Are Women Shunning Obama? Pollster Says No
USA TODAY’s ‘On Politics’ blog reports: There’s been much written and You-Tubed about supporters of Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton who are having trouble making the switch to presumptive nominee Barack Obama — and say they may never. Or may never unless he puts Clinton on the ticket with him as vice president.
Are women a big problem for Obama? Maybe not. At least one poll shows rapid recent movement to Obama overall among Democrats, including women.
Pollster Scott Rasmussen says that as of today, based on 3,000 automated telephone surveys over the past three nights, Obama gets support from 52% of the women in his national tracking poll compared with 40% for presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. He says that’s better than Democrat John Kerry did with women against President Bush in 2004.
Scott attributes Obama’s performance to unification within the Democratic Party over the past few days. "Before last Tuesday, Obama routinely earned around 70% of vote from Democrats," he tells us in an e-mail. "He’s up to 81% today. Clearly the party has been coming together."
That said, the results this fall in individual states and in down-ballot races could turn on how enthusiastically Clinton’s followers embrace Obama.
Ana Cruz, co-founder of Florida for Hillary, tells USA TODAY’s Fredreka Schouten that female candidates could be hurt if Clinton’s supporters stay home. She says three female Democratic candidates are seeking congressional seats in Florida alone.
Cruz, a Tampa public-relations executive and a former executive director of the state Democratic Party, says she and other Clinton backers are looking for more detail from Obama. "People are going to want to hear specific policy initiatives," she tells Fredreka. "It’s talking to white, single mothers about affordable health care, the price of gas and the economy."
Obama embarked today on a two-week economic tour that will include a visit to Florida. Recent state polls show Obama trailing McCain.

You might want to consider that the core democrats have all been thrown
under the bus by Obama not just women. He ran a campaign that
disparaged the old, the gays, the women, the latinos, the “working
class’, the non college educated and more.
Maybe the name can reflect you are fighting for the soul/core/base of
the democratic party-as opposed to whatever Rev Wright/Obama is

his first day as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama made his first clear, serious mistake: He named Eric Holder as one of three people charged with vice-presidential vetting.
As deputy attorney general, Holder was the key person who made the pardon of Marc Rich possible in the final hours of the Clinton presidency.
Now, Obama will be stuck in the Marc Rich mess.
If ever there was a person who did not deserve a presidential pardon, it’s Marc Rich, the fugitive billionaire who renounced his U.S. citizenship and moved to Switzerland to avoid prosecution for racketeering, wire fraud, 51 counts of tax fraud, tax evasion (to the tune of $48 million), and illegal trades with Iran in violation of the US embargo following the 1979-80 hostage crisis.
Seventeen years later, Rich wanted a pardon, and he retained Jack Quinn, former counsel to the president, to lobby his old boss.
It was Holder who had originally recommended Quinn to one of Rich’s advisers, although he claims that he did not know the identity of the client.
And he gave substantive advice to Quinn along the way. According to Quinn’s notes that were produced to Congress, Holder told Quinn to take the pardon application “straight to the White House” because “the timing is good.”
And once the pardon was granted, Holder sent his congratulations to Quinn.
In 2002, a congressional committee reported that Holder was a “willing participant in the plan to keep the Justice Department from knowing about and opposing” the Rich pardon.
It is one thing to reach back to Obama’s pastor to raise doubts about his values. But it is quite another to scrutinize the record of his first appointee.
It couldn’t be a bigger mistake.

Obama Was Selected, Not Elected
Words mean nothing to liberals. They say whatever will help advance their cause at the moment, switch talking points in a heartbeat, and then act indignant if anyone uses the exact same argument they were using five minutes ago.
When Gore won the popular vote in the 2000 election by half a percentage point, but lost the Electoral College — or, for short, “the constitutionally prescribed method for choosing presidents” — anyone who denied the sacred importance of the popular vote was either an idiot or a dangerous partisan.
But now Hillary has won the popular vote in a Democratic primary, while Obambi has won under the rules. In a spectacular turnabout, media commentators are heaping sarcasm on our plucky Hillary for imagining the “popular vote” has any relevance whatsoever.
It’s the exact same situation as in 2000, with Hillary in the position of Gore and Obama in the position of Bush. The only difference is: Hillary has a much stronger argument than Gore ever did (and Hillary’s more of a man than Gore ever was).
Unbeknownst to liberals, who seem to imagine the Constitution is a treatise on gay marriage, our Constitution sets forth rules for the election of a president. Under the Constitution that has led to the greatest individual liberty, prosperity and security ever known to mankind, Americans have no constitutional right to vote for president, at all. (Don’t fret Democrats: According to five liberals on the Supreme Court, you do have a right to sodomy and abortion!)
Americans certainly have no right to demand that their vote prevail over the electors’ vote.
The Constitution states that electors from each state are to choose the president, and it is up to state legislatures to determine how those electors are selected. It is only by happenstance that most states use a popular vote to choose their electors.
When you vote for president this fall, you will not be voting for Barack Obama or John McCain; you will be voting for an elector who pledges to cast his vote for Obama or McCain. (For those new Obama voters who may be reading, it’s like voting for Paula, Randy or Simon to represent you, instead of texting your vote directly.)
Any state could abolish general elections for president tomorrow and have the legislature pick the electors. States could also abolish their winner-take-all method of choosing presidential electors — as Nebraska and Maine have already done, allowing their electors to be allocated in proportion to the popular vote. And of course there’s always the option of voting electors off the island one by one.
If presidential elections were popular vote contests, Bush might have spent more than five minutes campaigning in big liberal states like California and New York. But under a winner-take-all regime, close doesn’t count. If a Republican doesn’t have a chance to actually win a state, he may as well lose in a landslide. Using the same logic, Gore didn’t spend a lot of time campaigning in Texas (and Walter Mondale campaigned exclusively in Minnesota).
Consequently, under both the law and common sense, the famed “popular vote” is utterly irrelevant to presidential elections. It would be like the winner of “Miss Congeniality” claiming that title also made her “Miss America.” Obviously, Bush might well have won the popular vote, but he would have used a completely different campaign strategy.
By contrast, there are no constitutional rules to follow with party primaries. Primaries are specifically designed by the parties to choose their strongest candidate for the general election.
Hillary’s argument that she won the popular vote is manifestly relevant to that determination. Our brave Hillary has every right to take her delegates to the Democratic National Convention and put her case to a vote. She is much closer to B. Hussein Obama than the sainted Teddy Kennedy was to Carter in 1980 when Teddy staged an obviously hopeless rules challenge at the convention. (I mean rules about choosing the candidate, not rules about crushed ice at after-parties.)
And yet every time Hillary breathes a word about her victory in the popular vote, TV hosts respond with sneering contempt at her gaucherie for even mentioning it. (Of course, if popularity mattered, networks like MSNBC wouldn’t exist. That’s a station that depends entirely on “superviewers.”)
After nearly eight years of having to listen to liberals crow that Bush was “selected, not elected,” this is a shocking about-face. Apparently unaware of the new party line that the popular vote amounts to nothing more than warm spit, just last week HBO ran its movie “Recount,” about the 2000 Florida election, the premise of which is that sneaky Republicans stole the presidency from popular vote champion Al Gore. (Despite massive publicity, the movie bombed, with only about 1 million viewers, so now HBO is demanding a “recount.”)
So where is Kevin Spacey from HBO’s “Recount,” to defend Hillary, shouting: “WHO WON THIS PRIMARY?”
In the Democrats’ “1984″ world, the popular vote is an unconcept, doubleplusungood verging on crimethink. We have always been at war with Eastasia.

It is Propaganda put out by the Obama camp.
They want to have a reason to blame and someone to blame when he loses the election. Woman and Hillary, it is called a set up. Damage control before the damage they fore see.
Hillary got over half of the democratic votes, they were from a variety of people. Men, woman, students, Blacks and minorities.
The voters were the main part of the democratic party.
Obama won the Blacks and minoritiers, some woman and men, and New voters.
Obama camp is throwing it out there so they can blame hillary if he loses.
Polls, unless the are private telephone polls can not count. Obama has a list of polls for his supports to vote in every day in his favor or what he wants them to. Readily available on his site.

I’m guessing you guys are in the 19 percent of the party who Rasmussen found to not be supporting Obama yet, lol.
I think Obama’s chances are looking pretty strong for the fall. He was usually slightly ahead to even with McCain in polling, back when 70 percent of Democrats would back him in a notional match-up. Now that 81 percent of Democrats back him, he’s that much stronger.
But that aside, its still independents who decide elections, and both major parties have nominated their strongest candidate with independents, so in that view this one is a battle of the titans.

Once again the MSM comes to rescue their golden boy — is this familiar? before the super Tuesday, so many polls came out suggesting Obama was winning, creating this psychology that the wind the was pushing him, he was inevitable.
But this kind of tactics are no longer working? Obama has problem with women, I have talked to so many of my friends and am convinced. At this point, we all know that his big-rally, by which the media is trying to make him a God, is no longer an indicator that people will vote for him. The more people know about him, the less impressed they are with him. After March 4, he won fewer states, fewer votes (almost half million) than Clinton. He lacks substance, and he is so inexperienced, he just can not live up to the standard — how many gaffes he had uttered after March 4th? Many of them showed he is very ignorant about important international affairs and domestic issues — His AIPAC speech is just a recent one. From now on to November, there will be more evidence showing that. It is hard to pretend to be something that you are not, Mr. Obama. I will not vote for him this November, and 15 of my friends will not vote for him either.

Hillary could plead, Obama could pay AND I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR HIM. There will be millions of women who will just not get in line, like good little girls and vote for the inferior candidate because he’s been shoved down our throats by liberal media and party big wigs! Sorry…..I will be WORKING for Senator McCain in Sept. to get him elected. I know they were worried about college kids and blacks rioting if Obama didn’t get the nom (by being pushed over the finish line by super dels), but there will be a “quiet riot” in the voting booth when women all over this country show their power in numbers by electing McCain our 44th President! Hillary won popular vote and I think she should jump parties as Republicans have a winner take all nomination process, and I believe after this year the Dems will revamp their process. WOMEN FOR HILLARY, NOW SUPPORT McCAIN!!!! Do not stay home, do not do a write in….don’t waste your vote…..VOTE McCAIN 11/3.

Look at his IL senate record, look at his IL district, look at his associations — I am not a one to be easily fooled by words. Show me his records!!!
Any one who dares to challenge his past and his actions is considered smearing him . How long can you use those tactics to shut people’s mouth? not long.
Obama is building a base that is very similar to what Kerry did in 2004. Kerry couldn’t win by relying on public dissatisfaction toward Bush. Obama will be even worse — he carries so many serious problems, his associations, his extremely liberal records, and his former church. He can not even unite his own party. He will loose for sure. I am glad to make that happen.

I voted for Obama to get rid of Hillary in MN!
If you idiots think Obama really won , you must be really STUPID!
We republicans trapped the democratic Party!
Hillary had been the strongest candidate from, March 4th on.Hillary won nine out of the last 15 primaries.
and won 458 out of the 867 pledged delegates.
Hillary`s most significant win came on June 3 in South Dakota. The last day of the primary season. The primary was only open to democrats and Hillary won pulling an upset. Democrats voted for Hillary by a 10 point margin even though they knew that Obama was going to be the nominee. They were sending a message to the Democratic party that they did not want Obama as the party nominee.
Also Hillary was stronger in the polls v. Mccain than Obama..
At this point the Super Delegates, as the socalled wise men of the party, should have supported Clinton who was clearly their strongest candidate . However the Super Delegates abdicated their responsibility and supported Obama. As a result the Democrats have not nominated their strongest candidate.

The obama supporters have nothing to prove their man’s qualification, and now they can only chant “we believe…”, “Obama will…”. Belief will not bring out about the outcome you want.
2004, I was in my Ph.d. program, and on campus there was so much talk about Kerry will win. People made predictions, all the MSM was doing exactly the same thing they are doing today – how the world welcomes Kerry, how the other countries like him, on and on. I was totally convinced that he would win, as the democratic party was so unified then. Yet, he lost big. Obama is doing even worse – and this time, he can not even convince his own party members that he is legitimately elected, not selected. I voted for Kerry, and many of my friends did the same thing, and we even celebrated before the final votes were counted. And we were totally shocked when the result came out that Bush won again!
This time, I am staying at home. Many of my friends who voted for Kerry last time will vote for McCain or stay at home too. There is no way that these poll numbers can convince me that Obama will win. I may be even happy to help make a Obama defeat happen this time – if that is necessary, although I haven’t made my final decision. But the Obama supporters are surely pushing me to that direction.

It was Obama who benefited from the woman bashing American media! Our so called hero never said a word against it! Did Kerry or Kennedy say a word about the way the media treated Sen. Hillary Clinton? No, none.
Get used to President John McCain!
What’s happed at the Democratic Presidential Primary race was a true tragedy for Sen. Hillary Clinton and for our country if not for the entire world. Meanwhile The Democratic super-delegates have abandoned their role as party leaders, for the purpose they were exactly created for. They were paralyzed and dysfunctional lot, most of them without a backbone, full of sentimentalities, various kinds of social and cultural justifications but unsuited make tough decisions that our country needs. You saw them in session in Washington DC last weekend. Did you ask yourself the question, are these are the cream of sum-collective of our political leadership of the Democratic Party? Not being able to vote against Sen. Barack Obama─ afraid it would be considered “racist” ─Democratic Party leaders and super-delegates have let unelectable Sen. Obama as their party’s nominee. But this is unfortunate because Sen. Obama can’t win against Sen. John McCain. We all knew that. Sen. Obama’s base of support is too narrow, having won most of delegates through caucus states. Not having won a single major state and not being able to get the support of wide segments of voters Sen. Obama is unelectable. It would be helpful to anyone who doubts this hypothesis to read “Vote by Numbers” column by an astrophysicist named Neil DeGrasse Tyson on 6-6-08 in the New York Times. It says, “If the general election were held today, Barack Obama would lose to John McCain, while Mr. McCain would lose to Mrs. Clinton. This conclusion comes not from wishful thinking but from a new method of analysis of statistics of polls that has been accepted for publication in the journal of Mathematical and Computer Modeling. The authors, J. Richard Gott III, a professor at Princeton and Wes Colley, a researcher at the University at Alabama in Huntsville, are not politicians. They are astrophysicists. And one of the tasks of scientists is to clarify the apparent complexity of the universe by using the language of mathematics… ” I don’t think we needed a these scientists to tell us what’s going to happen in November. This situation is not going to change. The Democratic Super-delegates with the helped the American media are electing Sen. John McCain as our next president. We can look forward to a George Bush’s third term in November 08. Get used to it.

It is not about the causes yet, because before you can say you are working for some causes you have to convince people that you have to the ability and the credentials to make thing happen. So, first thing it is about “Qualification”, about presidency being something you work hard to “EARN” — Obama has nothing !!! He simply used tactics to steal the nomination — of course this is a personal opinion, but I tell you, there are a lot of people who hold this opinion. With more and more gaffes from Obama, and every time I saw him speak, I was like how on earth we ended up with some one so lousy?
McCain, is the best republican we can get in fact. He is not so conservative – his records have already shown that. In many ways, he is better than Obama. I am pro-choice, but I can not stand Obama’s infantcile. I do not oppose gay marriage, but I can not stand Obama’s blanket opposition to the family protection act. He is just too extreme. How I wish Hillary could be the one.

Pnar – no explanation needed. I see exactly what you’re saying. You supported Hillary because of _____________ and so you will vote for the candidate who has oppossed her every step of the way on every vote that counted. Sure – you’re a HRC supporter. I have met some very angry, very silly people who say they will now vote for the Republican nominee. But in their hearts, they never supported Hillary – just the idea of a woman President.

Rasmussen polls are not believable. They have decided to give the elections to Obama and they would tell anything, including lies, to support him. According to Rasmussen, for example, Obama was winning by 20% in some of the states where Hillary won by big margins. So, since they already took out Hillary, now they are focusing in McCain. It will not work. Some women may move to Obama, but the majority of Hillary supporters, women and men included, will never vote for him. We will write in Hillary or vote McCain.

If it comes to worse,
I’d rather 4 more years of Bush than changing the fundamentals of the constitution!
Obama will turn America to a communist country!
I also do not believe Mccain will be as bad as Bush!

I am a democratic, latina woman, and I can tell you that I believe some of the women who are writing on this blog claiming they’ll vote for McCain before they vote for Hillary are truly Republicans trying to pass as Democrats.
I’m telling you right now, my women democrat friends and co-workers are all voting for Obama. There is aboslutely NO talk about anger because Hillary lost. So I can only conclude that this is being steered up by the media, but doesn’t reflect TRUE WOMEN DEMOCRATS.
But in the off-chance that there are some women democrats who are emotional over Hillary losing…remember this…
Hillary doesn’t even know you exist. When was the last time she bought you a cup of coffee, or she filled your gas tank, or she bought your groceries. SHE IS NOT THE ONLY DEMOCRAT that can help you…the DEMOCRATIC PARTY as a whole is who you have to support, because no matter what you may think…we cannot afford 4 more years of this dying economy or 4 more years of our soldiers dying in a war that never should have been waged.
SO think with your heads, WOMEN DEMOCRATS! Like Hillary, herself said, the stakes are too high!
But for those of you who will still be stubborn and choose McCain over the democrats…All I can say is that maybe you’ve got other social issues you will never get over and I just hope that there are very few of you because at this time, in our society, we can’t afford a place for you…and you know what kind of social issues I’m talking about.

By the way, women, be aware of the stupid argument about the appointment of court justices by McCain as the argument to vote for Obama. CONGRESS IS THE ONE WHO CONFIRMS THE NOMINEE, AND WE HAVE A DEMOCRAT MAJORITY IN CONGRESS; SO NO, McCAIN WILL NOT APPOINT ANY JUSTICES not approved by Democrats. Topher…you’re wrong about everyone voting for policies first. Country first….you vote the best person to lead our country….party promises second!
Hillary should not and will not be VP (thank God)….she would be blamed if he lost..and she shouldn’t give him her supporters! They are Americans first and not supportive of anything Obama stands for in his associations with the wrong people, which WILL be revisited by the Republicans.
DON’T SIT IT OUT OR DO A WRITE IN ……VOTE McCAIN! Send a message loud and clear…Hillary supporters made the switch and women are the majority in this country…make our numbers COUNT!

I can NOT vote for Obama because
1) The way he conducts his campaign
2) His lack of experience
3) His associations with Wright, Plfeger, Rezko, hatem El Hady, Rhasid Khalidi, Farrakhan and Ayers.
4) His insane tax increases compare to Hillary Clinton!

The funny thing is the only dirt Republicans and pundits have on Obama is not dirt on Obama at all.
They can’t find anything significant wrong with Obama so they just try their hardest to tie him to controversial people.
Obama is his own person. Now, if something controversial is reflected in his personal behavior (I.E. McCain’s adultery (a sin by the way), McCain’s shady financial dealings “Keating Five” and the such. These personal ethical shortcomings warrant much more concern than tying Obama to someone else’s behavior. Obviously, if Obama himself said some of these things or committed some of these acts, it would be different.
The Political idiots want you to believe false lies because it makes for good TV and talk radio.
And some really racist comments on this and other discussion threads.

Time will heal whatever wounds are left in the Democratic Party. They are relatively superficial and given a good convention with respect given to Hillary Clinton and her campaign, by September you will have a pretty united party.
I am less sure about how united the Republicans will be. You wonder how McCain can keep the right of hos party, of all types, on side, whilst appealing to independents. I can foresee a messy convention in St Paul, and a fractured party through the Fall. Or a united GOP going down to heavy defeats across the board from the Presidential election downwards.

Most Dems, Hillary supporters are likely to vote BO, however all the Hillary supporters I know will not vote at all. I know many as I volunteered and became friends/acquantance of many who continue to stay in touch; trust me, they are #######. It is a protest against the DNC and MSM coverage.

First of all, I have never post a comment like this before. Obama did not decide to be a black on his own. Our creator did that rather you like the creator or not. It’s so much easier to open your heart and give the man a change. Get pass the color of his skin. Hate only hurts you and our country. It’s going to be OK. Everything in life can and will not go our way. If you really support Hillary and you want her voice to be heard, humble yourself and let it go. We could be part of a country with no privileges at all. You will never be free until you let go inside your own heart and think what life would be like for you if your skin just happened to be black. Blacks are people too and we truly have some strong abilities to perform just like other races of people. Let it go. Trash the hate and you, your families and others will be much better people. I’m just a black woman name Barbara

I don’t remember a divided democratic party before the 2004 election, and look how that turned out.
Posted by: Mack | June 9, 2008, 3:10 pm 3:10 pm
There are millions of women who will not vote BO – no matter what. (Sorry Hillary) I think the Dem Party are overestimating their chances of moving women to support BO. Women are primarily emotional and won’t be swayed by a logical argument (that doesn’t stack up). We believe HRC is the best person for president and a ‘selected’ not elected stand-in won’t surfice.
I will never vote Obama, and it’s not because of the colour of his skin or that he’s a man. It’s because it would be against my principles to vote for a man I believe lacks substance. If you do your own research and don’t listen to the one-sided media reporting you will find this out for yourself.
Hillary, I havne’t given up hope of you being president in 2008. If destiny has ear-marked the job for you, you’ll get it.
Posted by: mary | June 9, 2008, 3:12 pm 3:12 pm
WE will not be voting at all. After what the democratic party pulled; anyone with half a brain would not vote. Everyone in my family, (and that includes dads, brothers, sisters, grandma’s, moms, nieces, nephews, husbands, etc.) absolutely will NOT VOTE AT ALL. We were democrats for many years, but now we feel we have no party. We just hope Hillary will run again in 2012. But until then–we are all changing our registration to independents. We have had enough. For all of us, the election is over.

hey Jack,
I agree with you,
Couple more to add though,
5) Obama is a flip -flop,
He changes his positions
7) Obama’s foregin policy is unclear, he wants to meet with Iran, cuban and N, korean Leaders
8) Obama’s health care is worse than John McCain’s!
9) I can NOt imagine Obama’s unAmerican wife as our first lady!

Such an insulting mistake to think that Hillary supporters are racists. That is part of the problem with the Obama camp. There are people who realize Hillary was a better candidate and as a black Puerto Rican, his skin color could have been purple for all I care. He plays dirty and fakes as though he doesn’t. Hillary was totally ripped off, and I like others will never forget the sexism she experienced during it all. This Dem is no longer loyal to the SEXIST DEMS.

I don’t know which polls you are viewing. People usually like the ones that reflect their wishes. Check this one out that shows Obama getting more than enough electoral votes to win in November. This will only get worse for mc-more-war once people start comparing the two. Obama 2008!!!

Debra,
Good policies are what guide our country forward and bad policies set our country back and give it direction. Bad policies created the economic downturn we are in. Bad policies senselessly sent over 4,000 of our best and brightest to their deaths.
Continuing the Bush economic and Iraq War agenda as McCain wants to do will only multiply the problems our country is currently facing.
You’re right it is country first. Our country is a great country where everyone should have a shot at the American Dream, not just the wealthy and well connected.
We cannot let the current policies continue under McCain. Our Country deserves better. We all deserve better.

ARE YOU LADIES REALLY THAT PISSED OFF THAT HILLARY DIDN’T WIN, THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO GO THROUGH ANOTHER 4 YEARS OF THIS HELL ON EARTH WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ALL BECAUSE YOUR CANDIDATE OF CHOICE DIDN’T WIN? COME ON LADIES GET OVER YOUR STUBBORNESS AND JUMP ON THE ISSUES THAT REALLY MATTER BECAUSE IF YOU DONT CHOOSE HIM, HE’S NOT GOING TO BE THE ONE SUFFERING. WE WILL BECAUSE WE ELECTED ANOTHER STUPID PRESIDENT ALL BECAUSE OUR SELECTED CHOICE DIDN’T WIN. HE AND HILLARY AND THE SAME ON JUST ABOUT EVERY ISSUE. OBAMA WON IT FAIR AND SQUARE. HE WAS TAKEN THROUGH MUCH MORE THAN HILLARY IN THIS CAMPAIGN AND THAT SHOULD SHOW EVERYBODY WHAT TYPE OF FIGHTER HE IS BECAUSE THROUGH ALL THAT HE STILL CAME ON TOP SO ALL OF YOU CAN CONTINUE TO BE BITTER AND PUT UP WITH 4 MORE YEARS OF THIS SAME CRAP, OR YOU CAN PUT YOUR DIFFERENCE ASIDE AND DO WHAT YOU KNOW IS RIGHT FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

No.
Where do you get your polls.
Obama and McCain were tied last week. Hillary had a lead of 1 or maybe 2 at times.
Now that Hillary is gone, he leads by 6 in both the Rasmuseen Poll (more conservative poll) and the Gallup (more liberal poll)
The fact is he’s leading. Slowly but surely Clinton backers are shifting to the Obama train.

Bush is NOT McCain, and no one buys that. McCain crosses party lines which is why he’ll be a great Pres. Thank God, Obama will never run again after he loses (no liberal Dem ever gets a chance to run again…only centrist Bill got to do that twice and WIN). This nominating process will be revamped after Obama loses in Nov, and Hillary will be able to run again in 2012 after McCain’s term.
Women have great memories, and will not forget this sham of an Obama nomination. My only fear is that liberal media will shove Obama down our throats daily, until, people start believing the hype and vote the next American Idol. His rock star gatherings, I find repulsive and for his sake, I hope that reliable, dependable youth voting block turns out for him, because they have so much knowledge and life experience going for them.

Obama Says That He Opposed Palestinian Elections In 2006. Obama: “There is no room at the negotiating table for terrorist organizations. That is why I opposed holding elections in 2006 with Hamas on the ballot. The Israelis and the Palestinian Authority warned us at the time against holding these elections, but this administration pressed ahead. And the result is a Gaza controlled by Hamas, with rockets raining down on Israel.” (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks At The Annual AIPAC Policy Conference, Arlington, VA, 6/4/08)
But During His 2006 Trip To The Middle East, Obama Met With Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas And Said The Election Represented An “Opportunity…To Consolidate Behind A Single Government.” “Illinois Senator Barack Obama’s journey to the Middle East took him to the West Bank Thursday for a meeting with the man elected to replace Yasser Arafat. … ‘Part of the opportunity here with this upcoming election is to consolidate behind a single government with a single authority that can then negotiate as a reliable partner with Israel,’ said Obama.” (Chuck Goudie, “Obama Meets With Arafat’s Successor,” ABC 7 News)

Another flip-flop The way things and being flipped you would think we were at the IHOP:
Obama Has Pivoted In His Opposition To Legislation Labeling Iran’s Revolutionary Guard A Terrorist Organization:
Obama Has Been Inconsistent In His Views On Labeling Iran’s Revolutionary Guard A Terrorist Organization. “Obama’s campaign suddenly discovered that their man–despite having spent the last nine months campaigning on his opposition to Kyl-Lieberman–’has consistently urged that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard be labeled what it is: a terrorist organization.’ Well, not that consistently. Senator Obama has been scrupulously careful not to call explicitly for designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. Now, however, with the Democratic nomination almost in hand, Obama feels comfortable telling a pro-Israel audience what it wants to hear.” (Danielle Pletka, “Obama’s Pander Pivot,” Weekly Standard, 6/4/08)
“[T]he Audience At AIPAC Might Ask Why Senator Obama Has Pivoted From Opposition To ‘Lieberman-Kyl’ To Support For The IRGC Designation His Audience Demands. Is This Really Change They Can Believe In?” (Danielle Pletka, “Obama’s Pander Pivot,” Weekly Standard, 6/4/08)
“Which Barack Obama Will Be The Democratic Standard-Bearer: The One Who Vowed To ‘Eliminate’ The Iranian Nuclear Threat Two Days Ago, Or The One Who Opposed Designating The Revolutionary Guards A Terrorist Organization?” (Editorial, “Obama And Iran,” The Washington Times, 6/6/08)

You know one thing the polls don’t take into account is how many millions of new Democratic voters Obama has mobilized compared to McCain. McCain has no grassroots organization to mobilize and recruit new voters and many conservative Libertarian leaning voters will not vote for McCain. To the disappointment of all the Republican bloggers posing as scorned Hillary supporters here, Obama’s going to win by millions in November. Get ready for change!! The government of the people, by the people and FOR the people will rise once again!!!

And for those of you saying that Obama will raise our taxes – you are forgetting that we will be getting out of Iraq, which is a billions of dollars a day endeavor, plus getting rid of tax breaks to the wealthiest and also government subsidies for the oil companies. Some of the money we WON’T be spending on that will be diverted to solve problems here at home, which is exactly what most Americans want.
We want to build a nation here not in Iraq.

Dukakis was ahead by 17% at this time against a very popular Republcian white house and Bush Sr.
Mondale, Dukakis, Gore and Kerry all got within the moe of 95% of the black vote.
Obama being ahead by 3% on average is 14% behind Dukakis, more experienced, and less liabilities and a better debater.
The numbers are not looking good for Obama.

carpenter.nyc, I admire that. I’m a woman who does what she pleases as well. I understand that many Clinton supporters are upset. It was a tough battle all around. But just as I won’t judge Hillary Clinton by the haters on this blog, Obama shouldn’t be judged by those who say hateful things on here on his behalf. This is a small group of screamers who comment hatefully on every article, regardless of the topic. What I find out in the real world is very different. Don’t let yourself be incited to do less than your candidate asks of you. You will be letting her down.

I guess a Hillary supporter who is ready and willing to vote for Iraq, is not affected by the US economy, job losses, gas prices or the war in Iraq.
Odd though, isn’t it, that Obama’s position on nearly everything is the SAME as Clinton’s.
So the point of voting for McCain??
Have you heard the saying “cut your nose off to spite your fact?”
What good will come from Hillary’s supporters suddenly saying – ok, my candidate lost so now I really don’t mind the war, the gas costs, the job losses or the mortage crisis. I only cared about solving those issues when a woman was running.

Mack, oh I got the memo. However, it is my belief that a split in our party will lead to a win in November by Republicans and because I put my country far ahead of any party, I cannot and will not be a part of it. Look at 2004, Ralph Nadar took away just enough of the percentage and we have been saddled with George Bush every since then. Wake up people, no candidate is perfect. They all flip flop and tell you what you want to hear. But in the end I believe Obama loves his country and wants to bring a change the likes of which we may never have seen before. If your choice is to stay home, or vote for McCain or Obama. Is their really any question what is right for our country?

Clinton and all women democrats deserved better than what you people gave her and us, says Lynn.
First, not all women voted for Hillary. That’s what the women’s movement gave us, a choice. I chose differently than you. Other women did, too. Please do not speak for me.
Second, I agree that Clinton deserved better. So did Obama. Politics is nasty business. I still feel dirty from the primary campaign, don’t you?
Third, what you do with your anger is the most important question. No matter who you want to vote for in the GE, go do something positive in the world to change things for the better. Whether that is to volunteer to counsel young women or to work for a more equitable primary system in your state, use your energy to do good!

To all Hillary Clinton supporters…
If you are considering voting for McCain because you feel he is the best candidate remaining for President, God bless and go ahead. I disagree, but I can at least respect your vote. if, however, you are considering voting for McCain because Obama is the one who beat your candidate (and yes, it was fair and square), think about these things:
- How many more of our sons and daughters will die in Iraq because you threw a hissy fit in the election booth?
-How many more people will suffer due to lack of health care because of your pathetic selfishness?
- How many more people will lose their jobs, homes, and livlihoods due to the economic policies of a man who admitted he didn’t know squat about such things but won the election because you acted like 5 year old who got put on time out?
Yeah, go right ahead and vote for McCain because your candidate lost and you want to really show ‘em. Then, 4 years from now, when you are jumping up and down for Hillary Clinton to run, take a moment and consider the cost paid in human life and suffering for her having a chance in 2012. In the meantime, I hope you don’t lose your job…or home…or retirement…….or health…or a loved one…because of your fit of pique. If you do, I hope you can handle the nightmares…

To the victor goes the spoils. Minorities have been discriminated far too long in employment because of their skin color. Obama will help remedy this by filling as many government jobs as possible with minorities. Affirmative Action has been drastically reduced under Bush. It needs to be expanded, and Obama will do just that.

America should be a the land of opportunity. Opportunity has been denied to people of color because of the color of their skin. This is why Obama will protect and expand Affirmative Action, and why minorities are concerned about McCain eliminating Affirmative Action. America is coming around, but there are still many white Americans who discriminate against minorities because of the color of their skin. Obama will bring real change to America by using Affirmative Action to fill as many government jobs as possible to people of color. This is as it should be, since people of color is rock solid behind Obama, and they deserve to be rewarded for their unwavering support.

grannie i have kids in arizona. i live in nm. i will list for you why i like mccain. 1) i agree with his moderate protect our borders but humane treatment for immigrants policy (i am hispanic this matters to me). he risked loosing a HUGE segment of his foaming at the mouth racist republican base by advocating for what he refers to as ‘children of God’ and our neighbors. his words. 2) when his son returned from iraq as he was announcing his intent to run in this election he did not parade his son to gain support from republicans i respect that. 3) he has adopted children from foregin countries and also his step-children who all adore him .4) he attends the same church my daughter does in phx and i trust her judgement as well. so yes i do find some attributes that i appreciate in this man. although i may not completely agree with him on all fronts. and no i never vote for a savior. unlike obamas mom who went on foodstamps while in college i worked parttime and went to school full time while raising 2 kids by myself. i don’t vote for saviors. i work and save myself. i vote for human beings with whom i happen to agree with on some issues. and whom i trust to take care of business with my tax dollars.

Can’t wait til comparisons are made with Obama’s 3 year Senate seat (equaling about 150 days on Senate floor)…most of which he has spent his time campaigning! Of course he votes “present” over 130 times (Hillary and Edwards hammered him on this).
Obama likes to tie himself to Caroline Kennedy for comparisons to her father, but her father was a 12 year Senator…big difference if experience…and he was raised eating, drinking and breathing politics. Obama has had a heavy influence in Black Liberation Theology, Muslim teachings, and dead beat dads (he had two of them).
Kennedy comparison is so off base.

If Hillary is such a good leader why did she run such a bad campaign? She had superdelegates, money, national name recognition, and considered to be a lock for the nomination. Thus what kind of leader would she be given that she took a huge lead and advantage into the primary and lost? What would be like as a President?? All she had to do was participate in the caucuses and she would have won – just one of many mistakes a qualified leader would not make.
Posted by: democratfor08 | June 9, 2008, 9:29 pm 9:29 pm
Gender really shouldn’t be such an important issue in the presidential primaries. I am a woman and I believe that Hillary Clinton’s failure cannot be attributed to media sexism, but rather her own incompetency. That women have not yet gotten to the White House is not reflective of a gender “barrier”, and anyhow, women have long achieved equality in this nation. America is ready for a woman president, and has always been, it’s just that no woman has ever run a solid enough campaign in the primaries. Many women in this country have the potential to one become a presidential nominee, and that does NOT include Hillary Clinton. She represents the old ways of Washington and eveything that America needs to believe in.

After 8 years of Bush, if we elect McCain then we really are a very stupid country. They have the same policies. We are not the super power we once were. We are a laughing stock. This is embarrassing and shameful that we could be making another mistake by voting for another republican.

TJ- “hissy fit,” “pathetic selfishness,” “acted like 5 year old who got put on time out,” “fit of pique” – NOT helpful. When BO campaign supporters engage in divisive conduct, the resulting division is your responsibility. It is not the duty of people who have repeatedly been subjected to alienating language and conduct to not complain and pledge fealty. If women “are valued, then they should not be demeaned—and if they are demeaned, they should not be expected to pretend it does not matter.” [from Melissa McEwan]

It’s silly to believe the results of just one poll. Everyone knows you can pick a poll to reflect whatever your point of view is. I was an avid supporter of Clinton’s and I have not jumped on board for either candidate. I say let’s see who ends of being the best person for the job. The election is months away.

Irma, I agree with all your clear observations, but Obama will not get my vote mo matter the VP choice. Hillary will not be it because Caroline is one of three on the committee to pick. She is just a stand-in for Ted. A committee will make it look like it was a diligent search, but we know better. If he is drastically low in the polls later, it’s possible, but “they” do not like her.
Hillary was the best candidate, McCain second. I do not have to rubber stamp the so-called “democratic” party anymore. Debra,
Because this time the Republican is an old bumbling fool, that can’t give a speech and can’t remember where he is half of the time.
Plus did I mention his questionable past? Let’s all talk about the “Keating 5″ and how about that flip-flopping, and that darned temper of his…
Wow and besides that how about wanting to continue a war that 80% of America is against. Oh and I forgot he wants to eliminate a womans right to choose as well…
Hmm, I just don’t know how an intelligent man like Obama is ever going to win against Grandpa Alzheimer’s and his fierce band of bloggers. That is if they can ever figure out how to “run” that new fangled computer they got from their grand kids for Christmas!
Ya, it is really going to be some match up you idiot!
Check the polls at RCP, Obama is ahead by almost 10 points and this thing is just getting started fool!!!
Ha, ha, ha, ha!!!
Obama/Webb 08!!!

Did anyone here Obama just say that he wants people to be able to claim kids on their taxes until they are 25 years old?
Is he serious?
Is healthcare speech was awful very scripted and the Q & A session was just him rambling. He seemed very uncomfortable. Yet the CNN spin was flattering him as usual.
People don’t let the media choose your president. They did this with Bush. In hindsight, the media darling was always the bad choice.
Hillary supporters vote for McCain.
McCain 08′

Ladies the choice is simple, you will have a President that will allow you to make choices concerning your body or a President that is committed to taking those choices away.
All due Respect. If she hadn’t been married to President Clinton, Hillary Rodham doesn’t get elected anywhere. Her agenda as first lady has been shown to be overstated at best, even she stopped using it as a base of experience. She got out campaigned.

I, like many supporters loved having William Jefferson Clinton as President. The fact that the Republicans were tripping all over themselves trying to get him on anything and everything to end his Presidency and they failed, made my support of the Clintons that much stronger. How nice to have people like Bill and Hillary who really stand up to certain forces and accomplish most of what they promise for the people. Our admiration and respect is deep because we know them and the good that they are capable of in spite of vigorous attacks to stop them. Hillary’s toughness amongst the unprecidented calls for her to quit made my support grow deeper. Naturally I want her on the ticket regardless of what a “dead end” job people think VP is; Hillary will surely redefine the role as only she could and our country would be better for it.

I am a 64-yr-old woman and have been an Obama supporter from the very beginning. See no reason to change. Certainly I would not for an old geezer such as grandpa McCoy. You have got to be kidding me. Are we still that dumbed down, America? I would actually pity the poor man if he weren’t such a joke.
Obama could never, ever screw us over as badly as the Repubs have and if you have 2 brain cells to rub together I need not elaborate as to how and how badly. Let me count the ways! (Heavy on the sarcasm!) Puhleeze!!

I will never vote for someone who was so terrible towards Hillary during the primary season! He played the “race card” on her, but she never played the “gender card” on him! That’s what Obama wants all along is to “justify” himself as being the first Black President, if he thinks it’s something about who’s turn next, it will definitely not be Obama who has absolutely no experience in anything except following advices from his anti-American (anti-white) friends (like Wright, and William Arye) for the past 20 years! His past voting records (if any) have been the most left-wing extremist votes! He’s not here to bring people together! I sure HATE to see Wright to be invited for White House Sunday breakfast prayer! I doubt that he has dis-own his “uncle”! He just said that to win the nomination! Oh God Bless America! Please don’t let him win! We all girls should united this time NOT voting for Obama!

I may appear that the party is coming together when in reality, many have already left it. The only ones that will be left are the Obama supporters.

As women, we WILL vote McCain and NEVER support Obama. Stop assuming women will roll over and follow the leadership of the Democratic Party who betrayed Hillary. McCain 2008; Hillary 2012

Obama cannot win . He will not be a good president. Who’s OBAMA? we don’t know him and never heard about him . He is a joke…running 100.00000 places a day trying to convince Hillary’s voters. Obama does not have any experience I think some people are telling him what to tell the voters..he doesn’t care about the Country, he’s just self centered and selfish …he wants fame and money…I’m white and my husband is black we don’t agree with him in many ways.

ALL moderate DEMs need to vote for a moderate candidate – that candidate is John McCain. ALL self-respecting woman need to vote for the gallant candidate who respected his female competitor, vote for John McCain. ALL veterans and patriots need to vote for John McCain. ALL who care about the unborn and yet support the states right to choice, need to vote for John McCain. ALL who want equal opportunity to purchase healthcare rather then limit the healthcare to the poor and the rich, must vote John McCain. On the other hand, if you support Rev Wrigth-style racism and black liberation theology and socialism, support nasty negative pandering campaign tactics and fear-mongering racism, higher taxes for the middle and upper class, I guess we already know you will not vote mcCain

I would like to know who they polled, too! The DNC has a surprise coming in November. Women will not sit down and shut up and take it anymore. We have husbands, sons, nephews, friends, and brothers that we are talking to as well. UNITE for the cause. Show the DNC that enough is enough. We will not support Obama under ANY circumstance.

Obama will win this fall. Anyone who claims to be a Democrat in this thread and says they will vote for McCain are NOT Democrats. Give me a break. Anyone who claims they are a Democrat and says that they would vote for Bush III is a fool.

“Are Women Shunning Obama? Pollster Says No”
I don’t know where this pollster got his information. Maybe he does his job about as well as most of the journalists did in this primary season (which is to say not well at all). I know thousands of women who were involved with the Clinton campaign who are not going to vote for Obama. Not all will vote McCain; some will write in Hillary, and some will stay home. Obama will NEVER get my vote.

Women are now front and center of whether Democratic nominee can succeed to the Presidency.
Women vote conscience and vote for America’s well being, not for patronage, or for party.
There is no reason to consider that women will ride along the Democratic Party wave of dissonance in choosing Obama. This is one of the reasons that women fought so hard to retain Hillary as possible nominee. In dashing that hope, women may be the first to leave the party camp, and the last to return, the unruly herd that cannot be tamed.
