Good report. It is curious that Obama does not have the political courage to tell Israel or Iraq to tear down their walls …

Mister ambiguous strikes again. Yet his followers ignore substance and follow him through a twisty path of changes too subtle to be recognized by lemmings.

Barack Obama, tear down the walls that Michelle is trying to build!

You don’t deliver specifics of policy at a speech overseas.
The number one goal of a speech overseas right now is to get our allies back liking us.

He would is the pentagon didn’t tell him not to…and that it would be “ill advised” as it went against their protocol.

No gaffes on the trip – Landstuhl aside – and a historic speech in Berlin. It’s got to b e an A for Obama. Now we’ll see if nationalist voters get angry over it…

Mr. Obama,

Barack Hussein Obama… Superstar!
But I don’t think Andrew Lloyd Webber will write a musical stage play about him.
Is charisma all that is needed to be elected? A more important question would be “Is charisma all that is needed to RUN our country?”!

Since Barak Hussein Obama was on a personal trip in Berlin, who paid? On the war, should we get out of all of the other countries that we are stationed in? If he doesn’t like the US, please move. We are the most giving country in the world. This country is the land of opportunity, please ask if the socialist have the same opportunity?
Finally, media please report facts and not what you think the people of this country want to hear.

If he got this reception only being a candidate just think if he becomes president.I guess this will prove how many americans care about our relationship abroad.I think this should help Obama’s numbers in the polls. If it doesn’t well I guess people don’t really care. Obama is not only good for America but for our relationship with other countries as well. The real test would be to let Bush go make a speech in Germany and see the results. He can represent McCain in that aspect.

In his speech in GERMANY,Sen. Obama
should of said thease words:
“there is still a war to be won”
“defeat is one thing, disgrace is other”
“evauation will never win a war”
WISTON CHURCHHILL

It is all over the news stations. Obama DID visit the troops and the hospitals, he just did not take the news people with him. They were banned. However, yesterday, he wanted to visit the troops and the pentagon told him no. Now, how is this Obamas fault??? You people need meds… Oh wait if McCain is in office you would not be able to afford them on your own. Better think twice.

Posted by: becky | July 25, 2008, 12:31 pm 12:31 pm

Just what hard working Americans needed to see, 200,000 Germans cheering the leader and Obama blowing off the American troops. Now that’ll get ya votes!

Posted by: Pat | July 25, 2008, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm

In his speech in Germany, when BHO said we must fight terrorism together, the crowd was silent. When he said America should open our borders to anyone and everyone, there was enthusiastic applause.
Bush’s foreign policy (or lack thereof) did not MAKE enemies… it just brought them out of the closet. We had better “look homeward” and take care of what’s left of our OWN country and stop trying to buy friends everywhere else.
BHO made it very clear that open borders are a priority to him, and the Germans loved it! Do American voters feel the same way?

Posted by: Rhys | July 25, 2008, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm

I hope the bands at the concert in Germany were good because the prepared speech certainly wasn’t.

Jerry writes: “We are the most giving country in the world.”
THAT is the problem! We are hated and resented for our success. It’s human nature to despise anyone who achieves something, and this includes entire countries. People resent being “helped”, because it implies they were inadequate to do it themselves.
Americans have been disliked since the end of World War 2… since we “helped” dozens of other countries.
When will we ever learn to stay OUT of everyone else’s business. We are going down the tubes, and do you think anyone will bail US out? Not a chance.

Whenever there’s a perceived weakness in his armor, Obama goes to the big teleprompter speech with adoring crowds and lofty rhetoric. Since he delivered his keynote address at the Dem Convention in 2004 we have known he makes an excellent speech. But speeches don’t substitute for getting things done and solving problems. I judge a preacher or a prophet by his sermons, but I judge a politician by how he solves the gritty problems of the day.

Posted by: hopesprings52 | July 25, 2008, 12:41 pm 12:41 pm

All Obama accomplished yesterday was giving the people of Berlin a free concert with a platinum selling German rock group (Reamonn) and a reggae performer Patrice…..THAT’S why 200,000 turned out.
Plus, why should he stop to thank our military if there are no cameras around…..with or without cameras OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN ANR NOT VOTING OBAMA IN NOVEMBER!!!
McCAIN ALL THE WAY!!!!!

Obama’s trip really put a nail in his coffin. His gaffes were there for all to witness. Can we please arrange another trip for him ASAP?
Lol.

It was the Pentagon that blocked Mr. Obama from visiting the troops in Germany. Whether you support McCain or Obama, it’s crucial to slow down and either listen to or read the news – as much as possible. Distortions and half-truths are flying everywhere.

Bush was there, riots broke out, they had to close the streets, not much flag waving, but a bunch of flag burning, LOL!

We learned from the Pentagon last night that the visit would be viewed instead as a campaign event,” the adviser, retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott Gration, said in a statement.
“Senator Obama did not want to have a trip to see our wounded warriors perceived as a campaign event when his visit was to show his appreciation for our troops and decided instead not to go.”

Posted by: becky | July 25, 2008, 1:12 pm 1:12 pm

Jerry: Senator Obama paid for his trip to Berlin from his campaign funds. The fact that his trip was personally funded is exactly the reason the Pentagon cited for requesting he not visit the troop in Germany – he was traveling as a candidate not a Senator. I find it very disingenuous that you ask for the facts when being glaringly ignorant of them (or while deliberately implying lies).
If you want to tear down Senator Obama, attacking some point of his proposals laid out in detail on his website – far greater detail than Senator McCain has provided – would be a good way to do so.

Posted by: jhw539 | July 25, 2008, 1:12 pm 1:12 pm

MAYBE IF McCAIN AND BUSH USED BRIBE TACTICS AND GAVE FREE CONCERTS IN THE PARK BEFORE SPEECHES (70,000 IN OREGON IN MAY AND THE BERLIN PHOTO OP YESTERDAY) YOU’D SEE CROWDS TOO.
***********
YUP! Crowds of protesters!
McCain couldn’t get 200, let alone 2000. You are funny!!!
And what opening act would you choose? Lawrence Welk is dead!

Posted by: Jane Hussein | July 25, 2008, 1:15 pm 1:15 pm

Jane,
Europeans didn’t like Reagan either. You remember Reagan, don’t you? One of America’s most beloved presidents of all time.
So that tells you all you need to know.
Nice try though. But you lose again.

Posted by: Jo | July 25, 2008, 1:16 pm 1:16 pm

Just as in Oregon, Obama and his team provided a FREE concert with a VERY popular band — thus the huge crowds.
Nice try again, but some of us read.
LOL.
Next.

“On the eve of Reagan’s visit, 25,000 protesters marched through West Berlin, smashing windows and fighting police in a protest against Reagan’s international policies”
************
And those international policies gave birth to Al Qaida. Chickens, meet the roost!

hopesprings52: “Whenever there’s a perceived weakness in his armor, Obama goes to the big teleprompter speech with adoring crowds and lofty rhetoric.”
This is patently untrue. When he was in difficulty in the primaries, he became a little event extradinare – choking down beers for informal discussions with voters and letting 4 year olds bowl a frame of his game. Do you think the public is so stupid they’ll believe your lie over what they remember from only 3 months ago? Come on, try attacking his positions (well laid out in policy papers on his website, not soundbites in the media) – there are differences between him and McCain rational people can debate and disagree about.

Posted by: jhw539 | July 25, 2008, 1:18 pm 1:18 pm

geeevil,
LOLOL. Thank you! I love it!
By the way, I’m sooo glad Obama gave his speech and made the HUGE Berlin gaffe.
And everyone witnessed it – so there is no covering it up!
Even Christianne Amanpour said there was no euphoria after the speech (she was perplexed)….
Another tour for Obama please!! Lol.

Posted by: Jo | July 25, 2008, 1:18 pm 1:18 pm

The polls are out and there was no bounce for Obama. In fact, McCain has closed the gap in key states.
As I said before, when can we arrange another tour for Obama?
:)

Posted by: Jo | July 25, 2008, 1:19 pm 1:19 pm

What band will Obama book on his next speech? If he comes to my home state and hires Bruce Springsteen, even I would go! How about Hannah Montana? Then Obama & his team could claim ALL the young kids are for Obama. I see lots of possibilities for these free rock concerts, ooops, I mean Obama rallies. (wink, wink)
Lol. The truth is soooo different from the reality, ain’t it?
Live it, learn it, love it.

Posted by: Jo | July 25, 2008, 1:22 pm 1:22 pm

Jo — I just read where many of the younger people in attendance complained his speech was nothing more than a US election talk. They were indeed there for the music.

“The size of our forces was no match for the much larger Soviet Army.”
He said that? Good grief and no one laughed? Too much beer and schnitzel I guess.
McCain is right. He knows absolutely nothing about military operations. The numbers were disproportionate but so was the weaponry. Massed tank forces aren’t much good against tactical neutron weapons. It was a war no one could afford to win so no one tried. Both sides knew it was a stalemate. That was the idea.
BTW: if that is what he said, he used the same kind of scary noise the Pentagon uses to get bigger budgets. For years they told us Ivan was nine feet tall with superpowers. It turned out Ivan was four foot eight with zits.

Just shows that Germany (like America)has a whole lot of naive people–not the ones that went for the free concert, but the people going to listen to Obama.
It’s unbelievable how much power people give Obama. Who is he to deserve this?
He spent 143 days as a Senator and didn’t take a stand on anything.
It just all seems like a phony publicity stunt. The arrogance of Obama and his staff will eventually destroy him.

No Bounce? Rasmussen Daily Tracking poll: Obama 49-McCain 44(yesterday 48-45, day before 47-45, 49 is Obama’s highpoint thusfar in Rasmussen)
Gallup: 47-41(yest. 45-43). And this is just with 1 day of post speech, let’s see what the numbers are on Sunday before we start talking about no “Bounce”

Posted by: Steven | July 25, 2008, 2:16 pm 2:16 pm

Can televison media please report that Obama campaign ASKED the German rock band Reamonn and other acts to perform BEFORE his speech…..so Americans can better figure out how the Jr. Senator could get 200,000 in the park. Campaign had enough $$$ to pay for that but didn’t want to visit our military guys on campaign $$…wow.
If someone could just find out how much they paid for Reamonn and Patrice and permits for food vendors.

Posted by: Len | July 25, 2008, 2:29 pm 2:29 pm

Len, my post was pure contradiction of the Anti-Hope posters who rely on a week long, week old poll that Fox News just released as being evidence of no-bounce. The fact is, overnight there was a bounce, and as daily tracking numbers are 3 day averages, it will likely rise by Sunday(which, based off of our 24-hour news cycle, would be when any bump ends…if he sustains his lead we will see).

Posted by: Steven | July 25, 2008, 2:30 pm 2:30 pm

JakeD…It is curious that John McCain does not have the courage to be the true independent republican he was back in 2000.He supports “W” all the way. There are very few differences in what he wants to do vs. his pal George W.Bush

Forthcoming box office movie hit, a terrifying thriller, nailbiting, see the raw fear in his wee beady eyes. Yes it’s
“Teleprompterless”

Posted by: Marty | July 25, 2008, 2:39 pm 2:39 pm

B.s.meter…do you know any acts that can draw 200,000? Miley Cyrus might be able to do it. When they were still around, the Beatles might have got close. Reamonn is not some world-renowed band(how many of their songs do you know? don’t look at their Wiki entry). And did it occur to you that Bands who play at Political rallys and speeches do so For free? This crap your trying to sling was attempted after the big Portland rally that drew 75,000…and was disproved.
And the Pentago reminded Obama that any visit to the military hospital would be done as a Senator from Illinois, Obama chose not to politize the Troops, but the McCain camp attacked anyways(anybody have the draft of the email they were going to send out if Obama did go? Something along the lines of forcing a photo op on the soldiers or something?)

Posted by: Steven | July 25, 2008, 2:40 pm 2:40 pm

You guys will say anything to make yourselves feel better. Free bands vs. they just really wanted to hear the man speak because they just might like him. Reality people…

Posted by: becky | July 25, 2008, 2:41 pm 2:41 pm

Marty, McCain supporters trying to claim Obama can’t work without a teleprompter is kind of funny. This is the guy who gives greats like “Czecheslovkia” in 2008, “Iraq-Pakistan Border”, and “The surge happened before the surge was even discussed!”
of course McCain is even worse in front of a teleprompter(awkward laugh) my friends.

Posted by: Steven | July 25, 2008, 2:42 pm 2:42 pm

Trettione, you really think Obama visiting the troops wouldn’t have turned into an even bigger attack for using them as a “photo-op”? Puh-leaze. The McCain camp is in desperation mode in July, it’s kind of sad really. And he can’t even offer any ideas, all he can do is attack Obama.

Posted by: steven | July 25, 2008, 2:45 pm 2:45 pm

Obama is a marketing and PR superstar
With out all the money wasted on the marketing and PR, There is only a speech left.
Every Rock and Super Star has the same marketing and PR, that is what makes them. Mr Obama is Mr Hollywood. he has no substance or anything to back him. Just ads, speeches and marketing, At least the Rock Stars can sing. Obama comes up under the Actor side, speaking and acting.
We need a real President, Not an actor or a person Hyped up to be what they are not.
Obama needs his ego deflated a bit so he comes back down to earth.

Posted by: seah | July 25, 2008, 2:47 pm 2:47 pm

Seah, have you actually listened to anything Obama has said? I mean, really listened to it? Not a 15 second soundbite, but the whole speech? These speech was a call on Europe to do it’s part in protecting freedom. Doing it’s part in spreading technology. Doing it’s part in stopping genocide and climate change(which of course, the Germans in particular, are way ahead of us on). It wasn’t a condemnation of anyone(Bush and McCain weren’t even mentioned), he wasn’t “With me”…it was “Europe, whatever happens in America in this election, you must do your part”…it was direct to Germany, who received the support of America at it’s lowest point, and has been rebuilt into a thriving nation. And it was a general speech to all people, from everywhere, that the challeneges of the 21st century can be met, but not by America alone and not by Europe alone, but together, as one world. It wasn’t a policy speech(he’ll save those fo the States), he didn’t offer any new plans or details, and he shouldn’t have. It wasn’t about America, it was about Europe and the World working with America, no matter who is President.

steven:
“And the Pentagon reminded Obama that any visit to the military hospital would be done as a Senator from Illinois,”
SO why DIDN’T he go????
He IS a senator from Illinois…!
You can tell that from the still -unfinished housing developments begun under his watch… just about nine years ago.
You can TELL from the way his earmarks landed… with his erstwhile church ($15,000,000), with Michelle’s boss (over $1,000,000) who rewarded her with an outrageous annual raise, in Obama’s pocket…. (monies supposedly intended by Rezko to heat his broken down tenements during the reign of B O).
As for the ideas… there are better ones from McCain then there are from Obama.
John has promised a hefty award for a new kind of self-propetuating battery, provides encouragement to get going with drilling for oil… and enthusiam for windmills, and nuclear power…..
Obama is too busy campaigning to come up with any new an viable solutions….despite his team of 300 advisors.
McCain definitely doesn’t have the glitz that Obama blinds with.
But he has been reelected to Congress, has served honorably in the military,
has reached across the aisle to work with both democrats and republicans, and unless something happens and Hillary becomes the nominee… will get my vote!

Questioner, unless you are insisting that Obama fly back to America on his campaign plane, then fly back to Germany as part of a Congressional Delegation(and with his Senate Staff opposed to his Campaign Staff) and then go to the Military Base, you obviously don’t understand the difference between a Senate visit and a campaign visit. His trip to Iraq was a Senate visit(which is why he visited with the troops, including a private moment at a military hospital), once he left Iraq on his Campaign plane and with his campaign staff it became a Campaign trip, and any visit to a military hospital would have been viewed as a political visit, not a senate visit.

Steven:
“His trip to Iraq was a Senate visit(which is why he visited with the troops, including a private moment at a military hospital)”….
You’re not talking about THIS visit, are you?
The one where many soldiers were more than a tad perturbed that they got short shrift and the cold soldier from B O?
Was there ANOTHER visit to Iraq that was made by him… possibly as a shape shifter in the guise of Stewart Little?
And he actually visited the troops in hospitals?
WOW! Are we getting conflicting stories here!
The trip YOU describe… sounds like a senate trip..
The trip as described by “the media” is a horse of a different color…..
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Troops are not a photo op
Again, Sen. Barack Obama reveals his true colors when he lied about what the Pentagon told him prior to his decision not to visit the wounded troops in Germany. Obama claimed that the Pentagon said that he should not go because it would be seen as a political event. The Pentagon verified that what they told Sen. Obama was that he could visit the troops but as a sitting Senator and not as part of a political event.
Instead, Sen. Obama decided to go to the hotel gym and work out and did not visit the wounded troops. In similar fashion, although Obama has been chairman for oversight of Afghanistan, to day Obama has not held one meeting. Because of Obama’s recent visit to Afghanistan, Obama believes that he fully knows what is best for the crucial area of responsibility (AOR) that his committee has oversight for. Now Obama believes that pulling 40,000 troops from Iraq and redeploying them to Afghanistan will some home be relief for what is already an over tasked military.
As one that deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan including twice during the same deployment, I can assure the Illinois senator, that the deployed days in Afghanistan are not different from those in Iraq. The only difference is the operational territory is mountainous. But the enemy is equally deadly in both countries. Obama should stay with bashing American’s in Germany and Europe versus trying to make anyone believe that he understands and is fully knowledgeable of what warfighters go through in combat. Obama should let Sen. John McCain teach him a few things in this area so that the nation will not live through another Bush outcome. Obama like Bush, both came from unaccredited universities reserved for wealthy Americans. Americans taught to become politicians and use our proud history as hype or referred to as “political jargon”.

Only in America :
The dangers American fighting men face
abroad, compared to the stab in the back
at home are what a pinprick is to a scimitar slash. The more undeflectable
for its coming from the quarter YOU ARE
PROTECTING [viz the movie 'Haditha'and
the HBO billboard sporting 'Generation
Kill']
Of course abroad they love the pinched- in & propped-up candidate, it cannot be otherwise judging by the filthmouthing
America is receiving over there.
America’s enemies are cheering the prospect of participating in the final HALLALI.
Well done Americans, the foreigners are already suffraging for you.
Another reason for their rejoicing is a
certain impeachment debate going on right now in Congress. No doubt that hyperextensive use will be made of MM’s
collage “documentaries” in building the
case for impeachment.
But again, the Final REAL Picture Is One Of BLAZING GLORY For AMERICA And American DEMOCRACY.
