Fish Don’t Fry In the Kitchen, Beans Don’t Burn On the Grill

I’m not sure a First Lady candidate ever made me laugh before. (Not intentionally,  at any rate.)

But here’s Michelle Obama in today’s New York Times, talking about the apparently false "whitey" rumor:

"You are amazed sometimes at how deep the lies can be. I mean, ‘whitey’? That’s something that George Jefferson would say. Anyone who says that doesn’t know me. They don’t know the life I’ve lived. They don’t know anything about me."

The lies the right have come up with this election cycle is beyond the pall. But then again, they are Repubs.
But she’s right, what is this, 1972? LOL!

But Michelle dear, what we do know, we don’t like. Go away.

You either have been living in a cave or are slow.
Michelle Obama grew up very poor in Chicago. Her father, despite having a serious medical condition, worked everyday to give his children an education. She worked very hard to get through college, all on her own merit.
Learn some facts before you post. Otherwise you just seem slow and foolish.

Most of us know by now that the premier anti-Obama blog is No Quarter. What I find interesting is that she used the same George Jefferson line that was expressed weeks ago in a comment on No Quarter by an Obama supporter. It is clear that the NQ site is monitored by the Obama camp. Did his camp plant the George Jefferson meme?

Michelle did not grow up very poor – that’s as much a fairy tale as Barack’s underprivileged background. Michelle’s late father, Frasier Robinson, was a city pump operator and a Democratic precinct captain. Her mother, Marian, is a former Spiegel’s secretary. She grew up on a tree-lined street, not in a tenement. While it wasn’t the very best, it was far from being the very worst. In fact, her mother still lives in Michelle’s childhood home, so there must be something she likes about it! Her father’s salary was in the $40′s during the 70s which isn’t bad at all. Furthermore, she went to the best colleges this country has to offer and hasn’t stopped complaining about having to re-pay her student loans. And the prices of her daughter’s private lessons. And… oh this woman goes on and on with the complaints. She’s disgruntled and has a huge chip on her shoulder!

No matter how they try to make her over we all know the real Michelle – angry, bitter, spoiled and downright evil.

Posted by: shemakesmesick | June 18, 2008, 8:35 am 8:35 am

Heh…will she ever look bad when the GOP releases that video. Then we’ll know her, right? I don’t doubt for one second that she said that. She and her husband did attend a Black Liberation anti-white church for 20 years. That fact alone makes Michelle’s “whitey” rant probable.

NJH,
Unless James Cone preached at Trinity every Sunday, you have no point.
AND unless you can prove that Trinity preached hatred of whites EVERY Sunday for 20 years, your point is even further diminished.
FEAR wiil not work this election cycle. You Repubs are going to need to find a new angle this year. Stop trying to re-run the 2004 campaign.
Why don’t you guys tell us how great you have done these last 8 years. Remind us of how much better off we are today……

Uhhhh, YES! Racist Rev. Wright speaks Six Languages and has Four Earned Degrees, so Ms. Not-So-Charming-Obama’s Princeton education does not make her above racism. She did, after all, sit in the Racist Rev.’s church for 20 years and have you bothered her read her Princeton Thesis?
Just wait until the GOP releases that one too. BO will be lucky to win Illinois after people learn who they really are.
Everyone knows Ms. Not-So-Charming-Obama is a very unhappy, angry woman who seems to hate white people and her country.
People do not sit in Black Liberation churches for 20 years and not buy into the philosophy. That’s a fact.

It seem as though the Republican smear tactics are’nt not working this time. The Republicans are much better at smear than the Democrats..and they have been using it very effectively to win the last two elections. The Republican smear is based on the premise that a lie told often enough would make believers out of the gullible and before there were a lot of Gullable people who would buy anything the Republicans sold..but somehow it seem as though the tactics are’nt working this time..I can imagine the Republican smear team sitting up late at night trying to figure out more lies, innuendos, propoganda and smear they can come up with..but Obama knows how to respond..what a smart man and a smart campaign team..not like the Kerry team who stood back and allowed the lying swift boat smear team to do its diry work without a response..I say good Obama! Good! The Republican smear team’s back is against the wall..they are wondering “What shall we come up with next!..and they are frustrating Rush Limbaugh,Sean Hannity and the little lady on the view. They are frustrated because nothing’s seem to stick with the Public. I say Good Obama for responding quickly to the Rublican smear team. Vote Dems 08!

“Unless James Cone preached at Trinity every Sunday, you have no point.”
Wright said repeatedly that he has no disagreement with Cone whatsoever.
Trinity is founded on the principles of Black Liberation Theology which states that all whites are oppressors.
Barack and Michelle know this, and have known it for a long time. This was their cauldron for success. It is their base of political aspiration.
It strains credulity to suggest that this allegedly “brilliant” couple was completely ignorant of the church’s underpinnings.
But as I have said, Democrats know just how stupid their followers are. They know just how willing to suspend disbelief Democratic voters are.

FIRED UP!
You assume that I am a Republican. I’m a life-long Democrat and I’ve never voted for a Republican in my life. I suspect that you assume that I am a racist as well. I am not. In fact, having grown up in a mixed race family and spent years in an inter-racial relationship, I tend to have less tolerance for racism than most people.
Cone’s message, as distilled and preached at Trinity United Church, is not the way to transcend our divisions. And I want a president who understands that; in fact, I want a leader who will not give an accepting audience to such a hateful message. Obama’s reference to “typical white people,” and Wright’s rants against “evil white people” are rooted in Cone’s theology. Read it and tell me what you find acceptable about this message. Tell me where Obama found inspiration in it. Would you attend a church that preaches this message for 20 years? Would you raise your children in it?

“It seem as though the Republican smear tactics are’nt not working this time.”
This is a wonderful example of the suspension of disbelief. No one has used words that are anything other than directly from Michelle Obama herself. She wasn’t proud of this country until her husband ran for President.
No one made her say it, and no one is misquoting her.
Citing properly a quote is not a smear. Closing your eyes to her words is denial.

I find Michelle Obama whitty, sincere, honest, and SMART. She knows she’s going to be attacked. There are a lot of people out there who don’t want to see someone of color being our First Lady. What a shame. In fact, I am proud that we have selected someone like Michelle Obama to hopefully be our First Lady. At least she doesn’t “steal” recipes and publishes them as if she originated them. Interesting, but I bet Cindy McCain hasn’t cooked in years.
I am a 69 year old white woman who will
be proud to vote for Barak Obama and have Michelle Obama represent me. Having the McCain’s is like having the Bushes for 4 more years.

Vanessa – You’re obviously living in a dream world (and you’re not familiar with regional demographics) if you think Obama will carry all the States you mention in your post. I live in the Southeast and given the direction my State (GA) has gone in the last 10 years, there is NO WAY Obama will take it in November. My husband is from MS and let me tell you, it won’t happen there either. Listening to the MSM or putting too much emphasis on a single voter group (AA) to carry the day is naive. He may still win the general election, but don’t expect the small pockets of blue voters (like me) to overcome the conservative red machine in the Super-South region of this country. Just a little reality check for those with their heads in the clouds. It will take action and work to get him elected, not idealistic thoughts and words alone.

Posted by: FairPlay | June 18, 2008, 9:50 am 9:50 am

If the tape is in the hands of the Republicans, it will cool its heels until September at least. A slow drip of comments and extracts from her thesis will make their way into the media and the media will try to spin them away. However, after the shellacking of Hillary Clinton, the public will be wise and tired of the spin. That creates anti-spin and that will give stories about Michelle Obama momentum. In a very tight race, that can do the damage intended to the Democratic presumptive.
Obama dished it out. If he can’t take it, that’s too bad.

There are teams of “public relation experts” working on Michelle Obama’s image.
But comparing Michelle Obama to Jackie Onassis Kennedy and Barak to JFK is laughable! There should be a law against such a farce. I hate to say anything nasty about another human being. However, I find Michelle Obama to be a very ordinary woman. I accept for who Michelle Obama is. I know she’s somewhat grumpy, moping, feisty and arrogant. Michelle definitely is no Jackie as much Dan Quale was no JFK. Jackie Kennedy had a high birth, aristocratic upbringing, elegance, dignity, poise, wealth, education. She was kind and compassionate; artistic and literary. She had other evolved sensibilities and many shining attributes about her. Michelle Obama has shown few of those attributes. Michelle Laverne Robinson Obama is very different. She is light years away from the beauty who Jackie Onassis Kennedy was! I feel to compare them to one another for political expediency─ a perversion. Michelle and Barack are furthest I can think of from such American icons like Jackie and JFK. Now the same people in the media establishment trying hard to prop up Barack and Michelle to the pantheon of American icons! People have to learn to accept what Barack Obama and Michelle Obama for who they are. Most people accept Barack and Michelle for who they are; but you don’t have to lie about them and compare them to Jackie and JFK. We were all made equal. Michelle and Barack are products of very different times than Jackie and JFK’s. Ironically, there will never be another Jackie or JFK, as they were products of their time and era. That world has vanished forever; just like air-travel nowadays. Just like Hollywood stars these days are less classy or glamorous, unlike in the days of Ingrid Bergmann and Humphrey Bogart. We live in much more “just” and democratized America. But And we must accept it for what it is. We have to accept what we created move on. Hence, no matter what you do or where you are, try it make it little better and little more beautiful than you found it. Our corrupt media people think they can manufacture American heroes at will. Remember Bush Administration tried to “make up heroes” like Jessica Ryan?

I’m not voting for Obama and I think Michelle does come across as angry.
But I think her story is more historic.
I’m not black so I am just guessing.
I mean she is a descendent of slaves and may become the first black First Lady. Obama is not a descendent of slaves. Given the history of the US I think her story is significant.
Just my two cents–Go McCain

Wrong. Princeton is one of the most difficult schools in the country to get into. Michelle Obama is an extremely smart woman.
she got jobs ONLY because her husband was a politician
She got her first job at a major law firm before she even met Senator Obama.
and she makes a load of money ONLY
because her husband is a US Senator.
And what do you base that assessment on? More of your “I’m just makin’ it up” mindset?
And she’s married to a guy who has not ever taken a single position which required guts in his entire life.

Get a grip. Thinking Americans don’t fear a powerful black woman. We do fear (and have every right and reason to fear and oppose) someone who ascribes to a racist theology in a position of power.
Read James Cone. Listen to Jeremiah Wright. Then ask yourself, with all the options available, why did the Obamas chose this theology and this church? Racism is wrong, without regard to the color of the racist.

You are right, I don’t have concrete proof as to what Michelle or Barack actually believe.
But if someone choses and maintains a church for 20 years, it is logical to conclude that they find belief and inspiration in its theology and Barack has said as much about Trinity and Wright.
Perhaps you think the Obamas had a different motive in attending Trinity? If they did not connect with the core theology of the Church, then what was it? Was it the Church’s good works (as sometimes suggested by Obama supporters)?
Funny–Cone criticizes the “orientation of white theology toward defending dominant class interests..” He says this is why “white theology…in its efforts for social good does not go beyond the kind of modernizing reformisms (sic) that only shore up the status quo.”
What motive would you find sufficient to overcome the objections that they should have felt in response to the racist and hateful message of Trinity, Wright and Cone?

Thanks, Fired Up, for your dissing Jackie Kennedy, who was no role model at all. That breathy, fake Marilyn Monroe voice was just too much. Both Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain are strong women, and while Cindy might have inherited wealth, she has done a lot of good with it, unlike Jackie, who seemed to live to spend money.
What worries me is that men of all races and political persuasions seem to be afraid of strong women. I don’t know why, but it sure is nuts, isn’t it?

Michelle and Barack Obama are both arrogant and condencending. Barack will say and do anything to get elected and Michelle is not lady-like. The campaign that successfully smeared the president that has done more for civil rights in this country in decades and the candidate that has worked aggressively for Blacks and Women throughout her career shouldn’t be surprised.
Hey Jake do you think perhaps the Obama campaign is talking in “racial coding” picked up on a subliminal level?
Perhaps we are all wondering if 20 years exposed to Rev Wright (the George Jefferson of the puplit) had any effect at all on the Obama’s..

One thing that may contribute to a perception that Michelle Obama is arrogant is her height. As a tall woman myself, I know that throughout my life people found that intimidating, especially the fact that I was taller than most of the men I met.
