Clinton Running Late for Her Own Eulogy
As Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., dawdles on her way to the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., where supporters and media throngs await, let’s take a note to discuss what Democratic officials are hoping to hear her say in her speech.
Democratic officials are looking for her to try to get her supporters engaged — what they call “striking the unity note.”
But this needs to be done in a sincere way, so she pushes Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., while keeping faith with her supporters. She will need to be gracious and proud at the same time — not an easy task, but one she can achieve.
They’re also looking for Clinton to acknowledge that Obama won and she lost.
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for her to renounce her spurious claims to have won the popular vote, but there needs to be no ambiguity, officials say, no asterisk, no lingering questions of Obama’s legitimacy.
What are you looking for from her speech?

I am looking for an incredible lady who deserves all of our accolades for the hard work she has done for our country for a long time. She is an amazing representative as a shining beacon for our great country and has opened new doors for thousands of women in the U.S. and the world.
I am looking for our next Vice President.

Hillary’s had my respect through the thick and thin of her political career. As an Obama supporter, I became polarized during the Texas and Ohio election, as a lot was said to become divisive and discredit reputations. However, in the end, its little more than “politics” and I hope to hear her remain strong, supportive and with an overall message of unity.
It would be nice to make a nod to how divisive the both campaigns became, but note that together is stronger than apart – I think that level of honesty would get a majority of Dem voters to hear the message and hear the call as well.

I think Hillary alone without Bill would have never really happened as a plausible candidate. I also think that Hillary alone without Bill could have made it on her own these last 10 years and possibly chosen, following rules, as the candidate. Bill unfortunately in both cases derailed her hope. Its time to move on and make our choice based on who stands before us by party election.

I am looking for her to appear sincere in her claim to unequivicably support Obama. I want her to ask her supporters to support the Party candidate. I want her to swallow her pride and acknowledge him as the nominee. And I want to feel that she is speaking the truth. She is a very brilliant politician and would make a fine President. BUT that no longer matters. Either Obama or McCain will be the President, and I just don’t want it to be McCain. Let’s listen and hope for the best…This can’t be easy for her.

On Hillary as VP.
In my opinion, the answer is rather simple. Do you really believe Michelle Obama would allow this to enter the picture after such a bashing contest. Come on now, you know that women know women…it will never happen.

So let me get this straight. The big news event is that Hillary is dropping her bid for the Democrat presidential nomination? In a contest that effectively ended 4 days ago. Seriously. I wonder if Big Brown’s entry in the Belmont Stakes was withdrawn 4 days after being upset, would anyone be saying “what the heck is the point now”? This just proves that the Clintons don’t make news they are news.

Your loyalty to your party is noteworthy, I am sure you will get at least 5 million of your voters to support you and Obama.
I will not be one of them, ever.

Matt -
Keep up your good work on behalf of McCain. You certainly don’t fool me.
I’ve been an Obama supporter, and by no means a Hillary fan. And tho I don’t personally care for her and disliked her tactics, and questioned her veracity, I think she delivered her best speech ever today. It appeared to me to be more genuine, and honest. It seemed clear to me that it was difficult for her to ask everyone to support Obama — that’s to be expected, especially for someone with her drive.
So I will give her credit. She did a good job today. If she had been more like this consistently, I would have been more open to her message.
So let’s move on, leave all the bashing behind, and elect Obama this year. For an excellent interview with him check out CNN and “Obama One on One” video interview. Very impressive. Will be great to have a Prez back in office who is articulate. I sincerely believe he will be one of the finest presidents in this nation’s history.

Sorry but I’m just not trusting hillary once again. Tuesday night is just unforgiveable and today’s speech – well it’s to be expected since some say her political future is on the line. She hasn’t represented the dem party well and she’s caused all of the divisions so of course she has to be the only -CLINTON can heal it person today.
So today she hopes all is forgiven. She hopes all of her undefenceable acts will be removed. She wants a great legacy. But narcisstics don’t change.

The better person won. Hillary did not run her campaign as strategicly as Obama did. Hillary did not show the good judgement on the war that Obama did. Hillary should have made this speech Wed. but at least she made it. On to the general election and mc-more-war better look out, he will be buried in a landslide. Obama 2008!!!

After all of the name calling by Obama supporters the past few months, they are now politely calling for party unity and simply expect 18 million of us to say ok and move on. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way, at least for me.
I and my friends will vote for McCain.

Sincerely admit that he won? Youve got to be kidding? Exactly what did he win? If they are so convinced that he won, they do not need her to say so. They intimidated her and forced her out of the race, and now they want to humiliate her? This should excite and encourage her supporters? Hillary’s got more spine then the entire democratic establishment. Weak, weak men. Why else are they so terrified of a woman leader? Pfff!

essence,
“Hillary gave an excellent speech today but, I would like to have seen her acknowledge the fact that Obama won the election fair and square.”
I agree that she should have said the election was won fair and square. She has a problem with being honest, admitting wrong-doing or failure. That is probably why she can’t heal herself (let alone a nation she’s divided). Without healing herself, she cannot become better or achieve what she “says” she stands for.
I heard on the news yesterday some goofy Hillary supporter now calling for Obama to change his stance on healthcare — make it mandatory like Clinton did. I think these people are crazy because that is the issue that sunk Clinton! Now that want Obama to take on Clinton’s failed policy.
Stranger than fiction!

We don’t need a liar and schemer in the White House. Hillary is both. And she is also an egotist Lord knows we already have two of those in the WH now, we don’t need that either. Shame on all you folks who say that you would rather vote for McCain rather than Obama. Are you actually saying you would rather see the country go further into Hell rather than what? a) watch a Black man rescue it or, b) you think you are getting some sort of revenge on Obama because Hillary didn’t get the nomination? Believe this, if the ship is going to sink (and it will if we stay in Irag another 100 years or if the president of the free world continues to lie on other countrie [Bosnia did not adequately protect us upon arrival, having us land under sniperfire], lie on the troops she wants to be Commander in Chief of!! (all those troops were just standing around in full gear with guns, but not prepared to protect us under the sniper fire, they were running with thier heads down as fast as the rest of us!!], and little girls [no one greeted us or gave us a reception [poor us!]. There WAS this little girl on the tarmac, amid all that sniper fire, but I don’t know why she was there, probably just wandered into the area]). Yeah, that’s who we need talking to foreign dignataries. Come to think of it, I probably would vote for McCain too if Hillary had gotten the nomination. He may be a bumbler, I may not like his policies, but at least he has integrity and is honest.

What continues to amaze me is the gall of the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Party leaders to just insist that Hillary had to throw everything she had worked so hard for all these months in the tank and get behind Obama IMMEDIATELY. Like it is her responsibility alone to unite the Party and make sure Obama wins in November.
The DNC and the Super Delegates were the ones who made CERTAIN that Obama became the party’s nominee, so it would seem to me that it is THEIR responsibility to get him elected, not Hillary’s.
The gall of these people is just absolutely amazing. If they need her help so badly, and need her to support Obama so badly, what does that say about the candidate they literally gave the nomination to? If they were so certain that he would be the best candidate against McCain, why do they care what “unelectable” Hillary does with her millions of supporters?

“Unity”? Hmmmm . . . where was unity when Clinton was so close in the tightest primary in history? Where was unity when she was being trashed by the media just for having the audacity to run? You’d have thought there’d have been some “unity,” at least of ideas then.
I’m not planning to throw my lot in with either candidate for either party at this point. Yes, Obama is a mirror image of Clinton (since he copied off hers and Edwards’ papers for nearly a year) on the issues, but I have to actually believe these are truly his ideas and that he has the experience ability to enact them. And I also have to believe that the McCain of the last few years is the real McCain. Can’t figure out which one of them seems the most fake . . . but I am going to TRY and keep an open mind, and that’s a lot more than I believe Obama supporters would have done if the situation were reversed.
“Unity” – phony slogan, for a dump concept that doesn’t apply till one side has irrationally beaten down the other side relentlessly. Now they want “unity”? I think I’ll just vote for the candidate I think will do the best job in the aftermath of the Bush nightmare. Perhaps that will be Obama, but it won’t have a thing to do with “unity.” The way the DNC has behaved, I have no affection for democrats right now.

Hillary’s speech was nothing more than more campaigning on behalf of herself, and was, just as it was said tonight on FOX news,4 days late. And BTW, Obama doesn’t need her supporters, they are just saying that out of respect, trying to make her feel like she still has some purpose and usefulness in the party.
