Obama and Running Mate To Hold Joint Event Saturday

Senator Barack Obama, D-Illinois, and his yet-to-be chosen Vice Presidential running mate will hold an event at the symbolic old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois – the site where Obama kicked off his own presidential run eighteen months ago.

“This will be the kickoff to our trip to the convention,” Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki says of the midday event.

The event Saturday will be the first of a tour Obama and his VP will take through swing states, leading up to the Democratic National Convention in Denver next week.

On February 10, 2007 Obama officially threw his hat into the ring on the steps of the Old State Capitol. Saturday’s appearance at the same site may be the first public event the Obama ticket makes together.

The Obama campaign plans to inform supporters of their VP pick first via email and text message.

Will Rev. Wright be sequestered in the basement to give the ticket his private blessing prior to their campaign launch?

ABC, you guys are awesome most of the time, but you must fix your headlines.
“Join Event” ? What’s that?

Phony to his bone.

I think Keith Olbermann would add some life to the ticket and be a real surprise. The netroots would love the pick and he would have no problem being an attack dog against McCain and his yet to be named running mate.

“Join” event, where they try to persuade more yahoos to join their cult-like movement

olbermann would make a good yes-man for obama

I could care less as long as it’s not Clinton, I do not want her to go down with this sinking ship. Let him sink on his own, because he will.

forgive Senator Clinton’s supporters for our support for her because we are only acting for the best interests of our children

chris – Huh? A join event with Obama and Clinton would be interesting I suppose.

Any candidate Obama picks with the exception of Kaine would be more experienced and overshawdow him. I say Obama/Kilpatrick/Edwards 08. One could be an alternate whilst the other was in the dog house.

I predict Joe Biden or Tim Kaine!

Posted by: KYJurisDoctor | August 19, 2008, 5:59 pm 5:59 pm

It’s becoming clear that Barry Ohbama
is a one-dimensional candidate. The
dems scream “YEAH, but he’s OUR one-
dimensional candidate!!!” You put
him out there…it’s only fair that
you drag him across the finish line.
He’s having trouble standing on his own two feet.

Leon, mature and sensible people don’t read headlines about Obama. You need to go to the McCain blog sites.

A joint event? Didn’t those go out with bongs and dayglo elvis?

Posted by: len | August 19, 2008, 6:05 pm 6:05 pm

That headline just tickled me…Joint Event
That would be more fitting to a McCain …get it… hip replacement.

“Where have all the mature and sensible comments gone?”
Old girls picked them everyone. When will they ever learn?
“Are there any intelligent and mature adults left in America?”
Nope. They’re all right. So are their kids.
“Or is that only the worst of the worst leave comments?”
See what No Child Left Behind got you.
“All I see here is silly sarcasm and pure hatred.”
No, this is still the Silly Season. The Pure Hatred Season starts after Labor Day. Remember the rule about your whites.
“Is this what people on the Right have become? Or were they always like this?”
No. They adapted right after the Lennon Sisters became great-grandmothers and accordions became trendy.

They were always like that Catleya. They seem to have become even more obnoxious this year though. Guess they’re running scared.

Obama & Camp can pump it, hype it, bang it, till all the kool-aid is gone, no matter WHO(M) his choice is, he has lost the general election already.

Who Cares who obama picks as VP – he is NOT qualified and will NEVER be elected.
OBama is a FRAUD!

The event on Saturday will be the “the first of a tour Obama and his VP will take through swing states, leading up to the Democratic National Convention”????
The event is on Saturday. The convention begins on Monday. That’s a pretty short tour, isn’t it?

isn’t it funny how easy it is to tear down a candidate? Does anyone here have any answers or solutions? Anyone who votes out of spite for whatever reason is a disgrace and you should grow up.

If Obama pick Joe Biden, he will stand a good chance of winning. Biden has the gravitas needed to swing the working class and the females.
His personal story, his foreign policy creds and his charming personality … sexy and likeable, traits that translate well on TeeVee and airwaves.
Let ti be, let it be…

Biden a two-time loser. boring, pompous and gaffe prone. Perhaps it will be Evan Bayh since Indiana has now swung to MCCain’s column in Obama’s electoral meltdown. Probably not since the Obama people leaked Bayh has wife ethic problems.

I am a solid Obama guy.
Washington Delegate… (first round)
I am convinced Obama needs Clinton to make the ticket a solid win.
The others are 2nd rank. She is 1st rank in Washington politics.

Other than Hillary who else would really be all that exciting? I am sure he will pick someone capable.

Posted by: rafraf | August 19, 2008, 8:57 pm 8:57 pm

I TOO, AM A HILLARY SUPPORTER, AND OBAMA WILL NOT BE PICKING HER AS HIS RUNNING MATE. Therefore, I will be comletely behind Senator McCain (although I so detest Obama as Pres, even Hillary couldn’t seal the deal for me now….had she been #1 and he #2, maybe).
HILLARY SUPPORTER FOR McCAIN!
By the way….what’s with all the suspense, texting who it is…typical Hollywood production by BO campaign. They could parachute out of a plane holding hands together and I still wouldn’t tune in for it. Obama and whoever (except Biden) = a losing ticket.

Karl Rove just said Obama should pick Hillary as VP because we all know she could be President in a heartbeat, but Obama won’t pick her.

Posted by: Debra | August 19, 2008, 9:05 pm 9:05 pm

-If the Democratic delegates can’t buck the “leadership”‘s fixed “post-partisan” nomination, SOON you will hear the REAL dems debating how to bring about a fusion ticket among Nader, McKinney, and Barr.-
don’t think that’s the ans., if i remember polisci 101 correctly, fusion not allowed in most states.

Can Nobama win this if 20% of Hillary supporters (almost 4 million) don’t vote for him? I heard today on news, that 20% of Hill supporters still not on board…they are hoping it will change after convention (won’t).
I guess it depends if they sit it out or pull the lever for McCain.
HILLARY SUPPORTER FOR McCAIN!

Obama needs a strong economic populist. Thats what this election is all about. Someone who will hit the GOP hard and relentlessly on the economy.

Posted by: Mike | August 19, 2008, 9:34 pm 9:34 pm

Hillary supporter here. Could never go for Obama bin Biden. Will vote for McCain.

Posted by: RL in Illinois | August 20, 2008, 12:16 am 12:16 am

Debra, I heard Rove say that too and about fell of my chair. Even he admits that Hillary is “ready to lead on Day One”.
Someone needs to remind the SuperDs that Obama hasn’t won anything yet. He was carried over the finished line by the ENDORSEMENTS of SuperDs – which means nothing until they actually cast their votes at the convention.

Posted by: marylou | August 20, 2008, 10:42 am 10:42 am

why would anyone who supported hillary, vote for mccain? they are not even close on the issues.

To all those that think that Obama is a ‘fraud’ I have one thing to say: thats no way to talk about YOUR next president. Oh and by-the-way, he’s really sinking in the polls and in campaign funds.huh??? Get a life people and watch history be made!!!!!

Posted by: Renae | August 20, 2008, 4:58 pm 4:58 pm

I think it has to be McCain for me this time. The choice of Biden confirmed what I suspected about Obama, that he’s an opportunistic lightweight and his “change” campaign is all sugar and empty calories. Our choice is now between John McCain and Barack McPresident. As to social issues, I agree with many liberal points, but the liberal package deal is unacceptable and apparently not negotiable, and I don’t like being bullied by drug-addled hippies or Black Panthers, even though I’m gay myself. So, GOP it is. Did you follow all of that?
