Something’s Different in Camp Clinton

ABC News’ Kate Snow Reports: As news of Sen. Barack Obama’s, D-Ill., triumph in the Democratic nomination battle travels across the nation, camp Clinton isn’t hearing any of it.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., is holding her election night event at New York Baruch College Athletic & Recreation Center in New York — the first time the candidate has not been in a contested or about to be contested state during the entire primary process.

Other than the fact that we are 2 stories below ground in a cinderblock no-frills gym on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, there are also NO televisions.

There have been large screen TV’s at every one of Clinton’s election night events. Her supporters watch the results come in, they cheer when they’re shown on screen.

Tonight, no TV’s, cell phones and blackberries don’t work down here…no contact with the outside world. People in here cannot see the ongoing countdown clocks on the cable channels. They didn’t know when Obama has crossed the threshold.

Here’s an update from a Hillary supporter — Hillary is crushing Obama in South Dakota. Obama is limping across the finish line and is trying to declare victory before he’s zipped his pants. Is he going to have a smoke?
Hillary can stil fight it out in the credentials committee, and the floor of the convention. I’ll back her all the way.

NO way would I ever vote for Obama. I’m a republican and want to vote for Hillary in November. Hillary would be stupid not to keep going, she has so much support outside of the democratic party! If she take the back seat as VP I just couldn’t vote for her, Obama is just too risky!

Why doesn’t anyone mention the Michigan vote problem? The Demo committee gave Obama votes, when literally no one voted for him because he wasn’t on the ballot. How do you justify that? Talk about a rigged election. I am sure he could have got votes if he was on the ballot, but he took his name off. Period. Between that and the “1/2″ vote stuff, people are going to have a field day in Fla. and Michigan with slogans like “Vote Republican and your vote counts 100%” or “1 person 1 vote for Republicans only” Not to mention that Obama’s going over the top tonight is with the help of 45 or so votes from MI, where no one voted for him.

I’m a great, great fan of Hillary but, if she runs with Obama as the VP candidate, I’ll vote McCain in a heartbeat. I dislike Obama so much I would have a hard time voting for the ticket if he were the VP.
Hillary, if she could organize a decent internet fund raising campaign, would hold onto most of the big swing states as a 3rd party candidate. Obama and McCain would split the rest between them but neither would have as many electoral college votes as her.
Think about it Hillary!!!!!!!!!

Why doesn’t anyone mention the Michigan vote problem?
There is no problem.
No sanctioned primaries were held in Michigan.
The DNC used a variety of measures to apportion delegates with 1/2 votes.
The results of the fictitious “straw poll” that was the unsanctioned MI primary was only one of the measures.

The DNC and its conspirary to write-off the Clintons will be back-fired. The old saying ” the enemy of your enemy is your friend” rings the bell ? Mccain will have a dear friend to help him to the Oval office. Hillary supporters, it is time to think about what is and who is the best for your country not your party.

Someone who can affliate himself to anti-Jewish, anti-American can still be our Presidential nominee! What kind of country is this! The so called presumptive nominee of the Democratic party has had diffuculty in winning over the past two months and getting swept by HRC with blowout margins in some states. Are the DNC/Supers stupid? Are they brain washed with Koolaid? I will hold my vote and vote for JM with the other 18 family mebers. Anyone but BO. The guy is arrogant and phony. HRC praises BO at one of the debates and says ” It is an honor, an absolute honor, to be with BO on stage tonight” and how does he respond….”You are likeable enough Hillary”. Does that make you cringe the woman in you? Did you see the snub after NH in the Senate, as he saw her out of the corner of the eye as she was moving towards him? What a crock! “I have visited all 57 states” What areal crock. The man does not even know how many states we have? And you call Bush stupid for saying no 4$ gas? Stupid indeed, but, this guy hits Dan Quayle and GWB out of the park.

Hillary got beaten by the twisted media and its application in support of caucus contests which proved to be the only way that Obama could get positioning, but holding contests that operate in disfavor of the elderly and the working class, because not everybody can get there and are willing to be subjected to Obama’s team’s harassment. However, even the media could not suppress the silent majority that voted in favor of Hillary. Obama has to be embarrassed that he is the second choice behind the majority of Democratic voters.

Obama, second choice.
Still better than an over-the-hill third choice whose memory is failing him, and who long ago sold out his maverick credentials to win the support of the racist, homophopic, xenophopic, lunatic, MISOGYNIST Republican right-wing.
Remember, it was McCain, not Obama who who laughed when one of his supporters called Clinton a B*tch.
As in:
McCain supporter: “How do we get rid of this B*tch?”(to loud laughter).
McCain: (laughs) “That’s, uuhh, now THAT’s a good questions.” (even louder laughter.
McCain and his supporters are no friends of Clinton – They think calling her a B*tch is a big laugh!

@λόγος: nice comments this evening.
I thought Senator Clinton gave a very good speech tonight. McCain made some interesting points but, c’mon, he’s not fooling most people. His campaign has got to work on these small venue things that seem less orchestrated than high school musicals. And his sarcastic smile is creeping me out.
Obama’s speech was better than his usual in that he gave some substance with the fluff. If he debates like he orates then McCain won’t have a chance. The VP choices are going to be huge for both candidates.

Posted by: MIguy | June 3, 2008, 11:13 pm 11:13 pm

To Guardian, the choice is clearly defined: Four year under a new communist regime or four year under another same old Rep. Pick your poison.

Posted by: mtr2311 | June 3, 2008, 11:17 pm 11:17 pm

Nice try, Guardian, McCain said similar junk too. It’s the usual ‘cop on every corner’ statement that politicians come up with in an election cycle.
I liked McCain’s double-speak on spending, when the biggest problem we have with spending is the war. And any ideas on fixing “entitlements” like Medicare and Social Security? Well with language like that, my guess is he’d rather axe them completely to pay for the war. And health care? He has no solution that won’t continue to drive up costs and soaring premiums.
Look, I’m not delusional about Obama. But I can’t stand Bush/Cheney and I am not ready to believe McCain will change the junk they’ve started.

I wouldn’t make too much of Obama’s lack of experience.
Bush presumably had more, look where that got us.
Nixon certainly had more, where did that get us?
Cheney, the man who has actually been running our foreign policy, had more experience than just about anyone in Washington.
His management of U.S. foreign policy has been an UNQUALIFIED disaster.
Maybe its time we choose someone with a little LESS experience – but the right ideas, and the right TEAM behind him to implement these ideas.

@Debra: His speech was same theme as Clinton and McCain’s, not sure why you were nauseated unless it was because it was the third go-around. Obviously you don’t care for him.
The 18 million supporters for Clinton is a great accomplishment. But the math goes something like: 1/3 of the 18 million say they won’t vote for Obama, leaving 6 million. There’s a usual 50% apathy leaving 3 million. Of those, many will vote third party or write in Clinton. Some, like you, won’t vote Obama even if she is VP. So, it seems that if people are like you, then you think it is pointless to offer her the VP spot?

========================================
No idea. I listened to some of what Senator Levin has to say on the timing question at the Saturday RBC meeting.
I thought his arguments were good, but then I’m from Michigan and don’t expect to move to Iowa or New Hampshire any time soon.
Clearly, the DNC is in a bind. The only penalty it can impose on any state that chooses to move up its primary is disqualification or some version thereof.
But imposing that penalty runs the risk of alienating potential voters from that state in the General Election – as is now happening.;-(
What to do? I have no idea.

The idea of a redo for FL and MI was shot down by the Obama campaign. There was even money , privately offered, to pay for a new primary. Obama camp wouldn’t agree to it because it was obvious he would lose. And he obviously knew the dnc would hand him some delegates, unearned I might add. This whole night would have played out differently for sure. Now who’s the cheater, liar and phony fake politician…same same same… and the dnc is too stupid to see the republican stratedgy at work by moving up their primaries. She has an obligation to evaluate taking the case to convention. Obama-Puppet-Maker Ted Kennedy with far more delegates to catch up. Obama-campaign ran a terribly negative message, and a lot of subtle trashing of the other side. He has a lot of fixing to do before I would change my mind and leave Hillary Clinton. You stand up to a bully, if anyone can, she can.

Posted by: Sylvia Johnsen | June 4, 2008, 12:46 pm 12:46 pm

Sen Clinton may haave received 18 million votes, but she would not make a good V.P. She campaigned because she was sure she would be the winner. I have followed this democratic campaign for a year. She has become increasingly tenacious, overly aggressive and vindicative on her views. I’ve noticed she becomes easily irritated and watched the interviews with Russert and O’Reilly when they took issue with her on her positions. She has a volatile temper and makes comments that are not necessary and complimentary. Likewise, Pres. Clinton does the same thing. How could you trust and be comfortable with someone who has these qualities?

Posted by: Yvonne K. | June 4, 2008, 12:49 pm 12:49 pm

What a shameful election results that the self-proclaimed winner of nomination was ended with landslide losses after losses. Those losses are of one person one vote; not those rigged up things like caucus.
You would see BO losing in the majority of all states. Without the help of the party pundits bending rules and making up new ones, BO stands no chances in winning the general election.
Hillary takes a vacation and let the dogs start their dogfights headed by the BO lunatics.

Posted by: John_Lai | June 4, 2008, 9:08 pm 9:08 pm

Hey, its a good thing we all have one vote. People need to forget the personal divisive campaign and think about which person, BO or JM is endorsing the policies they care most about. Obviously, HC and BO had very little difference in their campaign platforms. Therefore, the whole campaign turned personal (and divisive) just for that reason. Think about it.
