Rove: Obama’s the Guy at the Country Club Holding a Martini Making Snide Comments About Everyone Else
ABC News’ Christianne Klein reports that at a breakfast with Republican insiders at the Capitol Hill Club this morning, former White House senior aide Karl Rove referred to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, as "coolly arrogant."
"Even if you never met him, you know this guy," Rove said, per Christianne Klein. "He’s the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by."
Rove said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., "needs to come right at him." He referred to the latest Newsweek poll showing Obama with a 15-point lead over McCain as nonsense, though he used a more scatological synonym. Rove said he was heading over to the White House for lunch and a chat with the President, Klein reports.
**
Interesting that Mr. Rove would use a country club metaphor to describe the first major party African-American presidential candidate, whom I’m sure wouldn’t be admitted into many country clubs that members of the Capitol Hill Club frequent.
But the picture Rove paints is interesting. Who, pray tell, is Rove at this country club?
The guy telling funny stories near the band?
The charming president of the club’s philanthropic arm?
The brainy guy with all the sports scores?
Or the guy who vandalizes your car and blames it on the kitchen staff?

Government officials recently testified before congress and stated that unregulated energy trading is one of the main causes for the rise in gas prices over the past several years. They estimate that gas prices will drop 20%-50% overnight when this law is repealed.

Only a Republican strategist would use a country club allusion to describe Obama. Given that he was raised by a single mother and Michelle is the daughter of a municipal work, it hardly seems like an apt description.
I wonder if the unemployed steelworker or public school teacher struggling to pay for health insurance and fill up their car appreciates Rove’s humor? I have no doubt that one was a real knee slapper around Kennebunkport.

Shame on you, Karl Rove. How can you arrive at an accurate conclusion when you based on your opinions and hearsay. I come to the same conclusion using facts: Obama’s 143 Days in Senate and 7300 days as Trinity Church member.
This article, Obama’s 143 Days of Senate Experience, by Cheri Jacobus is funny. Obama and our nation is getting more and more ridiculous.
“Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual work days? Not much.
From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That’s how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.
After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.
143 days — I keep leftovers in my refrigerator longer than that.
In contrast, John McCain’s 26 years in Congress, 22 years of military service including 1,966 days in captivity as a POW in Hanoi now seem more impressive than ever. At 71, John McCain may just be hitting his stride.”
Obama was not even in the Senate, having no access to the Iraq intelligence papers about WMD, when he make the speech about Iraq in 2002. The guy has been a serial liar since. His hypocrisy is unbounded.

Karl Rove, of all people, should understand that most voters don’t belong to country clubs – we’re too busy trying to pay for health care, gas, food, and keep our homes from going into default.
Rove is part of the Republican machine that has tried to convince working class and middle class voters that Republicans are real down to earth folks who understand their issues. But his anecdote shows that they really are the same old party that it was when people used the term “country club Republicans.”

As for Rove’s analogy? He’s probably right. That sounds like BO. I wouldn’t be too concerned about poor BO not being able to get a membership to a Country Club, Jake. AAs have their own country clubs. Black Liberation Theology wants the races separate and in their own spaces.

c’mon I’m fairly certain most metropolitan DC country clubs would spring for the chance to add Barack Obama as a member. They have an awful history, no doubt about it, but this area is in love with Barack Obama. Overwhelmning democratic – and just look back at the results of the supposed “Chesapeake” primary if you doubt it.
That being said, I’m also fairly certain that Obama would turn all DC area country clubs down.

There’s a psychological term called “projection” – a defense mechanism in which one attributes one’s own unacceptable thoughts and emotions onto others. Classic case – Rove is the martini holding guy making snide remarks.

My father, a pretty strong Republican, likes Obama, and says he’s a “gentleman.” I think he’s right. Contrary to Rove’s non-sense, and I wonder why anybody takes this idiot seriously any more — shouldn’t he be in jail for treason — the impression one gets of Obama, even if you haven’t met him, is that of a very polite and considerate person. In short, a gentleman. Whatever one thinks about his abilities and policies, and I happen to think highly of both, there is something vile about assuming he is a mean spirted snob without any shred of evidence to back it up. If anybody looks down at people, it is Karl Rove, who has made a career out of finding ways to play on people’s fears and worst instincts. This year, people will be going in a different direction. And, one can only hope that the press will no longer feel the need to degrade itself and suffer by having to listen to Mr. Rover. Nobody else is at this point.

And for all you mccain supporters out there, if mccain wouldn’t stand up for his family when bush and rove was trashing them in 00 and then helped bush get reelected in 04 then he won’t stand up for your family if he’s elected in 08. Trinity United Church of Christ is building a million-dollar home along a Tinley Park golf course on land that was owned by its longtime pastor, Rev. A. Jeremiah Wright Jr., records show.
The 10,340-square-foot home, apparently planned for Wright’s retirement, sits on land purchased by the pastor in 2004 for $345,000. In September 2006, the church applied for a building permit, and in December 2006 he sold the land to his church, which took out a $1.6 million mortgage on the property.
The church received a permit in April 2007 for the brick-and-stone structure, set on Odyssey Country Club.
Trinity officials declined to comment. The church’s national office said it is “customary and appropriate in many Christian denominations, including the United Church of Christ . . . to offer housing provisions for retiring clergy” after years of service.
What are these racist Country Clubs Jakes refers to? You mean like the ODYSSEY COUNTRY CLUB?

Rove is a biased Republican. You’d think Fox News would have made a different choice if they REALLY want to be seen as the “fair and balanced” news organization that they tout themselves as. Quit hiring political extremists. It was bad enough that Bush hired a former Fox newsman (Tony Snow). Distancing themselves from Republicans might make them a bit more credible. Thus, I have no respect for what Karl Rove would say.

Since cynics don’t know the true definition of what a Racist is, ALLOW ME; PAY ATTENTION SPOCKY!
A racist is someone who has a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others. Does that sound familiar with WHITE AMERICA?
Racism is reinforced with a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine and discrimination. Does that sound familiar with policies WITHIN WHITE AMERICA?
Finally, a racist has hatred or intolerance of another race or other races. That has WHITE AMERICA written all over it.
So, the next time you freely use the word, think before you speak.
Obama has fostered any beliefs or doctrines that would prevent the typical WP from doing anything.

And I quote from the first line, second paragraph from wikipedia on the republican party:
Founded in 1854 by anti-slavery expansion activists and modernizers, the Republican Party rose to prominence with the election of Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican president.

I don’t agree with Mr. Rove. I think his analogy of Obama speaking under his breath and being arrogant are accurate, however, the setting should be in a bowling alley in downtown Chicago! As far as racism, I see ONLY Obama playing the race card even to the point now of trying to project himself as a victim before any incidence. Obama is imploding now and America is finally waking up to see and realize what we have known for years here in Chicago! This is a Democrat that is voting for McCain in November and will be campaigning for Mr. McCain to stop Obama from even entering the White House!

Obama is the nicest, kindest man. I have never heard him insult anyone. He said people kling to their religion when going through hard times. I do, and so should everyone else. What’s wrong with that. Kling to God, your Faith, and hope when going through hard times. Lean on your family also. Occupy yourself with hobbies. If it’s hunting, then go for it.

Hey Nat, as a matter of fact that DOES NOT sound like white America. The most racist comments I’ve heard recently have come from Jeremiah Wright. In the Dem primaries, the white vote broke 55% Hillary and 45% Obama. The black vote broke 90% Obama and 10% Hillary. Tell me again, WHO exactly are the racists here?

Even if you never met him, you know Carl Rove. He’s the guy working the room at the clubby bar in the elite Washington. D.C. Willard Hotel, hitting on young lobbyists, pigging out on happy hour snacks, and making snide comments in an attempt to get a job.

The Prince of Darkness (Rove) knows his audience.
Therefore, take it to the bank that there is a reservoir or GOP hostility out there for arrogant guy’s with beautiful dates who smoke and judge others at the CC.
Note also the reference to cigarette smoking. [Obama quit before the campaign, but started up again 3 months ago.]
Rove never says anything without a calculated purpose.
And before you disregard The Prince, never forget that The Prince serially succeeded in electing W to various public offices. (I rest my case.)

I’ve been paying attention to Obama since last summer, reading up his interactons with those who know him and have worked alongside him. Rove is pretty close on this one. Obama is a passive aggressive personality and he’s also a low-key bully who uses condescension as a tool to keep people in line. The same technique high school kids use to get others to do things their better judgment tells them not to do. Or clever advertising gurus like David Axelrod use to market inexperienced politicians as “new and different” and “hip and cool”.

Rove must be thinking of his drinking buddy George Bush, the alcoholic intstalled by the Supreme Court as our president. And for those boneheads who say the Democratic party was founded by rascists, that is true. But what these idiot, non-readers forget is that all the Democrat rascists left the Dems and joined the Republicans after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed by a Democratic Congress and signed into law by President Johnson.

We’re having an argument about entitlement, country clubs, snobbery .. and Rove/Bush/Cheney/McCain are on the side of the common man? Are you all insane? I voted for those guys twice (Rove/Bush/Cheney), and am now for Obama for the simple fact I am not rich, Southern, or reborn … and the other little fact that the country has gone in the toilet in the last 10 years, thanks to Clinton and Bush. Let McCain and Obama debate, then decide what is what. Rove had his day, which now is over. Bush had his, and the Clintons had theirs. McCain woulda been great in 2000, not now.

given the fact we have had a president for the last seven years with an IQ of less than 90, and his advisor Rove, probably a little over 99, it is refreshing to have Obama with an IQ above 130 – of course Rove would see him as a arrogant – the dumbing down of Amerika brought about by the ‘no child left behind’ policy has secured that any intelligent person is looked at with suspicion…

Truth is that words are only words but methinks Karl Rove himself looks like a guy who would join Obama in making snide remarks about the people at a cocktail party. John McCain is still advertising for submissive personalities to make comments on as many blogging sites as possible. They get ‘McCain points’ for each time they post a comment. They get extra points for each time they use the word arrogant, marxist, socialist, or racist when referring to Obama. That is why you will often see the words but with no coherent context.
Posted by: Eileen From Maine | Jun 23, 2008 2:39:17 PM
***********************************
I almost forgot, these submissive followers are also encouraged to get the word, ‘elitist’ in as often as possible too. Doesn’t matter if it has nothing to do with the topic, they get an extra ‘McCain point’ for each time they use it.
I think they get a McCain cap if they can use elitist, arrogant, marxist, socialist and racist all in one post. Doesn’t matter if they can’t even define the words or put them in context. Submissive personalities will pick up the words and don’t really think about if they apply or not.

Obama’s admitted heavy marijuana and cocaine use in high school and college may well have played a decisive role in the development of Obama’s inflated sense of his own importance; and, his pretentious demeanor. Heavy drug use can lead to hallucinations concerning ones status of grandiosity. Another clue is Obama’s frequent confused and unintelligible babblings whenever he is subjected to a public forum where he is devoid of a prepared text by his handlers to read from; which is the reason that Obama’s controllers will resist any attempt to have their candidate exposed to town-hall style forums.
Unequivocally, this man, who has exhibited a profound lack of common-sense, should never be allowed anywhere near the Oval Office. Greg Neubeck

Race has less to do with this than class. Rove’s audience here is people who don’t belong to country clubs.
I’m an Obama supporter, but I have to say that Rove has found a pressure point here. Obama’s got a festering public perception as an elitist who likes to play down home. Michelle Obama’s Princeton thesis, etc. gets sucked into it. If the Obama campaign leaves an opening here McCain could really dent the Obamas on this. I hated Clinton’s wedge-driving appeals to the white working class, but Obama hasn’t won them and McCain could be a lot stronger than people think if these find more in common with him than Obama’s ivy league story and friends.

Obama has the gift of creating a hynotic energy when he speaks and he knows it and he uses it. I have see this kind of thing many, many times before. There are many learned men and women in this country that devote themselves to the study of charasmatic leaders of cults and Obama’s followers have all the earmarks of cultish behaviors. After all, he’s afraid if WHITES vote as BLACKS have who 95 % voted for Obama because of his SKIN COLOR, if WHITES do the same thing and cast their votes like Blacks, based on the skin color of a man, then Obama does not have a chance. Is that what Obama is REALLY afraid of? I’d say he has a lot to be afraid about if whites do vote based on skin color as blacks are doing. And that my friends is a fact. Like it or not.

obama himself has said perhaps he shouldnt have said cling or bitter as maybe those were harsh words, but i just dont see it, it looks to me like its all on the up and up
“You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.”
“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

With Obama’s San Fransisco’s remarks about middle Americans, he sounds very much like a arrogant liberal who surrounds himself with black David Dukes, 10 most wanted types and pro Islamic guys he hides in Africa. Now I’ll probably be told I’m anti black when mentioning facts.

I think Obama does think he is better than the rest of us. As for intelligence, I don’t care if he is a genuis. What good is intelligence if the person with it is doing the wrong things for the wrong reasons. Obama can snear, Rove can rage, none of them are thinking about us. Wake up, it is just the way it is. Be realists not bots, and vote who will be best. I am old enough to remember Jimmy Carter, he was/is a very smart man. It gave us 20 percent interest rates, gas lines when there was gas, and unemplyment of over 10%. Ah, the good old days of having the worlds smartest man at the helm.

Karl should continue to tell us about country club archetypes, he clearly has a lot of experience hanging out at them. These metaphors only demonstrate how out of touch the GOP is with the people.
Maybe next he can compare Obama ‘with that guy at the $1000/plate dinner who always brags about his accomplishments’, or ‘that guy at the resort whos always hogging the cucumber baths and saunas.’ Man, I hate those guys!

and to the people who keep saying obama has no experience, i give you this and you can EAT IT
Ronald Reagan, who served as the President of the United States from 1981-1989, had only eight years of government experience – three fewer than Obama – on his “resume.”
Similarly, 20th century Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson won the presidency despite having thinner resumes than Obama (Wilson, for example, served a single two-year term as the Governor of New Jersey prior to becoming President).
This is a common myth perpetuated by the right and reinforced by Senator Clinton who had less elected and legislative experience than Obama. Additionally, both Bush and Bill Clinton had less foreign policy experience than Senator Obama.
And of course, as well as Senator Obama’s 8 years in the State Senate of Illinois and 3 years in Congress, a total of 11 years in elected office, he has something that is probably more important and more relevant to becoming President than any one of the candidates who vied for the Presidency this year, and that is his years spent teaching constitutional law.
Since George Bush has repeatedly wiped his boots on the constitution, I can’t think of a better qualification than Senator Obama’s experience as a constitutional Law Professor for the University of Chicago and his his civil rights experience as a lawyer.
Our constitution is in dire need of someone as President who respects it, and understands it from a legal standpoint.

Hey rank-and-file Republicans, what do these guys you elect give you back? In ’04 didn’t they promise you a gay marraign amendment if you voted for them? How long did your GOP majority discuss that after the election? Zero seconds?
But you keep voting for them because they aren’t “elitist” and they’ll cut some more taxes for millionaires, because they aren’t elitist.

After all, he’s afraid if WHITES vote as BLACKS have who 95 % voted for Obama because of his SKIN COLOR, if WHITES do the same thing and cast their votes like Blacks, based on the skin color of a man, then Obama does not have a chance. But to go from his comments and find a way to stretch it to be about race “ooh, I bet Obama wouldn’t be allowed in their fancy boy’s club! I disagree with Rove that the guy is coolly arrogrant; he is blatantly arrogant. The most blatant happened on the floor of the House on the night of the State of the Union address. Hillary and Teddy greeted each other (same day Ted endorsed Hillary’s opponent); the arrogant one turned and snubbed Hillary thus showing America his arrogance in prime time. Who can forget. More recently, he said to a woman at the black caucus “You need to get over it.” This was directed to Hillary supporters that the woman said he needed to reach out to.

Rove is talking about the Bush that Bush called his base at another fund raiser. Bush and Rove of course subscribe to the old line made famous many years ago on Saturday Night Live many years ago by Steve Martin about how to be a millionaire and avoid taxes– first you have to be a millionaire. And in interesting side note, when Mr. Rove visited Waterloo, Iowa to do a high roller fund raiser for the Republican Party he went to a home near the local country club (Sunnyside) and was snuck in in disguise aboard a golf cart to avoid the press. One of GWB’s terms of endearment for Rove is Turdblossom which is an old Texas term for a cowpie with a flower in the middle which is consistent with an assessment of Mr.Rove that if he’s not full of it, he’s certainly surrounded by the stuff, which perhaps was the source of his fertile imagination that the GOP wasn’t going to do so poorly in the 2006 elections.

Obama and his wife are both under-achievers who got into Law School based on their skin color. Both were admitted to law school under Affirmative Action for non-white candidates. Nobody even knows this yet. Check their school records and you will see that they both got scores lower than white law student candidates who were rejected for admission and did not get into Harvard. Check their academic admission records and verify if what I am saying is not true. I know this to be a fact.

This is crazy. Obama is the first candidate since Bill Clinton to come from a working-class background. The son of a single-mother, raised by grandparents, married to a woman whose father was an hourly wage worker. He used student loans to get through school and had no money at all until his books finally sold, which means he actually earned the money he has rather than having inherited it. I think he’s far more connected to what life is really like than McCain (the son of an Admiral), Bush, Gore or Kerry ever was. Even Hillary had a more elite background growing up.
Hit the guy on real issues if you like, but it’s just a flat lie to claim he’s an elitist.

No surprise here, Republicans always seem to be against intelligent people.
They can’t compete on an intellectual level so they go into their typical name calling routine. Elitist, arrogant, socialist, marixist, etc. etc.
Republicans seem to be stuck in some weird elementary school mentality and freak out when they come up against an adult who thinks for themselves.

I think this is a “Fresh Prince of Bell Air” reference.
I just happened to catch a Nick-At-Nite episode on last night and there was a scene with “Uncle Phil” and some other guy sitting at the country club making snide comments about what other people were wearing.
It was an early episode so I believe the intention was to illustrate the new economic circumstances that Will found himself in this “fish-out-of-water” comedy.
That Karl Rove would create a political analogy inspired from a television sit-com is kinda funny. Kinda makes you want to go back and look at his strategies over the years.

Clearly, Rove and his trusty thugs eyeballed this story and are first to the blogs. It is quite interesting that Rove would use a Country Club as the backdrop. It sort of smells of elitism but doesn’t quite fit the Obama brand, you know being Black and all. Keep working on it Rove, maybe by October, you’ll have something that works this year. So far you guys have nothing; in fact everything just rolling off like oil. Did I say oil? Another not too good topic for McFlip or Rove.

If Gore had been President, 45,000 young Americans would not have had their arms, faces, legs, and genitals blown off.Hundred committed suicide a week. If Demos not spending trillions of dollars a day on a lost war. If Democrats were in the Whitehouse, we would still be respected in the World. If Democrats were in the White House, there would be no foreclosures and high gas prices. Please elect Obama!!!

Actually, I’m kind of interested in Mr. Rove’s mastery of the English language: I’d love to see a cigarette that “stands against a wall and makes snide comments …”
The quasi-educated Mr. Rove is, unfortunately, very good at one assignment: making other people look bad.
As for his own character, no one could do a better job of painting a portrait of the harm of leadership by quasi-educated, short-sighted, mean-spirited human beings.

LOL!
Bush is the biggest elitist of all time and McCain’s been in Washington most of his life.
This is psychological projection.
The elitist attack isn’t going to stick this time. Sorry Rove. By the way, a majority of Americans don’t like you, or Bush. You’ve made politics terrible in America.
Who does Rove think Obama is, James Bond?! LOL
Posted by: JohnUSMC | June 23, 2008, 3:20 pm 3:20 pm
There are two problems with Rove’s comments: 1) The fact that he stated, “you know him…he’s the guy at the country club who…” reveals that his audience, and indeed he himself, are members of country clubs; 2) Obama is not a member of a country club.
The Republican’s attempt to paint Obama as an elite liberal fails from the outset. It sticks with someon like Kerry’s past and lineage. But the son of a Kansas mother on food-stamps, and a Kenyan father in the States on an academic scholarship is hardly the stuff of high-society. I am dumb-founded that a man who worked for some of the oldest money around has the gall to attempt to paint Obama in this way. Their hubris will be repayed at the polls, and by the future generation of 20 and 30 somethings who are leaning democratic by a significant majority.

The country club that Obama belongs to is the Ivy League alumni that think they can rule this country as an entitlement. The fact the Michelle Obama complained about her college loans means nothing since her children won’t have to sweat getting accepted to whatever Ivy League school they want. As far as the Obams having to woory about paying for college, Harvard and others are wainving tuition for everybody. Middle class white America need not apply.

I still marvel that we give air time and credence to a man who, for political reasons, exposed the identity of an American spy. Last time I checked, that was treason, no? How, oh how, is it that this man is a commentator and not in jail.

Rove is correct. Everything Obama does is arrogant. He prays on people who are uninformed and promises them everything. And for the rest of us, his says we have to sell our SUV’s and can’t keep our homes cooler then 71 degree’s. Maybe he should go over to Gore’s house. Although that would be one too many hypocrites in a room.

Obama is the consumate liar. A list of his lies should alert most citizens that this man is not to be trusted. He has promised to pull out troops out of Iraq. He is lying on that one too. What will the Obamabots do when they realize that he has told another whopper? Obama is untested, inexperienced. risky, has extremely poor judgement and is a liar. This is combination for diaster.

All this rhetoric is garbage. Bottom-line: Obama will raise taxes, double the Capital Gains tax, try to federalize the oil industry and kill what is left of “Land of the Free”.
Carter did what Obama wants to do and we had NO OIL. How will it be when we have NO OIL that we can’t afford?
Windfall profits? That’s business success. Now success is a bad thing? Kill the oil companies and half this country will be out of work in 6 months and gas will cost $10 a gallon. No business has EVER PAID TAXES. Consumers pay the difference. Anyone that can’t see that is a total MORON!
Vote Obama…then hang on for a nightmare ride.

Obama’s elitism is unremarkable in politics except that he claims to be the candidate of “Change” who is out to squash his own brand of politics. Karl Rove is no American hero but to lambaste him as badly as some of you have here is unfair – Black, white, old, young, etc. NO presidential candidate is above criticism and you Obama people are acting like he’s a messiah or something. This is America and everybody has the right, even you who cry racism and insult McCain using age-ism!

Ever notice that the liberals here have very little to say by way of any actual facts? But, they can always be counted on to make a personal attack, call people names, spout the Koolaid, regurgitate the blogpoop, etc. They seldom add anything to a discussion.
The only people I see playing the RACE CARD right now are Obama and the Dems. Obama already has most of the black vote tied up because they are going to vote by skin color. The race issues Obama keeps bringing up are an attempt to innoculate his campaign from using racism as a defensive tool against who knows who. The “I see white people!” syndrome.
Pathetic
Posted by: TexGEOas | June 23, 2008, 3:24 pm 3:24 pm
Rove is losing his touch. This is what he is reduced to? Offering this limp volley, in the hope of baiting Obama into a response that “might” allow the right to say that it is Obama who is racist?? My God, how pathetic…. Yes, Karl.. Please…for the sake of the country.. Keep up this line of attack.
Yes, an educated African American must be “elitist”..
Surely someone who actually has faith in our Constitution must be a “threat”..
But of course someone who is willing to take on your friends who are raiding our coffers at the expense of the lives of our children and tens of thousands of Iraqis must be “liberal”…
Absolutely, anyone who might hold you, KBR, Cheney, Blackwater accountable couldn’t possibly have the best interest of the country at heart… Why to even speak of those things only proves what an ungrateful, unpatriotic and “dangerous” person he is.. My God Karl, even your base realizes you are a liar… If YOU weren’t so dangerous I might pity you.. But I don’t. You are a very sad little man whose power is slipping away, Thank God.

It is amusing that the Dems and the Repubs both have top advisors, who share the first name Karl. Karl Rove offers his political insights to the right side of the aisle, while Karl Marx is the political inspiration for the left side of the aisle. Obama is certainly comfortable with that, since his father was an honest Kenyan Marxist. The only difference is that Obama is a limousine Marxist. As Michelle told a group of ordinary American housewives and mothers, it is so difficult for the Obamas to squeeze $30,000 or so, out of their $1 Million annual income, to pay for Jimmy Choo shoes, ballet lessons and summer camp. And even worse, if Barry wins the election, Michelle may have to give up her $350,000 no-show job (complements of the Daley political machine and their Univ. of Chicago subsidiary) in order to downsize from the Obama mansion to the White house.

Actually, Bush’s IQ has been estimated to be between 125 and 130, given his SAT and OCS scores. Obama refuses to release his SAT scores. BTW, McCain’s USNA transcript lists the results of his intelligence test score as 133. On the drinking front, perhaps Howard Dean could give some guidance given his experience.

Re. The comment by Jefferson to have the IRS go after Rove with a microscope after he’s elected is very interesting. That’s the same thing Bill Clinton did to the women who accused him of sexual assaults. Liberals are only for free speech if it allows them to speak. Anyone who wants to voice a concern about someone on the left is not allowed to do so because what they say is hate speech. One of the first things that will happen if Obama wins and the Democrats control Congress is the the Fairness Doctrin will be put in place and government control of what you see on the Internet. Nevermind that Network TV and most magazines and newspapers are far left in their views. Obama is very dangerous and sadly McCain is not a good choice either he’s just liberal light. If Clinton had ordered the hit on Osma when the CIA had him onthe tarmac in northern Africa, if Jamie Gorelick (sic?) had not put the wall between the CIA and The FBI, if Clinton had recognized the clear and present danger from Islamo-terrorism, then 3,500 individual would not have been incinerated on Sept 11, 2001. The USS Cole, the Marines killed at the US Embassy in Lebanon, the attacks in Africa, etc. were criminally ignored.
and today, thousands of widows, widowers and children would have their families whole. Thanks liberal Democrats.

The Dem’s. and the Lib. press have been talking it down for 7.5 years.
When the Dow hit 1400 you didn’t hear a peep out of them.
Oil prices are because of the Dem’s. No drilling no windfarms in my back yard. No nuculear energy. And now they have driven up food costs also.
When Billy the Perv. stopped the drilling in Alaska it would have been on the market by now.
OPEC and Speculators made Billions because of the Dem’s. Now they scratch their a– and cant figure why crude is so high.
It’s all Bushes fault. Monkeys have more brains than the Lib’s.
Every year millions of acres of forrest burn because of the Lib’s. But Al baby will plant three trees to offset his carbon usage.

OK, now that we have heard from the Marxists (Liberals) if you will, when are we going to hear what you like instead of what you don’t like?
If things are so bad, go elsewhere.
All I have heard Senator Obama speak of is tax this or spend on that. And when he votes “Not Present” on the floor he can pander to so many without taking a stand.
Whether you like Karl Rove or hate him, whether you like our President or hate him, can’t you wait until we can say things like this about the Messiah?
If Obama listens to his economists, National Security chiefs and staff the same way he listened to the Wrong Reverend Wright, we are really in trouble.
Thank you

Rove is the guy standing in the corner with an ugly date…no, wait… alone..with a beer in his hand pointing out the cool Bondesque, intelligent, suave, charismatic, well spoken, black man and outing him as a CIA agent. Rove is a loser and we can all see that.

Put aside your like or dislike of Karl Rove and George W. Bush, they are not running in 2008. Analyze Rove’s comments objectively and you will see be able to understand why Obama cannot connect with most Americans. This is the reason why Obama supporters are freaking out over these types of observations, as holds within it the seeds of an Obama electin defeat, on a order of magnitude similar to George McGovern’s loss in 1972!

Country club? If i’m not mistaken, anyone who looks like Obama would be serving food and parking cars at any Country club Rove belongs to. Next time Rove should remember to bring his burning cross and his pointy hat.

Just another attempt to define the Democratic candidate by the Right… It worked well in 2004, because Kerry did not fight back. Luckily Obama has the spirit to fight. Not only does Rove’s depiction of Obama not align with reality, its one of the most hypocritical statements Rove has made. Rove refuses to truly participate in the political process, all he does is stand off to the side…. making comments about everyone else. He refuses to face the music and testify before Congress, and has been behind some of the most cynical and ignorant political attacks in modern times.
Oh, and to all the people, “Democrats” and Republicans who claim Obama is racist, you really need to open your eyes. Nothing he has said is racist… Please, if you plan on attacking someone, use examples. When has he called people that do not support him racist? When? What, he called people bitter? People are bitter… I am bitter… Do people shy away from real issues and cling to non-issues like guns and religion?… YES… Is that racist? No, its reality.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s new house is actually on the golf course of the Odyssey Country Club. Residents are required to be members of the country club, so get off the weak “no blacks in the country club” responses. I’m sure that “Barry” (that’s what Barack likes the white folks to call him) will be meeting with the Rev. win or lose.

“Obama is a typical smart ass liberal, having spent two years at Columbia, and three years at Harvard listening to smart ass liberal, progressive (Marxist leaning profesors) who see America as a glass half empty..or part of the hate America crowd.”
This is exactly how Republicans demonize anyone smart enough to get an education. We hear it in their rhetoric all the time. They try to “connect” with working class voters by being as ineloquent as humanly possible (see Bush, G.W.). Yet, their policies show no consideration for the working class. They push for tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, with a greater burden falling onto the shoulders of the working class.
Only in the Republican universe is being educated so demonized. Maybe if some of them were smarter, they might put aside this ludicrous charade.

I am a military wife of a active duty member. First off I will NEVER EVER vote for McCain because he thinks it is not necessary inportant when the troops come home from Iraq, IT IS EXTEREMELY IMPORTANT when they come home. I don’t get why certain people think that Sen Obama is an elitist. He did not have a rich upbringing. He came from the not so nice part of Chicago. Mccain’s wife on the other hand did come from an elitist background. Don’t even get me started on Bush Jr’s background. He had to lean on daddy at every turn.Daddy bush got him in to the reserves so he did not have to go to Vietnam when his country called on him. And Cheney I believe he used every excuse not to go also when his country called on him. I respect Sen Mccain for what happened to him when he was held a POW but that is where is ends. Bush does not care about the military and their families. Just so every base is covered here. The only reason it looks as though the military backs bush is because the members of the military have to or they can get into some real trouble.

The panic is beginning to set in. Obama is not only ahead, but he will continue to move farther ahead.
Let’s face it. The republicans have had it their way for 8 years and what is the result?: 2 wars, economy in the trash, housing crash, record high gas prices,… The truth hurts.
It is an utter embarassment to have the country (the world?) run by a guy with the IQ of a bowl of warm acorn squash, and his cronies. He’s managed to make his fortune (along with Cheney, Rummy and the other nuts). Enough is enough.

Doesn’t August National still not allow blacks in their club or is it just women. Speaking as a Republican John McCain is the biggest joke of a candidate there could be, who needs another 4 years of Bush. If Rove is so smart, how come he helped force the Republican party to drop support for McCain in 2000 so that they would nominate George W. Bush? And if Bush was clearly the better candidate, according to the Republicans, then how can McCain possibly be a good candidate in 2008, now that we know how bad Bush screwed things up? The Republicans are asking us to ignore what they told us in 2000 about McCain being the weaker candidate. That’s pretty hilarious if you ask me.

While you may not have thought much of Bush’s two terms as Texas governor, GWB’s level of experience dwarfs that of B.Husseing Obama. That’s right. Let’s make this about Karl Rove or G W Bush or some blonde CIA has-been. That way, we don’t have to address the real issues such as: If BHO was 100% white, the Democratic party leftist but painfully inexperienced platform seriously enough to get him in the top 100 primary candidates. Even John Edwards would have beaten him out. As I type, BHO is reintroducing himself to America. He’ll come out as someone who sounds like John McCain … until he gets elected, then he will sound like John Hillary Kerry Clinton, but with a more leftist socialist edict. Funny how that all works when the left wins. But for now, we can all forget that. Just focus on the fact that he’s a black, and if we don’t nod in agreement with everything that he says, we’re racists. Get real. Look past his color and listen past his adoring media. The guy is unfit to be president on any basis.

I don’t care if Obama is a arrogant fool. Both candidates are arrogant fools. What concerns me is that we have to elect someone as socialist as Obama so that the Conservatives can remember what being conservative means. If anyone thinks that Obama is the cure for the economy than you need your head examined. I guarantee the moment Obama becomes president gas will jump a dollar a gallon and a gallon a milk will require your home be refinanced, if you can afford to keep your home. If there is one thing that Dems know how to do it is certainly tax and spend, but thats okay for the socialist (aka Greenfreaks) movement.

Second of all, it does bring to light an unfortunate theme that has been occurring in this election: many Americans still think that a smart, self-confident black man is a threat to them and so they try and diminish it by calling him uppity, or in this case “elitist”.

Rove is just mouthing the same old Republican saws that were so successful at turning working class Americans against the Democratic party–portraying Democratic candidates as elitist and out of touch with the common man. Unfortunately, it probably won’t work this time. The American public has been awakened from its long slumber by the sound of exploding IEDs, the crash of the economy, and the hum of the shredder as it rips up the Constitution. Nice try Mr. Rove, but your tactics are old hat now!

Republicans/Democrats have gotten too petty and both parties unfit to host either of their candidates in MY countries white house.

If Obama is elected president, you can expect and will get: socialism versus capitalism, increased class envy, increased class warfare, increased taxes, victimization, no accountability or responsibility for your actions, increased government, reduced personal freedoms, less national security, increased gas prices, and more whining and crying. Obama has NO energy plan! Taxing oil companies, while not allowing any domestic drilling for oil, no building of nuclear plants, no building of hydroelectric plants or solar plants is NOT an energy plan! Oils is a GLOBAL commodity – he needs to take an economics 101 class – good lord is he stupid! GOD HELP US if he is elected president!!!

Why I don’t like Obama (and it has nothing to do with race):
-He’s a racist himself (ironic, eh)
-He has Marxist ideas (Big business is evil, yadda yadda, depend on the government for everything because you can’t do it yourself)
-He wants to meet with terrorists w/out precondition
No thanks!

Sometimes, a political figure’s magic just no longer works – Their time has passed.
I remember thinking this during the democratic primary – that Bill Clinton had truly lost his touch. His “magic” was old – and people didn’t buy his routine anymore.
Then, I read this story today, and I have to say the same about Karl Rove – He is another political “genius” whose methods no longer work – His day and time – like Clinton’s has passed.
Good riddance to them both…..

I just can’t wait to see all these “immense” changes that are going to take place the second Obama takes office. Other than electing an African American ,which is a big step that I’m not denying, there is no difference between Barack and any other politician who decides to show up to 1 out of every 10 votes while he is in the senate. He presents himself as a smart guy but he is not the “fix all” solution that he (and the media) are selling himself as. Good luck to him if he wins.

Doesn’t Bush and Rove’s ‘BASE’ consist of the ‘Haves and the Have Mores’?
These people have no shame! I guess this is what one can expect when one opens up a 17 point lead over a republican presidential candidate in the polls.

Best line, EVAH!

Rove is right.
What has Obama ever done or accomplished in his life?
He’s never run a company.
He’s never met a payroll.
His only private sector job after school (other than as a politician) was as a Constitutional law professor. Talk about avoiding the rigors of the market.
He’s never led men in the military – or served in the military.
He’s never been a Governor – or held any kind of executive position.
All he’s done is criticize others.
And now he wants to go from one-term Senator to President of the United States.
Rove is right. Obama is the guy at the country club with lots of big talk – but no actual experience. The listeners to the Obama-type guy at the country club politely listen. But as they walk away they roll their eyes and say to each other, “What’s he ever done? He needs to get some actual experience before all the grand talk.”

Facts?? Someone asked for facts?
1. We are in a war that Congress has now agreed, was not warranted by the facts.
2. Facts that were not in line with, and therefore disputed, the fantasies presented as fact, i.e. Iraq – Al Qaida link, WMD, threats of dirty bombs, etc., were dismissed.
3. Anyone who mentioned these, the media, private citizens, politicians, were villified, some threatened, some voted out of office.
4. The war has been subcontracted out to companies such as KBR who charge scandalous fees to do work that our military had done in every previous engagement.
5. These same companies have risked the lives of our military with shoddy workmanship, poor oversight and tactics which only further antagonize ALL the locals to retaliate against our young men and women.
6. They cannot be held accountable in any court of law, unlike our military men and women.
7. The huge surplus our country enjoyed only 7 years ago is a now mind boggling deficit, forcing us to borrow more and more money from the Chinese.
8. The Chinese who continue to build a military juggernaut with our technology, abuse the rights of their own citizens.
9. The Chinese who we support and endorse as members of the world community and thereby compromise everything we stand for as a nation.
10. Fact- I love my country but I HATE what is being done to it and not just by the Republicans.. The Democrats have had opportunities they have squandered, only to fall in line and avoid a fight which might hurt them come election day. To many pols take each day as an opportunity to shore up their base and NOT their country. The world sees this. Our global community is getting smaller and smaller.. Yes we are generous in times of tragedy even with our enemies…but if you cannot understand, if your attention span is so small, and hindsight so weak, that you cannot recall that we have propped up dictators, encouraged and engaged in political assassinations in the not too distant past, consume the worlds resources at an obscene pace, have experienced our own political corruption and assassination yet sneer with disdain when other countries do the same, speak of supporting our troops, and then cut benefits, cut corners and cut ties once we are done with them.. These are all FACTS that the rest of the world sees. We are still the best damn country in the world. I am a proud veteran. Our system is broken and the rhetoric is deafening and talk is still cheap.
There are a few facts…God Bless America!

when will everyone realize this is the game Rove, Cheney, Bush, etc play so well? Whether it be true or not, they say it over and over and for some insane reason people believe it just because they’ve heard it so many times. Rove started saying these things a couple of months ago and will continue to intensify his rhetoric all the way until November. This is what they did to win the past two elections as well as the support(?) to fight an illegal war.
My hope is that enough people have seen through this style of politics and will seek truth for themselves and not believe a hate-filled talking head like Rove or Cheney. It’s time to be real, honest and caring Americans that get the facts before name calling and making decisions.

rove methodically calculates everything he says, he alludes to a country club b/c they have been a symbol of the disgusting racism throughout our countries history since blacks were never allowed in the all white country clubs
instead of overtly making race a part of this campaign season the right wing will continue to try to make it so barack himself brings up race as an issue first, in the minds of the so called conservatices as long as barack is the first to make race an issue in the campaign he has opened himself up to underhanded racially tinged comments such as this
rove makes this statement not b/c he truly believes the truth of it
he makes it hoping that barack will respond in a way that will open up talk about race and play on our countries history of racism, and the fear of the big black man.
rove simply wants barack to say what such a statement brings to mind and that is that the truth of the matter is that people with barack’s skin color would not even be allowed to step foot in a county club in the past, and barack himself does not come from some upper class snob family. desribing him in such a way is just ridiculous.
i have faith that barack will always be two steps ahead of these disgusting old school politicians like rove who will continue to play the same old political games that simply damage our country and our national dialogue, instead of talking about issues we’ll talk about this misguided comment and other nonsense
ive already seen ads on fox news touting the return of rev. wright, it makes me sick, the youth will change this country and elect barack and banish old men like rove, we are tired of dirty old political games that play on people’s fears, baracks just has to stay strong and realize that the old way of doing things is going to fight to the death to prevent chang

cb: and
GW Bush has run a company
Several – all of them he has run into the ground.
He ran a baseball team – that almost went bankrupt
He ran a State as Govenor – one of the easiest states to Run – the Govenor has virtually no power. The State Representatives have all the power in that state. He did nothing but look good.
Obama did not come from money – Daddy didn’t buy him a company or a Baseball team or have connections to give him a big job doing nothing.
SO WHAT’s your point?
He also ran circles around hillary clinton in raising money and managing money. While she had to put money in to survive, she has to borrow money from him to get out of debt.
LASTLY, McCain is mad because he won’t take a government hand-out to run his election on. He figured out how to RAISE HIS OWN MONEY to pay for HIS CAMPAIGN.
AND McSAME is mad cause Obama won’t take GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS to CAMPAIGN…
HOW FUNNY IS THAT!

Obama is no way qualified to be president. Neither is John McCain. But then again we have the same mentality of Americans picking candidates on what the federal government gives it citizens in terms of freebies. Both of these bozos are from the same socialist cut of cloth. When are the people of the United States going to demand that the Federal Government actually abide by the US Constitution? Well, there is one group that is demanding it.. The Libertarian Party… the one Political Party that scares Republicans, Democrats, and the Mainstream Media. It will be Libertarian thought and actions that will restore the US.. If it is to be restored to its greatness and the citizens are truly free again.

I think it is interesting that no matter who the member of the press is that reports on Obama, they always refer to him as an “African-American”. In this article a comment is made regarding the clubs that many of the members of the Hill attend and whether they would even allow Obama in. Hmmm…first of all…Obama is only 1/2 black. Although he never comes out and says that he is a white man running for president, the fact remains he is the “other” white man running for president. His mother who never seems to be mentioned unless it is in passing, and never seems to be seen, is white. He has white grandparents…again we only hear about the African-American ones who happen to live in Africa, but his white mother had white parents….oh and as for Obama being labeled African-American…if this is so, then how is he eligible to be president? After countless years of history I remember numerous lessons on how the president of this nation needs to be a naturally born American, not a naturalized citizen. The term African-American is a term which correctly used identifies a person who is from Africa (regardless of complexion) who has moved to America and gained citizenship. This may be a “politically correct” term to use to describe a dark skinned person from African decent, but it is not grammatically correct. And as a person from Chicago who has had the misfortune of seeing Obama in “inaction” over the last few years…I agree with Rove (whom I can’t believe I actually am agreeing with on something), black or white, the image of Obama being the person at the cocktail party commenting on everyone else does seem extremely accurate.

And for those Hillary supporters who will vote for McSame – way to show support for your old candidate’s life long values – vote for the guy who shares little of them, and actively works against most of them. Clearly you don’t understand Marx if you think his ideals aren’t right in lock step w/ Obama! Read the 10 pillars and then look at Obama’s platform! It’s startling how close they are – Obama merely tries to tell it a little more rosey, that’s all! Don’t be fooled!!

Unfortunately, it probably won’t work this time. The American public has been awakened from its long slumber by the sound of exploding IEDs, the crash of the economy, and the hum of the shredder as it rips up the Constitution. Nice try Mr. Rove, but your tactics are old hat now!

There are many black people men and women who clearly are superior to Obama and I wish they would run. As appealing as the “change brand” sounds, the reality is that B. Hussien has made some rather divisive remarks that do in fact have the wiff of elitism which lends to Rove’s remarks. However, Rove himself is an atheist and has zero credibility on the matter considering he has a history of disengenious behavior to say the least.
I simply caution my countrymen to look beyond the rhetoric and analyze the history of both candidates. A good sales person by nature sounds like music to your ears – look at what can reasonably be delivered and the history of the person making the promises – B. Hussien has done NOTHING substantial in his political career – it’s all talk. Granted, McCain is far from my what I consider an ideal candidate, but at least there is a reasonable degree of trustworthiness based on his visible service in the Senate.

How about talking about the issues…Based on the personages in this race, I cannot in good conscience vote for either. But when I look at the important issues–choice versus life, who will be chosen for the Supreme Court, etc, I have to vote for the more conservative. Notice, I said MORE conservative–because McCain is not a true conservative. So I will have to vote for the lesser of two evils–which is actually voting for an evil.
I prefer to vote “NONE OF THE ABOVE”.

Obama is the same old hash rehashed. He knows that he gets votes if he makes race an issue. What other means is he going to use to promote his candidacy—his vast experience? He continuously stumbles with error after error because he doesn’t even have a neophyte’s level of experience. I’m no McCain supporter but fifty years ago Obama wouldn’t be taken seriously as a candidate even if he happened to be white. Are we supposed to believe that he can be a more convincing commander in chief to McCain? Give me a break!

“Even if you never met him, you know this guy,” Rove said, per Christianne Klein. “He’s the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by.”
-So Obama’s like George W. Bush?
I don’t think so.

Not only is he making the snide comments, but he’s making money off his derogatory comments during his fundraisers. He’s planning to hang out with the terrorists and renegade leaders who other presidents chose not to deal with. He doesn’t give any charity to those poor folks who he let down when they didnt get any benefits from his community activism days and now their houses are falling down because he helped folks get awards who couldn’t produce quality work. His problem is that he is naive and inexperienced.

Great comment Jack, thanks!
Of course, Rove IS the guy who vandalizes your car and blames the help, referring to them with racial epithets.
Rove is the rich, power junkie, corrupted, nasty guy who made it screwing everybody around him, smearing, fabricating shams, and stealing from those who cannot afford lawyers.
Rove is the guy who goes to the classist, elitist, country club with the best date that money can buy.
Rove, of course, hates the cool, adorable guy who made it working hard, who has talent and merits, and got invited to the party because people likes him and his smart, gorgeous wife who loves him, and would never pay attention to a repulsive Rove.
Rove is the arrogant who lies to the face of those concerned for the lives lost in an unnecessary war, and who thinks that he is smart for having dishonored and dismembered his own party.

exnavpc;
John McCain votes WITH the Republicans 87.8% of the time, which is VERY high, since the Republican spread is greater than the Democrat spread. That actually puts him in the mid-90s on a curve. Compare that to the little blow-hard Ron Paul who only votes with the Republicans less than 75% of the time (which puts him at about 60% on a curve).
JOHN McCAIN IS A CONSERVATIVE, ESPECIALLY ON CHOICE. In fact, he LIVES HIS FAITH, since they adopted a disfigured foster child.
He is impatient with fools, that does not make him a “LIBERAL.” In fact, he is the OPPOSITE of a liberal. Geez, I’m sick of defending him alone!!!!!!! I could use a little help getting the truth out.
He is RIGHT about amnesty. If you don’t know that, study economics. It is tied to the abortion issue. USE YOUR BRAINS, NOT YOUR EMOTIONS. That is what the LEFT DOES!!!!!
UNTIL ABORTION IS slowed, we have to import workers, which leads to amnesty, which more closer follows the US Constitution. WHY CAN “CONSERVATIVES” not understand nuances? Why do “conservatives” not study economics? John McCain is FOLLOWING THE CONSTITUTION, yet some [uninformed] “conservatives” are giving him holy heck.
Take a class, or give him a break. He is not the dummy. My degree is in political science. I work in politics. I have studied immigration since 1999. You may think that I am wrong and that John McCain is wrong. However, we are considering FACTS, not emotional populist hyperbolic rants.

What’s really getting old is the same ole Republican versus Democratic stereotypical slams which do nothing but obfuscate the facts and detract average American’s from participating in the process. The selfish party faithful on both sides of the isle care less about the country and more about their party loyalty at the expense of our country’s best interest. Yes, this is an old argument but it’s one which clearly hasn’t lost its relevance. Enough already with the prejudice and class attacks!
Both are neo-aristocracies which need to return to their respective orgins where ironically more common ground can be found.

Eileen, Obama’s comments were not insightful at all. They were stupid and stereotypical. Words taken in the context of his explanation were stupid and he was stereotyping people he can’t relate to and knows nothing about. It shows his inexperience and arrogance. Arrogance that has the potential to undermine any good ideas he has.

Rant Continues:
Seriously – what the hell is either party doing for the average person? Republicans sit back and mock the attempts of the Democrats as being stupid and in turn, Democrats call Republican solutions foolhearty. Who the hell is mediating the discussion and upon what basis? What American’s need to start hearing are visible solutions to problems with results. I say visible meaning that we need to see who’s benefiting from what. ENOUGH with these G’Dam pork barrel projects and blackmail amendments to legislation!
PS – Jack Murtha needs to be impeached from Congress and prosecuted for his role in speading lies and misinformation against the Haditha Marines! You’d think at the very least this sorry SOB would personally apologize to the people who he falsely accused – but oh no.. that would discredit the Democratic party lies about Iraq which they conveniently used to undermine their enemies (i.e. Republicans). Another case and point of the party loyal putting their interests before the Country. Both parties are guilty and both must suffer at the ballot box if the AVERAGE American wants his/her country back.

So, its obviously Rove you are talking about yourself, or someone closely related to you. Oh, will Michael Steele or Juan Williams be invited or perhaps the Secretary of State did you invite her to the party? I think not. It just so happens that when Karl supports a candidate there has been allegations that the opposing candidate is: a liar about his military record (Kerry), mentally unstable (McCain), pedophile (Mark Kennedy), has an illegitimate child (McCain) and so on.
This is only Karl’s opening salvo – more is sure to come but it you won’t be able to tell it’s from him.
Digging dirt on an opponent is called Opposition Research. And when Karl’s greasy fingers got into the firing of US Attorneys it turned out that Karl’s guy in charge of Opposition Research was appointed as the US Attorney in Arkansas. Yep, a professional dirt digger given the job as US Attorney — in Hillary’s old state! Wonder why?

I have to agree with Rove on this one. Obama is arrogant.
Some responses:
First I have no problem voting for an African American candidate or bi-racial candidate – I just want one that’s qualified.
Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with 90% of African Americans voting for an African American candidate, but on the same not – there is nothing wrong wiht 90% of white people voting for the white candidate. However, when we do that we’re called racist – which is where the problem is – the double standards.

Funny that nearly all of the comments that bash Senator Obama as “arrogant” are by people who have never met the man or have had a chance to have a conversation with him.
Funny that most of the people who’ve actually done so (people like me), actually find him to be intelligent, respectful, and level-headed.
What is peculiar also, is that comments made by one of the most well-known slimebags in Washington are actually taken seriously. The citizens of this country are becoming clowns faster and faster.

Carl Rove will say anything about anything. This is one gentleman that scares me. Why would newspapers even take time to report anything he says? He’s the notorious “take care of person/project” guy. Whatever it takes and don’t get caught.
This particular comment is way off. Maybe he is losing his touch. You are quite correct about the country club aspect. You do not see many blacks belonging to country clubs.
Many of country clubs are snobbish. And this is from personal experience. My husband was a CEO, but was of Chinese/Mexican descent. I am caucasian. He wanted to change from a private San Francisco Club, and couple here in Marin did not display good marketing presentation. We did not like their attitude, and probably would not like the people. Their loss.
An unknown Obama would have problems joining some golf clubs.
So Rove is way off!!!! Must not be a golfer. And doesn’t know what he is talking about!!!! Rove is the worst!! Wish they could get the evidence to finally prosecute him for a few of his crimes.

Kerry - Strongly documented military record, 3 purple hearts.
Rove Attack – Kerry military record falsified.
McCain - Strong enough to endure harsh captivity.
Rove Attack – McCain unstable from the experience.
McCain - Adopted Bangladeshi girl from mother Theresa’s orphanage
Rove Attack - Has illegitimate black child
Mark Kennedy- Juvenile and family-court judge
- President of the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect
Rove Attack - Pedophile
Max Cleland – Lost both legs and one arm in Viet Nam
Rove Attack - Unpatriotic. Ads morphed Cleland’s face to Osama’s and Saddam’s (Ann Coulter went on to claim it injuries caused by his own grenade as if she was there)

Besides, this guy committed treason by helping to out a CIA agent who was working to investigate the state of Iran’s WMD programs. Oh, and he helped to pollute our judicial system by cronyism for lawyers. However, I, like most hard working Americans, have never been to a country club. It’s telling for Rove to use such imagery. We know what crowd he runs with and what HIS points of reference are. Re. Rove’s remarks – I’ve seen Rove on some TV news shows, and he comes across well. However, if he states Obama arrogant, etc., the question is – what does he have to back up this view? If he had an encounter, anecdote, etc., to back it up, great. Otherwise, it’s just his opinion and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Like I said, I’m not voting for Obama, I’m voting for McCain, but I really wish people would stop the mud-slinging and attacks and talk about the issues.
It’s perfectly legit to make a case that Obama’s raising taxes will hurt the economy. It’s legit to disagree with McCain’s making the tax cuts permanent. Comparing Obama to a terrorist or McCain to a Nazi are just low-class, yet I’ve seen people do that. It’s ridiculous.

Only someone that arrogant would open his mouth and take a chance on alienating an entire group of people that he does need to vote for him if he wants to get elected.

Illinois has produced a few good politicians; Dirksen, Simon, Lincoln, even Reagan, etc. Unfortunately Obama is not one of them. They have also produce three (in the nation’s most un-wanted Top Ten) of the worst; Durbin, Blagoivich and Obama. (aka: the three stooges).

“coolly arrogant” may be part of the reason Obama has not connected with the other half of the democrats during the primary.
Do not discount Rove’s role in this election for McCain, he is not done with politics yet. Obama’s campaign should expect republicans to listen to Rove give advice on beating the democrats for the Whitehouse.
Like him or not (I don’t) he will be lurking behind the scenes for the republicans and this will ensure another election where the voters lose.

Examples of “cool arrogance”:
1) Christians just need to get over their opposition to gay marriage and special rights for gays. Inclusion is the “higher truth” and Christians must get enlightened or shut up.
2) Christians just need to get enlightened that abortion is here to stay, that abortion rights should be broadened, and all consent laws thrown out. Obama has declared his first act as president will be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act and we should all just get on board and celebrate.
3) Conservatives need to just get over their belief that engaging dictators and radicals only grants them legitimacy, and that such a course is naive and dangerous. We need to get over such childish notions and accept that Obama has the higher knowledge that will fix everything.
The real arrogance is the promulgation of a new radical orthodoxy of tolerance that is blatantly intolerant, of an agenda that forbids dissent, of a delusion of self-importance and granduer that admits no potential for error. That’s the view from this non-country club, health-care paying, self-employed American in the trenches.

Tweaking the presidential seal and then putting it in front of him when he talks wasn’t arrogant? That was unveiled as the new “Obama symbol” on Thursday and was scrapped by Monday after people raised their eyebrows at the presumptivenss. MInd you, it wasn’t scrapped because the candidate saw the arrogance in the statement he was making, it was scrapped because he was following what was being dictated by others. Everything about his man is image – no substance.

Rove’s characterization of Obama is not credible. It is just mean, intended to incite people who are smug, ignorant or worse. Encouraging and energizing prejudice may be an effective political tactic, but it is not honorable and it is not good for the country no matter who does it.

“Obama is arrogant” Obama is very confidant and exudes confidence. for the voter thei mens they think he has the answers to our problems. A very good thing a leader may have.
“Democrats will follow him” Isn’t that the definition of leadership. It is nice to see that you recognize his leadership qualities.
“B hussein obama” When you can not tear at the mans issues you just simply attack his name, inferring some muslim connection.. That type of debate went out in the 3rd grade.

“Interesting that Mr. Rove would use a country club metaphor to describe the first major party African-American presidential candidate, whom I’m sure wouldn’t be admitted into many country clubs that members of the Capitol Hill Club frequent.”
Really, Jake Tapper? Barack Obama, the hottest ticket in town, not to mention a U.S. Senator, wouldn’t be allowed in a country club in DC? Are you kidding?
I think the point of Rove’s advice is that Obama comes off as elitist and too well-heeled. As a Harvard man who’s now in the country’s most exclusive club (that would be the Senate), and who hobnobs with U.Chicago academics in his spare time, that depiction, if inaccurate, is likely to stick.
Obamaphiles can be arrogant at their own risk. But the fact that your man is up by 2 points (not coming close to breaking 50% btw) in an election climate where Dems are favored overwhelmingly, against a has-been Republican loser, is pretty clear evidence that you’ve got a lot of work to do. And making snide (and inaccurate) remarks and brushing off potential (and obvious) lines of attack against Obama may not be the smartest thing to do. Nor will the continued playing of the race card.

This is the same McCain who wanted to go fishing so he built a lake on his own property. That is the definition of elitism.

Posted by: daisy | June 24, 2008, 12:23 pm 12:23 pm
Obama IS arrogant.
You might not like hearing it coming from Karl Rove, but I thought Hillary made a huge mistake when her campaign bit on the “elitist” charge, and failed to push the more accurate description of Obama as arrogant. Obama’s “bitter” remarks weren’t “elitist” – they were arrogant, thinking he could broadly paint a group of people like he did, even if he thought he was off record in the friendly confines of a fundraiser.
Obama’s statement that Hillary “lacked standing” to criticize him is arrogant. His remark about her time as First Lady as “taking tea” is condescending. When he said that Hillary was free to run for as long as she likes – that is just arrogant, especially after complaining how the campaign was like a good movie that has run a half hour too long.
The mantra of Obama’s compaign “Change You Can Believe In” is uplifting and at the same time negative, implying other candidates promising change are lying, pandering, or posturing, and a constant theme of Obama’s stump talks are that you will hear politicians/Washington say all sorts of things to be elected or while in office, and that he, Obama, is the exceptional, unique person who is “post-partisan” and not like all the rest. If that isn’t a soup kettle the size of Illinois full of arrogance it is hard to imagine what is.
So when Obama breaks his word on public financing, or says his words on NAFTA, which he used to skewer Hillary with in the primary, are “overheated”, or that Barack Obama doesn’t need experience or more of it because he is blessed with superior judgment, the conclusion that Obama is arrogant is not hard to reach.
Listening to some of Obama’s supporters during the primary, it is a quality that seems to be in great abundance. If it were oil, gasoline would be 56 cents a gallon and not $4.21 and rising.

Projecting much, Mr. Rove?
Please.
If you put Rove and all the presidential candidates at a party, it would be Rove and Giuliani leaning against the drapes with martinis and little umbrellas, ignoring their beautiful current gfs and scoping out new ones, while making snide comments about everyone. McCain would over hear, come over cussing, and punch Giuliani while Rove hid behind an overstuffed leather chair.
Maybe that’s Rove’s secret – to brand his political opponents with the very same abominable characteristics and traits that are his own.
And maybe this time they won’t delete my post. Is the editor a McCain guy?

This is a comment from Allen West….
Really worth reading…
My advice to Senator Obama is to run as a Man and Leader, and the American people will evaluate you as such, not as a victim. This is a Presidential race, based solely on a capacity to lead the United States of America. It is not about skin tone…however, perhaps we should come to expect these immature statements.
It also seems rather humorous that the Presidential candidate who was supposed to be such a “uniter” and transcend race is the one talking about it the most. If Senator Obama was confident in his abilities and character, he would not need to create a crutch for failure. Senator Obama has just tipped his hand, any criticism of him and his policies will be directly attributed to racism. I congratulate Senator Obama for taking race relations in America back some 30 years.

Sylvia Johnsen: There’s a difference between dredging up race and using it as a crunch, and directly addressing issues such as race as they are presented to you by the press and the electorate. If you folow the race close enough, you’ll notice any time race is mentioned by the Obama campaign, it’s in response to something or someone else.
As for Karl Rove, it does seem like he’s an empty hat, trying to keep himself in the limelight long after it’s moved on. I wonder if he wasn’t taking a page out of Ann Coulter’s playbook with the provocative country-club metaphor…
Posted by: Brian | June 24, 2008, 3:57 pm 3:57 pm
Dear Sylvia Johnsen,
Maybe you should look up the term elitist.
Elitist – the belief that government or control should be in the hands of a small group of privileged, wealthy, OR intelligent people, or the active promotion of such a system.
It has less to do with money, but rather the individuals attitude.
Interesting how you draw this conclusion that McCain is the elitist, when it is Obama who will not stoop so low as to meet with wounded veterans from his own state who just happen to disagree with him on the Iraq war. Obama obviously sees his stance as the right stance and need not bother himself with the other side of the story.
That in itslef, is elitist and just happens to be a true story, because I was there on the day he refused to meet with us. Even though he was in his office at the time.
Posted by: Karl | June 24, 2008, 3:59 pm 3:59 pm
Ed Obama’s bitter comments weren’t arrogant. They were true. People are bitter about what’s happening in this country how their jobs are being shipped overseas. How gas keeps rising and they have to choose between food, gas for their car, or medicine. People in this country have every right to be bitter. They work hard and they end up getting screwed while the rich people, most of whom come from old money, get tax breaks and don’t have to worry about the same problems the little guys have to. Obama didn’t break his promise on public financing he said he’d do it if both candidates agreed to do full public financing. McCain has shown he can’t even keep his part of the deal as he already broke his own law during the primary when he used the public financing system as collateral for loans and got free ballot access.
Posted by: Bob Ross | June 24, 2008, 4:03 pm 4:03 pm
I’m sorry Karl but your definition of elitism doesn’t fit with your example. If that’s your definition would president Bush also be an elitist as he won’t meet with people who disagree with him, he controls who are allowed into his events and people have to sign loyalty oaths just to get in. i think the McCain example I gave earlier was the definition of an elitist when he wanted to go fishing so he built his own lake on his own piece of land just so he could fish.

Bob Ross says, “People are bitter about what’s happening in this country how their jobs are being shipped overseas. How gas keeps rising and they have to choose between food, gas for their car, or medicine.” And Obama’s policies of taxing businesses to the point that they move overseas will help this situation how? And taxing the “windfall profits” of the oil companies will work real well to help the price of gasoline. I’m sure they will just eat that loss of profit without passing along the cost to the consumer. He’s pandering to people that don’t understand economics and that want to get back at the “rich” people. Won’t work. We’re slowly becoming socialist.

Rove is a mixer. Trys to stir up things and then stands back to watch what happens. I do not think the Obama is an “Elites” Again and again statements are taken and twisted to get reactions. Lots of people are Bitter about the economy and loosing jobs. People do take comfort in their religion to help them get thru and some people cling to what is farmilar; like guns, in tough times. This was not meant to be critical but a fact of human nature. Michelle Obama said that “For the First time in her Live she was REALY PROUD” We are still hearing about that one. But most of the time it is quoted with out the “REALLY” part. This Black guy (yes a republican) was quoted in “Fortune” magazine as a terros attack would help McCain. I am sure he wasn’t suggesting that we would get attacked or he was hoping we would get attacked. He was just responding to a question.

Iam4thisCountry,
You have been misinformed. Michele gave the same basic speech three times. She did say “really” in one of those but in others she left it off.
Obama is right about one thing. People are bitter. I am bitter I am sick of these empty promises given by politicians and Obama is no different. My bitterness does not drive me to my “religion, guns or antipathy of those who are not like me.” By the way I do not have antipathy towards those who are not like me, except for maybe politicians taking my money and destroying this great country. I don’t like Mccain either but I do see him as the lesser of two evils. Obama is just another whining liberal that will screw this country up. This country has turned on the current President because he has had such success at protecting this nation. What the advisor was saying was true but shouldn’t have been said. Mccain is the onl candidate that can protect this country. Obama is naive and is viewed as weak by many here and abroad. He needs Mccain to protect Michele from republican attacks. Mccain has absolutely no power over what the right wing talk hosts and bloggers do just the same as Obama doesn’t control the liberal media even though they all but bow down to him.
Bitter
Posted by: Bitter | June 24, 2008, 7:36 pm 7:36 pm
Given the mess the country is in, I find it distressing that so much thought is given to Roves spin. Please refer to the Obama Oct 2, 2002 speech, before the Iraq war started.
To quote- “I don’t oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other arm-chair, weekend warriors in this Administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.
What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income – to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression.”

Sylvia Johnsen: It is stunning that YOU are attempting to change the meaning of words.
If you want to talk about “privilege” then you should talk about privilege, not elitism. They are two different things.
Cindy McCain was born into a wealthy family. But, that did not stop her from becoming a special education teacher. That is NOT elitism.
Michelle Obama went to Princeton, but griped about how she was treated there. That IS elitism.

Bob Ross does not know the meaning of “logic” because he is using the word in a very sloppy (and very incorrect) popular manner that is nonsensical.

It is interesting how you mock Obama for his 143 days of Senate service and later call up the name of Abraham Lincoln as one of our great leaders.
Too bad you don’t know history or of what you speak. Yes, Lincoln is considered as one of the great presidents, but you obviously don’t know that his political experience is not that much different from Obama’s. In fact, their backgrounds (Illinois, lawyers, limited political experience) are striking. Lincoln is actually one of the prime examples that shows that lack of political experience is not a liability.
And McCain’s years and years of experience, living in Washington, having no connection with real people is really a liability. Those people who live in Wash so many years have no concept of what the real world is like. Besides, I seem to recall Nixon has a great deal of experience…oh, and what about George Bush…he was the executive of Texas all those years. Wow, I am impressed.

You should read up more on Michelle’s Princeton experience and you would learn any griping she did had to do with the racism that existed there. I believe when she went to Princeton in the early 1980′s, she was one of 10-15 African Americans attending. That number is stunning!!! The parents of her roommate at Princeton tried to get their daughter moved to another room away from Michelle.
So why don’t you start dealing in facts yourself.

Really? Obama has a resume comparable to that of President Lincoln?
Lincoln served as an officer in the Illinois militia, served four successive terms in the Illinois House of Representatives and appeared before the Illinois State Supreme Court more than 400 times.
After he won the Presidency. he actually did suspend habeas corpus in the United States, imprisoned 18,000 suspected Confederate sympathizers (without trial), and spent money without congressional authorization.

I know that Rove is the one who gives generously to the club’s philanthropic arm. I have seen the income taxes of both subjects of this discussion in the press and Rove is the one who donates in the 7 figures, more than $1 million for the math challenged, to charities every year.

It is a paradox.
The Rove at the country club is clearly the charter member — the gatekeeper without peer whose bylaws keep out blacks, women, Jews.
There is some symmetry here: Obama, surely in the eyes of the right, is crashing their party.

To Red Sleeves:
Yes, Lincoln and Obama have similar resumes. They both served 8 years in the Illinois legislature. And yes, Lincoln was in the militia, but fighting civil rights cases in Chicago is great experience also.
And my bigger point was that they both had/have limited “Washington” experience so experience is not a predictor of success. Wasn’t that the Reagan, Bush, Clinton message? That you don’t want someone who has lived their whole life in Washington, like McCain has.
Besides, Obama respects his wife, whereas it is pretty clear that McCain has issues there. Do you know what perjorative he called his wife in public in the early 90′s? Let’s just say it is about the most cruel thing you can say to a woman. Two journalists just published a book describing the scene in detail.
Nice guy, that McCain…

Karl Rove says Obama is “arrogant.” That’s the pot calling the kettle black, I think.

I like how Karl Rove never mentioned John McCain’s elitism. There is a famous incident the White House machine hid a few years back in which John McCain screamed at a kitchen employee at a posh country club in Phoenix, Arizona. This incident was followed by another in which McCain threw a dinner dish on the floor. The same man that Rove accused of having a bad temper is now being protected he his now a Bush toady.

And Obama is the one that just finished paying off his student loans a year or two ago. Which one is elitist in that picture? hmmm?

What’s most disturbing is how Obama is above reproach. It’s become almost blasphemy to criticize him in anyway. Kudos to John Stewart for pointing this out in his comedy routine, but he’ll probably catch flack for that, just like the rest of us. It’s as if Obama has been packaged and sold to us as some kind of diety, when he’s nothing more than a junior senator, with a thin resume, who voted present a hundred times at his job.

All politician’s will tell a lie every now and then but come on fellow Voters. Just listen to two speeches that Obama makes and concentrate on the lies he tells. He’ll tell one group that he’s for it and the next day if that doesn’t work out with them he’s against it. Never have I listened to a Presidential Candidate that lied each time he makes a speech as this year with Mr Obama. No one knows exactly where he stands with the issues because he will not let the voting public know. Ask him a question and like all Democrats he blames the Republican Party for all our woes. A vote for Obama is truly a vote for change and just remember, thats a big change for the next four years. A change that it may take years to correct once he’s out. THINK people. I’ll pull the lever for John McCain and hope the majority of Americans will also.

The abundance of country-club metaphors only shows how deeply the institution is ingrained in American life? Maybe we are all a little more elitist than we think?

Day One w/ObamasSpeech—-I’m for this
Day Two w/Obama’s Speech—I’m against what I was for yesterday
Day Three w/Obama’s Speech–I apoligize, my words were taken in the wrong context the last two days.
Come on, what are you for and what are you against? This man switches his position according to the group people that he’s speaking to.

Re: Rove calling Obama Coolly arrogant??-this from a man who routinely thumbs his nose at congress by ignoring subpoenas multiple times? Give me a break, who can take Rove seriously—his “war is peace” 1984esk doublespeak is appalling. This man should not be quoted by reputable news sources. Let Fox do that.

I’ve read message after message about the war and 4000+ deaths. Does anyone not remember 911 and all the gungho for the President to go and blast them off the face of the earth. Everyone was for it now everyone acts like they didn’t approve at the time. We don’t have a draft now so everyone must be a volunteer. I think they realized there would be a chance of not coming back since they were trained to fight. Just please back off this crap and support our boys that are there and that might have to go over there or even worse places. Both of my brothers and one sister served in VietNam. All made it back (thank God) with everything in tac except for agent orange. I still remember the President addressing the people of the plans and everyone excited about it now he’s a #######. We elect these people to make decisions we don’t want to make so give some slack.

Are some of you people kidding me?? OBAMA is a liar? Are you seriously putting Obama up for comparison next to people like Karl Rove and George Bush? AND OBAMA is the liar? The Bush administration has done nothing but lie since that conniving dunce was elected. Bush endorses McCain. And you would give Bush the equivalent of a third term? Uh huh. Pull the level for McCain, who is also a liar? (And an arrogant, self-importantly, wildly uncontrollable one at that) I say pull the lever ON McCain…drop him to the pit of despair for all I care.

Rove is trying to call Obama an elitist, and the only comparison he can make is some guy he doesn’t like at his country club? Country club snickerers?
It’s like trying to pin an elitist title on someone by comparing him to the guy who always complains about the selection at your wine-tasting parties.

Rove think he is above the law, above the constitution, above the institutions. He is so powerfull that he beleived he can rule out the legislative corps on their duty. this is a dictatorship mentality. Now with all this he thought Obama is arrogant. What a contrast!
Is he arrogant because he is from the midle class? Is he arrogant because he fought to earn everything he gets. Is he arrogant because he was Raisen in by a single mom, lived the simple life with his grand parent in a single room apt… ? Is he arrogant because he looks like regular american fighting to achieve the american dream? Is he arrogant because he comes from too far? Rove needs to look up the meaning of the word “Arrogant” and compare his own behaviour.

Carl Rove is the height of arrogance. I can not wait to see him squirm if anyone ever has the —– to bring him down.

It’s interesting how the dems continually slam Carl Rove, until his statements reinforce their vitriol for the republicans. I don’t care what the media says, if you connect the dots, it’s obvious that Obama’s lipstick/pig comment, which came just days after Palin scored points with her pitbulll/lipstick statement, was an ugly sexist response from Obama. Now, Obama is crying that he was misinterpreted, while the media, once again assists him in playing the victim. The deck has been so stacked in favor of Obama, whether it’s the media’s refusal to vet Obama in the first place, to giving Obama free rides with Wright, Farrakhan, Rezko, Ayers, etc.. The media, as well as shows like The View, are continuing to show extreme bias against Senator John McCain, while kissing Obama’s ###.

I just can’t figure out the so-called republicans that are being swept up in all this Obamaism. He’s becoming a modern day false prophet. When are “we the people” going to start to retake America back from the biggest enemy this great nation has ever met. The government it self.
Majority of “we the people” are being brain washed by a smooth talking President, abusing my grand children’s future to bury our strong religious values, Bill of Rights, and our fore Fathers dreams of America.
President Obama will be the DOWN FALL of our way of government and the “Father of the new United Socialist States of America”.

Carl, I’m a 20yr Naval retiree, also I’m 100% disabled by the Veterns Administration. Social Security turned me down for benifits, I havent worked in 11 months due to my health. Is there any where I can go for help. Without getting a expensive lawyer?
If I receive a check from the U.S. government for my disabilities and the USA goes bankrupt. Would we loose our benifits? I bet there are a lot of Vets thinking about this possible problem.
