Breaking Bread in Ramallah
EmailA couple interesting details from Sen. Barack Obama’s trip to the West Bank on Tuesday.
According to senior advisers to the campaign, Obama told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad that they should continue the peace process started at Annapolis, and that should Obama be elected president, he wouldn’t expect a whole new process to begin. They should keep plugging away, he said, all the hard work would NOT be for naught despite the pending end of the Bush presidency.
Abbas presented the senator and the group with “Obama bread,” a concoction created by Ramallah baker Nasir Abdul Hadi that combines cherry tomatoes, basil leaves and cheese. Obama did partake of the bread.
“It was really good,” says Dennis Ross, a former Mideast peace negotiator who accompanied Obama to the West Bank.

Hopefully, the bread will be broken again during a brokering for Middle East peace.

I have noticed that during Obama’s speech and press conferences have made clear his intention to listen and that he can take strong stances on important issues.

McCain made a very similar trip in March 2008, which no one seems to remember. He met with many of the same leaders. In response to a question from reporter about Iraq, McCain said he would have done things different from Bush. It was a political response. There are articles on the Internet saying his entire trip was political, yet MSM have not mentioned McCain’s trip while looking for fault in everything Obama does.

the war on terror will be lost if we stick with Bush’s direction and vote for Mccain…
the war on terror isn’t won by threatening joking comeing from a President who does not know diplomacy well enough but seems easily moved to make a joke about bombing another country.

No one thinks Obama is a rock star.
What exactly do you need to be ready for the presidency?
If it’s being a POW, then we have a couple thousand men in this country who should be running.
Otherwise, you have to know the LAW, and be willing to listen.
Those two pesky little things we seem to have forgotten in the last 8 years.

Without a doubt Obama has the character and intelligence to lead our nation. Those who doubt his leadership seem to be afraid of someone who knows how to build coalitions, partnerships and peace. Why would one consider continued war with no strategy for building peace?

Other than maybe a General of two, did Obama shake a hand of any soldier in Iraq while he was there and thank them for the job that they are doing? I haven’t seen any pics or read any reports. Guess it was more important to talk about vacations.

I have never felt so diappointed in both republican and democratic nomoniees as I have this election. I fear that Bush left us in a state that we will accept just any old body to replace him and that is just scary.

It’s ashame that Obama didn’t STAY over there permanently! I think that would have just wonderful! I can’t stand the man! He’s all talk! And, the Democratic part may have been able to force him down our throats in the primary but they won’t be able to do that in the general election. Many of us Hillary supporters are working for McCain and voting or McCain. The Democratic party is getting a big wake up call in November. And, if they don’t smarten up we are actually going to register Republican and vote straight Republican until they do. I hope they all enjoy reading this over their morning coffee!
