Top Donors Debate Clinton’s Future

ABC News’ Kate Snow Reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton’s top money people are staying by her side, but not without some coaxing.

On a conference call late this afternoon with about 30 top donors, senior advisor Harold Ickes conceded that the likelihood of Clinton securing the nomination was growing more remote. But he emphatically argued to donors that the end was not here yet and that they should continue to support the Senator until she says to do otherwise.

Ickes indicated that Obama would not have the delegates needed to claim victory by Tuesday night.

But in a rapid fire question and answer session, some Clinton financial supporters questioned whether it was time to back Senator Barack Obama.

"When the time comes, we should all go over together," one key Washington fundraiser said on the call, according to another participant. Two other donors then voiced their agreement that it was time to support Obama. "No one wants to be the last one on the ship," the call participant told ABC News.

But those three donors were shouted down by others on the call who argued that Clinton still needed their support.

One option that was discussed on the financial donors conference call was for Clinton to "suspend" her campaign, rather than drop out. That would allow her to hold onto her delegates, should circumstances warrant her entering the race again at some point in the future.

Many donors on the call were pushing for a suspension of the campaign.

According to the participant on the call, Ickes told donors that he will recommend to the Senator that she not appeal the decision over the weekend of the Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee in seating delegates from Michigan and Florida.

Two participants who were on the call said they did not hear any discussion of the campaign’s debt, despite reports to the contrary.

Clinton will spend much of Tuesday behind closed doors at her home in Chappaqua, New York.

She plans to meet with top donors following a public appearance in New York tomorrow night.

Gotta love those rich pro war hawks that will do anything to prolong more death and destruction to civillians and our soldiers who should be protecting OUR borders. Hilliary and McCain: One and the same. Let’s kill everyone except those who actually threaten us, and get those others to hate us overseas TOO! And have poverty inducing health care back home. If you got a fixed income, big government health managers will be waiting for their cut. (Think HMO’s on steriods) “I hope you weren’t intending to eat this month. No matter, you could stand to lose a few more pounds. Get a second job at 45; Don’t you wanna help the economy!?!” Ahh, I feel better already…

We need a new party. The divide is too deep and painful to continue in the Democratic party. Obama used propaganda and sexism to brainwash the nation with the media’s help. We can’t let the country go down the toilet like this. I hope these big people have the courage to take this bold step, because millions of little people like me do.

What’s the point we have so much dishonest politics going on from the DNC. They give delegates to Obama without even a vote from one person in the State of Michigan. They have moved the bar to a lower number so that Obama can win. It has become more than obvious to everyone that they only want the black man—the woman should stay in her place. NBC has treated Ms. Clinton in the most disrespectful way that I could have ever imagine. I will never turn on NBC ever again. Yes Hillary got screwed and the woman of this country aren’t organized enough so woman will always be second hand everywhere.

Hillary should have quit a long time ago. Her advisers failed her, BIG TIME!!! Her campaign was poorly planned and they underestimated the opposition. That is not Obama’s fault and he should not have no give up a nomination he has earned by playing by the rules.
Hillary’s attempts toward the end of this campaign to “smear” the opposition all backfired… They may have helped turn out the vote of her uneducated/uninformed/ ignorant supporters, but i feel the rest of the public just got turned off of her. I know i did. Cry me a river Hillary… Boo Hoo!!!

Takeit to the Floor Hill. he’s unelectable and the DNC has become Robert Mugabe ignoring certified democratic elections and giving out delegates to the candidate they back.
Defend democracy! Stop this unelectable candidate from being nominated. Take it to Denver. You are the Dems only hope in Nov.

If Obama people really don’t believe Clinton supporters will defect to John McCain en mass, they will get a rude awakening come November 3rd.
My vote goes to the best candidate regardless of party and THAT IS NOT OBAMA.

There is nothing ABC news can do to stop Sen. Clinton from becoming President. About three years ago a well known televangelist, Perry Stone Jr., told his congregation that God spoke to him and said Sen. Clinton will be the next President. This information can be obtained from one of his published works on CD entitled “Strange Patterns of Recent American Presidents.” On track 7 of this CD, he tells us that Sen. Clinton will once again be in the White House. So give it up ABC News. And Barack, your days are numbered.

It’s pretty darn bad when your a senator and are put between a rock and a hard place when it comes for the war funding when you have a president that acts just like what he is a spoiled rich boy, if you vote no your a jack butt if you vote yes your a Bush or Mc Cain. When is the delegates and the super delegates going to realize this and i mean this country needs Hillary Clinton, no one else only Hillary.Mc Cain has a score to settle with vietnam,Obama is so inexperienced (Learn as you gopresident ) you can see the water dripping off his ear lobes.

Poor Hillary!!! Poor Donors!!!!
These clowns are out of the game. Actually, Obama bigwigs didn’t want Hillary’s clowns in his campaign. Obama donors were on board when the guy was a long shot for the nomination. Now that he is the nominee, his donors don’t want to share the “prize.” Sorry to Hillary’s clowns, but they picked the wrong horse, now suck it.

There sure are a lot of Republican trolls around, masquerading as HRC supporters. Only a genuine idiot would support Senator Clinton, and then vote for McBush, who opposes everything she believes in.
But then, there are some people out there with very small…er… brains. If they don’t get everything they want, when they want it, they get all spiteful and venemous and do really idiotic things that are contrary to their own self-interest.
I would like Sen. Clinton to be the nominee, but if she isn’t, I’ll act like an adult and vote for the candidate whose platform is close to hers.
Trolls, half-wit bigots, and those with
more bitterness than rational capacity will do what they will do.

To The Superdelegates:
The black pro-self-rule and Third World Nationalists are running the Democratic Party they are acting that like they are in Zimbabwe not America. The Democratic Party over the weekend showed for the first time that Democracy has failed by the impact of stealing votes away from voters and awarding them to Obama. They decided the intent of the voters! And that’s okay. Everyone in the room should have just gotten up and walked out but they didn’t, maybe because most do not realize the impact of what just happened. A lady called Harriet Christian did speak up and she was appalled and was escorted from the room. She probably was the only real American left in the room. So you lower the bar on Tuesday, so that Obama can reach the nomination, you give him extra delegates and you tell the woman it’s time to call it a day even though she has received more votes throughout the country. And, you let this third world interest in our country take over without even looking into what is happening. McCain will win by a landslide because you’ve not only lost the 17 million voters but another group—those that love America.

Posted by: Anne | June 2, 2008, 9:19 pm 9:19 pm

No, it’s Obama and his followers that think America owes them (think Michelle). Hillary believes she is the better candidate who can actually do some good and set the country on the right path. She’s been there, done that, not much more to prove. Obama is an untried, unqualified and ignorant Chicago politician who played the race card to get where he is. He has no love for this country and has no core values.
How else can you explain his denouncing his Church/grandma, wearing a flagpin etc. when he made so much noise in the first place for staying in that Church and not wearing a flagpn – should have stood up for his principles. He is spineless.
If Obama gets to the White House, he will discard all those who put him there if it is politically expedient.

I have to say, that I find these comments about darkie/barbie etc offensive, we are all human. It is time for not just the US but the world to realise we are all different, it would be very boring if we weren’t. Color/race/religion/political preference is not the crux here. What is best for the USA and the world…Comon USA the rest of the world looks up to you and this fighting is doing nothing. I see democratic voters saying if not Hillary then McCain, from the outside you are not democratic voters, you are taking the easy way out.

The Clinton campaign should take the DNC committee to court for fraud and breaking their own rules. Obama had removed his name froim the ballot and was no longer a candidate—no delegates allowed. In FL Obama campaigned for 10 days via TV ads which was against the rules and no penalty assessed. This has been the most dishonest campaign by the Democratic VIPs in 50 years. Count all the votes accurately. Besides there were at least 8 primaries where election fraud was suspected but no investigation by DNC since the wrongdoers were the Obama campaign.

Michelle Obama Rants About “Whitey” as Farrakhan, Pfleger, & Wright Sing the Chorus
No Quarter Blog was the first to pop up with this interesting tidbit:
I learned over the weekend why the Republicans who have seen the tape of Michelle Obama ranting about “whitey” describe it as “STUNNING.” I have not seen it but I have heard from five separate sources who have spoken directly with people who have seen the tape. It features Michelle Obama and Louis Farrakhan. They are sitting on a panel at Jeremiah Wright’s Church when Michelle makes her intemperate remarks.
Barack may have quit his church but his religious problems are not over. Barack Obama has a Nation of Islam problem that will receive more attention in the coming days. Before Barack came on the scene, THE MAN in his political district was Louis Farrakhan. No one could take Alice Palmer’s seat without Farrakhan’s blessing. No one. I do not fault Barack Obama for seeking out the blessing of Farrakhan, but the story of what was done behind the scenes to get rid of Barack’s predecessor—Alice Palmer—has not been told. A knowledgeable source tells me that Tony Rezko played a direct role in this feat. And Rezko has been tight with Farrakhan. It also should come as no surprise that Barack hired two members of the Nation of Islam to work on his staff—Jennifer Mason and Cynthia K. Miller.
In probing those matters we begin to understand that the Nation of Islam has been a critical component of Barack Obama’s base of support. And, I am told, Louis Farrakhan has been careful to use Tony Rezko as the intermediary in his relationship with Barack. This is not guilt by association, this is guilt because of actual relationship.
And Michelle Obama is guilty of being angry about a lot of things. If you don’t think she could be capable of using the “W” word, watch this video documenting some of her intemperate malapropisms. (The soundtrack is kickin’, too.)

Some of the nasty attitudes and remarks concerning Sen. Clinton are playing a big part in many Democratic voters changing their party affiliation to Independent and voting Republican in November. Obama doesn’t seem to be bringing out the best in his supporters, so much for his positive message. He is just another Chicago politician afterall.

Barack Obama: more defeatist than the French.
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said on Sunday that the security situation in Iraq was improving and reaffirmed France’s willingness to help rebuild the war-ravaged country.
“I have the feeling that things are better. Statistics show a drop in security incidents,” Kouchner told AFP after a working lunch with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari on the last day of his two-day visit to Iraq.

OBAMA IS DUMBER THAN BUSH. Just look at some of Obama’s gaffes and lies:
Obama claimed that his uncle helped liberate Auschwitz in Germany. Problem is Auschwitz is in Poland and the Soviet Union liberated it, not the US. Or Obama’s statement that America has 57 States or his Memorial Day Speech in New Mexico where he indicated that America’s “fallen heroes” were in the audience listening to him speak. Obama has also distorted his family history when he claimed that his birth was inspired by events that took place four years after he was born. On a handwriting questionnaire he claimed that someone else filled out the questionnaire on his opposition to gun rights until he had to fess up when someone proved that it was Obama’s own handwriting on the questionnaire. In Orlando Florida, Obama said he would meet with Hugo Chavez, who supports FARC, unconditionally. Than the next day Obama stated that any Nation who supported FARC guerrillas should be subjected to “regional isolation”. When Obama came under fire for stating he would meet unconditionally with the leaders of Iran, North Korea, Cuba and Syria in defense, Obama claimed that JFK’s 1961 summit meeting with Khrushchev led the the end of the Cold War. Just the opposite, JFK admitted that the meeting with Khrushchev made the US look weak and two months later the Berlin wall was built and stood for 28 years. Obama’s lies and ignorance of World history is stunning. If President Bush had made similar gaffes the main stream media would be all over it twenty-four/seven. The question is why is the mainstream media giving Obama a pass? The public has a right to know about the fact Obama is pretty ignorant of world history and has a track record of lies and gaffes when not in front of a teleprompter.

For the IDIOTS who insist Hillary Rodham Clinton has been destroying Barack Hussein Obama’s chance in the GE. I’ll tell you a story:
Mr. Gates really likes Ms. Buffett’s wind chimes which are made of Sterling silver, so he decides to help himself to them one late night when he thinks the Buffetts are asleep. He decides to wear a pair of ear plugs. He is as careful as he can possibly be when he tries to take down the wind chimes. However, his efforts fall short. Mr. Gates gets caught when the sound of the wind chimes wake up the Buffetts.
Mr. Gates’s fatal mistake resulted from his assumption that no one would hear the wind chimes because he was wearing ear plugs. He failed to realize he was the ONLY one wearing ear plugs.
As an Obamabot, your assumption is entirely self-defeating that ALL Democrats will fall in line and vote for him if Ms. Clinton endorses and campaigns for him. If she thought Obama is in fact a superior candidate worthy of her support, she would have dropped out long ago. The fact that she is still in the race supercedes ANY and EVERY SUBSEQUENT action she is to engage in if and when Obama become the offical nominee.
Translation: millions of Clinton Democrats will NEVER vote for John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi and Jimmy Carter’s choice to lead the only superpower left. Don’t you wonder why Al Gore has not endorsed Obama? Bill Clinton carried Tenn. but he did not.

Bill and Hillary are on the run. The people who paid all the kick back moneys for NAFTA favours and outsourcing contracts will be looking for their money back. They paid for influence and the Clintons can’t deliver. Hillary will probably leave. Because of the long fight between her and Obama it has become clear that Obama can’t win in November. If she stays in too much longer she will get the blame when Obama loses in November. Once again my deomcratic party has given away the election to the gop. Obama is truly a spoiler.

Yea I’m amazed to hear that Howard dean and company are surprised at the amount of anger in the Clinton camp. The current left wing branch of my party is really out of touch with the american people. perfect example Ted kennedy the guy who has been in the senate since 1963 decides to support the candiate of change. Ted remember change starts at home.

The Democrats will be sorry when President elect McCain wins. Please I am sure the news media and Obama voters will still blame Senator Hillary Clinton for them voting for such a weak nominee for the party and loose again. It will be 1972 all over again just watch. This just shows why the Republicans win the big elections and the Democrats continue to loose.
Thanks, Supper Delegates for helping to elect another Republican.

Then Hillary can run again!

MIguy – It’s the same people posting the same nonsense over and over and over again.
So much for intelligent discourse. Then again, these are the same people that have been posting this tripe for months now. Ever since March when it was a foregone conclusion Obama would be the nominee, they have ratcheted up the vitriol.
Their candidate has effectively suspended her campaign, her donors and delegates are moving over to Obama, and her calendar is clear.
It’s going to be a very gloomy Tuesday night for these trolls. Imagine the hate they’re going to spew when it is official.

I see all these democrats giving the most amazing reasons for not voting for Obama… He is not a woman, he is black, he is a muslim…the democrats have taken a unique opportunity to take the white house, claim a larger stake in congress and appoint the next couple of supreme court justices, and have turned it into a woman vs. black issue. I expected this from the GOP…anyone still think Hillary is not divisive? Shame on the DNC, and shame on all you democrats who will just take your ball and go home because the outcome is not the one you want.

Pro Growth, Pro-Jobs Tax Agenda
Cutting Taxes For The Middle Class:
John McCain Will Cut Taxes For Middle Class Families. John McCain will permanently repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) – a tax that will be paid nearly exclusively by 25 million middle class families. Repealing this onerous tax will save middle class families nearly $60 billion in a single year. Under McCain’s plan, a middle class family with children set to pay the AMT will save an average of over $2,700 – a real tax cut for working families.
John McCain Will Double The Personal Exemption For Dependents. John McCain believes the tax code should be less of a burden on those, whether they are mothers and fathers or single parents, who are trying to raise a family. He proposes to raise the personal exemption for each dependent from $3,500 to $7,000.
This is McCain!

The saddest part of all of this is that the Republicans will stay in office, because the Democratic leaders are so freaking stupid. Why couldn’t they just stand up to the Florida Republican Legislature who disenfranchised Florida’s democratic voters and say “No, we will not allow you to do that. All Democratic votes will count.” But noooooooooo. They’ve not only drunk the kool-aid, they’re making it. Posted by: leslie | June 2, 2008, 11:05 pm 11:05 pm

Good for you anna marie to make some points.
Here’s the problems:
1. The AMT is absolutely essential to the budget – without it the government goes more broke.
2. One of the many problems we have with the economy is that we are spending way too much! That is why I don’t consider Bush/Cheney as Republicans. The war is the chief drag on the budget. Medicare is going insolvent, Social Security will too. The solution is not to keep spending.
3. If our money continues to devalue, then we’ll all be billionaires and won’t be able to buy bread.
I’m no fan of the spending nature of the Democrats, but at least they’ll blow our wad at home rather than giving it to corrupt politicians and Halliburton subsidiaries overseas.

Clinton supporters will do everything in their power to elect John McCain.
Then they will have everything they want: 8 years Bush + 8 years McCain = 16 years of Republican rule.
And we don’t want to hear one complaint. NOT ONE.
Forget about Clinton winning in 2012…You will give your vote to the Republicans in 2008, but the Republicans will absolutely NOT give their vote to you in 2012. What about the Obama supporters? Oh well, in the words of Harriet Christian, we are too ‘inadequate’ to matter.

Posted by: Independent04 | June 2, 2008, 11:12 pm 11:12 pm

jessica- You are right. Hillary should run on a third party ticket. That will insure that McCain wins by a landslide. I understand being upset when your candidate loses and I would feel th3e same way about Obama losing. But this is not about Hillry Clinton, Barrack Obama or any other individual. I don’t like the Clinton’s and do not support Hillary, but if she did win, I’m realistic to know it’s either her or a republican. Suddenly the candidates name is no longer as important as the party and the fact that no way, under any circumstance, can I let another Bush in the White House. At least that is how I am feeling.

Posted by: Olivia | June 2, 2008, 11:14 pm 11:14 pm

Now it seems that some people are making more sense; I can understand the HRC supporters who won’t vote or vote third party rather than McCain. The ones that would vote McCain, I don’t quite understand, but that is certainly your right.
@Texas Voter: Last night I was going over the math on the blogs and I think the decision will be purely tactical. McCain is currently pitching a “moderate” campaign, but I think he’ll lose if he doesn’t shore up his base with a conservative, evangelical or combination thereof. They have got to paint Obama as a whiny, inexperienced, know-it-all, tree-hugging, US-hating liberal who wipes his rear with the flag. So he needs to offset that with his VP candidate. I don’t think he’ll pick a woman other than Clinton. I think his tacticians clearly know what states they must win to get 270 and I’m sure the VP will be someone who will get at least one of those states. I have no idea, though, honestly. Clinton is acting like it won’t be her and as al said above she should decline it as she would be marginalized more than Gore was.

I do not know if may of you remember the cold war between the soviet union and america, but it was a bitter one. The USSR could match us tank for tank and missle for missle, but the reason they could not attack us was because of their economy. People the economy not the war is the most important factor. If your economy is not thriving then your military capabilities become limited.

Posted by: CaPIcorn2 | June 2, 2008, 11:20 pm 11:20 pm

Posted by: MIguy | June 2, 2008, 11:22 pm 11:22 pm

MIguy – I don’t believe Clinton will get the invitation to run as VP. She has the highest negatives of any Democratic candidate and would energize the Republican base like no other person. Why kick over that anthill if you don’t have to?
I can see Richardson to shore up his foreign policy, I can see Sebelius to shore up health insurance and Western states, and I can see Ed Rendell to help with the Rust Belt.
From a purely strategic standpoint, I am going to be very interested to see which way the Obama Campaign goes.

Posted by: beth ann | June 2, 2008, 11:33 pm 11:33 pm

@Texas Voter: I agree that all signs point away from Clinton, but you never know. This was a little math exercise I tried last night: say out of likely dem voters HRC has 50% now. Assume that 1/3 “won’t” vote for Obama (from the polls, but unlikely to be that high). That is about 16.67%. Then there’s the typical apathy factor of 50% of don’t vote and that leaves about 8.33%. Out of that, I would like many would either write in HRC or vote 3rd party. So, probably 2-6% is what Obama loses out on depending on each state. That is counterbalanced by his supporters he would lose and the anti-HRC folks who would vote against her. This would be a state-by-state calculation that would need to be made.
It will be very interesting to see which VP each candidate chooses. I think McCain will be in trouble this fall as I foresee, unless something changes, a pretty high Republican apathy this year.

It wasn’t just the ruling by the DNC on Saturday, it was also top Democrats who publicly called on Hillary Clinton to quit her campaign, even though there are millions of people who believe in her and the issues Hillary Clinton plans to work on as president. I am very disappointed and disturbed that 30 people have the power to allocate delagates, showing disregard and disrespect for how Americans voted in the Michigan. There should have been a revote but somehow because the DNC does not give a damn about the American people they did not have one. From now on I will become Independent and will I will not vote just because of the candidate’s party affiliation. I can’t believe that here’s Hillary Clinton, the best candidate for president, well-educated, her experience working for women’s rights, especially children’s rights, and all her work as first lady of Arkansas such establishing a better education standards in that state, also her work to help educate impoverished mothers on how to educate their toddlers at home, and her efforts to establish Universal Health Care in this country, which to me is very important because you know I do care, as many others about the millions of Americans who have no health care insurance. Now I realize this country is not mature enough to elect a woman as her president. I guess we are still a backwards country. I was so happy that Hillary Clinton was running to become President, and even though she is more qualified than the male candidates, there are still people in this country who refuse vote for a woman to become president and most likely they hate the Clintons too much. I have never been so disappointed and now I have lost hope that people in this county can act civilize and have respect, compassion, and love for each other. I guess many people in this country don’t give a damn about the welfare of their fellow man, who cares if other people are living paycheck to paycheck, who cares if others cannot afford to go to college, who cares if others do not have health care insurance, who cares if other people are suffering. It’s all about what’s in it for me, me, me. This is how the top Democratic officials such as Pelosi, Dean, Donna Brazile, and most of all the fake Obama. I have no respect for this man and I don’t know what it is he but he is not trustworthy and he sure does not get my vote to become president of the United States.

Lily: In response to your post, a lot of us seniors got over today’s Republican party, and Hillary Clinton a long time ago. I am a white, male, senior citizen, former small business owner, from Texas, who cannot support a party that has abandoned it’s values. Today’s Republican party is not the party I joined as a young Republican when Senator Barry Goldwater was vying for the top job. It has been hijacked by the corporate world. I used to say corporate America, but that is no longer the case. If you won’t believe me, just ask the 27 lobbyists left on the McCain campaign team. Including five who represented the French subsidized conglomerate, Airbus. By the way, Airbus has been a large contributor to McCain’s campaign. It is time for policies such as Senator Obama’s. He may be somewhat liberal on social infrastructure, but stands firm when it comes to the Constitution, defense, foreign policy, and corporations. He has written legislation designed to wrest control from the likes of John Paulson who took home 3.7 billion in 2007, George Soros – 2.9B in 07, James Simons – 2.9B in 07, Philip Falcone – 1.7B in 07, Kenneth Griffin – 1.5B in 07. There are many others in this league fighting his policies and fear his becoming President, especially with the likelihood the Senate will add a number of new Democrats in Nov. Democrats favorable to Obama’s policies. He is the first Senator to stand up to these modern day robber baron’s and propose legislation to close their tax loopholes in order to have that capital remain in America and be taxed at a reasonable rate rather than being sequestered in off-shore banks, then invested in the Euro or foreign commodities. Just Google the phrase “Business Roundtable”, and you will find many who are fighting Senator Obama, such as the few I mentioned above, fearful he will come to power and their corporate hold will begin to erode. All you people who spout the Limbaugh, Hannity crap on a daily basis, better wake up and realize you are slaves, and to whom you are slaved to, before it is too late. The way I look at it, my generation is being offered a chance to begin to straighten out what it has created over the past decades, and it won’t happen in eight years. By the way, there are a whole bunch of us former Republicans here in Houston Texas that feel the same way. All of you folks out there with the white and blue hair and are old enough to remember Barry Goldwater, better wake up before our grandchildren have nothing left, except a part of an IOU to China, Gulf oil countries, and Japan.

FYI
I am very doubtful that SB and James are Clinton supporters.
If you can recall it is Clinton that has been on the receiving end of the most profane and racists slanders from a pulpit.
There has been unbelievable media bias throughout the primary. There has been an unbelievable media campaign for Obama that has not served the country well.
There is also racism and sexism that still surrounds us all. But I do not believe that the type of hate and reverse racism that Mr Obama has tolerated in his very left wing Chicago church is rampant in most Black churches,
As the middle aged grandmother of a bi-racial grandson I resent racism whoever spouts it. And there is no excuse for haveing to encounter and tolerate it on these blogs.
There is also no excuse for Mr Obama sitting in that environment for 20 years. The fact that he is not outraged by the comments tells me that he has become used to them.
There is no excuse for Imus (and Obama did not hesitate to suggest he be fired) There is no excuse for Wright and the Father (and Obama when push came to shove finally distanced himself from both).
If Hillary can’t pull it out so be it…I will be voting for McCain…He’s the guy that stood up and said the Father’s comments were “disgraceful” and Hillary didn’t deserve to be lambasted from the pulpit.
McCain is a centrist Republican. I am a centrist Democrat. I need a president that will stand up for me.
America is a melting pot…I had hoped that we had moved past some of the racial hate…I do not allow hate talk and radical rhetoric in my presence…I will not vote for a man that has a high tolerance for it in his own church.

This is not a question for the Democratic Party leadership. Please send this absolutely to the top of the Party as a direct criticism of what is going on in the Democratic Party candidate selection process. The party leadership is not getting the message. We need a strong ticket to put forward in November not simply a hope cast into the wind that enough of the idealistic and disillusioned youth vote (read under age 30-35) in both parties will rally around Obama. I don’t see it happening. I think the candidate selection process ought to go to the Convention floor. The best ticket would have both Obama and Hillary on it but with Obama as the V-P candidate. The reason is that as soon as Obama is named the Democratic Presidential candidate, the polls will begin to shift. Within two months of Obama’s selection, McCain will reclaim the Republicans who might have been on the fence due to the abysmal performance by the Bush Administration. McCain will slowly and subtley convince more and more average Americans that he will make a notable improvement in Bush’s record. And no doubt that will be true. Central tendancy alone will mean anyone, even a Republican, will be an improvement. With Obama as the masthead, the Democratic Party will have squandered the best hope we have had for ending what at times has seemed the never ending tyranny of a failure of the White House to listen to the American People. Yes, squandered. Defeat snatched out of the jaws of victory. And now the Democratic Party leadership is suffering from the same error. That is, none of you is listening to your own Party faithful. Millions are repeatedly saying that Hillary will win the popular vote but Obama will will the candidacy. Something is terribly wrong with that dicotomy. I believe Obama will make an excellent President after Hillary’s two terms are over. But if he is the candidate this year, neither Hillary nor Obama will have the opportunity to be President. I have personally been broken hearted at what Bush and his puppet-masters have done to the country over the last eight years. And I have been waiting for the day when the Democratic Party would put an unassailable ticket forward to crush the political carelessness of the Republican Party. But now I feel like all those hopes are for naught. I am from California and although we may well be able to deliver all of our electoral votes on the Democratic side, I fear most of the rest of the country will be sadly split with McCain holding serve with enough votes to keep a Democrat out of the White House and to put all the gains in Congress over the last few years in jeopardy. Why aren’t the Democratic Party leaders listening?! It has nothing to do with not wanting a Black man in the White House. It has everything to do with wanting a Democrat in the White House for the next 16 years at least. Stop this idealistic love fest where the close calls are generously falling in Obama’s lap and think about the kind of tough candidate we will need to defeat McCain in November. Get real! Am I clear? I can tell you, if Obama is our candidate, I will 100 percent vote for him. But my vote and California’s combined Democratic vote will not be enough. California is very likely to support whomever the Democratic candidate is. So, personally my vote will not matter much in California. Instead, I would much prefer to send my Democratic vote to a state on the fence to give us a better electoral margin. As my grandson would say, there is something Wack about what’s going on and someone needs to start paying attention. Bring on the floor vote and see what the delegates are really thinking and feeling in their heart of hearts. Do not disappoint us once again. Do the right thing!
Sincerely,
Bill Kirk, Major, USAF (Retired)

Posted by: KN | June 3, 2008, 2:24 am 2:24 am

Granted Bill Kirk, perhaps you are correct – but only the next 5 months will answer that exactly.
However, Obama has an army of volunteers and a mountain of cash and it’s unrealistic to think that Obama and Hillary are going to flip places on the ticket between now and the convention. The nomination is a delegate race and Obama has won that race.
The only real choice is for Hillary’s loyal supporters to fall in with Obama’s – if they can move past their disappointment with the outcome to focus on a more fundamental decision.
This will only happen when everyone who claims to care about the principles of the Democratic party rally around the banner and realize that McCain will not get these things done due to the special interests mooring his platform.
This is an election where people will have to decide – independents will need to declare. The decision will be, what country do we want to leave for our children and grandchildren?
For my two cents, you embody the best of what our country stands for.

By all estimates (including ABC’s) the caucus votes are estimated with input from election night tallys and Obama is given “uncommitted” in MI where at least half was for John Edwards….Hillary has won the popular vote….
Obama has won the red states and the caucus’s but Hillary is the strongest candidate against John McCain….And the last 2.5 months she has really overwhelmingly won…
She started winning big when Obama’s church and his long time friends became an issue…..Soon maybe too late for Hillary we will finally get to know all about Rezko and Obama’s links to the corruption case….
The media has done us a disservice. McCain will benefit.
This election should be a Democratic walkaway….now it looks like a really tight race.
It is about judgement….your associations and friends and church tell people what you believe and what you tolerate and in some ways who you are.
Obama may get this nomination, but Hillary has the majority of the popular vote…The delegate system is ridiculous…Here in Texas my vote only counted 2/3 at the ballot box and 1/3 at the caucus. Hopefully the system will be reformed so next time out we can get the strongest candidate.

I knew from the beginning Obama would be passed through by media and dem liberals to show good faith. Wrong black guy, I’m afraid. Posted by: pt | June 3, 2008, 7:14 am 7:14 am

Even Hillary can’t MAKE her supporters vote for someone they honestly can’t vote for. The DNC has allowed the party to disintegrate during this primary.
For those that say, how can you be a democrat then? Well the time has come for people to stand on their own convictions on who is the best person to lead the country.
Many people didn’t really like any of the choices during this primary but, the thought of HAVING to vote the party line just because you are democrat is over.
This primary has made a lot of people search their soul for the right answer, I’m sure. As in most cases there are good and bad reasons for every choice. Each person must make their own choice and live with it.
I won’t get into arguments as to why I can’t vote for Obama, I have my own reasons. I have decided that the best way for me is to vote for the person, not the party.

“The people that allow Obama to become the nominee do not realize he will not win in nov. They are fools.”
So… the majority of ordinary Americans, of American DEM Senators and DEM Governors are… fools? And so is everyone at The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC….
Only because “our girl” has not been able get enough votes and support to get the nomination?
Something appears to be seriously wrong with the mindset of Hillary’s most stubborn supporters. And with Hillary herself, for that matter.
Hillary people only seem to care about democracy and a DEM agenda for America if it suits their personal desires…
Which is against the spirit of democracy, and against the spirit of the United States of America.
They should get their “I’m not bitter” buttons and T-shirts out, to start with.

WE all know American’s are too shallow to vote and superficial to vote for that old man that can’t say anything tangible but throw words like “terrorists, Hamas, Nu-cu-lear, attack us” around. The guy is a fear monger… that works in American politics, but he is also an old senile ugly man… and America is too under the influence on “Americas top Model” to vote for Quasimodo.
Mccain will lose… not just cause he is clueless on the issues… but because his heart wont last long enough.
God bless AMerica… OBAMA 08. VOTE FOR CHANGE!!!!!

Posted by: higuy | June 3, 2008, 7:35 am 7:35 am

Hank…..Why can’t a person just not vote for someone because they don’t feel they have enough experience? The reasons for voting AGAINST a candidate can be just as compelling to vote FOR a candidate.
Why can’t people disagree with Obama supporters? It is as if you don’t vote for my candidate then you are wrong. Are people any less American because they don’t agree with you?
How do you expect to win over Independents with, “you are either with us or against us”. Obama supporters have continually failed to connect with other candidates supporters.
Now that the nominee process is all but over, how will Obama supporters try to bring unity to the party? Belittling Clinton supporters will not get their vote just because they are democrats.
Independents and swing voters will play a crucial roll in how this election goes down.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the DNC seated Michigan according to THEIR estimate (Michigan Democratic Party’s estimate, not the DNC’s estimate) of probable popular support, which ran approximately 54% Clinton–46% Obama.  They fairly clearly did not ratify nor accept “the popular vote” in Michigan as they expressly did for Florida.
Simply put–according to the DNC–the votes from Florida counted (Obama supporters would say that’s not fair, but they counted them)–the votes from Michigan didn’t count.

And I would make a bet that Clinton herself would agree. If you want to know what Obama’s really about and what his record in the senate is, go to Google and find the DailyKos entry “I refuse to buy into the Obama Hype” (but she changed her mind…) by grassroots mom 2/20/08. Obama’s record is extraordinary. However, if you’re stuck on your opinion and not interested, well, it’s your loss.

I know. I find it ironic that people sitting in front of their COMPUTER can be so uninformed.
The Supers know what he has done and what he can do. That is why they are endorsing him.
It will just take a while to “reinform” her supporters. This will need to be done by HRC herself.

ClintonsAgain
I will vote for whomever the democratic nominee is. period. That’s because I’m a democrat and I care deeply what happens to this country. The vice-presidency doesn’t affect my decision one way or another.
Voting republican is a sure-fire way to send this country back to the middle ages. If this is something that doesn’t disturb your sensibilities then I would seriously question your ability to think clearly and rationally and there’s no way you can call yourself a democrat if that’s the case. We will all pay dearly if McCain is elected and you are not exempt from that misery. Most of all, I feel very, very sad for our kids and the families of our kids in Iraq, who, under a McCain presidency, will be doomed to endure many more years of a senseless war. That is, if they survive. You should be ashamed of yourself.

What will all of these Conservative bloggers do now that they can’t pretend to be Republicans ? You people should really read up on DNC Rules…. they actually gave HILLARY more than she deserved in Michigan and Florida. As far as giving the nomination to Obama….. Clinton made several statements about her desire to change the Superdelegate’s minds to support her. Considering that Bill and Hillary double teamed him…. he came out all right. Don’t look for the Clintons in a VP spot anytime soon.
Then we would have to come up with a title for Bill. ASSOCIATE PRESIDENT .

I will not give one Dime to a candidate that so lacks courage he could vote present 130 times. Nor will I support a party which counts voters as half people. Pay attention to the shift that has begun in the media. Suddenly even Chris Matthews spoke in positive terms about Senator Clinton. They are about to treat her with respect so that you will forget their burying her for all these months. They believe you will forget and join the lemming koolaid party for Obama.

I agree with one thing. The democratic party is NOT the democratic party of old. It is now the party of minorities.
Has been that way ever since civil rights. That is why the party continues to court the minority vote because their old base has all but evaporated and gone republican. It will be worse in 15 years. I’ve been a democrat for 40 years and this year I became republican. Like many I am sick of quotas, affirmative action and dumbing down standardized tests so more minorities can gain access through tilting the scale rather than through achievement while limoscene liberals tell the have nots to keep giving to have even less. We have become a country of mediocrity.

Sen Clinton shuld run Independent. Most Democrats will support her, and she will crush obama and McCain.

To: Anne and James…..
This is exactly why we need to move on as a NATION beyond all this sexism and “black” talk! HILLARY LOST fair and square! No tricks, and even in his losing Obama ALWAYS commended Hillary! Now why cant she do the same with grace? Why is it so hard to accept a MIXED WHITE/BLACK Man as an AMERICAN and willing to LEAD US ALL? Such hate, and for WHAT? I see why some tend to think Hillary feels she is “entitled”. She lost, plain and simple to someone EVERYONE seems to love to hate for nothing! WE ARE AMERICANS, no matter what the color!

Posted by: AmericanLikeYOU | June 3, 2008, 1:16 pm 1:16 pm

It is really a shame to see how many Americans live with bigotry, racist thoughts or pure ignorance. It’s time to grow up and act as a “Unified” party and nation. It shouldn’t matter what someone’s gender or skin color is or if your favorite candidate won. This is not high school! This is serious business. We can either elect a democrat or we can elect another Bush-like republican. Can the country really survive another 4 to 8 years of the Republicans? Look at what Bush has done over the past 8 years: we have a broken economy, people are losing jobs, we are in a war that is over 5 years old, scores of US soldiers are dying or being maimed every week, the housing market has gone to crap, people are losing their homes and too many Americans can’t afford health care. What is John McCain’s answer to the US situation? I’ll tell you what the answer is…Mickey Mouse Foriegn Policy, staying in Iraq for another 10, 20 or 100 years and bankrupting the US economy until we are “owned in full” by the Chinese. He has no purposeful direction for the country. You can either debate Clinton and Obama till November and let the country go down the tubes thanks to the Rebublicans or you can act like grown up, mature adults and stand behind the Democratic nominee 100% and change this country for the better. If you really love America, and I mean really love America you forget race, gender and bigotry and rally around Barack Obama. We cannot stand for another 4 to 8 years of Republican rule. Think about your children and/or grandchildren. This is a serious election and you need to stop being sore losers and unite as one. Remember, united we stand, divided we fall. I know for sure that I don’t want to see bumber stickers 2 years from now that say “I didn’t vote for McCain” when under McCain’s leadership our Country further self destructs into the point of no return and and is commonly referred to as the “Nation formerly known as the worlds’ only superpower”.
Obama ’08

The actual bottom line is you can spin this anyway you want to but the truth is Obama is leading in (legal uncontested) popular votes that are not part of the flawed process of early voting in both states. I don’t think the people of Florida or Michigan are flawed, I think the political figure heads are flawed becaue they could have secured a legal remedy but they failed to get it done, so they made a mess out of things. I respect the passion of Clinton supporters and Obama supporters alike, there is a much bigger picture to consider here like the war in Iraq, our economy and taking back the White House. Both candidates supporters need to work together and UNITE the democratic party to make sure that CHANGE occurs in Washington. If we democrats spend more time uniting our party instead of fighting among ourselves so our collective voice is heard, that voice will rumble not only in Washington, but our voice will be heard around the world. I want all Americans to UNITE so we can lead the world arena positively. Vote democratic and accept the results that were reached by the DNC. I support the democratic nominee whoever it is. I personally believe it will be Senator Barack Obama and if that is the way it is, I hope democrats show the republicans how tired of paying so much for gas and how tired of the real estate market falling apart you are. SAVE THE AMERICAN ECONOMY FIRST, then lend a helping hand around the world. Trust OBAMA and trust CLINTON to unite and get the job done in November. In closing this response I close with the highest respect for both democratic candidates and more importantly their supporters, because without us NOTHING can get done in Washington. OBAMA 2008.

Posted by: Lou | June 3, 2008, 1:43 pm 1:43 pm

Democrats won’t vote for obama, even if Hillary ask us for it.

Posted by: Libre | June 3, 2008, 1:50 pm 1:50 pm

Lou Obama already divided the party, do not ask now to unite to support the divider.

Posted by: Libre | June 3, 2008, 1:51 pm 1:51 pm

Too bad top donners, it is not up to them anymore. The people have decided, and they want Barack Obama.

Posted by: joeforsure | June 3, 2008, 3:45 pm 3:45 pm

The only way the democrates win is the Hillary is in the White house what, or there will be disaster and failure again.
So suck it up democrates those who went against Hillary need to realize this is not over till tonight or when someone get the magic number unless you got the magic wand to do so now?? and once it is over then still there is a slot, if the party wants to unit and then call it victory for all D’s I would call it double DD for demorcates with out the formala of the power who are less to win the White house

Posted by: gg | June 3, 2008, 4:22 pm 4:22 pm

With out a Clinton in the white house there the jobless will stay job less and the prices will grow higher and the economy will get sucked up more by gas prices, so if you let Hillary walk away you all lose then, She is has what it takes to be either 1 or?

Posted by: gg | June 3, 2008, 4:25 pm 4:25 pm

I, like many others I know, will be a
Democrat for McCain if Hillary is not the nominee, and no way if she is the VP!
The only qualified, Hillary!
If not, McCain.
NObama!

Hillary you are the winner by Popular votes but what the DNC did was unjust.
Please take it to the Demver Convention or become Independent. We will vote for you in November. We stand by you at what ever you do. I will not vote Democatic and will switch parties. I lost all my faith in Democracy.
I am outrage!!!!

The supporters who believe Hillary has won the popular vote are apparently the same people who believe Hillary was under sniper fire. Sure if you exclude the caucus states there is a metric that will give her the popular vote. WHO CARES, it’s about DELEGATES. Give Hillary all the delegate votes she wants, she still loses. I’m sick of these delusional, spoiled, ignorant Hillary supporters.

Posted by: Erik Rylander | June 4, 2008, 10:48 am 10:48 am

Hillary is so yesterday. There is change in the air. It is not a time to look back at hasbeens. Borak Obama will beat the bejesus out of McCain because no one can afford another Bush term of $4 billion a week warfare, gas prices, expensive healthcare and the economy destroying what is left of the middle class. Its as simple as that. Cry at your own peril or look forward. Hillary is gone from the scene. New leadership is here.

Hillary should be President! I like Sen. Obama, he seems like a nice man. But he doesn’t possess the foreign credntials & expierience we need.Obama has only been in the Senate actually 1 & 1/2 yrs. His ” I can do everything speech ” scares me. His lack of foreign policy really scares me! please Hillary, keep fighting for Michigan & Florida!!! they should count too. This is an illegal vote if they are not included.I am from Ga. Keep fighting Hillary!!!All the way to the convention. You’re a fighter!!Don’t give in!!!
