Hillary in Elevator Mishap*

DENVER, Colo. — Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., was already not having the Democratic National Convention that she’d been hoping for, her and her husband’s well-received speeches notwithstanding.

Then it got worse.

After Wednesday night’s festivities ended, there was a minor elevator mishap at the Pepsi Center that involved Clinton, sources tell ABC News.

Apparently, the elevator got stuck between floors, stranding Clinton and others for several minutes. For about five minutes inside the elevator, it was "hectic" and not a little claustrophobic — the elevator was overpacked, which is why it stopped, a source says. The doors needed to be pushed open, and some of those in the elevator — a couple of Secret Service agents — needed to be lifted and squeezed out in order for it to start moving again.

Clinton was seen leaving the scene looking a tad shellshocked, but an aide said, "She’s fine."

* This post has been updated. Originally, per a witness report, it reported that Clinton, herself, had to be squeezed out of the elevator between floors, but a Clinton spokesperson says that isn’t true.

…interesting, and perhaps sadly symbolic? I also thought it was odd that Senator Feinstein couldn’t make it to the convention due to a sudden mishap.
By the way it seems like Focus on the Family’s prayers may be answered for a big storm during the convention, but they maybe forgot to specify which convention…(saw an article on Politico about the storm’s possible effects on the RNC).
Anyway, I hope it dissipates as soon as possible as it’s already been fatal.
I wonder if Focus on the Family is thinking it’s probably not a good idea to pray for ill for anyone, even as a little joke.

Not having the roll call was Hillary Clinton’s choice. Judging from her sincere performance last night and the happiness she exuded tonight, it was a choice she was at peace with. She evidently wasn’t as resilient with being trapped in an elevator.

I applaud both Hillary and Bill on their for differences with Obama behind them. This just shows the class act both of them have always have been.
I am leaning towards voting for Obama unless something comes up within the next two months. He is the lesser of the two evils.

What I meant was that I am glad they put their differences with Obama behind them.
I am also glad Hillary wasn’t hurt in that little mishap. I had that happen when I was little with my dad in Italy and it is scary!

hillary and bill looked radiant, happy and perhaps relieved to have the convention (they had to go in and save for the democrats) behind them. face it, if obama loses they would have blamed it on hillary. now their is nobody left to blame, the clintons did their share and they did it brilliantly, eloquently, and passionately.

I know many who are firmly determined not to vote for Obama this year. They may or may not vote for McCain though.
The Clintons are so good — they really are the pillars of the democratic party.
Unfortunately, DNC is forcing the most unelectable candidate this year onto us. Obama is unelectable. He is not Bill — this would be so easy for the Republicans to approve. Bill was governor for 10 years when he ran for president. He did not have so many questionable associates back then. He did not make many stupid lines like Obama did. He also was not a make-believe person like Obama.
It is going to be a close election, if not a landslide win for McCain.

MY guess is the Obama people didnt get the Pepsi Centers elevators inspected…. OOOPS… minor oversight! The Democratic Leaders made a grievous error by nominating Obama… they will soon see that! Hillary was the best candidate… and just like Bush won on a technicality Obama did as well… Obama has mirrored GW Bushes campaigns to the letter…can you say Roves help did it!

Posted by: Staniam | August 28, 2008, 2:42 am 2:42 am

Debra
yea they were given speeches to make even when Obama said on monday that Pres Clinton could say what he wanted …and Hillary couldve not messed with stopping the roll call vote… it was not legitimate being made in the afternoon anyway… she just wanted to make sure she is a landslide victor in 2012 which she will be… it follows the narrative of how Bill Clinton beat the republicans after 12 yyrs of republicans in the white house in 1992… Obama is just supremely lucky… that is all!

Posted by: staniam | August 28, 2008, 2:46 am 2:46 am

Hillary and Bill Clinton have once again shown that they are the best the Democrats have to offer. And they were rewarded with Dean, Pelosi and Co. nominating one of the worst the Dems have to offer. Obie is unelectable. And he should not be elected. He is unqualified, dishonest and arrogant. What a combo platter.
And to top it all off, now we have the verbose and extremely gaffe-prone Senator Biden riding shotgun. He gave Senator Obama no bump whatsoever. Great pick. lol.

The fact of the matter is that if Hillary’s people do not help America and the democratic party in this election, they will never see Hillary as a president.
Hillary and Bill gave the best of themselves to this country and they do not deserve our betrayal. They are asking us to vote for Obama because this is the best for the country, the party and themselves and their future.
They have not betray us, and we should not betray them by going with CAIN.
If we lose women’s rights due to Cain’s judges elections…
If our families are draft to war…
Hillary will not be able to help us in the next election and our country and our future will be doomed due to our destructive anger.

“The fact of the matter is that if Hillary’s people do not help America and the democratic party in this election, they will never see Hillary as a president.”
Two things that would be devastating for the United States:
1) Barack Obama as President.
2) Hillary Clinton as President.
I do, indeed, hope that “Hillary’s people” stay home in droves on November 4th, or else vote Republican.
“Hillary and Bill gave the best of themselves to this country and they do not deserve our betrayal. They are asking us to vote for Obama because this is the best for the country, the party and themselves and their future.”
Hillary and Bill gave us eight years of a dysfunctional “co-presidency” that–among other things–threatened to saddle us with Canada-style health care problems, introduced us to Whitewater, and made us how Vince Foster could possibly have committed suicide.
Oh, and Bill was impeached. Cited for contempt of court, too. Even had his law license yanked. Couple of real gems, those two.
“They have not betray us, and we should not betray them by going with CAIN.”
They betrayed the national trust over and over and over again. Reading some recent history would help you with your point of view.
And the presumptive Republican nominee’s last name is “McCain,” not “Cain,” and certainly not “CAIN.”
“If we lose women’s rights due to Cain’s judges elections…”
Are you thinking that Supreme Court justices picked by John McCain will take away women’s voting rights? Laughable, if that’s the case. Ah, but perhaps you’re referring to a woman’s “right” to kill her child before that child is born. Is that the right you don’t want women to lose?
“If our families are draft to war…”
No, John McCain doesn’t want to draft families. You’re thinking of Islamic terrorists, who “draft” women, children, and the mentally disabled to wear bombs and use them to blow up civilians. And themselves.
“Hillary will not be able to help us in the next election and our country and our future will be doomed due to our destructive anger.”
Here, we agree. However, Hillary was never in a position to “help us” in the first place.

i’am a single mom with 2 kids, i attend school part-time and work full-time. my oldest teenage son has a part-time job after school and on weekends. this year we bought our first home (within our budget) we pay our bills, and to save on gas we ride our bikes and use public transportation. riding our bikes is good for our health, less dependence on our car has been a blessing. to supplement our budget we grow and sell (organically) most of our vegetables-another blessing which is teaching my children that food does not grow in the fridge. anyway i could go on but my point is that doom and gloom scenarios are intended to strike ‘fear of the other’ into your hearts instead of seeking more independence and self-reliance many are waiting for a politician to save them.
did we not learn anything from the gwb years? saddamm and weapons of mass destruction, the mushroom cloud, the doom and gloom scenarios that led to war. if you truly do not want more of the same please do not make your choice for a president based on fear.
i want TO HIRE a president that understands his job description which says that his primary duty is first and foremost to serve as commander in chief. which by the way means that he will command the most powerful military in the world. i don’t care if he is nice, green, orange, male, female, or gay, or cute, or if his family says wonderful things, or if he has cute kids, i want to know can he fulfill the duties ascribed to him as commander in chief as per his job description.

I bet Bill went back stage and threw up after that speach. Did anyone else notice Bill’s nose growing with each sentence? President Clinton’s speech “tone”, reminds me of the most popular girl in school saying to the least popular “I like your dress, your hair” etc. Just because Bill Clinton says Obama is ready and qualified, doesn’t make him so. As far as being too young and inexperienced for the job, at least Bill actually had a pretty well-rounded resume and actually held an executive office before he decided he was qualified enough to run for President. Hard to believe there’s someone out there with an ego even bigger than Bill’s.

Posted by: neil1785 | August 28, 2008, 8:10 am 8:10 am

bottom line is exactly these three questions…addressed in biden’s speech…
(and at this point if you think Biden is a blowhard you weren’t watching the guy’s life last night)
we need a wise leader not a good soldier.
Anyone who has been to question and answer sessions with both of these candidates McCain and Obama, knows how weel McCain does NOT do with any follow up questions. He is propped up for an election. Almost every other follow up is greeted with a joke or some tough 30 second sound bite you have heard a thousand times before. and if there is a third… the person who asked is cut off. Obama seriously tries to answer…and even if it is all for show…
and I have seen these guys over the past year and a half many times.
the next is has the last 8 years been good for you.
As much as everyone wants to spin it saying “oh John mcCain is not George Bush” no…but his promises and his policies are almost EXACTLY the same.
So if 8 years has been good for you then go with the guy promising not to change that plan (he may say we are going to change…but look at the details…they are almost EXACTLY the same).
John McCain was right on the surge bringing down violence…that’s it.
the only thin in foreign policy he has been right about…
what he was wrong on and obama was right on…is too much for this commentary… and as far as the surge goes…
the goal was political reconciliation so we could leave.
That goal is still far far off… maybe decades away. That is why mcCain wanted to stay…but McCain doesn’t care about the tax it is taking on our wallets, doesn’t prioritize what it has done to our and would continue to do our military, and has no understanding of how that would continue to be a stick in the hornet’s nest of aculture’s he has clearly shown he has no understanding of…
I think the selection is clear.

The press has destroyed the Clintons and now I feel like the superdelegates are nothing but a scam.
The only station that finally was able to display Obama’s qualities and issues was ABC and they were destroyed for their vetting process.
Obama is very radical, has a pastor full of hatred for America. This was his mentor.
Obama has ties wth Tony Rezko of Chicago and William Ayers, a terrorist.
Reverend Wright, Obama’s mentor of twenty years has embarrassed our first lady and white America.
Obama has an elitist attitude towards most of America.
He has a cocky attitude from his own dislike for his grudges against American politics.
This man has his own anger problems. Show me your friends and I will show you who you are:
Tony Rezko, a criminal from Chicago that Obama has know for years.
William Ayers, a terrorist that he worked on a board with in Chicago.
Pastor Wright, a supporter of anti-Semetic, Louis Farrakhan.
Al Sharpton, fighting for the states of Florida not to seat delegates.
Michelle Obama not being proud of her country until now.
This man will never survive against a war hero, John McCain.
I am saddened that the children and the media is controlling this electiion.

What has REALLY happened is Hillary has captured the hearts of her supporters, and much of America. During the primaries Hillary came into her own. She displayed integrity, patriotism, conviction and incredible strength. SHE gave HOPE to her supporters… real hope. Obama gave HYPE. The DNC, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid made sure we got HYPE. It wasn’t because we voted for it. Hillary had no control, nor did we in the outcome. Getting stuck between floors truly is symbolic of what happened to her. Let’s get her out folks, and take her to the top where she belongs.

Anyone, even me, could be coached where even my mother wouldn’t recognize me. That is what happened to Ms. Clinton after the primaries got started….even her staff didn’t like what they saw…so they changed her to be a “softer, kinder person. That was a hollywood stunt!!! Congratulations to Hillary and President Bill Clinton. They have shown genuine grace, compassion and love. I love the Clintons. The media continues to pour gasoline to make the stories sensational. Yes, like any person running a race regardless what it is (swimming, volleyball) is going to be exremely disappointed in not winning. Give Hillary and President Clinton from all you so-call pundits whiners.
All the delegates who gave their word to Hillary to support her, deserted her. They gave their word and went back on their word to support her. “you word should be your bond”, otherwise as a person you have lost you value if you cannot stand by your given wor. I dont trust the whole of of democrats anyone. They have broken their promises over and over.
Hillary will rise again with grace and dignity. I dont have time to listen to these political pundits, they generate alot of hot air.

Some of the pro-Obama comments on this message board remind me of what Froma Harrop at RCP wrote today:
“The Democrats clearly have a hooligan problem. It was as though their left-wingers suffered a kind of Karl Rove envy. They wanted to go on the attack, demonize a Clinton and hurl abuse at the Clinton’s friends. Only a year ago, Vanity Fair ran a cover story on how Clinton hatred had infected much of the right wing. The left seems to have grabbed the baton. And it apparently did not dawn on the Obama shock troops that they were offending the very people their man might someday need.”

Yet another example of how our infrastructure has crumbled after 8 years of Bushitler!!! Everything is falling apart: roads, bridges, and now elevators!!! They figured out how to demolish the WTC, why can’t they figure out how to keep elevators going!!! Even the economy is crumbling. Sure, it grew more than 3% last quarter, but that doesn’t mean anything, that’s just a number. And Obama knows that economics isn’t about numbers… it’s about how life is so terrible here in the US.

MaryLou:
The WorldNet Daily talks about 7/10ths of a perecentage point of the GNP going to the Global Poverty Act of the GNP, not 7 percent! (and this was before the economic downturn).
Sonia:
According to the Constitution, the President’s main job is to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Anyone such as McCain who supported George Bush for the last 8 years isn’t qualified to be President on that basis alone.
Obama is a Constitutional law expert while McCain finished 5th from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy.
And Geevill:
The economy isn’t doing well for most Americans with large and continuing job losses and when wages aren’t keeping up with a big uptick in inflation.
We need a President and Commander in Chief who is interested in reality, not telling absurd fairytales about the economy being great, or making up nonsense about Petraeus driving around Iraq without an armored vehicle, a story that got McCain laughed at up and down the line.

This travesty wouldn’t have happened under an Obama administration. Obama will have crack teams of 3 inspecting every elevator in America for defects and shut down any that are found to be lacking. Companies found to have defective elevators will be fined $250,000 for each defect found. That will send a message to corporate America – the message will be to get the heck out of America.

Okienole – You’re right about that. Low unemployment, low interest rates, low inflation and steady growth are GWB’s economic legacy coming off the heels of a recession handed to him from Clinton that began in the Spring of 2000 plus the attack on September 11, 2001. It is starting to go bad and the do nothing democrats like ‘save the planet’ Pelosi are a big part of the problem.

Yeah, right okienole, the Dems that have NEXT TO ZERO power because they DON’T have control of congress. They only have power to block, not pass, legislation because they can’t override a veto.
The economy is bad for one and only one reason and that’s the legislation the Republican party and the President (Bush) put through that lessened oversight, restrictions, and controls that in turn allowed the rampant fraud and mismanagement at corporate levels to take place.

phyllis
you can claim obama doesnt have experience, but as bill clinton stated, you republicans say thsi everytime… SO
heres a history lesson for you.
Ronald Reagan, who served as the President of the United States from 1981-1989, had only eight years of government experience – 3 fewer than Obama.
20th century Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson won the presidency despite having thin resumes(Wilson, for example, served a single two-year term as the Governor of New Jersey prior to becoming President).
This is a common myth perpetuated by the right and reinforced by Senator Clinton who had less elected and legislative experience than Obama. Additionally, both Bush and Bill Clinton had less foreign policy experience than Senator Obama.
And of course, as well as Senator Obama’s 8 years in the State Senate of Illinois and 3 years in Congress, a total of 11 years in elected office, he has something that is probably more important and more relevant to becoming President than any one of the candidates who vied for the Presidency this year, and that is his years spent teaching constitutional law.
Since George Bush has repeatedly wiped his boots on the constitution, I can’t think of a better qualification than Senator Obama’s experience as a constitutional Law Professor for the University of Chicago and his his civil rights experience as a lawyer.

McCain is the person who is stuck between floors politically – between the straight-talking maverick image that he carefully cultivated for so long and the deceptive, self-absorbed, contemptuous ultra-conservative base that W. pandered to for eight years and that McCain is turning back-flips to cater to now.

Dan,
The POTUS who DID leave a recession for his successor was BJ Clinton. Do you people know nothing? Whether or not GWB will leave one for his is yet to be seen. How is it that ALL of the Obomots are totally irrational people?
A good slogan for The One would be: Government of the stupid, by the stupid, and for the stupid. Six months ago I asked for one thing that barry boy has accomplished. I am still waiting to hear it.

MOVE OUT!”
Best comeback, ever & always!
The people who constantly whine & complain about what a BAD country this is and the BAD shape it’s in, (including pelosi, reid, obama) should spend a year in N.Korea or China. Live among the regular folks. Work like they do, eat what they eat and live by their rules.
You haven’t a clue about BAD.
When you return home you would hug GWB and kiss this great ground and thank God to be home.

Clintons played this convention right.
The first 3 days were about the Clintons (drama, suspense – what will Bill and Hillary do?).
The last day Obama is not even in the Convention Hall, but out in a football stadium.
This is the worst, most unfocused, confused, controlled political convention I have ever seen.
In November, the first person to be fired in the Democratic Party should be Howard Dean…after the wake for losing the Presidency…again.

THEN it is either they are so smart in the deceiving; or majority people are so dumb to recognize the truth. Not all voters make the decision for President, based on media stories, campaign hype, party officials, or enthused partisan bloggers. Some just quietly do their own research of a cross-section of both left and right wing sources, check their gut instincts and then put their Country before Party. In this case, I know of thousands of HRC PUMA’s and undecided independent voters, male and female, have already decided to entrust their vote to the man they feel will, and has already courageously demonstrated, he will put his Country First. John McCain 2008.

Bob – the economy is up due to tax rebates , and the falling dollar. We are and the rebates are over so the economy will start to slip again unless we haul out the old federal credit card again.

Welcome to the real world of ordinary people, which elected officials leave when they become “royalty” and live off ordinary people for the remainder of their lives, regardless of service, or the lack thereof. Posted by: AG | August 28, 2008, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm

Cheryl,
I’m afraid I just don’t understand the “no settling” argument.
It isn’t as if you’ll be insulated from the process by not voting–you’ll have to live with the results like the rest of us. You will be settling for someone, vote or no vote. The question is whether you will settle for the party that will advance Clinton-like policies or the party that will seek to push more intolerance, war, and tax policies that say ‘drop dead’ to the next generation of Americans.
How can it be that the politicians are more important than the policies that affect all of us Americans? How can it be that a Clinton supporter could sit passively by while an opportunity to avoid the outcome of that latter set of policies presents itself? What will be left of the Democratic party (Hillary Clinton included) if we cannot muster a victory over that belligerent fool whose public speaking channels GW Bush, who jokes crassly about Chelsea Clinton to smoke-filled rooms of his donors (have you heard about this joke?), who professes ignorance regarding the fundamental issues of this election.
Obama may be many things to you, but surely he must be the “best worst” of the two candidates. They sure as hell are not equal. Democrats need you for something larger than one person. Please do not let us down.

The truth that everyone knows is that genuine conservatives, though they’re not shouting it now, will NEVER vote for an ADULTERER. Forget the scandals, the bribery, the senility, the houses, the war. True Christian Conservatives will be physically unable of putting a KNOWN ADULTERER in the White House. The enemy collaborator stuff (awww, all that standing gets uncomfortable after a while, doesn’t it?) probably won’t bother them as much – it’s the ADULTERY, stupid!

Posted by: adulterous | August 28, 2008, 12:36 pm 12:36 pm

Congress has the lowest approval rating ever. Could it be that they are not doing anything on purpose? With the War in Iraq going better after the surge and a withdraw schedule being agreed to, is it possible they are hoping things go bad and stay bad until the election? Lets look back to the end of the year in 2006 gas was a lot lower, the stock market was high, unemployment was low, consumer confidence was high. Then come the Democrats and the Government has done nothing, well almost nothing they did investigate steroid use in baseball, a major American concern…Pelosi sent the Democrats on a 5 week vacation without addressing the high price of gasoline..Well what a surprise know her stock in T Boone Pickens company will go even higher than the 300% increase she has enjoyed on the 50,000- 100,000 she invested on the original public offering. I mean if gas and Oil drop so does the value of her stock. The Democrats are crooks and need to be held to the same standard of scrutiny you are holding the Republicans and John McCain. Lets at least be fair about the whole thing. The Democrats have enjoyed a media bias like none we have seen before. It is time for this to stop and you will see they are not as innocent as you would think.

>>She was Shell shocked? Shouldn’t the sniper fire have prepared her for this tramatic moment?< That was funny. Really though, that was a bad week for her and once the media catch you in a white lie they come down like an anvil and crush any statement you make. The plagiarism alone may not have been enough to bring my hometown Sen Biden down in ’88… but it set the media to critically analyzing him where they found other exagerations and plagiarism and outright arrogance that doomed his campaign.
I’m not a Hilary fan but I would prefer her to Obama. Obama scared me in the interview with the California Reverend. When asked if there is evil in the world, McCain straight out said yes and pointed out Al Queda. When asked the same question, the gist of what Obama said was there is great evil in the world because we don’t have enough welfare and government programs to solve our countries’ problems. Who needs a resurgent Russia? We got communism/socialism on the way with Obama.
Bah my vote doesn’t matter anyway as I am from Delaware. This state is the bluest of the blue… Mother Theresa/Ghandi/Martin Luther King running on the republican ticked would get massacred by David Duke/Hitler/Stalin etc.. so long as they were on the democrat ticket. Candidates and names don’t matter at all… only party affiliation (don’t flame me, I am sure this is true as well in the Reddest of the Reddest states in the south…)
Speaking of which, what exactly was the turning point when the mainstream media decided that they were going to swap the common convention of the 80s and early 90s and switch from blue state = republican and red state = democrat to the reverse? Europe still associates left wing parties with red and right wing with blue. It used to be the same way in the US until the late 90s and 2000 campaign.. I guess the mainstream media didn’t like to propagate that association (remember the cold war maps with a red russia and blue USA)

Wow, you’re all over the place.
This election is between Barack Obama and the John McCain of 2008. McCain hardly resembles the figure of 2004 and before who garnered the “post-partisan” label. So I choose to live in the present and base my evaluations on McCain’s currently stated positions.
As for the Chicago mob stuff, I don’t have to tell you that you’re overstating your case. Nobody on either side of believes that.
I suppose I’ll simply never understand the narcissistic thing. Is it because he did the thing with the seal? But the argument was around before that. Because he’s a better speaker than we’re used to these days? That would be silly. I think it’s just a Republican talking point that became an out of control locomotive; and people forgot where it started. I mean, it’s your opinion and I don’t know an objective way to attack it, I just don’t see what Obama has done so differently from other candidates to merit the judgment that he is self-absorbed.

Who is correct?

Posted by: Steve in Wilmington,NC | August 28, 2008, 1:23 pm 1:23 pm

To Gary and all the other irrationals out there:
1) McCain and the Keating 5 scandal.
2) McCain cheats on his 1st wife, who’s disabled, and then throws her to the curb for a rich heiress. That was how McCain worked his way to the top.
3) McCain has been wrong about every foreign policy issue since 9/11. He didn’t think Afghanistan was a problem even up until 2 months ago, until he was proven wrong by even his idol Gen. Petraeus. He wants to stay in Iraq for an undefined amount of time, even though are military is strapped and depleted.
Obama, on the other hand, has been so right about foreign policy that he now has the Bush administration copying him and negotiating for timetables in Iraq. Obama was the one to say last year that Afghanistan would be a problem and that covert strikes would be needed to take out Al-Qaeda terrorists in the Afghan region – which Bush derided at first, and then copied months later.
Who’s the real leader here? Who’s been right on every major foreign policy issue since 9/11?
McCain doesn’t know a thing about the economy. We know because he was dumb enough to say so himself in a Republican debate. He doesn’t remember how many houses he had. He doesn’t remember that he voted for health insurance to cover Viagra and *not* birth control.
If you all want this country to continue its descent into hell, go ahead and vote for McCain. But know that he’s not looking out for anyone but the millionaires and billionaires. So all those jobs you so desperately need? Give up now. Because McCain has no economic plan except to continue with Bush’s economic plan which – as we all know – has been a dismal failure.

One of the longest Primaries in Democratic History just occurred and all The Clintons did is tell us how his policies are bad for America, how he is not ready to be President in experience and that he lacks the Judgment to be President. Do you actually ever think for yourself? Anybody that associates with the likes of Rezko, Rev. Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayres lacks the Judgment to be President of the United States. You are going to blindly follow him because the Clintons support him? You are backing a candidate that has flip flopped on all of his Foreign Policy Stances From Israel, Cuba, North Korea, Iran. Do yourself a favor and research all of the issues Obama has changed his opinions on. It is almost as if he is a totally different candidate now than he was during the Democratic primary.

I honestly cannot see how anyone with a single ounce of common sense would consider “McBush”. Can we really afford another 4 years of the Bush Regime? Thats exactly what you” get with McBush at the helm!

Wasn’t BHO against the surge? Wasn’t the surge successful in reducing violence? What did BHO predict would happen if the surge took place?
JM actually LISTENS to Petraus and local commanders and takes their advice. BHO knows more about military strategy than any commander and will tell them what to do.
BHO has been in charge of congressional oversight of Nato which runs Afghanistan for the last 2 years. He didn’t do anything, not even a hearing or a meeting and now claims it’s all screwed up.
When it comes to Georgia BHO stated we should go to the UN Security Council to get the Russians to leave. He didn’t know Russia sits on that council. He didn’t know that Russia has the ability to veto any resolution. That’s basic UN 101.
It took 72 hours for BHO to come around to JM’s postion and copy it. That’s not leadership.

Thanks for the adjective David. You missed my point entirely. I am referring to the histeria of the media and masses in embracing a speaker that public speaking is his only asset. You can make fun of McCain all you want but just what has Obama done for this country??? NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH.

Joan — if Obama has done nothing for this country in his term in senate … that means he and McCain have one thing in common. Because McCain has done one thing to make Americans lives better in TWENTY-SIX YEARS of service.

Posted by: David | August 28, 2008, 2:23 pm 2:23 pm

I think Obama will make a great commander in Chief, he has his expereince from all his staff put together in a nut shell.

Posted by: GG | August 28, 2008, 2:25 pm 2:25 pm

Oops. NOTHING — is what I meant. Anyway — name one thing McCain had done that makes yours or my life better? Just one. Can’t? I can’t either. In 26 years of service McCain’s one claim to fame is the McCain-Feingold bill — which essentially both parties walk around right now as we speak. They do it by having big money contributors put together what are called “joint committees” that pool together oodles of cash to get around the $2,300 limit. That is McCain’s legacy. He hangs his hat on an invisible coat-track called McCain-Feingold. And if that’s the best thing he’s done in 26 years — than he’s hardly a good candidate for president.

McCain too old, too rich & too niave.
Obama is young, ambitious & actually cares about the American people.
He’s not full of promises..but actually going to get things done.
That’s the difference.

The Clintons, especially Hillary are the ones that have me leaning toward Obama. I really don’t like the man, but this country can not afford four more years of what Bush has given us the last 8.
Think about what Hillary said :
Were you in this for me or for the woman with cancer who had no health insurance or the marine or the lady working of minimum wage.
As was stated many times at the convention we are all in this TOGETHER.It’ not just about you, it’s about everyone in this country.
If you like the way things are going, vote for McCain, I personally don’t.

Whoa, whoa, whoa..
Is anyone in their right mind trying to link “falling gas prices” to Bush, or anyone for that matter?
Bush “removed the drilling ban” on offshore oil, yes, but it doesn’t actually allow for it to happen yet. There is also a ban on offshore drilling set by Congress years ago a well. They both have to be removed for it to happen, and I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Even so, it would take YEARS (we’re talking 5+) to actually drill that oil, refine it into gasoline, and have it hit the domestic marketplace to help prices AT ALL.
Gas prices have MOMENTARILY receded because the dollar has strengthened, and futures in things like oil commodities and precious metals like gold have gone down in the last 2 months. It is temporary and do not think we have escaped high gas prices- they will be back and with a vengeance.
Only investing a ton of money and resources into new, alternative energy will ever save us. “Drill Here, Drill now” is just a slogan- America has almost no oil reserves in the ground left untapped compared to the way global demand will keep rising with countries like China and India growing and buying cars. That’s why Obama is right about alternaitve energy and McCain is wrong about drilling.
Not to mention McCain has voted over 25 times against renewable energy legislation and is heavily financed by big oil.

Posted by: RPM | August 28, 2008, 3:01 pm 3:01 pm

Gas prices fell because it was beginning to look like the artificial jail the oil guys have been in for forty years was being unlocked. It meant the process of giving all out money to outsiders was close or in the process of coming to an end.
When the hippies, liberals, and enviormentals wake up with the rest of the world owning the USA, they can blame themselves…and the new owners will harvest the USA energy that THEY NOW OWN

If we do “wake up” one day to being owned it will be by China, who has bought a disgusting amount of our debt in bonds to finance the Iraq war to the tune of 10 billion a month for 5 years now.
Just when a Democratic President had balanced our budget into a surplus and started reducing our national debt again, Bush and the neocons used China as America’s credit card for the last 7 years. You can’t wage wars and give tax rebates without finding a way to pay for it. I guess cutting government spending and raising taxes didn’t poll well, so instead they mortgaged out country’s future to a dangerous, massive, communist country.
So much for the party of fiscal responsibility.

If Hillary was “shell-shocked” because she was stuck in an elevator for a few minutes… how could she ever be ready to have been President? Maybe that is what we should do…. stick Obama and McCain in elevators and whoever cries first is the loser… my money is on Obama. He is a bit of a wuss.

Posted by: Suzanne | August 28, 2008, 3:42 pm 3:42 pm

Since the beginning of his campaign, Obama sounds like a tearsheet from a Marxist playbook, from class warfare to nationalizing the oil companies, and punishing Americans who shows any sign of wealth and really tax them hard to teach them a lesson . . . yeah, this is his version of the “Amercian” way. So tonight will I be suprised if he walks out from his temple pillars wearing a brown shirt with a bright armband and marching with a kick-step in “jack-boots”. . . ? No, I would expect it! The question I have, if Obama becomes President will the White House be too white for him and Michelle, or will that “change” also? The bottom line is one of the real changes you will see after Obama taxes you for being successful, will be the change left in you pocket and he’ll probably go after that too! WAKE UP AMERICA! The news media hasn’t!

Posted by: usawhiteguy | August 28, 2008, 3:42 pm 3:42 pm

Even though BHO never had a chance to vote whether to send troups to Iraq initially – he says that he voted against sending troups..yada yada yada. Either BHO is smarter than our entire Senate, or he is just full of himself. For all our sake, I hope BHO is just full of himself!

Those “women for mccain” who wanted to see Hillary at the top would rather give away women’s rights, keep women’s pay lower and have a cheater and a homewrecker in the white house than to get over themselves.
I say go, cut off your nose to spite your face. Just don’t ever come crying about McCains lack of interest in what is important for women: he evidently has no respect for them.

When you are outside the US, you can never believe how much many Americans are still three centuries behind and do not understand that the world is evolving and things are changing. Open your eyes, people, time has changed. You want to be too conservative and you believe that you are always the best. You do not see the important things, and you are stuck on the details while leaving aside what really is good for your life. It is shameful when people say, “I am not going to vote for Obama because I do not like the man” Hoo, hoo, give me a break! Is it a love of a man that we are talking about here or how the country can go better and catch up with countries like China, Japan, etc, which are running away from the US now? What can your love for Obama do to the poor woman who does not have a health insurance? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. If you want to remain at the same place and not budge because of small things, or if you do not want to open your eyes and recognize that we are in the 21st century and not at the time of slavery, it is your own problem because I am not going to wait for you to you wake up from your lethargy or your semi sleep. May those who see the world as it is today VOTE OBAMA.

If Obama is elected in November he will go down in history as the first Anti-American ever elected as President. He’s the most liberal of liberal Senators and our founding fathers would vomit if they knew this country would actually vote for someone like him. Obama supports stand for nothing therefore they are falling for anything, a pep rally if you will, led by Oprah. Can you image someone like Obama calling the shots for the US Military? He’s going to change the red in our flag to pink!

joan…
first of all… NOBODY was doing ANYTHING for our vets at Walter Reed until Obama stepped in. It was all TALK.. and that includes Mc Cain.
but before then, before he even got to his desk on his first day in the senate… he was putting together the most important ethics bill to ever be written and passed in the senate.
and there is more…
but when you consider that was from a freshman senator… who is the jr senator from his home state…
that was already A LOT.
of course when you look at Mc Cain… just try to rattle off the things he has done FOR vets. its not going to be easy.

Why is it that people who keep praising Clinton for a balanced budge keep forgetting it was with a Republican Congress. Yes the budget sucks not and we have a Democrat congress. Everybody complains but doesn’t realize that the Democrats are in power and causing the problems.
Ignorance is bliss. Like J – “McCain too old, too rich & too niave. Obama is young, ambitious & actually cares about the American people. He’s not full of promises..but actually going to get things done. That’s the difference.”
Obama is rich also. Was this a problem when Kerry was running? And everyone says he is going to get things done but no one know what those are….
The Obama campaign pushed back hard against the televised comment on Monday night by James Carville, architect of Mr. Clinton’s 1992 campaign and its mantra, “It’s the economy, stupid”. Mr. Carville said on CNN, “If this party has a message, it’s done a hell of a job of hiding it tonight, I promise you that.”

Hey Hans Meiser—you want to call John McCain an adulterous person…whaaat? Do you remember the “Blue Dress” and the cigars? What a shortsided loser you are.
Dan—you say that President Bush is the worst president in history—so you think President Bush is worse than Jimmy Carter? Open your eyes and see the light! Please!

oh brother – per robert’s comments. Don’t you realize that alternative energy is not going to solve the oil problem. Oil is used in to many items. We need to drill. If you want to make an impact lets ban all makeup (i.e. mascara is made from product of oil) utilized by women as a start and see how long it will be before they demand that we drill.
Educate yourself democrats!!!

The worst president in history was in the 19th century — James Buchanan, who comes closer than any one person for being responsible for the Civil War. Ironically, he was also the most experienced.

Some of you anti-Obama bloggers sound like a bunch of outdated old coots shooing the kids off the lawn. Not only can most of you not spell worth beans, but you’re also clearly afraid, which is why you respond to well to the fear that McCain and his party is trying to sell us. You’re afraid to take responsibility for the trainwreck of a mess that YOUR administration is leaving us with. You’re afraid of change. Well, guess what? You’re not selling my generation anything. We’re ready for change and we’re going to make it happen because it’s our time. So get on the bus or get left behind. I swear – some people have to be dragged into the 21st century.

And I find it odd that a huge number of Republican leaders are not going to be attending their own convention next week. Why is that? Can you figure that out? Hmm. You wonder about Feinstein — who broke her foot — but I think the red party has finally stolen its last election here. Yes, I do indeed.

I don’t think I have read/heard a single story about Hillary Clinton having a bad time at the convention. But who am I to say? Rightwing bloggers are sooo reliable when it comes down to “reporting”. (cough cough). They are ripe with jealousy. May I sign off with a childish little “neener neener”? That felt goooood ;-)

Posted by: Ginger | August 28, 2008, 8:02 pm 8:02 pm

Not only was Clinton stuck in the elevator, I read that Jesse Jackson Jr. was stuck the other day as well. It seems as though Denver, is having problems with this convention. They had a reporter arrested for taking pictures, running out of food and giving the delegates Hot Dogs, now the elevator problem. The “Mile High” city does not seem to have solutions to many of these problems.

It seems instead of non important stories as this that you could investigate Obama past associations and personal data. Why won’t the media do this. You would be consider a hero to bring out all of this before the election. As a 40 year Democrat who after our primary changed to Independent I cannot vote for Obama – because he is not experienced for the job of putting America back on track after 8 years of Bush.
