Obama Asks Top Moneyfolks to Help Clinton Retire Her Debt
ABC News has learned that on a conference call with his national finance team this afternoon, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, asked his top contributors to help Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, retire her more than $10 million in outstanding vendor debt. He did not specify an amount.
Clinton’s debt has been a major point of contention as the two former rivals attempt to reconcile.
Clinton will appear at an Obama fundraiser Thursday night in Washington, D.C., and the two will campaign together in Unity, NH, on Friday.

Unbelievable!! She drags out the primaries, insulting Obama, including that completely ungracious “non-concession” speech, AFTER she knew she had no chance of winning!! The Clintons made $110 million in the last few years!!! Let her pay her own vendors!!! She’s so NOT a feminist icon, why do these women think she is? She’s no Ann Richards or Maxine Waters; she just married some guy — more like Yoko Ono if you ask me. Forget it!!!! Besides, it’s not like she was gracious about it, she’s not even being a good sport now!!!

Give it your best shot. The support for Hillary is strong but the disappointment in the DNC over the delegate rigging (michigan? puhleeze!) and standing by silent while Clinton was pummeled by a sexist press, Obama’s use of the Jay-Z songs, the whole arrogant inevitability mantra is not going to be forgotten.
Anyone up for being called a racist or bigot again by a red-faced squealing Obama supporter?
Enough is enough. Vote your conscience.

“She claims 18 million supporters in her pocket, well let them contribute 1 dollar each to their prima-donna!

As a former Hillary supporter, I will contribute nothing to pay off Hillary’s debts, Obama has bought her support, so pay for it!
Most of Hillary’s fans have become Independent voters like my family..and guess what, Obama, his supporters, DNC and Hillary can not buy our votes!

18 million can you spare a dollar, a dime, a penny to support Hillary?
Yeah, thought not… You just wanted to keep the primary running to weaken Obama.

I think it’s time to transition from the energy and goal of the primaries to the new place where we are at now. Reconciliation and teamwork. I’m an Obama supporter and I am also in awe of the history Hillary has made and I’m glad she completed all the primaries. I see that as a positive in the end. I made a contribution to her campaign to help out. Gestures like that help change our focus and redirect our energy. Now, it’s up to all of us to move this ball forward. Let’s catch the biggest prize now – the White House. We’ll have to work together to do that. I’d like to do that, will you, too?

Senator Clinton should charge Senator Obama a million dollar an hour for getting up and saying what a good man he is when he is not. He is a very corrupt politican from the Chicago political/criminal machine. He is not a democrat but a radical socialist. And now he even wants her contributors to add to his campaign cash. the act in politics of the winner retiring the debt of the loser is nothing new. it may be new to some of you, obama retired bill richardson’ debt
and maybe some of the others that have not been talked about.
and Mandy must have just fell off the turnip truck to think all there has ever been to sen. clinton is bill clinton. she was well on her way to doing good for people in need well before she met bill clinton.
and she will continue to help people in need.
to say she is selfish-you don’t know her
and i doubt you can convience some of the black kids who are able to stay in hbcu because of the fundraising the clintons did to keep them open. and i doubt you can convience some aids patient, that the clintons are bad, after they have helped aids patients have more affordable meds.
sen. clinton will always be current in any market, as long as she wants to.
if she retired today from public, her chapter good and bad have already been recorded in the history books, and no amount of your hate can change that.
Posted by: jgaw | June 24, 2008, 8:41 pm 8:41 pm
did any of you sen. clinton haters know that sen. clinton has been asked by obama and co. to intro him to some of her top money fundraisers?
no i’ll bet you did not know that.
these politician (obama included) are and will be old school politics when it comes to the money.
sen. clinton will get her debt paid off, eventually, (just as many of you may have had slow bill repayment)
but obama cannot win without the moneybackers sen. clinton will bring.
so obama supporters don’t be to hateful to sen. clinton.
obama needs her and her backers, more than she needs him.

What has your Obambi done in his 3 short years as a US Senator? not a damn thing to brag about, and he now wants to be president – what a pity for this country. In regards to retiring the debts, they’re exchanging favors: he helps with the primary debt, she’s bringing her donors in for the general election. It is what it is, politics.

I really don’t know what Obama and his campaign thinks. We are suffering economically in this country. Now, if all of Hillary’s other supporters want to kick in a buck I’ll be happy to as well, but otherwise I’m tapped out. Both sides raised tons of money during the primary and I can’t see where they think we have any more. Just like Obama refusing public financing money because he thinks he is going to raise 500 million. I think he’s crazy. No one I know has any more to give. And for what? To run the I’m just a white kid from Kansas ads? All of the old wore out farts in the DNC that were in the paper or on tv every day saying she should quit needs to get out their checkbooks and help her out. If this campaign had run it’s natural course all the way to the convention, she would still be raising money on her own.

This is absurd! Why he is doing this is beyond me. Maybe he is trying to show his true character. Maybe he is trying to use this to mend the party. However, Hillary supporters will remain bitter and still not vote for our nominee come November. That’s what’s so sad about these supporters. They think Obama is the one behind the media’s portrayal of their beloved “savior”. I would help her retire her debt AFTER November has run it’s course. This way, either we get Change in office or Hillary and her supporters can stuff it.

Please, is it going to be that we find out, once again, how the elite favor the elite, and then only do so to keep their elite status alive. Why do I feel like there is something going on that we all should know about that completely betrays the personas portrayed of the elitists, or should I say the powers to be, in election-time, personality sales blitzes in all the different types of media. It just reaffirms my belief that we vote blindly and never know what we will get until it is too late. Yes, we should vote, but it racks my brain to think of how we can do so and truly know the platforms and realize the promised adherences to those platforms.
For everything I see positive, I learn of the true negativity that will result from the alleged good idea. I can think of countless ways that that commitee should retire various debts. Just the actual retired citizens alone could get more benefit out of a retired $10, 000,000.00 debt than one “on the team” member. If only those folks knew what it was like to have to rob Peter to pay Paul just to get to work where you earn only enough to keep Paul from knowing Peter. Sure, they remember bad times, but why is it in their good times they forget all of us that still live those bad times, day in and day out?
Please, do not be so obviously ludicrous. While you are at it, what is up with those light bulbs that we are going to be told to use in the very near future? Maybe 10 million dollars can help us resolve that future calamity from hurting the people that the elitists supposedly work for!

Who are these people that keep comparing Hillary to Yoko Ono? Hillary is a well-educated woman, incredibly intelligent and talented – fresh out of college she chose serving the disadvantaged over a position at a pricey law firm. She’s spent her entire adult life fighting for the rights and betterment of women and children. She has served the people of New York beautifully as their senator. She has a horny husband and like MILLIONS of women chose to keep her marriage together and raise her daughter, rather than to divorce. She held her head high when he brought scandal to the White House. I don’t understand why so many people are threatened by a strong, intelligent woman. When she’s aggressive you scream the B word, when she’s sensitive you scream that it’s fake…the same qualities that you admire in a male politician. There is NO perfect candidate – not Hillary, not Barack, and not McSame. None of their hands are completely clean and none of them are going to solve everyone’s problems. Research the issues, decide which are most important to you and make your choice based on the candidates’ voting history and work. Pretty simple. You don’t have to hate the others to like one. Stop spreading lies and chain emails. Grow the h*** up.

Brady Lacy, I love Hillary, hate Obama, not because she is white woman and he is black man. No, that’s not the reason.
I hate to see somebody can be president in #1 country in the world so easily. I
want to see somebody who worked hard for many years, who is one of most influential person in his area, who has been vetted for many years, who showed love to this country for many years, throughout many generations of his family, this kind of person to be US. president.
Hillary is one of the most influential senators in US, and she met other criterias above. Obama doesn’t meet these.
If another black man is candidate, i.e. Collin Powell, I will like him very much.
But I hate Obama, period! I hate the rock star.

Great post, Nancy. This Obama supporter would have voted for Hillary had she won the nomination because her stance on issues is light years closer to the guy I supported and his stance on issues than McCain’s. To vote for McCain because one is upset that their candidate didn’t win is lame and very shortsighted. A McCain presidency will decimate women’s rights, civil rights, the national economy, and probably lead right into another stupid land war in Asia….right there in Iran.
Grow up people. Get your tears dried up. Get your brains turned back on. Vote on issues, not on emotions from a long-gone primary season.

Brady Lacy:“Democrats who are voting for McCain just wanted a White female to be President. They are going to look silly voting for McCain when Hillary, Bill and Chelsea are voting for Obama. These deserters are mental defects-bad wiring in the brain, can’t reason, or maybe they are just sick racist who are in a lot of pain that an African American is running for President. That is so sad. Let’s pray they get well.”
Keep talking and trashing us will not help your savior Obama. Compared to Obama’s supporters, Hillary’s fans are more independent. They are not brainwashed and ignorant! Obama’s supporters always play the race card when Obama get criticized. It’s not about race or sex at all. It’s about who is the most qualified to be the next President. A check of credential shows Obama to be severely lacking qualification. He is unfit to be a President of this great nation!

I think it’s magnanimous for Senator Obama to ask HIS donors to help pay Clinton’s VENDOR debts, because most are small business owners as I once was until my retirement, and we do hate having to deal with bad debt’s. Thank goodness he didn’t ask them to pay Mark Penn’s debt. While I am a former Republican now Obama supporter, and this is probably good in the long run, it still rubs me wrong that those who supported Hillary with such a fervor, can’t now find it in their hearts to continue their support by ponying up a few bucks, so Bill won’t have to

Sources say, Obama campaign confirms Al Gore has been designated as the “heavy-weight” to handle the thorny relations with both DNC Chairman Howard Dean and Senator Hillary Clinton. The sources confirm that a virtual state of war exists between the Obama campaign and Howard Dean, over the DNC chairman’s savaging of the party’s finances, and his jealous attempts to hold onto power, in the face of Obama campaign demands that the main DNC functions be relocated to Obama headquarters in Chicago. There are also reports that a true “falling out” is unfolding between DNC Chairman Dean and billionaire George Soros.
Sources also confirm that the general oligarghy’s plan is to have Al Gore become the Dem nominee at August convention. The oligarghy simply used Obama to stop Hillary Clinton from winning the Democratic Presidential nomination, and once that has been accomplished, they intend to throw Obama overboard, through any one of the many scandals they have set to unleash, through such British media operatives as Rupert Murdoch. The very same “Beaverbrook” press apparatus that built Obama up, to unseat Hillary Clinton, is prepared to bring him down. The problem for oligarghy remains, however, that Hillary Clinton is not altogether out of the race, as her legions of loyal supporters have shown, by their efforts to force an open convention in Denver. Were Obama to be brought down, Hillary Clinton would remain the only legitimate alternative–in the eyes of the vast majority of Democratic and independent voters. It is no secret, in Democratic Party inner circles, that Al Gore is positioning himself to step into the vacuum, if Obama is forced out before the late August convention in Denver. Gore is the oligarghy’s “ace in the hole,” to assure that Hillary Clinton, with her 18 million backers, is blocked from the nomination.
While some of Senator Obama’s leading campaign operatives understand that they are now in a battle with Howard Dean, there is no indication, as of yet, that they understand the threat posed by oligarchy’s asset Al Gore. A 900 pound fox has just been given the keys to the Obama hen-house.

HELL NO! I won’t help retire her 10M debt. That’s her stupid fault for staying in so long and keeping her campaign going after her funds ran out. Good thing she won’t get the nomination of the Dems, and go to the White House, because if that’s her idea of running a solid campaign through debt what would she have done as president to help solve the debt for the country. It just demonstrate she had fiscal policies were not sound. It servers her right.

Reading these loaded statements is sickening. Both parties are garbage, McCain will attack Iran and undo the “savings” he may produce with domestic off-shore drilling, and both Dem candidates will spend more time thinking about the precedents they have succeeded in setting by taking office than actually focusing on the betterment of the good ol’ USA. Its a lose-lose situation, but at least they are all more eloquent than GWB.

And to all of you Democrats who have now changed sides or hate Obama and will vote independent. Your votes for change will be lost, my friends. You all need to “Build a bridge and get over it”, as a mentor of mine once told me.
Ask yourselves, “What needs to change? My vote or the person in the White House?” That is the main focus of this election! Not all the other stuff being spewed out here. Democrats, we need to focus on:

Danged if you do and danged if you don’t. You all can best believe that Obama and his advisors knew that their would be four sides of understanding in dealing with Hillary’s campaign debt. 1)To assist her would harbor claims that he’s buying her support. 2)To assist her would show the party has unified and are willing to work together on common grounds. 3)Allow her to pay her own debt and be accused of being less than a uniter(which is how he got this far). 4)Allow her to pay her own debt and show that he doesn’t need her support and risk the the arrogant elitist claim. All are tough because all will draw some form of negativity and raised eyebrows. Now, as sensible people and I’m sure some with strategic planning skills, would you not have chosen #2?

It is amazing reading some of the comments sent in by the Obama
supporters concerning Senator Clinton debt. However, they need her to try to convince her supporters to vote for Senator Obama in November 2004. I supported Senator Clinton but in November I will sit this election out. I do not want Senator McCain to be elected. However, I do not want a second Jimmy Carter elected either. Remember President Carter was going to bring Washinton together. President George W. Bush stated the same thing too. I am amazed how the voters keep falling for the same lines just change the names and receive the same fail polices. Give me a break whoever wins in November 2008 will be a one term President.

Why are you people willing to vote for the very opposite (John McCain) of Hillary Clinton. I think people should take a very good look at the real reason you are not willing to vote for Obama. Even Hillary Clinton is saying I support Obama much more than McCain. If Hillary has such great supporters, how did her campaign end up in debt, and shouldnt they say something for Obama. He ran a great campaign, and nobody can take that from him. How a canidate runs there campaign says alot about them. Again why would you vote for McCain when his policies are totaling different from Clinton, who has a similiar voting record to Obama. So I am voting for the canidate who shares my values and policies, not for the other guy who doesnt. I guess some people would rather a 3rd Bush term rather that someone who actually agrees with Hillary Clinton on most policies, than vote for a BI-RACIAL (BLACK) MAN! Lets be honest.

How righteous for non Hillary supporters to scoff at this debt…true she owes alot of money but who suffers? I expect it will be paid in time but these small business owners could do with their debts being settled now (just like any of us would want). These small businesses are us or our next door neighbors. Whether they supported her or not transactions were done in good faith with expectations of a debt settled. Stop bitching about who might be the better candidate – maybe Mr Obama’s appeal is just to get the business owners paid…it’s just the wheel of politics, going round and round.

Obama vanquished Hillary and the least she could do was to have her self-respect intact by refusing Obama begging on their behalf.
Obama desperately needs her supporters; and could easily part with 20 million dollars from his cache for this. Yet it looks as if he is doing her a favor.
Greed and self-respect are polar opposites.

However, Hillary supporters will remain bitter and still not vote for our nominee come November. That’s what’s so sad about these supporters. They think Obama is the one behind the media’s portrayal of their beloved “savior”. I would help her retire her debt AFTER November has run it’s course. Posted by: Kim | June 25, 2008, 12:22 am 12:22 am
I think this is only for political tactic to get Hillary’s supporters.
$10 millions is easy for him.
He can just withdraw from his campaign money.
In the other words he wants Hillary’s supporters think he is doing a favor for their candidate and for the return is just support him in the GE.

She wouldn’t have the debt if she would have just step aside.
I don’t agree with this at all, SHE has millions to throw away then take the hit.

Obama wants to help Hillary as bad as he wants to help himself; then will Obama pick Hillary as a running mate? It just the end of June right, he still has plenty of time to think to pick and choose!

Obama is the brilliant one who is the smartest. If not, then how did he win the nomination without debt. If Obama loses, America loses-Big time. The whole world wants Obama to win. They are watching and hoping. All humans want to live in peace, even Hamas

Sir Winston Churchill said “The truth is irrefutable. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is”. You can lie on Obama, all you want, but the truth will still be there. He is a Christian,is Brilliant, is the legal winner of the primaries, is the best one to be President, is nice, kind, down to earth, generous, truthful, honest, and loves America.

As a Republican, I am very disgusted with how my party has handled itself over the last 8 years. This year I am voting for Barack Obama for President of the United States of America. I was also for Hillary in the beginning, however, Barack’s message and the way he carried himself was more inspirational and his plans for the Country were more meaningful. Barack should not help Hillary as she was reckless in her ways during the primary but if this is a way to help mend fences so be it.

Good for Hillary in getting help with the debt. It takes the pressure off of all of us who have been helping to retire the debt. Ole money bags won’t miss 10 million, but just think what some of his supporters could have done with it. It is still NO to the Obama for me as it was in the beginning. I have never changed my point of view. 1st choice Hillary, 2nd choice McCain, and uh-oh the Obama. This has been my order since McCain won the Republican nomination. I am steadfast and very settled in with this.

What debt? She loaned her campaign this money and now she wants other people to pay it back to her. She’s still worth millions. How greedy can you get? If Obama asks others to do this for her then it shows something is wrong with him too. What kind of game is he playing? We are in a terrible fix with the choices we now have for the presidency!!!

Why should Obama pay for Clinton’s ignorance. She knew she couldn’t win for the last 2 months but she decided to press on anyway. She is the result of Rush Limbaugh asking republicans to vote for Hilliary. First she cried cause she lost the 1st primary. Second she cried about being asked to relent, which would’ve been fiscally responsible. Now she crying cause she decided to press on and waste more money. Obama pay for my debt and I and Slick Willy will endorse you. If the race was as close as she made it out to be, why is she so far behind money wise? Go away Hilliary!

18 million people voted for hillary…almost the identical number of people who voted bho. bho call for help with hillary’s debt is very self serving. if he encourages her debt paid, he figures he will buy her votes.
i will not vote bho in november for the same reason i did not for him in the primary. it is not a women issue, or a race issue. it is an integrity issue.

Let’s not forget how much of her debt is owed directly to herself– she chose to have her campaign “borrow” several million dollars of her own assets (I don’t know what interest rate she charged her campaign for these loans). I wonder how much of what Obama ponies up will go straight into the Clintons’ swelling accounts…
Posted by: David | June 25, 2008, 6:21 am 6:21 am
First of all, this is a blackmail by the Clintons, “If you don’t bring some money over, we will make sure McCain wins”.
This is probably the first time in national politics that a loser asks a winner to pay for the cost of TV commercials attacking the winner. What’s next? If McCain loses, should he ask Obama pay for the campaign cost in the name of national unity after election?

What this REALLY represents is the Clinton’s demand for extortion money. What she’s REALLY saying is “Obama, if you pay off all of my campaign debts, plus maybe a little extra for my effort, I’ll convince my gullible voter base that maybe you really aren’t such a bad guy after all. If you DON’T meet my demands, then I’ll re-work the offer and hand my voters over to McCain. It’s your choice!” SHE MAKES ME SICK, SICK, SICK!!

It’s so funny to see Republican gesticulating in their little fish bowl. They were so proud to say in 2000 and 2004 that Bush has raise so much money. Now that Obama raise the most money they are infuriated. Double standard? get over it, my friends ;-)

You better hope Obama doesn’t win this election. There is something about him that just isn’t right. All I hear from Obama is, I will bring change. What change is that? A turn for the worse? I can’t put my finger on it but he just carries himself like he has a hidden agenda. McCain will probably die the first month in office so I guess we are really screwed no matter who we vote in.

Senator Clinton took a gamble with her husbands and other people’s money long after any rational person would keep the campaign going and spending. She took a gamble 8 months ago when she affirmed that the Michigan and Florida votes would not count if the violated the rules … until she realized that she would need them.
It seems she liked to gamble a lot at other people’s expense. Infer what you will about what might have been if she made it to the White House.
Why should others have to pay her gambling debts?

Hillary supporters don’t automatically migrate to Obama because we’re thinking people – not sheep of the Democratic party. Obama is too radical for many of us – and he’ll prove too radical for many who voted for him should he be elected. Kind of like all those people who voted for Bush and now regret it.

Posted by: LongT | June 25, 2008, 9:15 am 9:15 am
It is typical for rivals to help the other retire debt after primary process because it makes for party unity towards general election.
At the same time, it is reported that if only 20% of Hillary’s 18 million voters sit out or vote McCain, Obama loses in November. That is only about 4 million voters.
Sources say, Al Gore may try to become the Dem nominee when Obama may be driven out by his own scandals unleased by media. Apparently Obama’s only role is to rid Hillary, then self destruct so Gore will waltz in and claim the nomination in August.
What do you think?

As some may have already noted, I would much rather retire Clinton than her debt – especially as quite a chunk of it was money she “loaned” to her campaign. Let her walk away free can clear from a campaign she decided to drag on? I don’t think so.

Don’t get it twisted. Obama says to those that are “so inclined” to give to Clinton. I will not contribute to a woman that continued on with a race that was essentially over, putting herself into debt. I feel bad for all the sandwhich shops she stiffed, but there is no way I would help to pay her back what she put in to her campaign.

If Obama really wants to make a change.
He would tell Hillary “you dug your hole now climb in and cover it”. Then take the $10 million dollars and donate it to the people of Illinois, Iowa and Missouri who have a desparate need for it. Wouldn’t that be a politcal shock showing he cares about the people.

There are laws governing the way donated campaign money can be spent and that is why Obama can’t just reach into his coffers and give Hillary some cash. People have to donate money directly to Hillary. I’m reluctant to do it based on principle. She dug herself into a hole, she can get herself out of it. I wouldn’t expect anyone to pay my debt. But I feel sorry for her and I’m a softy, so I’ll probably donate a few bucks to help out.

McCain is 12 points behind Obama in the most recent poll. McCain say’s he “likes being the underdog”. His campaign has no theme, it’s all over the place. He just responds to whatever is the hot issue for the day. No message, no cohesion, no direction, no passion. This is the best that the Republican party can produce?

to get some of Hillary’s 18 million voters to vote for Barrack.

I imagine many of you are young, but you need to think about this. We, Democrats will not win if we are not together. That means Obama will not be President.
Remember how close the last two elections were?
Well, the USA demographic are not going to change and we better be about bringing the Democrats together. Get your anger out by hitting a bag of laundry in the basement. You need to face it, as much as you are committed to Obama, 18 million people are committed to Hilary. If you are smart, you can use this to get your candidate elected. They have to get something out of this too.
Work with them. They care as much about this country as you do and for maybe longer!
