I guess snubbing American troops while in Germany won’t play out well with the military families (read voters) back home in the States. Gee. Voters. I guess he forgot about them what with all of the biased love from the media.

i am finding that more and more every day–thanks—-we sure need a change–in a modern world the dinosaures just do not fit.

Obama has reminded me once again why we are Americans. Even if he does not win, I will forever remember this speech and he now almost have replaced Bill Clinton at the top list of my heroes.

Of course, BHO was as vague as ever and, as such, continues to impress those who don’t like deep thoughts.

Obama is a showman – not a viable presidential candidate. Hot air should be restricted to balloons.

It’s unprecedented for a U.S. presidential nominee to give a speech addressed to “The People of the World” telling them it is “their moment”. I think it’s a bit creepy. Before you run for president, be an accomplished senator. Before you lead “the people of the world” be an accomplished president. The Berlin speech sounded some great idealistic notions but it struck me as more like Christ’s “Sermon on the Mount”. The mainstream media strike me as kind of like his disciples in spreading The Word.

Obama has never snubbed any American Troop. Get your facts straight before you open your mouth. Obama has voted and protected our troops from day one 100%, while your man McCain has voted 95% percent against them.
You people make my blood boil, you should be ashamed of yourselves for posting lies, we get enough lies from Washington. You need to get your facts straight so you won’t look so bad.

Maybe they should translate and replay some of Obama’s mentor’s hate speeches over there. Especially the “sermons” where he blames white europeans for the failings of his community. 20 years in a hate church does not equal presidential material.

Well if the catholic priests sermonized about the virtues of the molestation of children to their congregations every week, and the followers jumped up, cheering and back slapping then you may have an argument.

One of the things about Obama that impresses me is the way he has run his campaign and I say again, “Runs his campaign.”
There is no doubt in my mind of his leadership and judgement in his ability to run this country. This is a man who will listen to advise and yet make decisions based on what he sees as best for all Americans. Right now our country is lagging behind. It’s that bronzed, muscular giant (circa Arnold in Conan) that turned into a withered old shell of a man. (Picture the ring wraiths from Lord of the Rings. Yes, nerd – that’s me, get over it.) This guy’s a real rascal.
All the younger people (India, China, etc.) pass by his frail and stooped form. They glance down and think about how he used to be a giant. They give him the briefest of thoughts, reflecting on all he has been through in his life, feeling disdain for what he’s become. Then they keep walking, now thinking about where they left their keys…
That old man is a miser. No one likes him, but he’s old and really very nondescript now, so no one bothers to hate him much anymore. It’s just that he keeps misering away, talking about reviving the good old days of the rotary dial and walking uphill both ways.
When he sees a child misbehaving, instead of talking to the kid, he talks about taking off his belt. He’s busy worrying about his social security check and whether he’ll be able to afford that fifth cup of coffee at the neighborhood cafe. He keeps smoking even though he knows it’s bad for him, and he just blames the people that didn’t tell him before he started.
I’m sick of being that old man that uses brute force to teach lessons, only thinks about himself, and always blames other people for the bad decisions he makes.
Whether black, white, or purple, we need to have a president that is going to rally people. We need a visionary, a beacon in this fog. The WORLD needs us to have someone with big dreams. Rapidly developing countries – India and China – each have more than one city on the top 10 most polluted cities list. You should really check out how those people live, it’s horrifying.
They’re just racing ahead so quickly that they don’t take the time to stop and clean up their messes, so it’s all haphazard. They are, in effect, exactly the way we were during the Industrial Revolution – giddy, scrambling, oblivious to their havoc. With the technology and knowledge of today, there’s no reason why we can’t get past that.
But how can we even begin to be a leader in that arena when we’re so much more concerned about our gas mileage and how broccoli costs $3.99 instead of $2.79?? (I did make up those numbers.)
It’s about time we had something MORE to be proud of our country for. We’ve been leaders for so long and we still have the power to do so, but we’re too busy being misers. We are the essence of freedom, but doesn’t that give us a responsibility?
Obama is so new and fresh that he’s scary. He’s barely got any experience being a politician at all, much less the trappings of a president. What if he really, really sucks? What if he’s all hot air? Well, he might be. But at least we will have given hope a chance. He preaches “change.” It’s a word that doesn’t have a good or bad connotation in itself, but when things aren’t going all that well, there is none better or more hopeful than CHANGE.
We know what McCain will bring…We’ve had a preface of a couple hundred years to show us what it will be like if he becomes President. He’s so tied down to old Washington, his fantastic (and fanatic) contingency, that he can’t even move. What that means is that he’s going to have to cater to Ebenezer.
He needs to make sure the rich stay rich, even though they don’t necessarily do anything to deserve it (in reference to car and oil companies that only grudgingly start to talk about increasing fuel efficiency or backing alternative energies).
He also needs to make sure the religion zealots get to lord it. Let’s just admit it, most of them are Republican…
We had a huge controversy last year over placing a monument of the ten commandments in front of the county courthouse. It’s tricky because the backbone of both law and religion is morals, but something so hugely religious should never be put on state grounds. The unspoken message it sends to people of other-than-Christian faiths is of intimidation.
Specific religion ideals should be kept as far away from our government as possible. Our melting-pot of a country cannot afford to have a president that will continue to push those views. A Republican nominee is going to do just that. McCain would do just that. Republicans have puppets, not revolutionary figureheads.
McCain is sharp and witty, a feisty little devil of a 72-year-old politician. I laughed my rear of when I found out about him swearing at Congress, and I got a kick out of his pokes at Romney during the early campaign. His nomination is viewed as a radically left-hand swing for the Repubs. But he won’t be able to do much to fix the last eight years. He’s got to veer way right, because he’s got rampant “conservatives” foaming at the mouth to bite at him if he so much as glances to the left.
More than likely, his choice for veep is going to be a Romney or Guliani. They are much more conservative, which will help him out with all his Bible-thumpers and Scrooges. Scary, considering McCain’s age. Either one of those people seem like catalysts of regression, not progression. Can you picture either of them NOT being pompous for two minutes? How do you suppose their pomp would go over with other foreign leaders? Eek.
McCain can keep our country from further slippage, but what if he dies? One of those slick-willies for the rest of his term? Or, what if McCain decides to continue on the Bush-y path? He’s openly talked about using military solutions to face the unrest of U.S. threats. Armageddon, at last, YAY!
McCain himself is a bad idea simply because of the issue of war. Our people have made it quite clear that we don’t really so much “like” ongoing wars, and he has repeatedly shown that he thinks of war (a.k.a. killing, death, blood, knives, guns, bullets, bombs, open flesh, fire, screaming, tears, fear, loss) as a reasonable resolution. A fine soldier does not make a fine diplomat.
On the flip, Obama has repeatedly shown that he is a great speaker who strongly advocates war only as a last resort. He has been a sensation, accruing loyal and passionate followers. What if he could use those same communication skills on powers that threaten us? Could he use that charm to literally disarm our “enemies?”
Even if he’s full of BS, having the world see that we want to vote for someone that talks about empowering our nation through benevolence is a very good thing. Not to mention his race. “The Americans elected a young black man that talks a big game, let’s watch what happens,” or, “The Americans elected yet another old white man that loves war, let’s watch what happens.” Hmm…
The African-American population will only have more fodder (and somewhat justly) for their complaints of racial bias if McCain wins (even though there is a great argument for the racial bias of a black voter voting for a black president just because of that commonality).
The whole history of racism in the U.S. has always had African-Americans on the offensive, caucasians on the defensive. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton shout out “Racism” every time a meek and innocent black person (which they all are, and if they aren’t, it’s because of racism that they’ve gone bad) has a less than comfortable experience with a caucasian.
I worked at Walmart for six years, and once upon a time, a big black man would come in and try to swindle us. He had successfully done so many times in many stores but had not gone undetected. When he came to my store for the last time he was known by our employees, who rejected his ploy. He immediately screamed, “Racism,” to which our clerk replied: “I find it extremely offensive and racist that you would accuse me of that just because of my color. I’m saying ‘no’ to you because you are a thief, not because you’re black.”
Prejudice DOES exist. The walls of the KKK are old and crumbled, but there’s a few squatters. You will never, never get rid of all of them, but it’s important to see that the problem is more evenly distributed between the ignorant on either side of the argument than it ever has been before.
Today’s youth, no matter what color, are starting to realize that an unjust cry of racism is racism on the part of the crier. I’m sick of worrying that every word that comes out of my mouth will be twisted into something other than what I meant.
By electing Obama, caucasians will be able to prove that racism against black people is not a predominant trait. African-Americans can stop letting history guide their future (which it does) by seeing that they have the power to guide it themselves. It’s not a reason to give him the job, but a huge step toward racial equality is definitely in the “pro” column.
…For those that would write me off as an “idiot left-winger,” I would say that I believe that our nation can be a figurehead of peace, innovation, and prosperity. Does anyone remember something about “life, liberty, and happiness?” Why does it make me a tree-hugging hippie to believe in the importance of those things?
I do share some “right-wing” beliefs, but I want my daughter to have a clean planet to live on, with clean water and clean air, no killing, and less chance of “natural disasters” (how natural are they when they are caused by the global warming that we at the very least contribute to?). I think that will be more possible with Obama.
Setting huge goals for our future isn’t unrealistic, because the only real limitations are people’s imaginations. We, as Americans, are brought up being told that we can do ANYTHING, and every sentence from Obama’s mouth has that clear ring behind it.
Would it be a BAD thing for our country to be focused on drastically improving human welfare?? Can we HURT anything by avoiding war? By getting rid of pollution? By trying to stabilize our environment?
Where is our HOPE? Is it hidden behind our greed and selfishness? Come on, Scrooge! Get with the program! Don’t make me wither away with your backward philosophies! It’s time to move forward. I want to get out there and mingle and make friends with the young people in the street.

How are Obama’s economic policies going to help our economy? Can one Obama supporter answer my question? Because I am personally selling my stock funds, as well as decreasing my annual income so that I won’t be hit by the expected tax increases (cap gain rate plus FICA increased cap rate etc.)
