Bush Won’t Attack Obama at Republican Convention
ABC News’ Jennifer Duck reports: During the heated 2008 presidential race, President Bush has never attacked Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., by name, and on Friday, Press Secretary Dana Perino told reporters the president has no plans to attack the Democratic presidential nominee when he addresses the Republican National Convention on Monday.
“Do not expect the speech to define the president’s legacy. This is not an opportunity to recap accomplishments of the past seven and a half years. It will not serve as a farewell to the American people, and it certainly will not attack Barack Obama," Perino said.
One reporter asked "why not" and Perino replied with a laugh, "Because he’s got class.”
In May, Bush launched a sharp attack on Obama and other Democrats, suggesting they favor "appeasement" of terrorists, but the president was careful not to use Obama’s name directly while speaking to the Knesset on the 60th anniversary of Israel’s statehood.
"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along," Bush said during a visit to Jerusalem.
"We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared, ‘Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.’ We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."
Perino told reporters Bush didn’t stay up to watch the Democratic presidential candidate’s acceptance speech, but did catch the coverage today and congratulates Obama on his achievements.
“It speaks volumes for this country that it’s an opportunity — it’s the land of opportunity for all people,” Perino said.
Bush also had kind words for Sen. John McCain’s, R-Ariz., new running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
"Gov. Palin’s success is due to her dedication to principle and her roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic, and serves as a wonderful example of the spirit of America," Bush said in a written statement. "By selecting a working mother with a track record of getting things done, Sen. McCain has once again demonstrated his commitment to reforming Washington."

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
Could it be because, no one on God’s green earth cares one whit about what W. thinks of anything or anybody? He and McCain sure scared the Russians out of Georgia, didn’t they? No wait, they didn’t, that’s right…

If the Republicans were smart, they would ban Bush from the convention. If he has to appear, it should be right off the bat, the first speaker of the first nite, so he can be forgotten as quickly as possible.

Had said you are.

Let’s face it, if there was any way possible the McCain campaign could have avoided having Bush speak they would have. But he can’t so I am sure they asked Bush to not say anything that would draw more attention to his address. It is not a bad strategy really. Get him in and out as quietly as possible

Mr. Barack Obama’s has opinions on many subjects, but has been in very few positions in government where his ideas have been put to the test.
This gentleman, whom I regard in high esteem, is an intellectual who does not have the practical experience required to be Commander in chief or CEO of the United States of America.
This person has one qualification, at this particular time in his life, he can talk, and discuss in a charming manner.
Let him continue his Senate role, gain the practical application experience, then in future years, run for the top job in America.
Talking and promising, is all very well, it has it’s place certainly, but the President of the United States has to consider Congress and the Senate, so the golden voice of Senator Barack Obama does not qualify him to move into the White house with disregard for practical experience of which he has not yet attained.
I wish him well in his future endeavors, but advise him to sit out this particular endeavor and await a future date to continue.
Some thought for the Voters…. Looking for Presidential material in Mr Obama.
Has he got what it takes ..it will be too late after he is elected, and you desire to change your mind.
He is a Lawyer…
How many years has he practiced law, that career is now at an end and he now giving it up.
He appears as a honest person, but he has not been in any position as such to be a proven honest
He obtained some experience in State legislature, but for how long.
He can talk that is true, he is a great communicator, most lawyers are, and he promises much.
But these are just promises none of which may come to pass.
He appears friendly that also is true, politicians are always friendly till they get elected.
Where is all his political experience, that I do not see. How many years has he had in the Senate.
Where does his experience come from to be knowledgeable about our the economy and our country..
Where does his experience come from to be Commander in Chief of all the Military in USA.
Where on earth has all his campaign money come from, he is not a rich man, he does however know some people who to say the least, have a reputation that is soiled and associated with people of ill repute..
He is a religious man, but the church he attended appears to have been one he should have rejected many years ago, simply because of his minister, but he even got married in that particular church by that minister.
I am always particularly interested when someone can raise money in the large volume that he has, and it begs an explanation.
Who does he know and what does he feel obligated to do for that amount of funding, from those that supplied the cash.
There is no free lunch , someone is expecting large favors from this gentleman when he becomes president .
It will be interesting to see the outcome in the future.

Oh, Kerri! What crap you spew! I was just remarking the other day about what respect we Dems have shown John McCain in return for the Republican’s belittlment and cheapening of all War heros from the Vietnam Era just to get their guy “in”. I will never forgive you Repuglicans for the disrepect and mean spirited campaign you ran in ’04

No one gives a damn about that Warmonger Bush. He will go down as the worse president of our generation. What has he done over the last 8years to benifit america, nothing.
He’s spent biilions of dollars on a unecassary war, thus destroying our economy.
He destroyed allot of the good will with leaders from other countries.with his i will do whateva the hell i want attiude
More people hate us, and want to see us dead, and this world is a more dangerous place to live in.
He’s freaking horrible. and you people who support and defend him, should burn in the eternal flames of hell right along with him.
Mr.Bush you will be judged by the God, you claim to follow so much. May he condeme you to hell for your dishonorable actions and warcrimes.

Ummm….excuse me, but I think th eprize for “the meanest of all” goes to the Repubs. Some day, when the dust settles out, I think history will look much less kindly on the Reagan administration, as the beginning of all the bashing. Public education? “Sucks, and here’s the proof.” Lies. “Liberals are weak on defense! I brought down the Commies!” Right–they had nothing to do with their own demise.
Morons.
And now they are trotting out the Alaskan hottie to be the savior of November. Better hope McCain says healthy. You want her running the show? Oh wait, yeah you do…another “stoolie” to push around….

What experience? Shooting moose? The state was ready for anyone to come in and end corruption and she should be commended for that. But being part-time mayor of Smallville doesn’t make you experienced on the world stage.
And if you folks are going to go on about Biden being an insider, then you have to look at your own Prez candidate kind of sideways too, right?
Posted by: steve | August 29, 2008, 5:28 pm 5:28 pm
I’m looking forward to this one. The republicans actually think her pick was smart? So they brought somebody of limited experience to the table. Can’t use that line anymore. They brought somebody who is a reformer. In order to prove the case a reformer is necessary they have to admit things are screwed up. In order to admit things are screwed up McCain will have to justify why he sided with “screwed up” 90% of the time. Not to mention that her major reforms have to do with putting big oil on notice. So let me get this straight. The lobbyists for McCain are going to love this? And as americans should we? We’ll not only have an energy policy which continues oil dependance but now it won’t involve american jobs either? Isn’t that just the big win for the american people. Yep, sounds like more of the same. This is a pick to suck in people who are undecided and not thinking, for which nothing will change since the VP has limited capacity to change anything, for which more tax breaks will go to big business and the wealthy, and for which more jobs will be sent to other countries. Nice! And the Dems should view this selection as a threat? He might has well have wrapped this up with a bow. Let the debates begin!

No need to attack when the shortfalls of the DNC ticket are so obvious and full of holes. Palin has more experience in budget management and ethics reform, cost cutting, and giving back to the people than either candidate on the DNC ticket. I bet the DNC is missing Hillary today. This is great news for the GOP ticket.

Exactly I dont take anything away from his VP pick, but it sounds like a desperate gimmick to win over pissed off Hillary women. Memo, she still doesnt stand for the values Senator Clinton stands for. And Biden is going to eat her alive.
To be honest, Noone not Obama,Mccain, or Clinton will be able to do much to fix the mess, Bush has gotten us into, at least not in the next 4years. Save whatever you can people, cause were in for a bumpy ride.

I would rather have someone that trips over his words and does what is right than a fantastic speaker like Obama. At least i know it comes from the heart.
Show me what you can do, because your words mean nothing to me. I have yet to hear one reasonable POLICY that will help the economy. All of my tires are already filled. We need something that is an action rather than rhetoric from him.
I like Obama better than Mccain. It doesnt mean i would vote for him. I am proud to fully support my Commander and Chief, who i will miss.

bush couldn’t give a speech about his accomplishments because he would fill up about 30 seconds of the convention. Bush has such a small grip on reality that he can do nothing to bring another republican to the white house look to 2016 before a GOP candidate even has a chance, although palin would look good as political eye candy.

The deficit that so many whine about are a result of endless spending on social/welfare programs with the military budget and war a drop in the bucket in comparison. That democrats have selected a “grant writer” for their president over a well qualified woman and should he win we will all get to see a second Carter administration.

You watch how many innocent people join up with terrorist groups looking for payback because their families were killed. George Bush thinks everyone are terrorists. People fighting for their homes. Their land. And their always hiding where the oil is. I guess that’s why he said he hasn’t paid much attention to where Bin Laddan was.

There is a lot of ignorance going around on this blog. George Bush hasn’t been the best president but since 9/11 we haven’t had another attack, many have been thwarted and Al Qaeda has run to ground. Say what you want about Bush, you and the terrorist may hate him, but the terrorist respect him. They know that Bush means business. And did anyone go to the bank complaining about getting their stimulus checks? Our economy was booming, even during the Iraq war until Pelosi and the Democrats took over Congress 2 yrs ago. Instead of compaining about your glass being half empty, think of it as half full. We still live in the richest country in the world, we have cell phones, plasma TV’s computers and internet service, and even the poorest homes in the U.S. are bigger than the average homes in Europe. Our military is also voluntary, unlike communist countries. Maybe Michelle is right, but only about the left. Democrats are a bunch of whiny, spoiled ingrates. Get over yourself and just be proud, good or bad, that you live in the best country in the world. Like Tony Blair once said, “You can judge a country by how many people are trying to get in and how many are trying to get out.” And it’s not the people leaving that we have a problem with.

McCain and the Republicans are finally out of the closet. They sell fake dollar bills with Obama’s picture — their own version of the RACE CARD. While the local Republican Chairman says it has stopped and will not happen again; SHE ALSO SAYS NO ONE WILL BE PUNISHED (in another report). Sounds like Republicans condone the action while also seeking cover to me.

um what! UM TOM! Everyoneone knows that in every program ran by the Government there are built in increases, every year, which automatically increases their spending. The drug plan for seniors, education reform, spending for aids in Africa, the war on terror (which I believe is real-you may not but that is ok) all add up not to mention the economic hit inflicted on 911 and the politicians racing to the pig trough lapping up all that money handed out for homeland security. Then you have natural disasters on an unreal scope such as Katrina. But you know all this ,don’t you? The old class envy sure shines through on the Bush bashers which is pathetic nonsense but then there are those to whom you can vote that will “give” you, no work required, what you need and deserve and damn those rich people! Remember Tommy nothing is free and nothing is cheap.

The experience argument is overblown and interesting. Of America’s most celebrated presidents Lincoln had never held any office until he became Presdent. J.F.K was the junior senator. The bedrok of democracy as in trial by Jury is that we give everybody a fair chance knowing that there is no perfect formula for identifying competence. Some great speakers are lousy performers but some are great performers. I expect every serious person to seek the understand the candidates. After all at the end we will all live by our choices

Bush did a nice job cleaning up the mess that Clinton and Gore created with the economy and non-pursuit of known terroists. He was faced with unprecedented challenges and has always handled himself with dignity and respect for others. We had 7 great years under his administration and yes things did go to hell in a handbasket when the dems took over congress. I totally agree with the above comments that he’ll be missed.

I am honestly trying to figure why the dems are blaming GW for “poor handling” of Katrina. Why the negative connotations? Bush urged for evacuation of New Orleans and then proceeded to lead the effort to rebuild the city with billions of federal dollars. Do the dems think he had the ability to “stop” Katrina? This country is so dumbed-down it’s absurd. We had better wake up!

The economy is rebounding in spite of a plethora of simpletons who thought they were being smart/cute by buying houses they couldn’t afford. Too many jump on this easy bandwagon and yet haven’t got a clue about the issues. As for the war, Bush took known and unknown information and made a difficult decision that was agreed upon by Congess. It’s too easy to be a 3rd base coach when the game is over. Please respond.

No, Bush won’t attack Obama at the convention. He’ll let Joe Lieberman do it!
Dirty Harry: The absolute worst POTUS we have ever had, and you have the gall to question why we think it’s all Bush’s fault? Are you actually living in the USA, or are you living in a cave somewhere?
Here’s a couple of points for starters. The war in Iraq was started on LIES; not just “information and non-information”. It was supposed to be a quick “shock and awe” war that would be funded by Iraqi Oil and it wasn’t supposed to cost us anything. Well Harry, take one moment to look at what this war IS costing us: We have to borrow money from CHINA to fund it. Our deficit grows by billions a day while our economy, and our country’s very infrastructure is crumbling. People are worried they won’t have the money to keep warm this winter, while Oilmen cronies rack up unprecedented profits.
Our country which enjoyed a reputation of being fair and just is now viewed as the bullies of the world, which leaves our reputation around the world in shambles. Are you hearing me, Harry?
George Bush and his cronies decided he was entitled to an Imperial Presidency.
He didn’t use the intelligence he was born with, and instead he let his
so-called advisers lead him around by the nose. They made him think he was King and that no one would dare question his wisdom, and because no one did, we now find our country in such a quagmire that it’s impossible to even begin to guess when we’ll ever get back to being the great country we once were.
The Bush Administration has built their policies in a house of cards, and in case you haven’t read the newspapers lately, or watched TV, that house of cards is crumbling as we speak. I actually pity the next POTUS, whoever it may be, because they are inheriting a country that needs to be totally rebuilt from the ground up and all because one snotty nosed brat decided he wanted to outshine his father on the world stage. Trouble is, he didn’t realize he wouldn’t make a pimple on Bush Sr’s rear end!
The only GW hasn’t screwed up is our Religious beliefs, but then again, he DOES have 5 more months to go. Maybe he’ll mess that up for us too and then he can also be known to history as the “Heretic King” of his time.
Sorry Harry, it IS George Bush’s fault that our country is in desperate straits!

LOL@ Of course Bush will not attack Obama. What the hell could he say? He’s the one responsible for the last 8 yrs, not Obama. He’s the one with the lowest approval rating of any president.
The republicans have essentially admitted that they cannot win on their own policies. So now they are trying to out-Obama Obama.
All of Bush’s foreign policy changes lately have been in step with what Obama has stated all along. LMAO!!!
Now you have McCain trying to get his “Obama” on and get a “historical” ticket of his own. The thing is, he hasn’t earned it. Hillary and Barack HAVE EARNED their votes. Barack has been campaigning, meeting people, debating, etc., longer than Palin has even been governor. LMAO!!!! Hillary created a real movement by talking about issues that they care about. Palin is for nothing Clinton was for. I was a hardcore Clinton supporter and I am insulted by the idea that these two women are somehow “interchangeable”. No the hell they are NOT! They have nothing in common except a uterus. This just confirms to me how out of touch and simple McCain is. Slap any old woman on the ticket and there you have it! Problem solved! I don’t think so!!
All of a sudden, Obama feels like the safe, reasonable choice, while McCain looks wild and scary.
He didn’t vet Palin and met her ONCE. He just picked her on a whim to “shake up” his ticket. How little respect he has for the American public and how dangerous he’d be as a president.
Country first? What a crock!! McCain put his reputation as a “maverick” and trying to win a news cycle over caring about the American people. Country last, McCain first.

I heard it more than once. Bush’s war took so much money away from important things this country needed, ruining our economy. During Clinton’s administration we had no war and isn’t great the way he fixed social security, gave everybody a job so we had wiped out poverty, fixed medicare, gave us free health care for all, did away with disease. Imagine if Hillary had won, she probably would have had us living forever.

ASS*HOLE BUSH….THE WORST President in 232 years of this country’s history…END OF DISCUSSION.. 139 more days for this SLUG.

Chief, I know it’s hard for you libs to fathom, but GW may eventually be recognized as the best president in the last century. If things continue to go well in Iraq and the Middle East continues to stabilize, it’s because of the tough policy decisions made and enforced by Bush and his administration. Difficult decisions? You bet and Bush never backed away from them.

I can’t wait for the republicans to get out of the white house with their lies and foolishness.

GW Bush has to be one of the worst presidents we’ve had with his dismal approval rating, wasteful spending, bad decisions, warmongering ways, etc. If it were legal to throw tomatoes at him when he speaks at the RNC, we’d have a shortage of tomatoes in the USA afterwards. Good riddens.

Bush is going to sit in Crawford,Texas on his big fat lazy A** and watch the storm on his wide screen TV..Do a few lines of COKE and kick back with a couple bottles of Jack Daniel’s.. One good thing is nobody will have to listen to this pig Monday night at the Repuke Convention…Maybe there wont even be one and that would be even better..

Bush is a fine president. Unemployment has been under 6% throughout his presidency. His administration appointed the highest level African Americans in our executive branch so far. He lowered taxes on all middle class (and also on upper class). We have not had a terrorist attack on our soil since 9/11. The economy has pretty much expanded throughout his presidency, as it did this past quarter by 3.3%. He has done exactly what he said he would do and not reneged on promises. Iraq has been a boondoggle but McCain seems to have solved that thorny problem. “No child left behind” means I can look up my school’s ratings on the internet with respect to basic minimums that have to be taught, and make school decisions based on that – accountability is good. Vocal hatred on the part of extremely biased leftists bounces off of him, which they hate even more. They get into a cyclone of hatred where they believe that Bush is the antichrist, Hitler, and a killer of children all rolled into one. Bush knows, as most rational people do, that those vomiting hatred and lies are without merit.

Someone once said the voters will vote their pocketbook. I agree with that. Republicans speak of national defense and Dems of the plight of the middle class. I think if you don’t have a strong economy and satisfied middle class the defense of our country will someday have to be against it’s own people. Yes I’m talking about a “rebellion” nobody will say it! But believe me when I say Hard working middle class citizens will take so much before you see some sort of rebellion. It’s amazing how much the middle class will put up with in our great country. It also shows how spineless we are. Politicians in Washington really think were stupid and lazy. Of course they don’t want to spend money in education and social programs. God forbid we see through how they control the masses. Don’t get me wrong please I’m very much American and believe very much in our system of government. But what we have endured in the last 8 years is pure executive abuse ! We all know this to be true. Barack Obama is the right man at the right time in our history and the simple reason is because true Americans will take so much before they rebel !

So what if Bush appears with McCain. Maybe Obama should counter by posing with Carter, Mondale, Clinton, Gore and Kerry.

FBUSH: Served TWO terms ? No bad for the worst president in history. Better the the second runner-up Jimmy Carter. Spare me your venom of a reply, I’ve heard it all before. Unless you have something interesting to say.

Who cares what George W. Bush has to say tonight. McSame would have been happier if he didn’t show up at all!
Bush/Cheney should be impeached for the lies and betrayals that they have brought upon this country.
Doesn’t it seem strange to you that the Bush/Cheney administration are now trying to do exactly what Barack Obama wants to do regarding Iraq and Afganistan? Timeline for the troops to come home from Iraq and a build up of troops to Afganistan. EXACTLY what he has ALWAYS said was the right thing to do.
You people who think Sarah Palin has more experience then Barack Obama need to get your heads examined. He is so much more experienced and intelligent. To think that the Republicans are again putting us in another precarious position by making someone who “doesn’t even care about Iraq” the VP nominee makes me speechless.

Bush endorses McCain at the convention. Thank you president Bush. You further damage the GOPs chances.

Well I guess one more lie about what W will do won’t hurt his “class”. How can you god fearing moral people still follow this man or party? Have they not treated you bad enough to say uncle? Do you have any dignity left? You are truly sad.

You liberals are hypocrites. If Bush didn’t speak at the convention, you would then say that McCain was being shunned by his own party.

As a law student at Syracuse, Biden had plagiarized a law review article , In September 1987, his campaign ran into trouble when he plagiarized a speech by Neil Kinnock, at least we can always tell when he speaks his mind
Speaking about Obama: the Presidency should not be a place for “on the job training”
When asked again about his statement during the debate he said ” I stand by the statement”
Biden – “John McCain is a personal friend, a great friend and I would be honored to run with or against John McCain. ”
“There’s a gigantic difference between John McCain and Barack Obama and between me and I suspect my vice presidential opponent,” Biden said.
“She’s good-looking,” he quipped.
Obama shows off his great judgement with his VP choice
