DNC to Give Reporters McCain Convention ‘Survival Kit’

ABC News’ Jennifer Parker reports: In advance of the Republican National Convention next week in Minneapolis-St. Paul, the Democratic National Convention is giving reporters in Denver a "survival kit." ABC News has obtained the DNC’s opposition kit. Inside an envelope labeled "DNC at the RNC: The McCain Files: A Survival Kit for Reporters," are press credentials to the Democratic Party’s "More of the Same Media War Room" in St. Paul. The packet also contains a flash drive with Democratic party "opposition research" against Republican nominee John McCain, as well as extra strength pain reliever, antacids, Pay Day and 100 Grand candy bars, and a button that reads "Ask me how many houses I own." It also has a McCain-themed crossword puzzle "to help you prepare, and pass the time, on the flight," reads a press release from the Democratic National Convention. Clues include "income levels that meet McCain’s definition of rich." "While you’re there, we’ll make sure you have everything you need to cut through the convention spin," the DNC release reads. On the flash drive is a black and white jpeg image of the John McCain–President George Bush embrace during the 2004 campaign, six web attack ads against McCain, Democratic "fact checks" on McCain statements, and a "What Republicans Are Saying About John McCain" document with criticisms that McCain lawmakers have made over the years.

That’s OK, Republicans are selling togas at the entrance to the Mile High stadium, one shouldered and one with a little more coverage for the modest Dems who still cling to guns and religion!

Well, at the rate the poll stands within the last few days, who knows if the DNC will need the kits for themselves but they will need to enclose the picture of Rezko in it. Go PUMA !

Look up John’s brother Joe’s comments about the McCain family:
1. It shows Cindy mirroring the role his mother had when he was a boy.
2. Shows his family was Navy royalty with both father and grandfather being admirals.
3. Shows how out of touch the McCains are with average people — Mom was managing the oil leases [my mom did that too LOL!] and John knows how Americans are because he serves on a committee.
4. Finally, brains don’t flow on the male side as dad and grandpa finished near the bottom of their classes along with John.
Joe is quoted as saying “The person who took care of all the business was my mother. My father had no idea about the family business, what oil leases he owned in Oklahoma.”
Joe McCain lives in the Northern Virginia suburbs recalls that “one time, [John McCain's mother] bought a house to remodel” in Southeast Washington while “[dad] was at sea.”
John McCain’s years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam and as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee also help him “emphasize with the American people” on pocketbook issues, Joe McCain said. [LOL]
John McCain was a less-than-stellar student who graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy.
“By the way, that’s a McCain tradition,” Joe says. “My father and grandfather, both four-star admirals, and they graduated in the bottom fourth of their class, too.”

How many Hillary supporters who are now voting for McCain actually voted for Kerry? McCain doesn’t support any of Hillary’s positions. Sounds odd to me that someone would vote for McCain who disagrees with Hillary on every important vote. Yeah right!

Very clever; the Obama campaign will not be shy or intimidated by the McCain campaign’s Rovian negativity and attack dog’s lashing out. U.S. history is in the making and John McCain and his old style political games will be taking a second place. They know this; the agressive attacks of Obama during the DNC convention is a glaring example of the desperateness and attempts for damage control.

John McCain is stuck and is living by way of his POW experience of 40 years ago. Why else would he be seeking a “pity party” response by the voters. Also, this experience is not a qualification for Commander-In-Chief or being a chief executive. McCain, by his actions and statements, wants the POW experience to serve as an entitlement for the Presidency which does not and should not compute with the voters.
Additionally, another indicator of McCain being stuck in the past are his Cold War responses to National Security issues. The Cold War ended in 1990 and this is 2008, with new approaches available to resolve conflicts; the bogyman scare tactic is outmoded and unnecessary. Bush used it against Saddam to rally the American people to attack Iraq based on contrived justification and out right lies. John McCain offers a Bush III approach to National Security, a potential disaster in the making. No way!

At least Obama implemented changes to his party; pac money, federal lobbyist donations and have you read the Democratic platform? It is the most pro-woman’s platform ever. But never the less, this election is about what direction we as American’s want to go. Republicans have had 8 years to lead. What the hell did we get from it? Are you better off? Since his second term it has become clear that the Republican Party has become inbred in ideas and personalities with horrible results for our nation and the average person.
The Republicans we have now don’t want less government, they want government to make opportunity less fairly distributed and to engage in stupid foreign policy.

It is really sad reading and listening to the rants that both groups sling back and forth at each other. Neither group has taken the high road, the republicans nor the democrats so don’t try to tell me that it is one-sided.
Now in saying that, the democrats are preaching party unity. That’s all fine and good but what we as a country need far more is COUNTRY unity. After the attacks on our homeland on 9/11, Americans came together in a way that I have not seen in my adult life. The American flag was waved in front of houses, on clothing, on cars, etc. We need to remember that lesson of country first before party line.
In evaluating both choices, the only logical choice for me to vote is McCain. He has a proven record of reaching across party lines and standing for what he believes in, not what his party believes in. He has worked with Republicans, Bush, Guiliani, Powell, as well as democrats, Hillary, Feingold, Lieberman, Kerry, Biden, etc. In fact both Kerry and Biden both played with the idea of putting McCain on the same ticket.
Hillary, of course, also stated that McCain would bring experience to the White House. Are those just words? I don’t think so.
Obama and the democrats would like to paint McCain with the same brush as Bush, but anyone who has seen these two together for many years knows that their relationship has been mostly adversarial than friendly. He is not afraid of telling it like it is even though some would rather not hear it. If the surge had not worked in Iraq like he said it would, he would not have been the republican nominee. Even though he took a political risk to strongly speak in favor of this unpopular stance, he continued on pursuing what he thought was right.
Even though I am termed as a conservative, I believe we need a leader who is a moderate and centrist to unite the COUNTRY not the party. Electing 2 of the most liberal congressmen with having Nancy Pelosi as speaker will not bring unity to this country.

He has it all laid out in an easy to read form for people like you to understand. Posted by: gl | August 27, 2008, 11:44 pm 11:44 pm

gl, really man you don’t know your facts. Obama wants to raise taxes higher than Bill Clinton, which was the highest in history. He wants to tax the heck out of the middle class, give to the poor, and tax the wealthy for all of his socialist programs. Why should the hardworking people give to the people who either don’t want to work or don’t have the initiative to further their education to succeed in life. Why should I work my a$$ off to fund Joe Blows drug habit. The wealthy will just get the money back from the middle class by raising the prices on their goods. High taxes=high inflation. Obama’s programs are so far out there it is really impossible to accomplish because there isn’t enough money in the entire U.S. to pay for it. He is telling you what you want to hear and you are falling for it hook, line and sinker. Oh, but maybe you are thinking of Jesus who made 5 loaves of bread feed 5,000, Sorry your Obama cannot turn $5 into $5 trillion. Look beyond the color of his skin and look at the person underneath, he is a socialist,anti-american, loser!!!!

I would love for McCain to come out humbly next week with no fireworks, no rock stars, no egos, and just be the All American he is and tell us how much he wants to work for this great country. I will pray for the Rep. Convention and also the hurricane to not touch land and take over the news.
Obama has no resume and this job is too precious to just hand over to a guy because he is black.

Fair play. I will not vote for more of the same. more tax breaks for wealthiest americans, big oil, disregard for women and an elitist John McCain who does not know how many houses he owns. God save America

I suspect that those promoting McCain in 08 and Hillary in 12 are Republican diehards. The stance makes no sense at all. McCain’s “ideas” (for lack of a better word) do not at all match with Hillary’s positions. One could not logically support both. I think when your in deep trouble people lose their senses and will take desprite actions. If so Republicans know they are going down big in the coming election. They are trying to avoid another 40 years in the wilderness. Think it is unavoidable. They can now become one with the Democrats blaming Bush for the miserable job he did as president.

I am so tired by all the comments about John McCain and his second marriage to Cindy. Cindy and John have been married for more than twenty years now so the whole thing about him being an adulterer does not wash with me.
I am aware that John McCain and his first wife ended up with a divorce. What is interesting for those people who have been trying to stir up trouble, is that his first wife has never spoken out against him. Five years of captivity and being away from each other tends to change people. The end of his marriage was a two sided event. I am not condoning the divorce but let’s face facts that over 50% of marriages do end in divorce.
It is interesting that those people who do hit McCain on the end of his first marriage tend to forget the affairs in the White House by Clinton and even JFK. Also, John Edwards is not the poster boy for family values either.
We need to remember that our politicians are not perfect, even Obama has admitted use of illegal drugs, but we need to judge their policies and records.

Well, I think our country is safer with McCain. Obama will will not get Osama!!! Talk about failed policies, Bill should have been hiding his head when the vets were talking about the lack of armour on the Hum-V’s. All of those specs were changed under his watch because the military was not getting the funding they needed from their “Commander in Cheap!”. I saw the inards of the Clinton admin and it makes me sick the way he and his beloved Mrs treated the military – they had disdain for them – Hillary once made a comment “the boys in uniform look good serving drinks (at one of their $1M/plate socials), don’t they!”. As for Obama and McCain – God help us! I will vote for the lesser of the 2 evils, McCain. I am not sure that I could trust a President who thinks he can sit down and talk to a terrorist!

Posted by: Tom S. | August 28, 2008, 8:59 am 8:59 am

McCain will lead with an iron fist – Obama will talk mumbo-jumbo about nothing and be a failure as president. Stop bashing Bush so much for the failed presidency and put the blame where it should be. Congress is really unbalanced to the Democratic side and they have put the screws to the ability of anyone to be a good president. My wonderful country suffered an attack on Her soil on 9/11 and George Bush stood up to the attachers and potential threats that were out there! The Democratic congress has done and said (w/ the help of the democratic media)whatever it can to undermine the CoC. That is treason – I don’t agree with everything that Bush does, but Congress has been guilty of basically treason for their actions against the leader of the country. Perlosi is a main character in this. If McCain gives us 4 more yrs of the Bush administration – well at least we can figure on not having to convert to the beliefs of the terrorist! Wow, such a terrible president has kept us safe since 9/11 – I’ll take that! The dems favorite thing is putting sanctions against people – their answer may have been “Well, OK Obama – I mean Osama, you cannot buy any of our rice!”. Please, this country is in enough trouble – don’t vote for Obama just because he is a different party! Be smart with you vote and pick a leader that will DEFEND our country! Obama says he offers change – I don’t know about you – but I LOVE MY FREEDOM and I think his change will be for America to loose that!

Yep…when we elected Bush, Oil was $21 a barrel! The terrorists were in Afghanistan. Ah but it was more important to go to Iraq ta remove WMD’s…I mean to remove evil dictator… I mean to rebuild their country. Never mind that they have all that oil…US Taxpayers will pick up the tab.

Tom S – did you conveniently forget that the repubs had control in congress for the first 6 years of Dubya’s reign? His iron-fisted rule has led America into disastrous times. And he STILL has not gotten bin laden, the reported mastermind of 9/11. I would rather have a leader with intelligence and rational thought. Mccain has neither…..

mtr2311: Here we go; Another poster mentioning Obama & Rezko – that issue is dead. Why don’t we include a picture of JOSEPH BONANO, from the NY Crime Family who has ties to your hero, McCain? In case you’re not sure what that means; John McCain has ties to the MAFIA and has accepted money from the Mafia.
McCain – MAFIA CONNECTIONS
McCain – ADULTERER
McCain – Liar
McCain – Senile, early on-set Alzheimers
McCain – Makes his wife stand & walk BEHIND him, NEVER BESIDE him.

Mr McCain DID serve his military time honorably…He Was a POW in Viet Nam. HEROES rescued him. Now he is a POW to the RNC. He has memorized his responses well. Mr Obama, uses his brain and responds with answers from his heart. This may cost him, as he goes against the mighty smear machine. Only in America can a “Pet Rock” be sold for five bucks

I am sick of McWar ‘experience”, when he does NOT have judgment EVEN NOW to agree, that Iraq’s war was a mistake.
Circling around serge he could NOT figure out the right way WHEN exactly things were changed on the ground.
What, a hell, experience does he have, when he could not name countries, partners, boarders.
I am sick of this low-intellectual “leader” on the Bush-Rove’s leash, military paranoiac, who is EXTREMELY dangerous for my country .
Extremely wrong
Extremely out of touch
Extremely dangerous.
Normal people would not bid on “A-La-Bush” experience.
And there are lots of us.

McCain has NOTHING to offer but negative rhetoric and personal attacks.
I have yet to hear anything convincing from him, about what he will do for working people in this country. Oh sure, he’ll continue to support Iraqi people (if they allow us to stay), but what about us ?????
It’s very easy to attack someone personally, and it’s usually when you haven’t got the FACTS on your side.
McCain is good at that. In the age of You Tube; freedom of information; and just the Senate Record. . .McCain will be EXPOSED for the Neocon he is. . .and THAT my friends, will be the End of the GOP grip on Washington !!!!
This election is NOT a video game. . .we need Leadership, and McCain ain’t got it !!!!!

I would love to see a president that will forget about TAXING the hell out of me and start off by going to all of the countries that owe us big money and make them pay something back. I mean, I work hard for my money and I get taxed to death. I would love to have it like some of our so-called allied countries have it. They have loans from back to WW I that they haven’t begun to pay us on. I mean the interest alone would get us out from under the huge National depth that we have. So let this be one of the issues that our next president makes as part of their campaign. As a rallying cry, the US tax payers should unite and tell Obama and McCain “Don’t tax us – go get the money that is owed by the foriegn leaders of the world” – “Don’t burden me – go get the money from over the sea!!!”. That is it – I am running for the Independent Ticket of Beleagured Tax Payers. My main objective is to get the money that all of these countries owe us, and my slogan will be “Don’t Burden Me – I’m gonna get the money from over the sea!!!”. So who is behind me???

When Republicans passed the torch to Bush, he torched this nation, and a couple of others for good measure. Bad enough. But now they’re actually passing the torch back to an older generation. Is it because they broke the toy they’ve been to play with, and don’t know how to fix? is it the realization that adult supervision is maybe a good thing after all? Is it because they just give up? Is it because they’ve run out of excuses who to blame for breaking it?

Mary – you fear Obama??
You should fear McCain. Why would anyone want a hot-headed, aggressive, senile old man with his finger on the button. Haven’t you realized that McCain wants to put America (and the world) into World War III?? Look at the trouble he tried to cause during the Georgia/Russia incident; that is until McCain was basically told to shut up. McCain is not mentally stable and will destroy the US in more ways than one. BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID OF MCCAIN.

SeaRamblerOne, No I remember that the repubs held congress back then and that is probably why Bush was able to get the votes needed to go after Iraq. Like I said – I don’t agree with all that Bush has done! I do believe that a show of force was needed to let the terrorist know that we mean business – sure I would have waited to take out Hussein and went hell bent into the rocks to get “The Tall One”, but the vote was put out there and neither side fought against it. Part of the problem was the NSA had no intelligence that could deny the WMDs (mainly because of budget cuts made during the Clinton years and Clinton’s desires to keep friendly w/ Iraq’s oil leaders and not investigate – but that’s another story). To turn you around a little bit, when did the crap hit the fan in this country? Seems like when the dems took over the house and all of the taxes started flying around for bogus stuff, our country started to FEEL the pains. Gas for example, was right around $2/gal then, now it is closer to $4. The taxes on gasoline have made Bush happy to, dems set him up good – he is reaping the bennies from that, so Big Oil is happy and they are padding the pockets of the dems and the repubs. Property taxes are jumping with nothing to show for it, food prices have increased under the new congress. Jobs have decreased since the NEW change. The congress is looking like the bad guys if you ask me. Bush is a fall guy because he cannot speak English that well. You go ahead and lay down your vote for Obama – but don’t you dare say anything if the country get’s attacked again! I heard Obama say several times that he wants to sit down and “Talk” with the leaders of Iran and Korea and such – you cannot trust them. The old saying was “You can trust a communist ….to be a communist” well, now “You can trust a terrorist….to be a terrorist!”. This country is in a lot of trouble and God’s saving grace has kept us safe, but evil is waiting for the right opportunity and it may come with this election. You have Obama or McCain, let’s pray that we make it for another 4 years!!!

i have long been a supporter of mccain. if he had beaten bush in 2000, i would have gladly voted for him. the conservative issues i believed in, he believed in.
and the last couple years rolled by, i saw him pander to the religious right, but ignored it: i knew he had to get them on board to win the election. i saw him go away from central core issues i thought he believed in. i tried to justify it by saying to myself that he needed to take some stands to help him win the election, and once in office, hopefully he would revert back to his old stances.
however, as someone who’s father served in vietnam (2 tours, 2 silver stars, 5 bronze stars), as someone whoi believes absolutely in our men and women in uniform, i have become disgusted by the mccain’s campaign teams’ use of his POW years. I have no problem with it being part of the narrative – it should be, it’s important, and central to understanding him and his character.
however, over the last few months, i have seen him time and again use his POW years as a sheidl from any kind of criticism, related to his years as POW or not – mostly not. the first couple times i tried to justify it. however, now it borders on parody. to be truthful, i believe it is shameful, and he does all vets and POW a great disservice by continually using it.
frankly, at this point….i am disgusted by it. now, i am sure that this isnt his idea – mccain is hnorable. his campaign is being run by folks who have no clue about military service and the sacrifices the troops and their families make. to use this POW thing to deflect criticism….it’s conduct unbecoming a man that used to wear the uniform. mccain has had every chance to say no…but he hasnt.
so Senator McCain: though i have always supported you, always wanted to make you president, i can longer do so, you have tarnished your own legacy,l tarnished your reputation, tarnished the uniform you once wore. i now, with much reluctance, will be voting for Obama. this is not something i want to do – and i will be voting republican in the congressional races so that the dems dont get control of 2 branches of the government.
But senator mccain: you have given me no choice. you have deeply dissappointed me on this issue.

Tom S. post of Aug 28, 2008
Actually yoiur facts are a bit distorted. According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics the average national price of gas jumped approximately $1.00 in 2005 – $2.20 to $3.20. Well before the 110th Congress was sworn. One could possibly blame Katrina and the damage it caused for that rise. On average prices dropped in 2005, then rose again to about $3.20 before the 110th Congress was sworn.
After the 110th Congress was sworn gas prices took another dip. Then the speculators became involved and crude oil prices shot through the roof in the following years. Taxes at the pump didn’t rise, the price of crude skyrocketed. The Republicans had a bullet-proof ability to stall any legislation in the Senate during the last two years of the Democratic majority. It’s called a filibuster. That is why the Democrats need a sixty seat majority for cloture. Clinton’s military worked pretty well in the real war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The housing market was a disaster waiting to happen thanks to the Republican’s desire to remove any and all regulations from the market. Property taxes are local and cannot be blamed on Congress. If you want a decent roads and bridges they have to be paid for somehow – who better than the people that use them who are identified by buying gasoline. Taxes on gasoline don’t make Bush and Cheney happy, the winfall practices the oil companies reap from speculators causing prices to rise make that pair happy.

Does anyone remember when Clinton, the first black president, and Al Gore brought the national debt into the black ?

Obama has it wrong, because it’s a myth that we need more college graduates. Research on college graduates shows that the market has an excess of college graduates. College graduates can’t find jobs that are suitable and end up taking jobs that only need a high school diploma and for low pay. In 2003, sociologist David Wright from Kansas advised “28 percent of people with a college education work in a job that requires a high school education or less, it’s a sad statistic.”
We do need more high school graduates, and for graduates to earn degrees which will be useful, so education is important.

Comments trying to make McCain seem stupid for graduating at the bottom of his class at one of the nation’s top academic institutions are instant fail.
Having attended, I can say that the Naval Academy has ludicrously rigorous academic standards.

I don’t know if all these posts are really coming from “Hillary supporters” or some right wing operative with too much time on their hands. But if you really consider your self a dem. or a person who believes in the basic principles of democracy you wouldn’t be considering voting McCain. What are you basing your votes on? You would really rather vote for a an anti-woman, anti-gay, oil industry shill and war profiteer, because while you call your selves Democrats, you’re still to much of a bigot to be able to picture an African American in the White house. It’s indiscernible dribble like this that really makes me worry about the direction this country has chosen.

Posted by: Huck | August 29, 2008, 12:07 pm 12:07 pm

How typical it is of true bigots to assume people who don’t support Obama do so because of some irrational hatred. You know, it’s possible to disagree with a candidate’s stances while not caring about his skin color.

Amazing audacity that DNC needs to write a GOP convention guide for Dummies to hand out to the media. I’d be interested in hearing the media’s reaction to the DNC’s insinuation that the incompetent media can’t think or do their jobs without the help of the DNC. No doubt, the media will be indebted to the DNC forever for their help in the primary and during the conventions.
