The Obama Anti-Smear Website

Some commentators have noted that on Sen. Barack Obama’s new website he set up to combat untrue internet rumors the "TRUTH" Obama proclaims on the homepage about the innuendo that somewhere there’s a tape of Michelle Obama using the word "whitey" is merely that "No such tape exists."

But actually if you read the whole entry the pushback is stronger than that. "Truth: No such tape exists. Michelle Obama has not spoken from the pulpit at Trinity and has not used that word," it says.

The campaign has even posted a copy of Obama’s birth certificate to disprove a whole host of rumors that some apparently feel no compunction about sharing.

(This fits in with a theory we’ve discussed on this blog before — that some Republicans seem to feel that the only way they can win this election is by sliming Obama with unfounded innuendo and personal attacks, instead of the ideas, experience, and proposals put forward by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. I do not share that view. In a relatively clean campaign, I think either candidate could win.)

**

For Good Morning America this morning we interviewed Drew Westen, author of "The Political Brain: The Role of Emotion in Deciding the Fate of the Nation" and a professor of psychology and psychiatry at Emory University.

Watch it HERE.

Westen thinks Obama’s website is a "great idea" — but he thinks it’s coming a bit late in the game.

"I would have gone after them (the rumors) the day they first showed up on the internet," Westen told us.

Initially Obama didn’t want to deign to respond to the rumors, thinking he would only be giving them credibility and a wider platform.

"That is one of the biggest fallacies in politics that people have had for many years," Westen said, "that if you respond to an attack is somehow your dignifying it. The reality is that if you don’t respond to an attack just from the point of view of how our brains work. What you’re allowing the other side to do is to shape the associations people have to your candidates in their mind, shape the ideas they gradually form. If you don’t offer any counter association, they come to believe those things. And those things will stick."

Westen’s study is of the neuropsychology of the brain, and he says the way we’re wired, initial impressions mean a great deal — even if those impressions are false.

"We consciously process information all the time and so when people first hear this information if they don’t hear something counter to it, they might think it is credible," Westen said. "They might not they will at least nod along and listen. It does however start to make those impressions subconsciously, people start to form what is called network association interconnected thoughts, images or ideas and feelings about the candidates. Even though three months later you might come back and learn that it’s not true, those associations have been well formed. We process information both consciously and unconsciously in fact different parts of the brain are involved."

"Ideally what you don’t want to happen is you don’t want to have even a day between the time the other side makes a charge about you, the pundits discuss it, and then you respond.  You want to make sure you telescope that process into no more than an hour or two hours max…James Carville once said that ‘it’s hard for the other guy to talk trash about you when you’ve got your fist in their mouth.’… I think that is probably a good way of saying the same thing."

You may recall McCain combated some ugly and untrue rumors during his South Carolina primary campaign eight years ago. I wonder how he would have fared if he’d dealt with them differently?

All I can say is I hope your readers…that like to push these stupid rumors will think hard about trying to win an election for this country by using more lies.
and maybe just maybe take a hard look at what they have been trying to base their vote on. Unsubstantiated issues that have no basis in fact all the while the economy is crumbling on the backs of GW’s economic policies, and people are reporting (Richard Engel saying this mornign the bigger reason for the decrease in violence is because they know there is a change coming…it is the surge that quelled some violence but it is the threat of us leaving that is making them join up with the Americans) and
that McCain will drive us into the ground and make our reputation and our safety worse than it is now.
Get off the lies. Get on with raising this country back up.

I am really getting tired of all these people who have nothing better to do but spread rumours on the internet, There are many who think just because it is on the internet it ‘Must” be true, Wake up folks , you cant believe just anything that is on the internet unless it comes from a reputable news source. Dont you people think if Obama was all that the internet says he is , that number one he would not be a senator and number two, the goverment would have never allowed him to run for president.Use your brains.

Also, the website fails to mention what was revealed in Karen Tumulty’s Time piece yesterday — the Obama campaign was hearing about the tape in April, well before Limbaugh or Larry Johnson talked about it openly. And the Obama campaign took it seriously enough to grill her twice about it. So what did they hear, and when, and from whom?
I always thought the birth certificate thing was bogus; the tape, not so sure.

their are soldiers and children and women and poor people and middle class families and …
a world that is being damaged by your dumb slanderous rhetoric.
You are choosing the same path that got us George W. Bush… no facts all slanderous spin.

“Truth: No such tape exists. Michelle Obama has not spoken from the pulpit at Trinity and has not used that word,”
so you want to twist this in the way that Bush won the presidency in the first place…
that Michelle Obama gave a speech somewhere where she didn’t use the word whitey…but something else happened…
You are …ugh… America won’t be fooled by people who are showing really the worst side of being human.

It would be helpful if the media could explore Obama’s ties to Alexi Giannoulias, now the IL state treasurer. Googling his name reveals lots of allegations and innuendos, and he really does owe his political career to Obama.

not this time… rumor an innuendo will not win the republicans another Bush win like it did in 2000 and 2004.
The lies stop here…
Too many lives and our country sinking…
our standing getting worse
the truth about why Iraqiis are joining up with America’s side (because they know obama has promised a change in policy and their is a change coming…go look at Engel’s interview this morning)
we are getting less safe
our healthcare is getting worse and worse which is going to make our social security problems worse and worse
every issue Mccain is wrong on now…
and what are you all trying to do…
dis the experts and throw out slander about Obama.

Personal websites may not be accurate. What’s in a person’s heart will always be secret. We can formulate ideas from their lifetime body of works, but we will never know what they really think and believe. The best we can do, is to choose leaders, who have a history of honorable service to the country.

The movie, “The Great Escape” was based on a true story. The premise was that a bunch of POW’s would escape and create havoc along enemy lines to tie up the opposition.
Apparently, geevil is an escaped POW and you ALL are getting baited right into it.

Texas Democrat
I agree
The guy who got offered some of the best opportunities in the country turning them down to help factory workers.
The guy who faced criticism head on and did not shy away from America’sd biggest internal chasm…race and racial tension on both sides.
The guy who running for office got up when the Dixie XChicks and other young pols were being trashed for standing up as turncoats and said the war was wrong.
the guy who wasn’t born with a silver spoon (remember McCain is a great individual hero but still a silver spoon military elite kid whose dad got him into schools…and like Lieutenant Dan from Forest Gump and his generations of family meaning coming from the fight…was noble in his personal battle but probably does not have the same viewpoint as lower income people who joined the military out of necessity and for the cause…
his touch stone being generations of meaning coming from being military fighters and viewing the world through that scope…not military grunts…but military elite)
He was a great war hero… but that does not mean he is a great settler of political discourse in Iraq…because it is not the military issue that is the problem now…it is the political one.

Why is it called hostility if I say it, but not when you spew on about a non existing tape. The web site you reference is blank.

What is very sad about this rumor mill is that A LOT of these rumors were started by DEMOCRATS.
For example, the person who started the “Michelle Obama ‘whitey’ tape” smear was no other than Larry Johnson who is an ex-CIA agent, a Democrat, and a Hillary supporter. It was started on his website.
Disgusting that it was started from a fellow Democrat.

so im assuming your voting for obama then because obama has been such a hard working man, having put himself through school, just recently paying off those student loans, is world traveled, and has written two books dealing with some of the most profound problems in our american history.
He has worked tirelessly for the people of Illinois, and is fighting now for all americans and turning america back into the country it should be, the country that leads the world instead of pushes it through fear and empty promises.
Mccain may be a war hero, but he has rolled back on all his principles that he had set for himself throughout his career and most importantly how he was seen in the 2000 election… now he has succumb to the clutches of hte republicans and he embraces bush and his directions, as well as his contempt and utter disgusting treatment of the constitution.
good for you texas!
obama!

geevil if you sense any anger it comes from people not wanting to play a game that got us George Bush.
There is no tape…wopuld you like to see a tape of a fashion show with Michelle?
would you like to see her lecturing on the law and how it pertains to lower income families and their healthcare?
would you like to see the tape of ehr talking about her girls and how much this election is about them?
what tape are you refering to…
she has tons of tapes… all would make America realize how pweople like you have done her and the country a horrible disservice.
stop throwing out wink wink and nudge nudge bologne…to try and take people’s eyes off the economy the war healthcare the world’s view of us sinking the housing crisis…etc the list goes on
all because McCain loses on all of those.

The website is a good idea to counter the typical GOP smears. But it has come a little late. In the future any Democratic nominee for president would be well-advised to set up such a site right at the beginning. The GOP has nothing going for them so they will move into their default position: personally smearing Obama, calling him a tax and spend liberal, and a weakling on national security. Are there still people who buy this usual load of Repub. BS which has gutted our country?

I refuse to listen to lies and innuendo any longer, from supporters of either side. Both McCain and Obama are good people, subjecting themselves to this horrid process in the hopes of doing good for their country. I may not agree with McCain’s policies, but I refuse to join into this “win at any cost” process. Join me if you care.

Maybe it’s because I’m really cynical, but I am a bit confused? Who cares what Michelle said? I didn’t know that she was running for office. And even if she were – once again, who cares?
Look… politicians – all of them – are two-faced liars. *Most* (if not all) of them are criminals in the purest sense of the definition. The fact is, although some may disagree, they are all human and have faults.
The only politicain that really concerns me is the one who is squeaky-clean. That just means he knows how to hide his tracks very well – and that would be a scary person to have as president.

Posted by: louielouie | June 13, 2008, 10:45 am 10:45 am

Its an unfortunate part of the business that all of the candidates must fight the rumors and outright lies about them as a result of running for office. McCain was accused of fathering a black baby back in 2000 and we all remember the swift-boating of Kerry. That this type of thing is necessary is the sad part but I’m glad that Obama is being proactive. The Democrats allowed the swiftboating to sand bag them in the past. I guess they won’t sit back and take it this cycle.

I don’t understand why people are so focused on Michelle Obama. She is not running for president, so why should we care what she does. We should be focusing our attention on McCain and Mr. Obama. And it seems that everyone is trying to push their political views on everyone else. People should do their own research and come up with their own views and ideas of who they want to vote for. May the best man win.

I totall agree with you, John McCain is the only logical choice for President.
I am also excited that there are now over 50 sites and organizations of ex-hillary supporters throwing their support to John McCain.

Does Obama’s smear site correct the untruths that his parents met at Selma and the Kennedy’s airlifted his father to the USA? I’m guessing not, since those are lies Obama propagated himself.
The obvious problem with this anti-smear web site is that we’ve only got Obama’s word that the information is or isn’t true. He’s already proven his word is worthless because he’ll tell each person what he has to in order to get their vote.

Maggie, I “dare to defend” Michelle Obama from comments that call her “baby mama” the same way I would defend you or anyone from that type of slur. “Baby mama” means unmarried girlfriend who has a baby with her boyfriend. That is untrue and insulting in our society.
Obama has shown great courage in discussing racial issues that still exist in our country. We have all been cowardly in acknowledging that we still have progress to make in how we view each other. You can see it here, how people are actually afraid of Obama because his church is different, his name is different, his skin is a different color.
I’m sure “typical white” is a comment he wishes he had used better wording for, but the message was true. He was talking about his grandmother, and her views. Many white people do cross the street when a black man approaches. My inlaws used the “n” word, even though they were wonderful people in every other way. I had to explain to my children that people who grow up in different neighborhoods have different ideas, some wrong, some right, but all based on how they were raised. We felt the “n” word was evil, but their grandparents were not evil.
We have to continue to work as a society to accept each other, not view each other with suspicion. Our country became great because of our differences, not in spite of them.

And people are also focusing on his religion. That is irrelivent. What ever happened to seperation of church and state. Instead of focusing on what religion they are or what they want to do about gay marrage, try focusing on what they want to do about the economy, the war, etc.

I think this might turn out to be a mistake on Obama’s part unless he is positive that no tape exists of Michelle ever speaking from the pulpitt of the church. I don’t believe the rumors and never have, but to categorically deny them might be a bit of arrogance on Obama’s part.
In terms of tapes, I would place a high wager on some sort of tape being revealed by the RNC before november– one that will not make Obama look very good…I will not count out the possibility that someone is sitting on a “Whitey” tape and that it leaked, but for the most part, we will just have to wait and see.

Just goes to show how dirty and corrupt this so-called “democratic” election is.
Of course, hardly anyone examines the mafia-syndicate-esque mass MEDIA and the puppet-masters behind it who control a mind/perception shaping apparatus that can make or break any polititian.
The American public is being dumbed-downed, miseducated, mislead, robbed and outright lied to by the ruling classes.
This presidential election is being orchestrated by the politically powerful, the big-monied insiders, and the Media Manipulators – not your and my vote.
It’s mostly a dog & pony circus show to make the citizen think he’s calling the shots.
I think Sen. Obama has already been tapped to win this election to fulfill the agenda of the real power brokers of the Western world.
However, McCain would be just as useful if an alternate is needed.

No Matter what, you can not divulge from the fact that Barrack Obama is half white ( his mother is white woman from Wichita Kansas ). I am not sure based on what scientific logic ( genetically speaking ), he is called as only African American , why not lets say Afro Caucasian or mixed race or just simply American- which he is . We don’t hear in the states anyone calling a Caucasian , like German American Swedish American , Anglo American , how about calling a Henry Kissinger a Jewish German Immigrant -naturalized American? or Former Secretary of State Madelline Albright a Confused Jewish catholic Immigrant Czechoslovakian American ? No you all will not do so , cause they are white
Levelling people of other race with racial or original country heritage is nothing more than dissecting the non whites Americans, into several different categories more like creating a division within American , it’s like white vs the other Americans . A very condescending approach taken by Media and some establishment . In the long run it’s detrimental for American racial harmony , demography speaks for itself in today’s multi cultural society , whether some white folks likes it or not, that is the fact. Going back to the original debate, the fact is that Obama is half white and so he does represent the white community , If his mom is white he has to has soft corner for white folks- that’s simple logic for arguments sake . Try calling a Spade a Spade , his not a pure African American and that is the real fact .
The idea should not be race as issue here , but the individual’s quality & character and his/her ability to lead USA .
Only Real Americans are the native American Indians & we all know know that, the rest are immigrants or their Children of the next Generation . Remember many of you came decendets of the Poor Europeans struggling to make living in last three centuries , some even very recently , so don’t make white as Symbol of Americanism .
It’s the spirit , the freedom and aspiration of being a proud American that makes a American , not your color or religion or race or anything else for that matter.

I am going to be really “white” here. So I am sorry if this offends. But, this double standard is sickening. I freely admit that because of my background, my culture and even my color, some of my thoughts, actions and prejudices have been guided in the wrong way. I am not proud of it and I desire to always grow to be a better person.
I have no doubt that Senator McCain has the same struggles. I believe acknowledging this is the first step to actually becoming a better person. The double standard is that Senator Obama and his supporters refuse to admit and see that a black person is not immune to the same issues of prejudice. If my pastor for 30 years spewed the kind of political speach we have seen, EVEN ONCE, then I would have met with him and sought an apology and left if there was no real CHANGE. To believe that a black person has a “correct and unprejudiced view” of me, a “privileged white”, with their backgrounds and their obvious relationships is simply oblivious of the truth. The prejudices of Senator Obama are reflected in his statements about rural small towns and his associations. I am sure his statments are supported by unfortunate truths he has personally observed. AS ARE MINE! But, tha is the problem with the root of all prejudices. Put that on the truth website. Admit your own prejudices and we can begin to get through this problem.

Aren’t they both running for president? Don;t you want to know of what faith Mc Cain is? My thing is, if you people are going to dig and question everything about Obama;s life, why not do the same for Mc Cain. Frankly, all i know about Mc Cain was that he is some War Hero. I don;t know his faith, I don;t know when he goes on vacation. I don;t know what he did in his past. I don;t know what is habits are. I know for sure he can;t read a written speech without making a mistake. Why does he always look so unsure of himself when he is infront of an audience?

John, you have not even looked at the blog this article is talking about. Here’s what Obama really said in his book, not the four words you cite.
FULL QUOTE From Audacity of Hope:
“Whenever I appear before immigrant audiences, I can count on some good-natured ribbing from my staff after my speech; according to them, my remarks always follow a three-part structure: “I am your friend,” “[Fill in the home country] has been a cradle of civilization,” and “You embody the American dream.” They’re right, my message is simple, for what I’ve come to understand is that my mere presence before these newly minted Americans serves notice that they matter, that they are voters critical to my success and full-fledged citizens deserving of respect.
“Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” [Page 260-261]

The fact that people are all flared up is cause Barrack Obama inspired millions into getting interested in politics and election process . People are afraid of change , terrorism , war and economic slump . And many republicans love using the fear mongering (demonise the others or opponents ) technique . It’s dynamic world , and will keep changing as history shows , Americans need to be realist and not vote people – who may not be best candidate , out fear & apprehension about future . Change we do need in American , failing to adapt in fast changing world is not smart move

Is it a smear if it is true? i don’t believe the video is fromthe pulpit of “Trinity”.
In the parsed words of misspeak that Mr obama is fluent in, this could mean she spoke from anywhere elese at Trintity or somewhere else. i believe the remarks were actually made at a conference on reparations for slavery, not at Trinity.
She said them. The GOP will release the tape in Oct. People can make up their own minds.
People who support Obama blindly will scream from the rooftops that she didn’t say whitely. That doesn’t matter what matters is what people who are undecided think she said.
Is it important absolutely. Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry all got within a couple points of 95% of the black vote. That doesn’t win a general election.
It’s important and its not a smear if its true.

Dem38, healthcare must be offered by employers and share the cost”
I am an employer and I pay for my employees healthcare but I do not know how much longer I can afford to do that. A lot of companies cannot afford to do that period, they will go out of business. The big companies will simply increas what they charge for their products if they can, but with global competition that probly wont work and they will just lay off employees. Your statment sound so sensible and easy but you need to understand ALL that is involved in what you want.

Why is this so important to Obama. Also, how is increasing the payroll tax on 3% of wage earners (‘Obama: Payroll tax on income…’ by Charles Babington AP 6/13/08) going to help the economy?

The New Obama website onsmesr is a fraud. It attempts to shout out the truth with broad generalisations that are clearly refuted by excellent journalism.
Fo example, the new Obama makes the false claimthat: Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian.
But that calim does not refute the published reports quoting Obama’s closest friends that give eye witness accounts of Obama worshiping at a mosque on Fridays in Djakarta. Worshiping at a mosque on Fridays is practicing Islam.
What is Obama hiding. We know that Obama has claimed he has always been a Christian, yet Paul Watson of the L.A. Times Djakarta Bureau published an investigative report replete with numerous accounts that Obama worshiped in mosques and Islamic prayer rooms while he lived in Indonesia. Read the never refuted Watson report for yourselves styled: “Islam an unknown factor in Obama bid,” which can be found at:
Here is but one paragraph of the Watson report that has never been specifically refuted by Barack Obama or his campaign:
The childhood friends say Obama sometimes went to Friday prayers at the local mosque. “We prayed but not really seriously, just following actions done by older people in the mosque. But as kids, we loved to meet our friends and went to the mosque together and played,” said Zulfin Adi, who describes himself as among Obama’s closest childhood friends.
According to the SWAMP, the Chicago Tribune’s political bog of December 22, 2007, Barrack Obama specifically denied EVER practicing Islam. Obama stated: “I’ve always been a Christian” and “I have never practiced [Islam].” This raise the question: Is Barack Obama an Impostor? Did Obama’s answers to direct questions obfuscate the truth? Was Obama deliberately lying to gain the highest office of the land by blatant misrepresentations of material facts that his campaign considers so important that it has dedicated a good portion of its website to support the claim that: ” Obama Has Never Been A Muslim, And Is a Committed Christian.”
The Obama campaign website makes the unsubstantiated claim: “Barack Obama Is Not and Has Never Been a Muslim. Obama never prayed in a mosque. He has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian who attends the United Church of Christ.” Did Paul Watson fabricate a story about Obama’s Muslim prayers at a Djakarta mosque? Were the quotations form the Los Angeles Times report of march 16, 2007, which can be accessed on the Obama website by a hyper-link false? Was the account of one of Obama’s closest friend in Djakarta an utter falsehood, which hoodwinked Watson to write: “The childhood friends say Obama sometimes went to Friday prayers at the local mosque. ‘We prayed but not really seriously, just following actions done by older people in the mosque. But as kids, we loved to meet our friends and went to the mosque together and played,’ said Zulfin Adi, who describes himself as among Obama’s closest childhood friends.” What motive to fabricate such basic historical facts did Zulfin Adi and /or Watson have at the time the report was published? I submit none whatsoever.
This is a fundamental question of personal integrity of Obama, not an anti-Muslim attack on a political candidate. Why has the news media missed the big question of whether Obama may have deliberately lied about his past practice of Islam to secure the Democratic nomination.

Posted by: HoosierSue | June 13, 2008, 2:21 pm 2:21 pm

McCain doesn’t need a website to deflect or refute any rumors spreading about him because no one cares about him, that’s why. No one thinks he can win so there is no need to try to tear him down. He’s doing a fine job of that all by himself!! The Republicans tried to do it to him (their own kind) back in 2000 when he had the “nerve” to challenge Bush for the nomination. You sickos have a right to your free speech and vicious personal attacks on Obama’s reputation, and Obama has a right to defend himself from those attacks, and well he should. Why should he let you losers make up these ridiculous accusations and not attempt to refute them? Then you say, “the rumors must be true or he would have said something…” Well, he is saying something against all the rumors, so just keep them coming, even though you are wasting your time and acting like petty, frightened creeps, which you are anyway.

‘I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.’
FACT

Okay, I could care less if our next President were purple, gay, a midget, extremely furry whatever….I certainly do not care what their religion is, as long as it does not dominate the scene while they are President. On the other hand, what in the hell were the DNC people thinking? We have lost two elections in a row and they bring in a person that has a Muslim sounding name, a Muslim dad and a possible Muslim upbringing as our New Nominee in a post 9/11 prejudiced world. Half of the people in this country went for BUSH (Not me) after 9/11 and negative views rose against the Muslim religion world wide. Even France, the last hold out finally turned against the Muslim religion. Although the world understands there are extremists, a prejudice has developed and Barack Obama practically symbolizes (culturally) what most are prejudiced against, even though he is not a Muslim. So, what was the plan here? To force all those who are prejudiced to not be? To vote against all of their views? Are the top DNC people major risk taking gamblers? I mean really…and yet they act surprised that people are racist or prejudiced. I have stopped being shocked about prejudice. However, the shock of my life was seeing how sexist DEMS would be to elect their man; I’ll never forget what I witnessed from our own. It’s hard to believe these leaders have had a higher quality education than most of us.

This is not smear. It is only records done by concerned journalists. Unless Obama makes public of his senate records, there is no reason why we should believe in otherwise.

What does being a POW have to do with running the country. Are POW’s now political experts?
McCain graduated in the bottom 1% of his class(795/800). He had to take remedial flight school and got shot down on his forst mission. This makes him qualified to be President?
He dumped his wife (who waited for him while he was a POW) when she got ill so he could marry a rich, younger drug addict. This makes him a “hero”?
He claims he knows little about economics. His foreign policy history is filled with poor judgement:
“There’s not a history of clashes that are violent between Sunnis and Shiahs. So I think they can probably get along.” [MSNBC, 4/23/03]
“Because I believe that the success will be fairly easy,” [CNN, 9/24/02]
“We’re not going to get into house-to-house fighting in Baghdad.” [CNN, 9/29/02]
“But the point is that, one, we will win this conflict. We will win it easily.” [MSNBC, 1/22/03]
“But I believe that the Iraqi people will greet us as liberators.” [NBC, 3/20/03]

George W Bush was “elected” (even though the actual vote count went to Al Gore). And yes… had it been the other way around, with Gore achieving the electoral college but not the popular vote, I would have said Bush was the clear winner because it would have represented the will of the majority of the people. But that isn’t what happened. And John Kerry was useless.
George W Bush did not have the experience to lead and grabbed the election by political technicality so he could promote influence and power amongst his friends and business associates.
Obama has already proven to be a leader. He inspires people to action. He has gotten some of our apathetic masses interested in participating in their government, whether for or against him.
Republicans didn’t seem to care, when voting for Bush, that he hadn’t served his military time, snorted cocaine, was an alcoholic, and didn’t really hold a real job until Bush Sr. asked Reagan to give him one (which Reagan did very reluctantly). In Texas, GW Bush had one of the worst environmental records of any Governor in the US. He couldn’t even complete a sentence without a teleprompter and still cannot. But because he was the Republican candidate you voted for him. He lied outright about the cause for war and you still supported him. Now look where we are. You called liberals “loonies” (as in lunatics). Well, lunacy can be defined as the willingness to repeatedly use the same approach while expecting different results.
Obama has experience as a State Senator and as a National Senator. He clearly understands his role in government, orates well from a position of knowlege, and is the only nominated Presidential candidate in US history to be a different race, thus defining him as the only candidate who can speak from a position of diversity.
McCain is also a well-tested candidate though his party has only nominated him because they need someone slightly liberal to get the ‘big win’.
As far as Black animosity (Obama’s church) is concerned, not ONE of us caucasions can possibly understand what it is to be black in America; to have been brought to this country as hostages or be killed in the genocide of the slave ships’ Middle Passage losses, forced to work for their (white Christian) tormenters, to be denied the right to vote, and to be denied the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as stated in our Founding Fathers’ most precious works. To have come through all of that as a people, and still believe in an inherent good in the American way of life, is simply remarkable.
Obama is not Muslim. He lived in a muslim country and may have had a Muslim father but he chose Christianity. Whether it is a version of Christianity that is more focused on the Black experience rather than the European Caucasion experience is part of the blessing of freedom of religion in America. By virtue of his associations, Obama can promote diversity and cross-cultural understanding in a way no other candidate can.
But We The People will probably elect another white conservative.
Conservatives have given us eight years of lies, deceit, fear-mongering, infighting, backstabbing, smear campaigns against war heroes and proven patriots (simply for disagreeing with Bush), insane run-amok spending, and lack of accountability. They have subverted the checks and balances that our Founding Fathers were so careful to include in the backbone of US law and have lied their way into a war that the rest of the world doesn’t support.
Vote for the millionaire liar of your choice. I’m going to take a man of diversity with 21st century ideas instead of re-electing the old guard. Both candidates are good men but I want someone who represents the future, not the past. Tow the party line if you must. I’m trying something different. If it doesn’t work out, I’m sure there will be another Republican candidate in 2012.
Incidentally, whomever wins, I somewhat hope that the opposite party wins the House and Senate. Some of the best works of US government have taken place with an executive branch from one party and a legislative branch from another. Depending, of course, on whether all politicians are working for all of America… or only working for the America of their campaign’s highest donors.

He is unable to talk in-depth about any of his so-called policies that he actualy stole from Hillary’s briliant ideas as proven at the 4 debates he had with her. Besides, Obama & his wife were afforded the luxury of 230 points added to their SAT in order for african-american to get into an Ivy League school. It pretty much points out that they must be too dumb that they need to be given the extra 230 points before they can even take the SAT!!
Ben Stein was on Kimmel las year promoting his new book. Stein knows how to make a dollar or several million. Kimmel asked Stein if Obama should read his book. Stein said no, he should start with something more suited to his education level on the economy like simple addition and subtraction.
Obama took private lessons in economy just last year but apparently without great success according to his teacher:. He said Obama was slow on the uptake
With Obama’s nomination, who is totally inexpert, amateurish, inadequate and unqualified for the job as President, Democrats have sealed their ultimate defeat. With Hillary’s nomination they may have perhaps had a little chance of winning the GE: they gambled it away. From now on they are doomed.

Perhaps, WE THE PEOPLE, need to establish a web site that will debunk all the lies and distortion that Senator Obama, his campaign and supporters have perpetrated thoughout the enternet and MSN. Just a thought.
LIES AND DISTORTIONS, LIES AND DISTORTIONS, BOGUS PROMISES AND MORE LIES. THAT HAS BEEN OB’S CAMPAIGN. He has no real solutions in domestic or foreign matters. Just more cheap.

Eric,
THE REASON WHY OBAMAS AND THEIR FOLLOWERES HATE THE CLINTONS IS THAT THEY’RE EXTREMELY SO JEALOUS OF THE CLINTONS, THE ONLY POLITICIANS WHO MANAGED WITH UTMOST INTELLIGENCE TO GET ALL AMERICANS SOME DECENT LIVING – JOB SECURITY, AFFORDABLE FOOD, HOUSING AND EDUCATION, AND WHO BROUGHT ABOUT TRUE PEACE AND PROPERITY IN THE 90′S AS I REMEMBER SO VIVIDLY. THEY ARE JEALOUS THAT IF THE CLINTONS GO BACK TO WHITE HOUSE, THEY’LL BE ABLE TO CLEAN UP THE BUSH MESS AGAIN AND CLINTON CLAN WILL MAKE HISTORY HAVING TO SERVER MORE THAN 8 YEARS PLU HAVING THE FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT…SOMETHING THE KENNEDY’S WOUL NOT LIKE TO HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE THAT WILL OVERSHADOW JFK WHO, IN COMPARISON WITH BILL CLINTON, IS NOT THAT SO CLEAN AFTER ALL WITH ALL THE MISTRESSES HE HAD HAD DURING HIS ADMINISTRATION.

Posted by: Crapola | June 13, 2008, 3:55 pm 3:55 pm

BRING TEH CLINTONS BACK TO WHITE HOUSE NOW!!!!
The Bill Clinton administration brought
the U.S. 22 million new jobs and the lowest unemployment since the 1960s. It was an unprecedented period of peace and prosperity. Alot of very bad stuff could have happened but didn’t because he just did the job well. It may take a little more time for folks to truly understand how extraordinarily well he did and how hard that job is. Hillary would have grown our economy with the new green industries, which equaled jobs, better environment and far less reliance on foreign energy. Neither one of these guys will do as well on the economy as Hillary would have.
obama,
Whatever promises and pledges you make about salvaging the economy, they will fall on deaf ears. Don”t you know why Senator Clinton earned 18 MILLION votes? Then I”ll be happy to fill you in. The economy was never so GREAT as when William Jefferson Clinton was in power.
When he was harrassed and stalked by that Stupid Bimbo, Monique what”s her face, Bill soldierded on, and the economy did not falter. That is what I call showing courage in the face of adversity. I was among millions of people, who wanted this POINTLESS WITCH HUNT of President Clinton to cease, and indeed, the American People did not suffer any ill effect from this senseless onslaught of Clinton, who continued fighting hard to keep the economy STRONG AND RESILLIENT.
Obama, look at yourself in the mirror. You possess neither the FLAIR, PANACHE, NOR THE WISDOM That Bill Clinton had, and you will ot be able to salvage the decrepid state of the American economy.
What this economy desperately needed was another CLINTON to salvage it. Now it will fall into the hands of Senator McCain, who is far more capable and qualified to salvage it than you are.
obama……dream on, and on and…….
Clinton didn”t salvage the economy with pinache, he salvaged it with sensible policy.
The same policies are needed now. We need to practice fiscal discipline by paying for programs as we go. Lowering the deficit will decrease the government footprint in the capital markets and help business and consumers.
We need to adopt tax policies which share the burden fairly and expect that those who benefit the most from society(the wealthy)are not given breaks which the rest of us have to pay for. We need to help those struggling to make ends meet by not adding to their burden.
We need to make wise investments to create jobs where they”re needed. 2/3 of all job growth since 2001 has been in health care and education. As the populations of retirees needing healthcare and school age children needing educational opportunities grows, it doesn”t take a rocket scientist to recognize where te investments need to be made to get America working again in jobs that can”t be outsourced. Republicans are not rocket scientists.
The Democrats support the policies which gave us peace and prosperity in the 1990s and those same policies will bring us back in the next decade.
The Clinton’s as far as I remember had the best economic record ever in the history of the United States. That’s not too bad, as far as the rest, the petty matters…? I’m not too concerned with them. Barack Obama is going to have serious problems without the Clintons. personally, I would advise Hillary to let B fall on his own. So that she can comeback and run again 2012. B could lose by a pretty wide margin if these “momentum stats” of the last half of the primaries continue to ring true. It reminds me very much when the democrats voted Joe Liebermann out and the people voted him back in again. There’s a possibility of this happening, even in the face of these overwhelming historic odds. What else would explain these incredibly close polling numbers? John McCain is in a statistical tie for the White House. This should not be. FDR blew his competition right out of the water. Why aren’t the stats reflecting the historic politikal in balance?

_____
Hillary DIDN’T lose!
They tried to force feed Obama to us, and Hillary was forced to the sidelines, BUT IT WAS HILLARY WHO WON THE POPULAR VOTE when Michigan was finally included in the tally!
It is remarkable that despite the pre-selection and push push of Obama by the DNC, Hillary achieved the success that she did….. especially after the media joined the fray and blacked out any positive Clinton news
After that, even the returns of the last primaries were kept from us starting just before Indiana.. .we had to go to BBC to how magnificently Hillary had scored on most of thos subsequent primaries!
Unfortunately though, in this democratic union the popular vote doesn’t count.
Besides, our votes, in the guise of supposedly open-minded delegates, went up for sale.
(Mark those delegates open minded, money hungry and biddable to the largest political pocketbook)!!
And look what we lost!
Access to the mind of a brilliant woman who has already brought health care to more than 16,000,000 of our children… and economic solutions which outshine all those left behind on the table.
Hillary’s ability to think as she speaks… clearly and sensibly without electronic assistance. Her voice might not sound as dulcet as some…. but it fills us with hope in the form of viable solutions!
The kind of change we can believe in!
And, as a bonus…:
We would have had input from Bill Clinton who despite his apparent impatience with the competitor’s smear tactics and the DNC’s preferential treatment to it’s baby BO, has proven himself to still in command of all of his thinking mechanisms….. the ones
which effected years of prosperity and content for us all.
And speaking of smear tactics…… BO’s supporters were the dirtiest and most provocative of any.
They had no scruples and have shown no remorse for the lies and hurt they’ve slung throughout the internet…. atopical crap which had no business being in an election between two grown-ups!
One of the worst was how they labeled the Clintons “racists”… when they have done and GIVEN more to minorities than Obama has every THOUGHT of doing!
Until Obama, no one ever questioned the friendship and affection of the Clintons for the blacks; in fact, aside from Warren Harding, Bill was jokingly referred to “our first black president”.
So why is the anti-smear campaign starting NOW… after they’ve done so much damage?
Of which of the many stories rounding the bend is B O most afraid?

“Baracks talk to the nation after he is elected”……………….
Baracks Bills -
1. 2006 Transparency bill = expose corrupt lobby $ that lobbyist give to politicians so we the people can either impeach them or not re-elect them………….
2. TECH PLAN = 2007 = http://www.USAspending.gov = expose all government spending so the citzens can see where their tax money goes ……………..
3. 2008 = SUNSHINE bill = SUNLIGHT FOUNDATION = http://www.sunlightfoundation.com/ = http://www.sunshineweek.org/sunshineweek/candidates = EXPOSE future spending. This is acomplished as Barack and his newly elected cabinet point out to WE THE PEOPLE , negative porkbarrel spending so we the people can rally against a certain senator or congress person or committee to stop it before it goes up for vote or support it if it is good for we the people = honest government finally controlled by WE THE PEOPLE. ………………Who knows maybe one day in the future we won’t need politicians as we the people stay involved in what is going on in all 3 branches of government and we use the computer to approve the direction of our country / government. …………………….
Barack will be holding weekly / monthly speeches, to WE THE PEOPLE, guiding them as to which negative earmark / porkbarrel spending should be stopped (removed from a future bill) by the people rallying together online before a bill with that earmark goes up for vote!
…………………………….
Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL)………….
Obama has outlined an ambitious transparency plan that incorporates technology to “help connect government to its citizens and engage citizens in a democracy.”………………
Among the proposals in Obama’s plan to open government are: putting government data online in accessible formats; airing live webcasts of agency meetings; restoring scientific integrity; allowing people to track federal grants, contracts, earmarks and lobbyist contacts online; and allowing five days for public to review and comment on legislation online before its signed………………..
In an October 2007 speech, Obama pledged to “turn the page on a growing empire of classified information, and restore the balance we’ve lost between the necessarily secret and the necessity of openness in a democratic society by creating a new National Declassification Center.”…………….
Past is Prologue…………
One of Obama’s most visible Senate actions on the open government front was his co-sponsorship of the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, which went into effect Jan. 1, 2008 with the launch of USAspending.gov, a Web site that gives people access to information on government contracts, grants and other awards……………….
As an Illinois state senator, Obama co-sponsored the Verbatim Record Bill, requiring public agencies to video or audio record closed door meetings, The First Amendment Center reported, noting the law was the first of its kind enacted by any state…………….
Obama is the only remaining candidate to have signed the Reason Foundation’s Oath of Presidential Transparency, and, according to The Washington Post he is the only leading candidate to have released his income tax returns………….

Barack’s campaign is offering up a “CERTIFICATION.” That’s different. A normal Certificate also includes:
1. No attending physician signature or license number
2. No address for the attending physician or hospital
3. No parent signature
4. No parent DOB or age of parent or parent place of birth.
5. Father’s race would not be “African”, that is country of origin. Race would be black or Negro (1960’s)
6. Was this a single birth or multiple birth.
7. No Registrars name or signature.

this election has given upportunity to people whose level of hate has passed a boiling point. i fear what we’re becoming.Obama’s sucess to some is such a challenge that its bringing out the beast in many.
most of these loosers just find it very difficult that a black man with a humble background can become so sucessful with very little upportunities.i think most of these hate mongerers are more from self pity then anger and finally develop to such hate to a frightening level. it just personal and has little to do with Obama or politics

Posted by: ED | June 14, 2008, 3:22 am 3:22 am

I now question Obama’s credibility of being a Magna Cum Laude from Harvard… HOW IN FACT DID HE EARN IT?… he can hardly debate sensibly on the spot without a prepared speech written by a paid speechwriter… he’s typically slow at impromptu speaking and most of the time he stutters and at the loss for words and he hardly uses or knows the right terminology like the difference between denounce and reject … evaded crunch-time debates with Hillary and now evading McCain’s a number of requested debates… evading public view of McCain-Obama debate by Obama himself selecting only one debate on the date that falls on a holiday which is July 4th when everyone is out vacationing… things like these do not make up an intellectual that has achieved higher if not the highest honor in the academe… not to mention the fact that as an adult he still practiced classroom-type of cheating like he plagiarized his speeches, bribed DNC delegates/superdelegates to seal his nomination, lied to the highest degrees… plus the fact that he as well as his wife had more black professors than whiteys and so on and so forth…And Besides, Obama & his wife were afforded the luxury of 230 points added to their SATs in order for an african-american to get into an Ivy League school. It pretty much points out that they must be too dumb that they need to be given the extra 230 points before they can even take the SAT!!

Sadly, it is not unexpected to see the poliferation of lies, smears and racist ignorance cluttering the internet. Racism is sadly alive and well in the “land of the free”. There are also forces that greatly fear the empowerment of We The People they are playing racist fears like a fiddle. This time around we won’t be counting “Jesus states” but “Bigot States”.
Though opponents of Senator Obama claim there is a wave of anti-Obama sentiment, I suggest you do not know about the tidal wave of pro-Obama support that is quickly growing across the country. There is a general acknowledgement that if McCain is elected this country is doomed economically and politically.
What a tragedy it would be if our future as a country was destroyed by a cadre of fearful bigots and immoral corporate avarice.

I think what Obama has succeeded in doing so far is to prompt America to show its true colours- underneath the “free counntry” disguise is a country full of white people who still think like they live in the 1600s. Some of us are just watching- will white people vote objectively or will they act uneducated and unrefined and vote on the basis of race. We are yet to see….
