John Kerry on McCain: “Dangerous for the Direction of this Country”

At a small fundraiser for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, this evening in Boston, Mass., Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., had some harsh words for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

"The bottom line is, this administration has moved towards Barack Obama’s positions, John McCain is still stuck on the low road express," Kerry said, referring to recent US foreign policy shifts regarding Afghanistan, Iran, and North Korea. "He doesn’t get it," Kerry said of McCain. "He’s even dangerous, I think, for the direction of this country. That’s why we need to stay focused on electing Barack…"

Kerry made some jokes as well.

"I asked Barack what he wanted for his birthday and he said, just three things: ‘Indiana, Colorado, and Virginia.’"

Big laughs.

Kerry also said, "John McCain is looking for someone for vice president who has more economic expertise than he does. So congratulations to all of you, you’re on the short list."

Obama was given a gift of a Red Sox Hawaiian shirt after being serenaded by the crowd, led by Harry Connick, Jr.

I hope Paul’s run takes a lot of republicans with him. Couldn’t be better for Obama.

John Kerry is a dangerous man…because he’s to naive…that’s why he’s not president. Ditto Obama.

John McCain did say that maybe we should establish a timeline to withdraw from Iraq AFTER OBAMA came from his overseas trip. He was probably embarrassed along with Bush about their “stay the course mentality”. The Repulicans were displeased all that week. But truly I did not know McCain was so childish and silly with his age and all. He is very nasty I guess the reason some call him McNasty. He is not that smart to agree to such low negative tactics and then say he will run a respectable campaign-Next he will say Obama walked on Mars-McCain is really outrageous in a scary kind of way. No mention on doing anything for regualar Americans.

Coming from an heir to a ton of fortune from an OIL family, I am amazed at the comments posted on these blogs.
Amen for Kerry for speaking truth.
It seems my fellow Americans are so clouded in crap, they don’t even know what truth is anymore. In a democracy, it is so very sad. But in a democracy, you have the power of market, money and influence.
So until the general public learns to understand the difference between them, we will always have an ignorant elect.
I come from an oil family. If you all vote based on More drilling, my Dad and my brothers are going to make a TON more money, and you won’t save one red cent.
Obama is being swiftboated. This republican family in the oil industry is buying stock in comapnies that produce and maintain and products affiliated with wind turbines. We suggest you all do the same. Perhaps you could be the next rich family to influence an election….. imagine that.
This oil family in Oklahoma has warned you, we are republicans who have worked in oil our entire lives. We have to get OFF of OIL, more drilling WILL NOT HELP YOU. Oil and McCain are LYING. We have the technology big oil has suppressed for years, let it go folks.
While you may not smoke, do drugs or drink, if you disagree with what I have said- then join a group as an oil addict. You see, there is ANOTHER way to live and power this world, all you addicts just have to accept it.
This Republican family is voting Obama. Maybe not my dad, but he outnumbered by 8. (he wants to vote Obama but worries of the burden of supporting his family on an oil mans salary)
Invest in those little wind turbine comapnies folks, your missing the train if you don’t- that is the future, and the future wealth. ( You wanna be a future Rockefeller? then LISTEN TO ME)
Our oil family has already invested, we suggest you do the same.
John Kerry is right. Don’t let this ignorant cloud of BS cloud your vision. That’s how we got into this situation in the first place.

This coming from a man who couldn’t even beat George Bush? The playboy Senator from Massachusetts does not have a very broad view economy. As long as his wife continues to reap the benefits of her late Republican husbands Heinz company, he doesn’t have to worry about how much a tank of gas costs.

Oh Kerry shut it, you will not get a cabinet position. When some one asked what makes obama so great you are on tape saying cause hes a black man. Yeah we know why you support him. I am so disgusted with the Dems this year. The only thing that makes me laugh now about this election is McCain’s funny ads. Now I hope Obama sees that Hillary was only giving him a few love taps, the repbulicans wont spare him. McCain is more of a comedian that a president, and Obama nose is so far in the air he can smell the water on mars.

I read an article where the writer used an old Indian saying and compared it to Barack Obama and it struck me to be really accurate – “High wind, big thunder, no rain.” Mr. Obama is young, with an inexperienced record but he really can talk convincingly using teleprompters. Will the words he uses over and over “hope” and “change” net a lot of voters? Probably.
During the debates between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama it because exhaustively clear to all that Ms. Clintons depth of knowledge was superior to that of Obama. Even I who was not a Clinton supporter was really blown away at this woman’s knowledge and ability to talk directly to people with clarity and understanding. But Mr. Obama’s rhetoric of “we are the chosen ones” over and over, likened to a gospel misters bent on fire and brimstone won over the super delegate’s votes but not America’s votes.
Now Mr. Obama is trying to play the same game again. He will not debate with John McCain in the Town Hall Meetings because he would have to speak without a prearranged speech or teleprompters. Here John McCain would show not only a depth of knowledge on important crucial issues facing our country but John McCain’s character as someone you can trust would shine. Obama needs images, backdrops with his “sermons on the mount”. “High wind, big thunder, no rain”.
Perhaps it is way too late for the Democratic Party “to wake up”. Obama cannot get the job done. They tossed aside the best candidate “Hillary Clinton” that could have closed the deal and by now she would have been 20 points ahead. Americans want a serious, experienced, knowledgeable person as President—and truthfully, it is almost a disgrace that the Democrats would support someone so unprepared to run this nation.

Now the truth. There are oil leases in Oklahoma and Texas that cannot be started. The problem has been all the red tape and lawsuits Oil companies have to go through to even get permission to drill. If I want to start drilling on a lease my company owns it take nearly 2 years to get all the paperwork done. Gas is a different story. There is enough oil in the US and on the Continental Shelf to take care of our needs for the near future. While we are developing alternatives we should not suffer. It will take longer than 10 years to develope these alternatives. Wind, Nuclear ans solar take time and engineering. T Boone is right on his plan. But in the meantime we will not be able to develope a plane that runs on batteries. So please people get real.

Obama has already BOUGHT the nomination!
The Democratic Party has sold out its party and SELECTED its candidate in an
an audacious, undemocratic plot… one described best by the slogan:
“UNITED TO BE UNTIED AND DIVIDED” ,
Pelosi and Dean and the other fractured leaders of this broken down party… have only themselves to blame for its death knoll come November…..
I remember carefully carrying my birth certificate into the village hall to sign up for my first election when I turned 18, I was proud…. a born and bred Democrat..and so excited about voting my first time out!
I’m not proud this year,
I feel my right to VOTE has been dis-enfranchised by the DNC which not only force fed a questionable albeit smart empty suit into top place….
by denying the full seating of delegates for Michigan and Florida…
by handing Obama delegates which rightly should have gone to Clinton…
by permitting the SALE of delegates to the highest bidder….
by permitting and, in fact, encouraging the use of racism against the Clintons… and now McCain.
This is a sad state of affairs….
If only they had supported a Colin Powell…….

It’s interesting, we should not advocate
‘modesty’?
McCain was modest, he may just said ‘I don’t know economy that well.’. Does it mean he really doesn’t understand economy?
Obama is always arrogant, he claims he wants to fix washington, he claims he is the best. Does he really know that much? Is he really the best?
Who knows economy better than Alan Greenspan? If Obama doesn’t, why he doesn’t say he doesn’t know economy well?
Do you want a arrogant jerk or someone who is modest?

McCain has destroyed all of his political integrity, even his iconic story of captivity has been altered,
Everything he stood for is gone. how disappointing can this guy get, he has sold his soul to the Bushies. He has become a bad parody of himself, just one long tired diatribe of anger and ridicule. They are laughing at the expense of middle class. I for one don’t find his type of humor worthwhile.

Posted by: stormy | August 5, 2008, 3:28 am 3:28 am

The reason for McCain’s negative conduct is simple. This is his very last chance at being President and he very much realizes that. So, he is pulling out all of the stops and going for broke. He is truly desperate in this effort.

It was bad enough for America to vote for Bush, disaster to do it twice. The world now sees American as the least smart nation around for that when it comes to politics and economy. Can you make it any worse by voting for John McCain who lies (e.g. he tried to tie the 2001 anthrax attack to Iraq to supplement the justification for war), cannot tell different states of the economy, has no plans to sort out American economy, wants to go to war with the rest of the world and very confused about what is reality.
For your sakes America, do not vote for McCain. Show the world how smart you guys are.

I’m so glad that John Kerry is willing to degrade and attempt to destroy his long-time friend and ally. After John McCain helped Kerry by using his expertise to pass legislation with Kerry’s name on it and giving Kerry more credit than deserved on POW/MIA committee legislation. John Kerry begged McCain to be his VP in 2004. Now, I guess his loyalty and due is far less important than political expediency. Which is why he no longer speaks to Edwards (how dare Edwards run for President again!!). Which is why he’s stooping for Obama hoping for a VP slot (which he’ll never get). Which is why he’s trying to get his name out there, since he’s due for re-election in MA. Now that Richardson isn’t being vetted for VP, he’s crawling back to Hillary like a sad puppy…I’m sure Kerry will do the same to McCain when Obama loses.

Problem is, Americans are so disgusted with the Democrats that any criticism from them lacks punch. Who is in Congress this week attempting to address America’s energy problems with gas at $4 a gallon? Is it the Democrats who claim to be so concerned with the struggles of the average American? Nope, they’re off on their 5-week vacation. It’s Republicans who are standing their ground and calling for Pelosi and the Dems to have the guts to come back, debate, and vote. Wonder what Congress’ latest approval rating is? Hint: for sure it’s lower than Bush’s.

I am doing everything I can in my power to see that Obama is defeated in November and that everyone who stabbed Hillary in the back has a short-lived political career. Kerry is a big flip flopper and so is Obama, no wonder they are such good friends! What a joke! Kerry, Kennedy and Dodd supporting Obama, Winkin blinkin and nod! lolol

Posted by: Mary Anne | August 5, 2008, 5:29 pm 5:29 pm

The level of viciousness from the Republicans here, and from those claiming to be Hillary supporters, is astonishing, McCain and Obama have substantively different positions on major issues from Iraq (though McCain is moving toward Obama’s timetable) to energy to the economy to Supreme Court appointees. Look at the positions–not the funny ads, not the doubletalk talking points. And then choose smart, compassionate, gracious, idealistic but undogmatic Obama over peevish, out-of-touch, more right-wing than he pretends McCain.
If you agree with McCain on genuine policy questions–and what he has done rather than campaign photo ops–go ahead and vote for him. But examine his long record and the substance of his positions and Obama looks better and better.
