McCain Campaign Mocks Obama as Messianic in Web Video
In case you were wondering if Sen. John McCain was going to end the week on a note of substance and the kind of high-minded politics the presumptive GOP nominee said he would like to see in this campaign, a new web video indicates that wasn’t in the cards.
A new web video called "The One" mocks Obama as messianic, using some of Obama’s words against him — some fairly and others unfairly. The ad even juxtaposes Obama with a scene from The Ten Commandments, with Charlton Heston, as Moses, parting the Red Sea.
Let us dissect this, shall we?
Intones the narrator: "It should be known that in 2008 the world will be blessed. They will call him ‘The One.’"
"A nation healed, a world repaired," Obama says in his November 2007 speech at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.
"We are the ones we’ve been waiting for," Obama says, in his Super Duper Tuesday speech in California.
The narrator continues: "And he has anointed himself, ready to carry the burden of The One. To quote Barack, ‘I have become a symbol of America returning to our best traditions.’"
As we covered earlier in the week, that quote was actually Obama telling House Democrats that the big crowds and enthusiastic receptions he received in Europe had less to do with him than they had to do with a desire for a new U.S. foreign policy. In a way, it was more a statement of humility than arrogance.
"He can do no wrong," the narrator says.
Cut to an excerpt of CBS’s Lara Logan asking Obama, "Do you have any doubts?"
"Never," Obama says, smiling.
"Can you see the light?" asks the narrator.
Obama is then shown in New Hampshire in January saying, "a light beam will shine through — will light you up — and you will experience an epiphany — I have to vote for Barack!"
Obama, it should be noted, was joking.
And the ad omits how Obama started that sentence, "I am going to try to be so persuasive, so that those of you who are still wavering…will suddenly come to the conclusion…"
Says the narrator, "And the world will receive his blessings."
Obama is then shown saying, "This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal," a much-mocked line from his speech in Minneapolis, Minn., the night he secured enough delegates to win the Democratic nomination.
Asks the narrator: "Barack Obama may be ‘The One,’ but is he ready to lead?"
The John McCain of 2000 would not have run this campaign.
Then again, the John McCain of 2000 lost.

UPDATE: ABC News’ Bret Hovell reports that McCain senior aide Nicole Wallace says of this web ad, “It was a communication to our supporters, and was a kind of a bookend to a week that we thought was very successful. Our intention to use a little bit of humor. I think campaigns can be mind-numbingly boring and brutal without a little bit of humor, so we’re proud to use a little bit of humor at the end of the week, especially on a Friday. And the more serious point for our supporters is that despite the size of his crowds, his celebrity and fans are nothing to be intimidated by as the underdog campaign. As the underdog campaign, sometimes the crowds aren’t 200,000 strong and roaring, but it’s just a different approach and style and imagery. We’re holding our own, and we’re very pleased with the way things are going and where we are.”

The MSM is making my blood boil for not calling out this kind of ridiculous nonsense.
This country is really in trouble if this is what we are going to be getting from McCain’s campaign aided by main stream media.
I am sick and tired of this nonsense…

Senator Obama’s own words are now coming back to haunt him. Does the prove he is just arrogant or a man with the intelligence, credibility and experience to lead?

Is the McCain campaign making a mockery of religion?
How childish can they be.
I really think that they have really crossed a line today.

My wife left the Public Radio station on in our car when I was taking my daughter to practice.
The reporter asked a sympathetic McCain biographer “what is true of the negative attacks on John McCain?”
He basically replied “you should dismiss anything Harry Reid says but John McCain does have a temper. If he wants something but there is a barrier to him getting it, he will goe ballistic and get very angry.”
Sounds like what we see being played out here.

Ok, that just ends it. I will not even consider McCain from this point on. What a low life, I do not want McCain in the US office. He has nothing. He just proved it.
By the way, I think that new ad actually might help Obama, it just goes to show you people are listening and for the most part we are not stupid, I do not need a bunch of crazy ads to make me think I am.

And here I though all of the comparisons of a candidate to the 120 year old moses would be reserved for McCain…Oh well, I guess his campaign assumed comparing Obama to Jesus or Mohamed might be a bit too forward…

Posted by: BlueJersey | August 1, 2008, 3:09 pm 3:09 pm
This is beyond despicable, but completely in line with how Republicans run their elections. Throw as much ugly crap out there as possible to make any sane person not want to be involved with American politics, so they and their cronies can make themselves rich on the taxes we either pay or go to jail for not.
And it’s a complete misrepresentation to say that “both candidates” are doing this. There is only “One” in the mud right now, and that is the “political celebrity” coward named John McCain.
Posted by: MattC | August 1, 2008, 3:09 pm 3:09 pm
John can’t win over Republicans, let alone Democrats. Why vote for a Democrat impostor, over an actual Democrat? Nothing he can do or say will cahnge that harsh reality. The party could have been competitive with anyone other than McCain, yet HE is the nominee, even though he doesn’t even have the required number of delegates for the nomination, and had to cancel a primary because he wasn’t going to win Nevada. If this is how he treats members of his own (at least his claim) party, then how in the hell can ANY Democrat vote for him over Obama? It never was meant for John and it never will be.

Eight years ago McCain was a nice guy, someone I wanted to win the White House, now he has become a pig in politics. He is the reason we need someone like Obama, someone new. McCain has become more personal against Obama than any other Presidential candidate in American history. I now despise He does not deserve to be treated with the respect one should give a Presidential candidate or a war hero. His actions since he left the service leave a lot to be desired, starting with the Keating Five. I am also starting to despise those who support him. For the record, I have not voted for a Democratic President since I started voting, starting with Richard Nixon, but I will this time, and I am going to give him lots of money. It is time for change and McCain is demonstrating he is not the one to do it.

Just try to remember one thing no matter what you may think…
This great country of ours was “discovered” by someone somewhere. “discovered” Tell me, how do you “discover” something that already has an owner? That’s like me “discovering” your car while you’re in it. So if that’s called carjacking.. I guess what we did was country-jacking.
I say that to point out that the past runs our future. It’s hard for us to let go of the things that we’re so use to that we’ll hold on to the old ways for a very long time.
Hell…. we still think it’s okay to tell someone else what to do with their bodies. :)
So it’s really refreshing to see ignorance alive and well in America. I think its really cool that someone might be able to become president through hate and fear.
Carry on my people….. carry on…. :)
Peace & Blessings

Prayers placed in the Wailing Wall are between God and that person—well not really. I think that Obama “mocked” and showed disrespect to Israel. In a statement issued following the public outcry over the stollen message from the wall, Maariv said that “Barack Obama’s note was approved for publication in the international media even before he put it in the Kotel, a short time after he wrote it at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.” A third newspaper, Haaretz, quoted Maariv as saying that “Obama submitted a copy of the note to media outlets when he left his hotel in Jerusalem.”
How low will OBAMA go to get elected?

The best humor contains a kernel of truth. Always has. This ad mocking Barack as “The ONE” has more than a kernel, it contains a bushel. Like it or not, consider it childish or not, it is the truth. Told with humor. Barack has no one but himself and his overinflated ego to blame. “Pride cometh before the fall” could not fit anyone better than Barack. The Gallup daily track poll just came out today – Obama = 44% McCain = 44%. McCain 2008!

Is this what makes America the land of the free and the home of the brave? Is this what makes America the longest democracy on earth? The world is watching.

It can be a funny ad, but on the other hand, it seems bitterly sarcastic, desperate, and offensive. I don’t think it was the wisest ad to run for the McCain campaign. Where have we gone since those harmless black and white “I like Ike” ads and the catchy slogans and original campaign songs?

Wow, is this what the campaign is going to come down to? The Race Card, Celebrity status commericials, pointless bickering back and forth?
Heck, just cancel the debate, have a cage match between the two and put it on PPV, the proceeds can go back to the people as an economic stimulus.

Some of you people who are “entertained” by this ad and other frivolous ads like it, must be in the 13% of Americans who think this country is headed in the right direction, right? Otherwise you surely wouldn’t encourage someone to waste our time like this, when what most Americans want to know is, “HOW DO YOU PLAN TO END THE WAR, FIX THE ECONOMY, MAKE HEALTH CARE AFFORDABLE TO ALL, CREATE JOBS, LOWER MY GAS BILL, EDUCATE MY CHILDREN, FIX SOCIAL SECURITY, END THE PARISAN GRIDLOCK IN WASHINGTON, RID WASHINGTON OF LOBBYISTS AND CORRUPTION?
We want ANSWERS, not games! The next president has an opportunity for greatness, if he can solve even one or two of the above problems.

This ad is so counterproductive it supports the thesis that the Roveian crew recently brought over the Bush Whited House are demoting McCain into a stalking horse for a replacement candidate to be named, such as Jeb Bush.
The Hilton/Spears ad at least had a racist subtext, but unless this Moses ad is aimed at anti-semitism, it serves only to deliver even more positive graphic images of Obama, and make McCain sound like a jealous junior high school student.
Posted by: Laughing at McCain | August 1, 2008, 3:29 pm 3:29 pm
I don’t get what camp McCain think there upto about now. That ad is odd, as it is so obviously just a montage of clips, not a particular statement and a few of them are so obviously taken out of context. It ends up feeling a bit like its making fun of the point the ad is trying to make.
But even still, I think before making the case of why not to vote for Obama, McCain has to make the case more convingly of why vote Republican. And he hasnt done that at all yet.

Fanantical Evangelicals will also see that McCain’s camp is now alluding to a smear campaign that is painting Barack Obama as the Anti-Christ! This is shameful. I’m embarassed for John Mc Cain because his legacy is being torn to shreds by his advisors, and I believe he’s either naive or senile enough not to know they’re sabotaging him. If those campaign advisors can lead him into this type of thought process NOW, think of the disaster that would come of his presidency…possibly even worse than George W. Bush.

First, NO ATTACKS ON MCCAIN’S MILITARY HISTORY, THAT WAY LIES RUIN….
McCain is taking this approach because it works (thus far). Obama needs to stop reacting and start being proactive. Obama should enlist some of his Hollywood buddies and start hitting back with funny negative attacks on McCain. McCain has a very short fuse and great temper. He could take one or two or three but after that he will lose his composure and erupt. When he does, he will be uncontrolable and could lose the election then.
Obama – Stop being a good guy. It invites more attacks. Retaliate big time.

I think these journalist cannot handle anyone poking fun of their Chosen One! I don’t see McCain as bitter, but I do think the media needs to look in the mirror long and hard, because they only seem to have negative things to say about McCain and they make up excuses all the time for Obama.

okay, this is a good or perfect example of what I have been telling my children for years, “DO NOT pay attention to political ads on TV! They are full of half-truths and are spun in an untrue manner.”
The last statement in the article,”Barack Obama may be “The One”, but is he ready to lead?”, is the dumbest statement I have heard. Isn’t it an oxymoron? Who are these people that put these statements and ads together?
They must be the same people that put McCain in a grocery store and a German restuarant, while Obama was overseas.

You would think that candidate who comes along that tries to inspire hope in the election process and get new people involved in politics would be a good thing.
I guess not when the mainstream media is concerned.
I don’t know if the tv media, (ABCNews, CNN, etc.) realize how they are framing the debate but it is glaringly obvious.
Not that I support either candidate, but the television coverage has been dominated by McCain’s false and rediculous attack ads. Not by anything positive regarding Obama. This has got to be exactly what McCain’s campaign manager wants and is complete Rovian.

-U.S. home prices fell by their worst rate of decline ever in May.
These are the things people are concerned with. Did McCain’s campaign not learn anything from Hillary? Mocking Obama does not work. Having a clear message is what works. That’s why she started doing better later in her campaign.

So far, the commenters who think the ad is fine, agree with the stated message of the ad, and support McCain, have all missed the point regarding the context of the statements used and are selectively picking their truths.
Following the logic displayed here in this thread by the aforementioned supporters of this ad, the Obama campaign could now run ads exclaiming that McCain firmly believes in his deepest soul that Barack Obama is the second coming of Christ and that MCcain, as a Christian, is asking to call off the election. But they won’t, because that would be stupid.
I’ve never seen a more desperate presidential campaign than that of John McCain. He’s being led by the nose to failure and he doesn’t even see it. As an example of how completely lost he is, witness this piece from the opinion pages of the Wall Street Journal:
“Is John McCain Stupid?”

He has compromised his integrity for power. How sad for him and us! Is this how he would lead this country? I guess I am not your typical Obama supporter. Simple question to all the fools saying this is funny: were the other side to release a video showing McCain drooling on himself, stumbling over his lines, forgetting that Iraq doesn’t share a border with Afghanistan, would it be funny then? No, sanctimonious morons from coast-to-coast would be up in arms.

It is worth noting the irony of the chorus of Obama supporters in pretty much every online forum, universally decrying the “dirty politics” of a funny McCain ad, while no less than 90% of their comments make sure to squeeze in the requisite talking points about McCain’s age and the baseless personal attacks claiming that he is “losing it”, senile, etc.

The McCain who worked with Fiengold and fought for troops was a true contender to me, an independent. Now, he has changed since the nomination to accept the PAC’s he was against, voted against funding for the care of returning troops, and insulted the religious contingency with pointless blather. Has Obama been psycho analyzed yet? I am concerned as the election nears that he must be vetted and also psycho analyzed. Without experience and a record of accomplishment, the American people know nothing about him. Americans must have trust in who they vote for, but this is utterly lacking with him. It might help if he were vetted fully and psycho analyzed to reassure Americans and engender their trust.

When did you get to know what McCain cares about or not.Just guessing and making wild statements you have no knowledge of.
McCain cares nothing about the individual. He cares only about corporate welfare. He is there to protect his wife’s enormous company interests and I’m kind of wondering how he will lean now that her company is dependent on the now foreign ownership of her single client.

Welcome to the General Election Obamabots. You attacked Clinton for a 3 a.m. ad, but she did not really go after Obama because it was a primary. McCain is simply defining Obama for American voters before he can create an image at the convention.
Posted by: geevill | August 1, 2008, 4:04 pm 4:04 pm
Lets look at Obama’s strong points. He is a very good speaker. AND THEN NOTHING!!!!!
He doesn’t have enough experience to run any company or any executive level of government. He has not been there and has not done that.
If any on you had a hundred million dollar company that you owned outright not a single one of you would hire Obama to run that company. He simply isn’t qualified to run any large organization, he DOESN’T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE.
As this add so clearly points out Obama is very clearly full of himself and most of us do not feel that qualifies him for anything.
This is the point of the add but the liberals think that being pretty somehow qualifies politicians for special consideration.
Obama is not qualified to be your local county sheriff!!!

If I contributed to this campaign, I would certainly want my money back. Would I really want to give money to someone who makes a mockery of me? The sad thing is that some find this to be very good. Hello! We’re talking about a presidential candidate here. In a debate or a townhall perhaps he could easily make such jokes, but to actually spend money to make such ads? Don’t you feel stupid that he thinks you will vote against the guy after watching this? Wow, just wow!

McCain is a military hero and I can’t even imagine what he had to endure during his time as a POW, he has my respect as far as this. But is he qualified to run the country? I have yet to see, read and hear anything at all this past week that would get me to vote for him. From all the headlines I’ve read, it’s all about one kid tattling and making fun of the other. My children are more mature than this. From all the negative media his side has put out this week, he needs to fire whoever has put this crap out among others and focus on the issues and what he can bring to the American people NOW! Issues people…
So, sitting in the middle of this political tug of war. We shall see. My one vote adds up.

And as for the lame update from the inept McCain PR group – we’ve lived with a frat boy for seven years. They don’t make such good presidents. I want a real one. With a brain and some restraint. If John McCain can’t play an adult for a year-long campaign, why would anyone expect him to do it for 4 years? He won’t.He is obviously so rich – he doesn’t get that right now, average Americans are watching businesses fail, losing homes, losing farms, and watching their kids college fund (if they are lucky enough to have them) cut in half on Wall Street. Maybe John and Cindy and Jake are rich enough to be above all this, but it’s not funny to me – it’s heartbreaking. And that doesn’t even begin to describe how it must feel to lose your child in a senseless war – that cn only result in an Islamic government in Iraq. There are simply no words for that. But humor is not a way a leader would respond. Humor is the way a spoiled rich man – who is completely out of touch with average Americans – would respond.

You are right. This has been the most embarrassing week as a country in a long time.
and McCain brought our image down that much further.
yeah that’s who we should be picking for President …the guy who says the other guys doesn’t have ideas just lofty rhetoric and then takes Bidens crime bill and tries to pass it off as his new idea…
and has to try and win an election by putting ads together that are so far beneath the presidency with images of soft core amateur porn actresses (thank you Paris Hilton and ones that riff on the images from some Americans religios faith and Moses)
you are right there are issues and a candidate trying to take our eye off those issues is not the candidate who should be in the White House..

Actually, I think the McCain campaign has been pretty gentle so far. What are his supporters going to say when they play Obama in his own words making bigoted statements about a typical white person or how white people are bred. Those interviews are sitting out there on the internet and the public at large has yet to hear much of it. When McCain does use it, expect Obama to drop another 10 points in the polls.

nnate, OH ,
I find your words to be insightful and intelligently written. I have been a republican so to speak for my 25 years however I am beginning to doubt my allegiance.
Mccain’s ad is wrong because it is using Obama’s words out of context therefor older people or those less fortunate who may not have access to the internet to tell them this was used out of context and how then how would they know therefore in my opinion it makes the ad a LIE.
Posted by: MISSISSIPPI GIRL | August 1, 2008, 4:19 pm 4:19 pm
McCain’s ads are childish, and he seems to be trying to bully Obama instead of run a campaign for President. Is this how he will handle foreign affairs? If a country doesn’t do what he wants, he’s going to call them names and play these little games?
To run a country, you should be able to act like an adult, be a great negotiator, work well with others, intelligent, able to get along with others.
Obama’s popularity is very similar to JFK’s, don’t you think?
Personally, I’m offended by McCain’s commercials and embarrassed that other world leaders see how immature our candidates are. We can do better.

I don’t care what the candidates think about each other, I care only what they are going to do to help the country and its people. This is getting out of hand and personal just plain stupid. Of course some people love this stuff, but in the end it means nothing. I personal wish to hear about the issues and proposed solutions, not if someone can supposedly part the red sea! What’s his education plan? Who are his advisors? What’s his foreign policy plan (aside from a 100-year war with mysterious financing and killling Iranians with cigarettes)? Forget about reform – he talked about reform for ten years and then surrounded himself with over 100 lobbyists. What’s his plan to reduce teen pregancy? What’s his health care plan and who are his advisors (aside from the insurance industry). Have to look it up? I bet you do. Good luck. There is no there there.

If you think the war should continue indefinitely, while we spend $10,000,000,000 a month, and you think that bush has done well with the economy then mc-more-war is your man. Suddenly, the Obamabots are worried about words being taken out of context. I wish they had been that concerned when they took McCain’s statement about being in Iraq 100 years and twisted it out of context.

This is one of the best ads I’ve seen yet…keep em coming!!! One only has to pay close attention to Obama and do their research to see, at best, he is nothing more than a fool and a buffoon…albeit a deceptively savvy and dangerous one. Fit to be president? Nope, just another far-left socialistic politician living in the fantasyland of his own mind, doing his best to deceive the American people into voting for “The One” whose policies, ineptitude, inexperience, and foolishness will do more damage to our great country than has been done in its existence. He’s the sole reason I will not be voting for any one in the Democratic party this election cycle. McCain…you’ve got my support AND vote!

I’m still trying to figure out why mccain confused the Packers with the Steelers 3 weeks ago while speaking to a Pittsburgh crowd. He said he used the names of the famous Steelers Defensive line of the 1970′s while being interrogated, too bad these guys weren’t even playing when mccain was being interrogated. He is either going senile or he was trying to pull one over on the Pittsburgh crowd, either way this is BAD news for mc-more-war. You can check out the article by going into google and typing “mccain steelers” and picking the first link.

For all you people who think drilling is going to say, us spare the ones who post who have done the research. Drilling offshore or in Alaska is good for 2 years of oil tops! And it is 10 years minimum AWAY!
For those who know nothing about Obama but spew the same BS everyday, get a life and find out the facts…they are easy to find!!!!
And for all of you who think he will raise taxes on EVERYONE mistaken! He will actually lower the middle class taxes, and raise them on the rich. Seems like most here who post are in that $100,000 income backet….

For those that keep asking about McCains views on the real issues you only need listen. While Obama repeats the same stale speeches (he gave the same EXACT dollar bill speech three times Weds) McCain actually engages the audiance and answers questions that are asked of him, I was at one of these events and he answerd questions for over 2 hours non-stop. Yesterday he was talking to an audiance and even took an Obama supporter head on. To see the contrast of this watch Obama talk AT the people during his speeches. In case some dont notice the entusiasm he was getting is starting to die off, I think they are getting tired of hearing the same thing everytime Axlerod pulls the string hanging from his back. Did you see the look on the faces of his supporters when he said to fill your tires and tune-up your car? I think he lost a few points then and there!

“Hesiod: Since we’re talking about idiotic statements, lets talk about what Obama said was part of his solution to the energy crisis. He said we should make sure our tires are inflated properly. He really is quite the intellectual.”
No, what Obama was doing was mocking the whole Offshore Drilling trope by pointing out that proper tire presurem regular tune ups and changing your oil filter would yield more gasoline savings than drilling offshore.
I know it is hard for dimwitted mcCain voters to understand REAL mockery and wit (when you are so used to a “subtle” form of it comparing bama to Moses)– but those of us with brains recognize a real rapier wit vs Dumb and Dumber (i.e. the McCain campaign ads].

This man has either no morals and values or is just simply an old senile demented fool who thinks this is what America wants to hear. McCain and his bunch brings shame to every American in the eyes of the world. Not even prior Republican candidate has ever stoop to such filth and garbage. Shame on McCain, shame on his surrogates, and shame on those that would support this kind of obscene garbage. I am shocked to think that a US Senator would act in such a dispicable manner. Instead of setting the tone for decency, values, and standard for our younger generation, he resorts to what amounts to tactics on the scale of pornography. People who are going to vote for Obama won’t change their minds with these ads, and people who vote for McCain will do so regardless of how much better qualified Obama is. The independents hopefully will vote for the third-party candidates. After the conventions and the debates, Obama will show what a far superior candidate he is, McCain will look pathetic and voters will turn out to the polls in droves for Obama. Polls don’t matter now. The fact that Obama is even tied with McCain at this point should give McCain supporters cause for worry since McCain has been around for so many years – 27 at least, even though he looks 100.

A lot of things have been said about Barack Obama in the past, and I’m not sure I agree with all of them, but one thing is beyond question: the man is a socialist. There is no argument there. Everything in his life up to this point has involved the advancement of socialism. The problem is, the US cannot afford to have a socialist president at this time. Our country is 9 trillion dollars in debt and the last thing we can afford to do is elect a president that is promising trillions in new spending. We have to go in the opposite direction. We have to cut back on spending so we can start paying down the enormous debt. It is also unfair to saddle future generations with debt to pay for social welfare programs for people today. If we continue down the path to full socialism at this time by implementing Obama’s socialist healthcare system, we will destroy any chance the nation has to balance the budget and pay down the debt. If we enact the oppressive tax increases that Obama is proposing, we will bring the economy to a screeching halt and people’s retirement funds will plummet in value. We just can’t afford any more socialism in America at this time.

First – I’m a registered Republican.
Second – In response to the infantile comments regarding Obama’s statement on inflating tires — below is an excerpt from an earlier ABC News article:
“It was just a few weeks ago when two Republican governors (one of them a potential VP pick for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz) were talking about Americans keeping their engines tuned and tires inflated.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., and Charlie Crist, R-Florida, according to the Los Angeles Times “appealed to those with the real power to make change — average citizens — to drive slower, keep engines tuned and tires properly inflated, to buy hybrids and lower overall consumption.”
My party is quickly beoming an embarrassment.

You know, what really disgusts me about the way John McCain is conducting himself can be traced back to 2000, when he was torn to shreds by George W. Incompetent. He was running a solid campaign, and then he was smeared beyond belief. I never thought that McCain would EVER stoop to use the same tactics that were used against him to get a political edge. I was, at one time, very fond of John McCain. He used to stand for something…he used to be about straight-talk and respect…now, he’s the same as every other conservative republican that I utterly detest. I know I’m not alone when I say that I am completely disappointed in John McCain, and I know I’m not alone when I say that I will do anything within my power, be it writing, phone calls, or door to door to make sure that John McCain NEVER gets elected President.

Remember what happened in 2000 with the “butterfly ballots” and the Supreme Court selection of a president that everybody now despises? Yes, the next election may well be stolen again. That’s the only way the GOP win elections. They are getting desperate with negative ads against Obama.

I’m glad to see McCain is finally fighting and calling Obama out on the carpet. Keep hitting John, the empty suit will fall to pieces. All the poor Obamabots will be in tears over the crticism of their messiah. This is the McCain I want to see – and Yes, I’m a Democrat!

Let’s see. Today we learned that we have the highest unemployment in four years. One big oil company has already announced the largest quarterly profit in U.S. History. Ordinary Americans are losing their jobs, homes, pensions and health care. They are and paying large amounts for gasoline with the oil companies wanting more drilling rights to continue raising the price and the profits. People are having trouble paying for their children’s education. Meanwhile corporation executives are getting huge golden parachutes. The U.S. is losing in Afghanistan and spending ten billion a month in Iraq, and this year we will have an almost 500 billion dollar projected deficit. If I were a rich Republican running for office and I owned eight houses, a private airplane, and millions of dollars in beer company profits, I’d try to switch the subject to the Old Testament times and Moses too.

Jobless rate climbs as 51,000 jobs vanish.
People are still losing there homes. And it took the democrats to force Bush to sign a bill protecting them.
Our national deficit is at an all time high of half a trillion dollars.
The dollar is weak, while the Iraq economy is soaring.
and out troops are still dying in Iraq, and the forgotten war Afghanistan.
Hey Jo still proud of the republicans.

It is silly to debate “who” started this country. It was established by people from every walk of life, from puritans to prisoners and every type in between.

The Alaska pipeline took a little less tha 3 years to complete, with oil flowing. Offshore drilling would take about 2 years. This estimate is from experts, not celeb airheads. If you want energy you have to drill, construct nuclear plants, construct windmills, hydro-electric dams and other energy producers. Obama’s plan will put America on “E”. If you want to walk, vote for the airhead dems.

Anyone wanting to go along with that can play right along with McCain.

I love reading your thoughts on Drilling for Oil. If it helps you guys out, this morning on the news that had a specialist on. Yes, we should drill, will it help us out, yes, But so will airing up your tires. If we start now by 2019 will will be saving 3 cents per gallon with drilling.
what we need is to stop talking about all of it and start doing it. If we do not by 2019 we will have nothing. And I mean not just drilling, but wind and anything else we can come up with. Stop talking and start doing.
McCain is a nasty, arrogant, disgusting man and he proved that today with this stupid ad. He is not a leader he is spoiled brat.

How about we start voting for the best people not for party favorites? look at the mess we have overall. We attack each other over stupid little things that don’t matter. congress isn’t doing anything. we pay their incomes. shouldn’t they get back to work and produce something worth while? Here they are going on vacation when they can’t complete the work load. Wow. Does McCain really have that little self respect? He is wallowing in his own self-pity. Maybe instead of acting like a two year old child throwing a temper tantrum, he should stick to the issues. Then again, McCain is the one who didn’t show up to vote for the GI Bill. McCain took the same trip Obama took, but he couldn’t get 200,000 Europeans to wave American flags. He’s acting ridiculously jealous of Obama. Tisk tisk McCain. If he had stayed the man he was 10 years ago, maybe he would have had a chance against Obama. Instead, he sold his soul to Bush and Rove inspired tactics.

I applaud McCain for calling Obama … not just on the race-baiting (which Obama has done throughout this political season) but also on his overblown self-image. I finally have respect for McCain for standing up to Obama in this way — something that neither Bill Clinton nor Hilary nor Geraldine Ferraro could do. This week I decided I will vote for John McCain. He did what the Clintons could not do – call Obama’s bluff. Good job!!

Barack is right. McSmallMan has nothing good to say about himself, he’s allowed America to see his true colors and man are they ugly. So instead of McBash talking about his policies and ideas for the future of America, he bashes Barack– day after day.
I get it; this is really what the American people want. They want someone that doesn’t focus on their needs, their struggles, their economic pressures, their concerns, yes, we want more bashing.
McCain, this has truly been a disgraceful week for you ‘my friend’ or should I say McLowBlows.
It’s sad that the American people really want to hear what the candidates have to say about the issues we’re facing and what they want to do to bring about a better America. I’ve only heard one candidate attempt to talk about the issues this week and that is Barack Obama. McBash on the other hand, he only talks about Barack Obama.

you have to start SOMEtime to get the benefit from drilling on our home grounds for oil… and expanded gas sources, too.
the longer you wait, the longer we’ll be beholdent to foreign suppliers.
if we start today, even if we don’t see any value for ten years…. we’re ten years ahead of the game then if we don’t start for another decade.
Yes, we should adjust our tires and drive more slowly…. that certainly will not hurt…. BUT THAT ALONE WILL NOT GET US FROM UNDER OUT OF THE CHOKE HOLD FOREIGN POWERS CURRENTLY HAVE OVER US!

Since the United States and most the people can’t agree on who to vote. I think nobody should VOTE at all. Think of what impact that will have when WE Americans don’t go to the polls. We need to show them it’s about the people and thier lives not the welfare of the government. They should all be kick out and it should start from the top down. Then Americans can hire government officals that have sense and know how to run this country. It is our right as citizens to do this you know. ONE VOICE IS HARD TO HEAR, BUT 20 MILLION VOICES CAN BE HEARD ACROSS AMERICA. SO DON’T VOTE AND LETS SHOW THEM WHO REALLY RUNS THIS COUNTRY, WE DO AND HAVE FROM DAY ONE. DON’T LET THEM TAKE OUR RIGHTS LIKE THEY ARE DOING NOW.

So McCain is echoing the favorite refrain of some of Hillary’s supporters,
that Obama’s supporters think he is the Messiah. Of course, those Hillary’s supporters were the only ones who kept bringing up the “Messiah” term. In fact, they are still doing it, almost as if they are obsessed about the concept. Why is McCain employing the same derisive taunt that did not work in the primary? Hillary lost. There is a saying, “those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

To those who support Pelosi and Reid’s talking points; I assume you are fine with $4-10 dollar gas since that is the reality of your platform. Remember that when you start whining about the price of gas. Do yourself a favor and look up the cost per kilowatt hour of the different energies and notice the glaring fact that liberals are opposing every single form of cheap energy. We need a comprehensive energy reform package including transitional use of clean coal, oil and nuclear along with long term goals of efficient alternative energy and conservation. You are fooling yourself if you think we can have affordable energy any other way.

justrighttoo, have you seen McCain read his speeches, he mumbles, and then he can never remember what he said the day before. Also Barrack has to be very careful baout what he says, because ignorant people like you would rather perpetuate a lie than to tell the truth.

The Repubs don’t want a well spoken, intelligent leader like Barack Obama as President. The Repubs are looking for someone they could sit down and have a beer with. You know, a “good ol’ boy” like George Bush. They know what they will get with someone of lesser intelligence because Bush set the mark for McCain. Just another easy puppet for the Neo-Cons to direct from behind the scenes.

Uhm, you pretty much have to be arrogant to suggest that you deserve to hold the highest office in the land, don’t ya think? It kinda comes with the territory…and how is Bush any less arrogant? He always seems to think that God is on his side and he can never make a mistake. He never admits that Iraq was a mistake even when they didn’t find WMD’s

After reading through these comments I have come to the understanding- Education should be this country’s number one concern.
Really?! This is okay from a presidential campaign?
I could see the humor if it was an SNL skit, but really?! This is suppose to sway me to McCain’s camp; simply because I am suppose to feel so embarrassed by their gross characterization of Obama?
This, folks, is propaganda. Really.

John McCain wants to be president. Of what, the fifth grade? Is this the best he and his campaign can do? Granted when the Bush creeps ran negative ads they had some style. The McCain junk is totally worthless. Things have really gone south in the Republican party.

I have been trying to educate myself on the candidates–what they stand for, what direction they will lead this country, will they help repair international relations, will they support healthcare and education, etc. The GOP is quickly helping me to decide–against Mr. McCain. Mr. McCain should fire his pr department or ad agency immediately and stop these juvenile ads. Why isn’t he spending his money on an ad showing how he’s going to support an alternative fuel, how he’s going to educate our children, how he’s going to deal with terrorism on his watch, etc.
I can’t believe an adult in such a powerful role will stoop to this level. Is this indicative of how he would run our country. Talk about not being ready.

You know what? I DO believe that Obama is THE ONE. I don’t care if that sounds idealistic or naive. He IS what this country has been waiting for: someone who will save us all from the hate and destruction of life and property perpetrated by George W. Bush and his ilk. Someone who the world WILL look up to, just as the Germans did last week. John McCain is a corporatist foil. Republicans don’t want an intelligent man to be president of the United States! They want someone stupid enough to push the button and wipe out thousands – no, hundreds of thousands, to protect their greedy interests.
All I can say is this: Is this the kind of product we can expect from McCain and his co-horts, who will, by the way, be running the country if he is elected? Prepare yourselves for this, my fellow Americans, because this race will not be decided by intelligent people. Intelligent people have ALREADY decided who they will vote for. This race is going to be decided by the Americans dumb enough to believe what they are told to believe and who don’t have the mental capacity to understand any of the issues.
If John McCain wins the presidency, this country is doomed.

This is so pathetic.
The mud they sling at each other is irrelevant.
ABC News (along with all the other Main-Stream-Media outlets) gives it front page status even though they know it is ‘Bread and Circus’. This junk distracts the American People from the real issues.
Let’s see some real journalism here (from somebody PLEASE!).
Why is nobody asking the Candidates the hard questions? Exactly how will they reduce the national debt (not just the deficit). What programs will they cut in order to fund the promises they are making? Exactly how are they going to re-fund the Social Security Trust. What is their plan to stabilize the dollar — or are they going to plead ignorance & impotence and turn it over to the Fed?
Neither Candidate has real answers to these questions. Why doesn’t the Media hammer the m on it!?
The Mediaused to be the Champion of the People. These days they are just part of the political spin machine.

To those who persist in believing the lies of McCain and the far right wing: though Obama is going to win in November, I really hope you all can go to some private island with McCain as your fearless leader.

If you are cynical and ‘cool’ you wont vote for Obama? But then why would you vote for _anyone_? Does this mean that McCain believes that graft and swag are the only reason to be in politics? It’s funny to see Republicans run these kinds of Campaign ads against the Democratic Nominee. Let us all recall another ‘superstar’ of yesteryear, a legitimate Movie Star in his own right, that visited Europe to throngs of Flag waving Europeans, who loved his movies, his image, and his plans to save the world….by running for the Office of US President. Remember his name ?????
Ronald Wilson Reagan !!!!
Yes sports fans, it was one of there own, and also another Republican, a legitimate Movie Star that ran for president of the NRA, his name??
Charlton Heston !!!!
Republicans didn’t have any qualms about using celebrity to attain high office of any kind in the past, they have done it many times.
I wonder what Mr. Reagan and Mr. Heston would have to say about the current crop of campaign ads Republicans are using in this campaign.
I’ll bet they are turning over in their graves, because of all the Hypocrisy.
I Hope the Democrats Win the White House, They deserve it !!!

Democratic Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis was the governor of Massachusetts at the time of Horton’s release, and while he did not start the furlough program, he had supported it as a method of criminal rehabilitation. The State inmate furlough program was actually signed into law by moderate Republican Governor Francis W. Sargent in 1972.

So. Dukakis went over to the prison with his keys, walked down the hall and said hey Willie, come here and lets get you released so you can get rehabed (wink wink) see you a few weeks.
Stop sniffing glue. Willie Horton was produced by Stevens Reed Curcio based in D.C. edited in sweet #7 at Hennger video. It was meant to incite and scare people. I worked in political marketing for 5 years and worked on many ads. I worked on a McCain ad when he was running for a senate re-election.

It will only encourage people to not for for McCain but see him as representative of a very crusty old guard that doesn’t want to relinquish control.
–Not that Obama has anything better to offer but at least he “sounds” inspirational, if not either very shrewd, naive or stupid to have had people like the terrorist Ayers as a good friend and Wright as his pastor and yet somehow have no clue of their thoughts. Talk about lack of discernment!

I am deeply disappointed that at a time when American people are suffering McCain and company are making a mockery of intellect of voters. He is not addressing the real issues at hand, instead he is playing games using smear tactics to rally the worst in people just to get a vote. Are many Americans that stupid to accept this behavior? I for one want change and I could care less about party lines. Today in the news we learn that oil companies have made big profits, Bush and family call Rush to thank him for his great work, Walmart is trying to manipulate votes and thousands of people have lost their jobs… that’s funny real funny. Let’s talk about real issues as adults on how to turn this country around and hold these politicans accountable to the people.
By the way, I donated to Obama last night as because that is change we can believe in!

Just 5 days ago, the Gallup Daily Tracking poll had Sen. Obama leading by nine points over Sen. McCain, 49-40. And now that same poll has them tied at 44-44. The latest Rasmussen Tracking poll has Sen. Obam up by one, 47-46. And the latest USA Today/Gallup poll has Sen. McCain up by four, 49-45. The Real Clear Politics average of 8 polls has Sen. Obama up by 2.6 points.
Even with all of Sen. McCain’s gaffes, bumbling speeches and attack ads, Sen. Obama is still unable to shake off the old man! So why should Sen. McCain run his campaign any differently?

Yeah, excellent job McCain…of once again avoiding the real issues the nation is facing and why you should be considered to lead us through them. But then again, maybe you’ve already told us all that we need to know about your capabilities.

McCain better spend his loot now because come general election time he will not be able to afford the comics and silly ads. Perhaps when he encounters this economic shortcoming, he will then connect with American voters. Wall Street or Main Street?

These political ads are not the extent of Sen. McCain’s campaining. He is out on the road addressing the real issues in his speeches and in town hall meetings. If you really care where Sen. McCain stands on the real issues just check out his website.

What some people fail to see in all this is that McCain’s attempt to catch Obama in his net of sarcasm about celebrityhood or “the One” is really just another bodyblow at the American people. Why would this meme about a “savior” be even remotely possible if Americans hadn’t been so numbed by the depth of failures produced by the past 7+ years of Republican rule? McCain wants people to forget about Iraq, the economy, Katrina, and just focus on how “ridiculous” or “uppity” for Obama to think he could actually do anything to turn this mess around. Kind of like his other rape jokes, McCain is subtly telling America, just “lie back and enjoy it,” cause it you know it ain’t gonna get any better.

Look folks, all week you argued like crazy people about the race card, and you know racism is like herpes: no one really wants to talk about it or give to it anyone else. It’s a bummer.

Wisdom says: Our country is 9 trillion dollars in debt and the last thing we can afford to do is elect a president that is promising trillions in new spending. We have to go in the opposite direction. We have to cut back on spending so we can start paying down the enormous debt.
The enormous debt you’re talking about was primarily created by the current Administration. They have borrowed and spent like there is no tomorrow. They created a war which is an enormous drain on the country’s finances. John McCain proposes to continue this expenditure into the far future. He says he’ll balance the budget in four years. Do you honestly believe that? He shifted his tax position from no new taxes to a maybe. The Tax Policy Center analysis of his proposals have him creating an additional $1.3 trillion more in debt than Senator Obama. If you are serious about reducing the debt, then you need to get off the false notion that Senator Obama is a socialist. Maybe, you need to really look at where the Bush policies that Senator McCain would continue have taken this country.

well Obama messed up the Iraq war as in

has been for years as a war..
so Now McCain Has nothing left to talk

then but … when the planners of
9/11 come a calling again they will
be joking… WE have had years to stop
them and NOW it seems even thinking
about hitting them in a new country that
may in effect be backing them is
off the table for McCain.. why ?
was Iraq just something to take the
American peoples mind off 9/11
So now we are right back were we started .. waiting for the next 9/11 event… oh when it comes … Please
McBush… dont talk about you are

there are a lot of people in history
that would say you are wrong about that
…. many times one man .. has changed
the course or world history….
in fact I think president Bush has
changed the direction or world history
for years and years to come, as in……wars and rumors of wars..
oh … in a saying 50 well make it

McCain’s insanity campaign grows expotentially by the day as opposed to the week. His unsound and vile character assassination rhetoric is sordid and base in every discernable way! Even the common man is able to discern that much! Unfortunely for the far right wing GOP, they are unable to fathom that the common man is much brighter than they give him/her credit for. Thus their campaign agenda backfires on them.

The Obama camp stated that the celebrity ad is insulting to the american people. I disagree. I am an american. I am not insulted. The McCain camp had bored me for quiet some time. Now, I feel liked a new energizer bunny. I also disagree in calling McCain a piece of ____ for these ads. Actually, Rick Davis was smart for quickly putting a cap on the race issue so Obama cannot use his skin color against McCain. He also responded much more carefully and respectfully than the Clintons. The truth was Obama had loose lip moments on many occasions. His own words are now being used against him. If he thinks he is sleek, he is not. He is not getting away this time, liked during the Democrat primary, with his comments that could have made this general election about race. Has Obama forgotten the primary is over? The general election is a much larger audience. Some people are not only hearing. We are listening. Some of us do not need a pamper. We need a leader. We don’t need to hear what we want to hear. We want to hear what we need to hear.

Senator McCain a third term of President George W. Bush. Senator Obama a second term of President Jimmy Carter. Both Presidents were the two worst President this country had in the last 35 years. Please Dems or Republicans give me somebody to vote for.

McCain is already on the curb looking up, you can’t get any lower….
McCain….a myth created by the media. McCain had become “obsessed” with Obama. The proof is in the pudding. And in relation to “The One” ad? “We were having some fun with our supporters who we sent it out to,” McCain explains.. “We are going to display a sense of humor in this campaign.” I don’t see an ad with Moses depicted for political gain as going over too well with his Christian supporters. When you have absolutely nothing intelligent or relevant to say, attack your opponent. It is becoming more and more clear every day – you see the difference between a man with intelligence, wit, compassion, energy, vast knowledge and drive….Senator Obama…then you see a man with little intelligence, no compassion, low energy, no drive, pitiful knowledge of what is important in this election and you have McCain…. You can tell that he is not liking what he’s doing. That’s why he seems so disjointed and strange. His soul belongs to the devil now, and though his mouth is stretched into the simile of a grin, it is no smile. He is a lost man.

Yesterday alone 100,000 people contributed to the Obama campaign. Over a third of those people – 33,000+ people – were first time contributors.
Even Ploufe said that was “remarkable”. Is it possible the McCain videos are lining Obama’s pockets as people, disgusted with his insistence on minimizing and “tabloidizing” America’s real issues, flock to Obama’s site to donate? It seems to me that someone’s raked in money and support in direct response to these ads, and it’s not McCain. LOL Keep up the good work McCain. You are lining Senator Obama’s campaign coffers with piles of money.

Barack Obama has the best political team the Democrats have put together in my lifetime (and I am 66). One hundred thousand people contributed to his campaign in one day. He is not in this thing to lose to a nasty, short, borderline senile, angry old man with nothing but platitudes to offer and a brand name that is in the toilet on its way to the sewer. Barack will turn the tables at a time and in a manner of his own choosing. We will all be saying, “Wow! that was frickin’ brilliant.” In the meantime, enjoy the desperation of the McCain campaign.

McCain doesn’t have to be Einstein. He only needs to demonstrate that he’s not worse than Obama – and he’s doing just that. The fact of the matter is that the Democratic party has overplayed their hand on many fronts. Their support of the Daily Kos vermin and Al Gore’s mythical truth serum for deconstructing modern civilization is tearing their party apart. I don’t care how hard the lunatic liberal media wants to force feed Obamania down America’s throat, just because Americans pay money to see actors playing President doesn’t mean they’ll vote for one.

Look at the state polls – state by state – they do not reflect the same “trends” MSM spouts every day. Today’s electoral vote projection (state by state polls): Obama 365, McCain 173. National polls do not election anyone – it is the state totals you want to keep your eyes on.

I don’t care if you hired Medussa and turned all of McCain’s team to stone, this political ad resonates with most of America and will continue to awaken the ‘type’ of Americans it will take to win the election. You may know the type I’m speaking of – the ones who don’t appreciate Obama pandering to Europeans in a weak attempt to peer-pressure Americans into accepting him. How frickin ridiculous he looked – I really feel for him personally. The man is intelligent and a worthy candidate for Presidency but a far cry from the type of leadership this country needs. While I’m certain the Mullah’s of Iran would prefer Obama over McCain, call me crazy, but I don’t think American will side with those who chant “Death to America”.

And study the swoon singing of his ‘fans’ since the early primaries. Study is record and background. I get sick thinking of this do nothing radical left Marxist, liberation theology student taking over the most powerful human position in the world. staniam – you really do need to take some courses about the electoral process. The electoral college totals are tracked on a daily basis (Monday through Sunday), by non-partisan trackers who do research for several organizations, and thereby, change on a daily basis. Posted by: spoon2456 | August 1, 2008, 11:54 pm 11:54 pm
Steve – okay let me explain because you and staniam seem to have a problem with your critical thinking processes. Independent tracking (since the term polls seems to confuse you two) – without political leanings in either direction – are tracked in each state. The electoral college map is adjusted according to the tracking data. National polls mean absolutelty nothing at this point regardless of which candidate you may be supporting – a “close race” only sells advertising time and newspapers.

Of course Sen Obama is African American and I am white person of mixed ethnicity. That is a neutral statement of fact. Barack Obama is also the first African American presidential candidate in our history. So we should pretend he’s just like every other potential or former president? Absurd.
It is not “racist” to acknowledge the difference in race among people, but it is “discriminating” to mock a person’s culture, unique social experience, community of ethnic friends, and family. Remember, our laws protect us from “discrimination”, not racist feelings. You need to clarify that to the viewers.
McCain is using suggestive imagery and false humor to mock Sen Obama’s achievements and popularity as well. Why? McCain is going down low to get the free, obsessive replays of his ads, to distract the conversation away from the issues, his weakness.

for repubs the sad news is that Obama stuff is selling 5 times greater than McCains stuff. the winner is Obama!

Propaganda 101:
Clearly thi is public relations (red: propaganda) war. In such wars those who have the most money for ads and those who lie least tend to win.
The money is on Obama’s side precisely because of hios popularity. You may mock him but he is laughing all the way to the bank.
The lies (willful distortions) are mostly on McCain’s side. With the help of his rapid response team and with the facts on his side, Obama wins as well.
His popularity is being used against him very effectively. I expect his reponse to be even more effective. Watch him sit down with the folks after the nomination; in sausage shops and super markets now that people know him.

staniam – exactly! The timess they have changed! An even McCain, in is own words, has said he is not fit for this race: I’ll be too old to run for president in 2008 says McCain in 2000 interview with Jim Lehrer.
Jim Lehrer: Finally, for the record, you have not lost your desire to be President of the United States, have you?
John McCain: Certainly it’s been put in deep cold storage.
Lehrer: But you haven’t lost it.
McCain: Well, look, in 2004 I expect to be campaigning for the re-election of President George W. Bush, AND BY 2008, I THINK I MIGHT BE READY TO GO DOWN TO THE OLD SOLDIER’S HOME AND AWAIT THE CAVALRY CHARGE THERE.

Some of those comments of Obamas were a joke. Some others were referring to the democratic party “we are the hope…” he was talking about the democratic party. Whomever created the commercial knows that, as they obviously must have had to listen to the entire speech to find quotes to put in their add. So what does it say about someone who would do that? Who are these people who hear Obama say something and understand perfectly well what he means, yet purposefully manipulate it to have another meaning. That is slander. Pure and simple. I wonder if he can charge mCcain with slander because that is whta it is.

And McCain calls Senator Obama a celebrity? McCain wsa the first one to coin that term – in his own behalf!
BUSTED! McCain’s own website called him a political celebrity—until they scrubbed it.
The 2006 midterm campaign had just ended when McCain took the first formal step toward a presidential run in November. He formed an exploratory committee and gave a speech casting himself as a “common-sense conservative” in the vein of Ronald Reagan who could lead the party back to dominance after a dreadful election season by returning to the GOP’s core principles.
A POLITICAL CELEBRITY, McCain is considered a top contender for the nomination.

I think the Democrats think they have found themselves the Unimpeachable One. Then they won’t have to worry about stacking the courts with liberals who hate us average types whose crime is breathing and paying all the taxes. McCain never even scratched the surface.
Anyone out there who remembers America burning 1965 – 1992 knows the over reaction a small but violent minority forced a cowardly majority to take. Like inequality in the name promoting quality.

So, doesn’t this kind of make the Biblical account of Moses look ridiculous?
Posted by: Mike | August 2, 2008, 1:28 am 1:28 am
Never, never use Religion as a polical tool. This ad tells more about McCain then it does about Obama. I don’t know what McCain is trying to do, but this is not the way to do it. I am not a Christian per se, but this ad offense me to no end. I just don’t like spirituality being use this way. It tell me that McCain has no soul or hear and it scares me to no end. If a man goes this low about something that all American of different faith love and revear, then what stops him from using anything to get his end. God said “Be not mocked, for your sins shall be seen. Remember there are numberous accounts in the Bible of men in power mocking God or His people coming to terriable ends by doing this. McCain is walking on very thin ice her and the Anger of God may very well strike him down and the people who think that this ad is funny, please be careful. McCain is not respectful of not only the people of this nation, their spiritual beliefs, but has no respect for himself. Only a man who has no spiritual connection can come up with this type of thing. No matter what you think about Obama, Mocking Biblical figures is not the high or right road. You don’t insult the very people you are trying to get to vote for you.
This is the second time in as many weeks that the McCain camp has insulted the American people, first it was the winning remark, now it is making fun of our Bibical beliefs. This is not good. I think that we should be praying for McCain to ask forgiveness not only to the people, but he had better ask forgiveness from God. “What does it posper for a man to lose his soul for polical gain? This is a true moral issue and I fear that McCain has failed the test and will continue to do so, because he has none.

Traditionally, conservatives have two themes in their campaigns. Either they try and make you afraid of the terrible things that will happen if you elect someone else, or they try and make their opponent seem ridiculous.
So in this matter, at least, John McCain is acting like a traditional conservative.
The sad thing is that this kind of stuff worked for so long. The good thing? It doesn’t work any more. The days when the MSM accepted anything and passed it on to the public without checking are over. Within an hour of this thing going public, video clip showing the context of the Obama misquotes were making the rounds. Welcome to the 24 hour news cycle, folks.
I’m not sure which is more pathetic, using the thoroughly discredited Dana Millbank quote, or digging Charlton Heston up from the cinema graveyard to try and do the same thing that wigmaster Heston used to do to Democratic candidates in the old days.
Posted by: Psaltseller | August 2, 2008, 4:53 am 4:53 am
I think Obama supporters are wearing blinders again and are not seeing what the ad is saying…. anyone with an open mind can clearly see that Obamas’ overtones and his promises are way out there in twilight zone. if he wants you to believe in all these changes in the world he gets people pumped up with pretty little speeches he wants you to believe he can do to get a vote or support from anyone anywhere. McCain does have a much more realistic approach verses Obama and I think that is what the ad is about.
Posted by: bite me | August 2, 2008, 5:06 am 5:06 am
Personally I think some of the people in this country are intoxicated with Obama’s speeches….and I will be happy when they sober up. I think the ad speaks loud and clear.
Posted by: bite me | August 2, 2008, 5:17 am 5:17 am
Obama is about change alright… He changes constant…His speeches captures the spellbound audiences and intoxicates them with his words and his impossible promises…and leads them hopefully to the polls in his favor in Novemeber…It will be a sobering experience in the next days if he gets elected. I think the ad points out NO ONE has superpowers we are all human and that is all we are. McCain is realistic if you would open your minds.

Excellent ads by the McCain campaign. The best proof of the ads’ brilliance is the media’s derision. The media has an investment in their creation of Obama as a “lightworker” so naturally anything that dilutes and mocks that investment-as these two ads do brilliantly – has to be condemned.

Where did the John McCain of 2000 go? John McCain has completely morphed into George W. Bush. Same economic policies that help the rich people and pad the pockets of selfish corporations. Same arrogant foreign policy that puts on blinders and makes the world hate the US. Same nasty campaign tactics used to distract voters from asking the hard questions about issues. We should be afraid…but not of Barack Obama…we should be afraid of another 4 years of the Republicans playing the American people as fools.

It would be a very sad time in America’s history if McCain were to be elected President. Our standing among the world community will continue it’s downward spiral into an abyss. He has nothing to offer the world, but more wars and violence. He claims he understands how hard Americans struggle economically, yet he wears $520 shoes. He has the best health insurance coverage, but wants Americans to have an inferior one. He wants to turn Social Securty over to the greedy hands of corporate America which always involves a profit making motive in their scheme, and at our expense. He claims his experience is superior to Obama, but neglects to say that that experience is part and parcel of the reasons why we are in this mess here and abroad. Now he wants to invoke religion and all that is sacred to many in a desperate ploy to win this election. America, nothing can be crystal clear now; that that McCain has no values and no moral compass. He does not represent what makes America great, but what ails America. You can vote to continue this misery, to continue to be scorned by the world community, to continue to see more wars and more violence, to continue to see more economic misery, to continue to see a welfare state for the wealthy and Corporate America, to continue to see our health care system in crisis, and to continue to see the next generation saddled with all the woes left from this generation. Or we can vote for someone who will change the course and future for America today and for America tomorrow. You have that choice. It’s that simple, just look around, open your eyes and mind. It’s all there for you to see and understand.

All Christians in this nation has suddenly derailed without respect for the Almighty God that created heaven and earth.
It is sad to see people like Dobson who said he’s a mad of God, still retreating in silence who a political office seeker mock the words of the descendants of God. A guide that was acted in other to remind God’s children of the important wishes of God to mankind.
Most time we keep spend time criticizing Muslims for asking for respect for the God they worship, by reacting forcefully to mockery of Prophet Mohammed.
It is sad that no Pastor, Evangelist, Bishop, or Rev. Fathers has spoken out against this act. This is shameful, disgrace and completely unacceptable for McCain to mock the work of God for political gains.

McCain’s ad shows the desperation of a man drunk with the thought of achieving power at any expense. His whole life story is riddled with his selfish desire to acquire wealth and power. He left his disabled wife to acquire wealth, and has been chasing the power of the Presidency for many, many years now. This is all about what is “good” for him, and not at all about what is good for America. He has demonstrated quite clearly time and time again that he will say and do anything to achieve his goal. He attempts to degrade Obama but instead degrades people of faith and their belief in what is sacred to them. It is simply appalling to see this from a candidate, but much more troubling is to see the extent of what he will do to accomplish his desires. This is a man to be very worried about. This is not the man that commands respect, but one that is suspect and dangerous. This is a man who puts himself above decency and values, and who puts himself above the sacred beliefs of many, for a few votes more if they can be had. What a sad day it is in America when this very hollow man can even be considered as a candidate to represent and to lead this nation as our President. Very sad indeed.

Latest polls show that 15.8% of Americans think this country is heading in the right direction, while 79.5% says the country is heading in the wrong direction (just take the economy for one). So how can McSame possibly turn this country around. Obama was right when he asked McSame about the ad. “Is this the best you can do?” stooping to such low tactics… the mentality is starting to show. To spend his supporters money on negativity what is he going to do with taxpayers money… another war?

How many hundreds of thousands of men have died(many in my family)defending this land so Obama and McCain can give it away-how horrible. They could have had a real border check and let only verified workers in here for a stated period but they followed Bush who wanted slave labor for his agriculture and construction buddies. It makes me very sad and angry to see two grown men who want to run our country acted like two year olds. I think they need to both go home and look in the mirror to see who they are, and to remind themseleves of why they started this campaign. I don’t care what color you are, nor do I care what you did twenty years or longer ago. I want someone who will put their feels into their job and do what is best for our country, and that is get us on the right track to a better life for our familes and future families. This is not the time to sling mud or name calling it is the time to show us why you are the best man for the job. If you are calling each other names now. What will you do in the White House when you really have to deal with whole lot more pressure? I don’t think using Moses as part of an insult funny. I think it was very stupid and I didn’t laugh. I teach preschool and hear name calling and you aren’t friend all day long. I tell my students if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all just walk away. Something these two men can’t seem to do, beacuse they think it get votes. Well it wont get this ones vote. If I where the mother of these two grown men I would have a whole lot to say to them, but I an not so that is why I am writing this. All I can say is grow up and be gentlemen and get back to the job at hand. It really is getting OLD.

One might think that McCain has a self-confidence problem and is committing the sin of envy. It would appear that he is not ready to lead the nation.
Its disappointing that a man I respected so much for standing up to the GOP during the past 7 years has fallen victim to their venomous meanspirted nature.
The GOP is like an insidious beast that feeds of the fear of people scaring them into giving up their rights and civil liberties while enriching the GOP and their cronies.
Reagan would not recognize the GOP in its current form. the party of personal freedom, life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness is now the party fear, hate, big government and the pursuit of distrust.

Sandy, in a town hall meeting an individual was attempting to ask a question but before he could acually get the full question out Sen. McCain gave his answer. The individual said: “President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years…”
Sen. McCain’s exact response was:
“Make it a hundred. We’ve been in South Korea … we’ve been in Japan for 60 years. We’ve been in South Korea 50 years or so. That would be fine with me. As long as Americans …As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. That’s fine with me, I hope that would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where Al Qaeda is training and equipping and recruiting and motivating people every single day.”
Sen. McCain was NOT talking about a 100-year war. We are not still waring with Japan or South Korea. You know, Sen. Obama knows, the Democrats know and the entire world knows Sen. McCain was talking about a non-combatant PRESENCE in the area like we have in Japan (and Europe) and South Korea.

I realize that McCain is not a Christian, but many of us voters are and I find this one of the most disgusting ads EVER in a campaign. To use a religious figure as an attack ad is beyond anything that I have ever seen.
The priest at my church last night was mortified that Moses could be used in this way. McCain must HATE christian folk like me. And the fact that his campaign thinks this is “funny” says alot about the candidate.
Really disturbing!

It is truly pathetic to see individuals support these antics by McCain and his campaign. The “Straight Talk Express” has turned down the low road of desperation. If you haven’t noticed, the last, almost dozen video’s produced by this desperate campaign haven’t been about any solutions to America’s ills, but aimed at the destruction of an individual. This latest, using the Lord’s disciples to mock Senator Obama is the lowest yet. It truly saddens me to see the Republican party take such a low and blasphemous approach. It’s no wonder mainstream Republicans are abandoning the party by the thousands. While Senator Obama continues to put forth policy aimed at returning good common sense governance to America, McCain continues on the path that is leading to destruction and instability. America can’t afford another four years. Fellow Republicans, it’s time to realize that McCain and the present Republican party no longer represents the values of mainstream America.

“It truly saddens me to see the Republican party take such a low and blasphemous approach.”
It delights me to see a man with a sense of humor puncture the ego of a man without one.
The ruse of trying to rile the evangelicals with charges of blasphemy is cute. More divisive tactics from The One?

This is a great web ad. As though Mccain took what everyone has been thinking and summarized it in a 60 second ad. I can assure you it wasn’t just republicans that thought he was developing a god-like complex….Independents and democrats were also thinking the same. Over confidence is one thing…arrogant is another and I think Obama went far beyond arrogance and that is most uncomfortable aspect of this for me.

Does McCain really want to go there & invite these sorts of comparisons? After all McCain is as old as Moses & last I checked he’s never parted the sea. In fact he’s been wrong on just about everything.

Obama so lacks experience and credential that all he has is mystique and myth. Take that away and Obama is in deep trouble. Make it an object of derision and the campaign is over. Witness how Obama’s momentum came to a screeching halt in the latter primaries after Jeremiah Wright emerged and Saturday Night Live pilloried the media love and bias given Obama. After that, Obama barely limped on to the nomination. The McCain ads are potentially so devastating to the Obama campaign — and hence the faux outrage — because they risk becoming supplanting the image of Obama the rock star for an image of Obama the empty glam celebrity joke who claims to be able to make the waters recede. If THAT images ever gets traction in the voters’ minds this campaign will effectively be over by mid-September. Obama knows that better than anyone hence the desperate tone of the response.

The Democrats have handed the Republicans a winning issue–not even at $10.00 a gallon for gasoline will the Senate Democrats consider it enough of an emergency to allow offshore drilling. And the Democrats in the House went on their 5-week vaction without even voting on whether or not to rescend the ban on offshore drilling.
Wake up people. When will you realize that the Democrats really don’t care how much you pay for gasoline.
The Democrats and many of you say that it will take 10 years before we produce enough oil to effect the price of oil and gasoline. YET look what happened just last week when President Bush signed an executive order rescending a previous executive order banning offshore drilling. The price of oil dropped $10.00 per barrel. And the average price of regular unleaded gasoline dropped back under $4.00 per gallon. Just imagine what would have happened had the Congress actually lifted the ban on offshore drilling before going on their vacation.

Reading some of these comments one might come away believing that Sen. McCain was the first person to make reference to Sen. Obama’s followers turning him into a messiah like figure. These references have been around since at least January. And what did Sen. Obama do to quell this comparison? Nothing! What did you followers do to quell this comparison? You only encouraged the comparison with your adoration for Sen. Obama. And he has been enjoying your adoration. So now that Sen. McCain points out your adoration for Sen. Obama in a political ad, you claim that Sen. McCain is being blasphemous. If anyone is being blasphemous it is many of you supporters of Sen. Obama who literally worship him as if he were a deity.

If this is the “best” McCain’s flunkies can come up with they must be really afraid. The entire McCain campaign is sliding into desperate attack mode, Karl Rove style–but much more dim witted.
My vote is for Obama, I may disagree with him from time to time, but I will not vote yet another Republican admistration in. Just look at where we are now compared with 8 yrs ago.
Time to give the Democrats a chance to repair the damage and rescue our young men and women from the obscene occupation Bush got us into and McCain wants to continue indefinitely, and give the working poor a chance for a decent future, not to mention seriously working towards energy independence–and not by drilling for oil but by furthering alternative energy development.
Let’s talk issues, not sling mud.

Da-man, how does waiting 20 years for the alternative energy sources to become 50.01% of our source for energy “seriously” work towards our energy independence? At the end of that 20-year period 49.99% of our energy needs will still come from oil. And without new drilling we will still be importing over 70% of our oil.
The REAL way we can become independent is to drill here and now; build new refineries here and now; build new nuclear plants here and now; and develop other alternative energy sources here and now. Then in 20 years even should alternative energy sources still represent just 50.01% of our total energy; 10% or less of the remaining 49.99% will be imported oil.

You simply can’t imagine the number of devout Christians I’ve spoken with in the last couple of days, who consider that ad to be Blasphemy. Quite a few of these people were (and notice my use of the word “were”) planning to vote for John McSame. However, after seeing the ad, to a person they have all expressed disgust and contempt with McSame, and have switched to supporting Sen. Obama. The LAST thing I want from a Presidential candidate is JOKES, I am looking for SERIOUS answers to the REAL PROBLEMS this nation is facing
These types of puerile attempts at levity have no place in a Presidential campaign. John McCain is running for the most important position in this land, not to host a comedy show on television.

I really wish people would open their eyes on Obama. He hasn’t shown anything, but a smooth talkin flashy dresser. Folks he was totally against off shore drilling, now he is for it. He lies, more than my sister,,, who is psyco, and a habitual liar. Don’t just go with the flow. Look at Obama’s voting records for yourself. not this guy writing this story. CNN, CBS, FOX, all the news media, want to persuade you to vote for their guy,,,, do your homework yourself as I did. I think you will find, Obama, is not going to help this country. he will raise taxes, he will lose jobs, and with the deficit the way it is, imagine where we will be in 4 years with Obama, not sure of anything. Have you heard Obama speak without a teleprompter? He can’t get his facts straight. he will not always have a teleprompter around when meeting with Foreign leaders. He will be a puppet to foreign governments. We will owe the world. We need a strong President. I am not very happy with McCain either, but he is the best of the two. Oh, and by the way, I am a Democrat. Do you homework, vote whats good for the USA, not whats the cool thing to do.

Barack Obama, if elected will have a free hand with congress to do whatever he wants. Likewise the congress will have a free hand to push through whatever liberal legislation they desire to pass. Our government has already grown to such an enormity that the bureaucracy itself has become a tremendous burden to the taxpayers. Senator Obama wants to grow the government and to increase taxation to support the growth. The growth is to provide for the people. By providing for the people and increasing taxation, productivity and personal accountability suffer. I am an independent. I will vote for John McCain not because of his great leadership abilities, but to prevent further deterioration of our constitution. I encourage all Republicans, all independents, and all conservative Democrats to join together, to vote for America, vote for McCain, to help save our nation from a time when under the leadership of extremist democrats we would move closer to becoming a socialist nation.

these ads have absolutly no subtance to them…
The sad thing is they seem to work in influencing the simple minded, and celebrated by a republican machine that doesn’t care abuot the lower and middle classes. All they care about is maintaining control, and to continue to protect the wealthy.
I honestly will never vote for republican.
Although I do bleieve we need another political p[arty to accurately represent the majority of Americans… I will stick with the democrats until the fine day… No matter what.

the Dude (and many of you bloggers): Sorry but you couldn’t be more wrong. On several levels.
1. Sen. McCain’s stand on the issues can be seen on his website. They can be heard in the speeches and town hall meetings that he has every week.
2. Sen. McCain’s campaign is not about you. One of the purposes of a campaign ad is to get your attention…YOU WILL REMEMBER THIS AD long after the election…so it worked. Another purpose of a campaign ad is to convey a message. This “The One” ad certainly does that: “Barack Obama may be ‘The One’…but is he ready?”
3. This is not a low point in politics. Far from it. Or don’t you remember the NAACP’s campaign ad showing Gov. George W. Bush driving a pickup truck dragging a black man in chains on a dirt road during the 2000 presidential campaign?
4. Our country is NOT dying! In fact, considering all the hits that our economy has taken this is nothing more than a good size bump in the road. Didn’t you notice that GDP has GROWN the past two quarters? Yes folks…even with the slump in the housing market (which is cyclical — when prices get too high, people stop buying; when prices get low enough, people will start buying again); the skyrocketing prices for energy; and the huge hit with the subprime mortgage crisis and the massive number of home foreclosures — GDP is still hanging on and GROWING. Albeit it just barely grew at 0.9% in the first quarter; but then it doubled that with a 1.9% gain in the second quarter. And unemployment at 5.7% is not the end of the world for our economy. In the seven years of 1980-1986 we averaged 8.0% unemployment.
5. This has been a very long campaign. Besides we are still in the primary season. The real general election campaign doesn’t begin until the candidates are officially nominated in their respective conventions. What this campaign needs is MORE humor. I say let the laughs begin!

John McCain, Christians are not gonna forgive you for mocking them and making them look like crack pots unless you apologize. You just shot yourself in the foot McCain I think you just forgot who your base is and should apologize to Christians for making a mockery of religion. To be honest, Christians are really turned off by John McCain and will not vote for him. Many people in my Church are voting for Sen Obama because he is a open Christian and has a great respect for Christian values unlike McCain.
Posted by: Orlando B. Fremont Ohio | August 4, 2008, 9:16 am 9:16 am
Orlando, nice try! What is offensive is how the followers of Sen. Obama have elevated him to such a high pedestal, ascribing upon him characteristics of a deity. The media picked up on this at least as far back as January. And some have even carried this even further. Here is a quote from Timothy Noah from Slate.com in an article that he posted back on Feb. 13, 2008: “I merely suggested that a few excitable souls in the media bear the apparant conviction that Obama is the Redeemer.”
Instead of quelling this tide of emotion, Sen. Obama appears to have accepted this and is using it to further his candidacy. A case in point is the quote used in Sen. McCain’s ad: “A light will shine down from somewhere. It will light upon you. You will experience an epiphany and you will say to yourself, ‘I have to vote for Barack.’”
Now THAT is offensive.

It’s a great analysis of this ad and near the bottom is a break-down of all the crazy illusions to the rapture, the Left Behind series, Obama being the anti-Christ, Revelation, and a plethora of other religious icons and imagery. This ad isn’t a joke and it was not made light-heartedly, as the McCain camp has said. Every word and scene was deliberate and potentially damaging to the Obama campaign because it feeds on people’s misguided fears. Worth a look: http://faithfuldemocrats.com/content/view/778/92/

McCain is pathetic. He can’t even give a good argument of why Obama can’t lead or why we should vote him to become president. Instead he has look passed all of our important issues and has become some sort of immature teen. Why would you compare Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton in one ad then call him Moses in another. Who doesn’t want to be like Moses? McCain has disrespected all Christians! McCain is ridiclous. He has now lost all respect from me and a potential vote.
