA is the nominee. Those of you who wrote the voters have spoken, I say yes, and there are quite a bit for Clinton. This needs to be decided at the Convention. I want to know why they want to rush it!!!! What is their reason. Look back there have been many times where the convention decides the nominee. Why is OBAMA rushing it?????

More spin from the Clinton campers. Just like the delegates from MI. How does it feel now MI? Hillary sold you guys out today by not accepting the deal that MI proposed to the DNC LOL Are you guys STILL going to maintain that she is speaking for you? That SHE wants your vote to count LOL or are yu finally going to accept that YOU ONLY count if it is better for HER? Actions, as always, speak louder than words.

My father was a fighter. Sometimes he won and sometimes he lost. But when he believed in something and knew it was right he gave it everything he had. Many times it put a financial stress on our family. But my father did what he knew he must. And as he lay in bed a day before he died he was calling business associates working up a new product with them. To some in my family it seemed as if he was being foolish. Because even he knew he was dying. But to me he demonstrated a strength that I can only hope to emulate in my own life.
Some things are worth fighting for. And even when you know that the potential for certain failure is right around the corner you can’t give in. Hillary Clinton is a fighter. She fights for American issues, not just Democratic issues. So whatever happens we need to join in her fight. She is THE One !!

Posted by: Bishop | May 8, 2008, 4:19 pm 4:19 pm

It just shows how fickle polls are. Not only is there a statistical error, opinions can change with every news bit, every primary, every speech. Clinton beat McCain by 3.9 and Obama beats McCain by 2.6. Statistically within error range (advantage still Clinton). When Clinton had a big head to head win, every news show (and the Clinton campaign) kept boasting about her superior electability. Now that it is close and the trend is in Obama’s favor, we don’t hear anything about. Generally speaking, I would be careful using the head-to-head as an electability argument for either candidate, given how quickly it changes. Between now and Nov, today’s numbers will become meaningless.

Obama compares himself to Lincoln, yet he won’t do a Lincoln debate.
Obama compares himself to JFK because he claims that he, too, has “vision” –but Obama’s vision is the opposite of JFK’s. Obama wants to END the research and development of space. Obama kills the dream, while JFK made dreams a reality. Obama is blind to the bigger picture, JFK wasn’t.
Obama compares himself to MLK yet he more closely resembles Malcolm X.
Rev Wright – Obama’s 20 year pastor — said, “the chickens have come home to roost” which was a line made famous by Malcolm X.
After President Kennedy had been assassinated, Malcolm X said that it was a case of “the chickens coming home to roost.” He added that “Chickens coming home to roost never made me sad. It only made me glad.” This remark prompted a widespread public outcry.”
Instead of consoling his congregation after the devastation of 9/11, Rev Wright made a political statement which put the blame on America and NOT on the terrorists.
Obama & his wife have demonstrated that they more closely believe like their pastor and less like the rest of America. This is a huge problem. This will come up again & again should Obama take the nomination.
Clinton is the best choice without a doubt.

Posted by: Carlos | May 8, 2008, 4:19 pm 4:19 pm

Anyone in W.VA or Kentucky contemplating voting for Obama needs to research the following names: Auchi, Khalidi, Ayers, and the Emir of Qatar. We all already know Wright went to Libya with Farrakhan to meet Mumar Khadafi.
Hillary is overcoming two huge obstacles the DNC CREATED. First they chastised the elected officials of FLA and MI by penalizing the voters. Second, this is the first time in history delegates were not awarded Winner Take ALL. If it was done the historical way (TAKE ALL), Hillary would have it sewn up. Here’s the problem with that…you NEED CA, NY, NJ, OH, Mass. to win as a DEM in the general election. She’s carried them all. He’s won more RED states, those which will NOT vote DEM likely in the fall. Lots of Clinton supporters won’t support him in the DEEP BLUE states listed above. Go to Wikipedia and look at an ELECTORAL COLLEGE MAP, by searching for US presidential election. There’s no chance I will vote for him…Dem for 40 years.
He’s untested, he’s a very typical Chicago-style politician despite his platform rhetoric, he has way too many very questionable islamic connections (no ‘Tony’ Rezko isn’t italian), he’s deceitful (he does take contributions from special interests and he lied about the nuclear legislation which never passed.)

She has no spine look at the gas tax issue her gun control issues. She can’t pump gas, and I don’t know about you but this whole I’m in touch with the middle class is BS too. Hillary’s husband Bill, as a former President and 100+ millionaire, tried to buy this election for his wife.
With $11 million dollars of her own money, plus an army of Bill’s pals collecting record donations…she blew it.
She was a lousy campaigner, a bad decision maker, and basically a mean spirited idiot.
She chose gal pal’s over talent. To be the incumbent, when we wanted change. To be hawkish on a war…at first trying to prove a woman could be tough, and then later, finding that with Obama’s insurmountable lead, her only ground was to go racist, and suggest a black cannot be elected.
How far she has fallen, now running around West Virginia and Kentucky, hoping some old KKK magic might revive her campaign.
Good riddens to bad rubbish.

What strikes me the most about this is the phrase “to avoid the political consequences of chosing the wrong one.” So the superdelegates aren’t interested in the best interests of our country. They are much more concerned with their political futures. They want to make sure they pick the side of the winner so that they can share in the spoils. That is why Hillary Clinton is the decency that lacks Obama. It is so obvious.

Emily – I don’t think anyone is forcing Hillary out of the Race. People, do however, want her to act like a grown up.
She tried hard but is virtually mathmatically eliminated. This is just a fact.
Point to the Math does not make one an elitist.

Obama seems to surround himself with “whites”; does he have any close “black” friends? Maybe he had to stay in that church in order to show he has contacts with blacks. I sense he may actually have contempt for the majority of blacks. Obama is becoming to biggest traitor of his own. Thank God he wont make it.

The super’s are there to protect us from a nominee who can’t win in the GE but the elitist who run the show like Kennedy ,Peloai,Kerry can’t control Clinton like they can Obama and believe me when they control from the far left everybody loses.

She should stay until the end and nobody has the right to tell to get out. Why Obama is afraid to fight to the end? Look at Jesse Jackon, Ted Kennedy and other used to fight to the convention and no pundits or other tell them to stop the fight. Are they sexist?

You know, I have asked myself the same question. Why don’t we see any of his friends (other than Wright, Rezko, and Ayers)? Usually friends come out of the woodwork–Hillary has a ton of them, many of whom have been her best friends for 30 years (which to me is always a good sign as to what kind of person she is to keep all those loyal friends).

Obama can’t win the election. There are too many questions. Way too many people are going to walk from the democratic party. They have pulled too many parlor tricks to be trusted by middle of the roaders. You are suppose to win elections by winning the hearts and minds of the people. This was never suppose to be about being able to manhandle the votes by throwing in super deligates and all the other smoke and mirror games being played by the DNC.By the way, if the democrats carry the day the disenfranchised are going to remain the disenfranchised. That is unless there is some money to be made in entitlement. You are going to get what you deserve for buying into this.

The bias in the media has been trying to squeeze Hillary out since DAY 1.
She wins Pennsylvania and they ask, “When you steppin’ down, Hillary?”
She wins Indiana and they ask, “When you steppin’ down Hillary?”
God Bless her for FIGHTING FOR THOSE AMERICANS WHO BELIEVE SHE IS THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR THE JOB!
Obama delegates have cash flowing out of their pockets due to the “ethical reformers” donations to each of them. How HYPOCRITICAL is that? WAKE UP AMERICA!

Obama will not reach the 2,025 magic number on May 20. Rather, on
that date he is all but certain to hit a different threshold–1, 627
pledged delegates, which would constitute a winning majority among
the 3,253 total pledged delegates if Florida and Michigan are not
included.

I’m a 54 year old white female, and I’m voting for Barack Obama. Why? Because Al Gore isn’t running (#1 reason — Al was my first choice), and #2, because I feel Hillary is too divisive, and we’ve had nearly 8 years of this great country being severely divided (I’m not saying she’s as divisive as Bush, no one could possibly be that bad, except for Cheney or McCain), we really need someone who is going to pull this country back together as the UNITED States, and I believe Obama can do that. He seems like a truly sincere guy who loves his country and wants the best for all its citizens, no matter what gender, race, religious beliefs, education background, etc. I’m looking forward to his presidency, like a LOT of white people, men and women, well educated as well as blue collar workers, here in the great state of Massachusetts.

In my forty years on this planet I have seen African Americans gravitate into many positions I will never be able to achieve. I am actually happy to see these fold get what they work for. If African Americans are qualified enough to be your Governors, Mayors, Congressman, and Senators then why in the world would an African American not be qualified to be president? This makes no sense to me. And the notion that “white america” wont vote for Obama is just ridiculous.
I hope and pray we Dems get it together or there will be another BUSH in office come January.

How convenient, and how utterly arrogant, that Senator Obama would seek to anoint himself before the Rules Committee has the opportunity to discuss enfranchising 2.5 million voters who went to the polls in Michigan and Florida. In case the Obama Campaign lost the memo, the first meeting of the Rules Committee is scheduled for May 31st — 11 days after he plans to “declare victory.”

Tell me how many AA Obama has around him in his inner circle, maybe people should look at that first before the call anyone racist.
Obama is AA and he sure does not seem to have too many AA main liners around him why is that?

She is the fighter America neds !!! There is no possiblity that Obama will earn enough pledged delegates, not even close, by May 20th. In fact, since Hillary Clinton will likely win West Virginia (on May 13th) and Kentucky (on May 20th) by huge double-digit margins — Barack Obama’s pledged delegate lead will have shrunk by May 20th. I just saw that Clinton has a 40 point lead in West Virginia just 5 days out to that election! Despite the mad cries this week to end things, it appears that Clinton is actually gaining momentum. Wow, a blow-out like that in West Virginia, a general-election swing state, would be devastating for Obama as he simultaneously tries to persuade the Superdelegates, and everyone else in America, that he can win enough Democratic votes in November to beat John McCain.

Posted by: MargaretMi | May 8, 2008, 4:38 pm 4:38 pm

A President cannot be a cowards, by any means !! So…yes, it appears that Barack Obama is very scared. Scared of the people in Florida, Michigan, West Virginia, Kentucky, Puerto Rico; scared of the Democratic process; and possibly scared that more of his skeletons will pop out of the closet before June. I can’t really say, don’t know what he’s thinking, but Jeez, Senator, let Democracy be! Reject Barack Obama !!

Posted by: Jules in TX | May 8, 2008, 4:42 pm 4:42 pm

Do the Obama supporters need some help in understanding how this works? While Obama is ahead of Hillary in delegates, he doesn’t have the magic number to win. The only way he wins is if Hillary concedes. There is nothing that says she has to concede and shy should she when she is so close and still winning states over Obama. It is the Obama supporters who want to stop the game.

The worst the media has done as ponder if Hillary will step down. 42% of the political media going into the last few primaries was on Rev. Wright. Barely a word about the source Bill’s tens of millions and who is he beholden to. His impeachment was not about Monica. It was about China illegially contributing to the XY Clinton campaign and then XY obstructed the investigation. Guess what? China is still giving to XY. India has given a lot to Hillary and she has given away New York jobs to India. The media has been very kind to Hillary.

What is shocking and disappointing to me is not that Hillary Clinton is staying in the race. She has every right to. and the longer the primaries go the more opportunity Obama has to become familiar to Democrats everywhere. What is shocking and disappointing is that millions of Americans, though apparently mostly uneducated, are willing to overlook the fact that her political calculation on the Iraq War has produced a holocaust with a million dead Iraqi civilians, millions more homeless or refugees, bankrupt our own Treasury, destroyed our economy, resulted in 10s of thousands of our most honorable and committed Americans being killed, dismembered, or brain injured. We all knew the game being played by the administration. Clinton’s argument that she only wanted to strengthen the President’s hand is also flawed. The first rule of gun safety is never draw your weapon unless you intend to use it. This person wants to be Commander in Chief? Of the most powerful destructive force the world has ever known, the US military? She is so insecure that she voted against a ban on land mines and cluster bombs whose targets are inevitably primarily children. She voted for the Lieberman amendment to declare the Iranian national Army a terrorist organization. In the middle of a ‘war on terror’? With Bush in the White House and Cheney craving an excuse to nuke Iran? She may get her wish yet. The firing of Admiral Fallon for questioning the wisdom of that is the clearest evidence yet that the next President will be fighting a War in three countries!! I can’t forgive her or anyone supporting her. She should go back to dodging mortar rounds in Bosnia.

It is tiring to hear how Obama is scarred of voters in Florida and Michigan. These were states that did not conform to DNC rules and the democratic party along with the candidates decided that these states would not be counted if they should go ahead with holding their primaries earlier than usual. Clinton now wants them counted because she campaigned in those states and won while others did not even campaign. She is now trying to change the rules in the middle of the game. Goes to show that she is the consummate politician.

Posted by: worldsam | May 8, 2008, 4:48 pm 4:48 pm

Hillary supporters,
The math just is not there. Because of how Delegates are handed out, Hillary CAN NOT overtake Obama in Pledged Delegates. Even with Florida and Michigan being counted. She would need 77% of remaining Pledged delegates to take the lead in that group. That’s not going to happen. She might win WVa and Kentucky by 15 points each(even though she’s only done that once, in Arkansas)….won’t be enough. Puerto Rico by another 15? Still way back. Heck, even give her Oregon, Montana and South Dakota(Where Obama leads) by 15 points each….and she’s still dead in the water. The Obama campaign is waiting to unveil a long list of Superdelegates until Oregon and Kentucky vote because they want Oregon to put him “over the top” of 2025. And if Hillary wants to change the math again, then he’ll wait for South Dakota to put him over the top of 2209. It’s over. Hillary needs to start kissing ### if she wants to be the VP, which probably won’t happen anyways(There’s going to be a long list, and Hillary brings very few positives to the table).

Then if thats the case I ask you how will Hillary win if she cases off all our votes? Do you think we’ll all say Ok lets hold hands and vote for Hillary. If she does that I’m voteing repub for sure. The rules must be adhered to. Michigan and Florida broke the rules and the delegates do not count. Clinton is showing her desperation with this move, and it will not work. She needs to drop out of the race that she LOST so that the party can unite behind Obama for November.
Obama needs to INGORE Clinton, pick his own VP this week, and end this charade by focusing on November. I am glad Obama visited the Hill today. He is showing his Presidential character, and planning for the general election. Clinton needs to stop being selfish and drop out. She has the next four years to work on her 2012 campaign. She failed in 2008. Period.

Look, here’s the deal – if you and I are in a class where the passing grade is 70% and I have 68 and you have 67, we BOTH fail!! It doesn’t matter that one of us has one more point than the other. The only hope is for extra credit (superdelegates).
The rest of the race is about the SUPERS, whether we like it or not. And if she gets close enough, has the momentum and the poll numbers, it could happen.
What kind of DEMOCRATS ask someone to step down when not everyone has voted? I am – no lie – very much thinking of going Independant. This is not the party I have been loyal to for 50 years. I don’t recognize this party at all.

FL and MI need to feel respected, so they should be seated at the convention. However, it will be a crime to count the votes fully as they are, because Obama couldn’t run a campaign as he could in other states. Remember, before Super Tuesday, he was behind EVERYWHERE. The lack of campaigning favored Clinton as well, since she had more name recognition.
At this point, Obama will have a delegates majority that cannot be surmounted, even with FL and MI. He should move for those votes to be counted at 50% delegate weight (like the GOP), which will keep the advantage (100% will too), and FL and MI should get great respect at the convention so that voters see that the party is sorry for all the drama. How’s that?

Posted by: MargaretMi | May 8, 2008, 4:55 pm 4:55 pm

dusty,
Face it, the race issue will be a dominant one in the G.E… Admit or not, Obama’s lead is based on his race…
There is no argument who will be Dems’ Nominee – It will be Obama by RULE – 99%…
There is argument whether Obama can win G.E. and who has better chance to win G.E…

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday rejected a compromise plan to seat Michigan’s delegates to the national convention that would give 69 delegates to Clinton and 59 to Barack Obama.
So who doesn’t want votes to be counted now?

Posted by: Joe | May 8, 2008, 4:58 pm 4:58 pm

All of you who think that FL and MI shouldn’t be counted because they broke the DNC rules had better rethink your position. Other states have broken DNC rules before and didn’t get this treatment. It was stupid for the DNC to disenfranchise those voters. Your candidate cannot get elected without those two states. Besides all the other problems with Obama, he really doesn’t need to keep digging his grave deeper. Oh that’s right, he won’t win the nomination with them. What a dilemna for the democrats. Just keep piling them on.

Obama is ahead because of small caucus states where he won by 65% to 35%. No DEM will win those states in a general election. To say that the states he has won in the primary process will deliver him victory in Nov is a total fantasy. Dean should be run out of town for presiding over such a failed process. Now I would have to say shame on Hillary for not recognizing the same strategy Obama used. Her “Big States” strategy real is what failed her. They ignored the little ones and saw very lopsided results. Nevertheless, she would do better in Nov, but I don’t think the party has it in them to nominate a strong candidate; just look at our history.

Am I the only one that finds this article to be one of the most terribly written things ever?
“It was quite the scene, although the Capitol building has had its share of scenes. You could start with the British storming the place down and go on from there in 1814 during the War of 1812 and go on from there.”
What in the world is that?

Posted by: concerned | May 8, 2008, 5:02 pm 5:02 pm

Actually, I think it is – Obama’s already split the party – four years of him running the country would drive plenty of people out of it forever. He attacks universal health care, voted for Cheney’s energy policy, defended voting for John Roberts, considers Bob Casey (anti-choice) a possibility for VP.. What Democratic values will he stand up for if it’s politically risky for him to do so? Who won’t he throw under the bus instead of standing up for them?
Apparently his people are already discouraging some progressive groups from working for him in the general, so he can disassociate himself in favor of this “new politics.” The netroots blindly support the guy who didn’t bother to vote on the MoveOn resolutions (while trashing Hillary, who stood up for them), who posted on Daily Kos defending Democrats who voted for John Roberts, who went on Fox News and cited that as an example of.. why he’d be a good president and that should tell you something about what he’d do in office. Hey, progressives.. I know he used to do nice stuff for you.. but what has he done for you lately?

I believe Hillary’s supporters are living in the same parallel universe that Hillary is. Reality is that Senator Obama will win the Democratic nomination. There is no possible way Hillary can catch up in popular votes, states won, or pledged delegates. Yes, Hillary may win, KY and WV, even by large majorties, but Senator Obama will take SD, WY, OR, and Puerto Rico.
Obama has continued to nibble away at Clinton’s lead in superdelegates. He picked up two on Monday, leaving him trailing Clinton 269-255. Yesterday he picked up 5 more superdelegates, and today, saying he believes Barack Obama is the best candidate to fight for working people, former U.S. Rep. David Bonior of Mt. Clemens (John Edward’s former camapign maanger) endorsed the Illinois senator’s run for the presidency, adding that Senator Obama has shown the fight he needs to win in November.
States that normally go Democratic in a general election will go Democratic and Senator Obama has an excellent chance of taking many of the swing states. Senator Obama can also carry a large portion of the white population – older white females like me – who have been numbered in Hillary’s supposed voting bloc.
If you choose to vote for Senator “Senior Moments” – go ahead. There are enough Independents and Republicans who will negate your vote and pull the lever for Senator Obama.

Posted by: sandy | May 8, 2008, 5:06 pm 5:06 pm

I am going for Clinton all the way !!
I know a lot of people that are just like me: Loyal Democrats that will become Independents. Because quite frankly I don’t even recognize what I considered to be my party any longer. What was once the party of the content of one’s character has become the party of the color of one’s skin. And I object to this strenuously and will fight it with every fiber of my being regardless of who becomes the nominee.

Should she have given in due to the polls then? Both candidates have baggage. Both candidates have motivated supporters. Both candidates need supers to win. And both candidates need some of the other candidates supporters to win the ge. None of these arguments are winners for either side.

Oregon has 1.9% AA and will go strongly for Obama. So have numerous other states with little AA population. This discussion of race is really sad. Obama is a 21st Century candidate who appeals to 21st Century voters. Hillary is a 20th Century politician and appeals to 20th Century voters. Their policies are so similar compared to McCain, anyone who supports Hillary and would turn around and support McCain must be voting on something. What is it? Can we say Racism.

Kentucky and West Virginia have not spoken yet and Hillary should win those states. However, Obama, should show up and campaigne some. I wouldn’t spend too much money if I were him, because he’s going to need the money in a few months when he runs against John McCain.
I wonder if roles were reverse what people would be saying about Obama if he continued to run and divide the party when he had no chance of winning except to distroy the democratic party in the process. I can tell you many african americans are watching this at the local level for those local politicians that continue to support this division. People like Rep Jackson-Lee Houston is finished in her district.

After Obama loses those 2 states big, I wonder if the love struck MSM will ask him when he is going to drop out.

Posted by: Mack | May 8, 2008, 5:24 pm 5:24 pm

And someone asked for the states Obama won with Black Populations<18%…
Washington(5.7%)
Iowa(2.79%)
Idaho(0.84%)
Utah(1.23%)
Wyoming(1.15%)
Colorado(4.74%)
Nebraska(4.82%)
Kansas(6.60%)
North Dakota(1.04%)
Minnesota(4.96%)
Missouri(12.04%)
Wisconsin(6.48%)
Illinois(15.1%)
Maine(1.02%)
Vermont(0.89%)
Connecticut(10.88%)
(16)
Over 18%-
Luoisiana(33.47%)
Maryland(30.16%)
Delaware(21.51%)
Virginia(20.65%)
DC(58.04%)
North Carolina(22.29%)
South Carolina(29.68%)
Georgia(30.29%)
Mississippi(37.24%)
Alabama(26.70%)
(10)
Split State-Texas(11.6%)
So 16.5 states he won with Black Populations under 18%. 10 with over 18%. I did not count over seas territoroies. And if he wins the remaining states that he is expected to win(Oregon, SD and Montana) you will need to add 3 more states to the under 18%. His weakest Demo is not White people as commonly believed(though White Women has been a tough one), it is Hispanics(mainly older Hispanics). The states Hillary has won with over 18% Hispanic Population-California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada. New York is plus 10%.
Obama can win White Democrats and Independents…despite what the MSM and Clinton camps want you to believe. His biggest hurdle will be older voters and in the Southwest(where McCain holds a regional advantage, don't be shocked if the VP is Bill Richardson just to address this issue). He will win California and New York. He will compete in Ohio and Pennsylvania. But he will also put states into play which Hillary can not. South Carolina. North Carolina. Virginia. Montana. Idaho. Colorado.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, HRC fans, but KY and WV aren’t really going to matter. There are only 99 delegates between the two states. Lets say she takes 65% of the vote, she still only gains 30 delegates which drops his lead to slightly under 120 delegates. Add his pretty much certain win in OR and their 65 delegates, he will gain 15 delegates back putting his lead right back to about 135 or just about where it was at before PA. It’s over. You can’t beat the math. FL and MI will be seeded. She shouldn’t get more than 55% in MI since he wasn’t even on the ballot and give her 57% in FL and the lead still doesn’t go lower than 115 delegates. Not to mention, he has been gaining superdelegates ata rate of about 3 to 1 versus her. It cannot be done, and that is with FL and MI well represented. HRC supporters, I admire your passion and she is a good canidate but she made some huge mistakes and those mistake cost her this primary. Don’t blame your lot in life on Barak Obama. Blame it on the fact that she ignored the caucus states, that she arrogantly didn’t think the race would last past super Tuesday and that she decided to raise her money from their rich friends rather than organizing effectively and using the internet and grassroots. This is not Obama’s fault because if she would have done 2 out of the 3 of those things from the beginning, this would be over. Obama has run a very effective campaign and by looking at this, I can’t wait to see how he will run the country. Obama 08′

Posted by: Tim | May 8, 2008, 5:28 pm 5:28 pm

Obama is currently up by 1/4 of 1 percent (virtually nothing) until Tuesday when Clinton wins W. VA. She will win the actual popular vote.
As for Michigan, it was not a one candidate race. All the Democrats were on the ballot except Obama and Edwards. Both had their names removed to pacify Iowa and New Hampshire and to weaken the appearance of Clinton momentum in what was a sure win for her. He received the benefit for this, he should also have to pay the price.

Posted by: Melanie | May 8, 2008, 5:30 pm 5:30 pm

I strongly support Senator Barack Obama because he will bring a different perspective and fresh new ideas to the White House! So far, you have to admit that he has held his own. Remember: Supporting “change” means also that we break away from the dynasty era (Bush, Clinton). I have difficulty understanding the “experience” factor so many attribute toward Senator Hillary Clinton and against Senator Obama. Nevertheless, I end with this: Regardless to what anyone thinks about Senator Obama’s so-called “in-experience,” he must certainly cannot do any worse than what we have experienced during the last eight years!

Posted by: Louise | May 8, 2008, 5:31 pm 5:31 pm

CD: You are so right: Its not over until the primaries end and it would be an injustice to Hillary Clinton if they tried to force her out. She has every right to campaign in the last of the states. From what I understand she is leading win West Virginia and Kentucky and I hope she wins in Puerto Rico. There is a possibility of seating MI giving Hillary 69 delegates and Obama 59 which he should not be getting any. His name was not on the ballot and she should be getting all of them. The DNC and Dean support Obama and they don’t want Hillary to surpass him in the popular vote.

I don’t feel bad about 90% of blacks voting for Obama what ticks me of is we are not talking about fifty %of the white people who are supporting Hillary we also supported President Clinton we are a faithful voting block also

Posted by: Bishop | May 8, 2008, 5:35 pm 5:35 pm

I’ve never been able to get any Obama supporter to give me a clear explaination as to why he’s the better candidate. I vote on issues, not personality. I assume you are being sarcastic with your comments on social issues. If so, why do you support Obama, who wants to privatize social security and opposes universal health care? ”
As written by “Aloof-forObama”
—————————————-
Obama does not oppose universal health care. He is just not going to force you to get it. His plan would allow you to keep your health insurance if you wish. He has also made it clear that people with pre-existing conditions would be covered in his plan. That might sound like a big deal for most healthy americans but as a father of a daughter who survived cancer, I have to always make sure that she is ALWAYS covered. If there is a lapse in her coverage I wont be able to get her insured again. So if she gets sick again we’ll have to pay for all medical costs out of her pocket.
Hillary had her crack at universal healthcare and failed misserably. Don’t you remember Hillary supporter?
She boasts about all of her 35 years of experience but exactly what has she done in 35? Please tell me because no Hillary supporter has been able to give me any examples.
The economy is going to be one of our biggest issues during the next four years. I can not make a candidate who missmanaged her campaign finances as much as Hillary did my first choice to represent me.

Posted by: David | May 8, 2008, 5:37 pm 5:37 pm

Will women really support someone who wants to put more Anti-Choice judges on the bench? More Roberts and Alitos? McCain is running for Bush’s 3rd term, just like Hillary is running for Bill’s. We have the 2 term rule for a reason. Hillary is just bitter because she thought it was her turn as a right, she didn’t think she would have to earn it. Whoops. She had all the built-in advantages. Don’t start saying shes not a media darling. Geroge S. owes her Husband his career and the ABC Debate showed that. Don’t start saying the DNC is against her. She helped most of these people get to their position(save for Dean). She’s losing her support from the establishment because they have elections to win themselves and to hang on to something thats not going to happen is Political suicide. She started the race with over 100 Super Delegate advantage. Now it’s down to about 10. And she’s down is pledged Delegates, despite winning “the big states”. The swing state strategey is a losing strategey(see Gore ’00, Kerry ’04). The 50 State Strategey is a winning strategey(See Mid term 2006, Obama’s primary). Hillary had the built in advantage and she’s getting beat by regular people. The same regular people she’s claiming to be one of now(except, you know, she never had to worry about paying her mortgage). The Obama’s barely reached this claimed “elite-hood” in 2004 when he became a star. He was just an average State Legislator before then. Times change Hillary, and it’s time for a new kind of politics.

Posted by: Steven | May 8, 2008, 5:39 pm 5:39 pm

Let’s get something straight about Hillary, the reason why she lost the nomination is that she was and is a big liar. She thought she could do the same old shuck and jive slick Willie routine and people were still dumb enough to fall for it. Guess what, she guessed wrong and now has to pay the piper. I should say, she’s staying in it so you can pay the piper, 11.4 million dollars worth of piping that she loaned herself. Yea, that’s right, Mrs, for the working class, give you a tax holiday so you can keep twenty bucks, now want’s you to take your hard earn money and pay off her debt so she can keep the bulk of that 107 million dollars she reported as income last year. Oh, I can see why she loves you. That’s the real truth on why she is staying in the race and you will never get that from her because she is truth challanged

Posted by: Plain Truth | May 8, 2008, 5:39 pm 5:39 pm

SOUNDS like the “elitist” is making his rounds and sucking up to EVERY superdelegate he can. Too bad they are all hypnotized by his rockstar come to the pulpit personality to see that he has NOTHING to go against McCain with in the FALL!

Posted by: Darla | May 8, 2008, 5:42 pm 5:42 pm

They are afraid of losing. They have invested their time into Obama and their egos won’t let them let go. Its not that complicated. They know what we know about Obama. As do the delegates. And it is the delegates who will make the decision and not them. That must really bother them a lot. And that explains really why they are here: they are lobbying their own egos since they know they can’t change the outcome.
Its time for the grownups to grab a hold of this puppy and propel Hillary to the nomination. End game is here.

Posted by: Joseph | May 8, 2008, 5:44 pm 5:44 pm

In our electoral process, several voters fought over loyalty to one candidate or another. Once Senator Obama is nominated, many white voters will vote for him along with most African Americans even those that supported Hillary. I live in southwestern state. Many Hispanics here have changed their mind about voting for Hiillary and now support Senator Obama. Democrats will regain the White House in November along with many Democratic candidates running for federal, state, and local offices. Senator Obama has long coattails.

Posted by: sandy | May 8, 2008, 5:45 pm 5:45 pm

Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter are from the same group now? That’s laughable. Ted Kennedey hated Jimmy Carter. Carter was not a “libreal”…he was a moderate, who believed in peace and social jusitice. Hillary is Libreal compared to the Bush adminsitration, and thats why Jimmy seems so “libreal” now. Jimmy Carter won the election because of the people who are “Hillary’s base” not Obama’s “base”. He didn’t win his election because of African Americans and Elitists. Obama supports real solutions to our problem. On energey he believes we need to look at everything from Solar to Ethanol to clean burning coal to nuclear. Hillary?
On Health Care his focus is on cost, Hillary’s is on forcing people to buy iit(or what?).
On Iraq “We have to be as careful getting out, as we were careless getting in”

Obama is supported by the “First Losers Club” of men who have run for the presidency and failed – Kerry, Kennedy, Dodd, Richardson, Mondale, MCGOVERN!
He is in fitting company, and he’ll fit right in at the club when he too becomes a member either this summer, or in November

Sorry, Emily, I am not wrong. You may be a hardcore Hillary supporter but all of her supporters are not going to desert the party like many of the bloggers on this site. When it comes down to putting a Democrat or Republican in the White House, the Democrat will win.

Posted by: sandy | May 8, 2008, 6:00 pm 6:00 pm

Josephm – you are right when you say that Obama will be in the loser’s club in November. The GOP will be preaching black liberation theology for MONTHS prior to the general election if Obama is the nominee. When the American voters see Obama debate war hero McCain, it will be painfully obvious who the most experienced leader is and McCain will win by a landslide!! DNC GET AN ELECTABLE NOMINEE!! Howard Dean I hope you know that the clock is ticking for you – do your job or lose it!!!!

MargaretMi – Thanks for telling it like it really is about the MSM. This lovefest with Obama is going to lose it for our party in November. The question is…why are they doing it?? Could it be that the Republican controlled media actually WANT Obama to be the candidate so that McCain will be the only man that is electable??? The GOP is licking their chops and will rip Obama to shreds!!! WAKE UP DEMOCRATS!!

Posted by: fairsuperdelegates08 | May 8, 2008, 6:09 pm 6:09 pm

Assume that he is being truthful and will not win in West Virginia and Kentucky. What does that say for him? If he is being truthful, it can only be translated that there are not enough blacks in West Virginia and Kentucky for him to win. On the other hand, it says these Americans in West Virginia and Kentucky, who are hard-working, middle class and white, do not want him as the party’s nominee. I am a Hillary democrat and am not happy how Hillary has been treated by the leadership and super delegates. He can win States with large black populations and he has won caucuses where Hillary did not challenge him, but he cannot win where it will count in November. But for me the bottom line is Hillary must be the party’s nominee for I cannot support anyone else.

Posted by: benvictor | May 8, 2008, 6:12 pm 6:12 pm

Not to mention the fact that you CAN NOT NEGOTIATE with terrorists like Obama thinks he can do- (what an naive egotist!!) I want our children as SAFE as possible!! This country has been divided for long enough! We as a people have finally turned a corner on racism. No presidential candidate did this, it has been the american people! I think we all know that if the media and politicians would not play the racial lines of ignorance, WE THE PEOPLE WOULD BE TRULY UNITED!!! and for the most part we are. As the vote shows plenty of so called white states voted for a black president in 08 like Alaska, Wisconsin and so on. So let the racism rest and elect someone would has the fortitude to affect the kind of change WE THE PEOPLE DESERVE!!!!

(Correction, I meant tripple digit lead in delegates)

Posted by: David | May 8, 2008, 6:23 pm 6:23 pm

fairsuperdelegates08 – every person who wins the presidency has on-the-job training. There is no experience that can prepare you to be a leader in the free world. Where do you people come up with this stuff? Good grief!

Posted by: sandy | May 8, 2008, 6:23 pm 6:23 pm

My honest opinion is to screw the SCOTUS. If Democrats really want it, they’ll do what’s right, instead of acting like a bunch of teen agers following the latest American Idol. I refuse to cede the political ground to such shallow interests, but if they insist on trashing the lawn, they’ll find their necessary coalition in pieces. I’ll vote “present” by voting down-ticket only. I wouldn’t even do that, except we have a damn fine female Democratic candidate for Governor this year.

I, for one, don’t think there’s a downside to the electability issue. The fact that Obama would be the nominee is enough of an historic precedent to change politics as we know it. If he loses, so what? It’s not like McCain is a madman or an idiot. He’s not even a conservative. President Obama would make history. President McCain wouldn’t be the end of the world. That’s how I see it, anyway.

At least will know what we are getting and four years will go by fast but I really think Hillary is going to win I know she is going to come very close she might win all six PRIMARY’S Obama is acting like he doesn’t need WV and KY but why would you let Clinton even get one del, out of WV if your the front runner go close the deal we are only talking about the POTUS put her out win this damm thingthats what I’m saying

Posted by: Bishop | May 8, 2008, 6:54 pm 6:54 pm

Bishop – Senator Obama will not win every state – that is not a reality. He will win the last four primaries.
“The potential of a do-over is slim to none,” [referring to MI and Fl] said Wasserman Schultz, a national co-chair of Clinton’s campaign. “The cost of a do-over is beyond reach. A do-over would be unfair. We still have nerves that are very raw from the 2000 recount in Florida.”
Senator Obama has picked up 7 superdelegates since Monday to Hillary’s 2. He won by 16% in NC to her 1.11% win in IN. He has won more states, more popular votes, more pledged delegates, more endorsements from Govenors, Reps and Senators. Even the governor from AZ supports Senator Obama and it looks like diane feinstein may be havong second thoughts about supporting Hillary.
The fact is Hillary needs 90% of the remaining votes to TIE Obama. Even McCain, who is the presumptive nominee for the GOP, is only getting 75% of the votes in primaries since he became the presumptive nominee.
Cold fact, Bishop, cold fact.

HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT? SURELY YOU JEST!!
Hillary has two ex DNC chairs working for her, an exPresident fighting her battle for her, and most of the democratic state campaign machinery behind her.
…can you imagine if she had to stand on her own. They get double the free publicity…I see Bill’s face on the Tv as much as Hillary’s… they get double the headlines as Obama…more positive media coverage and she is still losing…even with decades of practice at the old poltical games…
All the while obama is fighting off the four of them…Hillary, Bill, Mccain and the media. Obama withstood it all and showed his superiority from day one.And continues to pull away, making her more desperate daily.
Anyone who thinks Hillary is the fighter isn’t really watching. With all the guys fighting for her…she has lost, and in her stronghold too!!!with the wind at her back….The clinton legacy hasn’t helped her,the powerful connections, the years of so called experience, the overwhelming odds she started with, have all been easily erroded by the “inexperienced” senator, who is actually coasting and running rings around her.Obama catches the missiles she hurls at him, smiles ,and hardly even bothers to throw them back. Her campaign is clueless as to how to counter him.The appropriate questions should be:Why is she unable to put him away? Why has she lost so many states by 20+% margins, and only barely won the few by single digits?.Why has her campaign failed, financially, organisationally, and stragetically, and why can’t she appeal to the future pollitical generation(young people),the educated masses, and independents.?And most importantly for the party’s success,..Why has she lost the black ethnic vote?.Take this in context with her lack of trustworthiness, corrupt practices, negativity, and willingness to destroy the party for selfish gain. And ask yourselves, what would happen when the republicans unleash their ammo on her.I dare say,her history has supplied them with ammo of a nuclear scale.Questions about Barack pales in comparison, therefore this plus his stand on the war alone, makes him a much stronger candidate.YES WE CAN!!!!

At one point, I was very leary of Obama. I even voived that opinion on here. I also said i would keep my mind open and watch how he handles certain things. I now am leaning more towards him as President. When I listen to him talk politics…he makes me feel secure, hopeful, and motivated to help bring out a better tomorrow. I hope I can go and see him when he comes to us in Montana! I really think he will be able to bring about the change in America that it has needed for so long. While I am not closing a blind eye to Hillary, I honestly feel the Nations best route is for Obama this year.

Senator Obama wants to get back to Afghanistan – a place we virtually deserted so Bush could play his war games. Will Senator Obama flub something up – of course, he is human; the difference is Senator Obama’s supporters admit to his mistakes; Hillary’s supporters dodge bullets in Bosnia. Look at his blunders which he has overcome, and the look at all of the lies Hillary has spun – no contest!

And do not preach to me about bullets, guns, or rifles. I am very famliar with bullets – I have plenty in my gun case.
AND, just to repeat something you do not seem to understand – there were no bullets to duck when Hillary and Chelsea were in Bosnia. THAT is the point that you seem to prefer to ignore.

“The American voters have spoken” is the gleeful chant. Those that think they screwed up electing GWB; put this guy in the White House and it will probably be much worse for America in a much shorter time. As far as his recent visit to the House of Representative, those that pander to him by calling him ‘Mr. President’ before he has even clinched the Democratic nomination is sickening and about all we can expect from ‘influence seeking politicians’. Oprahma slices baloney well, that’s it. He will tell you anything you need and want to hear; for now. What do you expect him to do if elected, provide free gasoline for life and an immediate end to wars all over the globe? Yeah, he’s a real magician, all right. Where did I put that darned rabbit hole?

According to the recent polls in WVA & Kentucky, Hillary has an Insurmountable lead and predicted to win both states easily by at least 40 points.
It appears that William Jefferson Clinton factors the blue collar – low income voters as Hillary’s biggest supporters.
He goes on to point out that it is impossible for Obama to even make a dent in this lead. It should hold up & even get larger. Tide is turning, tide is turning. Send more Tide & Tithes to the Clinton campaign. It’s over for Obama.

Hillary went to North Carolina knowing that 92% of over one third of black votes are against her. She is courageous and takes the bull by horns. This is the character who never gives up working for you.
Now OBAMA is playing on the REPUBLIC PLAYBOOK AGAIN. He has done nothing but negative ever since Pennsylvania primariy.
OBAMA is a duck, a coward trying to win not by crossing the finish line. A despicable group chanting:
For the party, of the party and by the party; even millions of voters are disenfranchised. (COMMUNIST APPROACH)
There should be a revote if they want to change the results. It’s time a party should be:
For the people, of the people, and by the people.

Given the fact that she had 2% black voters she has a justification to pull the white card. The shoe is still stuck on your foot.

Posted by: NEXT | May 8, 2008, 9:15 pm 9:15 pm

Here we are still. Reverse discrimination. It’s ok for Obama to say he gets the black vote and Clinton gets the white vote. So all she did was say the same thing he did, the same thing the pollsters have been saying and the Obamamedia is all over her ‘racist’ remark. For crying out loud people, he said it too! The media is the culprit in all of this. They need to report the news fairly, clearly and completely. Get out from under Obama’s spell and report like you should. Leave racism out of this and report the news we need to know to make an intelligent decision based on the candidates credentials not the color of their skin. I don’t care what color you are, I only care about how you are going to help this country. The media needs to report that and only that. The media is winding us up,watching us bicker and laughing at our commotion.

Americans, look at how we are squabbling with one another, does it get us anywhere? I plead with everyone on here to please become more educated! Does anyone on here watch the debates, not just listen to or read commentary? Do you all actually take the time to study each candidate, their policies, their history, not just what other people say about them. Do you even know what the real issues are? Can you locate Afghanistan, Iran or Iraq on a map? How many of you know that the term Arab applies to Jews, Christians, Muslims and people of many other faiths, that the term is used to describe a cultural group in a certain geographic region, much like the term Scandinavian. How many of you are economists? Can any of you actually describe each candidate’s economic plan? How many of you understand constitutional law? Have you ever read the US constitution or your state constitution? How many of you are familiar with international law or human rights? How many of you actually care or are you so caught up in wanting a War Hero, the first Woman or African American to be elected that you wont pick the the best candidate

With all the hysterics I am reading on this blog is EXACTLY the reason why the Superdelegates need to get off the fence, make a choice, and move on to the REAL goal (in case you all forgot) getting a Democrat in the White House.

Lisa-go to the polls demographics on ABC. They are split with county based on religious views, race, etc. Obama had the supporters of blacks mainly which you seem to not address in your comments. Also, he had a lot of muslim and athiest backers. In actuality, other races went to Hillary not Obama my friend. I think YOU need to check the exit polls.

SANDY-She is not pulling a race card she is stating the bloody fact. The percentage of racial votes speaks for itself Sandy. You don’t have waste your brain cells to do the math; everyone did that already for you.

Why doesn’t anyone talk to her about the Limbaugh votes that are keeping her going? They are not her supporters, and will vote for McCain in the General Election.

Posted by: carolyn | May 8, 2008, 9:33 pm 9:33 pm

This Obama is surely arrogant and cocky – to an extent that I can’t stand him at all – well I probably would IF he were 65 years old with enough to brag about. But at this point my vote goes to McCain and I don’t care what he has to offer politically. He should and could’ve easily waited for the max another 8 years before running for president, but he jumped in and spoiled probably the only chance that Hillary has and deserves to have. So long, Obama, min. 4 years of McCain admin is fine with me – you are all human beings. Jesus would make fundamental differences, but too bad Obama isn’t Jesus, not even a saint even though he may often feels he is one.

Posted by: tiger | May 8, 2008, 9:34 pm 9:34 pm

I think everyone here needs to take a step back and look at reality. Barack/Hillary had nothing to do with what happened in Fl or MI. It was the head of the DNC in those states. How can you count the votes in MI., when his name wasn’t on the ballot. It was decided today how the states would divide the delegates, Hillary said no, she wants all the delegates in both states. There was talk of 55% for Hillary and 45% for Barack in MI.
The problem with all of this is a split party in the end. Everyone here said they really don’t care if it’s split, ok well let’s see. Do you care about the war in Iraq and are you ready for a war in Iran? Do you have children 18 or over, if so they may be the ones fighting these wars. Do care about who sits on the supreme court. Do you care about Roe vs Wade, Illegal eavesdropping, do you like the lies that continue to come out of DC, have you lost your home yet, you might be next, have lose you job yet? you might be next, how about your pension, is $6.00 a gallon for gas OK, is the food shortage something we need to worry about, how’s no child left behind, has that worked for your children and did your child get into college or was it beyond their reach. These are the things that our vote will affect. So think long and hard before you make that choice, McCain is just 4 or maybe 8 more years of Bush if that is what you want and you are better off than you were 8 years ago go for it. Now as for as the rest of us who do not want more of the same and those of you who say Barack is a muslim or is unpatriotic go to “our futue .org” and watch the video by Norman Lear. Now we all need to realize Hillary nor any other Democrat can win without the African Amercian vote, nor can Barack win without the votes of the rest of America. I think it should continue to June 3 and whatever happens, happens. Barack will campaign in WV, and KY don’t worry and if he loses he does no biggie, there have been lots of whites voting for Barack and lots of black voting for Hillary. The bottom line is if we don’t come together neither will win. Hillary does not want the VP, nor does Barack want two VP’s, however she may wants a position as a Supreme Court , we shall see but we need to think before we get our panty in a bunch.

Thanks IC, I am just trying to keep it real on here and inject some sanity. I will have to say though that this race is still up for grabs. What worries me the most is that many Americans for some reason believe that this election will bring an end to our problems. We as a country are making a huge mistake if that is so. It is up to every single one of us to make responsible decisions in order to make changes NOW, relying on our next administration to start fixing our problems is completely devoid of any real want or commitment for change.

West Virginia only offers 28 delegates, and Kentucky, 51. Obama has 1858 total delegates to Clinton’s 1698 with only 167 more needed from pledged or super delegates. If Clinton had big wins in West Virginia and Kentucky and won by 60% in each, she’d still only have at best, 47 more delegates and Obama 32. She still can’t touch him! The only way she can win is if the super delegates just give it to her regardless of the votes of the people.

Obama people, you have dissed old people, people with no college degrees, and white people voting for Hillary. There is not very many more people left. Love how Obama has united us all. And if race is the factor, I don’t see it being on the white side. Consider how many whites are voting for Obamba as opposed to how many blacks are voting for Hillary. Just because someone determines that Hillary will be their candidate doesn’t make them a racist. I would love to see a black American be president. I would love to see a woman become president. Let’s not put an incompetent president in just because they are of the same race or gender, Also, I would love to see the first black president be the descendant of black slaves in America.

One and all: do you see that the comments made here by supporters of the various candidates rely on essentially the same data to come up with utterly opposite views on these candidates? And further, for those of you who say they will vote for McCane if they can’t have their choice (Obama or Clinton) I say: then you are not now, and never have been, democrats. This man is a walking disaster, who has in just the last month repeatedly shown DENSE ignorance of matters domestic and foreign. He openly says he will continue the policies of the present administration. Is that really what you want? As one example, he cites Clarence Thomas as his example of the kind of jurist he would put on the Supreme Court, a man whose career on the High Court may well be the worst on record. If you are going to cite Thomas, then why not cite Scalia, since Thomas just follows Scalia’s lead, and is, although mad in my opinion, reputed to be a brilliant jurist? Do you really want another president who is incurious, uninformed, and tied to the policies of the present administration?

For those saying lets all united. NO, under no circumstance will I vote for Obama. It’s Hillary or McCain. Obama has lost my trust. No, I am not a bitter, typical white person Mr.Obama I’m a middle aged African American. Obama is a snobbish out of touch politician that earned my vote in GA in the primaries, a sheep in wolves clothing he is. He’ll never get my vote in November, my eyes are wide open now, you will lose in November if you are the nominee Mr. Obama.

Posted by: Dee-Ga | May 9, 2008, 6:48 am 6:48 am

All due respect mathematically Senator Clinton can not win the democratic nomination for 2008. I can’t understand why she is still saying she can?
Let’s do our part as ordinary Americans. It’s time to repair the campaign damage and no matter which candidate you are supporting they are both democrats.
What is important is that we support the democratic party and the candidate with the most popular and delegate votes when this race is called to an end. Please fellow Americans we need each other to over come the price of gas, the war in Iraq and to stand strong as democrats for what is right….. without any name calling or bashing.
We are the people and need to stop voting with emotion and start realizing that Bush was elected to his first term through Florida elections problems. Let’s fix these problems and support any American regardless of color or who they know or have been associated with.
Let’s stand up for our families and help the president elect rebuild the American working class and our failing economy.
This would make me proud of Hillary to do what is in the best interest of the country and the DNC as a whole.
I believe that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama can work together to whatever degree they feel comfortable with and this alliance of supporters and candidates would become the most powerful political team in American history. She commands a strong appeal to many Americans and Obama has a mass appeal to the other side of the coin and no RACE has nothing to do with it.
Imagine the 2 of them and each one of us pooling resources and popularity what a powerful result.
Let’s say 8 years of Obama and then 8 years of Clinton. the sum result of that is Hillary would be in the White House for 16 more years.
There has never been a stronger ticket than this one would be. I totally support this idea and have from the start. Hillary would be in the White House for 16 more years 8 as VP and 8 as President. Awesome and she would be stronger than any president in the history of the USA after 8 years of building her skills and helping Obama grow into a great president. She would help keep the balance in the White House. I say Hillary Rotham Clinton please see the light and as a team you will bring prosperity to the American people like no other team has ever been able to achieve. OBAMA/CLINTON 2008!!!

Posted by: Lou | May 9, 2008, 6:52 am 6:52 am

Hillary thinks WV and KY aren’t important. Okay. When the time comes to vote in my state, I’ll vote for the candidate who DOES think I’m important – the candidate who KNOWS we’ve lost our jobs and our homes and that Bill Clinton started the whole process of outsourcing our jobs, and yes, we’re angry about it. And bitter about it. And of course we turn to God when we’ve done all we can and have to leave the rest in His Hands. Obama knows this – but that doesn’t make him an elitist. Clinton, who wouldn’t know hunger if it hit her in the head, is the elitist. Sure, Obama went to an Ivy League school, but he did it on scholarships, not on his mommy and daddy’s dime.

Posted by: Kaelinda | May 9, 2008, 7:46 am 7:46 am

I just have one question: Why on earth would we want another Clinton as president? Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton? America doesn’t do dynasties at last report.
Why? Things haven’t changed for the better with these two families HOGGING the administration for decades. It’s time for the madness to end completely. None of these burks are ciable candidates, they were selected for us by the media.

I live in Kentucky. Bluntly, Obama will never win in this state. Do you really want Clinton to pull out of this race now; leaving Obama to run against no one; and then get slaughtered in the elections by huge numbers? That would just underscore his problem with white voters.

Its so tiring hearing about the economic prosperity of the Clinton years. Does any one remember the dot com boom and what happened when it went bust. sheeesh … meanwhile between NAFTA and trade deals with China this “fighter for the people” and her husband were sending all of the American jobs out of the country.
Obama/Sebeluis ticket will separate the racist dems from the one who really vote their interest. 60 year old Kathleen Sebeluis – current governor of Red State Kansas (whose father was a two time governor of Swing State Ohio) is a Roman Catholic moderate Democrat. This would be the best ticket for the democrats in the Fall. Then finally all of this Clinton is a fighter garbage can be thrown in the waste bin where it belongs. Yes I’d like to see a woman president – just not THIS woman.

The sad thing about Hillary supporters is that they really believe that she’ll give them free health care, buck a gallon gasoline, while creating high paying jobs for their unemployed and soon-to-be unemployed sons and daughters in factories as green as the City of Oz. In West Virginia she’ll mention an uncle who worked in the mines, in Kentucky, she’ll promise the same while humming a few bars of my old Kentucky Home.
