‘Change You Can Xerox’

Remember that clunker of a zinger from Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY?

Trying to make hay out of Sen. Barack Obama’s use — with permission but not attribution — of some language from previous speeches by Gov. Deval Patrick, D-Mass., Clinton essentially called Obama a copycat.

The controversy soon died down.

But lest we forget, the man whom Obama has apparently chosen as his running mate — Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. — has an episode in his past where he used someone else’s lofty rhetoric, unattributed, as well.

Biden withdrew from the Democratic primaries for the 1988 presidential campaign after it turned out he had lifted passages from British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock without attribution.

"Stupid," an older, wiser Biden judged for ABC News’ Charlie Gibson twenty years later, for a profile of the major 2008 presidential contenders. "My mistake. Born out of ignorance, thinking I didn’t have to prepare. And I didn’t deserve to be the nominee. And all of a sudden, internationally, I’m this guy who cuts corners, who isn’t honest, who’s using other people’s words. And it was, it was, man, it was, it was terrible."

The episodes are not completely similar. And Democrats sure feel confident that the problems in the U.S. right now will overshadow political kerfuffles like these.

But I’d sure expect Republicans to make hay out of it all.

Joe the Plagarist.
The guy is a one man gaffe machine.
And let’s not forget that he has claimed McCain is the only guy on the Republican side who is qualified for the presidency. LOL. That’s going to make it slightly difficult for him to run against McCain.

Not only will Republicans make hay out of it, Biden’s a pompous lightweight who couldn’t pull 2% out of Iowa, and who runs for President every 4 years with nothing to show for it.
Fat lot of good this will do Barack Obama. And that’s true whether you’re an Obama supporter, critic, or agnostic.

JHust found this one…enjoy!
JOE BIDEN, BARACK OBAMA
Obama’s Running Mate, in 2007: ‘I think he can be ready, but right now I don’t believe he is.’
Man, the attack ads on Obama featuring quotes from his own running mate are just going to be brutal:
ABC’s George Stephanopoulos: “You were asked is he ready. You said ‘I think he can be ready, but right now I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.’”
Sen. Biden: “I think that I stand by the statement.”
(ABC’s “This Week,” 8/19/07)
Picture the voice over: “If his own running mate has doubts about whether he’s ready for the job… shouldn’t you?”

Well, according to CNN it won’t be Hillary, so Biden seems the likely choice. The republicans are going to have a field day with Biden’s past comments about Obama.
It’s also going to be funny watching a campaign where the VP is more qualified and has more experience than the candidate. Obama doesn’t have a chance now.

Digesting an Obama-Biden ticket…
It’s hard for Obama supporters to play the age card any longer, as their potential veep is all of six years younger than McCain.
The candidate of hope and change selected a running mate who was first elected to public office when Obama was 9 years old. He was elected to the Senate when Obama was 11.
The bottom of the ticket running on change has been in Washington forever.
He voted for the Iraq War — which Obama touted as the most important decision since the end of the Cold War.
Biden supports a ban on partial-birth abortion. He supports deploying U.S. troops to Darfur in Sudan.
His mouth will be an absolute time bomb. Will he refer to Delaware as a “slave state” again? Will he discuss who’s behind the counter at 7-11s?
I’m reminded of a Rudy Giuliani response when Biden took a shot at him — “Joe’s a good guy, we all criticize each other during this time… But for Joe Biden to talk about qualifications — he’s never run a city, he’s never run a state, he’s never run a business.”
That statement is true for both men on the Democratic ticket.
Other than Biden’s mouth, it’s a relatively safe pick. But since he’ll be spending just about every waking moment between now and Election Day in front of television cameras… look out.

Posted by: qwerty | August 23, 2008, 12:18 am 12:18 am

Republicans and many Hillary supporters are breathing a big sigh of relief that it’s not Hillary, because he probably would have won.
I like Biden, but someone with his experience will highlight Obama’s lack of experience and the ticket will soon look upside down.

Posted by: Audrey | August 23, 2008, 12:22 am 12:22 am

decent, McCain met with regulators twice on behalf of Keating who was under investigation. The ethics committee reprimanded him for poor judgement. McCain said that what he did was wrong. The bailout of the bank cost us taxpayers over $3 billion.
This is old news, and the only reason it comes up is because in comparison Obama comes off looking like a saint in his dealings with a certain Illinois real estate developer that the Republicans keep bringing up.

Yep (well, partly yep, Glenn was also sent away with only a slap on the wrist). But Republicans are excellent in ‘absolving’ crooks, we know that already. You don’t have to remind everybody of that over and over and over again.
And we all know why he got away with it. He raised the POW card. This is for instance what Bob Dole said at the time: “He has been held hostage before under very difficult circumstances. So let us not keep him hostage here in the Senate”

Obama’s tax plan (he actually said this):
Tax the heck out of them and let the free markets work.
This is the exact quote:
“If you talk to Warren [Buffet], he’ll tell you his preference is not to meddle in the economy at all — let the market work, however way it’s going to work, and then just tax the heck out of people at the end and just redistribute it,” Obama said. “That way you’re not impeding efficiency, and you’re achieving equity on the back end.” He continued by saying that he thought there was some merit in Buffett’s argument.

A verbal pit bull of sorts who has foreign policy expertise. Biden can play bad cop to Obamas good cop. His strengths far outweigh his weaknesses.

Biden said he would be honored to “run with or against John McCain”. He pushed hard for Kerry to pick McCain as his VP in 2004.

Obama bi(n La)den ’08
And they get mad when reporters confuse his name with world terrorist #1? Is this some sort of bad joke? Has anyone checked Howard Dean’s sanity lately?

The Men’s club is alive and well. There’s nothing exciting about this election. Obama says he’s taking the high ground but I beg to differ. Many media continue to promote him. We really don’t know much about him, just questionable material in his books. Where are the media in giving us some solid investigative reporting? What is he offering Ms. Clinton’s supporters, absolutely nothing. Women voices are being pushed to the back of the venue.

I would certainly hope we can talk about ethical lapses from the eighties. But I think we should start with the Keating scandal.

Priceless.
The McCainiacs are so out of their depth, they now have to run to Democrats’ quotes to disparage Obama.
They can’t find one themselves.
Well, be sure you attribute the quotes every time you use it. Otherwise you will be accused of plagiarizing as well.
Be careful out there.

Biden will indeed have excellent material on McCain, he knows him for decades.
Biden was also the one who torpedoed Giuliani’s run with his priceless observation: “A Verb, A Noun, 9/11″
We already could adopt it to “A Verb, A Noun, POW”
But I’m sure Biden will find an even better observation.

McCain admonished Putin on Russian troops in Georgia and talked about forcefully removing them. Zero dollars
Putin responded by asking McCain, “You and what army?” Priceless
Obama said that there needs to be a time table for withdrawing troops from Iraq. Zero dollars
President Bush has inked a deal to have troops withdrawn by 2011. Priceless
Judgement my friends- Obama/Biden 2008

“Beau Biden, is the current Attorney General of Delaware. As the cops would say, the Biden machine, anxious to ingratiate themselves with Obama, had the means, motive, and opportunity to arrange this outrageous arrest. For those gullible enough to believe that civil liberties might improve under an Obama regime, this ought to provide a reality shock.”
Is this payoff for Biden’s son having someone falsely arrested at the Washington Press Club??????? Will the media investigate this?

Peach: “Biden was actually endorsing a Kerry/McCain ticket in ’04!”
I don’t think McCain wants his base to be reminded at that …
The Evangelicals will be apalled to learn that McCain had had discussions with Kerry in ’04 about being his running mate.
As they will be when they learn that McCain has been an Episcopalian his entire life. Until last September that is, when he suddenly started telling people that he was a Baptist.

Obama chose someone who supported McCain and said Obama was not ready to be PoTUS. Who does that: Someone who holds no grudges and is sincerely interested in hearing from those who do not always agree with him.
Now that’s putting your money where your mouth is.
Will McCain pick Romney? We’ll see.
Obama/Biden 2008

You must be kidding!!!! JOE BIDEN??????
C’MON GUYS — CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN???? Oh no — that does it for me. It’s McCain all the way in ’08.

As Biden said last year, Obama’s not ready to be president.

Wow, I didn’t think Obama would really go through with it. Biden really puts the lid on several issues.
- WA outsider. Closed
- Against Iraq war. Closed
- Shares views with Obama. Closed
- Fresh and young. Closed…McCain doesn’t look so old compared to Biden.
- Party unity. Clinton was never considered. Bye-bye HRC supporters.
At least this makes the decision easier for dems on the fence.

Well, well, well Obama picks another “politics as usual” politician and a fellow kerryite! Fantastic! He just keeps digging himself a larger and larger hole that he will not be able to get out of eventually! I couldn’t be more pleased with his selection. We thank him for the unsolicited attention and help he is giving to the Hillary supporters in our quest to elect John McCain. Perhaps the next time a woman candidate runs for office the Dems will have learned a lesson about being disparaging towards the female gender. You think? lolololol Oh, that’s right, a few days after he won the nod he made a comment to the press regarding the women voters, “They’ll get over it.” Well we haven’t and we won’t. You are history Obama. When we get done with you you won’t even be able to be elected to the position of dogcatcher! lolol Keep up the good work Obama! We are thrilled on your V.P. choice! Thanks so much for all of your help! It is so appreciated! One loser picking another huge loser! Biden did really well in the presidential race! Obama was so wise to hitch his wagon to Biden’s star. I think he didn’t even consider Hillary because he pretty much knew it was a done deal for us and we would NEVER vote for him. He could have had Jesus as his running mate and I still would have voted for McCain in November! Good riddance to bad rubbish is what I say! Obama, go back to your museum like house, and leave us alone! LOSER!

Obama could have selected Mary, Mother of Jesus as his running mate and you still would have voted McCain.

Great. Now the Democrats have two plagerzing narcissists instead of one. What a winning ticket.

NEWS FLASH: In a desperate attempt to add GRAVITAS to the ticket OBAMA names BIDEN as his VP pick.
BYLINE: BIDEN has previously stated that OBAMA lacks the experience to be PRESIDENT.

Obama – snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I say this as a Republican. I’m truly a little saddened by the foolishness of the Democrats. The Republican party is also a mess. Unless one party gets its act together, both will remain as they are – dysfunctional.

Posted by: Sammy | August 23, 2008, 9:56 am 9:56 am

I could have easily vote for Biden for President.
I will not vote for Obama under any circumstances: I will not reward with my vote all the race-baiting, the undemocratic tactics to steal the primaries rigging the caucuses, the backroom deals by the DNC to accomplish a faction coup within the Democratic party, with the complicity of the MSM.

LOL
Obama has all the suckers had again with the ‘text message’ ruse. They wanted to be in touch with Paris Obama, gave their information up, and all they will get now is messages asking for money! LOL
Suckers, did you really think he was going to give you the information before their true supporters, the main stream media?

Posted by: Rob | August 23, 2008, 10:16 am 10:16 am

I had not realized Biden was the same age as Cheney.
Since the libs made a big deal about Cheney’s draft deferrments, maybe we should make a big deal out of Biden’s.

“CHANGE you can BOTH XEROX and ABDICATE”
WOW…if it was really true that OBAMA texted his VP pick at 3am …it just goes to show that HRC’s 3am Ad is still haunting him …
so the new AD this FALL will be read :
… Biden is picking up the 3am call …
… ‘cos OBAMA has put his phone to a CALL FORWARDING MODE to BIDEN …

Posted by: 3am CALLs ---> BIDEN | August 23, 2008, 11:10 am 11:10 am

McCain should pick a sharp smart woman. There are lots of those. Then it’s a test of of Pelosi against her own gender, and to see if they can quit sabotaging each other.
I did warn you about the texting stunt. Surely you didn’t believe he was going to lose the newscycle to the Internet? He may be inexperienced but he isn’t naive.
What the McCain camp should do now is dig into Obama’s advisor’s blogs and see what kind of proposals they are making. That will tell the country what to expect from an Obama administration, that is, fill in the gaps of the mystery candidate by outlining the thinking of his 300 Spartacles.
… all of whom will be deeply disappointed should this man win because as the texting scam proves once again Obama is about Obama.

The plagiarism scandal happened for Biden after the stump speech he’d been reading time and again got shortened and the attribution got taken out– It can’t be plagiarism if one makes the attribution seventy times and then once forgets to.
I for one think Biden is a great choice for Obama and he has the potential to show that even someone who doubted Obama’s presidential potential in 2007 can feel confident about Obama now. If the Democrats harness now the idea of “Change of Mind” with Biden then they will have something voters who want to change their minds need to know. They will watch Biden explain how he changed his mind….

At least Biden chose an illustrious individual to plagiarize from, not Georgian facts from the Wikepedia like McCain.

“I could have easily vote for Biden for President.”
No you couldn’t. Biden quit after losing the Iowa caucus. Nobody was given to chance to vote for this loser. The media was drum beating for Hillaey to quit after Iowa too remember.

Dear PUMAs,
Your darling Hill brings nothing to the ticket….no foreign policy, economic, or military exprience. She lied about Bosnia, Ireland, and totally exagerated about China. She failed miserably at healthcare. She’s totally polarizing. Not to mention, both she and Bill HATE Obama. Plus, she adds NO change and she would bring out the Repubs in full force. What does she bring to the table besides a bunch of crazed angry women and their male appeasers? NOTHING! Biden was the best choice. Now you can just take your toys and go home if you want.

OB or BO campaign just opened up for themselves a pandora box of contradiction …
the media archives is full of the opposites between O and B … how silly can BO get ?
August Curse it is !
