Reid Says ‘We Should Just Relax’ About Democratic Race

ABC News’ Mary Bruce reports: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said this morning that everyone “should just relax” when it comes to determining the Democratic presidential nominee.

"I think we have to play this out.  We have a campaign that’s been very good for the American people … and we have a June 3rd final primary," Reid said in an appearance on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos." "President Clinton didn’t get the nomination until June 2nd.  So, I think we should just relax a little bit."

Reid did not say definitively that the race will go on until June, but he did note that "after that June 3rd date arrives, I think that Obama and Clinton will have a few days to make their case to the uncommitted delegates, and then the decision will be made, and we’ll have a five-month general election."

Reid also rejected the notion that the prolonged nomination fight is harming the Democratic party.

"I disagree that this fight has hurt the party.  I believe it’s been great for the country.  We have, for example, just to show what is happening around the country — Arkansas, [Democratic registration] has gone up 18 percent; in Kansas, 2,500 percent; in Nevada, for the first time in a generation, Democrats lead Republicans by tens of thousands of votes; in Pennsylvania, for the first time in the history of that state, more than 4 million registered Democrats.  And the same is going to happen the next two or three weeks.  This campaign has been great for us," he explained.

Reid declined to weigh in on the "Dream Ticket," saying, "only two people can make that decision, and that’s Obama and Clinton.  No one else can make it.  If that happens, it happens, but it can only be with the two of them."

Hitting the kool-aid early this morning huh, Tom.
No one is telling Hillary to drop out. But rather, people are telling her to stop saying st00pid things while she’s still campaigning.

No one is telling Hillary to drop out.
What the media and others in the DNC are stating is, as of right now… there are no realistic chances of her winning this nomination.
She can’t and won’t catch up in the pledge delegates.
After Tuesday big defeat, chances are she won’t catch nor surpass Obama in the popular vote.
And Obama has won twice as much contests as she won.
Those are the numbers and facts the media and other DNC members are reporting.

Reid, Pelosi, Howard Dean and the DNC can stick it where the sun don’t shine. Their undemocratic bias towards Obama and shameful complicity in the disenfranchisement of millions of voters has transformed many of us from Democrats, to Independents. If Hillary is the nominee, then I will proudly vote for her. If Obama is the nominee, then I and my extended family will do everything in our power to assist in the election of John McCain. Better a centrist Republican, than an inexperienced, deceptive, ruthless, divisive and racist Obama.

Reid is correct about the campaign being good for bringing in many new Democrats and Barack Obama has been a major force behind the increase. His campaign was out there early getting new voters registered. He brought new interest and excitement.
The damage has been Hillary’s malicious smear attacks against Obama. She has been right in there with Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity by playing on people’s fears.
You did not see that happen in the Republican race. Republicans will not tolerate anyone that attacks another Republican.

Obama has not been bribing the SDs. He’s been making a case for why he should be the Democratic nominee.
It’s obviously working.

The Commander Guy: Bill Clinton must be still exhaling not inhaling pot and Hillary Clinton (The Express) getting a buzz from the second hand smoke? After all she wears the pants in that family.
Obama all the way!

It is so disgusting that Obama says one thing and then does completely the opposite. He says on Saturday that he is not the nominee yet (and he is NOT). Yet, on Sunday he is treating himself as the nominee. You cannot believe anything that comes out of his mouth. OBAMA has bought this election and the superdelegates and the America people allowed this to happen. In this country even when attending a baseball game you wait until the last inning is over, there have been some surprises in life. Obama is trying to end the game before the American public can speak—he knows he has the support of the “black” people, but evidence points out that he does not have the vote from the Hispanics, Asians, or whites, and they are a part of America too. b

Lookup: I can’t believe that the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Didn’t Obama’s “mentor and spiritual adviser,” Rev. Wright, imply that all evil in the world is perpetrated by “the white man?”

KY and WV want help Hillary Clinton in no way.
Fl and MI may count at the convention but not at this point because the two renegades state violation the rules of the game and 2209 is out of the question? If the Clintons can’t play by the rules they should move away from the table.
The Clintons want to make-up the rules of the game as they play the play?

Melanie: As a lifelong Democrat, I can tell you that if the choice is between the John McCain and the “Obama Party,” the only wise choice is John McCain. I would never vote for Obama, and I doubt I will ever feel the same way about the Democrat Party, either.

Posted by: Louis | May 11, 2008, 12:49 pm 12:49 pm

Darn right it’s scary and it’s among the reasons why, after voting a straight democratic ticket since 1972, I won’t vote for Obama. It basically means re-aligning the entire party away from the people and values that I’ve supported for decades.

Posted by: Joe in TX | May 11, 2008, 12:50 pm 12:50 pm

Louis: I’ve never been burdened by having voted straight Democrat because I’ve never seen the point in supporting a single party all the time, and prefer — ideally — voting for the best candidate. But, overall, my choices have usually been for the Democratic candidate. But NOW? With this CULT apparatus taking over the party? No, thank you.

Hillary is a liar. She could stay as long as she wants even after November. She will not be the nominee in 2008. If Obama loses in 08, we will still be here waiting to defeat her in 2012.

It’s pretty pathetic that people start abusing other user-names to distort the original person’s point.
Lookup–before you smugly correct someone else’s history, you may want to brush up on American culture. The reference to the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor comes from a classic movie with John Belushi. It’s bad to show your ignorance in a rush to pounce on someone–the subtlety went way over your head.

Hillary should not even get the VP slot. If she does we will vote for Nader. We are not stupid like some Clintonites to even mention that we could vote for McSame. Besides, Barack should never pay the Clintons campaign debt with our money. Let the Clintonites pay for their own mess.

It’s time to repair the campaign injuries between both campaigns. I am very respectful of the Clinton’s and voted for Bill 2 times and atually went into the voting booth here in San Francisco, California to vote for Hillary and no joke a light went off in my head and all I could think of was the possibility of CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN and YES WE CAN.
More importantly a couple of important flashbacks occured and I gave it a lot of thought before I decided to vote for Senator Obama.
I know the Clinton name and politics and respect them tremendously, but the “NEW KID ON THE BLOCK” has a new energy and brings hope to a lot of Ordinary Americans and I believe he will try to strenghten our nation as a whole and I think he will work for the good of ORDINARY PEOPLE and he has 2 daughters and a wife to work for so he has no reason to do counter productive things that will affect his family or yours or mine.
I want America to represent quality of life issues for all Americans and I think Senator Obama is up for the challenge. One thing for sure he could not do any worse than what we have been forced to deal with for the past 8 years.
His race is not an issue to me nor is his patrotism. Wearing a flag pin and treating people of color as sub standard humans does not make you a good patriot. Onward and Upward. He will “walk softly and carry a very big stick” to defend ordinary people like you and me.
VOTE OBAMA 2008

Lou: You plea for unity is touching, but it’s kind of like asking a wife who has been battered for many years to “put it all behind” her. Obama and his supporters have been the most vile and insulting crew this side of the far right Bush supporters, and frankly, for many of us, it is much too late for reconciliation. Moreover, many of us simply cannot vote for Obama; he’s much too inexperienced, deceptive, ruthless, divisive and racist.

Posted by: Sally | May 11, 2008, 1:15 pm 1:15 pm

Reading so many comments with the same sentiments makes me realize I’m not alone in feeling that for the first time I must vote for a Republican. The flag pin and refusal to pledge allegiance seemed incredibly silly when I first heard it. Combining that with Obama’s church and his prejudiced statements make me realize I could never take a chance with this man.

Posted by: dds | May 11, 2008, 1:21 pm 1:21 pm

What a stupid question to ask anyone in the Democrat Party. Do you actually think that you would hear anyone say. ” We are in a lot of trouble with the party split as it is.” Hell No! You would not hear that from the Republican Party either if the tables were reversed. I think the media needs to focus on the facts instead of asking questions of which the answers are already known.

Posted by: dave | May 11, 2008, 1:25 pm 1:25 pm

Reid can relax while John McCain runs around the country making his case and our party is loosing time dealing with a nomination issue which is long since reached its conclusion. His type of leadership relaxed while Bush ran this country in the ground.

Posted by: leslie | May 11, 2008, 1:28 pm 1:28 pm

I agree with most of what everyone says here, except one thing – I can’t use my vote to allow the right wing to stay in office. But I fully understand the hard feelings so many of us have, and truth is, I even admitted to the president of my company 2 days ago, who enjoys spirited debate, that voting for Obama would be the hardest vote I ever had to make.
I can’t vote for McCain.
I can’t stand to vote for Obama.
Wow, what a mess.

“…we have a campaign that has been for the American people…” How so? We have a smart and agile man (a socialist) with little experience winning because he has offered an alternative to a smart, calculating, pathological liar (a socialist) with a husband who has a background of chasing girls (not women, yet) less than half his age, running around the country running his mouth and pointing his finger at folks. And all the other political corporation can come up with is an heroic figure of the Viet Nam War era who reads teleprompters and embraces illegal immigration (a liberal). How has this primary season been good? Hillary’s supporters are enraged and indignant, Obama’s supporters insulted and triumphant, and most Republicans are in quiet disbelief that this is all we have to choose from. To say that this has been good for the American people just shows what a shallow political hack Mr. Reid is, along the same political blood lines as Jim Wright.

I think a lotta women are asking themselves this question along about now.
I mean where in the Democratic National Committee Leadership is there a woman at all. We got Donna Brazile, who hates gays, is more responsive to her race than her sex and backs Obama because she cannot resist the movie in her head called: Triumph of the Race.
And then there is Howard Dean who hates the Clinton’s and is a progressive Democrat who went down in flames electorally; but what the hell–he is Obama’s guy on the Inside.
And then there is WHO? C’mon, all you astute electioneer armchair handicappers; Where is the woman who is in power in leadership in the Democratic National Committee? WHO?
SILENCE!!!

As the press says, both are ‘exciting candidates.’ What we need is to win in November. HIllary is the one who can win this year, and at her age (60) she may be too old next time. Obama is 46, he has plenty more time. In 2016 he will have a better chance than if he runs now: he will have more experience and a more unified party.

That is right Dem, the riot will be in the voting booths. The campaign has finallt started. This is exactly what Hillary Clinton has showed as a leader of the hard working american people.

It is a sad commentary on media bias that I had to learn from a blogger that an Obama advisor had to resign from his post for secretly meeting with the terrorist group Hamas. Had this occurred with McCain or Clinton, I am sure it would have been on every Sunday morning show.

Melanie: Pelosi and Dean are Democrats and though they may be wrong, they are still Dem’s; that is, if they are really promoting Obama…they haven’t publicly declared. However, the MSM is another story—I think they are trying to promote McCain by supporting Obama because they know that Obama is an albatross.

I have a hard time believing that the people claiming to be Hillary supporters on here are actually Democrats. Are you really so upset that your candidate is losing that you’re willing to sacrifice years more of war, economic policies that favor only the wealthy and a disintegrating health care system? The only differences policy wise between Obama and Hillary are the health care mandate for adults and the gas tax cut for the summer. Please, let’s get with it.

Eric, I don’t know whether Hillary has a chance but I am not going to have the media stuff Obama down my throat. After all, he has to go the the superdelegates also to get the required number. These posters are trying to wake up Democrats to the fact that Obama is a very iffy candidate. States Hillary could easily win like PA, Ohio, and Florida (these states gave the election to Bush) are not likely to go for Obama.

Rush Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos is in full swing. Half the people posting on here bashing Obama and telling everyone to vote for McCain are Republican supporters who are doing what Rush Limbaugh instructed them to do on his radio show. Create chaos in the Democratic party.
The beauty of the situation is that Democrats see right through this phony propaganda. We see that Limbaugh supports Clinton, and Clinton refuses to drop out, because they are both for the same cause. And that cause is to disrupt democracy and continue the reign of Clinton/Bush rule that has existed for the past 20 years. Bush I (4 Years), Clinton I (8 years), Bush II (8 years). And now, the power hungry families want another 4-8 years of Clinton in power. It’s NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
Obama has clinched the Democratic nomination, and he will handily beat aging, senile, INSANE MCCAIN in November.

I have been thinking for a while about whether or not i can vote for Senator Obama. The more i think about it, the more i am inclined to either stay home or vote for McCain. I just cannot bring myself to vote for someone who has 18 months of experience on the national level. Come on, this is not 1860 and Senator Obama is no Abraham Lincoln.
Not only does he have 18 months of experience on the national level, Senator Obama has not proposed or passed any significant legislation and he has no executive experience, no business experience and no military experience. For all his talk about bringing this country together and unity us and move us beyond partisanship, he has no significant bipartisan legislation. The man has never been a governor, or a businessman, or former officer of the US military or great legislator. His CV can be summarized in 2 words: community organizer. In all honesty, this is not enough for me to vote for him for president. In my mind, he did not cross the threshold to become a CIM and i just cannot vote for him.

Two-cats said, “Eric, I don’t know whether Hillary has a chance but I am not going to have the media stuff Obama down my throat.” The media isn’t stuffing Obama down your ‘throat’. Obama has the clear delegate lead that Clinton CANNOT catch up to. The media, and the Super Delegates supporting Obama on a daily basis, see this math and realize the country has already spoken through the VOTING process. Obama will be the nominee because the people chose him. Clinton needs to drop out of the race so that the party can unite behind Obama for November.

Posted by: Eric | May 11, 2008, 2:14 pm 2:14 pm

The only way for me to vote for Obama is for VP and Senator Clinton for President. That is the only condition. Other than that, i am staying home or maybe voting for McCain.
If the folks here are serious about opposing Obama, we need to organize in groups and by states. We need to target battle ground states and organize our efforts in those states. Let us start here discussion groups that oppose Senator Obama in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, and Florida and let us organize our opposition efforts. These states represent about 79 electoral votes and without these 4 starts no one can win the presidency.

These so-called Obama “scandals” are a joke. This electorate lived through the 90s and the Bush Administration. Being associated with controversial personalities is not exactly on the same level as adultery in the Oval Office, lying under oath, lying to take the country to war, firing U.S. attorneys for failing to pursue political witchhunts and outing CIA agents as political retribution. The voters who bother to pay more than two seconds of attention are seeing right through the pathetic attempt to create scandal where there is none.

Rush Limbaugh said, “The only way for me to vote for Obama is for VP and Senator Clinton for President. ” IS THAT YOU, RUSH? Operation Chaos is in full swing. Democrats, GOOGLE ‘Operation Chaos’ and see the dirty tricks being used by McCain’s supporters to ruin your shot at true Democracy. The power the neo-conservatives have held for 8 years is slipping through their fingers, and they are desperately doing anything they can to disrupt the Democratic race.
Obama needs to declare his VP choice NOW (someone other than Hillary ‘McCain’ Clinton) and move on beyond this nonsense. He is the nominee and he needs to focus on winning in November.

Hillary Clinton FAILED MISERABLY at her task of reforming health care while First Lady. Her ONLY responsibility was to reform health care and she failed inside of a year. She had NO other job and NO other responsibilities but that, and she failed miserably. She has absolutely no chance to succeed at the Presidency. She can’t even take the pressure of the campaign without breaking out in tears or lying about sniper fire in Bosnia. Give it up Clinton apologists. Obama has clinched the nomination.

Harry Reid is trying to be noble now I guess. Regardless of what happens now, I will never vote for Obama for President, and I’m tired of being called low class, racist, and uneducated because I have never supported him. I don’t care if he is white, black, purple, or green with yellow polka dots, the man is just the least qualified of ALL who have run this year. Biden was my choice, Hillary second. Though I have voted most of my life for Democrats,it is my right to not vote Democratic if I don’t feel that candidate is best for this country. So, for those of you who truly believe in Obama, fine. But quit putting the rest of us down who are also voting our conscience.

While I’d probably never vote for the guy, I can absolutely see the Reagan Democrats becoming the McCain Democrats, and the Bill Clinton republicans voting for McCain.
There was a reason why Bill Clinton was the only twice-elected Democrat in 30 years. The Country is much more moderate than Dean & The Elites care to accept. That’s why McGovern, Dukakis, and Kerry, didn’t pan out. I think Jimmy Carter won because he had that Southern thing going on.. and was billed as a ‘peanut farmer’, not an academic elite.
Why are we doomed to continue making these same mistakes? I have the DNC/DLC to thank for running Al Gore off… now they run Hillary off.

In May of 2004, Kerry was ahead of Bush by 14 points and went on to lose the election. All I can say to Obama supporters is that your messiah better be able to walk on water to win this one.

Tearing down the New Deal is not moderate. Preserving its institutions and creating universal health care is as crazy liberal as Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower. The reason Reagan Democrats existed is because the country was divided along racial and religious lines. The new generation of political leadership and Americans is ready to bridge that divide and create a middle-class society in America again.

the superdelegates can switch sides and have switched sides , one may ask , why is it NOT possible that something about Obama ‘s association with his racist mentor/pastor for the last 20 YEARS comes out 2 weeks before the convention and all of a sudden the Supers realize that this Joke is UN-AMERICAN AND UN-ELECTABLE agaisnt Mc Cain in NOv. and thus they switch side to HIllary , Why is that NOT possible ???? you tell me! there are 6 primaries left , over 270 undecided superdelegates , that is a total of almost 400 delegates , Obama only led by 170 delegates MAX. , and superdelegates can switch sides AT THE CONVENTION ….and there are tons of things about Obama’s associations with the racist Wright (sorry , he does not deserve to be called Reverence), with the Weather underground terrorists , with the criminal Tony Retzko who is currently on trial now and there are his and his wife’s views about America and Americans that we do not YET know about ….and when those come out , who would prevent the superdelegates from Switching sides????? As an elitist who cannot connect with blue collars and other working stiffs, just what has he said to reassure them that he can improve their lot? And then after he outlines a specific and clear strategy for economic growth how does he exactly intend to implement and prioritize?
Absolutely nothing in his background even suggests that his unfortunate experiences in Chicago equip him to help us out of this mess, and the same people who helped make this mess are supporting him in Congress, and will be part of his “vision and hope team” that will change it all. Presto. Magic. Umm.

plz old-time democrats .. when you go to the polls come Nov think about how your vote would affect the younger generation … they would be leading the world in the near future ….. and as you can see … mostly all want change …..

toto: middle class tax cuts, fair taxes on the wealthy, tuition tax credits that would pay for much if not all of public school (undergraduate, depending on your state)…and health care for those who can’t afford it.

A few easy ones: (1) Obama will screw you as a Dem. (2) he’ll be a terrible Pres. (3) he’ll be a poor and quite possible dangeours “world” leader.
Let me tell you who has really done things that are “polar opposite” to what a Dem stands for:
Obama supported Cheney’s bill; Obama never did anything; that is ZERO with the single most important responsibility he was ever entrusted with as a US Senator: NATO, Afghanistan, chairng the FR subcommittee on Europe.
Obama wanted , desperately wanted to support Roberts; he liked and respected Roberts.
Obama voted against capping predatory rates that CC companies charge.
Obama believes that the Republicans are better than the Dems. at regulating….
( think environment; yeah right!).
There are of course much more elaborate reason that have been argued, presented and discussed at length and depth here at NQ if you care to search and spend the time reading and informing yourself.

McCain’s answer to all problems: another war in the Middle East. This is also what McCain and Hillary have in common. This is why the Clintonites want Hillary to be McSame Chief Campaign Strategist and VP.

Sorry to offend ,,you DforMcc. The “messiah” term was just used for reference. But you have to admit that Obama poses as a chosen one, and believes the messiac praises showered on him.
I forgot to add to my comments earlier, that the disdain Obama has for the DNC, is further complimented by Michelle who has , it is reported, dismissed Hillary as a potential Vice President nominee.
Can you imagine Michelle, who is a Jane doe come recently , has the audacity to talk down to Hillary Clinton.
Iam perdicting trouble ahead if Obama becomes the nominee, and worst yet the President. Michelle Obama is very condescending and elitist.

How very perplexing.
Folks claim to support Senator Clinton yet ignore, dismiss and demean a claim she made numerous times early in this campaign. How can you support her yet totally reject an argument she made early on?
She claimed in debates, REPEATEDLY, that any of the Dem candidates was a superior choice to McCain or Huckabee. She said there was very little difference between the Dems and a mountain of difference between any of them and McCain.
Was she lying? The facts support what she said. Yet here many of her supporters are completely rejecting what she said. I really wonder about this so called support when you reject her early and valid claims.

Reid declined to weigh in on the “Dream Ticket,” saying, “only two people can make that decision, and that’s Obama and Clinton. No one else can make it. If that happens, it happens, but it can only be with the two of them.”
Yeah right! Like Howard Dean and the DNC has nothing to say about it! Reid talks like it’s deciding to get married.

Nicholas,
You certainly are cynical, why do you think he would lose the white vote, when he’s won states like Utah, Idaho, Colorado, etc. by wide margins? There is nothing about Obama or his campaign that resembles Dukakis. Obama has run an astoundinng (some may say brilliant) campaign without going negative. Polling shows Obama competitive with McCain in places Democrats haven’t won in ages (like Texas and South Carolina).

Point of fact Dukakis was running at a time when the outgoing President had GREAT approval numbers.
Not the case we have now making that analogy flawed at best.
Certainly some irritated Clinton supporters are going to stay home and not vote. They will join the irritated GOP folks who don’t like McCain. Those numbers will be offsetting.
This election will swing on the middle, not on the bases. That’s a group Obama appeals to.
With 70% dissapproval ratings this country does not elect Senator ” I promise to send up SC justices who will over turn Roe v Wade” Mccain, am bought by lobbyists and pandered after endorsements from “Jerry “This country deserved 9/11″ Falwell and “Katrina was just retribution” Hagee. Not to mention we’ll stay in Iraq for decades to come.
That’s just cutting off your nose to spite your face.

If anyone can read the political positions of Hillary and McCain and seee them as the same, then it means you are not thinking , reading or comprehending enough to make political statements.
If you think the Republican conservatives and the Democratic ” Liberals” are the same in princile , ideals or world outlook then you embarrassing yourself.
While the battle to win the election seems as if it is a person vs person, it is really about which Party will serve which class first.
The Republicans will serve the Upper Class first , second and last. The Democratic Party is destined to serve the bulk of the population first and guide the efforts and resources with that mind set.
Of course there will cooperation and alliances to get the job done, but no selling out of principle is allowed.
I am sure you never heard Obama speak about that.

yeah…yeah….yeah…..Listen to the failures that are Pelosi , Dean and Reed and the B.S they want to feed you with Unity of the Party Craps….they do not want the Clintons in office period because that would highlight their incompetence ….there is a reason why congress’ approval rating is WORSE than Bush….there is a reason why Bill ( with all his fooling around that I do not agree with ) still got saved by the people at the last minutes……Everyone has flaws , one may have more than the others or bigger flaws than others but hey , when you are hired to do the job, you gotta do it , that is why you got paid ….Pelosi , Dean and Reed took the money and sleep on their jobs , Clinton for the womanizer he is and Hillary for alll the negative she has , actually did their jobs and have the ability to handle the upcoming tasks…Obama is just as incompetent as Pelosi and Dean and the rest of them , that is why he has hardly anything to show for after his years in Congress and plus , how much experience a junior Senator has that qualify him for the Presidency????? Look at the way Hillary fight for Health CAre and agaisnt the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and you will have the idea …Plus , an executive’s wife is like a businessman’s wife , who give him advices on a lot of matters when they are alone with each other in their family hours , also , look at the relationship between Billl and Hillary , She did play a large and active part in all his success…that is why Bill stick with Hillary when there are a lot of other good looking women who are willing to fall into his arms…I am not saying that what Bill did is right , I am saying that for all the Talents Bill has ( and he has talents) Bill respect Hillary and there is a reason to that . This lady has talents ,courage and determination to lead …I say she atleast as qualified as Bill , if not even more than him….So for all of you who doubt her ability , think about how your wife help you in your business especially if you are a business owner …… If you are a doctor or a professional , your spouse may not have the ability to help you that much , but if you are in business or an executive , don’t you count that woman out……I say Go Hillary , show Pelosi and Dean and the rest of them what you can do ….

Hey Harry, I’ll relax when you, Pelosi and Brazile are run out of the party for good. The three of you, along with Ted Kennedy would be fired if you worked for me. So as a voter, the next best thing is to do all I can to bring down your Messiah.
You will reap your reward come nov. The leadership(if that’s what you want to call them) of the party has tried to force the radical left down the throats of the very people that have made this party what it is.
Your math concerning new voters coming into the party is very flawed. For every two new voters you bring in, you are losing three long time voters. Just read the blogs here and other places, voters feel this election is already RIGGED, so relax!
Pelosi, I can only wish I lived in your state so I could vote you out of office. You are the worst majority leader(again, if that’s what you want to call her)that has ever held the position. Between the two of you, the last two years has been a bust, with all you can do is shove YOUR candidate down our throats.
Having already switched to INDEPENDENT, I will vigorously work towards swiftboating the candidate that is not ready for this office.
And this is for WHY??…..You radical leftist want change and you want it now! Well change doesn’t come quick in politics and you just don’t tell an entire generation to forget what you know about elections and blindly vote for inexperience. And by voting against your candidate, I will try to save you from your own blind self interest. Your generation(your words not mine) is going to have to fight for their place in politics just like we did and the generations before us.

true black,
If Obama didn’t have excellent judgment, there’s no way he could have come out of nowhere to seize the Democratic nomination. It was good judgment to build great organization in the caucus states, to campaign in the Western states, to focus on Iowa and South Carolina to start, to seize the potential of the Internet. Obama realized this is a proportionate delegate race, and if you can manage big wins in even red states, you can rack up a lot of delegates, not to mention create battleground states out of some that have been in the GOP pocket for decades.

The Democratic Party is such a disgrace this year. If the so-called Super delegates want to totally destroy the Party, then go ahead and nominate Obama. This is one Democrat who can’t wait to see Obama and the Democratic Party lose in November. I am in favor of getting rid of Peloski and Reid by voting out my Democratic Congressman and Senators. Maybe by 2012 under new leadership, the Democratic Party can become the Party that People can be proud of again.

Remember back in summer of 2006 McCain/Kennedy were the sponsors of the “The Dream Act”, and it was shut down by an overwhelming Will of the American people This behavior of Kennedy singing in spanish should be a “Red Flag” if Obama is elected, riots look’s eminent.

I still want to know what they are so afraid of that they think they have to support Obama when the majority of the nation wants Hillary. If there were to be a revote in the states before Obamas’ trash was revealed, MANY would vote differently. It’s not Hillarys’ fault he didn’t put his name on the ballot in MI. dem,
Oh right, I forgot that only the states Clinton wins are the states that matter. I guess we’ll have to see who wins in OR, SD, MT, WV and KY to see whether they matter too. You obviously haven’t been paying attention to McCain/Obama polls in TX, SC, MT, AK and IN. Obama is competitive in all those states. In a Clinton/McCain head-to-head, suddenly WA and OR are up for grabs and you can forget about CO. By the way, not that it matters, but Clinton won OK if my memory serves correctly. Suddenly WV is defined as the critical swing state. Clinton folks, come home. Obama is a progressive candidate that has amazing campaign organization and a very motivated base. This is the year.

I’m a long time Republican and I can tell you that a large number of Republicans are sick of what’s happened to the conservative party. McCain represents an extension of the failed policies of the Bush Administration. Clinton…. don’t even go there with me. I had enough of her husband for 8 years.
I will be voting for Obama this year. He represents a fresh perspective on politics and he has the ability to lead and bring diverse groups of people together. This is what Ronald Reagan did during the 80′s, and it is what Obama will do next year.

This type of thought process is more like the Republicans (the “your either with me or against me” type of Rovian politics). We know you are Republican bloggers trying to divide the Democratic party because it’s the ONLY way “Old Man” McInsane has a snowball’s chance in H### of winning the GE. Just by saying that voting for McSame is a vote for Hillary qualifies Obama as the Dem nominee. It is important to have a clear choice in November. On one side a candidate who wasfor the war and will get us to fight at least 2 more wars while the country is going down economically and a candidate who believes the contrary. If Hillary looks like McSame to the point that the Clintonites would rather vote for him then the superdelegates should meet tomorrow and toast Hillary Clinton.

Marianne,
No he didn’t. At the behest of the outgoing Dem that encouraged him to run, he held a State Senate campaign event at Ayers’ home (who is a prominent Chicago Democrat in his neighborhood.) Do you know everyone that lives down the block from you? Are you closely associated with everyone you’ve had dinner with? Millions of people donate to Obama’s campaign. (Far more than donate to any other campaign; he is flush with cash and both other candidates are broke)…and Barack wasn’t in the pew during the controversial Wright sermon. So no, he wasn’t lying at all. Funny to hear this coming from people who allegedly (I still doubt that these folks are really Hillary backers) support a candidate whose spouse was disbarred and impeached (by the House) for committing perjury while a sitting president.

Posted by: Tom | May 11, 2008, 3:32 pm 3:32 pm

No Democratic candidate can win the race in November without stealing some of the Republican vote. What I do know about a lot of my conservative friends is that they would never, under any circumstances, vote for Hillary Clinton. Not after what happened during her husband’s Presidency. Because I do not want the Bush policies to continue, the choice I have made is for Obama. I believe he represents the best chance at winning the general election on a reform platform.

Ted Kennedy’s dismissal of HRC as a viable VP due to the need for leadership and noble character belies his own issues with character. He was a responsible adult male when he left the scene of an accident in which the girl in his car was still alive, and did not report to the authorities immediately. By the time divers got to her she was dead.
The manner in which it was done has alienated many, many HRC voters which constitute nearly 50% of the popular vote (16.6 M vs. Obama 16.7M). This negates the Obama’s campaign claim to running a “different kind of campaign”. (Chicagoans know that he is a Chicago style politician, the Alice Palmer campaign being just one example – so there is no surprise here). Many of us will vote McCain, knowing that a Democratic Congress will keep the Republicans in check. In fact, after nearly eight years of a one-party system and the abuse of power it brings, it’s time to being back a checks and balance system, otherwise we risk going to the other extreme. Things may happen more slowly but it’s better to have a well vetted decision than a hasty one we may regret. A Democratic congress will minimize all the doomsday scenarios people are putting forth if we get a Republican president. McCain will bring the needed experience and long-time service as a Senator etc. to a country going through so much economically and otherwise. Let Congress provide the “change” and McCain provide the counterbalance with his experience. The difficult leaders of other nations will be more apt to respect a seasoned veteran who has been through the depths of hell and can’t be shaken than an inexperienced and untested young man who excels at campaign strategy but has not paid his dues. As for age, well, Nelson Mandela was 77 when he became President of South Africa, leading it through a difficult time unequaled by most nations, with success, and that after 27 years of harrowing imprisonment which affected his health (one of my heroes).
Here’s why Ted Kennedy has no moral platform to stand on regarding Clinton’s staying in the race (quoted).
“Ted Kennedy was also billed as the CHANGE CANDIDATE in the 1980 Presidential Race; he tried to change the party rules at the convention and tried to get delegates released from their voting commitment for the other candidate. Kennedy came into the Democratic convention:
The delegate tally at the convention was in part:
Carter – 2,129.02
Kennedy – 1,150.48
The popular votes in the primaries were:
Carter- 10,043,016 (51.13%)
Kennedy- 7,381,693 (37.58%)
This was a despite the fact that Kennedy swept the last batch of primaries in June. Kennedy refused to drop out, and the 1980 Democratic National Conevention was one of the nastiest on record. Kennedy’s only chance to wrest the nomination from Carter, who had enough delegates to win, was to pass an “open rule” motion. Kennedy wanted the rules governing delegate voting thrown out, minority platform reports presented for floor vote requirement, pledged delegates must be released, the losing challenger must be allowed to address the convention and the president must take a loyalty pledge.
The deciding vote was “the robot rule vote,” which played out in front of the prime time television audience. The contentious debate was over whether delegates should have to vote for the candidate they’d been pledged for, or have an “open” vote during which they could pick Kennedy or Carter. Although he picked up additional delegates, Kennedy lost.

There seem to be an awful lot of Obama supporters who think they “know” what the Clinton supporters will do in the GE. Or maybe they’re just whistling past the graveyard. I, for one, assure you that, as soon as Obama is officially declared the nominee, there will be a McCain sticker on my bumper, and I most certainly WILL vote McCain in the fall. Whistle all you like.

I can not understand why a dem. do not want to have Clinton back in the White House ….the Republicans have a reason to hate him, although a lot of them don’t , that was why he was saved at the last minute for all the bad behaviors he had ,but a Democrat must have known that he was the ONLY ONE who was able to make a Democrat proud …Carter got elected once , but he was a complete Failure and continue to show his ignorance when talking to Hamas , JFK was great , but too bad , his was a short one . LBJ was good , but everyone knows that he was connected to the mob ….Bill Clinton was the only Democrat able to win 2 terms as President as far as most of us can remember in our lifetime and MORE , he was the only ONE who was able to do the job right ….When you are the POTUS , no doubt there will be a people who disagree with you , but the majority of the people in and out the country see that Bill was doing his job superbly ….Also , No One can deny that Hillary has played a large and active role in Bill’s success and yet , when having the chance to have both BILL and HILLARY back in the White House , the Dems are about the screw it up with a junior , inexperient , divisive Senator who has but 3 years in the US congress…..God helps the Democrats…….I say the party needs to be taught a hard lesson by loosing this Nov. election if they go with Obama….they have something proven good and yet , stupid enough to spend their money on an uncertainty …Let them weep come this Nov…..Let them dream on …after all , they have decided to go with the Ultra-Liberals elitists that most of us think will do the country no good….let them at Obama to that long list of Mc Govern , Dukakis, Kerry and the likes… it is indeed better that the Republicans controll the White House …

Thanks Harry, you sound wise. Oh that’s right, you’re one of those older Democrats. Anyway, aside from O’Reily who was obviously attracted to Hillary, why are all the Republicans so emotional about defending Obama since the beginning? It’s obvious to me, but then I am a political junkie I guess. Oh wait, large states have not fallen for the Obama push. Hmmm….

We need these states to win the general election!

On the other hand Obamas win want big last Tuesday!!
He is now where he stands before the PA Primary and if Hillary wins big in WV he will lost the win of NC!!

reid and others can say what they like. if only 5% of dems don’t vote because they don’t like the nominee and 2% vote for mccain because they don’t like the nominee, that dem loses 5% of the vote which both gore and kerry won in the last election and mccain wins 2% more of the vote than gee dubya won in the last election and no democrat can then capture enough swing voters in swing states to take those states’ electoral votes, and the republican wins. and that’s only 7% who either don’t vote or vote for mccain, and it’ll be more than than. it won’t be 50% but it’s not the case that EVERY democrat with vote for the democrat.

Hillary should not be VP, Obama should. Hillary is smarter on policy and should be the PRESIDENT. If this were a job interview, Obama would have been dismissed long ago with a “We’re looking for someone with more experience.” Oh wait, it is a job interview and some people want to hire the young guy ’cause he’s so cool. Yeah, that will help poverty, racism, war.

Harry, the annointed one of Teddy will need to answer to Hillary Democrats before he passes go. And, that is an impossible task. The party leadership and super delegates have picked someone without experience and record of accomplishment. His character flaws are red meat for the republicans. How can any real Democrat support this ridiculous situation? I see no hope for the party; let us try again in 2012.

Tom, you just DON’T GET IT! There are people that just don’t think Obama is good for the country reguardless of political persuasion and I am one of them.
As far as being angry, your right. I am angry at the lack of leadership in this party. I am angry that these leaders have shoved this canidate down peoples throat, as they think they know best.
If I have to go through another four years of a puppet regime in Washington, so be it. It is better than have someone inexperienced at the wheel kowtowing to the like of Kennedy, Kerry, Reid, Pelosi and Brazile.
I haven’t spent my last 60 years not learning from past mistakes and believe me, Obama will be the biggest mistake to ever hit the office.

For Democrats it is the perfect storm. Obama secured the nomination before media scrutiny would reveal him to be a bigot. Now that the facts are out, it is too late to reverse the outcome of the primary season, but guarantees he will lose in November.

I CHECKED THE REGISTER VOTES ON SOME
OF THE ABOVE STATES YOU JUST
MENTIONED.
-REGISTER VOTERS 400.000
-OBAMA GOT 40.000 VOTES.
-DIFFERENCE:390.000
=========
WHO ARE THEY THOSE 390.000 VOTERS????
MOST LIKELY REPUBLICANS TAKE UNDER
CONSIDERATION THAT ALL THE ABOVE
ARE “RED STATES”.
PRIMARIES AND SPECIAL CAUCUSES DO NOT
GIVE YOU A CLEAR PICTURE ABOUT G.E.
BECAUSE THEY ARE UNDER CONTROL OF THE
ACTIVISTS OF EACH PARTY.
NOVEMBER G.E ARE DIFFERENT BALLGAME.
I HOPE I ANSWERED TO YOUR QUESTION.

If the DNC will not listen to the people, then the people will not listen to them however they clain to have united the party . This party is not going to be united after all and people anrenot getting it at all. The real problem in the party here is power tussle and not really Obama or Clinton but a sort of power tussle between Kennedy and Keery against Bill Clinton and this is a real fact. Kennedy and Kerry really brought out Obama against Clinton and supported him and a divided house cannot stand and DNC will surely not stand, with Obama they have failed.

With the recent revelation that one of Obama’s advisors has secretly met with Hamas, combined the anti-American comments of his church, I would seriously worry about the security of this nation should he be elected.

Stanley Kurtz has a devastating piece in the Weekly Standard, analyzing a year’s worth of the news magazine published by Reverend Jeremiah Wright: Jeremiah Wright’s ‘Trumpet’. To the question of the moment—What did Barack Obama know and when did he know it?—I answer, Obama knew everything, and he’s known it for ages. Far from succumbing to surprise and shock after Jeremiah Wright’s disastrous performance at the National Press Club, Barack Obama must have long been aware of his pastor’s political radicalism. A careful reading of nearly a year’s worth of Trumpet Newsmagazine, Wright’s glossy national “lifestyle magazine for the socially conscious,” makes it next to impossible to conclude otherwise.

The DNC is irrevocably broken. They are so broken that they don’t even know what they stand for anymore. As a life long Democrat, I am dismayed that they no longer actually care about me until they need my vote, and then when we do vote, they don’t want to count the votes unless they say so. For all of the Obama supporters, remember when Howard Dean was an early favorite in the 2004 Presidential election, people raved about him, supported him unequivocally. We, however were fortunate that he did not become the Democratic nomination. Look at his leadership regarding the DNC, it speaks volumes as to what he might have done in the White House. Obama is also an un-tested, young, inexperienced Senator. There are many, many things that we do not know about him. Obama is not a unifyer for all of the people, he is a unifyer for African Americans and the young college kids, he will not be able to bridge the division within the party. He will simply fail in November.

Gill: I don’t hold Obama responsible for the statements of others. I hold him responsible for his statements. Someonewhoknows: I completely agree with you. Dean’s leadership has been comprised of hurling insults and screaming matches. The command-and-control type operation mode and the need to play identity politics (i.e. gotta get a young black guy in there even though he has no experience is what the DNC is about) is precisely the thing that is wrong with the DNC. Instead of substance, instead of someone who actually aspires liberal political ideals, you have someone who happens to have the skin color you want. The otherside of the debate is a white woman – some feel that somehow qualifies a candidate for office.

Posted by: Frustrated Voter | May 11, 2008, 4:36 pm 4:36 pm

I agree with you Anne, Obama should be ashamed of himself. The simple truth is, had Saddam adhered to UN resolution 1441 the US would not have invaded Iraq. Documents secured from Saddam now show that Saddam had every intention of restarting his WMD program as he did not think the US would invade him. So sooner or later, the world would have had to face up to the immediate threat Saddam posed to the world. Post 9/11, the US decided it would not wait and be attacked by a known enemy of the West . An enemy who cheered 9/11 , provided aid to Hamas , and who every intelligence agency reported had WMDs. Thus Iraq was invaded. In my opinion, whether it would have been better let Saddam stay in power is a moot point at this time. The facts on the ground now in Iraq are that Al Qaeda is there and if the USA retreats and turns Iraq over to them, Al Qaeda will have access to Iraq’s large oil reserves and thus the means and opportunity to attack us and attack us hard. Our Middle Eastern allies will abandon us and hook up with Al Queda, not to mention the boost a withdrawal from Iraq will give to Iran, Syria and Hamas. Think WWIII, A lot of people on these posts seem think the worse of the USA, again as embodied in the anti-American sermons of Rev. Wright. Further, they scoff at the threat Al Qaeda and the rest of their ilk poses to the security of the US and future of the Western World. I say stop thinking the worse of America and save a little of your vitriol for our true enemies who want to kill us all.. If Obama is elected his defeatist policies will put us all at more risk of another 9/11 attack and even worse the blow up the middle east which will mean more will die, just like what happened in WWII when people thought Hitler could be appeased and were wrong, very wrong. Whats more, the killing fields of cambodia could be played out again in Iraq by Al Qaeda, Only this time the people murdered could be the very people that risked their lives to support the US. Question to Obama supporters, if Obama wins, can you sleep well at night if you get what you want and this happens? I hope not.

Posted by: Harry | May 11, 2008, 4:37 pm 4:37 pm

I think it’s very disingenuous, especially for experienced political pundits/reporters, to keep harping on “how difficult it will be for Obama to pick up “white working class voters”….
It’s quite obvious, that in areas where Hillary had huge leads, the more time Obama spent there, and voters got to know him, and not the media’s spun version, they became supporters. This has also been true within the black community, which initially was more tepid about his candidacy, until they too, got to know him better.
To assume that simply voting for Hillary means they will not be voting for the Democratic nominee in November is quite a huge leap, and ignores the even more divisive nature of the GOP’s primary race, where those Republicans who can’t stand McCain, do so because they KNOW him, not because they’ve yet had a chance to do so…..

BO CANNOT WIN – You sabotaged Hillary’s campaign from the start – I KNOW if BO had won FL and MI they would have already been dealt with……..Shame on you…………..You will be the losers and all of the American people.
You can buy the media, you can buy the blacks, you can “create” news as often as you like to give him the nomination BUT what are you going to do when the Republicans go after him and you???????
You don’t stand a chance and I am glad for that – he is scary and the public senses it and will respond accordingly.
I hope he is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame – his political career is about to be over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Dem, you stated that democrats are upset with the illegal disenfranchisment of FL and MI. I don’t get the illegal part, or the disenfranchisment part either.
Maybe you should have paid more attention in government class. The primaries are NOT run by the government, they are simply an opportunity for the parties to take a poll to see which candidates should be on the ballot in the real election in November. The primaries are run by the parties. The parties get to make the rules about how the primaries will be run. The RNC and the DNC are PRIVATE organizations, just like your church, your country club, or the NRA. Each of these organizations gets to make their own rules about events they are holding. If you want to participate, you follow their rules; you don’t want to follow the rules, you can’t play.
In the primary situation, the DNC set the rules and dates that states could hold primaries (not illegal). Florida and Michigan broke the rules and held their primaries on different dates (not illegal.) The DNC told Florida and Michigan that their opinions won’t count (again, not illegal.) And since the primaries are not elections, there is no disenfranchisement.
This 2 party primary system might be a goofy system, but it’s the system we have, so we have to follow the rules. If you don’t like the system, then get involved and vote to change it.

The Democrats have made a mess of the Presidential Nomination process. If the Democrats can’t even run their own nomination process in a fair and orderly way, how do you think they will run the Nation if they get all the power? Not to mention, Obama thinks we have 57 States, not 50 and the Democrats think Obama is some sort of god? Just think that anyone who thinks a large, centralized government staffed by a bunch of bureacrats who have little incentive to do anything but collect their pay checks is the best way to bring about “change” and “hope” are not that bright.

What they want is a bannana republic! That’s a one party ruling state that keeps it’s rule by rigging elections…a charicteristic of places like Cuba and other communist/dictator states. You know the real Democrats should just allow the fake Democrats (AKA Republicans posting on BOTH sides just to cause division) argue amongst themselves. Just vote.

“My kingdom is no part of this world.”

Anyone who insists this is a divided party, just wishes to divide the party. There is NO WAY that McCain should win unless the Dems fall for this BS. 100 years in Iraq – what income level has to pay for this, bomb Iran – what income level will send their sons and daughters to be slaughtered, conservative justices – who will be hurt by their decisions. Please, as Bill Clinton said, “Give me a break.”

“OBAMA has bought this election and the superdelegates and the America people allowed this to happen. In this country even when attending a baseball game you wait until the last inning is over, there have been some surprises in life.”
Explain how he has bought the election, that’s quite a statement.
Hillary has been acting like the winner the entire time, even after the poor showing in IN & NC-of course, she was supposed win months ago, right? This was her destiny? Inevitable?
We’ll see who wins, just try to make some sense.

Posted by: Gina | May 11, 2008, 6:45 pm 6:45 pm

Bell,
I support Hillary, but if it turns out that Obama is the nominee, I will vote for him in November, and I won’t even have to hold my nose to do it.
My biggest reason for doing this, is knowing that our next president will likely get to appoint at least one Supreme Court Justice, maybe more.
George Bush, with his appointmet of John Roberts and Sam Alito, will continue to impact our lives for another 30-40 years (like he’s not already done enough damage in the 7 years he’s been here.) A vote for a republican just ensures that the Supreme Court becomes less impartial and more political.
Real democrats will think about things like this when they go to vote.

Posted by: tlparp | May 11, 2008, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm

Sally….I know exactly what you mean, My family will not vote for Hillary if she is the nod. So I guess the party is divided. Obama has not done anything to any of the people who hate him except be Black! But that’s ok because our country is in the shape it is in because of the hate and the wrong that has been done to so many people. With all of the natural diaster that is going on in our great nation, it should be a sign that God is fed up with the HATE! So you go right ahead and pray that God will forgive each and everyone of us!

Posted by: Emilianna | May 11, 2008, 7:12 pm 7:12 pm

Deb in RI…Do you think that Obama supporters are not angry? Well, let me open your eyes, WE ARE! It is very hurtful when you hear people say everyday that they will not vote for him simply because he is black, never mind he is 50% white. This is not a good feeling for Blacks but who cars, right, we do not matter as much as the whites. Well, I beg to differ, I am LOVED by GOD as much as any of YOU! If Hillary wins the nod I will vote for her, after all 87% of Blacks voted for Bill and stood up against his impeachment! No one can win without the Black vote either!

What do you call a “movement” that has 50% of the popular vote but spent 3X as much to get it. I think you call it a “farce”.

RealBlackMan, thank-you for your permission to not vote for Obama. You are a true elitist just like your ruler.

Posted by: GregH | May 11, 2008, 8:10 pm 8:10 pm

DRealBlackMan said: I had read some of these posts for about a month now. What I have learn is that the democratic party has some people who are racist to the core.
You are absolutely right. But don’t be too harsh on Obama. After 20 years listening to the racist black liberation theology of Rev. Wright, you can’t blame him for picking it up. Maybe a few years of “anti-racism detox” will help. Until then, the only sensible candidates are Hillary first, and if not her, then McCain.

Posted by: Eddie | May 11, 2008, 8:31 pm 8:31 pm

Hillary’s Down fall is simple: All through her Campaign, she did and said things that are “political correct”, not what was right…and it is this dishonesty of oppinion that has broght her to shambles. The downfall of Hillary is Hillary-dishonest and ruthless.

Posted by: T L | May 11, 2008, 8:31 pm 8:31 pm

I think it is pretty insulting for the leaders in the Democratic party to think that we all should readily accept Mr Obama just because he is their favorite. He does not represent most of the American views. He is disenfrancised at two-thirds of the people in this country with his elitist views and racist associations. As a life long Democrat, I’m beginning to think that the Harry Reids, Nancy Pelosis, Kennedy, and Kerrys needed to be voted out. They are out of touch with the Americans.

Posted by: stan | May 11, 2008, 10:41 pm 10:41 pm

So many interesting comments and so many truly pathetic comments (from both sides)… Look. I am a huge Clinton supporter and a life long dem. I am saddened by the prospect of Barack Obama’s candidacy NOT because he is a black man; indeed, I think that it is one of the most exciting aspects of his candidacy – that we might actually elect an African American… No, what saddens me is that this potentially fabulous candidate is inexperienced, and likely will lose in the GE, and could have brought so much more to the table with a few more years of real work under his belt and more time to distance himself from some of his poorer early decisions (rezko, ayers and Wright) Sorry folks, his campaign paid 4x the cash to win 135 extra delegates gained in caucus states where old people and working people didn’t participate. I was in Texas – I saw what the Obama volunteers did to “win” the caucuses… What a mess. At bottom, there is no real mandate here. He’s weak, he’s inexperienced and he (like hearing it or not) has associated himself with unsavory types with little real explanation giving the GOP everything they need to beat him. He is a talker and not a do-er… There are no material accomplishments in Obama’s resume that would lead us to believe he is ready for the awesome struggles ahead. I don’t believe the change theme — its bogus marketing sold to us by he media, which has been woefully biased against Clinton. I’m tired of listening to Obama people tell me that if I’m critical of their guy I must be a racist or somehow unenlightened. Yuck. In fact, really, its the Obama supporters who will have themselves to blame if their guy does not cross the finish line… their constant hum of personal vitriol against Clinton rather than any substantive and positive argument for their candidate has been a real turn off… IF you wanted the Clinton people on your Obama train the constant drum beat of anti Clinton whining won’t help bring people on board… Clinton was the stronger, more experienced, more centrist and less controversial candidate with broader appeal. I am lucky enough to live in Massachusetts, a state that likely will not go to McCain… So I will sit out this election because I do not believe in Mr. Obama, nor his candidacy for leader of the free world — even though I do think he has long term promise — he’s not ready yet. I will not vote for McCain because he is truly the wrong choice for America… And I probably will re-register as an Independent because I do not believe my beloved democratic party represents the interests of the broader party participants. If Obama wins the White House I will be thrilled for my country and for him because we will have broken one very important and steep barrier.. But I suspect his presidency will be plagued with mistakes caused by his early hubris and that he will never deliver the change he is selling. C’mon people “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for?” “the urgency of now”? Are you kidding? And they said Clinton was the panderer…

I am so pleased to see that so many people agree that Obama is not the person to be POTUS! And if the DNC thinks that this party will come together in the fall they are so sadly mistaken!!! Won’t they be surprised when the Republicans win in the fall! Between the sick media and the DNC they have succeeded in dividing this country and they both deserved to get it up their butts! Obama is a devious, lying devil who wants to turn this country black! His wife sounds like Rev Wright and the new pastor of their church is a twin of Rev Wright!! And Obama wants to make sure that all blacks get their “right of passage!! They all ready have “right of passage” they just never took advantage of it! Hillary 08 or McCain!

…and one other thing… I CANNOT wait to NOT VOTE for Ted Kennedy and John Kerry ever again… I don’t mind them choosing Obama…. But I am annoyed at their: 1) ignoring their own MA constituents while calling for other supers to “follow the will of the people..”; 2) early premptive calls for HRC to step out; 3) unwillingness to stand up for such basic democratic values as counting every vote in FL and MI; 4) the projection of their own flaws (pandering, negative campaigning, divisive politics) on Clinton while they pretend Obama never engaged in negative or divisive attacks toward Clinton; and 5) the callous comments of Kennedy suggesting that Clinton cannot appeal to the “nobler aspirations of the American people.” Golly Ted – what kind of nobility were you talking about? The kind that turns the other cheek every time you strayed from the noble path and re-elected you and protected you because we believed in you (despite the allegations of womanizing?) Never again. Done with you

stan: I agreed with you and have been sayng that for months. Harry Reids, Nancy Pelosis, Kennedy, and Kerrys needed to be voted out. We must make them understand it is not about the DNC it is about the protection of our country. And, I am black and do not support Obama.

Harry Reid is right, the Democratic party is benefiting from all the “Buzz” – the numbers are showing, however, The Clinton has to be held accountable for the Negative, Divisive campaign – they are giving the GOP ammunitions, to be used in the Presidental Campaign. The SUPERDELEGATES are making notes, they are seeing the same things we are, and more and will do what is right and fair and just for the Democrats and for all Americans, Some one should tell the Clinton, winning at all cost is not going to happen, it will cost them in the end. Sincerely, Lake Hart, a Native American Writer.

DEBSMA and CYVOTE2008: I agree. Since when did the Democratic Party become the party that engages in the disenfranchisement of millions of voters; the rationalization of racism; and the rule of the elite over the party rank and file. And after all that the party leadership has done to destroy our faith, they are going to have the nerve to ask us to “come together” behind Obama; ABSOLUTELY NO WAY! Dean, Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry and the other party dictators are going to have a big surprise in November, when their hand-picked messiah loses the general election due to a defection of voters from their own party. Finally, I agree that the leaders of this sham election should be held accountable when they too, are up for re-election.

cmycote 008,
What about the DNC you do not like – do you think Bill Clinton and his connections within the DNC would be silenced / they would be yelling louder than you and I. There is a reason for the present system, is it perfect? No, however, we cannot change it now. As a Democrat, I suggest that you get involved and make shore that your concerned is addressed. The Clintons have adequate representative at the DNC, they know the game better than most of us – however their Strategists and Spin-doctors have done them more harm than good, they have been too negative and divisive, Winning at all cost, has its consequence, and they will pay. At the end of the day all Democrats have to “Come Together” to keep the GOP at bay! Together we stand, divide we fall! Sincerely, Lake Hart, a Native American Writer.

Posted by: Lake Hart - A Native American Writer | May 11, 2008, 11:36 pm 11:36 pm

Dear Lake Hart
Respectfully – the mythology of “winning at all costs” and “negative and divisive” campaigning needs to stop. Clinton was a tough and tenacious campaigner for sure — but so was Obama and his campaign. Winning at all costs- how about throwing your personal mentor under the bus to win?? While Clinton pushed hard on substantive issues like Obama not being experienced (I would say she was dead on correct) Obama and his camp called her “flawed” (personal attack) and a monster (awful personal attack). The media gave Obama a walk and constantly played on HRC never giving her any quarter – she was either playing the victim or the witch and no in between. Please, stop spouting the same drivvle from the media… I agree we need to find a way to come together — that would be really swell because the last thing we need is McCain — but our leadership and particularly the DNC have not helped and the media has only confused the electorate more. People need to wake up…

Posted by: DebsMA | May 11, 2008, 11:54 pm 11:54 pm

Lake Hart: Your answer to my question is both general, and not consistent with the meaning of my question. I was asking; since when does the Democratic Party rationalize racism, meaning, that since when do we nominate a man/woman who is clearly racist. Now, in my lifetime, I do not recall such an event. I certainly have no recollection of a Presidential candidate who attended a racist church for 20 years, and considered its racist pastor to be his “mentor and spiritual adviser.” If I am incorrect, I’d love to hear about it. However, even if you believe that past Presidents were openly racist, it certainly doesn’t justify voting for Obama. After all, two wrongs don’t make a Wright (sorry, I couldn’t resist).

obama has not even finished half of his first senate term. he barely has any national political experience and no foreign policy experience. yet he wants to be president of the whole u.s. and all the people under our government.
i’m not really sure what he stands for, or who he really is…..i know who he represents himself as…..but is this a true picture?, i don’t know. he’s woefully underqualified. we don’t need an intern for president. these are serious times and we need someone who already has the qualifications.
Hillary or Mccain.

hm: You only made Obama look that much stronger. Your point is “wonderfully” made for such a time. Precisely because Clinton has so much more experience and yet most of America believes in and supports Obama than Hilary? I think you have unintentionally placed her in a bad light, not that she already isn’t in one now.

They are underestimating the resolve of Hillary’s supporters. I’ll either write her in, vote McCain or vote Nader. Never Obama. I’ve always voted Democrat previously. I am not represented in the new progressive democratic party.

Posted by: Mack | May 12, 2008, 1:22 am 1:22 am

Hillary as a write-in candidate? Sure, that’ll work. At this point, it’s her only chance for the Presidency, and it’ll be the only way for “the faithful” of her flock to vote for her in a national election. Let’s see, when was the last time a write-in candidate won a national election? Oh yeah, NEVER. Go ‘head, waste your vote and put McCain in the White House. Isn’t that just biting off your nose to spite your face?

Posted by: Namako OH3 | May 12, 2008, 1:51 am 1:51 am

For all of you still on the Michigan/Florida thing…THEY, not Obama, broke the rules and had their primaries early. They knew what they were doing, so now they suffer the consequences. Yes, couning them would strengthen Hillary’s case, but it would not completely reverse their positions, and would still move Obama slightly closer to the nomination.

I don’t understand the logic? If all is over by June, what is the point with conventions… Isn’t that like declaring a winner based on polls, not the election? Who are all these people that cannot wait to end before time!

Posted by: S Johnsen | May 12, 2008, 6:15 am 6:15 am

S Johnsen: Reported today on FoxNews, The DNC party (Howard Dean and Ted Kennedy) wants to end the race before the convention, because; it makes Obama looks bad to have Hillary points out his weakens. And, the DNC feels that she is trying to make him look bad in order to prove that the DNC should be concerned in the general election.

Harry Reid kindly be quite about making comments on playing the process out till June 3rd,2008 obviously none of you guys thought Barack Obama at the begining of election. And saying “President Clinton didn’t get the nomination until June 2nd. So, I think we should just relax a little bit.” That’s rubbish suggestion right there even mickey mouse knows Hillary Clinton losted nomination chance already they need to get over it instead of both of you fooling each other planning wise obama is better showing good leadership already.

There are democrats who WON’T vote if Obama is the nominee in November because he lacks political experience; his relations with Rezko, Ayers, Wright; his speeches using, and following others words without giving credit; his comment about bombing Pakistan; he’s too liberal; etc.

Just remember – Obama won those early states which are states the Democrats traditionally do NOT carry in the General Election. So, were Republicans voting for him because they thought he’d be easier to beat, or because they still have a beef with Hillary? And just because they voted for him months ago, doesn’t mean they will vote for him POST-Wright/Rezko/Weatherman scandals. Michelle’s comments have turned people away as well. His isn’t electable, and he isn’t the right man for the job. If he is the nominee (can’t imagine the Dems would shoot themselves in the foot like that) I will not vote for him. I won’t vote for McCain either, but I will certainly write in Hillary’s name on my ballot.

Zelda: I am voting for Hillary myself. Obama is so sure of himself being the nominee he is already campaigning against McCain. Hillary will win in WVA and KY plus PUERTO RICO. She has large leads in all three states. If she can capture Oregon there will be questions as to why Obama cannot win those states along with the battleground states. If MI and FL are seated she will match Obama and pass the popular vote. I am hope that the majority of the 275 superdelegates vote for Hillary and that should give her the nomination.

This is the first article that claims the democratic process has been good for the democrats. I thought they we’re in hiding whilst waiting for Obama to get their party started.
I have no further respect for the Democratic Party, they have participated with a lynch mob for Hillary.
