Crashing the Democrats’ Party

ABC News’ John Berman and Ursula Fahy report: There are a couple of dozen people in Denver trying to crash the party.

Not just any people, but Republican people, set up in a two story building about a mile and half from the Pepsi Center.

So who invited them?

“We invited ourselves,” says Danny Diaz, the communications director for the Republican National Committee.

“We want to provide an opportunity to contrast,” says Diaz, “because ultimately that is what it comes down to.”

Inside their Denver headquarters is a room filled with TV monitors, and busy staffers working their e-mail and the Internet. There is a press conference room set up where the likes of Carly Fiorina, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani will all hold court. They even have their own satellite truck to help facilitate getting their message out.

Their first feat: The release of a new Democratic Convention slogan. The office is filled with posters that say, “Obama: a Mile High and an Inch Deep. Not Ready to Lead ’08.”

You get the sense you will hear the “not ready to lead” theme a lot this week.

If this all sounds like sour grapes, don’t worry, the Democrats are doing the same thing in St. Paul.

I’m sure Democrats will do the same at the Republican convention.
I can’t wait till the Presidential debates and the Vice Presidential debates.
You have McCain a terrible debater and Mitt Romney an okay debater but no competition for Biden.
Obama/Biden It’s a landslide baby.

I hope a group of republican’s will take a stand at the republican convention against the current neocon agenda. I am talking of course about the Ron Paul delegates. I would request that War Pigs by Black Sabbath gets played as the theme song.

Posted by: Huh | August 24, 2008, 7:49 pm 7:49 pm

Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death’s construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds.
Oh lord, yeah!
Politicians hide themselves away.
They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.
Time will tell on their power minds,
making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes, yeah.
Now in darkness world stops turning,
ashes where the bodies burning.
No more War Pigs have the power,
Hand of God has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, God is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercies for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.
Oh lord, yeah!
–Black Sabbath, War Pigs
Fitting isn’t it….

A big contrast is that Obama-Biden don’t want to lead America into a war but McCain-my friend is ready to lead America into a war at the drop of a hat.

@Huh, I too hope the Dr. Paul people make waves in St. Paul against this current republican insanity. They simply can’t admit that they have made some huge blunders.

Even before Obama’s acceptance speech is over, you can depend on Fox News having somebody like Rudy or Milt, originating from Denver, giving an interview tearing down Obama. That will be their sole purpose which is to tear down the Democratic speakers. Their dependable outlet – Fox News.

Vanessa,
Problem is, Obama is a horrendous debater. Look at Saddleback. Ok, not a debate but on the spot questions and he did poorly. In that case, look at how he did against Clinton. She tore him a new one several times.
McCain vs Clinton would have been an interesting debate. Two intelligent, experienced, knowledgeable people. Too bad we’re stuck with Obambi.

Posted by: JA | August 24, 2008, 7:56 pm 7:56 pm

JA – I think Obama will do fine. I would like to see Nader, Paul, and Barr in the debates to keep the nonsense coming out of the mouths of Obama and McCain in reality check.

Posted by: Ben Straub | August 24, 2008, 7:59 pm 7:59 pm

Saddleback I admit was a bad night for Obama. I’m sure McCain would perform the same if he were being questioned on liberal questions.
However, have you seen Obama debate and then watched McCain? It’s almost unfair on McCain part. He [McCain] stands no chance.
The situation is even worse for Romney. He too stands no chance against Biden.

Posted by: Vanessa | August 24, 2008, 8:05 pm 8:05 pm

Vanessa – I watched the republican debates. Paul made McCain look like a lying fool. I think Obama will do fine.

Huh-I agree with the song choice. I hope I get to see the “Day of Judgment” for possibly the biggest foreign policy blunder in US history. Just my opinion of course.

Uh, um, uh, duh.

Not only Paul. Romney too; which will play in the Dems favor if he’s McCain choice (likely) for VP. The ads will be endless.

Posted by: Vanessa | August 24, 2008, 8:11 pm 8:11 pm

There is a video I saw on You Tube where McCain’s teleprompter actually did malfunction, and he was at a loss for words. It was hilarious. You need to be careful about your comments. Ron Paul.

Posted by: Ben Straub | August 24, 2008, 8:13 pm 8:13 pm

Even with a teleprompter McCain is horrible. The night Obama captured the Democratic nomination; McCain speech w/ a teleprompter was laughable.

Posted by: Vanessa | August 24, 2008, 8:16 pm 8:16 pm

david from texas – Republicans are also divided. I am a registered republican who despises our current policies under a republican administration. There are many republican folks like me that are protesting and making ourselves heard at republican events. Our party no longer is conservative, no longer fiscally responsible, and no longer moral. Pretty much sucks. It is now the democratic’s turn to screw things up, if for no better reason than the fact that republicans need to be punished for the last 8 years.

Posted by: Ben Straub | August 24, 2008, 8:20 pm 8:20 pm

Harvey – I have to disagree. I have been to the republican primary conventions, and the republicans are divided. It is true that many are loyal, but a large minority are very unhappy with current policies. I would also like to say that unlike you, I don’t necessarily care who wins, as long as that person makes policy in the best interests of the American people. Bombing Iran is evil and misguided and at the core of McCain’s beliefs. This go around, this republican chooses Obama over McCain simply because of foreign policy. I would obviously choose Ron Paul or Bob Barr over Obama.

The Republicans are classless and an embarrassment. Their own candidate is horrible so they are doing everything including making up stuff about Obama. They are playing the American people for fools. And I guess we are…we voted George W. in twice. The Republicans have made a disgrace of this country. They only care about power…power for wealthy people and power for corporations. How sad.

Posted by: jennie | August 24, 2008, 8:32 pm 8:32 pm

McCain is ticking time bomb waiting to explode. And after the debates America will know.
With McCain comes a war with Iraq, Iran, Afganistan and a possible cold war with Russia.
We can’t afford a McCain presidency. Obama is up by 6 in the latest abcnews polls equaling a potential landslide.

Posted by: Vanessa | August 24, 2008, 8:43 pm 8:43 pm

Poor Obama, he doesn’t stand a chance at the debates.
And the dems will be on pins and needles as they hope & pray Biden goes the next few months without a huge gaffe. And we all know he’ll have one.

Posted by: Jo | August 24, 2008, 8:49 pm 8:49 pm

“Biden is MUCH like McCain when it comes to foreign affairs”
except he doesn’t want to “bomb bomb bomb Iran”. He doesn’t want to fly out accusations towards Russia knowing we will need Russia to get to Iran. HMMM… he wants to withdraw from Iraq and also ADMITS voting for the Iraqi war was a mistake.

@Doug, I remember my father at 72 years of age, boy, if he was awaken by the infamous 3:00 am call or other ruckus he’d, put his hand on his gun (former police officer and veteran)- first thought. So, can you imagine McCain at 3:00am – “Let’s get it On” paranoid response…he’s too old, he’s stuck in his POW day’s that’s not good for us.

Cindy Hensley McCain is not an only child as she claims. She has two sisters, one from her Dad’s first marriage and one from her Mother’s first marriage. After burying her Father she has cut her sisters off completely and claims she is an only child. What a sick selfish individual, typical Republican, money is their god.

I think it’s going to be pretty hard for the Republicans to distract durng this Hollywood celebrity ego fest, with Obama putting himself in the center on Thursday doing his best Denzil. This guy feeds on adulation and his use of a prompter is A+….but McCain has been going out into the crowd with an uncensored mike to town halls weekly and answering anything and everything. He will be quicker and more intellingent when speaking to the American people during the 3 debates Obama has agreed to (the most minimal he could push for).
He was a disaster at Saddleback and they will hopefully be rerunning it in the weeks to come.

Nothing on Obama or Biden will ever mount to McCain not being able to state how many homes he owns.
And then to add Romney. A man worth $202 million.
The combine wealth with the addition on Ronmey of the Republican ticket would be $348 million. No wonder they’re economic policy is aimed towards the rich.
The COMBINED wealth of Obama and Biden is $1.4 million.

david from texas – You make some interesting points. Obviously you are a partisan foot soldier in the republican camp. To me the thing that is important is to make this country financially solvent. Obama’s platform offers tax and spend mentality for entitlement programs that we can’t afford. McCain’s platform offers a borrow and spend mentality for oversees adventures that we can’t afford. Obama has even abandoned his antiwar persona for a more interventionist approach. To me both are for big government that we can’t pay for. I would advise everyone to look outside of the two party system if you want true positive change.

Biden is the perfect pick. He could attack McCain or every issue and Obama comes off clean. He also brings foreign policy to the ticket (the only issue McCain leads Obama). And he’s also a GREAT debater.

May-be they will keep this post since it’s from ABC “ABC News’ Anamarie Rebori reports: Sen. John McCain made clear this weekend that when it comes to fixing Social Security, “everything is on the table,” including a possible payroll tax increase.
“There is nothing I would take off the table. There was nothing I would demand,” McCain told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview on “This Week.” “I think that’s the way that Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neill did it — and that’s what we have to do again.”
When asked if that includes a possible hike in the payroll tax, McCain reiterated that nothing — including such a tax hike — is “off the table.”

I thought Obama killed Hillary on the fact that she was old washington and that he would bring change. Biden is change? What a crock! Obama showed lack of judgement in pushing his change theme with this pick. Biden isn’t stupid, the problem is he won’t shut up long enough for people to realize it.

Obama obviously searches for what the “people want to hear.” McCain appears to speak honestly. Hypocrisy discusts me. The recent attack ad run on McCains wife was uncalled for. Particularly after all of the boo hooing when Obama’s wife was criticized.
Now, of course, I can’t support Obamas ludicrous tax plan, and I have a feeling my tire gauge won’t help me save much money. He has no viable solutions for ANY of our problems. He talks a good, general game, but has no specific plan for anything. I think the majority of the american population see right through him.
McCain is not my choice for president. There are other, better choices (Ron Paul at the top of my libertarian list.) However, faced with this hideous choice, I have to take McCain — Hands down, no second thoughts. In fact, I am so against Obama, as opposed to FOR McCain, for the first time in many years, I am voting republican as opposed to independant. Anyone who says Obama is clueless without a teleprompter better just get up–away from their computer because surely they have grown double. The Republican machine is set to lose power and they know it. As party to the Bush-Cheney administration, the Republicans have a lot of explaining to do and thus far all they have is ad-hominem attacks on a man who is running on the other side of wrong. Obama will win. America is better than the Texas oilmen.

Vanessa:
First: Didn’t your parents teach you any manners….(apparently not, my bag).
Second: I don’t believe for a MINUTE that McCain did not listen to the questions prior to attending the FORUM. How convenient he was sitting in the limo waiting for his turn. You can’t hardly believe he was that quick to answer – if he didn’t hear the questions ahead of time….you can’t be THAT dense (or maybe you are).
I’m really tired of small minded people (see yourself in that statement ?? – you should).
