Obama Disagrees With Nevadan Assailing McCain’s Vietnam Service
RENO, NEV. – At a town hall meeting at Wooster High School just now, a questioner whom Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., had called on, assailed the Vietnam service of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
"He was the fattest prisoner that got off the plane!" said the man. "He doesn’t want to talk about how he turned in all those names."
With some impatience in his voice, Obama interrupted the man to ask if he had a question, and after the man offered a couple queries, Obama said, "Respectfully, I’m going to disagree with you when it comes to McCain and his service. I think his policies are terrible, I think his service was honorable."
The crowd applauded.
The moment stood in stark contrast with a moment in the 2004 election, when a town hall questioner told President George W. Bush about his then-opponent, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., "’We got a candidate for president out here with two self-inflicted scratches, and I take that as an insult.’"
"Well, I appreciate that, thank you," said Bush, who himself did not serve in Vietnam.

Well, Obama may have made a good PR move by not trying to trash McCain’s service to this country.
That move is appropriate as Obama has no military service to compare to.
But, people need to stay focused on what Obama and the Democrat majority have accomplished during their short time in power.
As a good example, consider the average price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States in 2006 compared to right now.
And, what has Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Dean and the rest of the Democrat leaders done?
The best they can come up with is to suggest that we make sure our tires are properly inflated…

Vanessa, let us make a difference between people and their policies. McSame has sevred during the Vietnam war, an other very wrong war, but he was respectful to his Commander-in-Chief, so for that reason, he is OK, but his policies which he wants to use to get elected as president are horrible and terrible and should not be welcome in America. That is where the fight between him and Obama is.

Bill Clinton refused to open up the areas to drilling that we are considering doing so today.
Had Clinton followed the general Republican ilne, those oil resources would be coming on line today. Hence greater supply, lower gas prices.

It seems that the left is still stuck on Vietnam. Why not ask the candidate on issues that are going on in Iraq, Georgia/Russia, Israel/Palestine, India/Pakistan/Afgahnistan? There are so many MORE important things to talk about. If I got the chance to ask either candidate a question, THAT would not be in my top 50! High prices of gas, value of the dollar, nuclear power, coal and other energy scources, lower income taxes, lower corporate taxes to bring more jobs back to the U.S. What was that questioner thinking?
McCain talks more about his Senate record, that about his POW experience. He talks about crossing the isle to get things done, while Obama hasn’t yet!

Context, context, context! Obama was speaking about the old Soviet Union, which had thousands of ICBM’s pointed at American cities, and the current threat of Iran. In this sense, Iran is a miniscule threat. I hope you’d agree.
Now, Obama has gone on to say, since the Soviet Union no longer exists, that Iran poses a grave threat to the U.S. due to its nuclear ambitions.
There’s no contradiction here.

Obama defending McCain? What a surprise. Maybe if Obama had put a stop to the sexist insults and racist attacks on the Clintons by his campaign and goon supporters on TV, he would be ahead by 15 points. Instead, McCain came out and defended Hillary and President Clinton.
Now Obama has to accept Affirmative Action from the Clintons to win the nomination at the convention.

McCain’s political achievements are few. Large portions of McCain/Feingold have been shot down as unconstitutional, and McCain/Kennedy won’t pass since McCain himself won’t support his own bill. He was for it before he was against it.
Now, being a POW doesn’t make one qualified to run the country. We’ve had 43 Presidents, and not one was a POW. It makes him a hero, and he deserves our respect. It doesn’t mean he deserves our vote.

Those who think age does not matter are just ignorant of the facts. The Presidency is a very demanding job and that person will need to have lots of energy to do it well. There is a GOOD reason why pilots have to retire at age 60. mc-more-war has already had too many senior-moments to handle the job well, plus he can’t even use a computer. Jeremy,
Thanks for the clarification. Regarding point two, I will just have to say that Obama has served his country in a different way than McCain. McCain’s service was honorable, and he deserves our respect for the anguish he suffered during his years of captivity.
Obama, on the other hand, went to the south side of Chicago after graduation, and helped organize churches and unemployed workers, to obtain assistance in finding jobs, etc. Now, admittedly this isn’t as glitzy as serving in a war, but it is STILL service to our country. Just a different kind of service.

If John McCain was never shot down, he never would have set foot in ‘Nam. The only thing he knows of war is bombing from 30,000 ft. I feel sorry for the guy being tortured but most in the military do not consider P.O.W.’s heros. The heros are dead. I commend his service but hero, no. And, read his book. He sang.

I just don’t see how Sen. McSame being shoot down makes him a war hero. I have served in this recent war and have received all kinds of medals also. I don’t consider myself a war hero just doing my job that I signed up for. The objective is not to get capture. If unfortunate if you are but that doesn’t make you a hero if you make it back. If it did we would have many soldiers trying to gain a medal that way. As me and many of my fellow veterans watch the media try to link one mans service to his country as the experience to be president, must mean that every veteran that went to this is ready to lead our contry.
P.S.
Our mission was to go to Afghanistan, we still don’t know how we arrived into Iraqi. Guess we do like a good soldier and just follw orders from our War Hungry President.

Interesting that Obama made the comment at Saddleback that he would not have nominated Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court because Thomas did not have enough experience for such a high level position. The college professor was stumbling and stuttering last night. Too many aahs… I guess that makes he more qualified.
Being a Harvard graduate is not a qualification either… Not all college graduates are leaders….
McCain 2008!!!
—————————————
John McCain’s service, including his years as a POW, was honorable as far as we know. Since his military records release was heavily redacted, it’s hard to say otherwise. And until hard evidence comes to light this is really a moot issue.
However, it does not qualify him to be president. Similarly, while he has shown some “maverick” tendencies in the Senate, his record over the last four years has been entirely the opposite, agreeing with the failed Bush/Cheney administration more than 95% of the time — though I did notice he threw Bush under the bus during one response at Saddleback!
The bottom line is — do we want four more years of Bush/Cheney, and a President who can so blithely answer tough ethical questions with the Repugnant’s party line, as McShame did last night?
NO!!!!

McCain was shot down on his 23rd mission over Viet’Nam. He was not stationed in Viet’Nam, he flew those missions from a carrier. Most pilots flew 2, 3, and sometimes 4 missions a day over Viet’Nam. al4mcattack,
That’s my problem with McCain. I admire him and his family for their military services but what’s beyond that. Does he [McCain] have a solid plan to jump start our economy back to a surplus? How to fix our health care system? Ways to improve education? Ideas beyond drilling to accomplish energy independence?
There’s more to the United States problems then our foreign policy. What about our domestic issues.
When I think of a McCain administration I think of a war with Iran, Afganistan, Iraq, and a possible cold war with Russia. We can’t afford that.
We can’t afford another president who rushes to judgement. McCain’s response to the Russian invasion of Georgia was very revealing. Condemning Russia’s actions was appropriate but then to throw around accusations especially towards a nation you need to get to Iran was very unpresidential.

Rick Warren had it right last night and Obama has been saying it all along…we HAVE to learn to disagree without being disagreeable. Obama not only believes that, he walks the talk.
The Reps and, sadly the once honorable McCain, have taken dumbing down and fear mongering our politics to a newer and lower level.

You mean, the same “experience” that leads a freshman Congressman into bilking American taxpayers out of million, with a bungled savings and loan scandal? Well, there was a fershman Congreddman that did that…McCain. Washington “experience” to block bill after bil after bill, for equal pay for women and minoriies? McCain has that experience. Washington “experience” that sucks up to lobbyist in all corners of industry in this country? Yes, I’d say McCain has more “experience”. But, it’s all RELATIVE!!!

But not quite as helpful as U.S. Congressional experience. But imagine this….can a person honestly say they can repair diesel engines just because they know how to repair a lawnmower? They are both engines, but far different engines. Yes Washington has its problems, but believing that one man with little experience will be able to get over 500 other people to suddenly bow to his will is unimaginable. And electing him simply because we want to give someone “New” a chance is crazy. Even in the best of circumstances, it is crazy. He has to know what it takes to get things done….and he hasn’t proven that yet.

RealDemocrat,
“Wet Start” McCain jettisoned bombs from his aircraft, in order to start his airplane and save his own butt, while the Forrestal was already on fire. He should have read his NATOPS manual, and followed procedures. Those are facts!!! McCain did not start the Forrestal fire, but he contributed mightily to the death of 134 Sailors, and thousands injured.

This was obviously a plant. Obama is as corrupt a politician as any other. As for McCain “singing”, that’s the most idiotic point ever. Torture works. Given sufficient time and effort, it _always_ works. If you knew the codes to the US missile system and Al Qeada had you captive, I promise you they would have those codes within a week.
Posted by: johnny2tones | August 17, 2008, 4:58 pm 4:58 pm
Who are those of you who question McCain’s war record? It is unbelievable that anyone would think it wouldn’t come up a few times. Have any of you even been a prisoner? Been tortured? Then shut up and give us a break….. It is only natural that those memories are a big part of McCain’s thinking. Obama didn’t hestitate to remind us he was opposed to the war (how convenient that he could fit that into the questions). Of course, Obama is determinded to build a military presence in Afghanistan. Obama isn’t against the war, he just wants to pick the location. He has no integrity.

Smearing someone’s miltary service to the country is the lowest form of political hatchet job. Alabama National Guard “pilot” Bush and “6 deferment” Cheney made it an art form under the sick “wizardry” of Karl Rove. Has our country fallen so low that we penalize those who fight to defend her? A McCain, Kerry, Cleland or Murtha can be raked over the coals for putting their lives on the line for us?? Are we that sick as a society?

John McCain is a phony. The guy was a terrible pilot and he sold out the U.S. to the Vietnamese. There is evidence to support this.

In 2000 America thought bush would be a better president than McCain. A vote for McCain means a vote for a weaker, poorer and worse America.
Can you imagine we are now borrowing money from communist China? Lets reason up America and vote Obama.

McCain-Feingold…violated it!!!

McCain-Liebermann…the bomb here, bomb now, Iran bill!!!

are you kidding me. Obama has been right on Iraq from day one and McCain has been wrong.
McCain wants to stay in Iraq for hundred years but Obama has called for a 16 month time table. The Iraqi prime minister supports the timetable and now the Bush administration is negotiating a `timeline` for withdrawal. Once again McCain got it wrong.
Bush is now supporting Obama`s diplomatic talks with Iran which McCain has always opposed. Bush sent 2 whitehouse diplomats to Tehran last month.
Question. Where is McCain`s so called foreign policy experience?

Any possible way a member of the MSM can bash the President, he’ll find it. And, to make it a really nifty trick, he’ll praise the democratic candidate at the same time. Brilliant biased work. Maybe the basis to ask Obama why he never served his country the way McCain did?
Why, gAH-ah-olly, I guess I’ll just take that bait and stupidly vote for Obama. Once again, how about ONE SINGLE POST on something Obama has actually done, one piece of legislation he proposed and (if there is any) had passed. You’d think we might have a chance to learn as much from the media with less than three months to go until the election!

Obama had to defend McCain, otherwise, Obama’s lack of military experience and service would have stood out. McCain is an American Hero. He served our country well and came back a disabled veteran who was tortured for 5 1/2 yrs. He could have been released after 2 yrs but demanded that his friends also be released. Because of his refusal he was put in solitary confinement and tortured another 3 yrs. You can disagee with McCain’s positions and policies, but not his service and dedication to his country!

Obama doesn’t want to touch what might be a very nasty story.
Not only is McCain’s Christmas cross story being questioned a bit more deeply, but the question about why he has consistently stonewalled opening up POW records is resurfacing again. And unfortunately, it’s not the left that is raising this issue…it’s veterans, wives of POWs and retired military.

If these are the followers in denial that are rah, rah about Obama, heaven help the Am. electorate. From the few clips that I’ve seen of McCain getting off the plane he looked emaciated, hunched at the shoulders, pale, unsteady and going grey. What a piece of ungrateful human detritus; planted perhaps to show Obama in a positive light?
If the Obama followers and his camp don’t want a massive backlash, they best leave McCain’s military service off limits.

Jayhawk and the rest of you Mcain apologists listen up cuz im saying this only once… Obama is taking the high road when it comes to Mcain. people in the Military are giving more money to Obama 6-1 why is that?? Tell you conservative retards,, “Though shall not covet thy neighbors wife” (From God sometime in 2000BC) Mcain committed the ultimate sin in cheating on his wife for a woman who was prettier and had more money. If that’s not a qualification for president i dont know what is. Mcain is going to get swiftboated on this issue. He tried to gloss over it last nite and the good Reverand let him get away with it. Its a sin and no one ever asked Mcain if he asked god for forgiveness. He divorced his wife because she was damaged in a car accident?? What a guy and what a future president…. If Mcain is elected president the next 4 years will be war, wars and more wars folks. In Georgia, Russia, Iraq and who knows where else. Mcain cares more about other countries democracies than our own. His slogan should be “Other Countries First” not Country First..I am tired of writing now and if you elect him mcain that is I pray to god that i am wrong but if i am right then God help us all. And all those who continue to get duped into voting against your best interest you get what you pay for or vote for…

What has the Republicans done for this Country? NOTHING! What has McCain done for this Country? NOTHING! He’s a troll of a man. His brain is as cluttered as his office. He has refused to vote on any of the energy bills that have been introduced in the Senate. He has missed on voting eight times on the veteran bills that has been introduced in the Senate. He’s the number one Senator that has missed the most in the Senate among the candidates. In the thirty-five years that McCain has been in office; what major influence or bills has he introduce or passed in the Senate that has brought positive change in any American lives or improve any American lives? NADA! He’s a fraud. Pretending that he is for the average Joe. Yea right. He wears five hundred dollar shoes, has eight houses, his pill-popping wife jet’s him around in her private jet. He has lots and lot’s of money and collects Social Security, and wants to revamp the Social Security for others. Apparently he’s enjoying and participating in the system collecting that measly little bit of money. He has no qualms, nor any principals. He’s a loser and an old man without a brain.

Most Vietnam vets know that not only what many of them did was wrong, but that the war itself was wrong. Not enough vets are brave enough like McCain to point that out.

George Bush was elected as governor by the people of the state of Texas. Texas is a republican state, no one bought Bush his governership. That said, when he was running for president, the media was relentless about his past. The problem with Obama is no one is allowed to mention Obama’s flaws and the media is so in love with him people are not getting the facts about him. Frankly, McCain is closer to being a democrat than a republican but I’m voting for the lesser of the two evils. Obama’s radical associations with shady characters, his racist church, serving only 143 days in Senate, and his liberal positions are very scary. Obama wants to raise taxes, make abortion legal at any stage in a pregnacy, and his statement about wishing the gas prices would go up even more are not what America needs right now. Congress has a 9% approval rating right now and it is due to Obama’s friends Pelosi, Reid, etc.. He shares the same sentiments as they do. Democrats are not the party of yesterday, they are becoming more socialist in their positions. There is nothing wrong with change as long as it is a good change. Obama’s book “Audacity if Hope” ‘I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.’ Does that sound like “good” change?

McCain’s answers are simplistic and memorized. Obama is an intellectual, who realizes the complexity of issues. His answers to questions are thoughtful, if not always succinct, and his positions have depth. It’s why people with higher education overwhelmingly support Obama. Obviously his depth doesn’t always come across well to the simple minded masses in this American sound bite culture.

I don’t know why the McCain campaign is so worked up about Andrea MitChell reporting that McCain wasn’t in the CONE OF SILENCE During Obama’s interview. It’s true and they tried to cover it up. Not only that, but McCain even made a joke that he had his head next to the wall to see if he could hear anything. McCain is such an idiot that he himself asked Rick Warren ” When are you going to ask me the question about the Supreme Court Judges ? . So now they are trying to pretend” How dare you question John McCain’s integrity…. Well Senator…. you were just too quick to answer those questions before they were even asked. I really hope that this gets splashed all over the media in the next couple of days. McCain cheated and he got caught. Taking a page form Bush…. now the cover up.

The Obama camp is paranoid. They are having day dreams of losing are are concocting conspiracies theories to explain McCain’s victory.
Obama has no energy policy, no knowledge of economics, no knowledge of energy resources, no foreign policy, but plans for increased taxes and a burning desire to remove US troops from Iraq and send them to Afghanistan.
Obama is not offering peace. He is offering a war with a change in location in Afghanistan. Obama also is offering continued dependence on foreign oil while we wait for the imaginary alternative energy sources.
Obama is a failed politician who never improved the lives of Chicago citizens when he represented them. He is an empty $3000 suit who can deliver a rehearsed script.

Most cars today have a 100,000 mile tune up schedule. They also have tire inflation monitors.
“Proper” tire pressure may make a 1% improvement in gas mileage. It would equal the oil and gas production from offshore and oil shale after about 11,000 years.
Learn some science before you blurt out trash about energy and energy saving advice.

Hey Vanessa,
Obama has his surrogates do his dirty work and then Obama can repeat the smears while he chastises his thugs.
That is the Obama clean campaign style.
Obama sits back and takes “the high road” while his flunkies like Gen Wesley Clark do Obama’s heavy lifting. Obama knows how to USE people for his benefit.

What the Swiftboater was probably trying to get at is why has Senator McCAin consistently stonewalled efforts by POW families to have records opened up.
In some cases McCain has been downright surly and hostile toward the families.
The underlying elephant in the room being that McCain did something he didn’t cop to as a POW and he doesn’t want that information released.
THAT’s the elephant in the room that Obama doesn’t and won’t touch…for obvious reasons.

Obama makes a misleading statement about taxes and claims income tax cuts don’t go to the middle class and the poor.
Know this folks Obama is playing loose with the truth.
More than 50 percent of wage earners do not PAY income taxes. This means that the POOR don’t pay income tax. That is why they don’t get an income tax cut.

Obama will lose the election only because evil never dies. The Republicans are going to win, they will get away with it and we will be at war with half the planet, and our economy will just get worse every day, and it’s all because of prejudice. Fear defeats Honesty, we cannot have a good president, we deserve Bush, we deserve McCain, we deserve who we vote for.
Jocko is right on the money except that the American people did not vote for Bush in either 2000 or 2004. Both of those elections were stolen. However the American people are to blame for allowing him to remain in office. Although there have been millions of us in the streets protesting against his illegal administration, there have not been nearly enough. We could have gotten him out of office if we had had the intensive nationwide protests that this coup d’etat deserved.

Democrats need to get serious and start nominating candidates that can win back the White House. Did you really think Obama could win? Do you also think that elephants can fly?

This just shows that Obama has a lot more class than McCain. I seriously doubt McCain would have reacted similarly – in fact, we’ve seen him take the low road numerous times. All this after a vow to run a clean campaign. You can’t count on mccain keeping his word because he can’t remember what he says from day to day.

Democratic voter registration is up in every state in the union, that means numbers, voters who were silent & didn’t feel their voted really counted. many people have kicked themselves in the rear for allowing the last 8 years under a Republican, people are motivated and will elect Obama because of his depth of the issues and the solutions needed, Come November i can start looking for healthcare for me and my family and for every other citizen also. Change that is going to happen!

Your SUV Landrover or Lincoln may have all those devices…But my little Escort does not. I keep it tuned up and my tires properly inflated to get my 38 miles per gallon on the highway…it’s a 5 speed too !!!

Obama is a very smart man and he knows that attaching McCain’s military service in anyway will hurt Obama. Remember, the swiftboats attached Kerry because Kerry attached is fellow serviceman calling them murders and liars. There is comparison between McCain and Kerry whether you like McCain or not.

Even Mr. Teleprompter Obama can think on his feet enough to know that even the slightest hint that Obama does not honor McCains service would be the last nail in the coffin for Obama. As it is, I really tried to look at the Faith Forum on Sat night with an open mind but I really think Obama did not do well. List his wife and typical white granny as 2 of the 3 people who he would seek advice from? Clarence Thomas not smart enough at the time to be a Supreme Court Judge?(paraphrasing sorry).
Boy Obama can pander with the best of them. I really don’t think he can handle the job of President.

To Websurfer:
The empty $3000 suit was smart enough to become the Democratice Nomination, and has led McCain in the polls since the primaries. He must be doing something right. And by the way, Psst….in case you didn’t know…he wants to go after Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan, not just change the location of the war

Hey S. Adams:
Obama is a thoughtful man…that should give you a clue of what type of President he will be. All his answers were on point and if he utters umms and errs and come up with good judgement calls ..He is not a Yes and No kind of guy. He ponders his answers and then delivers an on point statement. He does not rush to give his answers because he’s thinking of all the possibilities.

Obama is a passanger poised to ride the wave of negativity the campaign launch. He seldom smear direct himself; for example during the RFK-remark which the Obama-campaign wanted to live over the weekend and the way they did that was to have Obama say “such comments had nothing to do in a campaign”, and the very next day when the Kennedy-son stipulated comment should not be misinterpreted, Obama said “she didn’t mean it, lets move on”. Meanwhile Obama got what he wanted, a weekend of malicious blogs calling Clinon an assassine, murderer etc.
In that case the Obama-campaign did not come out very well, it was too late in the primaries and people recognised the technique. He still does it though. How many times did Obama use the word “confused” about McCain in his Larry King interview, even if Obama says they are not running on ageism, they are – shamelessly.
Hypocricy, we see it; even if Obama does it well it’s way below most people’s pay grade.

All you neo-cons that continue to bash Obama in hopes of changing a person’s mind about him are going to be terribly disappointed come this fall, when he is elected. You can either be part of the process to fix this country or part of the problem.

I wonder how McCain supporters think we are stupid enough to buy into their cooked up stories against Obama. These are flat out lies and nobody`s buying them. Obama does not know the man you are talking about let alone speak to him.

Obama leads in the polls because the media wants him in not for the good of the nation but for some other reason…and even with their bias and flat out lies for Obama, the polls are showing a tie which means that McCain is ahead if history of the polls and what actually occurs in booth continues as it has in the past.

Even Cnn this morning was forced to admit that Obama’s performance was disappointing and NBC has been spreading Obama campaign website spin verbatim claiming that McCain must have known what the questions were before hand (you know Obama usual make excuses and blame someone else when he doesn’t do well.) The “discussion” only proved what many have been saying that Obama can not take McCain even in a debate despite all the hype of him being some sort of supernatural speaker.
I thought his “specficity” comment was telling….you know the one followed up with it is above his pay grade to make a decision. Very pathetic considering that as president of the US, it would be his job to actual make a decision on abortion. It reminded me strongly of all his “present” votes. The guy has no backbone and lacks the ability to stand on an issue without flip flopping around so typically wimps out.

S Adams said “George Bush was elected as governor by the people of the state of Texas. Texas is a republican state, no one bought Bush his governership. That said, when he was running for president, the media was relentless about his past.” Yes, it’s too bad that the majority of the records had been sealed, so the information was not available to be reported to the public.

I am amazed that obama made such a commendable reply to the disrespectful person without the dissection of his 300+ advisers. With that many people trying to digest and provide advice to an issue it is very likely that the issue would have been resolved before the 300 could come up with a solid flip-floppable solution.
Vote confidence, Vote McCain!

Obama dare not speak the truth about McCain: anyone who could be 1/2 of the “McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Law” (which should be an affront to ANY American who believes in Freedom of [Political] Speech) must have been brainwashed in ‘Nam by the Communists; only a left wing loony (like Russ Feingold) would have ever come up with something like that bill. McCain’s cosponsoring of it proves to me that he is no different than the Communists who brainwashed him. And Obama is even MORE left wing than McCain. Welcome to the USSA, Comrade! America has already lost!

Goner, I’ll explain how you can be Pro-Life and “Pro-War”. First, just because someone thinks military action is necessary doesn’t make them “pro-war”. Your characterization betrays your bias. Secondly, were the Allies “pro-war” when they defeated Germany and Japan. How many lives were saved by their actions. Was this not “Pro-Life.” Thirdly, respecting human life begins and ends with how you treat the most defenseless among us. Anyone who can end the life of the most defenseless loses any credibility when protesting military actions on the basis of loss of life.

Once and for all, the “Swift-boating” of John Kerry was effective because it exposed the true John Kerry. He didn’t answer it because he knew it to be true and attempting to answer it would only have exposed him more.

Even after cheating John McCain was still lacking in the answers he gave Warren.
I am amazed that people who consider themselves the religious right can support a man who has stood before God and community on more than one occassion and promised to forsake all other for the rest of his life only to trade his first wife in for a younger and richer model (wife) who has been on drugs and stolen money from her own charity and even steals cookie recipes!! No wonder he offered to enter her in the wet t-shirt competition, this IS HIS MORAL CENTER. I am sure when he becomes president he will sponsor a wet t-shirt contest to find the hottest woman in america. This certainly will solve ALL of our Domestic and Foreign problems.

Cindyct- I appreciate your position, but be careful with your hyperbole. I don’t think “butchers” is a word you want to use in defending abortion. Again, my point is the unborn are defenseless and are completely dependent on their mother’s for their well-being. The mothers do have other options for unwanted pregnancies.

Republicans have a long history of leading the country to support the values of equality and to more prosperous times. Studies have shown that more taxes on the rich ultimately results in less overall tax revenues, due to the rich have fewer dollars to work with in the economy or they work harder to effectively shield their income from taxes. The Dem candidate would raise taxes, and the middle-class and those near retirement age would feel the hurt the most.

Obama is an honorable man, and that is refreshing to see. He refuses to take cheap shots at his opponent. He wants to keep the campaign focused on the issues. Some people just don’t know what to make of it.

It used to be that the Republicans were the party of fiscal conservatism. This has not been true in a long time, but people are still clinging to that idea…………… The truth is that Bush inherited a healthy economy and within 8 years gave us a massive, massive deficit which we will have to repay (it ain’t going away, folks). He launched a wildly expensive and LONG war, and at the same time he turned around to his rich friends (we’re talking extremely rich) and gave them a tax cut……………… INCREASING COSTS AND LOWERING INCOME AT THE SAME TIME IS NOT BEING FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE. The Democrats will do a better job of restoring our economy and bringing it back into line.

John Kerry had many, many fellow vets who came out in support of him. He is a good and decent man who has done a lot to serve his country, whether you agree with his ideas or not. The “swiftboating” was a purely political move that was despicable. The Republicans have lost their moral center and have now adopted these kinds of tactics on a permanent basis.
