Grover Norquist: Obama is “Kerry With a Tan”
Conservative activist Grover Norquist dropped by The Los Angeles Times’ Washington bureau and decided a classy and appropriate way to convey his opposition to the liberal positions of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, was to call the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee "John Kerry with a tan."
Presumably Norquist is trying to conjure forth something other than Kerry’s curiously orange tan some were obsessed with for a spell in 2004.

well, I think people like this and remarks such as these, will help all americans of goodwill to unity behind the dems.
obama NEEDS sen. clinton and Pres. Bill.
obama does not need to say it-but WE and THEY know it.
I agree this year the DNC and dean messed up bad this year. DEAN and PELOSI need to go.
but obama is what we have.
I read an article titled “When dreams collide” – the women’ movement and the civil rights movement.
but just think about it.
the dems will win when
DREAMS UNITE
must have a dem in the white house.

Which is far more valuable than military service with regards to helping the country.
I’d rather have a President who passed up high paying jobs to instead help his community than someone who was just trained to shoot a gun or drop bombs.

Remington, you wrote: “I’d rather have a President who passed up high paying jobs…”
Let’s see…within 6 months of assuming his responsibilities as a U. S. Senator in 2005, Sen. Obama purchased a $1.65 million home. In their 2007 Federal Income Tax return, Sen. Obama and his wife reported that their adjusted gross income last year was $4,139,965. And he passed up high paying jobs?

Maybe Obama will be impeached before he has a chance to win, that is why Hilary is jumping on board with him..
Obama wants to talk to despots around the world, says he wants to bring unity, BUT refuses to allow any of his people or other party members or himself to be questioned on Foxnews.
Sharpton pulled out last minute from a Fox show, because Obama called him and said not to do it, Sharpton said.

So stop the lies that he was poor!!

Did you ever hear Obama talk about his hardships he had in life so he can relate to every body.
His biggest hardship is paying off a student loan. And Obama actually uses that as his main way to say he can relate to the common man

Well, democrats hate to admit this, but there are several similarities between Obama and Kerry. Both are pretty far to the left. Both are a part of the moveon.org wing of the party. Both captured the same core constituent groups. At the end, they will both be saddled with the “far leftie” label and just as Kerry did, Obama will battle it throughout the fall. Neither will prove man enough to stand up to the GOP and their vile attacks. Ironically, the toughest “man” in this race was a woman, but democrats prefer touchy, feely. Go figure.. maybe one day they’ll figure out how to win.

Funny how the Republicans keep throwing labels out there.
Remember when they called Obama the next Jimmy Carter.
Maybe the Republicans should look at the Bush approval ratings. The numbers were taken before $4 gas and terrible fatality numbers from Afghanistan. The next set of numbers, Bush is expected to dip below 20%.
Republicans got in power by slinging mud. Now, they’re president has them stuck in the mud.

Vote for Sen. Obama? And should the federal government takeover our health care system, how long would it be before we see the same policy that Japan has just started? In an attempt to have a healthier country a new law was passed mandating that all individuals between the ages of 40-74 must have their waistlines measure by their companies or local governments as part of their annual checkups. There are government imposed limits: Men: 33.5-inch waistlines; Women: 35.4-inch waistlines. If an individual’s waistline exceeds the limit, and they are unable to lose weight within three months, they will be given dieting guidance. If that doesn’t work after six months, a re-education program will be encouraged. The Japanese government will impose financial penalties on companies and local governments that fail to meet specific targets.
Posted by: James Danley | June 27, 2008, 3:34 pm 3:34 pm
The problem the Republicans have this year is that they are talking to their very limited right wing base. There is no enthusiasm for McCain from the right wing of the Republican Party. Keep talking to them, and leave the rest of the voters out. They know what a Republican Administration looks and acts like.

James Danley: And… that’s a bad idea… how? Sign me up, I need incentive to drop a few pounds.
Posted by: Champ | June 27, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm
Champ, do you really want a federal bureaucracy keeping track of your waistline? Should you fail to meet the waistline limit, you will have to go back to your doctor’s office every three months until your waistline meets the federal standard. But the real problem is the fact that the Japanese government imposes financial penalites on companies and local governments if they don’t meet their targets. Do you really think employers will continue to pay fines because some employees refuse to lose weight? No they will fire current overweight employees; and not hire anyone who does not already meet the waistline limits. That will result in higher unemployment, which means the federal government will have to raise taxes on everyone else to compensate for the lost tax revenue.

tim …Why do you care if Obama grew up poor or wealthy? What does that have to do with anything? Is there something I am missing that only Republican candidates are allowed to be extremely wealthy?
His single mom was poor and did live on food stamps for a while. His grandparents helped raise him and they were both working folks who were better off financially. He went to school on scholarships and student loans.
Posted by: Eileen From Maine | June 27, 2008, 4:13 pm 4:13 pm
Eileen, it matters because Obama has put forth the myth of an underprivileged background for political gain.
His mother was on food stamps when she was going for her PhD – long after she had abandoned Obama.
His grandmother was a trailblazing woman who was VP of the biggest bank in Hawaii.
These things matter because it’s just another case of Obama’s lying. Just like Selma and the Kennedy airlift. The question is, does Obama really believe these things (which means he has problems) or does he know they’re lies and expects us to fall for them hook, line, and sinker (which spells problems for our country if we elect this faker POTUS).
Posted by: HoosierSue | June 27, 2008, 4:18 pm 4:18 pm
This is just one of a large number of indirect and direct snide comments speaking to Obama’s race out of the class act that call themselves the leadership of the GOP. Norquist, a winner if there ever was one, met with White House staff weekly for years to plan political strategy. He’s as much of an insider as Rove, and as repellant as they come. Why anyone chooses to report these insults is beyond me, but I am going to point out a simple truth: look to Democratic leadership, and try to find a SINGLE senior Democratic insider who says anything similarly disgusting about McCain. You’re not going to find it, which speaks to the fact that the fundamental level of decency in the Democratic Party is just so much higher than the GOP, as hard as that is to accept for Republicans.

Most of you cats are so full of hate and old school ignorance that I think I am done with this blog! It was bad enough when the primary’s raged, but now that things have gone differently than many of you had in mind, nothing but discontentment reigns. These views aren’t even intellectually stimulating. The fact of the matter is that Hillary didn’t run the best of campaigns, but her failure could have been Obama’s! It wasn’t though and at least Obama sees what this woman brings to the table and is trying to use that platform as a premise to build upon. Why not lend some support and give it a shot? In the end perhaps McCain would have been a better choice, but the fact is that he and the Bush administration have had 8 years and what you see is what you get! Hate all you want, but the change is needed! Peace.

Why is Obama’s blackness such a bone of contention for conservatives? If they don’t like his liberal or progressive or flip flop positions WHY NOT call out those things without getting into his racial identity?
I think the weirdest and the best explanation of Obama is that he is EXOTIC like an unusual delicious fruit that a person just can’t get anywhere. The only thing is there are at least 30 million of those exotic fruits in this country.
Less exotic.
More approachable than fruit.

Hopefully Republicans who aren’t racists will see the nonsense being spouted on their behalf and protest. How sad that the party that has been saying for decades that racism is no longer an issue in this country, seem to rely on it to criticize Obama. Racist arguments really point to the scarcity of ideas on the Republican side this election cycle and shame on anyone who perpetuates this bull in order to win.

Throw all the different colored mud at Obama you want it will not stick. Not a bias just a fact that we know white America much better than you know us. See we have had to educate ourselves by serving you to talk like you, to know how you think, work, play and pray. We have honored this country by fighting and dying in all wars while simultaneously fighting for freedoms you take for granted, which make us skeptical patriots. But some of the best fighting patriots. Just look at the makeup of our military. So yes we know and love ourselves & others. Is there room for growth in our communities? HELL yes. We cal all step up!! So stop questioning Baracks or our Americanism or Black Americanism if we so choose before taking a long hard look in the mirror.

Did you Obama zombies know that he got the contributor’s list from gasbags like Kerry and Kennedy when they endorsed him? And, he claims he is not politics as usual? What kind of induced haze does he have you in? Unbelievable! There is at least 3 million of us who will NOT be voting for Obama but will vote for John McCain in November. We would have gladly voted for Obama until he kept slamming hillary with the gender comments. He caused this problem so I don’t feel sorry for him at all now! And, why is it, every time anyone states the littlest thing like Obama is Kerry with a tan, IT’S RACIAL, OH, MY , IT’S RACIAL. Well, you have civil rights legilation protecting your and the women HAVE NOTHING! OUR EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT FAILED TO PASS SO IT IS ALWAYS OPEN SEASON ON WOMEN AND WE ARE SICK OF IT!
