A Vice Presidential Game of Clue

Is it Tom Ridge?…In Pennsylvania?…With the sudden (and late) disclosure of his lobbying?

Could it be Sen. Claire McCaskill?….On a Sunday show?….With a comment about how she was told not to discuss whether she’s being vetted?

We’re all looking for clues, a la Professor Plum and Colonel Mustard.

Check out our Good Morning America report HERE.

Jake I know I sound like a broken record…but…
I am almost positive it’s going to be Biden…
did you see the press release about Biden “speaking on behalf of Presidential candidate Obama today…at the Global engagement conference.”
Lieberman is speaking for McCain and Biden is speaking for Obama.
It’s going to be Biden.

it matters not, WHO, you pair obama or mccain with, everytime either opens his mouth, I cringe, and shake my head in wonder of HOW,(even after bush) either of these two could end up being president.
obama or mccain could and should run together, think about that, what a disaster, I wonder who really wants to step up to the plate and be vp to obama or mccain, it will surely, be the end of their political career.
I’ll bet everyone who name is being called, the person on the inside is saying, “Oh, please not me.”
Who really wants to be harnessed to obama or mccain?
I say everyone do as I am doing and go read up on the green party.
they may not win this year, but if enough people vote for them, maybe we can bring about REAL CHANGE in DC, because, the est. dems, and reps. will have to think about changing.
So, hey folks, it’s in vogue,
GO GREEN.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

get a clue…is that why all the prospectives have been saying their not interested …yet have been auditioning…
It’s going to be Biden for Obama… and because obama picks Biden McCain is going to really think hard about picking a woman…
unfortunately the pool of women he can choose are really weak (just by sheer lack of volume of republican women in office)… he could go with a business woman like Fiorina…but ugh…now that we have seen her for a few days in the spotlight…she’s horrible.
If he ends up not finding a woman suitable (which unfortunately will be trhe case)it will be most likely Romeny or Pawlenty…
with Biden on the Obama side…he is going to be thinking about the debate heavily… because he can’t put someone in that debate that will have the floor wiped up with them… so Pawlenty will probably be scrapped.
My guess right now is it is going to be Biden (who was Obama’s choice to speak on his behalf today at the global engagement conference) and Romney.

McCain’s choice of women weak??? lmao.
You must not know about the most popular govenor in America for Alaska, former beauty queen and basketball all star, who has five children, one of whom just enlisted at 18. She’s also from Iowa and shoots a mean hunting rifle.
Google the info. You’ll find her. The dems are in one big mess of trouble if he picks her. I’m sure the only issue is that she has just given birth to her fifth child who has down’s syndrome and may not want the job.

Hagel seems to be a man of principle,
why, oh why? would he want to lay down, and pack away, everything he has ever stood for, just to help obama win.
I heard the man say clearly, he would NOT do that.
We should be thinking about the big picture-for me that is obama and mccain are so inadequate-it is imperative that they pick vp’ that will appear to make up where they are so lacking, and that seems to be in every important area,
speaking,judgement, you name it.
inside obama and mccain, should be feeling embarrassed that the talking heads see them as not really good enough, therefore, pick a better vp.
i say give obama and mccain a pass this year.
they need it.

If that is your qualifications for a VP…the repubs are in worse trouble than even I thought. lol played basketball, and was a beauty queen?
lol lol lol oy

obama/hagel or selibus or powell

Posted by: angie | July 14, 2008, 10:28 am 10:28 am

obama is no good at debating, nor is mccain.
so one of the reasons for picking the vp is-How good will he be at debating?
I say, no to obama and no to mccain.
both flip-flopper’ and pander.
I’ll be party of REAL CHANGE this year,
and add to the strength of the GREEN PARTY’ numbers, they will not win.
but if enough vote green this year,
the other two parties will take notice.

can you imagine..Palin going up against Biden or Clinton…
s.b. c’mon your smarter than that I would hope…
can you imagine the VP debate is it was the basketball playing beauty queen… who overseas the dramatic economics and foreign relations of a state like Alaska…population smaller than the top 20 cities of the US…
against…well anyone on the short list for Obama…
c’mon…oh that’s right she brings alaska and she’s from Iowa…oh that’s right like D Cheney …she shoots a mean rifle…lol
and you think this woman …america would be comfortable taking over the Presidency of the united States…oy.
It’s not going to be Palin I can guarantee you that. It’ll be Fiorina before Palin.

Posted by: dl | July 14, 2008, 10:36 am 10:36 am

Obama’s numbers are lower than even I expected at this point. He badly needs a way to get out of the candidate du jour image and start looking like he can handle the Presidency. Showing fear of a woman because she might outshine him is saying very loudly he is a wuss. Biden is a fine choice but Hillary has 18 million votes. You do the math.
Funny graphics this morning, Jake. As frames for a story go, that was clever.

The article raised deep questons though…Whats wrong with hockey hair? And why did you only pick on the republicans hair? Was the Biden target too easy?

Unfortunately the lgic isn’t there for the Clinton chice (it could be the choice…but I am pretty sure it is Biden)
Clinton’s state by state numbers show an increase in support for McCain in key states…
the problem has always been she has a low ceiling (lower now because of the primaries) for support…and a low floor of people who will go out and vote against her.
She causes many repubs (not saying obama doesn’t have some anyway but) she causes many repubs to get off their couches, drop their “clickas” and go to the voting booth in a lot of states.
The fact is 90% of those 18 million votes are going to Obama…no matter what some crazy loons say…
the independents (where these elections are won) need to see some reinforcement of his unknowns with some experience and foreign policy)
and the whole argument that picking someone with strong foreign policy experience will highlight his lack of…is a non starter.
Biden may put his foot in his mouth on occasion…and talks a lot…but there is just no getting away from the fact that he has been the best attack dog for the dems over the past 8 years…
America knows Joe Biden as the guy who was on their tv’s every weekend on one show or another fighting to change the Bush administrations direction.
I think at this point there is no getting around this…
not to mention the whole “plane problem” with obama and Hillary’s plane…showed a problem with her as VP…because everybody (right or wrong) when they heard it was her plane…well what do you think even her supporters first thought was? You can’t have a VP where if something happens to the Pres…America’s first thought isn’t…”we have fallen into safe, good hands”…but instead “hmmm did she have something to do with it”
I am not saying it is right to think that but unfortunately that is what people think…and the plane kinda proved that…again unfortunately.

Republicans will go safe with Romney, maybe Pawlenty.
Obama’s pick is more wide open and unpredictable. Dodd, Biden, Webb, Bayh McCaskill…

hopesprings52
I have to say I agree. I mean my bet is heavily on Biden but any VP choice on McCain’s side…they have to be thinking…ugh…why can’t we skip a vp debate…lol
whoever the VP’s are… the VP debate is going to be a thrashing for the republicans.
For the first time I feel for Pawlenty and …no actually as an ex Massachusetts resident (hometown boy there) Romney was horrible for them.
cleaned up finances kinda like Bush…with a temporary patch to reward his own appearance…when in actuality was destroying it worse than it would have …
Romney like the Bush administration’s economic policies are trickledown and cover-up economics…the cover-up aspect is because they (like McCain’s policies) don’t look at the root core opf the problem… they just make sure the wealthy are okay…and think that will solve the problems…
obviously that is mistaken at best…slimey at worst…
and having met Romney…my guess is slimey.

What are people talking about Hillary’s plane? It was Obama’s plane that messed up, and I cant beleive Hillary got on it the next day. I am sure Obama is just dangling Hillary in her supporters face. I dont think he will pick her too bad cause she’s darn smart and doses a wonderful stump speech.

Posted by: rachel | July 14, 2008, 11:15 am 11:15 am

Jake I like Biden, I think he would be good, but I honestly would love it if they would take Colin Powell.
I think that would be a very strong team.

Posted by: becky | July 14, 2008, 11:19 am 11:19 am

oh yes,
one last thing, Sen. clinton is OUT.
I don’t want her with him
and he and his people don’t want her.
so i wish everyone would just stop talking about sen. clinton and vp in the same breath.
so she is hated.
she is back on her day job, where she should be.

Posted by: jgaw | July 14, 2008, 11:20 am 11:20 am

Obama will almost definitely pick a white Catholic male. Also, remember Caroline Kennedy is the spiritual core of the vetting team. Dodd and Biden are good pals of Ted. This pick belongs to the Kennedys. Chris is a good speaker, a winner, has a good heart and knows the issues. He also has a very likeable personality which has made him popular among both Dems and Repubs. Chris also has ties to the Clintons, having saved Clinton’s reelection bid in 1996. Edge to Dodd, Ted’s best bud with many other pluses.

Posted by: hopesprings52 | July 14, 2008, 11:20 am 11:20 am

BTW: McCain can run with Fiorina and have a debating partner with a great face, a good voice and steel nerves.
Carly has the power of personality to offset the Clinton advantage. Biden won’t fare better against her in a debate. He is skilled in the Senate. She is skilled in the boardroom. I assure you, she has better chops in a debate. His only advantage will be foreign affairs.
She made mincemeat of Claire on Meet the Press.

go look at the numbers from past election there was always a “pre-Convention” percentage similar to those with obama…that said they will vote for the other candidate…this is not news…people are just trying to make it look out of the ordinary when it is not.
IN fact Bill Clinton’s numbers were slightly less that said they would vote for the repub (just before the convention) but they were more strongly anti Bill C. beleive it or not…but if you go look at those polls that is a fact)
so time for reality to kick in on the “defections” bologne…
and Bill Clinton didn’t have a screwed up country like we do now.
so yes, it is you who is delusional…and/or misinformed historically on this issue…
and by the way Biden is on the conference call with Obama and Susan Rice as well as representing him at that conference today.
It’s Biden.

just so you know because you I think missed the news for a day…
the plane Obama had trouble with was a loaner from Hillary.
when that was discovered…lots of people had questions…only humna nature.
Hillary unfortunately whether you like her or don’t has a rep for a weirdly long list of associates and witnesses that died weird deaths…
I am not syaing she had anything to do with it…but yeah…that is going to make a lot of people (as was proven with the plane stuff)…a lot of people go “hmmm”
and will be problematic for a vp choice…
I am not saying that to eliminate her…it is what it is.

Claire McCaskill is a joke. I hope Obama picks her.

Posted by: OxyCon | July 14, 2008, 1:10 pm 1:10 pm

Respect and support for Senator Obama is eroding every day because MSM is finally showing some of his true colors. Senator McCain will win in November regardless of Obama’s VP selection. Senator Obama lacks maturity, intergity, judgment and experience. He can’t be trusted on his policies stance; he changes his mind with the weather.

Carly F. did a terrible job when she was with HP, that’s why she got canned. Also, McCaskill really got the better of Carly during their Sunday morning appearance on “Meet the Press”. I really don’t think that the VP spot is going to make that much difference. I see Obama pulling away as we get closer to the election. mc-more-war just has too many negatives. I coundn’t believe he confused the Steelers with the Packers last week. Obama 2008!!!

Posted by: pt | July 14, 2008, 1:27 pm 1:27 pm

Obama is doing fine. It is July, only political junkies are paying much attention. He is going to win. McCain is going to lose the debates and the election. I have not met a single person enthusiastic about McCain. How in the heck could you be?

Posted by: billy smith | July 14, 2008, 1:53 pm 1:53 pm

“Carly F. did a terrible job when she was with HP, that’s why she got canned”
No she didn’t. She fought the board and they ousted her. Her decisions are the reason HP returned to profitability and stayed there. The board was subsequently involved in a scandal over pretexting.

Posted by: len | July 14, 2008, 2:30 pm 2:30 pm

len
you obviously didn’t watch her the past week
if the facts don’t win her an argument she foolishly just goes off them.
even McCain realizes this.
and yes …she was hated at HP …go read the 101 reports that talk about how much she was hated …not only by the board “but her throw anyone under the bus that got in her way”…left her seemingly a single person on her side when she left.
and she didn’t do better than McCaskill…she looked bad this weekend… the vouchers…the wealthy tax cuts…the numbers she pulled out of her butt that aren’t real…
turn the volume up on your tv…please.

Posted by: dl | July 14, 2008, 2:44 pm 2:44 pm

It’s pretty obvious McCaskill is near the top of the list to be Obama’s VP. Obama always has gushing praise for McCaskill when they are with each other. Those 2 get along great with each other and could govern together very comfortably.

Posted by: Mike | July 14, 2008, 3:13 pm 3:13 pm

@dl: I agree Fiorina was hated at HP. She also turned the company around for the shareholders and that was her job. After the Dunn scandal, there was also remorse for the campaign against Fiorina because Carly was ultimately proven right about Compaq.
McCaskill didn’t present better numbers than Fiorina. Fiorina did a better job presenting them. What I said was she played the game well for an amateur (non-politician). And frankly, that is what we get from Obama too, so there is a delicious irony in Carly being the one to spar as McCain’s surrogate.
Admit it. Obama doesn’t work well with blondes.

Posted by: len | July 14, 2008, 3:16 pm 3:16 pm

len I don’t know what Obama working well with blondes means…
but Fiorina was good at chopping heads and standing on the”shoulders of others” as one reporter put it…
she stunk on Meet the Press…McCaskill didnot even need to say much…as it was Brokaw was flabbergasted at how wrong some of her answers were…
c’mon turn up your tv…and read who is getting trashed for their missteps on the show…one guess…your love, Carly…
she’s bad at this…she’s good at acting angry or good at having an edge to her… that’s not strength when she keeps making things up or pulling out arguments that don’t even go with McCain’s platform.
she’s really bad at this…her arguments aren’t founded in facts… Obama grounds every argument he has…
she tries to do it with a foundation built half on things that she creates in the middle of an argument.
it’s a joke.
and lots o’ people don’t give her the credit you say she deserves…mainly because they were THERE.
look up the people who were involved with those companies and what they say…not good things about Carly Fiorina.

Posted by: dl | July 14, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm

Do some thinking before pushing for Hillary as VP.
If you like Hillary, consider that a Senator has real power, while the VP is just a servant of the President.
If you don’t like her, consider that VP is in line for the Presidency, and there are 18 million unhappy HIllary supporters out there, 9 million of them so unhappy that they refuse to even vote for Obama in November.
Some of them may be attracted by HIllary as VP — but others are disgusted with the idea of her giving up her own Senate career (and her chance to run in 2012) to iron Obama’s shirt for 4 or 8 years, so they will work harder against an Obama/Clinton ticket than an Obama/anyone. (After Obama’s term/s end, what would HIllary do? Try to oust whatever Democrat has taken her Senate seat? She wouldn’t do that.)
If you think all her supporters will eventually ‘get over it’ or ‘fall in line’ — why bother putting her on the ticket, which will offend many of Obama’s supporters.

Posted by: the patriot | July 15, 2008, 8:09 am 8:09 am

hmmm
I am not saying it to eliminate her the reaction to Obama’s plane and it being a “loaner” from the Clinton campaign caused people …right or wrong… to make an association that is there…as whacked as it may be…
that doesn’t speak well for Clinton being VP.
It’s not to “eliminate her” from contention…just stating a fact that is probably why she already is eliminated from contention.
Me saying it doesn’t change that. It was already there. You can’t have a VP who people’s first thought anytime something happens to the candidate that she has something to do with it…
and that was the case when the plane was discovered to be one she was using.
Unfotunately.

Posted by: dl | July 15, 2008, 11:23 am 11:23 am

dl,
As a strong Hillary supporter, I sadly agree. Even without the other reasons against Obama/Clinton, there are too many crazy people who would see the line of succession and think assassination. Obama should choose a VP who has been acting more like his understudy and personal assistant — which is what the VP job really is — than like a rival. Sibelius or McCaskill would be compatible, or Caroline Kennedy.
