Clinton Stresses Party Unity in Remarks, Addresses McCain Ad

ABC News’ Eloise Harper Reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton reassured the members of the New York delegation at the Democratic National Convention on Monday morning that her party is united — saying the word "united" at least nine times during her remarks.

"Let there be no mistake about it," Clinton said. "We are united. We are united for change. We are, after all, Democrats, so it might take awhile. We’re not the fall in line party — we’re diverse, many voices. But make no mistake, we are united. We are united on behalf of the Democratic party, the values we hold dear, the reason we work so hard in politics to make the changes that we know will matter in the lives of hard working Americans and for the future of our children. And we are united behind Barack Obama and Joe Biden and we are gong to make sure that we win on November 4th."

Clinton also responded directly to Sen. John McCain’s ads, which say the Democratic Party is divided.

"I understand that the McCain campaign is running ads trying to divide us, and let me state what I think about their tactics and these ads," she said. "I’m Hillary Clinton and I do not approve of that message."

Before a cheering crowd, Clinton said, "We are gathered here in Denver for a very clear and simple purpose, and that is to come out of this convention energized, excited and ready to elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States."

Dear American Citizens and the mass media of U.S.A.
As a concerned disabled American Veteran and American citizen, I
consider it my duty and responsibility to bring following critical
characteristics of so called Maverick McCain to you for proving me
wrong or right.
“The citizens of the United States of America have the ultimate
responsibility to elect the ” Right Candidate with the right
temperament” to lead our nation’ to address our nations present and
future moral, democratic, economic, educational, health care, energy,
military, and foundational soul of our nation.
In my firm professional opinion that the media should help the common
voter to explore and discuss following attributes of Hon. Senator
McCain.
1. Does he have a calm, cool, and collected ” temper ” [ Presidential
Temperament ]?
2. Does he have a sound and sustained “Judgment and Caliber”?
3. Does he have a reveal a presidential “Thought-fullness and
togetherness” of purpose and positions?
4. Does he lot or little “ex-poser and exploitation” around
Washington”?
5. Does he poses enough ” Vigor, wisdom and Vision ” for our
Great-grand Nation?
6. Does he poses foreign policy exploit-es based on ” American
Values, Virtuous, Vastness”?
7. Does his campaign talk. slogans and ads are based of facts and
free of fiction, deception, seduction, and attacks?
If your answer to the above questions is yes then recommend and vote
for him.
But in my professional. political, and personal opinion that vote is
against the common interests majority of American people, against the
world humanity, continuation of status qua and possibly dangerous
world order.
Long live U.S.A and its democratic people and their common sense.

Senator Obama has every right not to pick Hillary Clinton as his running mate, and I have every right not to vote for him. (Yeah, Obama cult members, keep telling yourself I’m just a “Republican in disguise.” If you say it enough times, you might actually begin to believe it).

Obama’s choice of 3 a.m. to announce his choice of VP was so very high school. Just like his flipping Hillary off in a speech, or dusting imaginary dust off his suit when he talked about a debate in which she kicked his butt. I’ve seen candidates for high school student councils behave with more maturity than this. What would Obama do when a third world dictator blows off his “let’s just sit down and talk the issues to death” diplomacy? Flip him off? Or maybe he’ll just accuse him of being a racist.

I agree with Joe Biden. The Presidency does not lend itself to on the job training.

Posted by: Carrie | August 25, 2008, 12:51 pm 12:51 pm

Do Hillary supporters remember when a journalist asked Obama if he was worried about getting the support of Hillary supporters? His answer was: “Where else do they have to go?” I can answer that question, Barry. We have three places to go – vote Ralph Nader, stay at home, or vote John McCain.

Posted by: Carrie | August 25, 2008, 12:52 pm 12:52 pm

Americans are independent by nature and freedom loving by birth. We tend to make our own decisions. Our form of government requires a few select others to represent us in making laws, but each of us individually make the decision of who we want to trust to do that representation. I respect Hillary as she attempts to convert her supporters over to Obama, but I for one have to say that I don’t agree with her on this issue, and since on election day my one vote is equal to everyone else’s one vote, I won’t be casting mine for a Democrat for the first time in 32 years.

Posted by: lordy lordy | August 25, 2008, 12:53 pm 12:53 pm

I agree with Hillary Clinton. John McCain has credentials in foreign affairs, and Barry Obama has a couple of lame speeches.

Posted by: Carrie | August 25, 2008, 12:54 pm 12:54 pm

I agree with John Edwards. Obama voted “present” all the time because he didn’t want to take a stand on the issues, and have his positions come back to haunt him.

Posted by: Carrie | August 25, 2008, 12:55 pm 12:55 pm

Anyone who disrupts the Democratic Convention does NOT want a Democratic victory in November. It’s not a matter of getting in “lock-step” as the Republicans always do. But any so-called Democrat who won’t vote for Obama should have other choices and does. How about Nader or Barr or McCain for that matter? Go ahead, vote for whomever you wish, but you don’t have a right to disrupt the convention–unless you want to play into Rush Limpig’s game plan!!

Hillary Clinton is doing what she has to do…they are die hard democrats, but it is true, she got 18 million votes, and maybe more if Michigan and FL counted, Bidden got 9500 votes, I myself a Clinton supporter and now a former democrat think it is an insult that Clinton was not choosen as VP. Go McCain.

Carrie, do you agree with McCain on the economy.

Posted by: ll | August 25, 2008, 12:59 pm 12:59 pm

I am a lifelong Democrat, and I am a strong Hillary supporter. Obama will not get my vote in November if the Dems nominate him. I will vote for McCain as will abut 40% of all Hillary supporters. Do the math Obamabots, that’s 7,000,000 Dems voting for McCain. And it is not about the personalities of Hillary or Obama, it’s about the very different policies and factions that are representitive of the two candidates. Hillary is an FDR style Democrat, and Obama is a neoconservative, pro-Lieberman Dem.

Posted by: jbatterson | August 25, 2008, 1:01 pm 1:01 pm

jbatterson would you please explain the actual differences between Hillary’s and Obama’s policies.

Posted by: d | August 25, 2008, 1:04 pm 1:04 pm

d – absolutely it comes down to Obama’s Private Public Partnership economic schemes and Hillary’s FDR, Federal Government backed Infrastructure Program.

Posted by: jbatterson | August 25, 2008, 1:06 pm 1:06 pm

d- also, can you explain why an “anti-war” Dem like Obama claims he is, would support Joe Lieberman over Ned Lamonte, why he voted in concert with the entire Congress with few exceptions to fund the Iraq war, and why his position of The Russian-Georgian conflict reads straight out of the Neocon Handbook?

Posted by: jbatterson | August 25, 2008, 1:08 pm 1:08 pm

Memo to Obama cult followers: referring to the former First Lady of the United States as a “dried up old fruitcake” is not a prescription for winning over her voters. Nor is referring to her supporters as old, inept, uneducated, fat, stupid or racist. But keep trying! Maybe by November, we’ll realize that we really are old, fat, stupid and racist, and we’ll give Barry our vote out sheer guilt.

Posted by: Carrie | August 25, 2008, 1:10 pm 1:10 pm

D- also, can you comment on why the Dems are so opposed to nuclear energy? If you talk energy independence, you must talk about nuclear energy. It is the cheapest, cleanest, and most powerful form of energy, so why is Obama and the Pelosi/Gore Wing so against it? Could it be because they’d get rich off of building windmills that would not provide enough energy to address global consumption, they could keep getting their pals at Big Oil to continue funding their campaigns because wind/solar/hydro power are non-threatening to the Big Oil boys, and at the same time?

What has happened to change that
assessment?
The fact that Obama is about to become

I think it is sad and tragic, that Hillary supporters, will not vote for Obama. It tells me they must not care about the economy, or the state our country is in now, or how much worse it can be with 4 more years of Bush politics. These Hillary supporters must have just wanted a woman for president, no matter her party. If you really supported Hillary and her platform, you will vote the way she wants you to now. I am a woman and I will vote Democratic, because that is the best thing for us and our country.

Obama has said this:
“I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international
support will only fan the flames of the Middle East and encourage the worst, rather
than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of Al Qaeda.
“I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars.”
If anyone looks at MCBush campaign from 2000 you will see he is an obvious flip flopper or suffering from alzheimers.
OFFSHORE DRILLING
THEN: During the 2000 Presidential campaign, McCain favored the moratorium on offshore drilling, promising to “never lose sight of the fundamental principle that federal land management decisions affecting local communities must be made in cooperation with the Americans who call those communities home.” (Sustainable Energy Coalition, 1/18/2000)
NOW: In June 2008, McCain called for an end to these federal bans, saying, “It is time [...] to lift these restrictions and to put our own reserves to use.” (CNN, 6/17/2008)
RELIGIOUS RIGHT
THEN: Campaigning for the presidency in 2000, McCain described Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell as “agents of intolerance”, saying, “I don’t pander to them, because I don’t ascribe to their failed philosophy that money is our message.” (CNN, 2/28/2000)
NOW: In 2008, McCain delivered the Commencement speech at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University and supported this decision, saying, “the ‘Christian right’ has a major role to play in the Republican Party.” (NBC’s Meet the Press, 3/5/200)
REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
THEN: Running for president in 1999, McCain was opposed to repealing Roe v. Wade. He said, “Certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.” (San Francisco Chronicle, 6/19/2008)
NOW: McCain’s website says, “John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench.” Additionally, on several occasions, McCain has said himself, “I do not support Roe v. Wade. It should be overturned.” (MSNBC, 2/18/2007)
SOCIAL SECURITY
THEN: Stumping for President Bush in New Hampshire in 2004, McCain responded to a participant’s question saying, “Without privatization, I don’t see how you can possibly, over time, make sure that young Americans are able to receive Social Security benefits.” (C-SPAN, 11/18/2004)
NOW: In 2008, McCain answered a participant’s question at a town hall event in New Hampshire, saying, “I’m not for, quote, privatizing Social Security. I never have been. I never will be.” (CNN, 6/12/2008)
TAX CUTS
THEN: In 2001, McCain opposed and voted against Bush’s tax cuts, saying, “I cannot in good conscience support a tax cut in which so many of the benefits go to the most fortunate among us, at the expense of middle class Americans who most need tax relief.” (The New York Times, 3/3/2008)
THEN: McCain opposed Bush’s additional tax cuts in 2003, because he argued the cost of the Iraq War was not yet known. (The New York Times, 3/3/2008)
NOW: In 2006, McCain voted to make these tax cuts permanent. In a 2008 presidential debate, he said, “We need to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, which I voted for twice to do so.” (CNN, 1/30/2008)
The problem with McCain is that his brain is no longer working. even talk show host Bill Cunningham said MCold had some mental problems. This was in reply to McCain’s denial that he had ever met Cunningham when,
in fact, they had met twice. This is a far right-winger talking about his own candidate and you’d better listen to him.
It’s not that his temper gets the best of him, he’s mentally disturbed and time after time, has made
statements that suggest he’s either confused, unaware of the reality of the situation, or true liar.
If McCain’s experience could not help him vote against the Iraq war, how will it help him make America safer and better by continuing failed Bush policy?

Joyce,

Carrie – All good points.
More trash talk from the Obama folks:
DENVER — A black Hillary Clinton delegate on Sunday accused state Senate President Emil Jones of calling her an “Uncle Tom.”
Jones — Barack Obama’s political mentor — denied using the racially loaded slur against Chicago political consultant Delmarie Cobb, but two aldermen who said they witnessed the Saturday night exchange back up Cobb’s account.

Does anyone know what the talking points of Michelle Obama’s speech are tonight?
1)Obama’s good judgement in his association with wiht Ayers
2)Obama’s good judgement in joining Rev. Wright’s church and how much the family learned from their Spiritual Advisor of 20 years about “hate America”.
3) Thanks to Rezko for all his finacial assistance.
4) Thanks the voters of Illinois for electing him Senator so he could earmark $1 Million to the hospital she worked at since the hospital could then triple her salary from $100,000+ to over $300,000+. She then could pay off her student loans.
5) Obama’s good judgement when he decided to use hard drugs.
6) How much giving back to the community means to both them – (donating less than 1% of their income to charity) Michelle also helped setup a program at the Hospital she worked at “dump” patients that couldn’t pay for medical services.

I am a Vet (1970-72) who will never vote for McCain. He trumpets his POW status every chance he gets, but when push comes to shove he abandons his fellow vets. He has repeatedly voted against any bill which would improve veterans health care. He spoke against the new GI Bill and then did not bother to show up for the vote on it. He voted against mandatory rest periods for troops between deployments. He voted against flak vests and armored vehicles for Guard and Reserve troops. The Disabled American Veterans gave him a 20% rating on vet’s issues. The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave him a letter grade of D. (Obama got an 80% rating and grade of B). McCain should be ashamed.

Some people fail to understand that after the competing for the nomination is over, all people involved unite behind their party’s nominee. Forget about the past and get on with supporting our Democratic candidate Obama.

The democratic party is divided and it will stay divided. They are doing over kill with this unity message that does’t exist. I think they protest too much.
They picked the wrong candidate and they know it but they don’t have the nerve to admit it and choose the real candidate that would save the party and win the election-Senator Hillary Clinton.
I feel sorry for Hillary they obviously are giving her a hard time by trying to make her save Obama’s candidacy.
No one can save the sinking ship that is now the democratic party and Obama.
I won’t vote for Obama-millions of otheres won’t either. Face it he will lose in November.

Did you get “beat up more” when the found out your father was an Admiral in the Navy? What physical diabilities do you have from your experience.
John McCain voted against Veterns bills that were filled with earmarks and pork that had nothing to do with veterns benefit (similar to the earmarks for Obama’s wife’s hospital). He felt that all money in a bill for Veterns should go to Veterns.

All of these so-called “Democrats for McCain” were never true Democrats in the first place!!
A true Democrat would never turn their back on their core fundamental values just because their primary candidate didn’t get the nomination!!
Obama and Clinton are just about the same on their policy platforms, while McCain is the polar opposite! No true Democrat would ever embrace the policies of John McCain!
It seems as though they want to blame Obama for everything under the sun, rather than listen to what the Clintons will have to say on Tuesday and Wednesday night at the convention.

As one who is familiar with the military life, the number one cardinal rule is NEVER criticize your Commander in Chief or political leaders as it could have serious consequences on those active duty members are still serving overseas. Non-active service members, if true, don’t use our military to boast your OPINIONS as fact it just demonstrates how selfish, unfeeling you are toward your fellow comrades..

THE PUMAS ARE TOTALLY JUSTIFIED …
1. Contrary to what Obamabots say …
Obama and Hillary were in a dead heat,
when the DNC pressured Hillary into not
only conceding, but campaigning for Obama.
2. Obama is once again in a dead heat, but now
with McCain, even though Obamabots act like
Obama has already won (like they did in the
primaries against Hillary). So, this means that
half of the Democrats, and all the Republicans
(3/4 of America) dIdn’t want Obama. Plus, he
didn’t even win the popular vote, and refused a
revote in Michigan and Florida.
3. Obama has the thinnest resume in politics, and
he won state legislature and Senator by
disqualifications of his opponents, not by earned
experience, or votes.
4. Obama’s one claim to fame is being a community
organizer, where he boasts of registering voters.
Then he took their votes away from them, by
disqualifying his opponents on technicalities, prior
to the election.
5. Obama’s mentor of 20 years, was an anti-American
racist … not to mention other unsavory associations.
6. Obama is simply buying the election, since he’s
good at fund raising … hardly a qualification to be
President of the United States.
7. The media never vetted Obama, and they are
giving him a free ride, plus more than twice the
print and air time as McCain, as they did against
Hillary.
8. 90% of blacks are voting for Obama, because he is
black, while the campaign gained ground by
accusing most opponents of racism.
9. Obamabots were, and are extremely nasty and sarcastic
towards Hillary supporters, as well as McCain supporters.
10. Pumas should be applauded for putting country before party …
especially a party that did not represent them, and a party
which highjacked the nomination for Obama.
11. Obama added insult to injury, when he didn’t even consider
Hillary for V.P. … nor did he even call her … even though she
got 18 million votes in the primary.
12. Obama and the DNC are now holding a gun to the heads of
Hillary and Bill Clinton, giving them an ultimatum … either support
Obama, or kiss your future in the DNC and politics goodbye.
P.S. Michelle Obama subjected her two young children to anti-American racists … Jeremiah Wright, Farrakahn, Pfleiger, and others
at the black liberation Trinity church in Chicago, for several years. Is this who you want for first lady … I don’t think so !!

Posted by: Hoo-Ahh! | August 25, 2008, 3:46 pm 3:46 pm

The bottom line is Obama garnered more votes than Hillary. To claim otherwise is creative Clinton math. Obama and others followed the rules when MI moved up their primary. Clinton’s creative math ignores caucus states. MI and FL flaunted the rules and then want to be included? Bullshot! She DID NOT win more votes. End of story. She LOST.

Posted by: Hoo-Ahh! | August 25, 2008, 3:50 pm 3:50 pm

Gina,
I bet you didn’t even read the Eloise Harper’s report. You probably just scrolled down to post slanderous remarks against Obama.
You people are beyond any form of reason whatsoever!! Clinton could be on TV every single day encouraging her supporters to support Obama, and you still wouldn’t listen!!
There’s no reason to respond to PUMA posts with actual facts, because these PUMA people just don’t care!!
PUMA=Faux Democrats/Undercover Republicans

Posted by: Jennifer | August 25, 2008, 3:53 pm 3:53 pm

She lost and still has the class and dignity to do the right thing for the party, for America, for the future. It is too bad the PUMAS can’t put aside their anger and follow her lead. Do you want her to have a future, which might include being President some day? Then put the party and our country first and do not help subject us to a third term for GWB. By the way, PUMAS, look up the word “petulant” in the dictionary.

Allow McCain to jump in with both feet on the Hillary ads, through the whole DNC Convention.
Then make one Obama ad, which features a Townhall meeting where McCain gets the question, “how are you going to beat the B*TCH?”(Senator Clinton)…and he chuckles

PUMA voters
Vote and support whoever you choose. I’m delighted you appreciate McCain’s honesty.
He was sooooo honest with the wife who worked 5 years for his release as a POW, and DUMPED her after she was disabled in a near fatal car crash.
He was soooo honest when he got his 2nd marriage license to Cindy McBigBucks a MONTH before his divorce was finalised.
He was sooo honest when asked how he would beat that B*TCH (Hillary) at a Townhall meeting…and he chuckles
He was sooo honest when in a temper fit he called Cindy “C*NT” in public.
He was sooo honest at the Keating Five hearings.

I’m a 64 year old feminist and I’m sick over the women who say they will be voting for McCain rather than Obama. McCain is anti choice, he called his wife a c___, he offered her up to a bunch of bikers to run for a topless Miss Buffalo Chip or whatever,he divorced his first wife because she was crippled in an auto accident and applied for his marriage license with a millionaire heiress before his divorce was final. He supports all the economic policies that are killing us and he wants to go to war with Iran so more of our children can die. I’m only talking to women here because we’re the ones who will suffer if the good ole boys get in for 4 or 8 more years. How many of you would like to be treated like John McCain’s wife? Please–I have 3 daughters who deserve a better life, a better country, and women who vote in our best interests. More than your feelings will be hurt if you go Republican or stay home. I’m asking you as an American and a woman to support our best hope for our country–Barack Obama.

This Hillary thing is just dragging on a bit too long, don’t you think? It is time to stop whining. I don’t believe I heard anyone out there saying the real reason the Obama Camp doesn’t want to deal with her…maybe that she has some baggage to bring along….namely husband BILL? Who would want all of his past womanizing brought up again, and then to have to deal with Hillary’s continuing decision to “stand by her man” in light of what he has been out there doing in the past? Too much else more important in this world today!

McCain voted against the new GI Bill because he was co-sponsoring his own and Bush had planned on vetoing Senator Webb’s bill…Obama voted against funding our troops last Spring because there was not withdrawal time line….GEE MADE ME FEEL GOOD

Then Venezuela. Then another oil-rich country. Then another. Then another. Maybe if you’re lucky, they’ll come home in one piece, if at all. So go ahead and hold your grudge. Go right ahead. Do it for your kids.

For everyone who thinks Obama needs on the job training, just remember that 4 years ago, a majority of the US voted to re-elect Bush. So you might want to rethink what you think is best, esp if you’re one of those who voted for Bush.

Posted by: Alex | August 26, 2008, 1:57 am 1:57 am

All of these hooha comments just further prove the point that Americans are ignorant. Having a ‘Democracy’ can be all fun and games, but with a country this size, keeping things in shape is too damn hard, especially when people are bitching over Hilary’s 18 Million Votes, Obama’s ‘inexperience’ and McCains flip flopping. Lincoln was in the senate for what, 2 years before he became president? And if I recall that was 12 years before he was elected to the top office. George Washington had no experience, hell he couldn’t even read very well, but he selected the right people to run his cabinet to get things done in the country. Lincoln had great help as well. Personally, I would love to see who each candidates picks are for their cabinets. That would make for much better informed decisions. I believe Obama would pick a worthy cabinet to help him out, and I can see McCain on the other end handing out freebies… Welcome back Grant!!
Either way, the DNC has chosen Obama, and Obama chose Biden as his running mate. John McCain hasn’t picked anyone yet (although everyone speculates Romney) so running polls over who is better Obama/Biden vs McCain is a waste of time.
And one last note; as a reminder to everyone, when things need addressing in this nation, running the ‘old’ way never yields reform or change, it just wouldn’t happen. It takes something drastically different to get change to happen (the Founding Fathers anyone?). And that is why I will vote for Obama. He’s willing to shake things up, which is a MUCH needed refresh of the previous 8 years.
Thank you.

I have to believe that any Hillary supporter that votes for McCain is doing so out of bitterness/anger or a very short-term memory.
Even with a great deal of anger, resentment, and other feelings one may have, I simply cannot imagine that any Clinton supporter can rationally argue that a McCain presidency would be better for this country than an Obama presidency.

1. The same people who elected Bush twice are voting again. I’d say their ability to assess a person’s character, intelligence, and vision is sorely lacking substance. Yes, they will be voting again.
2. Contrary to Carrie’s idealistic regurgitation, many Americans are naive, easily mislead, and easy to manipulate through economics (the real religion in this country) and dogmatic religious points of view. The Republican Party is the ultimate charlatan when it comes to unifying these easily mislead individuals.
3. The Democratic Party shows too much indecisiveness in collective activity. They condemn a whole lot, but then waver under pressure. They can’t be trusted. People seem to believe that Presidents of the United States perform their daily duties in a bubble. Folks, it takes serious cooperation from both parties to get anything done, or for one party to take a stand with a US President. Obama could be elected, but it won’t make much of a difference in things don’t change in Washington.
4. Obama might not be the ideal candidate for the current collapse that we face in this country, but he’s the only politician in this country speaking the truth about corrupt politics. Are dreams enough? Is hope enough? It starts there and if he surrounds himself with the right logistics personnel, they can help him turn his vision into a reality. That’s how it is supposed to work – through a collective effort to make everyone’s life better by providing opportunity.
5. It’s time to take our country back from the corporate hounds that whore out working class citizens, or send jobs overseas. While should the average man and woman sacrifice so much under the economic pressure applied by corporate privateers? No more. The military industrial complex has proven to be a short-term fix to long-term economic flaws, yet we continue to go down the same path.
6. The middle class is being exterminated. Education is failing. Innovation is non-existent. Debt is rising. Corporations are experiencing record profits while charging more and more for their goods. Home values are dropping. Banking institutions are teetering on the brink of collapse; thus, are also tightening restrictions on all types of financial services for first time home buyers, entrepreneurs, independent contractors, and so much more.
7. Years of wasting valuable resources on ill-advised military conquests in the name of religion and super-inflated nationalism, disguised as necessary and prudent actions to prevent certain crisis. Spreading American values to the world at large while, at the same moment, sacrificing those values to accomplish economic objectives.
8. We are talking about Americans who were more interested in impeaching a previous president for his salacious cheating scandals, rather than talking about impeachment proceedings for a president who waged an illegal war under disinformation and false pretense, fabricated long before the terrorist attacks. Despite knowing that the president led us into an unnecessary war and having done so through manipulative means, the American people went with him for a second term.
9. The current generation of Americans must be prepared to make significant sacrifices in order for this country to be a viable option for the next generation. Baby Boomers really screwed the pooch on this one, didn’t they? It’s all been about short-term success for the few while the many pay the price – and so willingly by continuing to vote for the same kind of leaders.

Does Hillary have to knock on your door personally and tell you to vote for Obama to get you to understand that he is the MUCH better choice. Voting for McCain isn’t hurting anyone but yourself, grow up and vote for the person who you agree with the most on the issues, not the person who hasn’t beat the person you like in the polls.

Why is John McCain completely out of touch with this country, in addition to his being a career politician? Here’s a short list of things younger than John McCain: (from http://www.thingsyoungerthanmccain.com/ )
The Grapes of Wrath
The Zip Code
Penicillin
The Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
Cheerios
Ronald Reagan
Scrabble
The Slinky
The Golden Gate Bridge
The list goes on…
Who dug up this fossil? McCain is 72 years old. The only white house he should be thinking about is freshly painted while retirement home in Arizona.
It’s time for fresh, young leadership. Obama will lift this nation up and walk with us into the future.

Look, McCain is hardly what I would call a far right Republican. He is as much a liberal as a Conservative. It’s interesting, as a Republican, to come here and notice that the majority of posters supporting Obama are very angry and hate filled in their posts. THIS is one of the reasons I am a Republican. The left tends to be very hateful and angry. I don’t want to vote for McCain because he sees things further to the left than I am happy with. I may just vote Libertarian this time, but I know I will never vote for someone who is as far to the left as possible. This isn’t Europe, I don;t want it to be. For those of you who do, why can’t you just move?

I have a hard time with Obama pretty much just not stating his point of view on every moral issue. If you take morals out of a person, what do you have left? Money can disappear, economy can fail, but your morals will always be a part of you.

Are you commentators all kidding. this isn’t a popularity contest. why the hell would anyone in their right mind vote for McCain instead of Barack just because he didn’t choose Hillary as his VP. Let me tell you, if she had gotten the democratic nomination, she wouldn’t have taken Barack as a VP. Now, McCain is a snake in the grass, he votes consistently 98-100% on all votes just like Bush does. Our country does not need another Bush. Any immature commentator here who is going to vote McCain just because Hillary is not the presidential nominee for the Dems is too immature to vote and really should stay out of the polls. Would you idiots also rather scuttle your own beautiful ship too because the captain of the ship is not the person you wanted. McCain is here to get us into World War 3, he hates the POW/MIA organization that saved him, he was never tortured in Vietnam (he was given preferential treatment because hes the son of an Admiral, and the Vietnamese tried to use him for negotiation talks). So to all you “democrat for mccain” people, get your heads out of the sand, McBush is not the person you want to lead our country. We need Obama, a person who will fix all the problems Bush caused, and not McCain who will only make the problems worse!

I been listening & listening but guess what nothing. If you want to run on the change platform you really need to add the words to explain what change is…. If you are going to change our dependence on foreign oil tell me how. To me we should drill new wells and develop alternatitve energy at the same time. It not an either or issue. You say you are going to create 5 million jobs, how? Fix health care, how? I think this election should be a referendum on lying politicians. The time has come…. If the elected can’t do the job then we should be able to fire them and replace them with someone that will get results. Maybe the Democratic controlled Congress, which has done nothing over the last 4 years, might respect the wishes of the people and not just their own wants.
I just joined the 50′s demographics and let me tell you we have plenty of natural resources at our disposal but congress won’t allow them be be used.

Obama is a slick politician, but he is empty inside, no substance, all style. Seeing him bumbling around when he loses his teleprompter is very revealing. He is someone’s puppet. He is an empty shell. The Manchurian Candidate. That’s what he reminds me of. Someone reboot him so he can go on will the speech. We don’t need style in the oval office. We need honesty, integrity, leadership, experience, and someone who sticks to his value system even when no one likes it.

He would be an even worse catastrophy than G.W Bush.

Posted by: Martin | August 26, 2008, 11:46 am 11:46 am

Do any of you so-called democrats for McCain actually know anything about him besides the fact that he isn’t Obama? Have you listened to his speeches, forums, and debates? At the forum with Rick Warren he says we should defeat the evil. Fightining evil only creates more evil. We need to prevent the birth of evil, then there will be no need to “defeat” it. This is why we need people like Obama, who are young, who look into the root of the problem and try to fix it. Throughout all Obama’s words at every event he was at you could hear how much he cares about people, he cares about YOU. So why would you vote for someone who instead cares about money in his pocket, killing innocent people (Iraq – destroyed, now lets try Iran and so on), who would rather send your sons and daughters to useless but expensive war instead of giving more funds to schools, to healthcare, who is for tax breaks for the rich, who answers questions not from his heart (like Obama) but from the standpoing of pleasing people and winning their votes?

I just don’t understand Hillary supporters now going over to McCain… why would you completely 180 degree change your stance on the majority of your views just because your candidate didn’t get the nomination? New flash, McCain will continue to fight against pro-choice policies (he said this explicitly at the Saddleback convention), will continue the fight in Iraq no matter if it bankrupts us or how ever many lives it needs to “win” (not just our soldiers mind you), and will continue the economic traditions of the Bush administration. Tax cuts for the wealthiest while everyone else just finds a way to fend for themselves. You guys need to accept that while Hillary is a very adept person, she ran a bad campaign and lost. Part of politics is appealing to the most people…Hillary wasn’t able to do that.
