Lots of mean people do good things for certain groups of people. These people do not represent any sort of Christianity that I want to be a part of my life. I just called my church and asked them to watch this clip. I was told that first of all they are not allowed to contribute to political candidates as this article says. As someone in Illinois who is sick to death of the things going on in Chicago, this takes the cake. As a Catholic I cannot believe the Chicago Diocese condones this. With all of the problems the Church has had, I cannot believe it condones this blatant racism from a priest endorsing this candidate with EXTREME views on abortion just for starters. I urge all Catholics to contact their churches. To Nat Turner: No, it’s not funny. People like Pfleger and Wright and his “replacement” seem to think there is a score to settle. I certainly do not intend to vote for Obama if he is the Democratic party’s candidate. I am one of those middle aged white women that Donna Brazile says the party doesn’t need. She’ll see whether she needs the likes of me or not in November, won’t she? She better pray for good weather …. those college kids aren’t going to come out for her if the weather isn’t just so … not like all of us who have voted straight ticket all these years … but she said she doesn’t need our votes. No, what’s misleading is you suggesting that a small local band that nobody outside of Seattle has head of, or played to a crowd of more that a few hundred people drew 80,000 people all of the sudden. 1. Two of the “curious” comments by people are from a pastor and spiritual advisor of 20 years, and the other from his wife.
2. The number of people with such “curious” affiliations grows by the month.

You can’t even judge them by their associates without taking into account the context. Was Obama joining Pfelger in mocking Clinton, or did he work with Pfelger on social programs? If you get some footage of Obama joining Pfelger in mocking Clinton, then that’s relevant. Otherwise, you’ve got some guy mocking Clinton. I can find you thousands more of those on the internet if you like.
What you can do is judge the candidate by what THEY do. So what’s Obama take on this?

So why do Obama supporters think that so many associations with unsavory people is considered normal? Has he just had bad luck, does he choose to be involved with such characters, or is he just a weak personality that gets drawn in to
absurbity because he cannot say no or walk away. In any event, it is something to think about. This man is suppose to lead our country so I assume that means he would use good judgement about his associations. I think it is fair to judge him on the company he keeps.

Hillary Clinton is a former first lady and a United States senator. The lack of respect she has received has been appalling. I don’t know if it is because she is white, a woman, a Clinton or all three but I am embarrassed and ashamed of our political leaders, members of the clergy and news media. Whether you back her for the presidency or not she has received over half of the primary votes cast, FL and MI voted count them or not. It’s not surprising many Hillary supporters talk of voting not for Obama but for anyone else including write-ins. If the democratic party is split they have no one to blame but themselves. Who is REALLY playing dirty?
Obama is not a man of honor. In order to insure that Obama was to be the Democrat in his IL Senate race, his lawyers disqualified all of Obama’s opponents, all 4 of them, one by one. They took them to court and kept challenging signatures on petitions until each of them were out of contention. He was unopposed and won.
Ok…not really a big deal. But it happened a second time. The Republican he ran against, Blair Hull, was the front-runner…that is until journalists and TV broadcasters for still unexplained reasons, became aware of a “skeleton” in his closet. 6 years previously, Hull was going through a divorce and his wife alleged that Hull had threatened to kill her. Hull described that his divorce was bitter and that he had never been charged with that offense. Because of this, Hull ended up in third with only 10% of the vote. Obama ended up being the winner. Ok…maybe a coincidence….until it happened for a third time.
Now Obama set his sights on the US Senate. His Republican opponent, Jack Ryan, was the “ideal” candidate. Once again, some information go out to the media. Lawyers had to fight to get sealed records opened. They showed that Ryan’s ex-wife had accused him of taking her to a sex club. These were unproven allegations, just as were in the last scenario. Of course, Obama was the beneficiary in all of these situations. It kind of makes you wonder about what type of President this man would make doesn’t it? It did when I read it for the first time. As far as from what I have researched, this stuff is all true. I believe that the Obama campaign played the race card, painting the Clinton’s as racists. His campaign knows how to play the media or they are in the media’s pocket. I am not sure, but it all is suspicious.
The media controls our country and it is about flash over substance. That is what I feel it is all about…appearances and that is what I believe Obama is all about. This is just one of the many reasons why I’m turning down Obama.

Thanks for your comment. The intent of my post was not to “excuse” or ignore the comments of this latest pastor as I personally feel that any true Christian should follow the BE-Attitudes first and foremost.
That said, my intention was to put forth the idea that perhaps we SHOULD be having this dialogue about race and the consequences of racism as well as sexim out in the open? I agree that the pulpit or even the church perhaps is not the best venue, but the black church going back before Martin Luther King has historically been a place of socio-political dialogue and sermonizing so again why does white america react so sharply? Don’t we see the realities of racism all around us? It isn’t that Obama is purposely forcing the race card down our throats, it is in the very air we breathe and his candicacy itself has just exposed the ugly truth much like the times in the Clinton campaign, when sexism has come to the forefront–(although I disagree vehemently that sexism was ever projected by the Obama campaign) The media at times has gone after Clinton with gender-focused assaults, but this outrage about the notion of a person of color “hating whitey” represents a lack of awareness involving the reality in which we live. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to be hated just because I’m white, BUT I can understand why a person might lean towards those feelings if their entire lives were engulfed in racial oppression and injustice.

Sorry MCA…I just don’t buy it. I see Obama’s church as many of his associations as showing the contrary. I believe Clinton has the same ability to do what you purport Obama as being able to do. She has shown this to be true by her past actions. When one looks at programs put into place, then it can be clearly seen that she has shown how inclusive the government can be.
I for one, believe that Obama’s campaign brought race into this election to their benefit. Looking at the timeline it is obvious. They have proven to be hypocrites and while Clinton’s campaign has been far from perfect, at least they do not claim to be.

When someone who is “affiliated” by any means says something about race then it is automatically attributed to Obama. How does what one person says automatically makes it Obama’s view point?
I just find it hilarious how some people get on these blogs and say Obama needs to drop out because his cousins uncle’s sister twice removed said something about race AND now I’m not voting for him. Truth is–you never were going to vote for him and you will make up ANY excuse to dislike him.
Then some of you get all offended when someone (Obama didnt say it) says anything about race and you will give benefit of doubt to someone who references their staying in this race because they think Obama may be assasinated.
I just find some of you bloggers to be full of it!

Really, the fact that he even said that if he offended Senator Clinton or anyone else that he was deeply sorry is a joke. I really doubt his sincerity and his behavior in the video was far from an error in judgment since he just went on and on. There seems to be little remorse and his apology was lack luster. It is also nice how Obama has tried to hide him and his support and say that his views don’t represent Obama’s. It is hard to believe that those people around him don’t share his views or have similar beliefs and time and time again he has tried to cover up those people who are closest to him. He says that these comments don’t represent his views or values, but who values does he share- Michelle’s?!! Just look at Oregon for example. Obama won Oregon by about 70,000 votes. But approximately 79,000 Bush republicans switched party’s back in January to vote for Obama in the democratic primary. The Bush republicans think you are that stupid, and weak.
As much as 30% of Obama’s primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses, and open primaries where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help. Except North Carolina where 35% of the population is African American, and approximately 90% of them block voted for him. African Americans are only approximately 17% of the general population.
Hillary Clinton has been OUT MANNED! and OUT SPENT! 4 and 5 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton. This is even more phenomenal when you consider she has been also fighting against the George Bush, Karl Rove vote fraud machine in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses. If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. That is crystal clear now. Because all of the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. Can you tell me who all your State Senator’s are (not to be confused with the U.S. Senators from your State)? Obama was not a Governor coming in with experience managing a bureacracy or dealing with legislatures or as a Washington Outsider. He is a one term U.S. Senator who spent the first half of this term exploring a Presidential run and the latter part of his term running for President. Since he was so focused on his Presidential aspirations (and people talk about Clinton’s aspirations , at least she finished her first term and actually did the work) he only made it 82% of the time to vote (which is an extremely poor rating), couldn’t put together one hearing on his Foreign Relations subcommittee on European Affairs, didn’t take take the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, perspective and experience in foreign policy that these committees afford those in the U.S. Senate and could also explain why he didn’t say peep about Iraq for almost two years in the U.S. Senate until he decided to run for President. In regards to experience, George Bush Sr. came into the Presidency with probably the most foreign policy experience of any President in recent history ( Director of CIA, envoy to China, U.S. Representative to the U.N. and a two term Vice President) and if there is any reason to question the value of experience one only needs to look at George Sr’s handling of Iraq in comparison to his doofus son’s . In fact Obama has stated that he wants to bring us back to the foreign policy traditions of George Sr and Reagan.

Rev. Wright’s statements have not bothered me for two reasons. One, he said some things that were unflattering about the US, but they were true and needed to be said. Some things he said were excessive, but that happens when you are justifiably angry and are sounding off. I am white and a little younger than the Rev., and I witnessed some of the brutal repression experienced by blacks in the 50′s and 60′s.
However, Pleger, and especially the warm embrace by this congregation of his outragous comments, bother me a lot. I agree that Hillary indeed has a sense of entitlement and cannot take it when she is not universally adored.

EVERYONE has friends that have views on certain issues that do not coincide with our own. Those views do not reflect on you unless you partake in them. I have black friends, white friends and friends of other nationalities that have issues with cultures outside of their own. Father Michael Pfleger was show boating. What he said was wrong. He had a thought and went with it… wrong move. I’d expect more from a man of The Cloth.
Now to get some of you riled… what he said wasn’t far from the truth. Without all of the joking and mocking it would have made sense. Still, he shouldn’t have said ANY of it. His comments should be a reflection of him – not Obama, the black church or black people.
Obama is correct for denouncing the comments that his cronies make. Their words are widening the gaps that separate all of the cultures in this country. Reverend Wright (again out of show boating arrogance) had to go public with more “talk”. And, once again, some of Wright’s statements and feelings are shared by many good Americans. Criticizing the state our country is in is not anti-American. Not acknowledging that there are MAJOR issues in this country is anti-American. Democrats, we need to take Donna Brazille and David Axelrod at their word, and other Obama endorsers and supporters, that the Democratic party now consists or is a make-up of a “new coalition” which consists of African Americans, youth and affluent whites and/or the far left. They arrogantly feel they don’t need anyone beyond the “new coalition”. I personally am thrilled to see the voter turnout among the young and African American voters and I totally understand their strong support of Obama and if I were young or African American I would unapologetically be in the Obama camp.
I do have a problem though with the far left and it’s hijacking of this party this election. A big part of the divide in this party is not over race or gender but rather far left vs. moderate/conservative Democrats, class and age. Both Obama and Clinton have clearly appealed to different voting blocs and since it is clear Obama will be the nominee the responsiblity lies with the Obama camp to embrace the other factions of this party and I see know indication of any intent to do so and in fact there appears to be more of an arrogant “we don’t need you” or “we’re not worried because they would never vote for McCain”. As brilliant as the Obama campaign has been they clearly are making some huge mistakes in that arrogance and dismissal of 49% of this party. About 1/4 of the Clinton supporters have already indicated they would vote for McCain and as time is going by Obama’s shine keeps diminishing and as that occurs more will inevitably jump ship and others who considered jumping over to the Dems side will reconsider and stay put. I am college educated and yet grew up in a blue collar household and the dismissal and treatment of this crucial voting bloc within the Democratic party which represents varied ethnicities and makes up 3/4 of this Country has been shameful. The media’s reperesentation and the Obama supporters comments dismissing this group as undeducated, racist, low class, toothless wonders hopefully will cost the Dems the election, again, this year. The Dems prove over and over again that even in a year such as this, where Mickey Mouse should be able to beat McCain, that they will inevitably screw it up and this year is no different. They are dismissing a huge voting bloc which has cost them the election in the past and when we have carried them (with Carter and Clinton) we won the Presidency. The demographics of this Country is changing but not as dramatically and soon enough for the this party to sit by in it’s arrogance and misguided confidence. I for one am thoroughly disgusted with the Dems this year. I believe there were better candidates to run then either Clinton or Obama and if given the two choices we’ve had our priority should be winning back the White House rather then symbolism and redemption and an opportunity for the far left to squeeze in their agenda (which is as twisted and reprehensible as their far right counterparts). It is not so much the church as it is the man himself. Obama’s relationship with this man goes back 20 years (just like Reverend Wright), and has continued during his campaign. Obama stated in 2004 that this priest was one of his top three spiritual influences.
The congregants at this church were rolling in the aisles over what this “Father” had to say about the former first lady. I doubt seriously if everyone attending church that day had only joined the church during the last year since Obama’s non-attendance due to campaigning.

Looking from Europe, I find it painfully contradictory that a country that claims to be a champion of individual freedoms freaks out when people speak their truths. I don’t know much about what this latest pastor has seen or experienced, but surely if he or his congregation have experienced racism they should not be condemned for saying so. And, while we’re on the subject of self-honesty, do you really want a country in which only convenient lies are publicly spoken, and in which bitter truths are capsuled? Do you really want a President who will censor those around him (and yes, get over it, it will be a ‘him’ this time unless the racists prevail in distorting the rules)? No wonder so many of you prefer McCain (another Bush character). Someone mentioned Hamas’ preference for Obama: have you thought to reflect that maybe this means that under President Obama America just might, for the first time in decades, broker a lasting peace in the Middle East, in both Israel’s and Palestine’s and the broader wold’s interest? Finally, remember that it is only two decades ago that America and Europe used to label Mandela and the ANC as a terrorists! Be smarter and vote for the potential for meaningful peace, for tangible change. Be wiser and stop your knee-jerk denials. Be American and vote for diversity of opinion and the richness that it brings to your society and the world.

Yes, alpaig, but everything everyone does everyday is influnced by a number of factors. Why would we not expect political parties, media and everyone else to not have favorites? People need to take responsibility for their actions (votes, in this case) when they have the final say so on them.

There is inherent racism in this country, just like there is inherent sexism in this country…but for people who run around blaming others 24/7, you’ll get nowhere in life. Your job is to work against the system not simply point your finger.

I think it is high time Obama cuts off his relationship from that church. It is really hurting him than helping. Am black and I will understand. Anytime they cough, it will be front page headlines. Representation by counsel for the accused is one of the rights provided in our country’s criminal justice system. It might be a dirty job (like cleaning the toilet), but someone has to do it.
If Hillary was right out of law school working in a law firm that possibly handled contract public defender cases (as the law office where I am employed does) for extra money, I am certain she did have opportunity to represent assorted clients who were charged with the most horrendous of crimes. But it was her JOB to do this.
Regarding your report on the 12-year-old girl, once again, whatever was said to this girl during cross-examination was done in the interest of “effective assistance of counsel.” Had she not cross-examined all of the witnesses to the best of her ability, she might have been liable for an ineffective assistance of counsel claim that sometmes lead to suspension of one’s law license.
This is simply the way our criminal justice system was designed, and it takes both sides, prosecution and defense, for it to work.
I don’t believe that sitting in Trinity Church and listening to an assortment of clergymen spout off about white hatred and the white boogeyman has ever been part of Obama’s job. It was obviously something he chose to do, and these were people he chose to associate with on a spiritual level, and not because he was earning a salary to do it.

And by the way, the 10 second clip of Reverend Wright didn’t hit the news until long after Geraldine Ferraro made her comment. The Clintons put the spark to the fire and have been fanning the flames every chance they get. Her infamous “I remember landing under sniper fire”. Hillary’s first response was to deflect the news back to Reverend Wright which brought all the race comments right back to the forefront of the internet blogs. The only reason she admitted her lies is because there was more than one time on tape that she spouted the same lie. Don’t kid yourself, Hillary Clinton is a skilled lawyer and every one of her comments is thought-out and calculated which also explains her natural ability to spin the truth to fit her needs.

I was planning on voting for Obama, but I can’t help to think there is something wrong here. Wayne, I see the same thing every day. I’m in a business and come in contact with a lot of people each day. I think this election has about destroyed the democrat party and will take years for them to come back. If they had run a black man that the people respected or did not have so much baggage, it would have been OK. But Obama will never be elected. That is the great thing about the country that we live in! We have amazing service men and women who fight on a daily basis to make sure we can to that! Though I am not an Obama supporter, I absolutely support his church supporting him – even when that involves a few jokes from the pulpit! Were I to run as President, I would absolutely expect my church family to support me as much as possible! If they didn’t, I wouldn’t be a part of their family – after all, isn’t that why we belong to certain churches, clubs, associations? To feel supported! When are we going to just focus on the issues at hand and stop worrying about what someone else who might know one candidate or the other has to say about the candidate they do not support?

I think it’s clear McCain had no clue that they said some of those more controversial things as none of them were his pastor or close friend. Obama knows what these people preach about and he’s denying the knowledge of it like he’s oblivious to any wrongdoing whatsoever. That kind of thing is unacceptable. Just because white people were wrong in the past does not make it okay for black people and their preachers to go around hating “whitey.” Two wrongs do not make a right. Period. As I Catholic I am very embarrassed by this priest’s behavior and attitude. I have never, ever seen a priest behave in such a foul manner. Entitled is as entitled does. Hillary Clinton is interested only in states (Read votes) that benefit her. Obama cannot “distance” himself from the comments of either Rev. Michael Pfleger or Reverend Jeremiah Wright, because neither they nor their comments are the real issue.
Unmistakable evidence of the real issue lies in the video of the audience for both speeches. The approbation for the views expressed is unmistakable in the rounds of applause and standing ovations from the congregation.
There is no denying that these views are representative of the views of not only his long time political cronies, but of the very community with which Obama has chosen to associate himself for twenty years.
For him to now deny the comments, the cronies, or the community from which he comes is nothing more than the same old “say anything to get elected” b.s. that is the very substance of all of politics – old or new.
Worse, this is not merely guilt by association, because if these views really conflicted with his own, he had twenty years to make that fact evident and failed to do so until recently when it became politically expedient.
The real problem for Obama is that these views and his recent denial of them reveal what no politician ever wants revealed – his true positions and lack of character to admit them.
Couple this with a willingness to say anything and throw even his closest allies under the bus to gain power and he is forever branded for what he is – a politician. There is no worse epithet that can be ever applied to anyone. That is the real lack of change that you can believe in.

Obama needs to do what’s right and “step down” from his position as possible Dem nom. His rhetoric has divided the country Black against White in such a way I have never witnessed in all my days. What Father Michael Pfleger said was very true. Last week when Hillary used RFK assassination to call out her low-income, hard-working, no college education white people(her words) supporters to do what… we all know what. Did she apologize publicly to Obama? No, and she really owed him an apology. MSNBC and all the other ridiculous news stations had the nerve to say today that Obama should apologize to Hillary. For what? He does on own the Church or the “Man” who uttered those words. But, she owned the words she said last. So when Father Pfleger refers to her as acting like a “Superior White Woman”, that nonsense about Obama apologizing to her fits in to this scenario.
