Obama Camp Plays the “Angry” Card

GOP Sen. John McCain’s temper has long been the subject of criticism from both Republicans and Democrats, but until today the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, does not appear to have referred to it in any way.

On June 11, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev, flatly told MSNBC’s Norah O’Donnell that the presumptive GOP presidential nominee “doesn’t have the temperament to be the president of the United States. Everyone who’s ever worked with John McCain knows of his temper. It’s explosive to say the least.”

Today before the American GI Forum, McCain criticized Obama on the war in Iraq. McCain said Obama told Americans "what they wanted to hear" on Iraq, whereas he "told you the truth."

In response, Obama spox Bill Burton said “The American people are looking for a serious debate about the way forward in Iraq and Afghanistan, and angry, false accusations will do nothing to accomplish that goal."

Burton says he wasn’t calling McCain "angry," but rather his accusation. What say you?

ama seems to be quite generous towards mccain. Apparently they know how not to overreach as mccain has made itcentral to his candidacy to question obama’s patriotism. so yeah. both mccain and his words are angry and inappropriate for public discourse. he should apologize to the american people.

I see nothing wrong with McCain’s comments. When he goes too far such as claiming Obama would rather win the election than the war, he will pay the price with voters. Frankly, I hope he keeps it up. And, judging by his obvious frustration with Obama’s turning his “Travel to Iraq and Learn From Me Little Boy” gambit into a big fat stick which Obama is now applying to McCain’s backside, we are going to see a lot more of this behavior as the campaign continues.

Obama’s campaign is frustate and try to play the angry card because they know that Obama doesn’t have a judgment in Iraq war.

Whenever things don’t go Obama’s way, he plays a card of some sort. Then he/they slap their collective hands on their cheeks and say, “who? ME?”
Obama is despicable.

the angry old man is exactly what is and would be detrimental to a nation that wants to change the tone in moving forward. How can we survive another four years of this isolationist, bullying rhetoric if we want to move forward? How can we look for others to help us shoulder the burdens of wars and provide more troops if we have this angry old man as leader. He would in fact, drive a bigger chasm between us and our allies. He would drive us to the brink of destruction if this keeps on going the way he has expressed himself. Enough of this – the citizens should be more level headed than an angry old man and reject ALL that has been wrong for the last eight years. McSame should not be allowed to lead us to further destruction.

McCain has been on an Anger Bender all week, and with good reason. It’s always been a problem for him. The two most successful conservatives in my lifetime, Ronald Reagan and G.W. Bush were very adept at projecting affability, something more or less required to help those insane conservative nostrums go down. McCain simply doesn’t have the knack for it. His default setting is Bitter Anger. There probably isn’t much need to shine a light on it. McCain will do that for you. Or, as he’s clearly been coached, speak like a Robot bonked on clonazepam in order to keep the anger at bay.
But he crossed the line this week. And continues to cross it. So it makes sense that a surrogate would bring up the Anger Issue. And I’d guess that Obama’s campaign spokespeople will, over time, become fairly adept at nodding toward it as well.

-the angry old man-
take an angry 71 year old old man with political experience over a stupid 47 year old old (since when is 47 young) traveling empty suitcase hands down anytime to run this country.

Posted by: dead end trip | July 25, 2008, 6:28 pm 6:28 pm

On another “angry” note, I must say that I’d rather have an “angry” McCain than a stammering Obama, who not only changes his positions for political expediency, but who can’t even bring himself to acknowledge the change in position. I believe that the next president should be flexible enough to change positions when circumstances other than political expediency dictate the need for change. Change is indeed good. But not when change is done for the sake of expediency, and when the “changer” keeps saying that “my policy has been consistent.” Be honest about the change and explain the basis for the change. The American people can certainly understand and respect that.

Note to media:
Remember how you claimed Howard Dean was “angry” and therefore bad? And how the whole left was bad for being “angry” at Bush all the time (despite all the good reasons to be angry at him).
Now to be fair, you need to criticize the genuinely angry McCain also, despite how you like to praise him all the time instead.

Obama wants to be like some of us Americans that earn status through hard work and not through almost earning those hard goals that talkers don’t earn only in fiction books or their resumes.
Sen. Barack Obama is finding issues that one can only relate to his elitist personality that he cannot keep under control. Recently, Obama laughed on national TV using the same tone that he used when he referred to Sen. Hillary Clinton as a Anne Oakley want to be and noted that Americans only speak one language, English. As he mocked Americans on national TV, Obama said Americans should speak more than one language and that the language should be Spanish. In my case, I speak four languages including English and Spanish. It seems Obama wants to be like some Americans that don’t need to be told what languages to speak within American borders. The difference being is that my White mother raised me as an American and insisted that we speak proper English and Spanish.
Then, Obama also called himself a scholar. In American academics, in order to be considered a scholar, one needs to hold a doctoral degree. Obama referred himself as a scholar although he does not get close to being a scholar. Obama holds a two-year degree from Occidental College, a four-year degree from Colombia and a two-year law degree from the unaccredited university, Harvard. Of the earth’s population, 1.7% holds doctorate degrees and only 1.4% of Americans hold a doctoral. If lucky, could earn a doctoral in 6-8 years in order to legally call him a doctoral candidate. In my case, I am part of the 1.4% of Americans that holds a doctoral degree and knows firsthand the sacrifice that it took to earn a doctoral degree since I did not have my grandmother pay for my private schools or write a book about my racist mentors that allowed me to pay for my college bills. The difference being is that my ego does not need any stroking especially from sources under my control. I also don’t have to chastise Americans if they haven’t gone to college or learned different languages during my lifetime.
Sen. Barack Obama started his trip with his staff calling him president twice on national television as Obama and his staff suggested he is a rock star, especially overseas. Now Obama is overseas promoting his presidential candidacy on all the new networks as he bashes American’s in his effort of trying to make himself a leader. While in Germany, Obama had time to go to the hotel gym but he did not have time to visit the troops. Great commander-in-chief wants to be. As for truth in reporting, only CNN reported that the German government had its police take away any protest signs and protesters were told that they would be arrested if any protests were noted (CNN, 25 Jul 08). As one that has lived overseas for over 19 years including Germany, I have never heard any government going to that extreme to control its crowds. Today, Obama stated that in France he did not want large crowds suggesting that he could control the French population. What an ego for this Washington politician.

Apparently the little “angry” grenade thrown at McCain is working… at least from these posts.
Does McCain get angry… sure. He’s human and is not averse to showing it. Obama on the otherhand seems to me an uptight, passionless and humorless kind of politician. He likes the teleprompter and rally and other structured forums because he does not like risking the veneer of capability he has built up.
To me, he comes across as un-authentic… a product of his advisors rather than who he is (whoever that might be). And because he has no past or accomplishements, stary-eyed people are portraying him in a light of their own making. That to me is the scariest thing of all.

Obama is an egomaniacal “Bozo for Bozo “candidate……. who doesn’t care about anyone but himself!
In Iraq, he could not take the time in Iraq to visit the wounded… or even shake hands with the soldiers!
n Germany, Obama was too busy at the gym to take time out to visit his constituents…
In the states, Obama is too busy arranging his photo -ops by the color of their skin to pay attention to THEM, either.
Your adulation is wasted on someone who
provides himself with more than enough… and who holds you in disdain for your fawning over him.
Obama is is like an empty headed peacock preening himself because of his magnificent tail..
And that is all he has to offer… even with an advisory board of 300 strong!
There is no more!!!!
He promises Change!
So did his cousin Odinga when he ran for office under the chant “Agent of Change” His country is still reeling under the bloody bath it suffered when he sort of won!
So did George Bush…..
He can make a good speech when he has time to digest and memorize the words.
But when it comes to debates… when people fling questions at him out of order, Obama has difficulty getting the thought process rolling to the point where the words don’t get stuck on their way down to his larynx but finally trip painfully off of his tongue.
His ethics… as seen on his elections in Illinois…… (in one, he got rid of his ENTIRE slate of competitors… with the help of his benefactress…..)
and his associations with political sleaze .. and unfinished business left behind….. the housing development started under his watch almost NINE years ago…
WELL:
HE HAS NEVER F I N I S H E D ANYTHING!!
DON’T BE DUPED!

The problem with John McCain is that he has never voted to support the troops. He voted against more funding for armor and supplies, and he has consistently voted against funding the Veterans Administration.
John McCain is a total fake. Every thing about the man reeks of his angst at not being able to live up to the standards that his father and grandfather, who were real military leaders. Offered a commission to stay in the Navy, McCain declined, because he knew he’d never reach the same rank: not graduating 894th out of 899 at the Naval Academy.
The anger in John McCain has everything to do with how he wasted his life, starting with barely graduating 894th out of 899 at the USNA. He was never fit to be a Senator, to begin with. If it wasn’t for his newly found wife’s money, he never would have been elected, either.

It was Wall Street Journal reporter Elizabeth Holmes that McCain blew off today.

I heard McCain say this on CNN, and there was NO anger in his voice….just clear, honest truth and confidence. He calls it as he sees it…..OBAMA SAYS AND DOES WHATEVER HE HAS TO AS A POLITICIAN, just like the Rev. Wright says he does.
NEVER OBAMA!!!
Thank God McCain doesn’t pander to whatever crowd he talks to and has enough confidence in himself (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ARROGANCE, B.O.)

[Burton says he wasn't calling McCain "angry," but rather his accusation. What say you?]
I say that absolutely McCain’s camp was lashing out this week, obviously jealous over the attention that Obama was getting and how well he was doing on his foreign tour. Even former President Bush said to reporters this week that McCain was jealous – but that was plain for all to see. This kind of insecurity and behavior is not exactly mature, let alone Presidential.

Obama’s arrogant European/MidEast tour is ridiculus and nauseating to watch. World leaders who are now drooling at his feet are going to feel foolish come November.

We need a list of McCain’s top five faults.
1. Member of the Keating Five, took $112,000 from Charles Keating and was investigated on ethics charges.
2. Anger management issues
3. Philanderer, numerous affairs while his wife recovered from an auto accident, then dumped her.
4. Religious shopper (life long Epispocal, now Baptist)
5. Apparent confusion and disorientation involving time, place, and geography.

Vanessa claims: “His entire campaign and this trip – at our expense is staged to perfection – just like a movie. This guy is a FAKE and not qualified to lead our country.”
So what do you think is the probability that with all of the foreign trips McCain has made, and cited as the basis of his expertise on Iraq and Afghanistan, that so much as a dime of the cost came out of his pocket or his campaign funds? I would take a bet on zero.
It is truly unfortunate that all too much of the political discourse in blogs like this is indicative of people who talk first and possibly think sometime later. There are legitimate differenced in Obama and McCain and where we as a nation are likely to be 10 years from now.
For starters, Bush and McCain are nationalists, which is quite different than being a patriot; while Obama is much more of a patriot than a nationalist. If you do not understand the difference or the implications for use of power, go back to a basic civics class.

Now that Obama has impressed the 200,000 Berliners, got his dream foreign affairs photo ops with world leaders, and enjoyed his upscale workout at the Ritz-Carlton rather than visit wounded troops in Germany, it’s time for him to come on back to America and impress the folks down at the County Courthouses across this country. And oh, by the way, he should bring all those fancy press people with him to hear what our proud, hard-working American citizens have to say about the price of milk and gas and what it’s like to work three jobs at minimum wage. Like millions of others who live and work in THIS country — they also vote. And contrary to his carefully crafted and staged World Tour, Obama and his campaign cannot control how Americans will vote this November. Are you listening Senator Obama?

Posted by: mpwynn | July 26, 2008, 12:25 am 12:25 am

McCain was clearly showing his temperament while Obama was having his successful trip abroad this week. He was jumping to accusations at every perceived opportunity. I think the contrast between McCain’s most recent trip abroad, which didn’t receive near the attention, and Obama’s really activated the green eyed monster.

The only campaign playing any kind of card is the Obama campaign. They are trying to paint McCain as angry, crazy and senile. It’s only a matter of time before they call him racist. Trust me when I say they are working very, very hard to find a way to slip in the “McCain is racist card.” They have a team dedicated just to that.

Please vote for McCain in November so I can have a good laugh. McCain is a joke like Bush. It seem as though lately, we love to vote jokers as President..McCain as President! Are you serious America? The Republicans have messed up the economy and while Americans are complaining they are planning on putting another Republican to further damage the economy..How smart can people be! I need a good laugh in November..I’m sorry for the people who have lost their jobs and homes and have to pay an arm and a leg for gas..but should I feel sorry! These are the same people who are bamboozled by fox, Limbaugh and Hannity into believing that the economy is great and we need to fight wars around the world..On second thought I’m not sorry for you..you get what you deserve..Vote McCain feel the pain and don’t complain. You wise American Voter..Bush now McCain. America is the laughing stock around the world..people wonder how we keep on electing these kinds of people for President…McCain! Please! give me a break!

HopingForaBetterWorld:I could not have said it better. Americans I believe the most unsophisticated voters who can be easily fooled by the talking heads on Radio and TV. Most of these people believe that Iraq was responsible for 911 because Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and the little lady on the View said so. All the committees concluded that there was no relationship between Iraq and Alqueda..or Iraq and 911..Yet the Republican talking heads with their talking points of lies and propoganda were able to bamboozle most Americans into giving Bush a second term for more unjustified war. Afghanistan is where focus should have occurred not Iraq..but the few wise Americans know exactly why we went into Iraq. Americans are going to put McCain into Office this coming November because he has more experience in war(ha!ha!) War,War, War. Okay Iran here we come..okay North Korea here we come..most of Americans love war so we need McCain in there..It makes us feel great..we are kicking butts over there..we are great..lets fight some war. I tell people that Obama don’t stand a chance in November..he does’nt like war enough..so he’s weak..when you like war then you are strong…Bush is strong and so is McCain…Vote McCain lets stick our chest out and tell the world that we are bad and have the best army in the world..while the economy is going down the drain because we have to spend billions on a stupid war based on lies and no money to deal with economic situations at home..You wise, smart Americans vote McCain. So Smart are Ye!

Posted by: Stanley | July 26, 2008, 5:58 am 5:58 am

NotoObama..Yes to McCain..Lets get some wars going..that will help us to feel great. We are a great nation because we can fight war and have “the best Army in the World” Ha Ha what a joke. A great nation is one that takes care of its people and work on economic strength. The Japanese use to think that strength was having military power but they shifted their focus after you know what..and now they are an economic power. While Japan, China and India are growing economically..America’s economy is going down the drain “thanks to the Republicans and their “No economic policy” but War,War,and more War. The war is draining us and the dollar is getting weaker and weaker..The pound and Euro are stronger than the dollar. Thousands of Americans have lost jobs, because jobs are shipped overseas. Thousands of home foreclosures..50 million Americans do not have health insurance..In America healthcare is a privilege and not a right..In Canada, England and the Scandinavian Countries..healthcare is a right not a privilege..All of this mess going on because of the Republicans and their war policy which is draining the nation..and people are actually contemplating voting for McCain who would continue to perpetuate the Republican nonsense that is draining our economy with no upswing in sight. Heaven help us if McCain gets in there. War, War, War,equals to most Americans strength, strength, strength. For me a good economy is strenght not my country’s ability to fight war. Oh My! Here comes McCain and war more war again.

Posted by: Stanley | July 26, 2008, 6:13 am 6:13 am

It all comes down to whether or not you think we should continue the bush policies. If you think the war should continue indefinitely, while we spend $10,000,000,000 a month, and you think that bush has done well with the economy then mc-more-war is your man. If you think that it’s time we start to get out of iraq and do some positive things for the average American instead of just the top 1% then vote for Obama.

McCain=Bush: Your description of McCain is the type of Politicians most Americans love to see in Office and that is why he is going to win in November..Untruths and spin work in America..Can’t you see how popular Fox,Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity(the comedian)and the little lady on the view are? Not to forget “The main spinner” OReilly. These people have been able to con most of America into believing that the economy is great! And the high gas prices etc are figments of our imagination..Remember what Gramm who happened to be McCain’s advisor said the other day? You have to admit that these talking heads are great at lies and Obama bashing. The American public sups it up and believe every word they say..The average American don’t read for himself and ascertain facts..they depend on these talking heads who work together to tell one lie after another consistently and the premise is a lie told often will soon be believed

Posted by: Stanley | July 26, 2008, 7:22 am 7:22 am

Some Scholarly researcher ought to do a research on why Republicans love war the way they do. I don’t understand it..Most of these people are so called christians in the Bible belt but they love war not peace..It baffles the daylight out of me. The same people who are opposed to abortion(I am too but I support a woman’s right to choose)..are the same people who would support an unjustified war where innocent people and children are killed..Please do a research into the minds of these people..I am begging a top unbiased researcher..because I do not understand these people..these people love animals more than human beings who happen to be a race or color other than they are..I’m talking about christians..who would support the policies of a Gov’t who Governs a country where fifty million people don’t have health insurance and where millions go to bed hungry every night and we boast of being the richest country in the world..These people talk about Jesus..The same Jesus who talked in the Bible about us taking care of the poor and dispossessed. These people are going to vote for McCain so the wars can be perpetuated..Heaven help us all!

Senator Obama and his campaign are losing voters and clout and they will say anything at this point. Most Americans are angry that he could find time to make a spectacular speech to 200,000 people in Berlin and not have time to see wounded troops in the hospital in Germany. Of course, he could not bring along his press people to the hospital. He just wants the PR and photo ops and doesn’t care about the wounded GIs. He is a dud. Senator McCain speaks the truth, Senator Obama does not.

Posted by: Mary | July 26, 2008, 8:08 am 8:08 am

The American people are the least perceptive people on earth. That they cannot see through OBAMA the egomaniac, the pathological narcissist, that they are being played (this includes the media) is just amazing to me. These are the same people who drummed us into war. They were wrong then; they are wrong about OBAMA now. He is the ultimate disaster which could bring down this country for good!

Posted by: newtrina | July 26, 2008, 8:15 am 8:15 am

I don’t know if he’s angry or not. His temper has not gotten in the way of him being an effective legislator or leader to my knowledge. McCain is more of a leader and not much of a politician.

Posted by: rafraf | July 26, 2008, 10:30 am 10:30 am

Senator McCain don’t give a single thought to the claim that you have a streak of anger in your veins that is a good trait. Somebody more Holy than any of us said 2,000 thousand years ago that He prefer the Hot or the Cold but not the Lukewarm. So let’s forget about the people who is passing erroneous Judgments against you, I hope they will not try to stone you too..

Will Media Report Concert Before Obama’s Berlin Speech?
News busters
Remember back in May when media gushed and fawned over a huge crowd in Portland, Oregon — supposedly gathered to hear the words of Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama — but chose not to report the free concert given before his speech?
Well, it has been learned that before the presumptive Democrat nominee spoke to a crowd in Berlin Thursday, two popular German acts — reggae artist Patrice and rock band Reamonn — entertained the gathering audience.
Will media report this tonight, or just gush and fawn over the huge crowd again?
While you ponder, here’s what was reported by Spiegel Online moments ago (h/t Hot Air and Gateway):
++ Pop Concert for Obama Fans ++
6:33 p.m.: The tens of thousands of Obama fans are being entertained as they await the senator. The reggae musician Patrice kicked things off, followed by the rock band Reamonn.
I’m sure this will be part of ALL media reports concerning this speech…not!

McCain is a good representation of the current republican party that has driven this great nation into the ground for the past 71/2 years. They are angry, hostile, self-centered, self-serving, immoral, corrupt, jealous and soon-to-be irrelevant.
It will be left to the Democrats to clean up the big steaming pile that was left by the “elephant in the room”, and after the republicans finish burning their party to the ground, we will scatter your ashes to the winds of change.

Posted by: HopingForABetterWorld | July 26, 2008, 11:22 am 11:22 am

McNasty has shown he will flip flop, lie about his positions, disparage the patriotism of a US Senator, even to go so far as to leak classified information about Sen Obama’s trip. McCain is a warmongering mean spirited and unethical man, not the kind I would trust with Nuclear launch codes!

Obama’s race-baiting during the primary was a big turnoff to Dems.
Obama sure learned a lot at Trinity – but apparently little about honesty and humility.

Obama gets criticized for his inexperience regarding the Middle East and his lack of foreign affairs experience in general, he goes over there to become more aware and gain experience and he’s criticized for that! The Repubs are a bunch of hypocrites. Thank gods the rest of the world sees this country in a better light through Obama. Obama is not perfect, but if anyone can effect a real change and get others to work to get this country in better shape, it’s Obama. It is certainly NOT McSame. Sorry all you McSame supporters – Obama brings positivity, McSame only brings negativity.

Posted by: RaM | July 26, 2008, 2:22 pm 2:22 pm

Remember, O’Bamma would not have bothered going to the Middle East if there were not a political benefit to doing so. His greatest risk was not that he might make a gaffe (his handlers are much more careful not to let him off the leash for any off the cuff comments)… The greatest risk for O’Bamma is the backlash we’re seeing now amongst Americans who are sick of his presumptive “president-elect” attitude and messiah complex.
McSame did six trips to the Middle East — and to Iraq, and no media went with him. Sound fair? Even that didn’t shame O’Bamma into going himself. Hi Majesty didn’t think our troops worthy of consideration until a week of pummeling from McSame on the subject embarassed him into scheduling the trip.
Even after pretending to hear the Iraqis and the U.S. commanders on the ground out on the subject of the Surge and our continued presence there, O’Bamma still has his own views — what’s good for the country and our national security be damned! Koss and MoveOn have spoken and His Majesty has to honor their petitions until after the inauguration the Mediocracy seeks to grant him.

The statements made by McCain and his surrogates have been sounding very petty, mean-spirited and, frankly, desperate. I do not believe that McCain and his “team” have the temperament to run our country. Their apparent need to put down or invent arguments for every report on Obama’s trip demonstrates their small-mindedness. It’s BUSH-ROVE all over again. First they taunt Obama about needing to visit foreign countries, then they cry “foul” when he does. It’s that yapping cartoon chihuahua syndrome. It seems the rest of the world is ready to move on as well!

Posted by: kta | July 26, 2008, 5:02 pm 5:02 pm

Childish and clumsy attempts by Obama’s party to goad McCain into retaliation to labeling him as “angry” are silly and desperate. The clear differences between a shallow, though eloquent, Obama and a mature, realistic and focused McCain are apparent to an unbiased observer. The choice is clear: be charmed by Obama’s “inspiration”, or be assured by McCain’s stature, record and understanding.

Posted by: Alan | July 26, 2008, 5:13 pm 5:13 pm

The Republicans are swinging blindly at the moment; John McCain can feel his supposed foreign policy advantage fading away.
Really a couple of disgraceful, offensive comments to close out the week from McCain, along with a bunch of major gaffes in his area of supposed strength.

Why should Obama attend a “Town Hall Meeting” with McCain? Would McCain, if the scenario were reversed? Of course not. That would be capitulating to one’s opponent. That’s politics, kids. I’m really looking forward to the debates, though. Obama is an excellent debater, articulate as hell, and McCain … well, not so much. People have been posting comments that Obama can’t speak without a teleprompter. You crazy? The guy’s got a gift!
And he’s not a “smooth talker”, it’s just that he has a command of the language that comes from intelligence and education. That’s something many Americans aren’t used to or respect. But that’s their failing, not his. We’re a nation of dumbasses. Electing Bush to 2 terms is proof.
