MoveOn Ad Uses Humor on MTV, Comedy Central

ABC News’ James Gerber Reports: The liberal political action group MoveOn.org has released a new television ad aimed at increasing youth turnout and mobilizing young voters around the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

The pro-Obama spot, titled "It Could Happen To You," was named the funniest video in the organization’s recent "Obama in 30 Seconds" ad contest and will air for a week starting Wednesday, July 30 on MTV and Comedy Central.

The ad, produced by former "Boy Meets World" star Rider Strong, is styled like a public health spot.  "I never thought it could happen to me," begins a young man.  "This could happen to anybody," relates another.  What, exactly, have these young adults contracted?

"Hope."

Watch the ad here.

MoveOn will spend $150,000 to run the ad on the two cable stations.

The ad is in part a response to the airing of an anti-Obama ad by conservative group Let Freedom Ring on MTV last week.  Titled "Both Ways Barack," the attack ad accused Obama of what it calls a history of taking opposing positions on the same issue.  It was the first the political ad to air on MTV in the station’s 27-year history, running for three days on MTV, as well as VH1, MSNBC, CNN and Fox News.

I wish McCain would make an ad showing how Obama got his not-impressive start in politics. By hiring some lawyers and bullying everyone running against him off the ballot by questioning petition signatures. Yes, he got admired civil rights activist Alice Palmer thrown off the ballot.
Why? Because he knew he couldn’t beat her any other way.
Is this the kind of guy we want in the White House? No.
President McCain – get use to it. Besides, he runs for elected office the old fashioned way. WITHOUT bullying laweyers.

Obama, the self-proclaimed “King of the World” who feels he is higher than God Almighty thinks that every American should adhere to his every beckoning call. Here’s a news flash! McCain is still gaining in the polls, even after your world “rock” tour, and you are continuing to fall in the polls. Your campaign is imploding and I’m loving it! Keep up the good work, Obama! We, Americans, love to watch you FAIL!!!!

Posted by: Jane in Chicago | July 28, 2008, 5:13 pm 5:13 pm

Moveon.org is a stupid website that will tell one lie after another one. Remember, they kept saying, “General Betrayus” and now they actually think that Patreus will support Obama! They are nuts! As mentioned, it’s amazing that after all this fame and glorified media coverage, that Obama is not continuing to fall in the recent polls while McCain rises in the polls. You see, Americans aren’t buying Obama’s rhetoric with no substance. He should be called Backtrack Obama because he does not take a stand on any issue but rather, tells his listeners what they want to hear. He continues to pander all over the place. 99 days until we, Americans, get our new president, that is, President John McCain!

Mccain leads Obama 56% to 37% among Veterans:

Voters who have served in the U.S. military favor John McCain over Barack Obama by a 56% to 37% margin.
This data, from a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey, is based upon interviews with 3,000 Likely Voters, including 588 voters who have served in the military.

You republicans help me out here. I’ve lost track. Is it Monday, Wednesday, Friday that McCain is for the issues or is it even days? He changes so often I’m sure he’s having the same trouble getting it straight. Yesterday I swear I heard him say that he was BOTH for AND against a time line. Can anyone well me what days he flips from the days he flops?

McCain leads with LIKELY voters. Barack can lead all he wants with random people, but LIKELY VOTERS is what counts baby.
Even NYT liberal writer (aren’t they all?) Adam Nagourney writes and asks why isn’t Obama higher in the polls?
LOVE IT!!!

Jo, Jo, Jo…
The Obama, DNC et al voter push hasn’t even hit full stride yet, so today’s likely voters are just an Nth of what they will be come November 4th. And when the well-informed, politically astute folks replace the know-nothings that have kept Bush in office the last eight years, and would like to see McSame replace him, we’ll see an Obama landslide.
You heard it here first. McSame won’t even win Arizona!

McCain ahead in new poll
July 28, 2008 04:19 PM
While most national polls show Democrat Barack Obama with a single-digit edge over Republican John McCain, a new survey out this afternoon shows McCain surging into the lead.
The USA Today/Gallup poll has McCain ahead 49 percent to 45 percent among likely voters after picking up 10 percentage points over the last month.

HOW COME THIS HUMAN GAFFE MACHINE GET A FREE PASS.
George Mason University has done research that suggest that Obama gets twice the negative press as McCain and yet Obama is ahead in the polls.
SO I ASK AGAIN…. HOW COME THIS HUMAN GAFFE MACHINE WHO …OH BY THE WAY… SAYS IN THE BEGINNING THAT HE WOULD NOT RUN A NEGATIVE CAMPAIGN.

chattyway
you are on crack.
Obama did not snub the troops. He was with the troops during the whole trip. That ad McDumass put out was absolutely despicable. He even used the photo of Obama playing ball with the troops to say that he was not with the troops. Only some as confused as McCain could release an ad such as that. November can not get here soon enough so that this melanoma face freak can fade away.
His below the belt tactics make him look like a mean old geezer fussing about everything.

Steve,
What a babble-head type of post!!! Check out Gallup daily tracking:
July 19 – 45/43 Obama
July 20 – 45/42 Obama
July 21 – 47/41 Obama
July 22 – 45/42 Obama
July 23 – 46/42 Obama
July 24 – 45/43 Obama
July 25 – 47/41 Obama
July 26 – 48/41 Obama
July 27 – 49/40 Obama
July 28 – 48/40 Obama
That 49/45 was a USA Today poll of a smaller number of “likely” voters. Please, I just blasted Michael Medved on this same issue ON AIR today!!! I guess, if you reduce the number of samples from 2674 to 791 John McCain actually leads in a poll. Not likely to happen in “real” life. The numbers of voters, especially given the enthusiasm amongst Democrats this year, will go UP UP UP!!!

This is a very good add. Positive and uplifting. It also shows reality. In contrast RNC, 527s, and Mccain campain are fooling the voters. Everybody knows that Mccain is the worst flip flopper. They don’t have a morale right to run an add to show that Barrack is a flip flopper. Frankly speaking these RNC, 527s, and Mccain campain are thugs. They are spreading false rumors and false accusations to steal the votes of the people. But I believe this time the American people will not be deceived and this thugs will go to hell.

Reading these posts are really the highlight of my day. You Obamacons are something else! Obama is a loser and will continue to lose in the polls. With his “rock” star attitude, answer me this….why in the hell isn’t he beating McCain by a landslide now in the polls? The reason…America does not want Obama as Prez….he’s a liar, inexperienced, and waaaaay to arrogant. I love it that he just can’t seem to beat John McCain. Reminds me of the story of the tortoise and the hare……Obama being the hare…slow and steady wins the race, thank you Mr. McCain, America wants YOU for our President. Now, repeat after me, Obamacons, “Welcome, President John McCain!”

The far right has abused this country and the American public for the past 8 years. Oh, and not all Obama supporters are liberals, some of us a fed up Republicans looking for something different. The best part about it is that McCain will lose regardless of what any of you do. Whine on!

McCain = hopelessness and four more years of Bush’s failed policies.
Obama = hope and the end of Bush’s failed policies.
Any questions?

Posted by: Gary | July 29, 2008, 11:30 am 11:30 am

MoveOn’s Hope ad is irreverent hype. Mr. Obama is an liberal Ivy elitist that revealed his lifelong disconnectedness with America in his first book but has successfully generated hype surrounding a different image. Obama’s inexperience, disconnectedness, raw ambition for political power and pandering to the media is not a positive change. John McCain is a war hero from a failed war, and experienced politician with an astute track record and has embodied the character and pride of a great American throughout his career.

Theo replied:
“I’ve already had to live through that. What do you call $4.00 gas, rising energy and food prices, moron?”
The name-calling implies that you must be a Liberal.
Anyhoo… You have the Clinton administration to thank for $4 gas prices. Republicans have wanted to drill for oil domestically for decades.
Bill Clinton has only created a country that has kissed the hind parts of the Middle East while it made a target of our homeland. Clinton had three opportunities to have Osama in his clutches, but wimped out. What did we get for it? Count ‘em…TWO attacks on home soil in Manhattan, thousands of lives lost, and a nation scarred. The multi-tasker that Clinton was, don’t forget that he also sold out American small business to the folks overseas while entertaining himself in the Oval Office.
George W. had to clean up the mess against the tide of the likes of you. He smashed the Taliban, sent Al Qaida scurrying, demanded nuclear inspectors in the Middle East and Korea, and pulled a genocidal maniac out of a spider hole.
While your Obama is out high-fiving the Europeans, ignoring our wounded troops abroad, compromising national security, looking for the nearest press pool, and all but forgetting his present job of junior senator, McCain is in AMERICA, talking to AMERICANS about what they need, including whiners like yourself.
Think it’s bad now? If “Otaxama” gets in office, it’s gonna be one heck of a ride!

Posted by: StellaCa | July 30, 2008, 5:48 pm 5:48 pm

Yeah, Obama would be a great president. The way he handled himself in the senate was amazing. Senators have three options when they vote on bills: pass, fail, or present(which means you were there but had no opinion on the subject). Obama voted present 129 times. I love how our next president is a man saying he’s ready for a change but can’t even make up his mind on a state level.
