McCain Energized on Energy
ABC News’s Bret Hovell reports: With the cooling towers of the Enrico Fermi nuclear plant in the background, Sen. John McCain called for an expanded push into nuclear power, reiterating his plan to drill for oil off shore, and criticizing his rival for the White House for his energy policies.
McCain seemed to be referring to charges Obama made today, as well as in a recent ad, in which the Democrat accused the Republican of being in the pocket of Big Oil because of campaign contributions made to his campaign. (Similar contributions were made to Obama, but in lesser total amounts.)
McCain’s response seemed to be answering a slightly different charge.
“I think he might be a little confused,” McCain said with a chuckle. “Because when the energy bill came to the floor of the Senate, full of goodies and breaks for the oil companies, I voted against it, Senator Obama voted for it.”
“People care not only what you say but how you vote,” McCain said.
McCain also reiterated his “all of the above” approach to solving the energy crisis, he plugged off-shore drilling hard, and he criticized Senator Obama’s apparent flip-flop on that issue.
“I noticed that there’s confusing, now, information from Senator Obama as to whether he actually supports off-shore drilling or not,” McCain said. “The fact is that we have to drill here and we have to drill now, and we have to dill immediately.”
And he again called on Congress to come back from recess to work on the energy crisis, and asked Obama to do the same.

Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
I really like McCain the more I Look at his Energy Policy. Obama is way off the mark. Obama will lead us into depression. McCain has the right answers to get the economy rolling again.
Energy is the basis of a strong economy. We need all the energy we can get as low priced as possible because we can make a profit on energy. McCain is the one for me.

McCain SHOULD hammer away at the energy issue. American people are CLEARLY with him on this issue. Pelosi was DUMB to shut down debate on the offshore issue. It has HURT OBAMA and will continue to do so. Oil industry leaders say that if permits are not held up we could see oil results with three years with the added effect of lowering oil prices set by OPEC. If speculators are made to come up with fifty percent cash, prices will drop some more. CONGRESS NEEDS TO GO BACK TO WORK ON THIS ISSUE BIGTIME AND …. RIGHT NOW!! Of course Obama seems to have wavered AGAIN on offshore drilling, so WHO KNOWS WHAT HIS OIL POLICY IS? I FORGOT – HIT BIG OIL WITH A WINDFALL PROFITS TAX AND GIVE EVERYBODY A THOUSAND BUCKS, BRILLIANT – GREAT WAY TO PRODUCE MORE OIL. OBAMA’S IDEA TO RELEASE SOME OF OUR RESERVES ISN’T TO BRIGHT EITHER – PROBABLE FLARE-UP WITH IRAN COULD SHUT DOWN MIDEAST OIL TOMORROW – WE NEED TO KEEP THOSE RESERVES INTACT – ALL OF IT. OBAMA,PEPOSI AND REED – WHAT A TEAM!!!

Does McCain understand that you just can’t run out and build 45 nuclear power plants? It will take years to get through all the regulatory red tape and then, where do you put them? And where do put the nuclear waste? As the people in Nevada (Yucca Mountain) know, nuclear power sounds like a good idea but it also has risks. Obama understands this. He’s also for expanded nuclear power as long as we figure out how to safely dispose of the waste.

Great move by McCain…
it highlights that if we want to get off OPEC and their cartel, we need to do something here like nuclear power, that, sorry to burst your bubble liberals, it is safe!
only one accident and it was contained!
you show ANY other industry that only has had one mayor accident…..lol…! can’t do it!
McCain has the answer and Obama has the same old song and dance of the democrats…conserve! It is 1978 all over again and Jimmy Carter wearing a sweater telling us to turn down the thermostats and freeze at home…lol…pathetic!

The Japanese leaked over 300 gallons of radioactive water into the Sea of Japan just last year following an earthquake.France found radioactive water leaking into their ground water and over 100 cases of employee exposure to radiation. The UK in 1995 did an extensive study on the cost effectiveness of nuclear power to decrease carbon emissions and found it least cost effective. The mining and shipping of uranium were at such a high cost that taxes would need to be increased and CO2 emissions would negate the gains of the plant due to the ongoing mining and shipment of uranium.

Wow its amazing the people dont know that offshore drilling is useless….stop believing movies people by the time we could get offshore drilling going we will already have viable electric cars…20 YEARS to save 20 cents a gallon. Dont listen to everything you hear and do some independent research..I know its work but its the only way you can make a good decision. How quickly do you think you can put an oil rig up? PS what you saw in the movie armagedon wasnt real either. Find the truth yourself dont expect people to tell it to you…especially not these news agency’s. There in one or the others pockets too.

“With the cooling towers of the Enrico Fermi nuclear plant in the background”
The plant that had the first nuclear problem, the one that coined the phrase “china syndrome” was chosen by McCain to speak about nuclear safety, the only thing missing in this fantasy was Britany and Paris or maybe McCain is still looking for Moses.

He understood nothing, nada, zero-bama.
All he could come up with for his long-term energy policy was 1 million electric plug-ins, and making you to use 15% less energy (there goes your new home theatre). He thinks this will solve you foreign oil-dependence, wait, plus if you inflate your tires.
Did he forget to mention, and deliberately not to mention (which is deception), or have no clue that 80% of electricity in this country was generated by burning coals and natural gas, which will generate more green gas than Al Gore could ever dreamed of?
Building 0, fittingly to Zero-bama, nuclear power plants is not for nuclear energy.

Joe–The other day on TV, several oil co. exs. were stating they could have new gas at the pump in three years if all the permits were approved immediately in certain off-shore areas. This would make prices drop much sooner than 10 to 20 years. Seems the democrats are enjoining the energy crises. They have something to blame the Bush Administration for.

In case your political Jesus did not tell you anything about it since he is a clueless Zero-bama, here is how nuclear energy has to do with oil:
You will have the energy in the form of electricity, which can be used to power your cars, which in turn will reduce your need for gasoline, which in turn will reduce your need for oil.
80% of electricity currently is produced by burning coals and natural gas, or fossil fuels, both pollute your clean air, just as when Zero-bama airs.
Zero-bama makes a hype of producing 1 million electric plug-in hybrids, but he has no clue that it does not do a dent on energy reduction nor oil-independence. 1 million cars constitute less than 0.77% of the CURRENT number of vehicles on the road, plus he will destroy all Al Gore’s hope of saving the planet because he will use electricity generated by coals to power the cars and because he proposes to build zero, nada, zero-bama nuclear plants.

Obama is Pelosi’s puppet when it comes to energy and America knows it. She even shut the lights off in the house to dismiss early, however, the GOP wouldn’t let that happen. Obama, losing in the polls and continuing to fall behind, is now flip flopping all over the place….He’s beginning to sound more and more like Hillary…..he’s agreeing with everything she stated in the primaries that he before, had disagreed. I laugh everytime I hear Obama giving a speech because, I wonder, how is he going to weasal out of this one. I’ll have to give it to Obama…he keeps America laughing, that is, at his “emptry rhetoric and no substance”. I see his campaign continuing to implode daily as President McCain continues to rise in the polls. What I think would happen is that Hillary would come away witht he nomination at the Convention. I hear more and more SuperDelegates that are in disbelief of Obama and are wanting to switch their support of him to Hillary. Now, if that happens, Hillary has my vote, otherwise, I’ll vote for President McCain!

If you are talking about the Oct 1966 incident, that was more popularized by the book and song “We Almost Lost Detroit”. The real incident was a lot tamer; there were no contamination leakage and no injuries. That specific reactor operated for another 6 years and then it was decommissioned in 1972. Why don’t you READ about it, rather than listening to silly jingles and accepting movie clips as facts. Oh, I forgot, you zombied Democrats love doing that, following the masses and lapping up the info that is just spoon fed to you. When your idol Pelosi, took office and had the Democratic Congress in 2006, the price of gas has risen over $1.50 per gallon and over $80.00 a barrel. Now, Pelosi, Dean, and Reid, played their “pawn” Obama and got him the nomination. Now, the “pawn”, being supported by these three stooges is moving all over the chess board of the election and they can’t seem to control him as well as they like. Even though, the “pawn” Obama does listen to his mentor Pelosi. I’m sitting back and watching the 3-ring circus of the Democrats. I hope and pray Hillary comes away with the nomination, if not, I’ll vote for McCain, along with 18 million other Hillary supporters. Pro-energy House Republicans are doing just that this week, refusing to let Nancy Pelosi and her anti-energy allies get away with ducking the energy issue.
On Friday morning, Nancy Pelosi suddenly and without warning, adjourned the House of Representatives. She knew how badly the anti-energy left was losing the argument over energy and knew she couldn’t allow a full day of discussion about the American Energy Act to take place in front of the C-Span cameras and press. So she called the vote to adjourn, and when House Republicans refused to leave, Nancy Pelosi ordered the microphones and lights in the House be turned off.

It becomes more apparent that McCain cannot deal with the details involved in complex issues. We are seeing evidence of an aging generation increasingly unable to deal with information overload and resorting to simplistic slogans to fend off the morass of facts and figures our new president must be ready to accomodate. The knowledge explosion that has taken place over the last 20 years and continues to accelerate has left Senator McCain and even the Clintons to some extent struggling to survive the onslaught. They depend on a young army of mentally agile knowledge workers charged with digesting and feeding them positions they can articulate and defend. Senator Obama seems more naturally able to handle this task since he has come of age more or less in the middle of it. Being 63 myself and still actively employed in Information Technology I can say that I think a president nowadays should be younger than me because no matter how clever you think you still are, a younger brain is what we need in the office of the president.

Obama losing favor
Considering that McCain is running a lackluster campaign and that Obama just completed his “I am the world” tour, McCain should be seeing Obama’s taillights disappear over the horizon. Yet, Obama can’t seem to shake McCain.
The American people, or at least a very large population of people, are continuing to not find substance in Obama as the proverbial onion continues to be peeled. Remember, early on in a campaign the political types of both parties are paying attention, but as the campaign continues on, those non-political undecided voters begin to pay attention. These are the folks who Obama is not winning over, and McCain is becoming the default go to guy, for lack of anyone else being remotely viable.

New York Post:
One more week, one more Barack Obama reversal on a key issue.
Actually, make that two reversals. The Democratic presidential hopeful says he’s now open to easing the offshore-drilling ban, and he wants to tap the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
What a difference a few polls make, no?
Until recently, Obama was adamantly against offshore drilling and tapping the SPR.
Why the shift? Because voters are longing for relief from $4 gas and he thinks his new views will win them over.
So much for principles.

San Francisco Chronicle:
Sen. Barack Obama’s energy policy is offering more flip flops than a Lake Tahoe souvenir stand.
First the presumptive Democratic nominee opposes offshore oil drilling, but, wait, now he doesn’t. Second, he never suggested dipping into national petroleum reserves, and now he wants to open the spigot.
And remember how he hooted at suspending federal gas taxes as a primary-season stunt? Now, he wants $1,000 rebate checks mailed out to families, paid by a windfall profits tax on the oil industry that was tried and dumped in the 1980s.
The crushing power of $4-a-gallon gas lies behind these changes along with polls showing his modest lead is dwindling. Other polls, showing a slim majority of the country now favors coastal drilling, have made it easier to switch positions with little pain.
But the ideas that Obama is now embracing come loaded with flaws and offer the driving public only momentary relief at best.

McCain’s grownup energy policy is forcing Obama to become more nuanced than John Kerry.
According to Newsweek, McCain’s energy plan has left the Obama camp sputtering: McCain’s flurry of concrete proposals—including a call for 45 more nuclear power plants, a $300 million prize to the designer of a new electric car battery, overturning the 27-year ban on offshore drilling and a $5,000 tax credit for people who buy “zero-emissions” cars put Obama on the defensive.
So much for the pressure gauges…lol…Obama!

Obama losing support among young, women POSTED August 5, 12:00 PM
International /Associated TV poll of 1,011 likely voters finds McCain leading Obama 42%-41% with Bob Barr (L) and Ralph Nader each taking 2%.
A July Zogby survey showed Obama leading by 46-36.
McClatchy Newspapers reports Obama has lost ground among some of his strongest bases of support, including young people, women, Democrats and independents, even African-Americans and Hispanics:
-Among voters aged 18-29, Obama lost 16 percent and McCain gained 20. Obama still leads, 49-38;
-Among women, McCain gained 10 percentage points. Obama now leads 43-38;
-Among independents, Obama lost an 11 point lead. They’re now tied;
-Among Democrats, Obama’s support dropped from 83 percent to 74 percent;
-Among Catholics, Obama lost the 11 point lead he had in July and now trails McCain by 15.
Zogby said Obama also lost ground among minorities.
The poll was conducted July 31-Aug 1 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent.

This is what we are facing with Obama.
Letter to the Editor from a Cuban . . .
A most interesting and foreboding letter.
From Richmond Times-Dispatch, Monday, July 7, 2008 ~
Dear Editor, Times-Dispatch:
‘Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day, and on July 4 I celebrate America’s. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.
‘On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba, and a few months later, I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.
‘I’ve thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.
‘When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said, ‘Praise the Lord.’ And when the young leader said, ‘I will be for change and I’ll bring you change,’ everyone yelled, ‘Viva Fidel!’
‘But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner’s guns went silent, the people’s guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education, it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented, Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over, more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I’m back to the beginning of my story.
‘Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America ?
‘Would we?’

Obama ‘stooped to dishonesty’ with new ad POSTED August 4, 5:40 PM
Now that he is losing the energy issue to Senator McCain, Obama launched a negative and misleading ad attacking McCain. FactCheck calls Obama’s “Pocket” ad misleading:
In a new ad, Obama says, “I don’t take money from oil companies.” Technically, that’s true, since a law that has been on the books for more than a century prohibits corporations from giving money directly to any federal candidate. But that doesn’t distinguish Obama from his rivals in the race. We find the statement misleading:
Obama has accepted more than $213,000 from individuals who work for companies in the oil and gas industry and their spouses. Two of Obama’s bundlers are top executives at oil companies and are listed on his Web site as raising between $50,000 and $100,000 for the presidential hopeful.
This morning on CNN, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney said he was disappointed that the Democrats’ presumptuous nominee decided to approve the ad:
“That’s really sad,” Romney said. “I didn’t know that Obama had stooped to dishonesty.”

Timbo…You say McCaine makes you sleepy with his crap policies. Obama has no policies. He changes any plan he ever suggests on a daily basis. If you take a nap his plan will change. This is the kind of change he is talking about. He will change what he says to whatever you want to hear. What a guy!

Timbo…Don’t you ever wonder how Obama gets all those donations?

M Johnson…aging generation resorting to simplistic slogan? Do you mean like “Yes we can? Or maybe you mean Candidate of “change”. That is simple. But, that’s Obama’s SLOGANS. I guess he can’t come up with facts and figures. He copied a lot of Hillary’s and now he copies a lot of McCain’s. I guess he’s aging early in life.

To all of those that say we won’t realize any oil for years if we drill, if we never start drilling until the gas is 10 or 20 dollars a gallon then you’ll say the same thing? That is ridiculous. We must start now! To wait is stupid. These other countries at time will bring us to our knees for all. Get with the program. We need to do all we can. I live in Florida and I am for it!

Sorry I meant oil, not all.

The Democratic political machine of Chicago headed by Obama and Howard Dean will be full of these kind of lies. When Obama is confronted he will apologize and say he didn’t know anything about it. Right.

Obama will turn the United States into what is Detroit today if he becomes the President. Do you really think someone like Obama came from the South of Chicago can lead the country? Just look at the mess of Detroit now!
B. Hussain Obama will say and do anything to get elected if you take a close look what he said and did during last few weeks! John Kerry paled terribly compared with Obama!

The American Automobile Association (AAA) says that for every pound of pressure your tires are under-inflated, you lose 2% of mileage on your car….And the United States Department of Transportation states that approximately 25% of all commuters are driving a few pounds short of full pressure. Do the math.
Anyone arguing against these facts IS truly “ignorant”. No wonder this country’s economy is in the condition it’s in. People can’t even see the truth when it’s staring them in their ignorant faces.

Best line of the campaign thus far had to Obama’s response to McCain’s sophomoric tire gauge stunt:
“It’s like these guys take pride in being ignorant.”

The accident at Fermi 1 in the 1960s did
NOT “almost destroy Detroit”. A total
of 4 fuel assemblies were partially
melted and ALL radioactivity was
contained. Some idiot named his book
“We almost lost Detroit”. It was a
VERY POOR / VERY FLAWED account of what
was essentially a non-event.
Don’t turn what was essentially a work
of fiction into a basis for energy policy.

What should be done with nuclear waste is
what the French, British, Japanese, and
the Swedes do – reprocess / recycle the
spent fuel. If you do that the LONGEST
lived radioisotope is Cesium-137 with a
30 year half-life. No more thousand
year half-lives if you recycle – those
isotopes are burned as fuel.
You don’t see the French, British,
Japanese, or Swedes digging out a
mountain – because they don’t need to.

For all those that are “upset” about the
“leaks” of radioactivity from nuclear
plants – COAL plants put MORE radioactivity
into the environment as a part of NORMAL
operation – about 14,000 TONS EACH YEAR.
From scientists at Oak Ridge National Lab:
http://www.ornl.gov/info/ornlreview/rev26-34/text/colmain.html
Coal puts out WAY MORE radioactivity than even these nuclear “leaks” – and
they do it in NORMAL operation.
