Roadblock Number One to the Clinton Veep Offer
Vice presidential prospects are put through a very thorough vetting process.
And it makes me wonder. Would former President Bill and Senator Hillary Clinton even submit to such a process?
Bill Clinton has done some amazing things in his post-presidential life. The Clinton Foundation is now a leading international NGO (non-governmental organization) with staff and volunteers in 44 countries, working to combat HIV/AIDS and promote economic development worldwide, for instance. The Foundation says that 1.4 million people now have access to HIV/AIDS treatment at reduced prices because of its negotiations. And that’s just one example.
But he’s a complex man, as we all know, and I suspect Obama’s vice presidential vetter, Mr. Jim Johnson, (who didn’t catch all of Geraldine Ferraro’s family finance issues when he vetted her on the quick in 1984) might have questions about:
* Bill’s finances
* Donors to the Clinton Library (as yet undisclosed)
* Bill’s gazillionaire rat pack pals Bing and Burkle et al
* Bill’s trip to Kazakhstan
* Bill’s ties to the Saudis
* Anything about his personal life that might not stand the light of day…
You know, I haven’t even gotten to the vice presidential pick herself yet and already I can’t believe the former President would agree to sit down and answer any questions about these issues.
In fact, that might be a good "out" for the Obama team, as I’m sure has occurred to bigger brains than mine on said team.

I think her first road block to VP happened last night when she lost a bunch of her supporters when she put herself over the issues again and I think one of the final straws for even her supporters.

The Clinton’s arrogance will prevent them from submitting to the process. They seem unwilling or unable to ever admit mistakes.
I think the only way the Hillary Clinton can distance herself from Bill’s questionable associations is to distance herself from Bill.
Maybe that will be the big story. Hillary divorces Bill.

The Only road block was and is the giant ditch she dug with an ugly dirty racebaiting campaign that should see her kicked out of the party and the country!

I agree that being ungracious to obamas win was a massive mistake for her and her bargaining chips
she could have said “tonight my friend and college Barack Obama has recieved enough delegates to hit the magic number.” yada yada yada wonderful campaign, ground breaking yada yada yada praise for her, praise for obama and then end with
“i do not know what i want to do with the campaign yet, I think that no decision will be made tonight”
and then i would if i were her left out the hillary clinton.com line
i mean she didnt ask for money, but, you konw she was

I am VERY happy to see most bloggers whether HRC or OB supporters felt the same way I did last night. I was astonished that Hillary didn’t a least confirm that Obama has enough delegates to win. Then to go into primary mode and start saying how she was a better candidate was SO wrong. It was Obama’s night and she rained on his parade. SHAME ON YOU HILLARY. You would have expected more from Obama if you were in his place.

danille…you are right, this is part of the scenario. Bill is a time bomb and can go off anytime. Where would he fit in if she was VP I don’t know. I feel sorry for Obama, because there will be tremendouse pressure on him to accept someone who he really doesn’t want.I pray for him

uho…I read something VERY interesting this morning in my local paper.
Most of the primaries HRC won were “closed” meaning only Dems could vote. And most of the Primaries Obama won were”open” meaning everyone can vote. What do you suppose this means?
I guess you could construe that he will have a lot of power in the GE among Independants and Reps.

I find it interesting from the standpoint that according to Obama’s “lay off my wife” comments, spouses are off limits. But now it appears that once again with BO, hypocrisy has reared its ugly head in that it only applies to him, and not any other candidates. Another reason why I will never vote for a hypocrite like BO, and once again, I am a lifetime Democrat, not a Republican poser who comes on these boards to troll. Those of you who think people like me are in the minority, or will “fall in line” in November, think again. I will take a moderate John McCain over ultra liberal Obama any day of the week.

As I recall he didn’t win very many primaries now did he? He didn’t win my state of Indiana which was open because all of my Republican friends were voting for Hillary. He won’t win my state any way. Indiana hasn’t carried a Dem president since before my time and Johnson was pretty much a sympathy vote because of JFK.

The Clintons need to go home. She’s not Presidential material. She showed that last night. She has stooped so low as to send her surrogates Lanny Davis and Bob Johnson to sniff for the vp spot. Hillary how low can you go? OBAMA 08
Posted by: Jocelyn | June 4, 2008, 8:32 am 8:32 am
kind of an obtuse observation from an otherwise keen observer. It’s not that Bill Clinton is above the vetting process; rather, he lives the vetting process every day. Or did you not notice this month’s Vanity Fair?

Hillary could do herself and the country a big favor by ousting Reid as senate leader. We’d not only have somebody who looks awake, we’d have a good shot at undoing the legislative roadblock the Pelosi democrats have created in DC.

Although there are many hurdles to Hillary’s veep fantasy, I think you missed the most obvious hurdle. Could the Clintons ever concede to campaigning Obama-style. They both are far too likely to respond “and what way is that?” even though it is clearly a part of what made for him winning.
They’d have to change who they are.

Capitalism only works with a society that is tempered with the education of socialism.
I am a capitalist… but America has always been a capitalist society that understands not just the mistakes of a socialist society but it’s lessons.
without it we will become an empire and fall.

. Obama is not, one of his senior advisers assured me Tuesday night, going to spend a lot of time in the next few months wooing Clinton supporters whose feelings may be hurting.
Makes sense to me. Why worry about 18 million voters? So it turns out the Obama campaign has some not too smart people on his campaign too. Expect a swift rebuke from Axelrod over this.

What Hillary wants…
she listed a bunch of things and then the one chance for those things to happen…a dem win… she didn’t support.
she in essence said the dem nomination was faulted so why should it be given creedence…
what Hillary wants is for Hillary.
all those issues she may want but not at the expense of herself…that is what her speech said last night…
(and I feel a little bad for her at this point there are a couple of stories that talk about this morning that she may now lose her Senate seat in NY…unfortunately because she has always had a low ceiling…but now she hurt her floor…like i have said a bunch of times I thought this would happen if she went down this road)
Now I get why Obama mentioned Bill Clinton last night the couple of times… she may have nothing left to lose besides their reputation and Bill’s legacy.
sad
she could have made it all different last night.

So how do you explain away his appeal to people like my 70 year old father, who hasn’t voted Dem since JFK?
Or the Upper Middle Class, college educated white folk, like myself?
I think one could argue education, intellect and life-experience.

Strategy aside, popular vote aside, win/loss aside, the very least Mrs. Clinton should have given was an acknowledgment of last night’s very historical moment. Just an acknowledgment.
I voted for Bill, twice. I voted for her in NYC. I voted for her in my state’s primary. She lost me here.

Who are Obama and his staff to be worrying about the “vetting” of the Clintons?
They might want to take a look in Obama’s own backyard (or bedroom) first.
I’m sure that once the GOP starts digging things up on Obama and his charming wife, any potential problems from a V.P. candidate will be the LEAST of their worries.

Obama’s hope must be that nobody questions the ludicrous details of his positions on complex issues.
Originally, he said he’d have the troops out by the end of April, ’08. Now, he’s in for the long haul.
Originally, he said he’d meet with ANY of the heads of state of our enemy without preconditions. Now, he adds conditions.
A puppet on a string. A bag of hot air!

We will be in for the change of our life.
Americans are so blind and so easily deceived. All the charisma that Americans crave he really gives it to them. They have turned a deaf ear to what is really going on.
The pastor has played a strong role in what is to become. Wait and see if he and all his followers don’t appear again If he is elected President. What will be Obama’s reasoning then? He will not need one the Change will come.
This has not one thing to do with his race. He is deceiving the American People

I have been a supporter and volunteer for Obama’s campaign for over a year. I am a 48 year old white woman who has never been active in a campaign before and consider myself an Independent with liberal leanings. I also emphatically hope Sen. Obama will NOT choose Hillary Clinton as a running mate. I think she will hurt, more than help, the campaign. Contrary to what she claims, she has not been “vetted”. There is still the matter of Peter Paul vs. Clinton that has been getting next to zero media coverage. I believe in Barack Obama and admire his idealism, wisdom and strength of character, choosing Hillary Clinton as a running mate will be seen by many of us, as a sell out.
Posted by: Wendy | June 4, 2008, 3:24 pm 3:24 pm
Forgot to mention that, I dont think it would be wise for Obama to pick Hillary as a running-mate. If he picks her, he runs the risk of being over shadowed by Bill Clinton, think that’ll be to much for his ego to handle.

Are you kidding me? A thorough vetting process. What kind of process will Obama go through? That should be the concern. He has so many problems right now. The main one being he’s behind McCain in the polls. And it’s just going to get worse once his vetting process begins.
Posted by: Bea | June 4, 2008, 5:52 pm 5:52 pm
So when does Michelle Obama’s vetting process begin?
Posted by: Stymmie | June 4, 2008, 5:54 pm 5:54 pm
Former Hillary…Or could it mean that the process was flawed and Republican’s picked our nominee and in the general will be voting McCain? McCain is ahead of Obama in the polls and Hillary has been ahead of them both for some time. Though Obama was second and slipped to third after the Wright’s my mentor or not, Rezco,What church?,Pflueger, bitter, grandma under the bus, black theology, troups out by 08 or 09 or 10,Isreal,talk to hamas, not talk to hamas, raise capital gains, lower taxes, reach accross the isle, I’m a dem, no a rep., no, who am I again? etc…..
