McAuliffe: Clinton Would Campaign Every Day for Obama

ABC’s Eloise Harper reports: Terry McAuliffe, Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, says she will do anything to help Democratic nominee Barack Obama — even travel every day, if that is what he wants.

“She will do anything. She has made that clear. She will do anything she can to help Barack Obama,  travel if he wants her to travel everyday she will do that," McAuliffe told reporters outside of Clinton’s  Washington DC home Friday, as hundreds of staffers were gathering at the house for a final party.

McAuliffe wouldn’t comment on the meeting that took place between Obama and Clinton last night.

Clinton’s surrogate also wouldn’t comment on the Senator’s concession speech tomorrow –- but said she would focus on party unity. “This was never about Hillary Clinton. This was about all the issues that mattered to her that’s what we need to talk about.”

Clinton’s mood is upbeat, McAuliffe insisted, even as the lengthy, hard-fought priamry battle has ended in her opponent’s favor. “It’s great. I’ve spoken to her a bunch of times," he said.

McAuliffe said the mood upbeat among staffers as well, adding that Clinton’ shattered the glass ceiling in her historic bid for the presidency. “It was a great campaign. For 17 months everybody worked their hearts out. You look at Hillary talk about breaking the glass ceiling — I think she shattered it.  I mean, she got more than 18 million votes — she won a lot of important states. I think I speak for all the staff  — they’re very proud. It was an exciting campaign…but  now we do everything we can to help Barack Obama to be the next president because it’s about the issues”

When informed that there was no alcohol inside the the Clinton’s staff party McAuliffe joked with reporters: “There’s no booze? I’ll take care of that”

Obama will never be an option for us …
Our conscience points us to MCCAIN if Hillary is not the nominee ..
The Democrats deserve to lose the White House is they put up Obama as their nominee …

Let Obama make that decision. The more people push Obama to take Hillary as VP, the least willing he will be. Let’s be logic, no president-to-be wants to be “bully around” in front of those he or she is wishing to lead.
I think that Hillary is indeed in the list; I haven’t seen the list, but I think that Barack wants to be president and as a smart politian he would do what he considers is best to win. I am an Obama supporter and I agree with Hillary on the ticket.

DMK: You are so right! I remember Michelle Obama saying that she would have to “THINK ABOUT” campaigning for Hillary Clinton if Hillary became the nominee.
If HIllary goes out full force and campaigns to her husband, whom then will look like a fool!! Hillary don’t do it!!

It is great Hillary will campaign for Obama and Americans will find out who will be the real leader and what mistake DNC has made…

Embarassing, i meant WRITE, not right. sorry

Sen. Clinton should be the Democratic presidential nominee. Obama did not clinch the nomination fair and square. De facto Obama surrogate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rigged the nomination for Obama.
Sen. Clinton’s supporters in the swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida and Michigan should work for Obama’s defeat and vote for McCain. Obama must win atleast three of these states in November. I will volunteer and vote for McCain in a swing state.
Sen. Clinton won the primaries for all four swing states. She was the best qualified and the strongest presidential candidate to win the general election in a landslide victory hands down. This was trumped by Pelosi’s rigged nomination for Obama.
The key for Obama to win in November lies with Sen. Clinton’s supporters in the swing states; for Obama, that key is lost for 2008 but it opens the door to 2012 for Sen. Clinton, when she can reform the corrupt Democratic Party.

Please do not do it.
This is the typical Obama placed, david Xelrod driven story. They want to get the heat off Obama because he has a pattern of lying, half-truths and exaggerating… The fact is that anyone can go to an Anti-War Rally when they’re stumping for votes to become a Senator.

I don’t think Hillary has a choice but to at least publicly support Obama, as all of the party know it alls have pretty much put her in a vice and are tightening down the screws if she doesn’t. The way she and Bill have been badmouthed and ridiculed in the press, by Obama’s campaign, and supporters, she does have a lot of class to be able to go out tomorrow and endorse him at all, let alone enthusiastically. I still say the bloom will be off of the rose in a few months, and there will be lots of regrets. My prediction is that 2 years from now,if Obama is elected, there will have been little of the change that people expect, but maybe some they didn’t want. The only good thing to come out of it will have been so many can say “I told you so.” He’s already starting to change his tune on a lot of things, and even the press got ticked off with him last night (although I think that is sort of funny.)

Just like they were sabotaging Sen. Clinton to drop out, I say to the Democratic Party drop out of the presidential election. The Republican Party is the chosen winner.

Oh, I’m just poking a bit of fun at Kerry’s “hammas” typo. Nothing more, nothing less. I would’ve made the same comment had the same typo came from an Obama supporter.

I hope she does not get the vp it will make it easy to vote Mccain. Obama should pick Jim Webb Or pick another woman .So I can really vote Mccain And as far as debt goes she will write a book and since she got more votes than any one ever in a primary race even the men she will make millions .She is the one who truly made History she ran with every force against her and still won.

Posted by: Bishop | June 6, 2008, 4:30 pm 4:30 pm

Michelle said she didnt think she could support Hillary if she got the nomintation. So Michelle we dont think we can support BAM BAM now either. The Obamas are certainly becoming arrogant and uppity now. BAM BAM thinks he’ll be President if the Olympics come here in 2016. Too too funny..

Posted by: jimbo | June 6, 2008, 4:31 pm 4:31 pm

Hillary would be a total woo-se if she accepts the VP. VP’s are practically invisible, and have to suck up to the President every day that they are not fundraising or attending foreign dignitary’s funerals. She should ask for a cabinet position like Sec of State. Much more powerful and involved in the administration at Cabinet level strategy meetings. She would have considerably less power as VP than she did all those years as First Lady. Don’t do it HIllary.

Posted by: Nancy | June 6, 2008, 4:33 pm 4:33 pm

I’m your supporter and I’m proud of you. You’re a real leader that care the real issues matter to the daily people life instead of your personal ambition. You’re a NOMINEE OF 18 million population and Obama is a nominee of democrat leaders and pundits. You’re always in my heart and hope you will come back in 2012 or 2016.

Posted by: Stephanie | June 6, 2008, 4:38 pm 4:38 pm

I think Hillary only wants to be asked to be VP, so that she can then turn down Obama, and she would then go public with the details through her surrogates. She then will half-heartedly campaign for him, continue to build her resume, talk herself up as a populist, and prepare for her next presidential run in 2012. Sounds a bit like John Edwards long range plan as well, as he says he won’t accept the VP slot if offered. Edwards, in the meantime, wants to be Attorney General under Obama.

Posted by: Jack | June 6, 2008, 4:40 pm 4:40 pm

I start to get the impression that some Hillary voters are so dumb that they didn’t know where they were voting for with Hillary. Now they are surprised and angry that Hillary will support Obama?! Of course she will; he is fighting for HER issues as well, and they share the same political enemies: the GOP, Bush, John McCain. And remember how early in the race Hillary actually offered the VP spot to Obama? She’s been an Obama admirer and a McCain hater ALL the time. You didn’t notice? Then you certainly are dumb.

Posted by: gregory | June 6, 2008, 4:53 pm 4:53 pm

John Edwards is not interested in the VP slot because he doesnt want to lose a second time. Remember kerry/edwards?

Posted by: brigitte | June 6, 2008, 5:00 pm 5:00 pm

What I do not undersatnd now is why all of a sudden both DNC and Obama want Hillary to help!
She is NOT required to campaign for him, but I know she’d do it because AGAIN she’s being pressured!
And that fraud Obama should have ALREADY offered the veep slot to her! What is he waiting?? Doesn’t that bozo realize that the woman is willing to stump for him “every day” if that’s what it takes for him to win, AND he’s still hesitating?!?!?
Obama is not only a fraud, but he’s also an ingrate!
I’ll tell you this. He’s threatened by Hillary, because he knows she’s smarter and more qualified. So in the end he’ll pick somone who won’t eclipse his aura of greatness.

I moved to this country from Britain and used to love America so much, until the Bush years, and now there is a wonderful chance to make this country great again and beloved around the world and these people would sooner hand over the election to a man who will be another Bush just because their candidate lost an extremely close election. I am heartbroken and cannot see how you can live with yourselves if you allow racism and spite to overwhelm your intelligence.

Posted by: Elizabeth | June 6, 2008, 5:16 pm 5:16 pm

I perfectly understand that, in honor to your political viability, you have to campaign on Obama’s behalf. I respect your rationale and commend you for your solid philosophical stand. Furthermore, you are a beautiful woman, smart, well educated, and very attractive. In short, you should not have anything that prevents me to be your most passionate follower. However, we must not forget that we (your followers) are beings with moral principles as well, and we make decisions according to them.
Hillary, I’ve never allowed anyone to use me as an accessory to any crime and I’m not going to do it now, even if the most beautiful and intelligent woman in the world ask me to do it. I am not going to validate with my sacred vote a piracy act. My vote in November will be undecided.

A lot of us Clinton supporters do indeed feel disappointed because of the DNCs actions and favoritism for obama, but really can’t do much about it now. I will support Hillary Clinton even after the general election. But to me, and please note this, MANY, MANY of her supporters, we will not vote for obama. He is not presidential material, is unvetted and has already demanded that no one talk about his wife, his church, his preachers, his anti-American associates, and everyone has rolled over for him. I have never cared for any type of politician that the MSM has purposely avoided vetting, hiding and not printing of information about a favorite candidate and the horrible habit of trashing another candidate in the rudest possible way. I think that in intself is just un-American.
These supporters, no matter what Hillary wants, will not vote for obama. Look for a lot of these people not to vote at all or voting for John McCain, which is what I will do.
Never obama – never.

I predicted it! Read the new article titled ‘Clinton Kabuki Dance’ by Howard Fineman on Newsweek Online. She doesn’t want to be VP, just that the VP slot be formally ‘offered’ to her by Obama, so that she can then openly decline it! This is the so-called orchestrated Kabuki dance that they will play that will make both of them happy. Hillary is not interested in playing second fiddle again. She’s also insisting that Obama NOT name another woman as VP (wonder why?). Fascinating stuff.

Hillary will campaign enthusiasticly for Barack Obama. To save her political career. If she doesn’t go all out for him and he loses or if she does go all out and he loses because her supporters voted for McCain her career in politics is over. You see, her tactics against Obama that praised McCain and her disregarding Obama’s 20 yrs in public service, when she knew she would not win. But, if she helps him win and overcome the damage she has done to him, she will live to run another day or get the supreme court, maybe Bill too. She is a politician afer all.

Your selfish act and short sightedness hurts more people than you can ever realize. And if you do realize it and still do it that shows a deep discontent for you follower americans. I’ll be out the Navy soon and will have my retirement to fall back on, but a lot of americans don’t have that convience. John McCain is a serious blunder and potential danger to our country and if you don’t believe me just join up and see for yourself. For Hillary it is about the issues. She will deliver on her promise to campaign every day for Obama.
Now let’s see if Obama gives Hillary’s supporters the respect they deserve by making her the VP nominee.
The impact of the media bias whether it be sexism or just Obama pandering cannot be discounted. Now will the press right itself or agressively attack McCain?
Either way this was a different kind of election….”the wait and see” attitude for a VP will not work here….Obama will lose Hillary supporters to McCain if he drags this process out….shoot they are on McCains webpage offering to volunteer and helping start an outreach to Hillary voters…They are practically decorating over there with suggestions on how to revamp the McCain site…
I repeat this is a different kind of election…with the venom directed towards Hillary voters …especially the constant implications that they are all ignorant racists (an idea Obama reinforced with his “bitter” comments) and the press brought home when they constantly tried to prove it with exit polls and ignored the question of who would vote for a woman…
These voters feel like the Reagan Democrats felt that their party has left them.
Take your time Obama once Hillary voters start contibuting to McCain and making calls for him they won’t be coming back!

Posted by: Jackie | June 7, 2008, 2:17 am 2:17 am

Nope. The media is already trying to spin the clinton voters moving to Obama.
But this is the REAL problem.
They voted for Clinton because they dont want Obama. They dont know him, or trust him .
They look at Obama and Mc Cain and choose Mc Cain.
Obama’s vp pick other than hillary clinton doesnt do anything in the slightest.
The whole point is to get VOTERS . Unless its clinton, forget it. There is nobody who can make up for the serious problems Obama has with several major groups.
Obama supporters dont understand it because they are liberals. Liberals cannot for the life of them figure out why clinton dems would choose mc cain.
This is the problem with a far left liberal candidate and a far right conservative candidate.
Mc Cain is in the middle.
As far as conservatives not liking Mc Cain? he isnt conservative enough?
So they would rather have the freshmen liberal senator with no experience, a freaky preacher and angry wife????
Not.

Terry comment represents Clinton’s aspiration for power. First of all she has to recognise the fact that she lost the race. The reality is that Obama didn’t make any offers. She is one that is trying to offer her services. Her logic is in line with “Better anything than nothing”. Obama knows her way of thinking and eventually will accept her offer for the pure “trade of votes” reason or dismiss such an idea by being alert of possible “Trojan Horse” effects.

To those who say Obama didn’t win the nomination. Without the superdelegates Clinton couldn’t have won, even with the full seating of Michigan and Florida delegates. Like it or not Obama deserves to be the Democratic Party nominee, at least as much as Hillary does, and as he has more delegates it shouldn’t be denied to him.
I believe that it would be best for everyone if Hillary is not on the ticket in November, whilst campaing for Obama. Firstly I think Hillary can do more remaining in the Senate and being a force for change, especially on healthcare, there. Secondly I don’t think Hillary’s negatives would assist the Democrats this year. And finally I don’t think a two headed monster ever works in a presidential election. The country will need to know who the President is going to be, and having an Obama/Clinton ticket will not make that as clear as possible.
I think pick a name from the following list and the Democratic Party will win in November; Ed Rendell, Jim Webb, Bill Richardson, Janet Napolitano, Wesley Clark and Tim Kaine.

So your argument is that we should have voted for a weak person who succombs to pressure? Hmm, that’s why we didn’t vote for Hillary — get it?! She’s bought and paid for and we wanted somebody who’s got the American people’s back, not the lobbyists and corporation’s.

“Hillary fans love to complain about Michelle Obama’s
statement that she’d ‘have to think long and hard’
over whether she’d be able to vote for Hillary.

I’m not sure what Ferraro said, but Michelle Obama was asked whether she’d go out and campaign for Hillary.  And that’s the question she answered.  She was NOT asked whether or not she’d vote for Hillary over McCain.

At this moment, the stake is too high for our country. Two wars, deficit, energy crisis, housing market, morgage crisis, food price, our standing in the world … We need urgently a complete turn around! While deciding who to vote for, put the interest of the country first. Through out the campaign, who has demonstrated the temper, judgment and skill to lead?

I really do not understand those people, able to come from clinton to McCain… I do not even believe they are democrat… besides, Michelle Obama can say whatever she wants she will not be the president in any cases… hence, hence what s the point, what kind of ridiculous argument, hahaha. that’s simply not making any sense… my neighbor said also he would not have supported Clinton… so what?

The party pundits pushes the Clintons around for too long. We shall never forget the 90s and shall never forgive the BO vipers for smearing the record. We haven’t finished with the BO vipers yet. We shall lash out at the BO campaign. It is personal because they made it so.
President McCain; Nobama 08.
Sink the undemocratic party with their fraud nominee.

We will never vote for Obama. Our whole family is voting for war hero John McCain who really respect women.
If Obama loses the general election, she will likely re-run in 2012.

I dislike McAuliffe, Carville and a whole host of other Clinton backers.
They just don’t seem to “get it” when it comes to issues.
Loyalty to politicians rather than yourself is something they hold as a principle first and foremost. I find something self-defeating in their way of thinking. I find it similar to the chronism of the Bush administration.

Awesome news. I totally am beginning to believe that the Dream Ticket could win in November. If OBAMA is for it I support it.
