Kaine on Obama’s VP List: ‘I’m Not Running for It. I’m Not Asking For It’

ABC News’ Tahman Bradley, Teddy Davis and Ayana Harry report: Virginia Governor Tim Kaine downplayed speculation Tuesday that he is on Sen. Barack Obama’s list of potential vice-presidential candidates. "I haven’t sought  it, I’m not running for it, I’m not asking for it," Kaine told a crowd of reporters in Washington, DC who waited for him to finish an interview with WTOP radio.  Rumors about whether Obama will choose the Virginia governor as his running mate swelled Tuesday after the Washington Post reported Kaine told unspecified "close associates" that he has had "very serious" conversations with Obama about joining him on the 2008 Democratic ticket. He has also provided documents to the campaign as they check his background, the Washington Post reported Tuesday. ABC’s Jan Crawford Greenburg has also put Kaine on Obama’s "very short list." After his interview with WTOP, Kaine was greeted by a swarm of reporters asking whether he told friends that he’s talking with Obama about being a vice-presidential candidate. "My conversations with the campaign stay with the campaign," Kaine said, adding that he did not meet with Obama today and is not planning to do so. Obama is in Washington DC Tuesday for meetings. However Kaine joked that news reports that he is on Obama’s list of candidates are making his mother happy. "My mom loves seeing me on the lists, that’s fun for her," he said. Reporters have begun to track the movement of potential vice-presidential picks carefully. During Kaine’s interview with WTOP Radio in Washington, D.C., he indicated that he has a private event planned with his daughter later Tuesday. A Kaine aide tells ABC News that the Obama vice-presidential prospect is headed to Chincoteague Island, Va., on Tuesday in order to be there for Wednesday’s annual Chincoteague Pony Swim with daughter Annella. The pony swim is expected to take place on Wednesday between 7:00 am – 9:00 am ET. With Kaine slated to spend the rest of Tuesday and most of Wednesday on the island, speculation is swirling as to whether he will be engaged in any VP-related talks or briefings.  On Thursday, Kaine is scheduled to be back in Richmond for a 9:00 am ET radio interview with WRVA in Richmond, Va.

If you knew anything about the Electoral College, you would not be calling this one nearly so early.
This is an unlosable election for any Democratic nominee, not to mention one this politically adept.

Daniel, Daniel, Daniel…it’s 2008, and no matter how hard you close your eyes and pray that this doesn’t happen, it’s GOING to happen. The world as you know it has passed. Now my recommendation is that you embrace it or just kill yourself. Either way, I doubt anyone would care!!

Just a coincidence that he has the same sounding name as the GOP candidate – Senator John McCain! Indecisive Obama brings out a new VP name weeks short of the convention but I doubt he will announce his choice until the convention. This is just another diversionary tactic by the DNC for their candidate to avoid discussion of the issues and solutions. Hillary met all his stated pre-reqs for the job, but seems no interest in her except for her to continue her campaign efforts for him.

All you Barack bashers, admit it, its over. You refer to the USA/gallup poll. That is only likely voters which means they disregarded all first time voters and young people. They will be mostly voting for Obama. Look at the Gallup Daily poll, Obama is up 48 – 40. If kaine is picked as the VP, Virginia will vote Democrat. Look at the individual states, Obama will be your new president.

Even the anti-Obama people are running out of things to whine about as seen by these tired posts. This would be a good pick from what I see. McCain offers nothing but complaints as he runs to the right and he is seeing how out of touch he is with reality. Even Bush is moving towards the Obama (and all smart people’s) foreign policy. McCain would rather say that his talk of more drilling caused the recent drop in fuel prices!? Seriously John, did you take Econ 101? He puts out tv spots saying Obama didn’t hold Afghanistan hearings in his subcommittee which is true because they were held in full committee. And he had a stuttering/bumbling response when confronted with the fact that he never attended ANY Afghanistan hearings in his own committee. Last summer he oversaw the bankruptcy of his campaign which had to be bailed out by DC lobbyists who still control it. These are not exactly the qualities I am looking for in the next president.

=-======================================
Obama was virtually an unknown name in American politics. Him and his team were able to run a better campaign and caused the greatest political upset in history by beating the clintons(bill, hillary and chelsea).
Again, Obama and his team have shown superior judgment over McCain`s so called foreign policy experience on
1. the iraq war
2. negotistion with Iran
3. the need to focus on Afghanistan
4. Iraq withdrawal plan
Now Bush is listening to Obama`s proposal on these issues and McCain has also started endorsing these proposals.
McCain economic policies are 95% insupport of Bush which have been nothing but failure. McCain has experience but is offering the same failed Bush policies which has brought the country to its lowest since WW2.
Now America is borrowing money from communist China to fight in Iraq. Can you imagine.
This is superior judgment which Obama holds over McCain.

And it came to pass that the national
anthem was played and the Child savior placed his hands over the wrong place. Some wanted to stone him, but his followers rose up and said “ye who have not fondeled yourself, cast the first stone”. Thus he was spared and he traveled the land, speaking to the crowds while often raising his head heavenward, as tho getting cues. And ya tho he walketh in the shadow of Wright, he prevailith. So to speak.

Poor Obama seems to think the more people he gives VP looks to, the more support he is building in the Democrtic Party. recall that he is the Dem candidate only because he was chosen by the super delegates. If Jan Crawford Greenberg (not a journalist, but a law school graduate who`s reporting on Supreme Court decisions leaves much to be desired) touts Kaine, you can bet it won`t be him. The other day she was touting Caroline Kennedy! She might inadvertantly have something there, though. Caroline is less experienced than Obama and so won`t out shine Obama there though her star power does. Obama may also see it as a sop to all the Democrat woman he has been tantalizing with fake consideration. Also, think of the staggering historical implications of accepting his Party`s nomination some forty years TO THE DAY of MLK`s I have a dream speech while holding hands with a Kennedy running mate! And Chris Matthews thought the shiver up his leg just hearing Obama speak was something.

We’ll see who’s laughing in November Steve. Polls don’t tell how sick and tired people are of Republicans screwing things up. I find it funny that none of you so-called right wingers are talking about the great job George W. is doing…
Here’s a sitting President and none of you are saying anything about him. The democrats talked about Clinton until he left office, why? Because everyone was doing better than they were before he took office; Can you say that about Bush? I didn’t think so.
IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE. It’s amazing to me how people like you can’t see that.

Posted by: voter100 | July 29, 2008, 1:50 pm 1:50 pm

Here is the bottem line…The American people are going to vote for the one they trust…And most American’s do not trust Obama….They know McCain and McCain is not Bush for the ones out there that like to say this ….People have looked at Obama’s past and who he has chosen to be associated with and now says he hasn’t or doesn’t…Put the truth is all out for people to see for themself if they want to get it….Obama lied about how much money he got from Rezko and then when the truth came out he lied again about how much money he got from him…So this shows me that Obama is not a honest man …And a man is only as good as his word….And Obama has not kept his and has lied about many things….

PCC: “The American people are going to vote for the one they trust.”
Obama’s background, values, and experience are not in his favor, according to the poll just completed by NBC and the Wall Street Journal. The poll shows McCain to be more trustworthy, however he has the Bush millstone around his neck. Looks like it’s coming down to who you trust most vs support of blacks, the younger crowd who think Obama is hip and cool, and the women who favor Obamas youthful charisma, the latter shown as a factor in the poll. Substance and character vs race and charisma.

My bet will be it not McBush.

McCain is promising another war with Iran instead of doing the right thing by talking to them. Iran is the 4th largest oil producer and Mccain is out of touch with the implication on oil prices.
Very bad judgment from someone claiming to have foreign policy experience.
McCain is promising the same bush policies which have failed and havent made us any safer.
If i have to chose between a war monger(McCain) and a diplomat(Obama) I`d rather chose the diplomat because i cannot trust the warmonger who plays on peoples` fear to win votes.

The Democrats are just doing the same thing the Republicans did for George Bush. Pull everything out of the hat to make Republicans look bad (like the phony Swift Boat ad against Kerry). Republicans did this to put a phony inexperienced immature know it all arrogant useless George Bush in office.
The Democrats are doing the same thing with Obama pushing to put a phony inexperienced immature know it all arrogant useless media made black man in office. Obama is just as immature and inexperienced as George Bush and he is just as dangerous to this country. We need a person with experience, at least some humility, to recognize this country is in deep trouble and have the strength to do something about it. We don’t need another know it all immature man that believes all the greatness hype the media spews at him. I don’t care if that person is a Democrat or Republican as long as they have the capability to know they are not a God but put in office to do something good for this country for a change. So far, McCain is the best bet we have, that’s not saying a lot, but the man at least has a fair amount of humility and maturity that adds up to more strength than arrogance does. Too bad neither party put their best up as a candidate. I’ll take the lesser of two evils and looks like that is McCain.

Whoever Senator Obama picks as his VP, it will be someone that doesn’t have more expeience or better judgement than he has. He has to remain with the halo around his head. His ego would not allow a really intelligent and experienced person to show him up. He has to be THE ONE.

Posted by: Mary | July 29, 2008, 3:23 pm 3:23 pm

Hey Steve not sure where you got your information on the Gallup poll but today’s Gallup (7/29/08) has Obama up +6. 47% for Obama and 41% for McCain. A slight change from the last poll of 48% Obama and 40% McCain…well within the margin of error I’m sure. So basically no change. The Republicans have some problems coming in November and it’s not just the race for the White House they have to be worried about. The Dems stand to win seats in both the House and Senate that are currently controlled by Republicans.

I feel George Bush has been a let down–and I am a die hard Republican. But at least I can admit it–which is what the demcrats are going to have to do once flip flopping Obama is Pres. He will be as big or bigger disappointment as Bush has been for the Republicans. We need to stand up as Americans and change the 2 choices we have. Neither are worth a damn. McCain is definitely the lesser of 2 evils–but, he really is too old. And Obama–I can’t believe anything he says–and his wife scares me even more.

To those BHO supporters, who think Hillary supporters need to get onboard the BHO train. Polls show BHO has a good chance to win, but he won’t get my vote if the election is today. Hill supporters have accepted that she is not the DNC nominee for president, and we will vote for who in our opinion is the next best candidate to lead this country, including who we think will be better to get us out of Iraq and Afghanistan. McCain has the executive leadership qualities and is upfront, not ever-changing. As a registered Democrat, I am free to choose the best candidate for President. Yes, we can, and Yes we will for McCain in 2008. Maybe in 2012.

billy bob, in case you haven’t noticed, the republicans has already ran the country in the ground. How you can defend incompetence like the current administration is beyond me.
I don’t know about you but I was doing much better financially when Clinton was in the white than I am now.

A fool is the one who looks at facts and chooses to ignore them. Only a fool would spin facts to support their position instead of admitting they made a mistake. The biggest fools of all are the ones that follow the fool without questioning why. Can you think of a fool who has not admitted his mistake but tried to spin it to make him look like he was right. Just think about Iraq and Dont be a fool.

Im still voting to punish the democrats for the next three elections

Posted by: saddened | July 29, 2008, 4:23 pm 4:23 pm

You know that ignorant statement that if you vote for McCain it means you agree with how Bush has run the country is getting pretty tiring. Can we say if you vote for Obama then you agree with how Carter ran the country? Will Obama do everything just like Bill? Did Bush do everything like Reagan? Hell no! Everyone is different. Look at their individual records and experience.

Posted by: Ex-Dem | July 29, 2008, 4:29 pm 4:29 pm

Obama has no experience and no integrity. He was disgeneous when he said that he would discuss with McCain about campaign money before Obama won the primaries. Obama now has shown his true color of going back on his words about using public funds. Are you Obamaties still going to vote for him no matter what? Ayers? Slumlord? Columbia English Professor who bombed US? A wife that was not proud for the past 25 years of America (“my entire adult life” and she is 43) until her husband is ready to be elevated?
I am a Democrat that will never vote for someone like Obama. He is a disgrace to the Democratic party, and the Americans.

Posted by: Jen | July 29, 2008, 4:47 pm 4:47 pm

Why would anyone want to be Obama’s VP? If anything ever went wrong, he would be the first to be thrown under the bus.

Posted by: ragnar30066 | July 29, 2008, 4:59 pm 4:59 pm

The current VP wasn’t thrown under the bus!

billy bob:
are you now suggesting that you have become vulnerable?

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 5:28 pm 5:28 pm

shalome, not at all, i think Obama will get elected and the funny thing is that who will you guys blame when he turns out like every other politician? You are setting yourself up for a big let down.

billy bob:
so who ya voting for billy? Senator Trent Lott and Rush Limbaugh is running…

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 5:32 pm 5:32 pm

shalome, I always vote for experience and substance over rhetoric.

Posted by: billy bob | July 29, 2008, 5:33 pm 5:33 pm

Shalom,
I had no obligation to teach you how to behave in a blog like this but I took the time to try to talk some sense into you such as avoiding name calling. I am disappointed to see you furthering your name calling to a capital “SIMPLY STUPID”. The supporters of Obama reflect on his own behaviors. This is not a good news for this country.

Posted by: Mike | July 29, 2008, 5:35 pm 5:35 pm

Thanks Mike for speaking up for us Democrats who will not just follow Obama like Zombies. I am an American before I am a Democrat. If Obama is better than, or even equal to, McCain, I would have voted for Obama. But with such a shady character Obama is, I can not in my right conscience vote for him.

Posted by: Jen | July 29, 2008, 5:38 pm 5:38 pm

Jen, according to shalom it is a sin to not vote for Obama, be careful. LOL

Posted by: billy bob | July 29, 2008, 5:42 pm 5:42 pm

When people resort to, “President Obama, has a nice ring to it doesn’t it”. You have got to worry about this country and the one that will be elected. Billy Bob, you might be surprised there are many of us who refuse to drink Cool-Aid. We will not vote for Obama. I am a University Professor. Every colleague I know is against Obama. I can’t stop street homeless from voting for him, since he preaches HOPE. I know how crushed they all will become when they find out Obama is nothing but a dirty politician. There should be enough indiction from his slumlord friend’s donation to him already. Billy Bob, don’t give up. Obama will lose.

Posted by: Mike | July 29, 2008, 5:45 pm 5:45 pm

Pcc, I have no idea what Obama did and didn’t do after 911 just as I have no idea what McCain did. And really why should this matter what either one of them did.

Posted by: erin | July 29, 2008, 5:52 pm 5:52 pm

Mike:
Keep in mind this concept: God loves sinners, but He hates the sins we commit….
I am speaking of the comments folks are making that are stupid…..You do not need to teach me anything, bud….
Certain comments that are being made about senator Obama are really dumb and stupid……How many ways do I have to explain this to you?

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 5:55 pm 5:55 pm

When I hear people say Obama will lose, McCain will lose, I can’t help but wonder where I can get a crystal ball like that.

Posted by: erin | July 29, 2008, 5:58 pm 5:58 pm

Mike:
Your acknowledgement about being a college professor speaks volumes of my perception of you. I do not care what your profession is.
You and your billy bob buddies can vote for bugs bunny if you like….
Senator Obama will be president….

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 5:59 pm 5:59 pm

billy bob:
then vote for me

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 6:00 pm 6:00 pm

Shalom is using intimidation to coerce people into voting for Obama. Obama has to resort to that? I question his faith, experience, and integrity. This is not the person to be an American President. Empty shell.

Posted by: Jen | July 29, 2008, 6:02 pm 6:02 pm

Mike:
are you a college professor at Bob Jones University?

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 6:04 pm 6:04 pm

billy bob, What is it about my post that offended you and led you to believe that I am a racist? Chances are Rosbu41 is a white racist, don’t you think? My comments were directed at him and other white racist! Try to keep up my friend, if the shoe fits you also, then wear it because I would be talking to you just like I was talking to Rosbu41. As far as me being a racist, far from it. Maybe I should have given a little more information about my back ground, not that I have to explain but I will just for fun. I am biracial myself, half white and half black, my wife is White, I have a daughter that is as white and is whiter then you I would bet. She has blue eyes and blond hair and my son is damn their white and my wife and kids are all beautiful. Not to mention half of my family are lilly white, and I mean that in a playful affectionate way. So I think I can be just a little bit more free with my thoughts being that I am white and black. But, being that Rosbu41, is no longer own and you were so interested in my post you are more then welcome to debunk the real information that was important.

Did everyone see what Shalom wrote? OMG!
“You and your billy bob buddies can vote for bugs bunny if you like….”
Then she wrote,
“then vote for me”.
Two postings, back to back, oh the most hilarious thing after Obama’s asking guarding against pride, then making the world know that’s what he prayed about.

Posted by: Jen | July 29, 2008, 6:06 pm 6:06 pm

Jen,
Absolutely. Let those uneducated rattle along, they will always shoot themselves in the foot.

Orlando B. Fremont Ohio:
Way to go in tellin that billy bob……
One thing America and the world must understand:
If people don’t learn to live together as brothers and sisters, they shall all perish together as fools…MLK

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 6:09 pm 6:09 pm

Mike:
Way to go Mike…….After telling the world that you are a college professor, you have the audacity to refer to people as uneducated on this post.
You need some serious help……really, you do…..

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 6:12 pm 6:12 pm

I do feel sorry for those uneduated. What make them believe that Obama, an admitted elitist when giving a speech in San Francisco, will be on their side. Obama could have refused Tony Rezko’s donation on the grounds of slumlord money but Obama took it anyway. That along ought to tell Shalom and the like that Obama is in for the money, not the principles.

Jen:
I like bugs bunny….don’t you?

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 6:13 pm 6:13 pm

Shalom,
Let me see if I can try to help you one more time. I did not call all the people in this blog uneducated, I called some of the people, like yourself, uneducated. I don’t see how it conflicts with the fact that I teach in a university. Should I not know some people are uneducated because I am teaching in a university? Or should I be more aware of the education issues in this country? I tend to think it’s the latter. Wouldn’t you say?

Posted by: Mike | July 29, 2008, 6:19 pm 6:19 pm

Jen:
Do you know anyone who serves as one of the United States senators and is not in the class of the elites? Come on now……
We have 100 United States senators. Senator Obama is the only sitting African American who is a United States senator.
In fact, that probably will make some folks happy after he becomes president…….This country will no longer have an African American in the elite club of the United States Senate…..So, yes, he is an elite…
I want the president to be an elite….What’s wrong with that? Now, if you don’t want your president to be from the elite in this society, then vote for me….or bugs bunny….Well, busie may also be elite…Just vote for whoever you want to….

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 6:20 pm 6:20 pm

A President DOES NOT need VP with any compulsory quality besides the one of being ready to take over as President!
A President can select a Cabinet loaded with Foreign Policy, Military, etc experts as aides.
Daily the morons in the media prove just how dumb they really are by keep yapping about ‘foreign policy credentials for a VP. lol

Posted by: Patriot | July 29, 2008, 6:20 pm 6:20 pm

Shalom, Amen! All I can say is I agree with you 100%. We all have to start learning to talk to each other despite our differences and stop talking at each other because no one hears anything. I have to admit I am gulity of shouting myself but the reality is it gets you no where. Amen! Gotta run people, my white Lily kids want to go swimming. LOL! Obama08/16

Mike,
You are such a patient teacher that I have no doubt that your instint is to teach the unteachables. Shalom is not worth the effort. Obsessed with the fantasy, and scolding everyone that’s not buying into his/her wild imaginations.

Posted by: Jen | July 29, 2008, 6:22 pm 6:22 pm

Mike:
I do not have to prove to you or anyone my level of education. I am an educated person. I am uneducated in certain areas; and you are absolutely uneducatated in plenty of areas. In fact, your comments suggest to me that you are in need of help….May I help you?

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 6:24 pm 6:24 pm

Jen:
Orlando’s comments agreeing with me 100% offsets any nonsense you and Mike are saying…..smile

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 6:26 pm 6:26 pm

Shalom,
For no reason at all, you said that I needed “serious help”. Mike stepped in to teach you some etiquetts now he needs help. Scroll up to see how many you have been calling “needing help” all day. This is getting very old. Why don’t you get off line and drink some more kool-aid and pass out. So we can have more mature discussions without you. Okay, dear?

Posted by: Jen | July 29, 2008, 6:28 pm 6:28 pm

Jen,
Look at Shalom uses Orlando to justify herself…She has severe problem understanding a normal adult conversation. I gave up. I wish she would not vote. This is just wrong.

Jen:
with your presumptuous disposition pertaining to my gender……how do you know shalom is a “she?”

Posted by: shalom | July 29, 2008, 6:35 pm 6:35 pm

People like Jen and Mike claim to be educated but like to belittle people that don’t agree with their assessment of Obama. Of course they think they’re right because they are “educated”. Maybe so , but you have shown to have no class by the way you treat others.

Posted by: ll | July 29, 2008, 6:37 pm 6:37 pm

Jen:
I will not sit there and not respond to all your negative and hateful comments concerning senator Obama…Those comments are not right…..
Something is wrong when you sit there say the man has no experience….Something is wrong somewhere Jen when you say such a silly thing…..
Something is out of balance when you use your fingers and say the man has no integrity….Something has gone awry somewhere my friend.
This man left Harvard Law school and went to the tough streets on the south side of Chicago to work as a civil rights attorney, and you got the nerve to say he has no integrity…
Something went wrong somewhere in your thinking to communicate such nonsense….

Page 1
Some of us have not been privileged to have lived during the JFK days but from what I’ve heard and what I’ve read and seen, Barack Obama represents the future of American politics that JFK envisioned. Unfortunately people like JFK, Rev. Martin Luther King, and yes even Malcom X were taken away from us by the same hateful mentality that threatens to keep us divided now. Barack Obama is a brilliant man capable of bringing the American people together and people all over the world if WE SO CHOSE TO DO SO! That is why SOME of you racist are so mad, a black man is going to attempt do something no American president has been able to do, and that is bridge that racial divide between white, black and brown folks that has separated us for so long. You self hating brown and black people and white racist seem to love to use the excuse, that the reason you will not vote for Sen.Obama is because he does not have enough experience, he a elitist/ code words meaning he is a uppity n!gger or he hasn’t been in the Senate long enough or the really tired excuses you white racist Pumas and self hating brown and black Pumas love to use is that Barack Obama, and the DNC stole the Primary Election from little miss poor Hillary Clinton. The real reason is that Sen Obama is a black man, that showed the intelligence and intellect that it takes to govern this great country we call America. As far as Hillary, she may be a racist she may not be, I don’t know. What I can say is that with certainty is that Hillary and Bill tried to exploit white people and black people with the race card in order to get votes and win the Primaries. How sad! Maybe Obama used race to his advantage too, if he did, which I don’t think he did, then he did a good job hiding it but Hillary Clinton made it clear to the ear in Pennsylvania, West Virgina and Kentucky the she had no problem using race to win the primarys against Sen Barack Obama. Talk about your Karol Rove tactics!
