Gore Formally Endorses Obama in Michigan
ABC News’ Sunlen Miller Reports: Former Vice President Al Gore formally endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Il., on stage before 20,000 people at a rally Monday night in Detroit, Michigan.
"The outcome of this election will affect the future of this planet," Gore said at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena. "We’ve got to have new leadership. Not only a new
president, but new policies."
It marked the first time the Democratic heavyweight, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and climate change crusader publicly backed the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Speaking for 15 minutes to the crowd, the 2000 Democratic presidential candidate — who stayed out of his party’s nomination battle between Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton — called the primary an "historic contest."
Seeming to take the experience argument and age difference between presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain and Obama head on, Gore — who was vice president under Bill Clinton for eight years and served as a representative and senator from Tennessee for seven years before that — argued the length of years in Washington has nothing to do with
preparedness.
“Nevertheless, the other party seems to think that age and experience are factors that will work in their favor during this campaign. But our shared experience as a nation tells us otherwise,” Gore said, using John F. Kennedy’s 1960 presidential run against Richard Nixon as an example of another time people had similarly questioned a candidates’ age and experience.
“I remember when one prominent Republican wondered out loud whether the Democratic nominee, and I quote, ‘really is grown up enough to be president.’ Another used the phrase, quote, ‘naive and inexperienced,’” he said.
Gore said Obama inspires him the same way JFK did. He pointed out Obama’s opposition to the Iraq war in 2002 – and said he was an “eloquent legislator” as a state senator.
Obama had equally flattering words for Gore and his early actions on climate change, telling the audience that he will count on Gore if he becomes president.
“So Washington, which is always the last to hear the news, may not have listened to Al Gore 30 years
ago, but America and the world are listening now, and when I am president I will be counting on Al Gore to help me lead the fight to achieve for a clean energy future here in America and around the globe.”
Tonight was Obama’s third visit to Michigan in a month. He
told the crowd that he missed the opportunity to campaign there during
the primary season due to the Democratic Party’s ruling but that he hopes to make up
for lost time.
“I know that we didn’t have a chance to come to Michigan the way we should have. But I want everybody to know the Michigan delegation — they are going to be fully participating in our contention in November. Because we intend to be winning Michigan in November,” Obama said.
Obama told the crowd that his former opponent, Sen. Clinton would be
“at the forefront of bringing change in America” and joked about the
length of their hard fought campaign.
“Of course nobody told me the primary was going to last 15 months, that
was a long primary,” he laughed, “I was planning to run for the ’08
election, not the 2012 election."

Can Mitt Romney Win Conservatives Back?
Possible Contraception Compromise in D.C.
It is admirable to try and keep a clean environment. And it sounds good to take money from hard working people and give it to other hard working people.
However, you’ve got to have a great unshackled economic machine to do so. These two admirable ideas only squanders and strangles the economic machine.
For instance a doctor is making over $250,000. He works extraordinary hours to help out in impovershed areas, sometimes given out free medical service. In the meantime, he’s paying around $100,000 for medical malpractice. Now you’re going to tax him, the government squanders half and maybe, that’s a big maybe, gets 50%. The doctor then cuts out his extra hours and moves away where well to do people can pay him what he deservedly earns. In the meantime the poor guys friendly doctor is no longer there.
You can’t take money away and put it somewhere else. Money is generated through work. You guys are clueless. The environment can wait for a couple more decades until these alternative fuels can replace oil. Your idea of taxing oil companies is like killing the goose who lays the golden egg!
You two guys don’t have a clue of what is going on. Lee Iaccoca was right, throw the bums out!

I just want to see Obama as our next President. I am a registered Republican but will vote for the Democratic Presidential candidate Obama. I believe he can do alot for America. President Bush brought our country down with a nonsense war which has cost us Billions. America is a strong country which can achieve goals without fighting. So why does our country prefer to fight than to resolve things piecefully? I have no idea. Right now American Bush wants to fight Iran, why? Could not we achieve better results by talking. But we must know how to talk with foreign countries first. I dont believe our President knows how. What a shame.

JLMEALER, do you understand that while the rest of the world is starting to act on global warming the US still thinks its a “Liberal” conspiracy. Your countries reputation is abysmal and McCain is just too old and senile to do the job. What an earth are you thinking?

I, likewise, am a registered Republican who has had enough of the party’s arrogant, my way or the hi-way attitude. I will vote for Change this November. Al Gore won the People’s vote in 2000 but W’s brother Jeb (Bush, Florida Governor) decided the People’s vote doesn’t count and now look at McCain – he’s considering Charlie (Crist, Florida Governor) for veep. Imagine that.

Sylvia, get over it. Hillary was my candidate too but its time to unite behind Obama so the Dems control the all important White House. Sour grapes promotes another McCain/Bush/Cheney disaster.

Terry,
It might be just me. But I want a politician that will make a judgment and if the facts on the ground change or new information comes to light, is willing to man up and say “yea, that is what I thought then, but now I think this way, and here is why.”
I personally have had my fill of people that “stick to their guns” regardless of what train wreck it leads too and regardless of how a dynamic world changes with every new day.
When did it become a virtue to be stubborn or bullheaded? When did being nimble and dynamic become something to scorn?
But like I said, it might just be me.

Glad to see Gore finally get on board with an endorsement.

What has happened to the Democrat Party?
It has been completely taken over by the “rich elite” liberals in this country.
And Detroit is probably a good example of Decades and Generations of 100% Democrat control.
That”s why only 24% of the innocent children ever graduate from High School.
And it”s exactly the reason why Detroit has the highest crime rate in America.
Self-righteous liberals what ever happens to the 76% of the innocent children in Detroit that don”t graduate from High School?
And is this what you liberal call Social Justice?
It seems like a crime to me.
Where am I wrong?

Endorsed by a loser. A loser that is so sore and pathetic he invents reasons to further tax everything on the planet, taking out his vengence on the citizens and business.
Obama should run from this clown, and fast.
He will always have a little crowd of mindless sheep that will follow him because of their emotional tie to the religion of global warming. Like those people were going to vote for McCain over Obama, LOL.
Al the sky is falling and it’s mans fault Gore, Obama probably went back to his hotel and puked. Thinking that’s great, now I get the sheep that can’t think on their own.

I think Obama, now, by sucking up and hiring Patti Doyle, who did work for Hillary, will be a cold slap in the face for Hillary supporters. I can’t believe Obama says one thing, and now, changes his mind on just about every issue. He’s like a chameleon, you never know what his stance is. With the hiring of Doyle, whatever support Obama was getting from Hillary supporters will be severed. Obama will sink to whatever it takes to win this election, even to the point of lying and betrayal. The endorsement of Gore is a joke and will only hurt Obama, which is a good thing. Who even cares about Al Gore, who is a liar as well, who has turned his back on the UAW, but decides to endorse this joke in Michigan. And, if Obama is all that GREAT, why is he only ahead by 6 pts of McCain. Sorry, folks, the Dems have done themselves in. This is one Democrat that will be voting Republican this year and I challenge all you Obamabots to rethink your support of Obama and his lies. Hillary supporters, with the hiring of Doyle, it appears that Obama is telling you that he can do anything he wants, can beat Hillary down, then pick up her people, to help run his shoddy campaign. I challenge you to switch your allegiance to John McCain…..a true American patriot that says what he means and means what he says. This joker Obama is bad news….lets unite and put an end to him and his chronies!

Give me a break! I have been a democrat for years, and this will be the first time I will vote Republican. Where is the democratic party, the party of the working class? Obama has turned the democratic party into a joke along with Al Gore—talk about politics of old!!! Obama will do or say anything to get elected; obviously. The democratic party WAS a party that the working class could come together and elect someone who would actually help the middle and working class. I know many here in PA that will not vote for Obama; and will not vot–or will be voting for John McCain. The working class democrats needs to sent a message from the working class of America to the DNC. Who the DNC picked is not who the voters picked. Simple as that.

This is brilliant, November is coming slowly.

david from texas,
Ur a Republican posing as a Democrat.
Why don’t you tell ur own party to vote McCain. He has some serious problem within the Republican party etc Obamacans and evangelicals
The polls are just right. John McCain should be in the lead with such a “division” within the Democratic party and 2 months of an advantage to rally his base.
Obama has a 6 point lead b/c Hillary supporters are starting to rally around him. As time passes Obama’s lead will grow.

John McCain will lose big-time this November…
McCain has nothing but old ideas and politics of the past; fell policies of George Bush and other conservatives that are out of the loop on every issue. What has John McCain done since being in the US Senate for 30 years? The voters want won’t to be reminded of Vietnam’s POWs, MIAs, jobs for the communists and all the other fell war policies of the past and present.
McCain’s, Iraqi policy is that the troop build-up is working and everything is fine and dandy. McCain’s gas policy is to drill everywhere and anywhere no matter the environmental impact on the environment. McCain, on jobs renew the tax breaks for rich to create jobs and that will work it way down to the masses.

Trying to tax their way out of a recession. Unemployment at better than 7 percent. Detroit and it’s long running “most dangerous city” stirng of hits. McCain’s “progressive” economic statergy means progressing to the next level of McBush/GOP agendas.
RE-THINK: When you make countless errors in judgement, yo must rethink everything you did. Some of this comes from age. It’s harder to remember everything you do and say. So you have to re-think about it.
REINVENT: To gain support from your own party, it may be necessary to reinvent yourself. You may have to flip flop on a few dozen key issues regardless of what you really think. (Just pretend you mean what you say.)
RECESSION: The result of Republican leadership in our ecomony. Defense contractors and oil companies show record profits for four straight years, but the rest of us get to enjoy a recession.

ROE V WADE IS SETTLED LAW. IT HAS SURVIVED 34 YEARS, 24 OF WHICH WERE UNDER REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTS. RIGHT-WING LUNATICS MAY NOT HAVE GOTTEN THE MEMO YET, BUT HERE’S THE FACTS: THE ERA OF FORCED PREGNANCY IS ALREADY LONG GONE. OBAMA MOVEMENT, YOUR SCARE TACTICS WONT WORK.
————————
Actually you’re reasoning is flawed. The Republican Presidents did not have any say as to how this law was interpreted. They couln’t change it even if they wanted to do so.
While in office, the Republican Presidents had a liberal Supreme Court making that decision.
Currently, the vote is 5 to 4 on Roe. There will be 2-3 new justices appointed this next Presidential term. If we get two more conservative judges (the type ALWAYS picked by Republicans)it is very likely we will see a change in the interpretation of abortion law. McCain states on his website that this is his intention.
While you are correct, the Supreme Court will not “overturn” abortion rights, they can make it a state decision instead of a federal decision.
Giving the states that power WILL lead to certain states outlawing abortion. Several states have tried already. The only thing that has prevented it was the Supreme Court’s ruling that it is a federal issue.
Personally, I could care less. It has no impact on my life what-so-ever. But if it’s an issue important to you, you may want to think about how Roe vs Wade has been held up.

Didn’t Al Gore also endorse John Kerry? Didn’t Al Gore also campaign with Howard Dean? So it’s fitting that Al Gore would endorse Barack Obama. Al Gore complains about the last 8 years in America; in the last 8 years Al Gore has made over 100 million dollars, won a Oscar, won a Nobel Peace Prize (for what Peace?) yet the last 8 years has been horrible for the Gores (maybe they should take the driver’s license and drugs away from Al Gore Junior). But go ahead and endore Barack Obama; they same outcome will happen.

I didn’t hear or read anywhere that said Patti Solis Doyle and Senator Clinton are angry at each other. In fact I read they’re long time friends. Didn’t Ms. Doyle “step down” from her role in Senator Clinton’s primary campaign? Perhaps the accurate spin is that Ms. Doyle wasn’t effective in her role with Senator Clinton, in part, because of the constant in-fighting. Having said that, who’s to say that Senator Clinton didn’t give her blessing to Ms. Doyle for this GE appointment? People here are so ridiculous in their comments, and quite hateful. The majority of which I’m sure are gutter throwing republicans pretending to be (pro-Clinton) democrats. Problem is they’re easily spotted on these blogs.

Vice President Gore’s endorsement is very disappointing. Gore had gained the respect of many in recent years; his endorsement only serves to diminish him. While I still respect him greatly, I will no longer look to him to be the intellectual and moral leader of the party. Why he would endorse someone of Obama’s ilk is a mystery. Obama is an arrogant light-weight who is basically the democratic version of G.W. Bush – all ego and arrogance and no substance. Obama has accomplished nothing n his political career except for successfully avoiding voting on anything controversial and writing a few very self serving books. Like Bush, Obama is more concerned with helping himself than he is with helping the people of the nation. I have been a democrat for 30 years and have never sat an election out or voted for a republican for any office. I cannot and will not support Obama just because he is a democrat. Then I would be just as bad as all of the republicans who did not believe in Bush but voted for him anyway, just to avoid crossing party lines.

Big deal, Al Gore waits until the last moment to endorses Obama. What does this say about his endorsement?

Who cares what that lying sack o’cr@p does? He didn’t invent the internet, he invented the global whining hoax.

Early on I had hoped Gore would run for President. Oh well- all we get from him is an endorsement when it is insignificant.

Mr. Al,
you will not have my vote twice!

Is Gore really someone Obama wants endorsing him? That speaks volumes in itself.
People are falling for the media ‘entertainment’.
ps what an insult to the other people that deserved and worked hard for the prize. this diminishes its purpose.
This is not to say we shouldnt be mindful of what we do to our environment and improve things but there are no basis in fact for his ‘beliefs’. wouldnt an award be more appropriate for someone that actually did something positive eg cured cancer, cured the fuel shortage …

It is interesting reading blogs.
It is obvious some people are just
repeating what is said in the news.
unfortunately some sadly believe if one doesnt vote for obama one is predujice
and if one doesnt vote for mccain he’s too old or cause he’s another bush and that’s a bad thing.
wrong wrong wrong

Obama ignored the voices of Florida. He completely ignored them.
How the heck could Gore support this guy.
Maybe Gore doesn’t get it that Obama was supporting the rules that lost him the election.
Would someone please inform Gore. He probalby wasn’t watching the coverage.

The reason Clinton supporters will not vote for Obama is because they are embarrassed of him, his life, his unfair tactics and his beliefs. And they still don’t know all about him.
They don’t want a candidate that has been in a twenty year relationship with Reverend Wright and the Trinity United Church of Christ.
They don’t’ want a candidate that has a twenty year relationship with Father Pflaeger as his compass in life
They don’t want a candidate that went to a church that supports Louis Farrakhan, an anti Semitic racist.
They don’t want to defend Black Liberation theology.
They don’t want a candidate that lies about his relationship with Tony Rezko, the Syrian Criminal that sold his property to Obama and supported his campaign.
They don’t want a candidate that could work with a domestic terrorist, William Ayers.
They don’t’ want a candidate that didn’t stand up for the voters of Michigan and Florida.
They don’t want a candidate that Hamas supports.
They don’t want a candidate that Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam support
They don’t want a candidate that has a wife that has just now realized she was proud of our country.
They don’t want a candidate that denies Florida and Michigan their voices
They don’t want a candidate that mentions 57 states in his speeches. 50 states in the USA and 57 states in the Nation of Islam (IOC website)
They don’t want a candidate that fights unfair and steals Michigan delegate votes from his opponent.
They don’t want a candidate that feels sorry to leave a church that is anti American and that preaches hatred and racial views that are cruel and nasty.
They don’t want a candidate that is inexperienced.
They don’t want a candidate that considers it a loss to not to be able to attend his anti American, racist Church.
They don’t want a candidate that has a Muslim father.
They don’t’ want a candidate that can’t win a debate
They don’t’ want a candidate that misleads the youth with an ‘Obama girl and her behind in their face”
They don’t want a candidate that says he’s an African American and missed the MLK Remembrance Day and the Louisiana Black Caucus meeting
They don’t want a candidate that has done nothing for humanity except talk about it.
They don’t’ want a candidate named; Barack Hussein Obama
He scares them to death.
He is embarrassing.
He is unelectable.

I like warm milk and cookies too,but this is no time in history to think of having a cozy little talk with a mad man who is more interested in killing one third of the worlds population. I know its hard for some of you to fathom this, but truely evil people want to destroy freedom in this world. They also have purely irrational goals that most would consider insane. Whistleing past graveyards, and playing peek–a-boo with the realities of the world will do nothing except signal a weak willed reluctance to draw a dead line in the sand.

“McCain has nothing but old ideas and politics of the past; fell policies of George Bush and other conservatives that are out of the loop on every issue.”
Yeah, it’s a bummer when someone has morals and defends The United States of America, what a drag.

Being a previous Hillary supporter, contrary to the Republican guy’s rant above about Obama being a Muslim or whatever crazy stuff they are saying this week, I have to say I am whole-heartedly supporting Obama at this point.
Honestly, I don’t know who these supposed “Hillary people” are that he says wont support Obama, but my guess is that they are actually almost ALL republicans who never supported her in the first place, and they are just trying to stir up division that doesn’t really exist. There is not one Democrat I have ever met that thinks he’s Muslim, or not patriotic – Obama is a great American success story, and loves his Country dearly, and if you examine his life with any depth at all, you will see this.
Frankly, Obama’s record is stellar, he’s a natural leader, and I can’t wait to see him become President and start to fix the horrible mess the Republicans (McCain included) have made of this Country.
Obama ’08!

Republicans, you had all 3 branches of Government for over 6 years and have shown us what you can do – you have almost ruined our Country. Due to YOU and you ALONE, we face:
*9.4 TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT that we owe interest on – much of it to Asian debtors.
*A housing crises due to you not doing a damn thing to regulate & have oversight over Wall Street and the lending industry (remember how they got rid of it, folks?)
*a crisis of losing millions of jobs overseas, due to Bush/McCain allowing endless unregulated outsourcing. Most American companies that set up shop in China pay such workers 8-25 CENTS per hour. McCain wants MORE of this.
*An unending and unneeded war in Iraq that we were lied into.
*A massive trade deficit.
*Healthcare skyrocketing to the point of 50 million Americans no longer with health insurance, and visits to the doctor which often total 1000′s of dollars for simple things.
Well folks, if you want to see our country eventually bankrupted like Russia did to itself, if you like getting paid less than a living wage, if you like seeing your job outsourced or given to illegal aliens for less-than-minimum wage, if you think its right that you should lay down and die when YOU get too old or sick to work, then go ahead and continue to vote Republican.
Go ahead and choose to ruin your Country, but I will proudly vote for Obama, as well as vote every last one of these Republican clowns I can.
