Obama Says McCain Continuing “Bush/Cheney Political Playbook Based on Fear”

At the Liaison Hotel this afternoon, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, sat with his "Senior Working Group on National Security."

Former Sen. Sam Nunn, D-Ga., and former Secretary of State Warren Christopher were on speakerphone.

Around the table, left to right, sat former State Department official Greg Craig, former deputy National Security Adviser Jim Steinberg, former Sen. David Boren, D-Okla., former National Security Adviser Tony Lake, former Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Ind, Obama, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former Defense Secretary William "the Refrigerator" Perry, former State Department official Susan Rice, Rep. Tim Roemer, D-Ind., and former Navy Secretary Richard Danzig. Hamilton and Roemer were also members of the 9/11 Commission.

Behind them, natch, stood  a row of American flags.

Obama said in his remarks that "yesterday Senator McCain showed yet again that the addition of continuing George Bush’s policies is not where he offers similarities, he’s also going to use the Bush/Cheney political playbook that’s based on fear. He put a bunch of staunch Iraq war supporters on the phone to accuse me of having a ‘pre-9/11 mindset.’

"I believe actually that I’m very clear about the threats America faces," Obama continued, "as are the people sitting around this table and those who are on the phone and I think in fact it’s the failed policies of the Bush administration and the unwillingness to look towards the future that is causing us so many problems around the world."

So Obama bases his campaign on the future. Arguments made on future events are logically fallacious. It’s the same as saying (as one famous Republican did) that we don’t need to conserve because the Rapture was coming soon.
Hope is a life preserver in freezing water when you need a boat.
It is Obama who plays the fear card just as he played the race card then accuses his opponent of doing that which he is doing.
Very Duran Duran (See Barbarella).

“I believe actually that I’m very clear about the threats America faces,” Obama continued”
Iran not a threat? or is Iran a great threat? Obama is not very clear about that.

How many National Security advisors does it take for Obama to look like he’s qualified to take the helm of our country? If there’s a fear card being played, it’s Obama who’s playing it. I’m very afraid of what an inexperienced egghead like Obama will do to our country.

Obama has clarified Iran is a threat but not as big of threat as the Soviet Union… whom I might add had nuclear weapons pointing in the directions of the United States.
Iran as far as we know doesn’t even have nuclear weapons.
Yet Ronald Reagon spoke to the Soviets.

Obama has transfered blame on to someone else his whole campaign.
He would blame and condemn someone, then act like mr innocent.
He would smear people, then turns around and says he is against smear.
He twist people words, tell mis truths, then blames someone else.
He is the one who started off his campaign with the dirtiest of dirty campaigns. Chicago Politics, where he was know as the ELIMINATOR!
Now he wants to paint a picture of himself as Mr Innocent. I guess he has his cult’s minds under his control strong enough. They think he is the great Savior and He can and will only do good.
When all these people have to wake up to the reality of being feed lies and worthless promises. They are going to get angry. What will he do about that?
Will he like it, if someone spearheaded a campaign to blame him for everything wrong with the country and their lives. that the government is bad. That it is all his fault. etc. Like he did to bush.
What will he do or act about that. He won’t be able to shirk the responsibility then as he does now about everything.
Once Americans wake up and find out they have been had, Then the country will be undivided again. They will Unite for America. I am Just hoping it will be before he can ever do more damage to this nation.

geevill,…your attack approach of parsing words is very weak…
Obama has a great mind. He’s also sitting with the greatest minds in the world committed to protecting America. I feel very secure about that.

so when obama goes “social security, supreme court” he plays to fear.

Sam Nunn -retired in 1996
Warren Christopher -retired in 1997
Greg Craig -has been representing Pedro Miguel González Pinzón, a Panamanian legislator who is wanted in the United States for the murder, in 1992, of a U.S. Army soldier and the attempted murder of another.
Susan Rice -gone in January, 2001.
and so on.
Well, the pre-9/11 shoe fits Obama perfectly.

From a report on Obama’s foreign policy speech in March: “The Iraq war has left America less safe and has emboldened al Qaida, Iran, North Korea and the Taliban, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has said.”
Whose political playbook based on fear is that from?

Please enlighten us
Greg Craig?
Warren Christopher -wasn’t he there when Iran took our hostages?

David Boren. president of the University of Oklahoma, is a master of deceit. He is a close friend of the Bush family and other top Republicans. He has been a patron and mentor of former CIA directors George Tenet and Bob Gates, now Bush’s Secretary of Defense. Since he resigned from the U.S. Senate in 1994, he has endorsed various politicians with conflicting views. In the 90s he was a close associate of Ross Perot, and for a few years in that decade there was a Reform Party committee to draft Boren for President in 2000. Their website (boren2000.org) can now be found at the internet archive. The google search term is “wayback.” For 2004, Boren endorsed Lieberman for President. He supported Lieberman again when he was running as an independent for the Connecticut Senate seat. Now Lieberman is attacking Obama. In early 2008, Boren held his “bipartisan forum” at OU because he was hoping that Michael Bloomberg would run as an independent and make him the running mate. Boren is a good friend of McCain and hosted him as OU’s commencement speaker in 2005. Currently Boren’s son, a right-wing Democrat and Oklahoma Congressman, is keeping Obama at arms length and has announced that he is not endorsing him. Obama is a fool for lettting Boren sit in on his “national security” meetings. Boren cannot be trusted. He is probably passing the information he gains directly to his good friend McCain.

Today on WaPo, there is report about what Iraqi foreign minister’s take on Obama:
The foreign minister said “my message” to Mr. Obama “was very clear. . . . Really, we are making progress. I hope any actions you will take will not endanger this progress.” He said he was reassured by the candidate’s response, which caused him to think that Mr. Obama might not differ all that much from Mr.McCain.
Those believing in Obama can fulfill all his promises during the campaign are bound to be heartbroken.
Obama – an incompetent, pandering, unqualified lousy candidate.

If this advisory board is so great why are they all former somethings?
Mad (treaty with N Korea) Albright, oh no not again
and somehow the “new Obama paridigm” seems a bit blured by all this old film.
Last time we heard from this group we were being attacked every 2 years and trying to play cops and crooks with killers.

The process of launching the Air Force when commercial air liners strayed is not something new since 911. It has been around way before that.
So that begs the question, where were the crews on 911? Why was the Eastern Seaboard totally unguarded?
Who ordered war “games” over Montana?
This begs another question: who knows more about how to defend the U.S.?
Who knows how to move the military might at a whim?

Regina -
Obama made sure that Muslim are not welcome by completely dissociating himself from that group. Evidence 1: He removed two Muslim women sitting behind him in Michigan with Gore – they are not welcome because he wants to prove he is not a Muslim.
So, you do not have to be afraid his Pro-Muslim.
Wait. Is this another boneheaded mistake?

“where were the crews on 911?”
The jets that scrambled took up position over the Atlantic because they are trained to handle external threats. By the time they were retargeted, it was too late.
The FAA was very slow in qualifying and reacting to the hijackings. Most of the fast response was from the lower level staff who realized that there was a threat but could not put the picture together fast enough with fragmented information. When they did, the decision making officials were in closed meetings.
Flight 93 was the one thing anyone got right and it cost them their lives but they got it done. Don’t dishonor their sacrifices with conspiracy theories that can be debunked by even the casual observers.
What 9/11 pointed out most glaringly was the then inability of the US to coordinate military and civilian resources when faced with a Threat of National Significance. Posse comitatus has side effects. We really were sitting dumb and happy on September 11.
With NIMS and the NFS, progress has been made on the command and control issues but getting these systems fielded and implemented is taking a lot of time. One big issue is the complexity of the RFPs attempting to solve too many problems too quickly. Once again, procurement processes and specifications need to be constantly reexamined. Too often, a good system can be created that is simpler and covers the majority of the cases then evolved over time to handle edge cases.
DHS is working the problem hard but it covers a lot of jurisdictions and scenarios and they all have unique problems.

But Obama uses fear by trying to lump Mc Cain as ‘Mc Bush’ .
Obama is turning out to be one of the most dangerous LIARS in american political history.
It is going to be a very sad day when we elect this kind of monster into the white house.

“84% of americans think america is on the wrong track… obama is the man to change that track”
This is why Democrats are so stupid. They promised this change in 2006 and you bought it then too.
Now you get a new Trojan horse and you worship it.
Obama worshippers are a cult. They forcibly close their eyes to the truth.
What history does Obama have of doing ANYTHING?
When has he worked with the opposition?
FYI- you can’t vote “present” as President.

dr john,
maybe you shoudl tell taht to mccain too since he continues to fall asleep and nto show up to vote on anything….besides when his bed buddy bush tells him too

Here’s the deal, B, and this is not fear but reality. There are groups of people both loosely and strongly affiliated who are trying very hard to do what you describe as ‘fire and brimstone’. Pretending they are not won’t reduce the threat. Blaming it on Bush won’t reduce the threat. Spreading conspiracy theories to boost support for your candidate won’t reduce the threat.
There are groups of people both loosely and strongly affiliated working very hard to stop the first group from doing what you describe. The first group only has to succeed once. So far, the second group has stopped them every time.
I work for the second group loosely. I hope those in my group continue to succeed so those in yours can continue to dream.
We need dreamers. We just don’t need them to set defense policy.
This is not about the election.

One thing I like about Obama as a candidate is he never seems to take a backward step. He always seems to be on the front foot and ahead of the game. I think its a long time since we had that kind of Democratic Party candidate running for the Presidency.
Take this issue for instance, he takes on what McCain is saying. I am reasonably confident that if a swift boating style smear came along he would stand up to it in a way that showed it for what it is.

Geez, you people ought to become more knowledgeable about what your candidate really stands for.
I am not in love with McCain but he has shown an ability to get along with the opposition.

HOPE you will believe my lies
CHANGE from a democratic nation to a socialist/marxist/communist/racist nation–to a third world nation. I don’t call that going forward but going backward.
