Edwards Has Not Ruled Out V.P. Run

ABC News’ Mary Bruce reports: 2004 Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards this morning left open the possibility of a second run for the position. "I’d take anything he [Obama] asked me to think about seriously," Edwards explained in a "This Week" interview with George Stephanopoulos.

The former 2008 presidential candidate was quick to clarify, however, that he is not actively pursuing the job. "But obviously this is something I’ve done and it’s not a job that I’m seeking."

As the veepstakes continue to heat up, Edwards said Obama should be left to make an independent decision. "Senator Obama … has earned the right to make this decision for himself.  I think he has enormous choices available to him, really great choices available to him.  And I think he’ll go through this process in a thoughtful, orderly way, and he’ll decide who he wants to be his running mate.  And that’s exactly how it should be done."

In a separate interview, former Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson offered a more emphatic response on his vice presidential intentions. "It’s presumptuous for a person to turn down things that haven’t been offered to them, and I don’t think will be offered," he said. "It’s not something that I want."

Thompson also joked about his rivalry with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on the campaign trail. "John wasn’t that generous with me when I was running against him, you know."

I see Edwards is getting to be like O’Bama, Changing his mind. Before he said no about being VP.

Edwards TWICE said he wouldnt take the job.
I notice the reporter FAILED to mention that part.
The longer this goes on, the more CORRUPT the media gets.
All it does anymore is slants and shapes the news to benefit the candidate they want to win.

Christopher,
It was a Republican-majority Supreme Court that granted habeus corpus to the Gitmo detainees, it wasn’t Barack Obama. Just to give you a lesson in basic civics, Senators don’t serve on the Supreme Court.

Come on guys! lets get McCain in there so we can get another war going..Its Iran this time! We are coming to get you..Don’t play with us. just wait until McCain become president..It would be all about war..who cares about the economy. As long as the man with the experience can get a war going then Americans will be sympathetic and gave him two terms to finish what was started..McCain is going to win in November..when the Republican smear team get through with obama most people are going to vote for McCain. The Republicans are much better at smear and lies than the Democrats.. and that is what win elections in this country..So get ready for McCain..The Republicans are going to swift Wright obama from winning. I would love you to win Mr Obama but the Republicans are going to get you with the lies and smear and most of America would fall for it..As the young people say on the street. Word!

Edwards just realise that Barack will win in a landslide come November and know its a pretty cushy job to have,So now lets hop on the gravy train.
You get your own motorcade and a house of your own , you pretty much get treated like the president. And its a high position in the context of congress.
But Johnny boy dont bring much to the table, he didn’t even WIN his OWN state. he is best suited more for Attorney general or the Supreme Court.
I still say Obama / Gore or his good friend Claire McCaskil.ROBERT WEXLER of Florida would be great too, he brings alot of energy that goes with the Barack theme.
It would be GORE, WEXLER, McCaskill in that order.
But please no military on the ticket like a West clark or Webb.
Although you are a shoe in, They can be the kiss of death…like in the past of former army VP choices.

Flip Flop, Flip Flop, Flip Flop
Now that Edwards has endorsed Obama, the more he is beginning to sound like him.
I seem to remember several articles being released a couple of weeks ago regarding Edwards having said that he was NOT interested in being Obama’s running mate.
The more things change, the more they remain the same……………….

That would be fitting, Edwards is the white version of Obama, all in the rethoric of a lawyer, without any actions behind them, that went beyond orchestration in any way. The only contrast between those two would be the color of their skin, which is to say that there would be no contrast at all. Picking Edwards who was the VP for Kerry, would be playing it safe. So much for “change.” The only change coming is the packaging, the polices will remain UNchanged.

i am my party my party is not me. my party does not define who i am or who i vote for.
i do not have to toe the party line. fat cats, party insiders, and politicians do, if they want to get re-elected. that includes my candidate of choice, in this case hillary. that does not mean that i follow her every directive, or endorsement. i am impressed and grateful that obama brought in so many new, and young voters. for that i applaud him, and his campaign. i do not detest any candidate. nor do i engage in vile name calling etc. in this wonderful country of ours i have the right to select the candidate that best meets my criteria as a tax paying employer. we are not selecting a ‘savior’ just another human being that is all. i really do not get all the hate that this election has inspired. if this is CHANGE i want nothing to do with it,

Large numbers of folks who voted for Bush in 2000 regretted that vote, and many from 2004 have joined that group.
the question is whether you want to vote for McCain and regret that vote for the next four years, or vote for Obama. Then, should idiocy prevail, you can at least say you backed the RIGHT horse!!!!

To all of you complaining about the DNC halving your votes in MI and FL so you are going to vote Repub. You do realize that the Republicans did the same thing for the same reason. So what point would that prove? Additionally are you willing to allow this country to slide further into the crapper for your own childish revenge? Maybe you should punish your locally elected officials for allowing the primaries in your state to be moved in violation of BOTH parties rules.

The people in WV were exactly the people he geared hisi campaign toward. He wanted their voices to be heard. They spoke and then he did his best to squelch their message. Not too cool.

Posted by: FishMonger | June 15, 2008, 10:25 pm 10:25 pm

People are so angry so all they do is complain. Edwards flip flops – so what? Obama this, Obama that – so what? What have any of YOU done to make things better? Try running for office so that the peanut gallery can moan and groan about nonsense just to feel important because no one else will listen to you. But no, you’ll do nothing, just like you’ve done every day of your lives. Just sit back and wait for someone to rescue you – and when they do arrive, you’ll just find something wrong with them.

Posted by: Fed up | June 15, 2008, 10:26 pm 10:26 pm

I’m just asking for disgruntled life-long democrats to tell me which of McCain’s positions they support that will make them want to vote for him for president. Pretty simple really. And see if you can answer the question without invoking Obama’s or Hillary’s name please.

Posted by: Jillian | June 15, 2008, 10:30 pm 10:30 pm

Speaking for myself only – I’ve never said I’d vote McCain. I have said I won’t vote Obama though. I plan to sit out the GE for the first time in my life. I’d prefer that only the true supporters cast a vote for one of these candidates. Let’s see who appeals to more people on the issues…instead of who has more people voting against them.
If I was to support McCain, it would be for his record of reaching across the aisle. Everyone knows that a pol is a pol is a pol. They say what people want to hear during the election. But people who get things done put their heads down and work with the rest of the pols – regardless of their affiliation. McCain has done that sufficently that I believe he would listen to other positions as POTUS. Further, he’d be jockeying against a democratic congress. If they do their job, they could pressure him on anything coming from the right.
Here’s the problem with the dems this year. They let the media smear a strong contender and disenfranchised voters with their games. 2004 they took Kerry – and I held my nose as I pulled that lever. What was I gonna do – clamor for Dean? Please. Now they want me to pull the lever for Obama, when I had a contender I respect and supported. It’s all a big club to them – they can do as they please. They’re gonna learn that the rolls are shrinking as a result of their shenanigans. Even if Obama wins, it’ll be a Pyrrhic victory.

Posted by: FishMonger | June 15, 2008, 10:54 pm 10:54 pm

It’s not that big a deal, FishMonger. No need to take the primary loss of your candidate so seriously. You have to move on and vote the issues that are most fundamentally important to you and your family. This should be easy for most democrats. this should be about the issues not personalities, emotions, anger, etc. I would have gladly voted for Hillary, if she had won the nomination, even if the media and pundits had showed gross bias and racism towards Obama, and favored Hillary. Both Hillary and Obama both had extremely similar positions and voting records on virtually every issue. A loss under any circumstances would not dissuade me from voting for the person who represents the issues that are clearly best for our country. I don’t need any time to make that kind of decision.

Posted by: Jillian | June 15, 2008, 11:03 pm 11:03 pm

When are you people gonna realize that lobbying is not a 4 letter word? You do realize that for every corporate lobbyist, there are humanitarian and citizenry groups lobbying the gov’t? Do you honestly think that the pols are going to seek out the ‘issues that matter’ on their own? You need to research what your reps are doing and elect/re-elect them based on the merits of what they do/don’t do in DC.

Posted by: FishMonger | June 15, 2008, 11:19 pm 11:19 pm

FM, again, nothing but attacks on Obama. The best that you can say about McCain is that he’s a left-leaning centrist like you? A little non-specific don’t you think? Good enough for me though, now I know where you stand on the issues. Vote for McCain or sit out like you said you will. Sounds like McCain really inspires you. I happen to like Obama’s positions, which happen to be almost the same as Hillary’s, and I’m sure you loved hers. I can’t stand any of McCain’s positions. Which issues or positions of McCain’s do you feel strongly about?

Posted by: Jillian | June 15, 2008, 11:35 pm 11:35 pm

You didn’t answer my question. Let me help you. The entire ‘review’ of Obama background and judgement is selective beyond belief. “Look at my judgement on Iraq…but not on anything else from my personal life.” Guess what – IL senators didn’t vote on the Iraq war…so it’s ALL personal judgement.
This cherrypicking is like people who raise the bible and quote passages to live by. Funny that you never hear someone quote the parts that advocate violence, poor treatment of women, etc. I abhor those people too.
I’d vote for BO if he could stand up for the decisions he’s made up to this point. Most anyone looks good when you hold the lens at just the right angle.
No thanks.

Yes, we can!!! And we shall.

Posted by: Kurt Eric Munroe | June 15, 2008, 11:44 pm 11:44 pm

Every one of us, including politicians like Hillary and McCain have made mistakes of judgement. Of course Obama has made his share of mistakes, just not as many as Hillary and McCain. Our choice now is between the policy positions of Bush/McCain/Repubs and Obama/Hillary/Dems. Easy choice for most of us who’s hearts are not full of hate, spite, or bigotry. Why do so many people hate Obama for beating Hillary. The media was biased and some in the media (MSNBC) were cruel and sexist. I don’t fault Obama for the idiots in the media. There’s no doubt in my mind that Obama ran the superior campaign, brought new voters to the process, and has inspired the country to bigger and better things. Hillary came close, and she deserves our respect. Supporting Obama does not disrespect Hillary.

I find it very interesting that
those who hate Obama cannot and will
not simply point out the fine qualities
of others that they would prefer to
support. This is particularly true whenever they claim to be
democrats. So what is the real
reason behind their bitterness?
These bottom feeders don’t belong in
our party anyway.

Dont dramatize. The rules allowed the DNC to deny your state ANY representation.
Small states are first so rich people dont have utter domination, just most of the domination. Get over it and pay attention. Your constitution has been thrown out, you wont have any rights at all if you let the right wing stay in power. If that is ok with you, then sit this one out.

McCain: Iraq policy based on taking over the Middle east, already rejected by Maliki.
Now Bush is threatening to steal $20 Billion from Iraq to extort them into allowing Bush and McCain to implement the Karl Rove theory of occupation and domination. Of course, this kind of policy is why the US is called Satan, in Iran, where the CIA overthrew their government over oil, when they installed the Shah. Paying attention? The war is a fake, the people behind it are traitors and they claim the high ground. If you follow the money you can see their plans. 4000 dead, for nothing.
Oil was going to go down to $20 a barrel, they said.
Iraq would pay for the war, they said. See any reality there yet? Vote for change, Vote for Obama and sanity will return to US policy.
Look past the racism. Oh yes, Wall Street Journal people voted that McCain would be better. Would that be because he will let them keep the Bush tax payoff?

Earl: I’m with you all the way. Obama is trying to impress the public that he knows all about foreign policy when he doesn’t even know that much about politics. The only reason that he wants to be president is to compete with MLK because MLK made history and Obama read numerous books on him. Obama will never be the speaker that MLK was and MLK didn’t copy speeches. He could stand up on that platform and speak without a script. Obama uses the speeches of RFK and his words of hope and change. Hillary should never have had Solis in her campaign because Solis’s husband is an Obama supporter and belongs to the Daley machine. Hillary mad a lot of mistakes but the DNC are the one’s who went to the superdelegates along with Obama and made deals with them to vote for Obama. Nancy wants to be the women in power and didn’t want Hillary to be president. I hope everything bounces back on them leavint them to regret the damage they did.
