Hey, the leftist media has been helping the Democrat candidates for the last 40 years and where has it gotten them. They won maybe three or four elections in that time. True, they are going above and beyond in this election, but it probably won't hurt McCain. People see the bias and want nothing to do with it. Dan Rather's forged documents actually helped Bush, they didn't hurt him.

I consider myself a conservative and tend to lean towards the Republican but I am not a party member.----- NY Times did not surprised me for their bias against the Republican. NY Times was also known lately for publishing articles against candidates with out the facts to back up their story. They are no longer a credible source of factual news.

Most of these comments don't even make sense. Most, if not all who commented need suckling at the teat.

@Lydia: The idea not Senator McCain has given few distinct details, in NO way reflects his repeated desire to see military personnel levels drop, as conditions dictate. In fact, these levels will most likely drop well before the next President takes office.
To say that, because there are lack of specifics, this means there is a hidden specific objective, is specious logic.
It doesn't follow, and it contradicts what McCain has stated. That you choose to believe the exact opposite of Senator McCain's intentions, is just that, a choice, but it doesn't make your assertion true.

After reading the above posts I am surprised at many Republicans attitude of letting McCain off the hook for giving no details of what success and our troop pull-out would entail.
We are occupying another country. They have a working, democratically chosen government. They want us gone in 16 months. That's it, we go, unless we are occupying their country and are no longer there to stabilize it. We, as a democracy, must respect their democratically-elected government. As for McCain not giving details, it is because he has no intention of pulling our troops out, just as Bush has given us few details and has built many permanent bases for our troops against the will of the Iraq government.

Good for the New York Times to refuse to publish a piece by McCain that is devoid of any details of when the U.S. troops can leave Iraq. We have been hearing the same b.s. from Bush for 4 years, that conditions aren't right yet without giving specific details. And amy thanks for posting McCain's rejected piece. McCain not only didn't give any details of his plans, he gave all the credit for the recent success in Iraq to solely the surge, which was in just one part of the country. He doesn't give any credit to the Iraq government for negotiating with different groups to stop fighting with each other, which has greatly reduced the violence. He doesn't give credence to the Iraq government that we must leave when they say so, it is their country, unless we've become occupiers.
It would be excellent if all printed media demanded this litmus test of politicians and political 'experts' before they could publish. Give the details, and back them up with facts.
