Obama Says General Election Starts After Tuesday’s Results

ABC News’ Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama has high hopes for the results of the last primary contests on Tuesday: He believes that will likely mark the start of the general election.

Asked aboard his plane returning to Chicago from Colorado if the general election will begin after Tuesday’s voting in South Dakota and Montana, Obama answered in one word: "Yes."

Obama said he believes at that point he will be the nominee. But with three primary contests left — Puerto Rico on Sunday and Montana and South Dakota on Tuesday — Obama is still couching his prognosis ever so slightly.

"You know, it’s technically not over until we have the number of delegates needed to secure the nomination," Obama said of the 2026 delegates needed. "Once we have that number, we will focus on the general election."

The Obama campaign has no doubt been running a general election campaign for the last few weeks: campaigning in general election states and singling out the presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain more than his Democratic rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton -– a strategy that caused some to question the patience of a candidate that is still involved in a battle for the democratic nomination.

"We are only a few days away," Obama told reporters. "We have waited this long. We can wait a while longer."

Let’s face it, half the country supports Obama and half support Hillary. I will vote for whoever because I hate the republican policies.

Mr. Obama still needs to learn to zip up his pants after he goes potty. He wants to start the general election before the primary is over. With this kind of thoughtless risk taking he shows he is not ready for the Presidency.

I’m not sure if Hillary is still a democrat.

Hillary, the popular vote doesn’t count. This is just more Hillary math again. And sorry but West Va and Kentucky will vote for McCain in the GE plus they are racists and that is why you won by such a large margin.
You thought this nomination was owed to you from the beginning, what arrogance. Sorry it’s not working out the way you wanted.

Dusty,
Take a look at the politics tab on ABC News. Apparently over 17 million Democrats disagree with you but YOU must be right. Fact is, the word is out that the DNC will be counting half of Florida and Michigan’s delegates, which means that the popular vote now counts, and Hillary has had more people pull the lever for her than any other candidate in the history of the United States nominating elections. It’s time for the remaining superdelegates to move forward in favor of Hillary Clinton.

Only Hillary Clinton stood up for all the voters!

The Soros-McClellan Connection (LGF)
Wed, May 28, 2008 at 7:28:40 pm PST
The hat tip for this post goes to LGF reader John Williams in Texas.
The company that published Scott McClellan’s new Bush-bashing book is Public Affairs Books, and their Editor at Large is a guy named Peter Osnos: About The Century Foundation.
The owner of Public Affairs Books is a company called Perseus Book Group. Here’s their ownership tree: Perseus Books Home.
The firm is owned by Perseus Funds Group, (holding company Perseus LLC) a capital management firm that grew from about $20 million in 1995 to over $2 billion now. Big infusions of cash seemed to help it grow exponentially and it closed funds almost as fast as it opened them. The board has tons of liberals from the Clinton and Carter Administrations with credentials that almost put Osnos’ to shame as far as far left causes go. Their website is here: PERSEUS – merchant bank and private equity fund management.
If you go to the New York Department of State web site and enter “Perseus” in the “Business Organization” search, you get this on page 2 of the results

Arlen Spector is threatening to sue the DNC for violating a persons most fundamental right. The right to have their one voice and vote heard.
Oh Yeah! He’s going to bankrupt the DNC. Couldn’t happen to a better bunch of party insiders. Throw the bums out! Take back our party…….

Posted by: dilbert | May 28, 2008, 11:26 pm 11:26 pm

Barack mis-spoke……as usual. Delegates needed will be at a minimum 2210. More if FL and MI are fully reinstated. What a con man.

The democratic party is a vry fragile.
It splits very easy. It’s a group of
different people with different
backgrounds.
It’s very hard to unite the party
this year.
Hillary’s supporters WILL NOT vote
for Obama.
It’s very easy for a democrat to vote
republican than the other way around.
So republicans will win AGAIN this
november regerdless how unpopular is
the president.

Posted by: Nicholas | May 28, 2008, 11:34 pm 11:34 pm

Hillary is the only candidate who can beat McCain in November.
Virtually every poll (Gallup Daily Tracking, Quinnipiac, Rasmussen) has her beating McCain in the key swing states: Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida. Obama, on the other hand, trails McCain.
By the end of the primary process, Hillary will have won more of the popular vote than any Democratic candidate in history, and she’s significantly a head of both McCain and Obama in electoral votes. In fact, in key swing states like Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, West Virginia and Arkansas, she beats McCain handily in electoral votes. Obama does not. He trails McCain by 25 points in those states. If Obama is the nominee, he’ll lose in the G.E.
Hillary’s base of support includes Latino’s Older Americans, rural voters, and women, but it isn’t relegated just to these groups. Over 17 Million people have voted for Hillary in the primaries- young and old, highly educated and less educated, urban and rural, male and female. Her supporters will never give up, and they’ll never vote for Obama.

Posted by: Emily | May 28, 2008, 11:35 pm 11:35 pm

As goes Pennsylvania and Ohio so goes the nation. Why will the DNC put in the weaker candidate who cannot win in November?
Obama already put Paul Tewes in from Hildebrand and Tewes to orchestrated his win in the Iowa caucus. This was sheer strategy from day one to give Obama the nomination affirmative action candidate. Tewes is said to have taken over the day to day operations from Dean and that his days are numbered. This is Obama coup de tat. The Party taken from the people. Don’t give one dime ever to the DNC or any Democrats who constituents voted overwhelmingly for Hillary and Obama got the pledge, i.e. Byrd in WV, etc.
Never never Hussein, if not Hillary, then vote McCain.
There will be no party loyalty only loyalty to candidates.

FYI zz:
A recent Rasmussen General Election Match-Up poll for KENTUCKY shows:
Hillary +9 over McCain
McCain +25 over Obama.
So much for your theory that all “racist” states will vote McCain.

Posted by: SandyB | May 28, 2008, 11:39 pm 11:39 pm

Dilbert, I agree, it is very disturbing that Soros is backing Obama and not Hillary. Is there anything that can be done to find out more about why Soros is so behind Obama? What does Obama owe Soros and since Obama is so inexperienced who knows how big an influence Soros will have on Obama should he become President. Very Very disturbing. Just hope Hillary can beat the odds and win the nomination for the sake of the Nation.

Posted by: Sam | May 28, 2008, 11:40 pm 11:40 pm

Nicholas I am a Hillary supporter and I hope she wins the nomination. But if Obama should win I will vote for him. The republicans make me ill with this war. They deceived us. And McCain agrees with Bush on this. I just can’t vote for another Bush. Voting for McCain means more war.

Posted by: elle | May 28, 2008, 11:40 pm 11:40 pm

This is a tactic to depress voter turnout in upcoming primaries.
I hope that he will lose all three contests. Then we will what happens.

Posted by: Joan | May 28, 2008, 11:40 pm 11:40 pm

So now it is up to Barack Obama when the General Election “officially” begins.
Will this man’t ego never sleep???

Posted by: SandyB | May 28, 2008, 11:45 pm 11:45 pm

zz, there you go again, playing the race card. We, like Hillary and Bill, have spent our entire lives working for equality of the races. Stop taking those backward steps! In spite of your claim, the popular vote is the biggest determinant in the General Election. It determines the electoral votes of each state. Hillary has won the big states that can be expected to vote Democrat. Obama has won so-called “red” states, largely by caucuses which do not clearly reflect the will of the voters.
Does the DNC really want to lose this election?

Posted by: georgia | May 28, 2008, 11:46 pm 11:46 pm

Hillary is behind by 162 & almost half million popular votes.
There are very few Pledged delegates (around 70) left in the remaining three primaries.
None of the candidates is so weak to lose half million votes as a result of primaries in PR, MO & SD.
FL & MI votes, PD’s and the supers will not be handed over to one candidate.
It will probably divided equally.

Posted by: Perf Lead | May 28, 2008, 11:54 pm 11:54 pm

georgia, I’m not playing the race card. If you don’t think those states are racist then you’re living in a dream world. And the popular vote doesn’t matter, it’s the delegates. I guess you’re doing Hillary math.

I have been voting for 30 years and have never voted republican in a presidential election. Friends and family consider me extremely liberal. However, I love my country dearly and for the FIRST TIME in my life I am EXTREMELY WORRIED and CONCERNED. Most people in this election have turned it into a “first black or first woman issue” instead of asking the hard questions about who we really need to lead this country at such a troubled time. Unfortunately, I don’t think the ture “right person” is involved in this election. However, when I look at the voting records of all parties involved, Obama scares me to death! I have heard the Republicans saying for the past year, “this is the democrat’s election to lose” and said yea, right, they wish! However, I now have a tendency to believe them. I thought the Democratic Party would be smarter than this. I have not heard anything solid and substantial come from Obama, and his record does not even come close to his words – lot of adage for the old saying “actions speaks louder than words”. For all democrats out there, you had better believe the Repulicans will be hitting these discrepancies hot and heavy come fall. They will also be pointing out that Obama was raised Muslim and there is a real concern here that should be raised. The lack of value of human life and no respect for individual rights in the Muslim religion are very obvious to every true American. I know that even though I have never voted Republican in a Presidential election and thought I would never even consider voting republican, because of my love for this country and the “knowns and unknowns” of Obama, I cannot vote for him in the presidential election. This has nothing to do with “black or woman” but the security of this country and the welfare of my children. Our country is in such a fragile state currently, we cannot afford a risk such as Obama! Where there is smoke there is usually fire and we absolutely cannot afford a fire. I would encourage everyone to read the article “a Black Columist on O’Bama” by Ken Blackwell – Columnist for the New York Sun and really think this through and evaluate “What can I do for my Country”!

Posted by: elw | May 28, 2008, 11:56 pm 11:56 pm

I can see the point of counting Florida votes but how can anyone possibly say let’s count Hillary’s “win” in Michigan when Obama wasn’t even on the ballot? How is that a win when your opponent isn’t even in the contest? Come on people it’s common sense.

Posted by: intexas | May 28, 2008, 11:58 pm 11:58 pm

I hate the republican policies too. Terrorism is down 40% and no attacks on US soil since 9/11. I blame it on Bush. It’s a disgrace.

So answer this: how many of the pro-Hillary commentors on this string were asked to do so by the campaign, or were fed their information by the campaign?
Folks, I donated the max to Hillary and voted for her in my state’s primary. But for those of you who are still pushing her, even when the only way she can win is if superdelegates vote contrary to the pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses, I have two words: RALPH NADER.
Hillary can go back to the Senate and be the Ted Kennedy of her generation, or she can keep up this fight and become the Nader of 08.

Chances are that the DNC will seat at least 50% of the Florida and Michigan delegates. Still, this process has been rigged from the beginning by the latte-left in concert with the DNC. They engineered the process to advantage Obama.
For the first time in my adult life, I’m not proud of being a Democrat.

Posted by: Emily | May 29, 2008, 12:04 am 12:04 am

Also, if you are a so called Democrat or don’t agree with the Bush/McCain policies and don’t vote for the Democratic nominee, no matter who they are, you are just a little whiny crybaby that doesn’t want to play cause their person didn’t win. You’re gonna take your toys and go home. Might as well have some five year olds voting. You weren’t a true Democrat anyway and obviously aren’t sick of the GOP policies so you might as well vote Republican. Since McCain is such a better choice with all of his policies than the “other” Democrat that beat your candidate out for the nomination.

If Hillary can manage to trainwreck her own campaign so badly, squandering huge leads in the polls and also run her campaign into such huge debt, how on earth do you expect her to run America? Obama’s campaign has been very efficient and effective, and this is why he would be a better president.

Siting polls and threatening to vote for McCain is counterproductive. Lol…Who are u hurting? Not me, not his supporters or Mr. Obama. Your hurting yourselves. How is voting McCain in office for bush’s third-term going to help you, your family and your lively-hood? Hillary supporters self loathing attitudes towards this entire primary process has been absolutely toxic. Do us mathematicans a favor and tell Hillary throw in the towel on June 4 and embrace Obama; and maybe, just maybe we will allow Hillary to be Obama’s running-mate.

Why a vote for Obama may lead to more war and deaths, not less. The facts on the ground now in Iraq is that the surge has been successful and the US is winning the war in Iraq. That is why Obama’s plan of pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory in Iraq is so idiotic. Al Qaeda is on the run in Iraq but if the USA retreats and turns Iraq over to them, Al Qaeda will have access to Iraq’s large oil reserves and thus the means and opportunity to attack us and attack us hard. Our Middle Eastern allies will have no reason to trust our word and abandon us. Not to mention the boost a withdrawal from Iraq will give to Iran, Syria and Hamas. Think WWIII, If Obama is elected his defeatist policies will put us all at more risk of another 9/11 attack and even worse the blow up the middle east which will mean more will die, just like what happened in WWII when people thought Hitler could be appeased and were wrong, very wrong. Whats more, the killing fields of cambodia could be played out again in Iraq by Al Qaeda, Only this time the people murdered could be the very people that risked their lives to support the US. Question, if Obama wins, can you sleep well at night if you get what you want and this happens? I hope not.
P.S. If Obama had got his way and Saddam was still in power the West would be dealing with TWO major middle eastern powers on the brink or already in possession of nuclear weapons thumbing their nose at the US.

Posted by: Mary | May 29, 2008, 12:09 am 12:09 am

Lisa, I guess you’d rather us look weak (or as Osama would say “a paper tiger”) in the eyes of the world and not do anything against Iraq although they violated all the conditions after we won the Gulf War. Maybe you’d like the terrorists around the world to know we don’t back up what we threaten. That basically they can do anything they want and we’ll just sit back and let them. Maybe you like that.
Me? Not so much.

The only thing this election has convinced me of is how stupid Americans are. The Clintons have repeatedly lied, cheated, race-baited, tried to change rules, even brought up assination and there are people who are “supporting” them in their quest to steal an election. The popular vote does not count. It’s a delegate election. Everyone agreed to that. Florida and Michigan do not count. Hillary agreed they wouldn’t … until she lost now she wants to change rules. I just can’t believe there are people out there stupid enough to buy the Clinton bull. Let’s not even talk about the shady deals in Kazahstan and white water stuff Barack has been too dignified to bring up and that the Repubs would trounce on, Hillary is hated by 50 percent of the country she would not win a general election.

Posted by: tj | May 29, 2008, 12:16 am 12:16 am

First of all Hillary isn’t leading in the popular vote. If the caucus states were tallied on a county by county, person by person vote, Hillary would be overwhelmed in the popular vote department. Also, here is an analogy for all you folks who still don’t understand the Clinton hustle!
Lets say that the Boston Celtics have just won the 5th game of the NBA Eastern Conference Final; which they did. And, lets say that the rules say who ever scores the most points wins the game, and the rules state just such a thing. Then lets suppose the losing team, Detroit, petitioned the NBA to disqualify the Celtics victory, because they hit more “3 pointers” than the Celtics, we would all say get the f_ _ K out of here! So goes the Clinton popular vote analogy. This is a contest, this presidential primary, you can’t change the agreed upon rules, to suit you, that would not be a competition, it would be a “set – up.”
Second, all the candidates agreed to the rules of the primary, before the primaries were held. The Clinton campaign didn’t stand up for the voters of Michigan and Florida, when they signed on to the agreed upon rules. She agreed with the DNC.
Thirdly, America is more than a few northeastern states, and there are working class whites all over America who have voted for Obama, and will continue to support an agenda of “Change”, and reject more of the same.
Fourthly, and finally, America is ready, and in desperate need of rejuvenation, reformation, and a very concentrated dose of Inspiration.
YES WE CAN!!!

Posted by: Michael KHeop | May 29, 2008, 12:17 am 12:17 am

Senator Clinton has lost the primaries. Clinton supporters can post whatever they want. It’s a done deal, and the best candidate has won.
Further, Senator Clinton has demonstrated her poor judgment several times during this campaign, Senator Obama has shown how well he holds up under fire. It was rewarding to me to have such a long primary season, because it allowed me to see how both behave under trying circumstances. Hillary lost.

Here we are at the playoffs for the SuperBowl. Barack has a one point lead and has the ball within 10 yards of another touchdown. With only 30 seconds left he will probably just eat up the clock in the next couple plays. But wait Hillary is arguing with an official that even if Barack has more points, her team has gained the most yards and should be declared the winner. Besides, her offense would have had another 50 yards early in the game if the officials hadn’t,thrown their flags for too many on the field. Michigan and Florida thought they could sneak in without a flag being thrown. Hillary is arguing that every yard should count. Now she is arguing her team did better in the big critical area in the middle of the field. Now Bill is rushing on the field arguing with another official saying sportswriters say Hillaries team has a better chance of winning in the SuperBowl against McCain’s team. If the officials let Barack win and advance to the SuperBowl, McCain’s team will tear his team apart. Official are now in a huddle on the sidelines trying to decide how to determine the winner. Will it be points, who gains the most yards, who does well in the large middle section of the field, or base it on what sportswriters are saying would be the best match up in the Super Bowl. We will have to wait to hear what they decide. Once they decide, we will finish that last 30 seconds of the game. But even then, the decision of the official may be contested if it is not based on the most yards or what sportswriters think.

The DNC an created undemocratic voting environment gerrymandering the votes so that some would be worth more than others, and rigging the caucuses so that working folks, and shift workers could not caucus. 100,000 votes brought less delegates than 10,000. These are undemocratic conditions which disenfranchise many millions of voters. It is in the caucus states that Obama won most of his delegates, and these are skewed. If he was an honorable man, and a true representative of the people he would have fought against this unfair practice and thereby gained much respect. But he has always leveraged the “rules” to his advantage when convenient as he did with longtime activist and Illinois Senator Alice Palmer.
It was when the voting rules were changed in such to such an undemocratic method without the democratic party rank and file’s vote/say that I saw that the democratic party was no longer democratic. For true democrats the popular vote counts, and so for me Clinton is the legitimate nominee.
I have faith in Clinton, but none in the party any longer. Should Clinton not get the nomination then I will vote for a pragnatic solution which won’t cause this country as much grief as an ill-informed, inexperienced president combined with a democratic congress, “superpowers” given to the presidency by Bush, and a supreme court which the democratic branches of the executive and legislative can also change such that it too becomes far left. A one party system has proven to be dangerous in Germany, USSR, and other nations. I will vote McCain and hope this country comes to its senses. A republican president with a democratic congress will provide and checked and balanced government.

Obama chose to take his name off the ballot because he was losing by 20% it was a strategic move but proved to be bad judgment
http://iowaindependent.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=1264
I have read that according to exit polls and you can research this everyone in MI knew uncommitted was Obama and/or Edward. Still, according to exit polls Obama lost to Clinton by approx, 20%. This is why he ojbected to a privately=paid for recount in MI.
I don’t feel as bad now though I know Obama will lose in November no matter what.

We will not support HER. This tell us you hate them both. You’re a lying replublican cause no democrat wants bush/mccsame over obama; Obama and Hillary agree on almost EVERYTHING

Some of the people posting seem think the same as Mr Bushes supporters. I realize that it is not easy for many to face the fact that they are being lied to (Bush WMDs) and (Hillary’s I actully care about FL and MI.) President bush led us into an unjust and costly war, that has killed many, and left us into the highst debt that America have every had. However, there are those who still think that he is right and he did what is best for the country.Mrs. Clinton has been telling FL. and MI that she is the only person that cares that their votes are counted, and that she is better able to run this country. However she has not been able to run her run for the white house. Also she and her supporters are making it appear that Mr.Obama does not care. However, that is not the case, he has only did what the DNC requested and not try to over rule them. Just remember just like the WMDs, the I really care is only to get you to do her dirty work. I leave it to you.

Yep, I would vote for the Hillerator if she won, but she lost so long ago, the main benefit of her continuing has been to make plain to us all, including many of her millions of supporters and former supporters just how outlandishly self-centered and power mad the Clintons are, not caring who they damage, what lies they tell, what pledges they made (re Florida & Michigan) that they ignore.
All but her most rabid supporters aren’t going to forget the Hillary Clinton show – she’s done the most damage to herself, once the dust settles.
And with all that, of course I’d vote for her if she somehow happened into the nomination from here. This election is way too important….
As Mark says – time to be adults folks…Hillary or Obama in 08

Well put, Emily…..
I certainly agree with you about not being proud of the Democratic party at this point in time.
As a lifelong Democrat, the thought that I might not be voting for the Party’s nominee this November is very disturbing. Even during the Reagan years, when so many Democrats were obviously voting Republican, I never wavered in my party loyalty.
All of those other years when the Democratic candidate (however unelectable they were) was trounced in the general election, the candidate was ALWAYS clearly the Party’s choice, and if they lost in November, so be it, but at least a very clear majority of the Party was behind that candidate.
That is why I just can’t understand this year, when there is such an excellent candidate running slightly behind in delegates to the front-runner, and more than likely ahead in the popular vote, why they would find it so DIFFICULT to just choose the most electable one.
I can’t remember a Democratic primary year that was ever this close so near to the finish line as this one is. No true Democrat should have a problem whatsoever accepting a strategic decision made by the Party to go with the most qualified and electable candidate when, statistically speaking, this primary race is a toss-up.
I don’t know why the Party cannot stand up to its members and just say: Look, this is what we’re doing, and we’re doing it for your own good, and as what we have decided is our best shot at putting a Democrat back the White House.

What will happen is most Democrats with intellect and many independents will gravitate towards the Democractic candidate, in this case Obama, because they want change. What will be left by fall is a small cult like following of die-hard Hillary supporters that are left posting WE-WILL-NEVER-VOTE-FOR-OBAMA-SO-THERE! messages in random message boards thinking people still care.

I support Senator Obama for president. This has been the most grueling nomination process in my memory and he has consistently behaved with dignity, grace, class and integrity. I cannot say the same for his opponent.
As for his running mate, Senator Clinton disqualified herself for that position when she proclaimed McCain to be better qualified than her Democratic opponent. She put another nail in her coffin with her RFK assassination remarks. He cannot choose her now. He would appear weak and bullied.

History will remember, that people of all economic classes got involved in the political process like never before. History will remember what Americans of all colors and ethnicities did, we believed in more than a persons resume, we identified with what is best in us, therefore we voted for Obama.
History will remember, that America was founded not by Kings and Queens, but by men and women who believed in a better world, and believed that they could resist the status quo of the day, and said to the world, “Yes We Can” , change the world.
And just think, some Americans, are now trying to convince us, that America was founded by men and women with experience in governing a nation, and not by men and women with the heart of lions, and the minds of owls.
YES WE CAN!!!

@SandyB: Exactly!
Sexism and political maneuvering played a big role in this debacle.
A lot of pols (DNC members, supers, et al) swing their support for political expediency, to bolster their own campaigns, or to win favors. Furthermore, more often than not, legislators throw their support behind one candidate to block the rise of another. Believe it-it’s true. They play power games by supporting the candidate they think can help them, or whom they think they can effectively manipulate. It’s not about who they think is the smartest or the best for our country per se, it’s about who they think is best suited for THEIR purposes.

Posted by: Emily | May 29, 2008, 12:32 am 12:32 am

Hillary Clinton is the spoiled little rich girl….”If I can’t have it, then you can’t have it either”. She is staying in the race as a way to help McCain win in November. Hillary knows that if Obama is elected she won’t be able to make another run for the White House in 4 years. And I know you hillary supporters don’t like facts, but the polls on realclearpolitics are actually averages of several polls so it’s not one poll it’s more like 10 or so. Idiot.

No, No, No, just get that sweetie out of the race. My favorite one was his solemn story about his father’s American flag covered casket – only trouble is his father was a Kenyan citizen and could never have had an American flag on his casket. I don’t think ANY Super D at this point in time wants to be the one that puts Obama over the top.
And the way the MSM is reporting them when they announce, blow by blow, the whole world will know exactly who the “over the top” Super D is.
And given that there is still a huge “unknown” aspect to Obama, and that another one of his unvetted confidantes or federally indicted neighbors might appear at any time, or that he might make a few more even bigger, historical or insulting gaffes, I don’t think any Super D wants to be known as the one who gave him the necessary number of delegates for the nomination right now.
Yup, I think this will go to the floor of the Convention. And even then, don’t be surprised if they decide to have a vote to do all of the nominating by secret ballot this time.

history will remember – You are incorrect about DNC rules and caucuses. To start with, the rules were set in early 2007. Who had the most influence in those rules – Clinton or Obama? So if the rules were unfair, it must be what Clinton wanted or she failed to get the problem resolved. So why are you blaming Obama? Second, the caucuses were won by Obama, not because they were unfair, but because Clinton took Iowa for granted and did not even campaign in most of the other caucus states. What happens when a candidate shows very little interest in a state? They lose, just like Obama did in some of the later states. So if the rules are unfair or Obama did better in the caucus states, then Clinton should not be blaming others. Bill and Hillary had the most power in the party and decided to skip a bunch of caucus states to concentrate on states they thought were more critical. They had the most experience at running for president.
They have no one to blame except themselves for poor judgment in how to run their campaign.

Ask the troops what they think and they think they’re doing the right thing. So you lose on that point too.
Also, I suppose you’re saying that since Iraq violated every agreement that we had with them on condition of surrender in the first Gulf War, that we shouldn’t keep good on our word and fight them?

I think it is very sad how people believe everything and anything Hillary says about the election, while at the same time forgetting what she has said in the past.
Remember, she agreed to play by these rules. She does NOT have the lead in votes. She only says that because she doesn’t count the voters that did not vote her way. Count all the votes Hillary!!! Don’t ignore the caucases. Those people voted too.
I think its also funny how a lot of people on here think that Obama is being selfish. Hillary once said that the super delagates will choose this race, not the voters. And now she has back tracked and changed her tune because now she desperately needs the Florida and Michigan states that she agreed to not count. Who wants to be president very badly? The one who tells you to vote for McCain in the GE.
If you vote for McCain, then you are against repairing the troubles that the Bush administration has created.
Hillary lost the popular vote, delegates, and super delegates, not due to sexism, but due to her lack of competence. If she is so ready to lead our country, she wouldn’t be leading a campaign that is 22 millions dollars in debt. Thats the way she is going to run our country? Vote for our country, not for Obama, McCain, or Clinton. Its not about “firsts” Its about our country people!! Wake up and stop eating up the Hillary spin. She’s really good at it. she’s had a lot of practice at deception. Remember the 90s?
If Hillary really cares about this country, she would graciously concede. She only cares about herself. The fact that she is still married to Bill and still uses his name in the guise of “solidarity and strength” speaks volumes about her intentions. She only cares about being first woman president, and nothing else.

We, the Clinton supporters will not vote for Obama because he is not good enough to be President, he is a weak person who has no distinct ideas of his own.
He has copied everything and every policy that Clinton put forward. The whole game plan in the Obama campaign was to mirror her policies so they could argue their is not much difference between the two of them.
However, the big distinction between the two of them is that Clinton is far superior in her knowledge of how Washington works, she is more experienced in foreign affairs, she is not afraid to have interviews with her open enemies.
Whereas Obama sends out his camp to defend him because he makes to many mistakes and looks and sounds unprepared in a Q&A situation.
Obama is indeed an empty suit and will never win the nomination.
Clinton will be the next president because she is simply the best, better than anyone,……….

Posted by: Jo | May 29, 2008, 1:00 am 1:00 am

Many Hillary supporters are reluctant to vote for Obama if he becomes the nominee (which I think he won’t be). It’s not because they are bitter. It’s because they (I) chose hillary over Obama for many reasons: Lack of Experience, unsavory associates, arrogant, egomanic, weak, liar and a phony.
If he does become the great big king, I don’t care if Hillary tell her supporters to vote for Obama..It ain’t happening..
If He wants to be the leader of this great country, that requires Hillary supporters whether you like it or not. Let’s see what kind of a uniter he is.

I dont think exit poll is worth much, when you have the final results already in front. Clinton can poll all the people she wanted, and ignore all that are against her, including the ones that know her personally & work with her face to face. These people are ditching her for Obama. Why?

Posted by: Dave | May 29, 2008, 1:01 am 1:01 am

I remember Roland Hill and all the other Obama apologists kept saying we only took soundbites and 30 second clips of Rev. Wright and took him out of context.
Then Rev. Wright got up and made a speech at the Natl Press Club and disgraced himself AND Obama for about 30 minutes. Finally there was no excuse.
Loved it.

Ladies and Gentelmen:
Newsflash:
The Democratic Party is not the United States Government. It is a POLITICAL PARTY. They are bound to their own rules. The Constitution doesn’t talk about parties – it talks about Presidents. The PARTY establishes its own method of picking nominees. Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama AGREED that FL and MI would not count.
Looks like Mrs. Clinton is trying to press rewind and act like she’s standing up for FL and MI. Don’t be dense. She’s standing up for HERSELF. She signed the agreement, and didn’t fight for anyone until suddenly it was a convenient facade for her last ditch conniving effort to steal the nomination.
The Political Party will select its nominee by its rules – it is contractually bound to do so. They cannot break their own rules. Looks like Obama is going to give a little because he has nothing to lose – they can’t all be seated so she can’t catch up – it will make him look better to FL and MI voters.
We may not like the DNC’s rules, but VOTES IN PARTY PRIMARIES ARE IN NO WAY SUBJECT TO THE US CONSTITUTION.
Save these petty arguments for later… say if the Republican steals the national election from the victor (Gore v Bush 2000, anyone?).
It was over long ago…
Vote Obama or vote for:
- unending war
- ultra-conservative supreme court justices
- abolition of right to choose
- a bad economy gone worse
- insufficeint GI bill for our heroes
- mounting debts that will bankrupt our children
You have a choice, and you have to get past the frustrations and look at what is best for you and your children. The choice is clear.

Wow, the Clintonites in full force tonight with their usual crapola. It is so sad to see people parrot the same lies and fraudulant claims as thier candidate, HilLIARy. Guess they are drinking the same beer as Hilliary…what does it contain?? lie potions?? By the way, did you see the video of Hilliary downing beer in Puerto Rico?? She is so tawdry and low class!!! Ladies do NOT act that way; I would think a woman running for President would conduct herself in a proper manner. What a disgrace!! Maybe she downs a few shots everyday in the mornings to keep her going???
Anyway, Clintonites, Hilliary has lost the nomination; Senator Obama only needs 45 more delegates/superdelegates and he reaches the 2026 landmark. Hilliary needs 202 delegates.
Why does Hilliary think she won Florida and Michigan. Those were NONE contests due to their moving the primaries up, thereby defying the DNC and its rules. Hilliary’s advisors help set up those rules!! All the states and candidates AGREED with the DNC rules. Hilliary even said on TV nationwide those states did not matter anyway. Now she has gone lunatic demanding the delegates be seated and the votes counted. WHY??? It is NOT because she cares about these two states and their voters; it is ONLY because of the delegates and the votes!! Wisen up folks. I still say, how can she declare herself in states that held NO Presidential contests?? It is mindboggling!! Respect is earned, it is NOT demanded!! Likewise, votes are earned not demanded!! And that is what Hilliary is demanding. She says every vote counts; really?? how about the small primary states which she declared as not important and which did not matter??? How about the caucus states?? Yes, Hilliary ever vote counts except for the ones from states like Illinois, Washington State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Virginia, Colorado, and the rest of the 33 states Senator Obama won. What a hypocrite!!!

I am sick and tired of Obama declaring the game over before the time runs out! He is that kid on the playground who declares that he is the only one to make the rules and that he can change them at will. I personally do not want to see Obama as the nominee and I am very angry that he even has a chance with all of his lack of experience and judgement and now John Mccain is knocking Obama around like a lightweight over foreign policy and he is showing that he is absolutely suck when he flip flops and changes his positions with the change of public opinion. Is this the kind of president that we want? He is already being swiftboated and this is before he is the nominee. I am disgusted with the dnc and the democratic party and their loser mentality. I am officially changing my party affiliation if Obama is forced down our throats in June and will join the many other Hillary supporters who say that John Mccain is their guy. This is a sad day for democracy and the end of the democratic party as we know it.

Once this whole thing winds down next week, I think everyone will take a deep breath and really think about what matters to them… the choice will be to vote for some ineffective retalation that screws yourself over or to vote for what is best for yourselves and future generations.
Hillary supporters will agree on policy issues, so the best choice will be clear. I’m in no way worried about Obama losing – it plain won’t happen.
If Hillary somehow manages to steal it – the democratic party is ruined. The AA base and youth vote will sit at home feeling betrayed. Even if she wins, America will lose a generation of citizens who actually CARE about their country.

Posted by: Reason | May 29, 2008, 1:39 am 1:39 am

Do you think that is gonna happen.
Thats not HOPE that is HOPELESSNESS

Posted by: Omentum | May 29, 2008, 1:40 am 1:40 am

Basically, anyone who would switch from Hillary to McCain has no concept at all what programs and policies Hillary actually wants to make happen. We assume Hillary actually cares about what she’s talking about – that means she actually would NEVER want her supporters to vote for McCain, as this would defeat every value she has dedicated her life to. As everyone knows, policy-wise, there’s little difference between Obama and Clinton, and ocean of distance between the two of them and McCain.
We’ve had a friendly looking, joke-cracking complete idiot as a president, doing major damage for 8 years because people get into these little personality cults and let Republican flaks like Rush Limbaugh turn them around with his jokes & republican talking points. Well, Bushes policies in Iraq, deregulating Wall Street & banks to trash your house price and his ignorant energy policy that hasn’t developed alternatives are a rolling disaster in the process of cratering the country so badly, that I have to imagine that people will actually care what’s being done to them at some point. We have permitted the Greed-is-Good, phony flag-waving, corrupt (eg check out Iraq contracts) Republicans to take us to the cleaners big time – some people have been total suckers and actually voted for these pinheads again. But even the slowest most loyal pooch finally >gets it< and says enough, leaves its misguided master and hits the road hoping for better days. It's just a matter of whether you actually get what's being done to you or not, as far as I'm concerned…

Obama is such a poor choice for president seeing that he is forever lying and worming his way out of every negative situation that he has caused like the Wright controversy and his willingness to sit down with hostile foreign leaders. John Mccain is pulling his ticket as only the republicans can and showing Obama as having a yellow streak down his back that is so obvious now that he has stepped up to the big dogs. I am a democrat but I must say that the republicans play to win and will not stop attacking until their opponet breaths his last desperate breath! I support Hillary the only democratic candidate that can walk the walk and talk the talk and I say that Obama can give up now if he is our nominee because we true democrats are not kidding when we say that we will not support him for the general election. I am with Lou Dobbs in declaring my Indepence Day if Obama is the nominee and I will be front and center to watch the flames that will be leaping off of the democratic party when they spontaneously combust and another republican will again be in the white house and we are all doomed!

Barack OBAMA trounced Mrs Clinton in 33 contests and she has won 18 that is the simple math. Divinding the electorate a thousand different ways and announcing the segments she won is disingenous and is not how the elections nor the world works. The winner wins and the loser goes home unless of course we are talking about candidates who feel entitled and are looking through the magical reality bending kaleidoscope Hillary deploys and Howard Wolfson tries to pass along. Clinton fatigue no more like Cliinton repulsion.
Barack Obama will lead the Democrats to victory in November . Thank God that more Americans can read than those who cannot.
Hillary needs to go back to school and work on her math skills. When she does she needs to ride the “special bus” and I wish her all the best and would even get her a Scooby Doo lunch box with some chocolate milk in it for her enjoyment.
This woman and her inability to ever admit a mistake has done enough harm to our certain candidate Barack Obama and worse is hurting our chances to enjoy CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!
You cannot lie yourself to victory Hillary and lets not forget your failed strategy as it regards to caucus states and your having blown a quarter of a billion dollars. No misogyny is not the reason you lost; mismanagement of your entitlement campaign is.
Time for you to exit stage left quick fast and in a hurry.
P.S. Do not pass go and do not collect any more dollars from the poor to pay Mark Penn or repay yourself your loans.
You may have had a shot at the V.P. house that Bill has been busy this last two weeks trying to cram you into but after the assassination comments you proven you are not fit for the office. To recap do not go away mad just go away we have had enough of your bitter loser elongation of the race.

Obama hasn’t ruined the Democratic Party. His army of new followers have shown up to strengthen the party to a degree it hasn’t been in decades. Change happens whether or not we want it to – his campaign has embraced it. His new coaltion can merge with the existing one to create one of the strongest political coalitions in recent history if those resistent will give him a shot once he wraps up the nomination. Resisting change may not doom the party this year, but it will shortly thereafter. Time to embrace a new generation.

Wouldn’t you just love to see an upset with S. Dakota and Montana (both vote Red in the general, I believe)? We know she has Puerto Rico, but if she won the other two (even by 2 points) it would be very telling. I belive BO’s chance of winning those states increases by those voting for him who want McCain to run against him…easier to beat.

The DNC is too worried about the riots that would result from Obama not getting the nom (college kids/blacks/radicals), but what they don’t see coming is the huge Hillary backlash that will not dissolve by November when millions of us will quietly pull the lever for McCain in the privacy of our voting booth. I personally hope her supporters become more vocal and stage the same sort of public display that his camp would.
Off record…isn’t it great that Oprah’s ratings have slipped big time because of middle aged women, like me, who are pissed off she endorsed BO? I haven’t watched her in months.

Obama won a mostly caucusas in RED states that will not vote for him in the GE. He lost almost all the major primary states that would be needed in the GE. More levers were pulled for Hillary nationwide than for Obama, and that gap will likely widen over these last primarys.
The caucusas are a “vote by appointment” system which is discrimitory in nature because many are unable to vote in a “vote by appointment” way due to jobs, caretaking for children, etc. I wasn’t able to attend my “vote by appointment” caucus due to child caring.
If the process had been a winner take all system like the repubicans have, none of us would be having this converstaion now since Hillary would have it locked up.
SO IN THE END, IT COMES DOWN TO HILLARY OR MCCAIN, THE ONLY TWO CHOICES WE HAVE, AND MY VOTE WILL GO TO ONE OF THE TWO. I WANT MY VOTE TO COUNT.

No worries though we are counting on the educated still outnumbering the crackers in trailers in Appalachia to win this thing. We trounced Hillary in 33 contest to her 18. After watching this ridiculous nominating process with the democrats, I’m glad I’m a registered Republican who has always voted whoever I wanted in the general. That said, I voted Hillary on 2/5 and gave $$ to her campaign. If the dems don’t change their rules to winner take all, after this mess, ya all should join Rep. party. My lord, what a mess. Caucus states are a sham! Only 1% of Dems represented by college kids (usually). How is that representative of the numbers in a general that a nominee need to win? Why does BO think he’s the nom on Tues, when the magic number to reach will grow on Sat.? Did he buy more super d’s? Will they roll Gore out Tues. night?

Posted by: Debra | May 29, 2008, 2:06 am 2:06 am

j,
Contrary to Hillary’s claim — where only the states she wins matter — caucuses are incredibly important. They gauge the level of motivation among supporters. Caucuses count, big time. Hillary doesn’t even like to count them in the popular vote because it’s inconvenient to her pop vote argument (which the superdels aren’t buying… 4 more wednesday for obama).
Take Texas for example…. very very close primary and caucus. She barely eeked out a pop vote win, but he won the caucus and delegate fights. His supporters are more motivated, they’re going to do the work it takes to win in November. They fork over money, they show up, they knock on more doors. This enthusiasm will not only help elect a democrat as president – it will help elect democrats down the ballot. Then we’ll really have real change in this country – at long lost.

On the day for the democrats to vote there was no place set up within 400 miles for us to go and place our choice.
That is one of the reason I have left the Democratic Party and I WILL vote for McCain. I will not have any candidate forced on me and then go vote for him because someone somewhere decided he should win.

Bitter feminist, militant lesbians, racists, and the uneducated. Wow, that certainly is one heck of a winning coalition Hillary has put together. Big fact of life though, you don’t win elections with that kind of a coalition, and the actual numbers of the ones that ACTUALLY will vote for McCain are so small that the shear increase in the youth vote more than adequately cancels them out. So enjoy being redundant Clinton supporters, for America will never bow down to those who demand results by breaking the rules and thwarting the voter! You people, whether you wish to admit it or not, are worse than Bush and his cabal!

Primaries only represented half or less of registered dems… should we say that isn’t a fair representation. If you go back to college statistics, that 1% (which is acutally more like 5-25 depending on your state) is mathematically an accurate representation. If you look at the socioeconomic/geographic patterns in the states where Obama wins then you realize that it is a true reflection.

The thing I don’t understand about fanatical Obama supporters is their willingness – eagerness, even – to overlook Obama’s complete lack of experience or, really, taking a stand of any kind. It’s really hard to argue with “I want positive change” – who doesn’t? Democrats, Independents, Republicans… everyone wants positive change. There is nothing in his extremely limited experience as a Senator that should make anyone think he’s capable of bringing that change about, and the position statements on his website are either ridiculously flimsy, contradictory to his very short voting record, incredibly naieve, or some combination of all three. His views on foreign policy alone are complete theoretical, based on a very inexperienced worldview. He avoids taking a position on anything, because he knows all he has to do is talk about change and hope and not get too specific so that he can be anything that anyone listening to him wants to imagine.
It also bothers me that Obama appears to be incapable of original thought. How many news stories have we heard where snippets of speeches – even the title of his book/Democratic convention speech, “The Audacity of Hope” – not to mention core policy positions, have turned out to be lifted from other sources.
You know who the last President we elected was who had almost no practical experience and that we knew would have to rely on a strong staff to be effective? I think his name was George W. Bush. That worked out well for everyone, didn’t it?
I mean, my son likes to watch Bob the Builder, and he says “YES WE CAN!” a lot too (maybe Obama plagarized his slogan from a kids show… after all, so much of the electorate is dumb and bitter according to him, so why not treat them like children?), but that doesn’t qualify either of them to be President of the United States. Sloganizing and making motherhood and apple pie statements that sound great but are too vague to be held against you are great ways to run a campaign, but not such a great way to run the most powerful country in the world.

To bad this has nothing to do with the popular vote. By the way, what did you Hillary freak’s give Obama on the popular vote in Michigan, where all the people stayed home. Also, what did you give him for caucus states. Obama blew her away in the amount of states won. I would bet my life that if those old people were internet savvy, so they could find out what Hillary is about, they would dump her in a flash. j,
Open your eyes and ears. There are far too many questions and uncertainties about every politician, but he has made it clear that he has superior judgment. Clinton’s, however, is far less reliable. Iraq, Iran, failed healthcare attempts in the 90s, flip flops on NAFTA from the 90s to now, putting up with naughty bill, etc, etc…
Trust me, I understand. I understand that Hillary Clinton is the most selfish politician to ever step foot in the Democratic primary. She’s chasing after her own dreams, not any else’s future. She keeps Bill around to do her political dirty work, and she’s throwing tantrums left and right because Howard Dean hasn’t set a crown on her head.
I am the generation who has never seen a day without a Bush or Clinton as Pres or VP (going back to 1980). My first political memories are Monica Lewinsky. My generation rebels against Clinton because she is central to the corrupt regime that has sat on a throne in DC for 28 years, and we know that we can do better. Just over 1/2 of the democrats already agree, and I think just over 1/2 the country will agree come November. It’s time to turn the page on the Bush/Clinton madness.
So, thank you, but I do understand and I am wide awake – unlike Senator Clinton.

Just one policy reason to vote for McCain instead of Obama …
Not all democrats are pro-choice. For example, Blue Dog or Dixiecrats run on a pro-life pro-gun platform. Of the democrats who are pro-choice, the majority believe that abortion should be available when the health of the mother is at stake or the child might be born with birth defects. Few democrats believe that aboriton should always be available as a method of birth control. But very few democrats believe — as Obama does — that a doctor should be forced to put a newborn infant in a box in the closet unitl the child dies because the child somehow survived an abortion procedure.
Reagan democrats are known for moving to the right not the left — if you take a look at Obama’s voting record and his positions on things like gun control and the war on drugs — it gets a lot easier to stomach voting for McCain and a lot harder to stomach voting for Obama.

Reason, its good that you’ve been around to observe the political landscape since 1980. And its clear that you truly believe what you say.
I too have been observing this for a while, my first vote in a GE was 76′ with Jimmy Carter. I also remember seeing the riots of 68′ at the Dem convention, the rioting in the streets, all in the name of change, and stop the war.
I was their in those heady, idealistic youthful “we can CHANGE the world” days of the late 60′s and early 70′s. I remember the deaths and bombings done by Obama’s friend Bill Ayers all in the name of change.
For so many of us the questions we have are absolutly grounded in real genuine concern. As one commentor said earlier, Obama has been weighed in the balances and has come up lacking.
So we will support those who we know, who have proven themselves, who have a track record of experience.

Posted by: patwal | May 29, 2008, 2:58 am 2:58 am

All the math majors — could you post the popular vote totals and the pledged delegates total for just the states that votered after the Reverend Wright controversy broke? Remember all those early primary and Super Tuesday votes were cast based on different information than those in the most recent primaries.
Post Reverend Wright scandal — Obama won North Carolina by a good margin and Oregon by a good margin.
Post Reverend Wright scandal — Hillary won Ohio by a huge margin, Pennsylvania by a huge margin, West Virginia by a huge margin, Kentucky by a huge margin and Indiana by a few thousand votes. She is expected to win Puerto Rico by a large margin but to lose in the caucus states of SD and Montana.
Add to that the fact that there is a widespread consensus that the caucus system–where msot of Obama’s wins have come from–is faulty. Puerto Rico changed its caucus system to a primary system for this election because the DNC acknowledged that the caucus system could not effectively handle the turnout that is expected. This is evident when the popular vote is compared to the caucus results in states where both are conducted — for example Hillary won the popular vote in Texas but was awarded less delegates than Obama because of the post-primary caucuses (her older, working class, childcare providng supporters could not attend).

It’s pretty evident that many of these posts are coming from people within Hillary Clinton’s campaign. It’s another example of how low this liar will go.

I’m all the way for Obama. If Hillary had any drop of intergrity she wont be talking about FL and MI. She supported the party’s rules from the start and cannot seek to change the rules now that those rules disfavour her. What kind of president would she seek to be – maybe of some banana republic! I, like most other blacks are waiting patiently for June 3rd. We are not fools and it seems the Clintons are taking us for fools. We have supported the democratic party for decades and in this election, we have voted overwhelmingly for Obama. Make no mistakes about it, blacks wont sit back and watch the Clintons steal the people’s mandate. Enough said.

Hillery supporters the primary season is over. Obama already has enough unannounced Super Delegates stockpiled to end this thing. The reason Clinton is showing a small surge in the polls is that while she is being left alone, Obama is currently competing against a four headed monster in the Clintons, McSame, the RNC, and conservative comentary.

Senator Obama should be acting like a president and support whatever the people of Florida and Michigan want.
This should have been resolved months ago, but if Obama did that he would not have been in the lead.
Instead,Senator Obama has done everything possible to stop a resolution. He was even offered to have a new primary and rejected that.
Obama is not working with the resolution because he would not have the bragging rights about having the most delegates or popular vote. No other reason.
Florida will not forget how unfair Senator Obama has treated them in the gereral election.
Obama may win this battle but he just lost the war and the election if he doesn’t fight for the “people” of Florida and Michigan.
The option of having a new primary for these states is still on the table but watch how quick he’ll object to that idea.
Wake up American. Obama will lose if he doens’t work with Florida and Michigan and will lose if he does.
Clinton doesn’t need Obama, Obama needs Clinton.

Excellent post, Brent! I think, that if Obama is the nominee he will never win in the GE. There is so much division and hatred between Obama and Hillary supporters. If you look at the blogs, the Obama supporters are extremely verbal in their dislike of Hillary supporters and I have yet to hear Obama repremand them in any way. I’m a staunch Hillary supporter, and like many (17 million), if Obama is the nominee, I will vote McCain. Not because I think McCain is all that great, but because I disagree with Obama and will cast my vote to keep him out of office. Many millions of Hillary supporters will do the same thing. The DNC and Obama have ruined and divided the Democrats this year. There is no way it will be healed by November. What amazes me is the Obama supporters continue to say Hillary should quit, but what they don’t realize is that she is winning….she has a solid backing in her supporters and she controls Obama because without her supporters votes, he can’t and won’t win! Hillary is the BEST candidate, I know it, Obama supporters know it, and so does the DNC and StuperDelegates. So Obama supporters, keep ranting and raving and supporting this “empty suit” Obama……remember, there is power in numbers, and 17million Hillary supporters will control Obamas destiny….that is, making sure he stays out of the White House.

PLEASE STOP perpetuating the delusion that Hillary has the most “popular votes”!
Seriously, there ARE people in Michigan that are for Obama and if the party would stop disenfranchising THEM, her lead in the popular vote disappears.
Also, if they stop disenfranchising all the voters in caucus states….

Tom……I hope, after Saturday, if the DNC gives the nomination to Hillary, that she will file and run as an Independent…….it would be the right move. After all the media bias and hate she has been through, from the DNC to the “Stupid”Delegates, I would love to see her spoil Obama’s chances. 4 years of McCain would be more tolerable than 4 years of an “empty suit” that makes false promises. This is one Hillary supporter that will vote for Hillary as an Independent, or McCain. Anything to keep Obama out of the White House.

All of the “she can win” nonsense aside, there is really only one thing that matters; Obama has the numbers and he will be trhe nominee, end of story. everything else is just a pathetic game on the part of someone for whom manipulation of the weak minded holds no moral or ethical problem. Her argument that she should win in spite of losing in the ONLY area that matters (pledged delegates) is absurd and simply will not happen. Her senselessly vicious and divisive campaign has done nothing except to alienate even Democrate many of whom at this point would probably not vote for her even if she somehow manages to steal the nominations. Most of the public consider here dishonest, and with good reason.
Her campaign says that you can’t win the general election with just “african americans and eggheads”. Well, you can’t win with just “rednecks and angry soccer moms” either. That is the demographic that elected our last president and you can see how well that turned out. But now we are going to try something different, with a different kind of candidate and I think the nation is more than willing to embrace that.

Hillary Clinton the liar should be President simply because she is a woman?
First we had 4 years of Bush followed by 8 years of Clinton….then 8 years of Bush. Do we really want any more Bush or Clinton?
The Clinton’s are corrupt self serving politicians who traded public service for personal gain. The American People deserve better.
The whole economic mess was started when Bill Clinton signed NAFTA against strong public opinion….sending jobs south of the border.
NO MORE CLINTON and NO MORE BUSH!!!

Obama tells us when the election begins. Obama tells us what we can and cannot say.
Go read the conclusion of Jay Cost’s 3 part analysis of the primary vote.
Obama is toast in November. Just remember Obama only got 37% in the Iowa caucus. He lost by 63%.

I’m new to blogging and am suprised at the name calling, and overt hatred. Clinton supporters are so let down they have nothing to cling to except the deluded bull that Hillary has been feeding them for the last 4-5 weeks.
Hillary supporters should look at the rules, count the delegates and move on.
I supported Bill Clinton both terms, and will now support the most qualified candidate, who happens to be Sen. Obama.
PS He is not muslim….where would you get an idea like that…oh yeah, Hillary…and you wonder why she didn’t win?

Thank you, Kerry, for your wonderful post.
You are so right with everything you have listed here.
Amazing how it has been perfectly OK for Obama to change his mind, flip-flop, or re-state anything he has said about any of these issues you have listed.
God forbid, however, that Hillary has changed her mind about what should be done with the Florida and Michigan votes.

Hillary is WINNING the popular vote!
IF you give Obama ZERO votes in Michigan and don’t count most of the caucus states.
Also people that say if no Hillary then McCain it sounds like you don’t even care about voting on the issues. Clinton and Obama have practically the same platform. You’re willing to vote for someone with completely different policy ideas just because your candidate didn’t get the nomination. Sounds foolish to me. Obviously you don’t care at all about Iraq, universal health care, the economy, and ultra conservative Supreme Court justices being put in place.

KEEP MOVING THE GOALPOSTS HILLARY
It’s the pledged delegates that determine the winner in this election
No, I meant
It’s the Super delegates that chose our nominee
Well, you know I’ve ALWAYS said
It’s the popular vote that really matters
Oh, I meant to say it’s
It’s …uh…how about electability? Have I tried that one yet?
What, I’m still losing?

The truth is that Mr. Obama is the single most liberal senator in the entire U.S. Senate. He is more liberal than Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders, or Mrs. Clinton. Never in my life have I seen a presidential frontrunner whose rhetoric is so far removed from his record. Walter Mondale promised to raise our taxes, and he lost. George McGovern promised military weakness, and he lost. Michael Dukakis promised a liberal domestic agenda, and he lost.
Yet Mr. Obama is promising all those things, and he’s not behind in the polls. Why? Because the press has dealt with him as if he were in a beauty pageant. Mr. Obama talks about getting past party, getting past red and blue, to lead the United States of America. But let’s look at the more defined strokes of who he is underneath this superficial “beauty.”
Start with national security, since the president’s most important duties are as commander-in-chief. Over the summer, Mr. Obama talked about invading Pakistan, a nation armed with nuclear weapons; meeting without preconditions with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who vows to destroy Israel and create another Holocaust; and Kim Jong II, who is murdering and starving his people, but emphasized that the nuclear option was off the table against terrorists – something no president has ever taken off the table since we created nuclear weapons in the 1940s. Even Democrats who have worked in national security condemned all of those remarks. Mr. Obama is a foreign-policy novice who would put our national security at risk.
Next, consider economic policy. For all its faults, our health care system is the strongest in the world. And free trade agreements, created by Bill Clinton as well as President Bush, have made more goods more affordable so that even people of modest means can live a life that no one imagined a generation ago. Yet Mr. Obama promises to raise taxes on “the rich.” How to fix Social Security? Raise taxes. How to fix Medicare? Raise taxes. Prescription drugs? Raise taxes. Free college? Raise taxes. Socialize medicine? Raise taxes. His solution to everything is to have government take it over. Big Brother on steroids, funded by your paycheck.
Finally, look at the social issues. Mr. Obama had the audacity to open a stadium rally by saying, “All praise and glory to God!” but says that Christian leaders speaking for life and marriage have “hijacked” Christianity. He is pro-partial birth abortion, and promises to appoint Supreme Court justices who will rule any restriction on it unconstitutional. He espouses the abortion views of Margaret Sanger, one of the early advocates of racial cleansing. His spiritual leaders endorse homosexual marriage, and he is moving in that direction. In Illinois, he refused to vote against a statewide ban on all handguns in the state. These are radical left, Hollywood, and San Francisco values, not Middle America values.
The real Mr. Obama is an easy target for the general election. Mrs. Clinton is a far tougher opponent. But Mr. Obama could win if people don’t start looking behind his veneer and flowery speeches. His vision of “bringing America together” means saying that those who disagree with his agenda for America are hijackers or warmongers. Uniting the country means adopting his liberal agenda and abandoning any conflicting beliefs.
But right now everyone is talking about how eloquent of a speaker he is and – yes – they’re talking about his race. Those should never be the factors on which we base our choice for president. Mr. Obama’s radical agenda sets him far outside the American mainstream, to the left of Mrs. Clinton.
It’s time to talk about the real Barack Obama. In an election of firsts, let’s first make sure we elect the person who is qualified to be our president in a nuclear age during a global civilizational war.

I’m not sure what makes anyone qualified to run a country, considering none of them have done it before. I am commenting simply on the fact that there are people posting here calling Obama a closet Muslim, etc. If you don’t feel he is qualified, that is at least a legitimate arguement you can make against him, however I don’t see why being a muslim would be such a problem. This is what 8 years of fear mongering from the current administration has done to many Amercans (not all Americans). Also, the most “qualified” person is not always the right person for the job.

Posted by: Ryan | May 29, 2008, 1:16 pm 1:16 pm

Lets face, Senator Clinton is a waste of Senator Obamas Attention right now. He is facing the same republican machine that without fail, everytime uses the inevitable imperfections of there opposition to make them look like terrible candidates. When the issues arise they “cling” to an ideology that isn’t consistent with their behavior, and use your fear to get agreeable opinion from the american public. Mr. Obama does not have it really easy if and when he goes full steam against them. He needs to be focused on that and gearing up for the nastiness of Republican politics. If he loses the nomination then he is still doing the party alot of good, because then McCain will have to retreat and re-plan his personal attacks to suit the Clinton imperfections. Right now Barack is fighting the “good” fight against McCain and sticking to his principles rather then stooping the McCain’s level of slash and burn politics. What this country seems to have forgotten is that a tree is known by the fruit that it bears. If one person claims to be a vehicle of change but they still bear the fruits of behaviors recognized from the past they come from, they are lying.
If another claims to the same thing and shows a charachter never seen before, he is most likely being sincere. The greatest presidents in history have had radically new approaches to the government. Abraham Lincoln abolished the american institution of slavery. FDR implemented government intervention in ground breaking levels against the wishes of his rich colleagues. JFK gave his life to try and rid the country of certain agency corruptions. Ronald Reagan talked the Russians into forfeit, as he nurtured the most advanced and powerful weapons systems on earth and was ridiculed the whole time for it. All of the above took the country into a new direction and acted on spirituality and principle. Obama is the only candidate that has the true qualities of change in his charachter. He would be stupid to let McCain to far ahead of him or the democrats for that matter.

Obama Continues with a Shady Past, Including George Soros and David Axelrod:
Because Obama was running against Blair Hull in the primary and then Jack Ryan in the general (both multi-millionaires), Obama could, and did, receive especially large donations from individuals, to so-called “millionaires exception.” Normally individuals are limited to giving $2300 to candidates in federal elections, but when candidates are running against millionaires, these limits are lifted and candidates are allowed to receive up to $12,000 from a single individual. Soros and his family gave Barack Obama $60,000. This does not include money that Soros was able to funnel to so-called 527 groups (Moveon.org, for example) that have also been politically active; nor does it include money that Soros was able to raise from tapping a network of friends, business associates, and employees.
After taking advantage of the special freedom to raise large amounts of money from influential individuals, and as the campaigns entered their closing rounds, news was leaked to media outlets that both Hull and Ryan had personal scandals associated with them. The release of this news devastated both of their campaigns, leading to an easy run to victory for Obama in the primary and then in the general election. The New York Times Magazine revealed earlier in the year that David Axelrod, Obama’s chief political and media adviser, may well have been behind the leak of the story that doomed the Hull candidacy as the primary reached its home stretch.

I see alot of “laugh and wave it off” when any serious topic or question comes up. That is not a very good way to answer real questions about your stand on topics or your very questionable personal choices.
My take on this is: He says nothing because he has nothing to say. His associations are inexcusable, his stupidity is blatanly obvious, his inexperience oozes out of every pore in his body. All he can do is “laugh and wave it off”

Obama Promises He Can’t Keep:
1. In a speech given in Oregon, Obama promised that if elected he will protect The Social Security Trust Fund. A fund that does not exist, but rather is a “fund” filled with promissory notes from the government to the government.
2. Obama’s effort to impeach Clinton’s credibility through a backward-looking debate on Iraq — pitting her 2002 vote vs. his 2002 speech — has not been decisive because he has yet to show that the difference will lead to an authentically different approach to getting U.S. combat troops out of Iraq.
3.Obama said he would maintain the Cuban embargo but would offer to start normalizing relations with the communist country if it released all political prisoners. By changing his position in front of Cuban-Americans to support the embargo that he used to oppose, Barack Obama is engaging in the same political expediency that he railed against in his speech.
Obama is ultra liberal and anti-white as is his wife (read her 1985 thesis Princeton University to verify this). He is a great speaker but this does not make a great leader for America (look at some of the past “great” speakers who became head of other great nations!). He has lots of show and polish but we need more than that for our Commander-in-Chief. If he becomes president of the U.S.A., we will have a divided nation like none seen before. Some of our past presidents were not great speakers nor did they have “the presidential look” (whatever that means) and they were great leaders: Truman for example. Do not depict Obama as a wonderful candidate as the media in America is doing. The people will decide, and the people of America are not stupid enough to elect Obama

“Clinton supporter in Mich says 69-59 split is ‘flawed’”.
Of course: when Stalin ran unopposed, he got ALL the votes. That’s why the Clintonistas want.
Booooo! No delegates, no votes for illegal elections intended to undermine the democratic process.
Small states must be first or we will only have a plutocracy of rich and famous candidates, like Mrs First Lady.

The very threat of riots is ridiculous in this instance. Obama wouldn’t allow it. The real issue is are those who are racist going to divide the country because of the color of our presidents skin?

Ah, how refreshing to see a campaign run by mild-mannered, congenial, competent, frugal people, organizing financial and volunteer support in a true democratic spirit. No drama, lobbyists, spendthrifts, or deep pocket powermongers. Just decent, positive, intelligent people. That’s how I want to see my government run, the way the Obama campaign has been run.

If Clinton is such a democrat, then why are her supporters threatening defection? its obvious…duh!

THIS IS GREAT!!!!
Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean’s days as chairman of the Democratic National Committee may be numbered.
Officials say as Senator Barack Obama zeroes in on the party’s nomination, Obama is moving to put key campaign aide Paul Tewes into the spot.
I JUST LOVE THE WAY OBAMA USES PEOPLE TO GET WHAT HE WANTS THEN DISCARDS THEM!!!! LOL…..YEAH, WE WANT THIS GUY TO BE OUR PRESIDENT, RIGHT!

I would rather have a gentleman for president then a Rambo in the world as it is now. If I punched you in the mouth what would you do? you’d either try to counter attack, or call your friends. thats how the world works my friends. the weak bullies, go and pick a fight with someone they think they can beat. the jerks fight in someone elses front yard. the idiots get into a fight THEY CANT WIN!

After reading about the DNC’s ruling against Hillary, I wrote to her campaign and asked for all of the overpayments back that I had paid in while she was running. The Hillary campaign had urged me to reassign the overpayments to the General Election. If you feel that Hillary has been mistreated throughout this campaign, you, too, should ask for all of your overpayments back. The DNC is in for a rude awakening if Clinton is not somewhere on that ballot. The difference between these two candidates is not about policy — it’s about life experience. I will never be able to relate to a pastor who screams “God Damn America” or taunts that 9/11 was payback (especially having had 2 dear friends who died in those planes). I will never relate to a First Lady who throughout her life has written about how mean this country is. I don’t even dislike the candidate himself. My family and and I just don’t feel welcome in his world. His friendships and associations would never happen in my world. The DNC just doesn’t get it.

Bush had experience…and used it to destroy our country

Posted by: Henry | May 29, 2008, 2:33 pm 2:33 pm

War Hero with experience vs one term-no experience senator
Not a difficult choice with only those two options now is it?
Unless of course you have on your Obama-blinders
Hillary or McCain 08!

Do you people really think that things are better in the middle east due to our police mentality? What if we were strong enough to actually talk to those who hate us, not for our freedom, but because our bombs killed their children?

Posted by: SB | May 29, 2008, 2:36 pm 2:36 pm

McCain is a moderate, not an evangelical. He will win unless Clinton is on the ballot with Obama. The people you speak of not caring whether or not they vote for McCain have voted Democratic time and time and time again. We’re sick of losing, because the DNC keeps floating such liberal candidates. The country is centrist, not racist. CENTRIST.

Posted by: LonghornMama | May 29, 2008, 2:38 pm 2:38 pm

Yes, centrist to the point that everyone is putting up with status quo in government.
Nothing a good ole fashioned revolution can’t fix though…

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND NO OTHER PLACE ON EARTH. BUSH MENTALITY APLIES TO MCCAIN

Posted by: EMMAN | May 29, 2008, 2:43 pm 2:43 pm

The Hillary voters who say they’ll vote for McCain if she’s not the nominee. So do you never vote on the issues then?
Obama and Hillary are 99.9% in agreement on the issues.
So you’re basically stating that the issues don’t mean anything to you and this is a popularity contest?
This is why democracy doesn’t work :)

Mr O is so strong he doesn’t even need to have a running mate to win. so Hilary can forget the consolation price.
I actually believe Obama can single handedly lead this country by himself. Its time to retire for some candidates.
free donkey for clinton and mccain each and they can fade into the sunset gracefully.
Obama is gona dunk on both of them combined.

My question to the Hillary supporters is why is she doing so poorly against this unknown? She could not beat him and he was able to maintain a lead in this process. If she has this much trouble managing a campain why would you think she can do better with country. We are talking about diffrent skill sets she may have a great command of the issues but does not know how to organize her campains effort. This type of blunder on the international stage would be a disaster that is my concern when it comes to Clinton. Plus we don’t need ruling families like some third world country.

Posted by: Jon Cox | May 29, 2008, 3:23 pm 3:23 pm

If Hillary had half the class of John Edwards she would gracefully accept that Sen. Obama has won the most delegates and the nomination but Hillary is like a bad child who changes the rules of the game or takes her ball and goes home mad. Well Hillary should go back to New York and sulk like the the spoiled child she is.

BO is not qualified for his Senate job, nor the job of Pres. of USA, and most of us know this…We demand that our President brings more than just slick talking and some school-boy qualifications to the office…McCain is the only one running that has the needed requirements.

Yeah, more great coverage on FOX, we’ll be seeing it all weekend!!!!!!!!
Yahoo…another radical speaks at his church of 20 years!!!!!!!
CHECK IT OUT FOLKS….I HOPE REV. PFLEGER’S SOUND BITES ARE ALL OVER THE AIR WAVES.
AGAIN, POOR JUDGEMENT OBAMA…SHOULDN’T HAVE LISTENED TO MICHELLE ALL THOSE YEARS AGO, WHEN SHE PICKED OUT A CHURCH SO FULL OF HATRED.
THE FATAL FLAW IN OBAMA’S CAMPAIGN….TRINITY/WRIGHT.

zz,
You must be a racist. You are playing the race card again. You do not know the good people of West Viginia and Kentucky. By calling them racists helps you to validate why Obama lost. He lost because he is green. How many states are you going to call racist to explain why Hillary won most of the big and key states? Calling people racist will not get you the election in November. The “bitter they are, the harder they fall…”. Remember that.

OBAMA & CAMP NEEDS TO FIGHT THAT THE DNC HOLD ONTO THIR RULES AND HE IS DECLARED THE WINNER AND NOMINEE AND STOP THIS PITTYPAY WITH THE CLINTONS. THEY FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT BUT,THEY LOST. NOW THE DNC NEEDS TO SHOW THEY ARE NOT PARTIAL AND PLAY BY THE RULES AND PUT THE FIRST BLACK MAN AS A PRESIDENTIAL NOMINESS. HILLARY NEEDS TO GIVE IT UP AND RECOGNIZE SHE’S BEEN BEATEN AND IF SHE DOESNT QUIT SHE NEEDS TO BE FIRED BY THE DNC AND THEY NEED TO TELL HER SHE’S NOT GONA BE THE NOMINEE, NO MATTER HOW LONG SHE WAITS. SHE CAN’T BE RE-DEFINING THE RULES AND CONTEST EVERYTHING BECAUSE SHE LOST. HE RAN A FAIR CAMPAIGN AND PLAYED BY THE RULES OF THE GAMES AND HE RECEIVED THE DELEGATE COUNT, SHE DID NOT.

Just because he was raised Muslim doesn’t mean he is. And you all have no idea about the Muslim religion especially you catleya. There is no lack of value for human life in the Muslim religion and if you actually read about it you would know. Everyone is equal in there eyes. Just because the so called “9/11 Terrorists” were Muslim doesn’t mean all Muslims are like that. I actually have Muslim friends and they tell me that they in no way endorse the attacks. Plus, 9/11 was a conspiracy.

It is time for Mrs. Clinton to give up and go home. Mrs. Clinton is dividing the country in the most overt way. She must know that she going to start a major problem if she is allowed to still this nomiation from Barack Obama. The nation has spoken and Barack is the winner. It does not any thing to do with him being a black man or green man, because he is a qualified man, and a very intelligent man. The only thing Mrs. Clinton could find on Obama is his parotrs comments. Well, America that’s his Pastor not Obama. Any person that is a God Fearing CHristian truley Christ like Know that you donot pick your Church God does under God divine leading, and this probaly why he did leave his church. Oh by the way pastors are not perfect only Jesus Christ. Obama is the rt man for the Job at this time. There no time for the good old girl oh boy politics. This country is in a mess, and need someone with Obama’s intelligence to help correct the issues. Thousands of people have died for no reason in Iraq and you think we are winning this war. Fl, and Mi vote should not count they broke the rules, when you break the rules even grown up can’t play the game. Hillary stop your whinning and go home you still have a job in the senate. You have become selfish and only thinking about you and not this country. Mrs. Clinton are dividing this country.

To say that Obama is Presidential material because he won more PLEDGED DELEGATES from CAUCUSES is like saying he is the STRONGER candidate because he wins at WIENER AND MARSHMALLOW ROASTS. Please note that there are NO CAUCUSES in the General Election. He is in no way the STRONGER candidate, and any SUPER DELEGATE with any intelligence and politcal savvy at all knows that full well. The Convention should be all action-packed drama, kiddies, with Obama being just a big WIENER. As someone once said of the former baseball slugger Reggie Jackson, “There’s not enough mustard in this world to cover that hot dog.” And the same applies to Obama.

Michelle, ask your Muslim “friends” if they know what ‘al-taqiyya’ is and if they practice it. I’m sure they will tell you the truth.
“Al-taqiyya and dissimulation refer to the practice of Muslims blatantly lying to non-Muslims, but the principal goes beyond mere lying for propaganda purposes. In accordance with this license to deceive, during time of weakness the Qur’an allows Muslims to have both a declared agenda and a secret agenda. The theological principle of Taqiyya means hiding one’s true beliefs and intentions to confuse ones adversaries and enable mujahedeen to operate freely amongst enemies.”
Al-taqiyya is based on the following Quranic verse:
“Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah: except by way of precaution (prevention), that ye may Guard yourselves from them (prevent them from harming you.) But Allah cautions you (To remember) Himself; for the final goal is to Allah.” Surah 3: 28

Obama wins the popular vote, the delegate count and the superdelegate count. The only way Hillary wins the popular vote is if you count Michigan (where Obama was not on the ballot so give him zero) and don’t count the caucus states (where Obama won big but they do not release the popular vote numbers). If you “count every vote” as Hillary asks, including the caucus states, Obama wins it all in every category.
Hillary is a fact trickster and her followers are the most uneducated whites in America. The can’t figure it out.
