Obama Says GOP “Trying to Make Michelle Into a Scary Person”
At a posh fundraiser for the Democrat’s White House Victory Fund last night — $28,500 a head — at the fancy Lincoln Park abode of Sara and James Star in Lincoln Park, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, appreciatively noted the homemade nametag of former Leo Burnett advertising executive Rick Fizdale.
"They have these wonderful stickers that said, ‘Rick Hussein Fizdale,’" Obama said. "The theory was, we’re all ‘Hussein.’"
"But that accurately captures, I think, the strategy" Republicans are trying to use against him, Obama said. "Come on. They’re going to try to make me into a scary guy. They’re even trying to make Michelle into a scary person. Right? And so that drumbeat – we’re not sure if he’s patriotic or not, we’re not sure if he is too black. I don’t know, before I wasn’t black enough. Now he might be too black. We don’t know whether he’s going to socialize – well, who knows what.”
At a second fundraiser last night, Obama acknowledged a moment’s hesitation before venturing out Sunday on his bike in not his most flattering photo-op.
“I had an internal debate,” he said. “Because I knew that the A.P. was going to take a picture, and they were trying to portray it like Dukakis wearing that tank helmet. But I wanted to make sure that the children who saw that picture knew that even the Democratic nominee for president wears a helmet when he goes biking. Now, obviously the rest of my apparel was apparently not up to snuff, because I got a hard time from all sorts of blogs who said I looked like Urkel.”

Wasn’t Cindy the other woman before she became #2?
Isn’t she the doting wife who owns more of some countries, but won’t show us her tax returns?
I guess she won’t let hubby bomb some of them, as it might hurt her investments!

Urkel was a nerd. I love nerds! So much better than the captain of the football team.
McCain does not want to demonize Michelle Obama. Cindy McCain’s background is way scarier. Stelaing money from a childrens charity? What could be more pathetic. Family values? McCain is on real thin ice here.

Good grief, Jake. Wow are you in the tank for Sen. Obama or what? Are getting a tingling up your leg? Oh, those mean, nasty republicans. To hear the liberal media, the Democrats never attack or twist statements. C’mon Jake. You may be lefty, but you aren’t stupid. Don’t play us as stupid either. The right isn’t going to give you a medal for asking a Harry Reid a tough question one time. We need to see you be as tough on liberals and Democrats as you are on conservatives and Republicans on a consistent basis. And we ain’t seeing it.
And by the way, Rush did not report the alleged tape of Mrs. Obama as fact, but as rumor (the same as you). I trust your correct your blog.

Michelle Obama made herself scary–do not blame it on anyone else. When is the press going to open up on her activities and her thesis paper in college? She is too influential with her husband, but then he is evidently easily influenced by this type!!! Do we really want him and her in the White House?

Obama’s judgment over the years has shown his selection of friends, mentors and church, close advisers, and now his choice of consultants places a dark cloud over his ability to select a Cabinet. Sometimes all you have to evaluate a person is by their actions, manners, conduct, their associates and activities and in these realms Obama gets a 0.

Pick a subject:
The economy
The war
Gas Prices
Food Prices
Jobs
Global Warming

Melissa…I think Cindy McCain should be more proud that she had an affair with John while he was still married to his wife Carol. Research his life and see what kind of a person he really is. He got divorced and a month later married Cindy. That tells you something. War hero or not he has no character.

She’s married to the questionable BHO, isn’t she? And we’ve heard her big mouth and her references to “whitey.”
Posted by: Angel | June 13, 2008, 9:23 am 9:23 am
If we were to discusss the issues then you must place blame where blame is due and that is the 110th Congress (2006). The begining when the country started going to hell in a handbasket, my personal potfolio had increased by over 40 grand from 2002-2006 and since 2006 i have nearly lost it all, you can take Nancy Pelosis and Harry Reids talking points all you want but the fact still remains the economy, gas prices, unemplyment and inflation was in check before the 110th congress took over, but now you want to blame the republicans for EVERYTHING. I suggest you stop voting along party lines because your defending the same clowns that brought a large majority of this mess upon on us to begin with.

Has anyone read Michelle Obama’s Princeton thesis?
Posted by: charleysmims | June 13, 2008, 9:39 am 9:39 am
Michelle Obama’s college thesis at Princeton University is now on the internet, just Google it.
Both Sen. Obama and Michelle have written statements from their past. Some of their comments do raise questions. The main questions are: Do they still harbor these views? If so, then do we want our president and first lady espousing these views? If a white author had written these, and if the words “Black America” and the “Black community” were replaced with “White America” and the “White community,” would that white author and his wife be one election victory away from being president and first lady?
I believe that most of the American electorate will vote based on the issues. I, personally, will support Sen. McCain. He is not my ideal choice. I wish the Republican Party had a more articulate, charismatic and, frankly, a younger and more attractive candidate. But Sen. McCain will be the Republican nominee. I disagree with his stances on several issues. However, I will support him because, overall, he better suits my ideology and vision for America.
Posted by: James Danley | June 13, 2008, 9:42 am 9:42 am
Michelle does not need the GOP to make her scary, she has done this on her own. Personally I could not care less about Cindy having an affair with McCain. I was not there. They are married now and have children.
I do care about a woman such as Michelle, a big mouthed woman whose remarks are embarrassing to herself and her country.

Posted by: Linda | June 13, 2008, 9:42 am 9:42 am
Linda,
the book is real i have it BUT they are taken severely out of context..
the book is about growing up in a world as a mixed race during a time when race was still very heated and sides were clearly drawn by some whites and some blacks and not knowing where he fit into that world.. his struggle seeing both sides and feeling he fit into neither..
being bounced from one world to another and was a outsider to both.
Posted by: melissa | June 13, 2008, 9:44 am 9:44 am
Linda,
If you don’t know Obama’s history I can see how someone would say he seems friendly, but after you have done your research I imagine that you will see him differently. He is a politician of the worst kind.
In his book he talks about how he decided to start acting differently so that people would like him. Obama is not who he first appears to be.

Those who think it’s the Republicans who run on fear and smear should look at the Democrats. For years, they’ve been telling old people that the R’s will take their social security checks away from them (Obama did it about a month ago) and they’ve been telling poor people that the R’s will take their welfare checks away. Now, the Dems have a new fear tactic that they’re promoting: Global Warming. That’s right, elect R’s and the planet will burn to a crisp. Listen to Obama’s “This is the moment” speech. Elect him and the oceans will recede and we’ll finally start taking care of sick people (as opposed to the huge leper-type colonies we throw them in now, Barack?).
Posted by: Kafir | June 13, 2008, 9:50 am 9:50 am

Linda,
The GOP has nothing of substance to run on. They can’t talk about real issues, so they are resorting to FEAR again.
Do you notice that no one here talks about the issues?
The GOP main arugment this election will be “He’s black and blacks are scary”.
What they don’t understand is that they are the GOP and the GOP is scary.

@kafir, The Republican do want thoae things. Just read their economic policy. Tehy may not say it directly (typical Republican strategy) but privatizing SS WILL take the check away from those who have no financial management skills.
IT will take away the welfare checks of those people who actually need the, At least Obama wasnt to reform these entitlement program to work the way they should.

I do see these quotes all over the internet. I think I need to go to the library and see if they have this book. I know that he his half white and half black so why would he not like white people? That is odd. Does he say negative things about black people in the book too or just about white people?
I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt after those tapes of his preacher came out because he comes across as very unadulterated.
Posted by: Linda | June 13, 2008, 9:55 am 9:55 am
The only way the Democrats are going to win this election is to smear John McCain.
Let me take you and hang you by a strap with your arms bent backward and hit your bare feet with bamboo poles. I will do that for days. Then I will offer you a chance to go home if you will just sign a piece of paper. I will offer to feed the other people in the cellblock with you if you will read the paper in front of a camera.
You’ll say no? Then I will do it again.
Good luck with the Democratic smear campaigns. We’ll see what America believes when they see the films.

One thing about the left that is really sad is the way they create a controversy and then try to blame it on Republicans. It really shows that they have no respect for the intelligence of other liberals.
Larry Johnson made up this “whitey” smear to make Michelle Obama look “scary”. He’s a former CIA Clinton loyalist who, at the eleventh hour, made up some garbage to try to get his boss the nom.
Obama must think liberals are really stupid if he thinks he can rewrite history and source this smear made up entirely by Larry “Rove has 36 business hours before being arrested” Johnson. Then again, maybe Obama is right.

Do tell, Jason, how it is that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote and yet Obama is poised to become the nominee?
In 2000 democrats were all geared up to abolish the Electoral College, and now they are crowning their king based on the same theory that mob rule should not determine the president.

Nothing is scarier than the idea of four to eight more years of the current administration or A Nightmare at 1600. That is exactly what we will have if McCain is elected president. He said it doesn’t matter how long our troops stay in Iraq. He voted against extending unemployment benefits for people in need. He believes that victimized homeowners deserve blame for the housing crisis. He does not believe that women are entitled to equal pay for equal work. He refused to vote for a bill that would have guaranteed equal pay for same job for women. He believes that Roe vs. Wade should be overturned. To me, nothing is more frightening than a John McCain presidency.

Michelle Obama brought this whole scary persona on herself due to her own actions and words stumping on the campaign trail. The fact that Obama can’t see it provides insight into how he never heard a word of hatred from Rev. Wright’s pulpit or never saw anything wrong with hanging around with an unrepentent homegrown bomber. His judgement and powers of observation are sorely lacking in one who would be POTUS.

Michelle Obama comes across as a very arrogant and self-centered woman. When she said that it was the first time she was pround of America, it was because HER husband was doing well in the primaries. When Barack was questioned about the reasons that he did not leave Jeremiah Wright’s church, she said that the discussion did not help HER children. She goes out and criticizes the whole country, calls America a country full of mean people, and then whines about how people don’t like HER.
Well, she’s right about that – most people don’t like her. I wonder why?

I thought it was back in the thirties when SS was first created. After quite a few of these opt-outs occurred, the federal gov’t made it mandatory. Hence my question for Jason: If SS is so great and so well run, why is it mandatory? I can understand making contributions to a retirement plan mandatory, but why to this one pyramid scheme?

My last comments here why would michelle wants to be the first lady of a country that she hasn’t been proud of, a down-right mean country, a country that could just kill her husband at the gas station just because he’s black??? Those were all her words. For a woman who told hillary if she cannot handle her husband, how is she going to handle the country sounds to be like an attack. She also attack the GOP (unless chelsea clinton who doesn’t attack her mom’s opponents so she deserved to be left alone). But if you’re become a militant, then don’t expect other to spare you. It’s a fair game. If Cindy makes speeches and attack Dem then by all means, take her down as well. So you liberals can just stop being hypocrites. Simple example, if you slap me, be sure i’ll slap you back.

Smear and negative attack ads win elections in America and the Republicans are better at it than the Democrats. The irony is that the Republican party portrays itself as being the party of values..but they are better at spreading lies and propoganda. The so called conservatives use talking points everyday throughout the country and they do so consistently based on the premise that a lie repeated often enough would eventually be believed by many and in the case of Americans who like to portray themselves as the most advanced people on the face of the earth(wink,wink..please!) Most Americans believe the lies hook, line and sinker. The Republicans understand that in a country with the National Enquirer selling millions of copies every year..It seems that a lot of Americans are gullable and would believe anything..ask the Nigerian crooks who send emails to Americans promising money and many Americans fall for it and have lost millions of dollars. Why are people surprised when you chose George W twice to be your president and the economy is in tatters yet you are planning on voting for McCain who is part of the establishment that have the country in the current situation. I predict that the Republicans are going to triumph again in November despite the current economic situation in the country..simply because the Republicans are better at the game of spreadin lies, smear and personal attacks. That is what wins General Elections and the Republicans have perfected the art/Science. Get ready for John McCain and when you feel the pain, don’t complain..it would be like Bush all over again. Vote you so called smart people and get what you deserve..war,war,war. No domestic policy just war. You love war! Vote McCain.

A far-left version of what we’ve had for the last eight years isn’t the answer. We need someone that will be willing to work with both sides. Obama has shown absolutely no evidence of that. Empty rhetoric and madison avenue slogans used to fire up his far left base do nothing for the rest of us.

Kafir, Social Security did begin in the 1930s. However, Galveston Co., TX (thank you for reminding of the name of the county) was under Social Security for all those years until they voted to opt out about 20 years ago or so.
Posted by: James Danley | June 13, 2008, 12:17 pm 12:17 pm
Repost after being deleted:
Jason, you have totally misrepresented the Republican proposal for Social Security. It is not to totally privatize Social Security. Instead the proposal is to allow (this is an option, not a mandate) individuals to take 2%-4% of what they currently pay into Social Security and place that into a private account. Upon retirement the normal Social Security benefits will be reduced accordingly but not eliminated. But that 2%-4% placed into the private account IS part of that individual’s estate.
Now then you wrote: “SSA is well run…” Social Security is a racist program. The current life expectancy for white men and white woman are 74.7 years and 80.1 years respectively. The life expectancy for black men and black men are 68.3 years and 75.1, years respectively. Full retirement age for individuals born in 1960 or later is 67. So the average black male born in 1960 or later is only expected to receive 1.3 years of benefits. While his average white male counter part is expected to received 7.7 years of benefits.
I, personally, wish that Social Security would be grandfathered out — completely. Here is a interesting example. About 20 years ago a county in Texas wanted to take their county employees off Social Security and replace it with a private pension. In order to do that, the county employees had to vote. A simple majority, either way, meant that the entire workforce had to go along with the vote of the majority. It was a close vote, but the workforce elected to opt out of Social Security. There were a lot of unhappy county workers. ALL of the money withheld from their paychecks was invested into government guaranteed bonds. When the time came for the first retirees to begin receiving their pensions they, and their former co-workers were shocked. While the average Social Security payment is about $1,000 per month, these retirees received payments of between $8,000-$9,000 per month. Needless to say, the county workers are no longer unhappy about the decision to opt out of Social Security.

Mack | Jun 13, 2008 12:11:16 PM — I vote based on the issues that are important to this country and my family and my perception of a candidate’s ability to deliver the goods. Barack Obama is not the one for me. He is well educated, but indecisive, wishy-washy, and back slides when it serves him best to do so. Michelle Obama is educated well, too. Though, she needs to think before she opens her mouth and inserts her foot into it, again. Both are haughty and arrogant: A trait I do not find overly redeeming.

they need tax cuts for, to pay their CEO’s,and when they get fired, golden parachutes to live in castles for the balance of their lives, hell no, we need change, I am tired of corporate America running the Government, tax breaks for the working class and middle
income earners should be the change.

The fact that John McCain was a Prisoner-of-War means he has “paid his dues”, but this doesn’t fit the definition of a “hero”. This is not intended as an insult, but a hero is someone who makes extreme sacrifices to save OTHERS. Being mistreated by the North Vietnamese was certainly a very bad thing, but does not, in itself, make McCain a hero.
The “hero” debate is mostly about semantics, I guess.

Lee, Sen. Obama and the Democrats have said often that they intend to let the Bush tax cuts expire. The 2001 Bush tax cuts LOWERED the bottom two federal income tax rates: The 15% bracket lowered to 10%; and the 28% bracket lowered to 15%. IF these are allowed to expire then those currently paying the 10% will see that raised back to 15%; and those paying the 15% will see that raised back to 28%. THAT IS A TAX HIKE! Furthermore, Sen. Obama has said often that he will raise the federal income tax on those making more than $250,000.
Corporations and small businesses have the right to make a profit. So when their expenses go up, laying off workers is one of the ways they offset the rise in expenses so they can continue to make a profit. When corporations and small businesses make profits, they hire employees. When corporations and small businesses are squeezed financially they lay people off. That is how the free market and capitalism works.
