Rudy Weighs In

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani just weighed in on Sen. Barack Obama’s remarks to ABC News concerning terrorism.

"Throughout this campaign, I have been very concerned that the Democrats want to take a step back to the failed policies that treated terrorism solely as a law enforcement matter rather than a clear and present danger," Giuliani said. "Barack Obama appears to believe that terrorists should be treated like criminals — a belief that underscores his fundamental lack of judgment regarding our national security. In a post 9/11 world, we need to remain on offense against the terrorist threat which seeks to destroy our very way of life."

Terrorist aren’t… criminals???

In summary: “Blah blah blah 9/11 blah blah blah 9/11 blah blah blah 9/11.”
Now, if only Bush would have taken seriously the terrorism intelligence that his administration sat on for months — then Rudy wouldn’t have anything to talk about.

Yep.
Noun Verb 9/11. Repeat.
Thanks Rudi.

9, 11 and a verb ..is back !! How’s that Florida campaign going Rudy?

Posted by: ncvoter | June 17, 2008, 3:23 pm 3:23 pm

There is NO controversy. What Obama said is perfectly fine. McCain is trying to make a “controversy” because that is ALL he has.
Rudy only knows 9/11.

Rudy Giuliani. Sounds familiar, but I just can’t place it.

First the undead Al Gore, and now Giuliani?
Ah, jeez: is every political has-been whose surname begins with “G” duty-bound to pop off about something this week?

Rudy, you know better then that……Honest anything to get the public up in arms scare tatics don’t work ask Hilly…..

Posted by: me | June 17, 2008, 3:28 pm 3:28 pm

instead of reasoned responses, we get the usual ‘Rove-Bush’ scare tactics from McCain and Guiliani – Haven’t we heard enough of that for the last seven years? This should prove to everyone how aligned McCain is with Bush.

Yo Rudy! Glad you are back!!
Keep up the talk
“Barack Obama appears to believe that terrorists should be treated like criminals — a belief that underscores his fundamental lack of judgment regarding our national security.”
Vanessa I think Clintons CIA
director and the 9/11 comission
see the foolishness of not considering terrorists as enemy combatants. Read the entirearticle and quote the entire quote.

Vanessa, you wrote: “Terrorist aren’t… criminals???”
No they are WARRIORS. They are in the middle of a jihad against the United States and the Civilized World. Treating them like common criminals, with all of the legal rights that entails, means that most will be given bail pending trial following their capture. Guess what they will be doing while out on bail? They will be planning and possibly even executing their suicide missions. Gee I guess you liberals will be pleased that they will have to forfeit their bail! But what about the dozens of innocent people who would be killed, maimed or injured?

Posted by: James Danley | June 17, 2008, 3:34 pm 3:34 pm

And we care what Rudy says???? NOT!!
Maybe if he puts his red dress on McCain will ask him to be VP!

Posted by: HP Boston | June 17, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm

Ha ha ha. I’m inclined to see any criticism coming out of that sleazebag mouth as a reason to support object of said criticism. Keep it up, Rudy! Why don’t you get Kerick out there to help amplify the message?

Posted by: Yancey | June 17, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm

Hey Rudy – the gas prices, food prices, health care costs are destroying my way of life.Lets not forget, Rudy that these guys just waltz through checkpoints and got on planes. I can understand one or two sneaking by, but all of them. Was someone asleep at the wheel or what. Its not like a commando force invaded the US and fought their way to the planes sitting on the tarmac.

Posted by: JimBob | June 17, 2008, 3:49 pm 3:49 pm

james danley first off jihad means holy
and secondly you need to understand how the legal system works, they arent oging to be released as you and the other repubs seem to think on bail or anything
but they will no longer be in a legal black hole where we keep them forever locked away with no questions asked
if someone is a suspected terrorists and the government came and took you away,
you would want to plead your case
if they are guilty then they will be sentenced…
and its only IF THEY WANT IT THEY CAN ASK FOR IT

Obama has to convince Americans his new approach on national security and war on terrorists will make America safer…
Unfortunately he has not yet….More people still believe the peace makes thru strength…

I understand the emotion that says we need to round up terrorists and do nasty things to them and be as beastly to them as we possibly can. But the point is that that is exactly what will and is fuelling anti US sentiment across the Middle East and across the whole world and therefore creating more terrorist sentiment. I am assuming there is currently a US law that makes plotting a terrorist attack on the US a federal offense. Use that. Why nearly 7 years after 9/11 are there still people at Gitmo? Why have they not been prosecuted? Either the evidence is there or not. Why has justice not been given to the relatives of 9/11? Giuliani, McCain, Bush and it seems all Republicans seem to hope a couple of foreign adventures make up for failing in this.

And besides maybe the world and the US was a little saner on 9/10 than it has been since.

Rudy,
The man who chose to have the emergency operations center located in the World Trade Towers is talking about combating terrorism? Rudy, the man who chose to not integrate police and fire radios leading to the death of dozens of first responders is talking about how to fight terrorism? Rudy, who illegally provided police protection for his mistress while he was Mayor has what moral ground to lecture us on?

It was our country’s loss when the defective DNC pushed for the boneheaded Bush-like Bozo in lieu of the winner of the popular vote and sharper candidate Hillary Clinton.
Maybe it was done becausethe word “boneheaded”so aptly applies to
both B O and the DNC… and thus, there was an immediate connection between the two.
Notice how now that he’s nominee, B O wants Michigan to be fully seated… now that there’s no choice of nominee involved.
As for the changes he has promised…. did he ever say/ confirm what they were supposed to be?
Be careful what Obama promises. As we’ve seen, the change we can be sure of… is that he’ll change his mind!
Hillary before Obama
McCain before Obama!
COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY!!!

Had the FBI system been as capable as the systems Rudy Giuliani innovated for crime fighting, we would have caught the 9/11 terrorists. See COMPSTAT.
He is not the only one involved in the project, but COMPSTAT became the model for effective use of databases in crime fighting. BTW, before you go paranoid on the freedom issues, there are policies in place for the use of police data and how it is shared. Google and your insurance and marketing companies know far more about you than COMPSTAT (a statistics system).
So next time terrorists attack, send Sergey Brin, the guy who sells you insurance and an ad exec.

This is another Kitty Dukakis moment. Obama says Bin Laden has rights because the Supreme Court says so.

Well, SOMEthing’s up, geevil. Over at
Obama Hates the Cheney Energy Task Force! (But Not the So-Called “Cheney Energy Bill”),
Maybe that “post-partisan” Obama doll’s about wound down. Here’s hoping.

True writes
“Obama has to convince Americans his new approach on national security and war on terrorists will make America safer…”
But there is nothing new about Obama’s approach.
Obama wants the same approach as used after the 93 world trade attack, shortly after Clinton took office. The attack was designed to take the tower down. The “law enforcement” reaction did not stave off two embassy attacks or the attack on the Cole after the first WTC attack. The attack on an aspirin factory seemed not to help either. 100 million dollars later we got a conviction but no end to attacks.
The WTC was attacked again shortly after Bush took office on 911. The response was dramatic and way beyond the “law enforcement” approach.
Where are the follow up attacks? I submit that our 911 response has helped to thwart and deny the enemy the ability to attack since 911.
If Obama is elected and we are again tested and revert to a “law enforcement” response will you consol the victims of any attacks that follow?

Posted by: smith | June 17, 2008, 4:49 pm 4:49 pm

I smell another McCain moment coming up. You know the one where he claims AL Qaeda is training in Iran?
Why is McCain not living up to his Senate duties? Why did he avoid the Senate Armed Services hearing on torture today? He is the ranking member, why is he now supporting torture. He was against it before he was for it. Flip-FLop on sale. McSame and McBush.

Posted by: geevil | June 17, 2008, 4:51 pm 4:51 pm

Markymark, you miss the point. These “enemy combatants” or prisoners taken during war. In case you haven’t heard, we are at war with these Islamic extremists. There have been prisoners taken during every war throughout the history of mankind. You take them off the battlefield and detain them until the war is over. That way they won’t be put back onto the battlefield to kill again. The only other alternative is to take no prisoners and just kill them all. I hope you agree that that is even worse! What makes this war so different is these warriors are not members of a particular nation’s army; the battlefield is the entire world; and this war will be going on for decades.
Trying these individuals within the American judicial system will require declassifying all of the top secret intelligence that is helping us to foil future attacks against us. That will hamstring our ability to foil future attacks. So the government will have to choose between releasing these warriors or revealing exactly how we are able to know the who, what, where and when of another attack — placing our national security at risk.

I have to agree with Rudy on this one. Obama is to weak when it comes to national security.

Posted by: Omentum | June 17, 2008, 4:57 pm 4:57 pm

Hmmm…what happened in 2006 when we tried to run on the fear of terrorist platform? Anyone? Anyone? Seems like we lost something.
McCain is weak and does not have enough of the right experience. We do not need insider beltway experience. We need someone who respects the constitution and the American value systems. McCain is the same as Bush who stated that the constitution is just a GD piece of paper. McBUSH. MCSame. McScary.

Belle…Rumor has it Rudy has a certain tape…look for him to be popping in a lot on Fox and in print.

Posted by: LL Barra | June 17, 2008, 5:32 pm 5:32 pm

Baby and bathwater. Our initial response to 9/11 was correct. We went to fight alQaeda. It was the Bush doctrine of pre-emption and the invasion of Iraq that were wrong.
Don’t get confused. We are still fighting the war on terror, but it is not a war we declare on a nation. Afghanistan is necessary to take down the training camps. It may be necessary to take steps in Pakistan yet to be determined. However, law enforcement work is a very important part of the global strategy particularly with the so-called lumpen terrorist cells.
Coordination is a key and we won’t get that cooperation stomping around the world in hob-nailed boots. We do have to refine our strategies but that is not something Obama has in his hip-hop pockets. It is something the next POTUS must plan carefully with the military AND the law enforcement agencies. The National Response Plan is in place but it takes more than a single administration to implement such.

LL Barra writes:

Well, here’s hoping it’s of these two Senators in flagrant impropriety with each other.
Then the Senate could run the country for a couple of years, while the Democrats (not to mention the Republicans!) figure out how to run a straight primary election.

Posted by: Belle Starr | June 17, 2008, 6:23 pm 6:23 pm

Fighting terrorism is a law enforcement and intelligence corroboration. Obama’s detractors fail to mention this. OMG, I’m defending Obama, something which I didn’t anticipate!

Rudy should fade away and take care of his wife & all his ex – wives. He’s a loser, he couldn’t carry a single state in the GOP primaries and he’s still yapping away.

Posted by: Rudy | June 17, 2008, 10:03 pm 10:03 pm

Bhrandon, “jihad” is an Islamic term, Arabic for “battle.” This “battle” can be man against vice and passion. Or it can refer to a holy war against infidels.
You wrote: “…you need to understand how the legal system works, they arent going to be released as you and the other repubs seem to think on bail or anything.” You CANNOT guarantee that. All it takes is one judge to decide that bail cannot be denied. Besides there have already been a couple of instances where the Bush Administration reluctantly decided to drop charges against defendants because they did not want to declassify the evidence that was necessary for conviction.

I thought journalism was supposed to be fair and bias. I wonder why when I post anything slightly negative about Obama the flip-flopper – say what you have to get elected presumptive nominee my comments get deleted.
Once again – Obama needs to go back to the senate and gain experience. He clearly does not have the training needed for the post in which he is running. The more he speaks – the clearer his inexperience shine through brightly. The presidency of the US or any other country is not a “Learn as you go” program.
Jake – report the news and don’t be bias. You can clearly have the candidate of choice for yourself but not here.

Obama is scary and he is going to ruin this country and more so than Bush has.
We have a story here in RI. Where a woman waited in the car of a shopping plaza while her mother ran into a grocery store to get some items. While she was waiting a “man” approached the car with a knife forcing the woman a knife point to drive the car about 15 miles away to a wooded park and rapped her.
Once the guy was arrested it was found out that is an illegal alien – with a long record in his own country and Obama supports giving illegals driving licenses.
Good judgement Obama!

The more and more I hear Obama speak – the less I like him and I voted for him in the primary.
I am beginning to realize that all he is just a great motivational speaker when it is already scripted. When speaking with out paper or caught of guard on a question – his answers are like this
Well, um oh I thought I mean well uh uh um I think umm um Uh oh I said umm ohhh
