Obama Hints He Sees Imbalance in the Way the Press Covers McCain
ABC News’ Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., offered up a criticism of the press’ coverage of Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign, during a town hall with seniors in Gresham, Ore., today.
Obama, hoping to soon become the Democratic presidential nominee, was asked in a town hall why McCain, the junior senator of Arizona, doesn’t get "tough questions" when he has things like the Keating Five savings and loan scandal in his past. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/21/us/politics/21mccain.html
Obama chalked it up to the Republican side of the race being settled earlier than the still-ongoing Democratic side and the fact that McCain was at one point counted out of the race.
"I actually think that part of it has to do with the fact that they wrapped up their nomination fairly early," Obama said, "Sen. McCain, you recall, had been written off as not being viable about half way through last year, and he came back. … During that period people were not paying close attention to his record."
Obama did not mention McCain’s involvement with the Keating Five scandal, something that he’s suggested would be fair game in the general election.
"It is very understandable that the press focus has been on myself and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., because this has been a pretty exciting race on the Democratic side," said Obama, the leader in delegates.
Obama then added a bit of a warning for the McCain press corps if Obama is the nominee.
"I would expect that the press will submit him to the same scrutiny that they submitted me [to]," Obama told the questioner. "And if they don’t, I’ll have them talk to you."
Obama continues campaigning throughout Oregon today with his family, where the campaign says he will continue to draw comparisons with McCain.
"I hope that as we move forward in the general election that you pay careful attention to this debate between myself and John McCain, should I end up being the nominee," Obama concluded.

So, it’s perfectly fine for Obama to have “concerns” but if it’s Clinton, it’s called “whining?”
I guess then, that’s it’s fine to have a sexist media, but not a racist media.
There is no difference! Both are terrible and should not be tolerated!

Curtain Time for Barack Obama – Part V

Curtain Time for Barack Obama – Part IV
(17 comments) The solution to the problems arising from the unsuccessful attempts to shut down Operation Board Games would be for Barack Obama to become president and issue a bipartisan pardon to all members of the “Combine” who funded his seat in the US Senate. The scam worked when Scooter Libby took the fall for the Bush administration.

Curtain Time for Barack Obama – Part III
(11 comments) Three days after the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Aiham Alsammarae, the former electricity minister convicted of corruption in Iraq, put up $2.7 million in property to help raise $8.5 million to free Tony Rezko from jail in Chicago, the Times reported that Alsammarae had contributed six times to Obama’s presidential campaign.

Curtain Time for Barack Obama – Part II
(13 comments) If the Combine’s plot with the Bush administration to shut down Operation Board Games had worked, Obama would be home free. But it failed and the Republicans are just waiting to air the roadmap of dirt pieced together from Fitzgerald’s investigation if Obama is nominated. McCain is in the clear because there is no sign of his involvement anywhere.

Curtain Time For Barack Obama – Part I
(32 comments) Republicans have enough damaging information against Barack Obama to knock him off the ballot before the November election. Those at the top of the Democratic Party know this by now and voters need to recognize that if they nominate him they are throwing the election. Nothing else can explain why they would allow this disaster to happen.

It’s all about HOW you do it. These are legitimate concerns and comments. McCain’s campaign is rife wife corrupt ties and schemes on public financing and the media acts like he is a long lost buddy. Can’t wait for that 1st debate.

What a joke! When the boyz club at MSNBC was making fun of Clinton and the Obama fan club was selling “bros before hoes” T-shirts, I never heard a single word of complaint from this elitist snob. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, all of a sudden complaints about bias in the media are legit rather than whining? Give me a break. If you can’t take the heat “sweetie” get out of the kitchen. This is yet another reason why this Democrat is not voting for Obama.
Posted by: bells | May 18, 2008, 3:55 pm 3:55 pm
Of COURSE McCain has received less coverage. He isn’t news! McCain is getting a “free ride”, partly because the news media has been so busy with the anointing of Obama for the last few months. Any “extra” time on a newscast has been spent tearing Hillary Clinton apart and telling us she’s “finished”. The media paid attention to the Republican race for awhile, until they helped Huckabee get rid of Romney, the most viable and intelligent candidate. Ron Paul is still a minor worry, but mostly to McCain. If Paul decides to run an independent campaign, it will surely elect a Democrat in November. Otherwise, McCain’s chances of election will be greatly increased if Hillary is forced out by the DNC (as they’ve been trying to do from the get-go). But, for the moment, Old Man McCain isn’t especially newsworthy.

well first of all, what do you really expect obama to talk about?? his experience on the issues?? ok, so that takes up a half an hour, then what?? im pretty sure we all already know where he stand s on the issues, and we all know where mccain stands on the issues. so really, it all comes down to the mudslinging and the B.S. that americans really cant stand. who needs campaign reform though right?? i mean, its only going to cost between one and a half and two BILLION dollars to elect a president. i mean, what else could that money really be spent on right??

He wants kit glove treatment all the way and there are the idiots out there who do what he says. Invasion of Body Snatchers: “Why do you speak ill of Obama? first off, im just AMAZED at the amount of attention (or in my opinion, excuses for whoever is losing) that democrats, by in large, put on media coverage. do democrats just vote soley by what fox news or msnbc reports?! is that what you go to the polls and vote on?! is the average american not smart enough to read throught the lines, and realize that certain tv stations and newspapers lean one way or the other?! im not saying its right, but do you automatically think because fox news leans towrds conservatives, that THATS the reason one canidate or another will lose the election?! i mean, maybe its true, but have americans become THAT stupid??? what ever happened to actually listening to the words that come out of the canidates mouths, and there past voting records?? hmmmm, just a thought.. quit trying to find excuses for EVERYTHING.

It’s pretty clear by now that Barack Obama is running a defensive (some would say whining) campaign. While it may not be the complete picture that is being painted thus far I think it’s fair game to assume that a large proportion of Americans would agree.
Considering that the majority of the MSM is clearly “in the tank” for Barack Obama I cannot understand today’s complaint. True, they have somewhat subjected him to some scrutiny thus far (Rezko, Wright, Michelle Obama, Hamas) the counter to that is that the MSM is more than happy to “spin” these events in Obama’s favor.
Regarding Keating 5, this matter was already settled in the Senate years ago. His involvement was minimal and nearly 100,000 dollars was returned to the United States Treasury. However, unlike Obama’s characterization of this matter, McCain continues to face scrutiny over this event not only from the MSM, but from extremist factions on the left and the right.
Finally, Mr. Obama stated, “I would expect that the press will submit him to the same scrutiny that they submitted me [to].” It is incorrect for him to use the past tense of the word, submitted, since the scrutiny that Mr. Obama should face and will face is far from over. The American public has many questions that they will submit to Mr. Obama which he will have to face until the general election.

The Obama bashers don’t even read the articles they comment on now(have they ever?). There isn’t a single thing in this article that indicates Obama is whining about anything. In fact, he acknowledges that it is reasonable for the media not to cover McCain and seems to relish the time to come when they will cover him.
Come on you tools, if you’re going to whine about Obama, at least have the decency to read the articles you’re commenting on. You think you’re going to win swing voters like me over with those tactics? Your choir is the only one who is impressed with those tactics, those of us making up our minds see those tactics for what they are- Stupid and desperate.

The “Vote for Change” reregistration drive and the “Obama Organizing Fellows”
program are two things that the GOP and McCain should really worry about. This is not 2004. The old rules and divisions
are fading fast.
I already see a trend for McCain – the Maverick – Bush makes ignorant comments regarding “Appeasement” in Israel and McCain backs up Bush’s statement. McCain then goes before the NRA (Introduced by Karl Rove) talking about Democrats lack of support for the second amendment. He is taking up the Republican lines to shore up his numbers. The GOP is a sinking ship and a proponent of failed economic, social, environmental, and diplomatic policies.
This will be an easy decision when voters see Obama and McCain side by side in a debate – the choice will be very clear.

see theres the problem.. you’re leaving it up to other americans to try to swing your vote one way or the other??!! it has NOTHING to do with what i, or the nextt preson tells you.i think thats a huge problem in america today. NO BODY THINKS FOR THEMSELVES ANYMORE. listen to the canidates talk about the issues, see how they have backed that up in the past, and then decide on who fits your beliefs and values best. if there are people on the fence between barack obama,( the most liberal voting record in the senate) and john mccain (not a HUGE conservative, but lightyears away from the socialistic obama) you just shouldnt be able to vote. im not saying that any of the canidates are who i want, i cant believe we couldnt come up with something better than this, but i knew who i was voting for months ago. i just dont understand how people could be on the fence between these two?! they have TOATLLY differnet values and beliefs on governments role for the country.

It’s unfortunate that this election is coming down to race, and little else. Our only hope is that, by November, Americans will have a better picture of Obama’s POLITICS, which are a LOT more important (and scary) than his race. We need to think about the CANDIDATE (and his/her philosophies), not his/her ethnicity. The sad part is that by November, it will be too late for Hillary Clinton, the best remaining candidate in either party.
Posted by: Rhys | May 18, 2008, 4:30 pm 4:30 pm
Obama isn’t “whining.” READ THE ARTICLE. He was ASKED by a person in the audience to explain the lack of questioning McCain has received about things like the Keating Five. He actually said at this moment the lack of questioning was reasonable and not in any way unusual. How is that “whining?”
Obviously there are some Republicans out there that want to do a rerun of the Clinton years and demonize any Democratic nominee. They smeared Clinton and now they’ll smear Obama. C’mon Republicans. Run on the issues.

Republicans just can’t stand it that Obama will be the next president. They want someone who is a republican to further ruin the country. We are good and fed up with republicans who want to privatize social security and make things harder for retirement. Republicans can’t be trusted to have the best interests of average Americans. Obama is a true christian, not a phoney christian like George Bush. Obama will deal fairly and honestly with all legislators and work on getting the best solutions for problems we face. Now is not the time to trust one more republican when it has been republicans who have brought our country to despair.

Obama was hand picked by Palmer, to succeed her as she ran for higher office. It didn’t work out and she came back and asked Obama to quit the race. He would not just quit, he had agreed to run, gathered finance, and planned his campaign. She tried to get on the ballot
with a petition, Obama had her Petition
examined officially and it was found that many of the names were not valid .
This is no reason to disparage Obama,

What exactly is a positive in regards to our middle east policy as it stands now? GWB and by extension McCain have strengthened Iran through their failings in Afghanistan and Iraq. Their tough talk diplomacy has decreased our standing in the world and given terrorist groups the best recruiting tool ever.

Seah must have been on vacation in the weeks before the Indiana and North Carolina primary b/c the media gave Obama everything BUT a free ride.
Rev. Wright pasted on every major network and article.
Results: Obama wins North Carolina by 14.7% and loses Indiana (similar demographics as Ohio and PA) slighty by 1.4%
Neither Clinton or Obama have recieved a free ride from the media (Bosnia-gate, Bitter-gate, Rev. Wright-gate, Bill Clinton-gate etc). John McCain has.

Howdy Doody,
“Funny how Obie doesn’t complain or speak up when his fellow Democratic Senator, Hillary Clinton, is being vilified in the press.”
I would agree with oyu there Howdy Doodie, it does seem somewhat suspect that Mr. Obama will not come to Mrs. Clinton’s aid when she is being tumble dried, given she has on several occasions ‘defended him’ when the media was heating up around him. Even the last Bush blunder regarding “appeasement” showed Mrs. Clinton’s loyalty to the Democaratic party.
Now, you also said,” Its ok for her to be trashed, but when they ask Obama a tough question, they’re not being fair.”
Howdy Doodie, I just don’t think that was a ‘tough question’ put to Mr. Obama. I just wouldn’t sort the questions that way. I think it was an easy question that gave Mr. Obama an opportunity to put MR. McCain in the spotlight, or at least open a window to look further at some questionalble connections Mr. McCain may have had.

JIMMY..
ok, well said. im sure that would be a good start. but there has to be balance. if we pull out, and we give up on the very REAL war on terroism, like obama wants to do immedeately( which would be a bigger disaster of decisions that bush EVER made) what happens to all the terrorist that want to kill us?? what happens to all of them? u think there just going to say thank you, and give up on their plans?!?! im not saying i agree with what bush has done, contrary to what ben thinks and wants to try to portray, but WE ARE THERE. if its handled properly, it can be won.

Tim,
While I agree that getting out of Iraq will be a lot tougher than it was to get in, I do not believe it’s a war we can actually win. Long term stability and democracy will never endure in Iraq without indefinite U.S. presence. Unfortunately que sera, sera. We can do our best there for another year tops, then the Iraqis should be on their own. There has to be smarter ways to combat terrorism other than to contiune a prolonged losing battle in Iraq. Engaging in meaninful diplomacy with Iran and Syria to try to stop them from starting WWIII? Not a bad first step.
Posted by: Jimmy | May 18, 2008, 5:24 pm 5:24 pm
The money for Iraq was NEVER there.
The whole war has been paid for with plastic.
Which means that even if that money had been used for social programs (not the government’s responsiblity unlike military spending)…
THOSE would have been paid for with plastic too.

the world was a differnet place when clinton was there for starters. then due, partly, to his incompetency, 9/11 happened. its been different ever since, and will continue to be that way whether you realize it or not. im sure if clinton were still in office, everything would be the same right? no 9/11, a stable economy, no energy crisis? everything would be juuust fine. and im sure if john kerry was elected, we would have dealt with the “pesky” terrorism problem, and it would have been over with a year after 9/11. the fact is, that our goverment has put us in SERIOUS debt. i mean serious. and you cant blame just democrats or republicans. they are all to blame. so even if there is compromise, you think that we can afford any of the ideas he has?! socialized health care? free college? continuing the fraud of a welfare program? not concerned with fixing the social security issue? the list goes on and on. then he thinks we should punish the oil companies and set up “reasonable” profit boards for companies??!! are you kidding me?! all of a sudden, the government is going to tell us how much money we can make??!! wow, im getting upset so i need to stop at that…

McCain will ask the insurance companies to lower prices on health insurance to help working people. He will also give a gas tax holiday to give a little relief to working people. McCain will secure Iraq before leaving that country. Obama will pull out and then have to return costing more tax money. McCain knows his foreign policy. Obama don’t have a clue.

Did you know that McCain was condemned by the UN for his violation of the rights of Native People in Arizona?
“ACSA study reveals that after assembling a team of “pro-Peabody Western Coal” Indians and obtaining a false “Hopi-Navajo” Tribal Counsel designation by the Bureau of Indian Affairs for these paid Tribal representatives, in the period 1974-1996, Senator McCain was able to get large bands of the Dineh-Navajo relocated off their lands, so that Peabody Western could mine the coal under their farms at nominal expense.”

McCain was indirectly compensated by street name cash contributions to his Federal Election Fund during his Presidential runs, and through family business with Las Vegas Casinos who benefited from the coal driven power he supplied…”

I am a democrat and I am so sick of Obama and most of the democratic leadership. Obama is a whiny, weak candidate and he is most likely going to win the nomination. If anyone criticizes him they are being unfair or racist. Hillary is stronger on national defense, the economy, and everything else and yet it appears that Obama is going to win the nomination. While Hillary has some baggage, her baggage is a different kind from what Obama is carrying. No one could with a straight face question Hillary’s patriotism. Obama’s patriotism, weakness on national security, associations, and so on will be fair game for the republicans–as they are for a lot of democrats. Yet even though Hillary probably could win the election, the democratic party leaders are all circling to protect Obama. It is disgusting.

so none of you read the article, you just read the title and derived some meaning from that…
lol, this is why the republicans will lose…learn to read people
also your actions are the reason hillary lost the primaries, she issued attacks and changed the rules of the game at every turn, and she found her “voice” (the one that she could convince poeople is her voice one of many) too late in the game.
plus mccain is loved by the media, he claims they are his base…
so if someone brings up wright, they better bring up hagee, if someone wants to bring up obama talking to foreign countries, then they better talk about mccain and hamas.
PS look up appeasement before trying to use it in the way that the bush mccains are trying to redefine the word.
talking isnt appeasement, and when they sited that “senator” and hitler, realize what that senator did…
that way you dont end up getting owned by someone like chris matthews on national tv LOL

Lolz, BO thinks now hes getting lots of bad press, and McCain is not. Is he serious? If not for the press cuddling him until the Wright controversy, he wouldnt have gone far. He wouldnt even last til Super Tuesday. The Clintons cannot go out in full force during the Dem primaries because BO is a fellow Democrat, after all. And he thinks now that he’s hardened. Wait til the general election comes, BO. You will be flattened by the Republican machine, and even inside your own party, by the Dems you and your surrogates have belittled (read Hillary democrats).

Obama is weak and whiny. Why do you think just this past week, Edwards had to come out to protect him after Hillary won W. Va. Then all the democrats had to circle around Obama to protect him because they thought Pres. Bush had attacked him on national security issues. If that doesn’t mean that they all have some concerns about Obama as a candidate, I don’t know what else it could mean. It is really sad when there is still a stronger democratic candidate in this race. The democrats are making a big mistake, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone as it isn’t the first time. I’m just getting sick of it.

A truly incredible complaint! This man has been the press “darling” ever since he gave his “bringing the country together” speech the first time, and with no one demanding to know how one so far out on the political extreme edge could even see, let alone understand, those on the middle let alone the other edge. His idea of “uniting” appears to be making everyone else get in line behind him. That is relevant to this complaint – he can tolerate no differences. It is all about him and his greatness! Laughable.

I read the headline about Senator Obama stating that the press coverage on Senator McCain and thought — “The guy is stepping up to the plate and asking the press to stop being such obvious Obama Girls”. And his statue raised in my eyes.
No, the fellow who has yet to get a question that is above the level of his favorite color is saying that his opponent, who gets slammed for wearing the wrong color socks, is getting special treatment. That takes lying and exaggeration to a whole new level. Even in a Presidential Campaign where truth takes a holiday that statement should be fodder for every comedian, political pundit and morning show host. If they have any guts, and want to regain a little of their credibility, each one of them ought to start their next broadcast with “Come on Barack, even we can’t believe that one. Get back to issues — like who the President talks to or your favorite color.”
It is not even the campaign yet and the Freshman Senator is posturing just like a seasoned Federal Employee.

While I do favor Hillary, more than that, I first opposed Obama. I believe that if everything about Obama’s “relationship” (yes even Obama called it a relationship even tho his supporters wanted to ignore it as “guilt by association”) with Rev. Wright, Ayers, etc. had come out before Feb. and if FL and MI were not disenfranchised, Obama would not be where he is in this race. Even now, Hillary can’t criticize him because it may hurt him. He is flawed. If you call that a fair race, then no wonder you are pleased. He can’t even get all the democrats to support him. Let’s see how you feel when he loses the general.

I’d like to know what happened to the mccain of 2000, when he would be man enough to question his own party if they were headed in the wrong direction.(i.e. tax breaks for the rich) Now he’s like every other wimpy republican. He wants to distance himself from the worst president in history but will have a hard time of it since he voted with bush 95% of the time. mc-more-war does not stand a chance in the fall. I find it pathetic that the Obama supporters have to resort to scare tactics about women’s rights, supreme court justices, etc. just to keep democrats from leaving when Obama gets the nomination. If women’s rights were so important to you, perhaps the woman in the race should have been treated better. Your candidate doesn’t even know that it is politically incorrect to call a professional woman “sweetie”. Get real.

What first made me doubt Obama was his pretending to be a different kind of politician. I’ve heard that too many times and when I hear it from a politician, I know it is a story and they are, in fact, more a typical politician than not. Now you are watching him move more to the center and change his positions ever so slightly to try and capture the moderates that he needs to win. If that isn’t a typical politician, I don’t know what it is. Obama is qualified to be the opening act for the politician who is really qualified to be president.

Obama sponsored bill Poverty Act of 2007 that has passed the Senate and the House and is now awaiting the signature of the President. If the President does not sign it will become law after a time frame. The bill gives to the United Nations $845,000,000,000 billion for the purpose of increasing the daily cost of living for people in African countries, such as Kenya. Yes, Kenya is asking for 27 Billion. Who is the man trying to overthrow the government of Kenya? Obama’s cousin Raile Odinga, I know just a coincidence. The bill states that the United Nations can impose a tax on the citizens of the United States to make this happen. This of course is in addition to the monies that are already pledged and given by the United States government. Welcome to Obama land! Now you know some more of the story why this man is considered the messiah to the African community. Why doesn’t he talk about these things that he has set into motion. I think the average middle-class American would be shocked. And, I have to ask without seeming racist–why the African community, why not India, or places in China or ——

You can measure the concern and fear among the Republicans by the amount of posting they do on blogs. Their desperation is showing. They have a less than wonderful candidate, so they are all over the place attacking, attacking, attacking in the vain hope to distract folks from the truth about McCain.
Many see through this simple and ineffective ploy, and for those who don’t, they would have voted Republican simply because that is what they always do, and they don’t care about the quality of the candidate so much as they do the ‘R’ after the name.
This effort to flood the internet with defense for McCain and attacks against Obama and veiled threats about disrupting the Democratic party because the ‘wrong’ candidate is going to be nominated is the last gasp of a dying campaign. Pity the poor Republicans who have to champion a candidate like McCain.

If you want to understand the concept behind the money for Kenya, go to the Naval War college.
It is their plan. The idea is, if the people of a country make on average $3000, then they wont be interested in supporting revolution or terrorists.
The flaw in the plan is that it depends on cultural changes, specifically having women get an education and to go to work so they can make part of that $3,000.
Women are not equal under the law in some Muslim countries. So if we are to get those countries up to the non-terrorist/non-poverty level, we have to let women get educations and the men dont like that. They want them home. I cant solve it. I am just reporting the ideas behind the process unfolding in African and the Middle east.

We might as well determine the best qualified to be the leader by how many people who come to listen to him. Might as well as that appears to be why he is going to be the democratic nominee. well McCain has been around the political scene a lot longer than Obama and more people know him better. McCain has even put out effort to talk to the younger demographic through comedy as SNL last night or Jon Stewart. I think people need to remember humorous as he can be hs is still an Arizona conservative but in some ways more independent minded. Key is whom he surrounds himself with as advisors as they are likely to drive policy. If Obama starts this inequality questioning to strongly it will adversely affect him as he is also benificiary of a lot of positive press till just recently, thanks in large part to the bruising Hillary campaign and now possibly Bush shennanigans as he backs McCain. The American People is whom this whole campaign is unfair to.

Furthermore, for all of you who claims that Obama has gotten a free ride, his name has been dragged through the dirt by the media with the Rezco, Wright, and bitter scandals, and he was able to hold on. McCainhas many demons in his past that has not been brought to light yet. Demons such as calling his wife a c**t in public, his own hate-mongering pastor problems, Keating Five, and loobyist problems that would Make Hillary Clinton look like a saint. The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.
13-year total of $845 billion

Anders. The difference is that Hagee is still accepted and DESIRED by McCain, even though Hagee blames New Orleans for God’s ‘vengeance’ on them, due to their plan to have a Gay Pride parade the day of Katrina.
McCain wants that kind of fundemantalist on his side, bringing in the sheep to vote for him, based on Hagee’s perverted Biblical interpretations.
McCain SOLICITED Hagee’s endorsement and still accepts his endorsement.

Isn’t it great that Obama has funded his campaign by ordinary citizens giving him 10 or 20 dollars at a time. What do all these people see in him that they don’t see in other candidates? They see that he is sincere, honest, hard-working, and dedicated to helping ALL citizens. mc-more-war really doesn’t stand a chance this fall. Obama 2008!!!

McCain’s health is not vetted.
1. No medical report out yet, although promised on April 15th, and supposedly due out again on day of the Oregon election.
2. Nothing in the report will cover the new fangled testing available for incipient Alzheimer’s.
They dont dare go there. He has a reputation in the Senate as “not a detail man.” That’s polite code for, he cannot remember anything we tell him from one day to the next. Where’s Liebermann?

Hit a sensitive nerve, eh?
I have read the EXACT same comments on several blogs–yeah, I know, Republicans are simply too busy to bother–but the fact is that some folks on this and other blogs are simply repackaging the Republican talking points in a vain effort to derail the candidacy of the next president–one of the two Democratic candidates. That’s why the blogs are being overrun with hate mongerers and story-tellers and links to ridiculous sites that re-inforce misinformation and hatred.
Incredible. Too bad the Republicans can’t accept the truth, that after the Bush disaster they have become a tarnished and unelectable party, made up of folks who hide behind the label to obscure their hatred of America, of its middle class, of civil liberties, of racial equality, etc.
We can only hope that the next eight years of Democratic sensibilities right the crooked ship of state that the Republicans have sailed.

Democrats unite get real the press gave him the nomination on a platter. We wont unite just cause hes a Democrat He simply lacks the courage and conviction to warrant our support. Hes just a well packaged nothing.

bhrandon,
The reason that Hillary will NOT WIN Oregon is because there are far too many EDUCATED, LATTE SIPPING, PRIUS DRIVING, STARBUCKS GOING ELITIST living in the state. You know, those same peoplr she trashed while she was in Pennsylvania and Indiana. And also those same voters that she will need to retain her Senate seat in New York. let us hope that they have a short memory.

Jim,
Your comments on the media are debatebale, but the fact remains that you haven’t pointed out where in this article that Obama complained about the media. YOU DID NOT READ THE ARTICLE. So, when you have read it, come back and we can have an intelligent debate about the media’s role in this process.

Forget folks like Susan. Many of them are closet Republicans who couldn’t even tell you what the Democratic platform is. They pretend to be for Hillary Clinton without even understanding who Clinton is or what she stands for. They use the presumed insult to women everywhere that Hillary is not likely to be the nominee to attack Obama AND the democratic party itself.
Do you REALLY think a true Democrat would ever risk the overturn of Roe V Wade? That any intelligent woman who cared about our future would risk another 100 years in Iraq? That they would endanger their parents and grandparents social security?
No, women like Susan are agitators who are trying to make us flee from the Democratic party on scurilous reasons. Of course, nothing will satisfy these women–not the idea of Hillary as VP or Hillary appointed to the Supreme Court, or the new age of Democrats; don’t you find that a bit much? Of course. Because most of them are Republicans hiding in Democratic clothes to try to affect the elections. Only the truly simple of mind believes this line of argument.
Go Democrats, whoever the nominee is!

Well Catleya,
With All due respect, The Clinton-Obama debate is about over. He is less than 20 pledge delegates away from obtaining the majority of pledged delegates that were in the offering, Since that will likely secure him more Super Delegate support, the primary race will be virtually over and then we can focus on old John Mac Daddy Cain.

kitty,
Why is it all the Republicans over there turn out to be closet gay. yet against gay rights ?
And all the democrats that get in trouble cheat on there wifes with ladies and are on the right side of human/gay rights ?
Posted by: Concerned Aussie | May 18, 2008, 7:02 pm 7:02 pm
lol its true democratsunited
she destroyed her base in a vein attempt to try to make a comeback, and this is what is so sad about Hillary. She thought she should win this thing she thought it was in the bag.
Suddenly she realizes her message is completely out of touch with america and that this sure thing is all of a sudden in jeapordy.
instead of defining herself, she decided to go on the attack, and then start playing change the rules so that i win, and then finally she hit something with america as her campaign found a message that would help her
she paints the non elitist as an elitist meanwhile turning it around so that she the elitist was actually a non elitist
Now oregon has a nice hub of well educated people, but there are a lot of rural people here too.. clintons new base.
but it wont matter because those people are all very hard core republicans
and i think limbaugh has little effect here in oregon.
it will be sad when hillary realizes that she has destroyed her real base after this is all over

It will be something to celebrate, when Obama loose. advise for OBAMA HUSSEIN BARAK-HAMAS BODY, instead wining, He should start packing!!!, and live this race still smiling, because it will get dirty!!! He has no chance , and is about time to exit. McCain will be OK, and Obama -junior has His nose in clouds for all 15 monts, it is time to get Him down to earth. i know you cant read but im going to tyr to talk to you anyway…
obama is one of hte most impressive political people in a very long time. He IS something to write home about
he has redefined how you campaign, how you talk to people like a person instead of a politician, how you raise money, and he will redefine not only washington, but the world… and even more importantly how the world views the united states. He will bring honor back to the US.
And
he will redefine the political map. watch as magically your red states turn blue!

John McCain came to power via his dad who was an Navy Chief
Hillary Clinton came to power Via a cheating husband and a sympathy vote.
Barack Obama came to power via his own effort and determination to make a better life for Americans like him.. How can he be an elitist ?
Why because he speaks well ?
Because he has goals for your nation and the world ?
If you guys dont want him we’ll have him !

bhrandon,
Oregon has a CLOSED primary, so I doubt the Limbaugh effect will have any effect at all.
Hillary should have kept her mouth shut with the Elitist stuff. She gambled her base support for another and it did NOT pay off. Now she will have some explaining to do.
But, she has a pattern of abandoning her friends when they don’t support or agree with her. In 1995, she told Bill to “Srew them”, referring to working class white southerners because she was upset that they handed congress to the Republicans. It was actually Bill Clinton who set her straight. When MoveOn, a company founded to help the Clintons with their impeachment problems endorsed Obama, she decided to trash them as a bunch of activiste elitist… If it weren’t for them, there would be no Senator Clinton!!!! These are just examples of what happens when you cross the Clintons. The sniper fire becomes real.

How about this, fake Democrats: Democrats flee from racial hatred and ethnic hatred. The very fact that so many of you so-called Democrats show your true Republican colors announce your duplicity.
You can argue that Hillary’s approach to implementing the DEMOCRATIC platform appealed to you more than Obama’s approach to implementing it, but as a Democrat–a true Democrat who understands the philosophy of the Democratic party–you would never base your argument on hatred.
Go back to the all white cave where you find folks who share your Neaderthal outlook.

Ron Paul got screwed outa this race big time all because of the julianni guy tried to rig it so he could win it and made it so McCain did.
That guy Juliani is a disgrace he was incharge when 911 happened and acted like he should be rewarded for it if he did his job it never would have happened.

in fact its almost as bad as people going out and wasting a vote on hillary for rush limbaugh,
you are mocking the many men who fought to give you a country that you could vote in… you are obviously unpatriotic
vote for mccain its the same thing!

FakeBama,
You can’t criticize Obama because he is being backed by senior democratic Officials. This is another one of the smears Hillary supporters use because thaey are upset that Hillary could not win their backing. Too bad, so sad.
I could just as easily say that Hillary is being backed and is married to a no good lying adulterer who made history as only the second President in the history of our nation to be impeached by Congress. But, I won’t say that because I respect both of the Clintons and I don’t judge her for her husband’s actions. She faught very hard for Richardson and Ted kennedy’s support. The fact is that she lost the game. Simple as that.

Its those politicians that realize that when 74% of hte public thinks the country is on the wrong track that change is what they need.
Obama certainly does not want to have the same gas oil policy as bush
that is simply untrue, unless you meant to say mccain…then…yes thats true

It is useless to tell some of these folks to read the article–most of them apparently can’t read to begin with, and those few who do can’t comprehend.
Besides, they are so on target with the Republican talking points that they aren’t even posting here about this particular article. They are posting to dis Obama because they are terrified of him winning…..as they should be, because he’s going to return the US to the great nation it was before the Republicans did their best to destroy it.

ANother Aussie,
You know, I don’t blame Clinton Supporters as much as I blame Clinton. SHE is the one who has them “clinging” to false hopes. I think that it is terrible to continue to raise the hopes of your supporters after it has become crystal clear that you have no chance in hell at winning this thing.
As a result, her supporters are blind to the fact that she is now over 20 million dollars in debt, has fallen significantly behind in the delegate count and has fewer popular votes. Even when you include MI and FL she is still behind on both counts because her campaign is not counting the caucus votes. This race was over in late February, and all she has done was hardened the hearts of the democratic party, made her supporters more “bitter”, and has given them false hopes.

So, we have a choice, stay and lie to OUR selfs, or begin #3 Party. Is it worth to think about???
Posted by: KARLINO47 | May 18, 2008, 7:46 pm 7:46 pm
Fakebama
what does obama want to change in the white house?
well for starters,
the bullcrap foreign policy that has been the bushes excuse for a foreign policy,
he wants to protect the environment, reduce green house emissions, alternative energy sources, global warming
he wants to GET US OUT OF THIS TERRIBLE WAR THAT,
how many people have lost their lives for nothing, how much money have we thrown down the drain, remember when bush said gas prices would actually drop….
THE WAR IN IRAQ IS JUST WHAT MCCAIN SAYS IT IS, A WAR FOR OIL
obama wants to redefine how washington works, from eliminating terrible spending, to becoming a more transparent government one where the people can be involved in.
he wants to work to rebuild america not only at home, but in the eyes of hte world, to not continue this pandering to rich oil buddies, but to become the great nation that we are
Finally the world can start to believe in the united states again, our standing has long suffered with bush
i will finally be able to say with pride that im from america when i travel abroad instead of trying to skirt the issue our outright lying and saying im from canada
Now fakebama what does mccain want to change about bushs policies?
oh….wait nothing!
and hes going ot magically win the war! give us all billions of jobs nad cash and create a nice environment that is clean…oh all in his first term
first term?

The same is true of 98% of the posters here: they rant and they rave and they lie and they distort, all in an effort to disguise the fact they don’t have a clue.

this primary season has been all on the up and up, the dnc has done nothing but uphold the rules. Obama has done nothing to fl and mi,
hillary wasnt for counting them until she realized she was losing, and if she wants every vote to count, why is she excluding the caucus states?
is that a double standard? count every vote up until i stop winning! then ignore it because i must win!
Karlin07 you are obviously a republican fool who has all the key names ready even though you dont know what those names mean
were those names really going to destroy obama, dont you think hillary would have used it against him to win the primary?

I am a woman from a so-called developing country, but I am appalled to see how the press of a developed nation is treating its first possible female presidential nominee. Today on Tim Russert’s Meet the Press, he invited a panel of four guests: two Democrats (of course Obama supporters) and two Republicans (Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA), Harold Ford, Jr., Mike Huckabee, Mike Murphy, Bob Shrum). In the end, Tim Russert showed a clip of Hillary Clinton campaigning. As soon as the clip ended, all five of them laughed at Hillary. This was really in very bad taste and shows the bias of the media against Clinton. I have repeatedly observed most of the time in these types of political discussions (especially on Tim Russert’s shows) that no Hillary supporter is invited in the panel. The entire panel gangs up against Hillary Clinton. I will sum up that the media is handing over this Presidential nomination to Obama on a platter.

Unbiased,
I saw that clip of Meet The Press. They were laughing at the ridiculousness of her claims. Hillary is playing the only card a losing politcican has… Which is to blame the media. She wasn’t blaming the media when she was ahead by 20 points before this process began. She wasn’t blaming the media when Obama was dragged through the Wright and Bitter scandals. She wasn’t blaming the media after that sham of an ABC debate when they brought up every scandal from Obama’s side and barely mentioned Bosnia. They even “appeased” her on the Bill Richardson question when they said “I know you don’t want to talk about that issue, so let me just ask…”. Why did they not extend the same courtesy to Obama? Where was all her media whining then? The media is reporting the facts. And the facts are that she CAN NOT CATCH OBAMA in the delegate count ergo, the race is over. That is why they were laughing. I was laughing too.

well brandon… You are very wrong, and I am not Republican, but Democrat( TOMORROW- INDEPENDANT)… rules were made by DNC < before primary, it shuld never be a such rule , each state MUST!!! have primary , just work with other states on date, and we would never have a such sensless, stupid
situation. It should never be a such thing, like penalty , because DNC said so!!!, stupid and those who did that should be dismiss from DNC!!!Hillary agree, but quickly realize, that it was a terrible mistake, Obama never admited anything, and especjally that He lost in both states. This is why he is so much against counting all votes. People in both states should not vote at all to punish DNC. We are talking about over 2 milion people. He went to talk to voters toFlorida, and what Florida told HIM "GET OUR A.. OUT FROM FLORIDA, SAME SHOULD HAPPEN IN MICHIGAN. YES!!!!!!!

KARLINO47 MICHIGAN and FLORIDA will be seated Barack didnt have his name on the ballot in Michigan and he didnt get to campaign in Folorida… Hillary agreed to the rules she agreed to the fact the face would be for plegede delegates until she realise she was loosing then she canged the rules…
She also said about twenty times the number that is needed to win this nomination and now that Obama is almost there she changes the rules again. No one buys it KARLINO47.
Hillary has lost it will all be clear for you on wensday.
I hope Hillary handles the lose like a champ and not a sore loser because that way madness lies!

ANother Aussie,
SO true. ABC railed Obama, but they gave him an opening to get Clinton, but he passed. He ut her some slack and gave her a pass for the one Clinton scandal that they brought up but she returned the favor by hammering him in. No good deed goes unpunished and it shows how ugly Clinton can be.
What’s so funny is that Clinton supporters call him a wimp for not attacking her and when he gets tough on her, he’s a hypocrite, arrogant, and all of the above. The man can do no right. When he becomes president and provides all of them with Health Care, they will gladly accept it while still calling him all kinds of ugly names.

The media said it was racist today when they should a man wearing a shirt with a monkey and underneath was a monkey. So what if Obama looks like a monkey. I remember people wearing shirts of BUSH saying he looks like a monkey.

Another Aussie,
I think that it would be good for the party if on Tuesday, when the results are in, she suspends her campaign and urge her supporters to rally around Obama. She will do the party good by announcing that the next day or two days from then, she will join Obama at a rally where she will announce a new general election campaign tour where they will both campaign on his behalf for the sake of party unity and focus on McCain’s defeat come November.

All you voices of sanity out there: it is useless to try to reason with the Republican spinners on this blog. They aren’t here to be truthful and honest: they are here to stir up controversy with their lies and innuendoes. They are part of a concerted effort to try to obscure the fact they have a lousy candidate by attacking the Democrats. If Obama weren’t the presumptive leader, they would be attacking Clinton just as furiously.
Don’t believe the folks who SWEAR they have been Democrats all their lives until this moment in time. They are using an old trick to try to convert uncommitted voters to their cause through treachery and trickery. Pathetic, but then the Republicans are….

DemocratsUnited,
It would be great if she did. She has so much work to do to undo the damage she has done to Barack the party and her own reputation, but given what that wolfson guy said today I wont hold my breath.
It looks like she is thinking how she did with gore and kerry.. After 8 years of this you’d think she’d set abition aside and act in the interest of the nation… But I dont think you can count on that !

Obama has a Horrid adult past which will even be uncovered more if Heaven Forbid he becomes the nominee. It Shows alot of his Anti-American attitude. He has no good political record to stand on & his story of growing up so disavantaged on potroast & potatoes makes me sick. What a jerk! He grew up mostly in Hawaii with a Colleged Educated Mother & Grandparents for support. He also went to private schools. He’s also 1/2 white but by the way he talks you’d think he had black american slave roots instead of the african Kenyan roots of his muslim father. MCCain is way better to be President than Obama. No Obama in the WhiteHouse. Hillary would be the Best For President. But McCain will win if Obama is the nominee.

Obama is very good at manipulating the press coverage for his own benefit. The press is really going to have a field day when Clinton announces that she is running against Obama as an Independent.
Posted by: Joyce | May 18, 2008, 8:51 pm 8:51 pm
Hillary4Pres and Joyce et all the hate mongerers:
Get use to the fact that Barack Hussein Obama is going to be the next president, whether you and your racist friends like it or not. And you can complain all you want, you can start all the fake rumors you want, you can try to smear the guy all you want, you can lie about your original affliation, you can hide behind Hillary Clinton, you can do all that stuff, but we know who you really are: you are nasty folks who display bigotry, who spread hatred, and who are, by your very words, showing yourself to be anti-American. Take your noise to some other country where small minded and vicious people live.

Posted by: Another Aussie | May 18, 2008, 9:06 pm 9:06 pm
Republicans are troglodytes. All they know is is that if someone isn’t just like them, doesn’t think just like them, then they are to be hated as someone who threatens their sense of entitlement. I can imagine how they must be quaking in their expensive shoes at the very thought of a black man becoming president–after all these years I’m sure they thought they had put blacks (and other minorities) in their places.
They must surely be afraid now of reprisal for their actions. Maybe some of them should begin packing to find some climate that is more conducive to their beliefs.

Obama will never live Trinity Church, and He will never brake His ties with Wright, Frranakhan, and others, He is one of them, He belongs there. Trinity Church got a new Pastor, and I hear His sormons, and He is not much different then Wright, maybe more in the middle.
Obama said, that He will never live this Church, so is the same all , same all. He will never separate Him self from Wright, You are a dreamer. I can tell, You believe every word Obama is telling YOU

Posted by: EsmeraldaB | May 19, 2008, 12:37 am 12:37 am
When has Obama ever been questioned about Rezco or Bill Aires? The only questioning Obama got was when Wright was exposed but no one has got an answer from Obama about how he sat in the congregation for 20 years and never heard a peep. The MSM is so in Obama’s corner that they can’t even make a blog like this sound intelligent.
Posted by: toby hill | May 19, 2008, 12:01 pm 12:01 pm
This is a purely political move and a smart one. Whenever you want scrutiny of your opponent, you bring it up and say the press isn’t doing enough. Hillary did it, McCain’s done it during the primary and now Obama’s doing it. Expect more as, let’s face it, the press is rarely even-handed when it comes to coverage and will go for the ratings knock-out every time.
Posted by: JD | May 19, 2008, 1:42 pm 1:42 pm
Obama has NOTHING to say!!
He is reduced to reacting to appeasement comments by Bush, campaign ads featuring his wife and the most pathetic complaint of all, that McCain’s not getting enough scrutiny.
Obama needs more press on McCain, so the reporters don’t get restless and continue to notice that he isn’t just off-message, he has NO MESSAGE.
Posted by: sherr | May 19, 2008, 4:36 pm 4:36 pm

Or does that just apply to Michelle Obama?
Another Obama supporter with a double standard.
Posted by: sherr | May 19, 2008, 6:03 pm 6:03 pm
I guess Obama is attempting to make sure that the press doesn’t hand over his pillow or throw him the first question in nearly every debate.
Snicker…

pt: You just make up those numbers don’t you?
Well, your number is WRONG. I suggest that you do actual research BEFORE you start posting nonsense.
Republicans aren’t QUITE as stupid as you believe. In fact, we actually KNOW how to do research.
Posted by: saxifrage | May 20, 2008, 6:15 am 6:15 am
The problem is this crap about McCain being a war hero, and the media is afraid to put a glove on him. McCain did nothing heroic. He suffered along with many, many other Vietnam Vets who will never call themselves heroes. Get that stupid idea out of the discussion, and there’s absolutely no reason for McCain to be in politics.
Posted by: Michael Davidson | May 20, 2008, 8:01 pm 8:01 pm
What about McCain’s wife’s tax returns. She has refused to release them. The media hasn’t touched on this fact, but rode many a Democratic canidates about their refusal to release any spousal tax returns, to the point were the canidates have said uncle. Do you think the media will ever ride McCain about his wife’s tax returns? And lets talk about Flip-Floppers. From the 2004 election that was all the Republicans could talk about, now it is 2008, and they now have the biggest flip-flopper of them all as their canidate. The only thing the Republicans care about is money and power. Once you get that through your skull, you’ll understand how you have been screwed most of your life.
