People Magazine Snags McCain/Palin First Interview
ABC’s Sara Just reports: The first interview with the Republican ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin went to People Magazine, which today published its interview just hours after the surprise announcement was made. People also snagged the first interview earlier this week wtih the Democratic ticketmates, Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
People asked Palin whether she is ready to be only a heartbeat from the presidency, given her limited experience in politics. The 44 year-old Alaskan governor replied, "Absolutely. Yup, yup. Especially with a good team around us.”
Palin talked about her role as only the second woman ever named to a major party ticket, and the potential appeal to voters who supported Democrat Hillary Clinton during the primary race.
"Certainly in this election cycle, women are not finished yet. And women can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all," Palin tells people.
The Republican presumptive nominee, nearly 30 years older than his running mate, added: “I think that Sarah appeals to a lot of voters — I think because of her independence, because of her reform agenda and her record of balancing both family and service, is motivation to not just Clinton voters but to lots of voters.”
The mother of five told People magazine she is still nursing her baby son, Trig, born in April. But she did not think she’d have any trouble balancing her family obligations with the challenges of the campaign or the vice presidency if the Republican ticket prevails in November.
“What I’ve had to do, though, is in the middle of the night, put down the Blackberries and pick up the breast pump. Do a couple of things different and still get it all done,” Palin said of balancing work and family.
Cindy McCain told People magazine she can relate to the multi tasking her husband’s running mate will have to do.
“Any woman who’s been in a situation where they’re working and have children know that you give 300 percent; no one will be slighted in any of this, least of all her baby. She has a lot of energy, she’s a woman with great drive and great vision and I think no one’s going to suffer in this process. We will all get it done."
And Mrs. McCain wasn’t the only female member of the family that gushed about the veep pick. Daughter Meghan, 23, who learned of Palin’s selection today only a few hours before it became public, tells People: "It’s Girl Power! … It’s my dream choice."

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
Of course being governor of Alaska doesn’t conflict with parental duties. The legislature only meets 90 days a year. That’s 275 days a year where a bill has zero chance of landing on her desk.
Also, her previous constituency, when she was Mayor of Wasilla, was smaller than Obama’s State Senate District.
This is naked politicking.

This isn’t my preferred VP pick, but it’s a good pick nonetheless. A young, energetic straight talker with a hard work ethic and strong family values. She launched her career in small town America while Obama launched his in the living room of a domestic terrorist. I can live with that.
The Obama camp has nothing to stand on here. They can’t argue about lack of experience, they can’t argue about international issues because they lack this as well. Thi spick energizes the conservative base and puts the Obama camp on the defensive. Oh I can’t want to hear what Biden says when he’s off prompter.

Why is ABC making a point about McCain’s age in every single report. Are they trying to focus the public on something?
Real subtle.

I wish my legislature only met 90 days a year.
As for a smaller constituency…. maybe it helps you get to know the people better.

Jake, you’re just jealous that MacCain picked a good VP candidate. Someone who’s actually worked toward reform.
Meanwhile Biden’s been in Washington for 35 years, has close ties to the failed credit industry and has surrounded himself with lobbyists (including his son!)
The “Change” ticket managed to look both inexperienced and part of the good ‘ol boys network of Washington at the same time. Hilarious.

Joemama, McSame is older than Coca-Cola, that is the problem, if he wins these elections which is very unlikely, he has all chances to die in office, that is what people are afraid off. Age is a problem for McSame.

So mccain picks another beauty queen with 1.5 yrs of executive experience and she’s ready to be president?
This is a slap in the face to all women, and will shine the light back on race.
Country First?
No way, No how, No McCain

The time has REALLY come for the press to begin to cover what has long been whispered about John McCain. That he is not emotionally suited to be President. His temper and rash actions are well known. And this choice, considering his age and medical history are further evidence of this. Voters have every right to question if Barack Obama is experienced enough to be President. He, however, was chosen as the nominee by voters. Gov. Pallin was chosen by a 72 year old cancer survivor to be the next in line. Show me the sound judgment in that.

Hey PAULY, how will your boy Obama “run the country in case of big crisis with Iran, Russia”, since he doesn’t even have anyone in front of him to wait for!!!
Now THAT’S risky. Your experience argument is silly, and only shows how afraid of Palin you truly are. Sheesh… these libs must be scared to be throwing stones blindly in glass houses the way they are.
Some one struck a nerve. :) Way to go PALIN!

The GOP is missing the point here. Obama doesn’t NEED to attack Palin’s lack of experience (even though her resume is thinner than his own). The very fact that McCain PICKED HER after spending months denigrating Obama’s lack of experience shows POOR JUDGMENT on McCain’s part, undermines all his past arguments against Obama and makes McCain seem like a giant hypocrite.

Obama has EARNED his spot by running for this office, voted onto this slot by the people.
This woman was just selected by the old gray haired dude with both feet on a banana peel.
Senator Obama has been in office longer than Palin, so the attempt at discrediting HIS experience is totally disingenuous.
Palin has a bs degree in journalism.
Obama has a degree in political science with a specialization in international relations, JD magna cum laude from Harvard Law, teaching constitutional law at the Univ of Chicago law school.
I can see how all that becomes equal.
Oh yeah, but we forgot one major factor. This is a major insult.

I am out! This was just to much to take . I do not trust Mc Cain any longer his pick was very selfish, not in the Countries best interest. If I wanted to vote for a woman, Hillary was there. Gender is not the issue never was do you not understand that MC Cain!! Oh you make me so upset. Playing games with our Countries welfare. You pick a female any ole female just so she can get female votes. It does not work that way. We are smarter than you think Mr. Man we do not just vote for gender………. Your not ready either to run this Country. I am finished with this election. It is competence that we look for in a Vice President not just a woman. Its a Horror Show! If she was to be President. McCain says he puts “Country First”. Sarah Palin, his choice fo V.P., shows us what he means by “Putting Country First”? McCain’s shows the judgement of a gambler, the leadership of someone playing Russian Roulette with our Nation’s future. Are we to imagaine he actually believes Sarah Palin, Governor of a state with an total population smaller than San Antonio, Texas, who has less than 1 1/2 years experience on the job, is the best Republican who could serve as V.P. for this country?
Palin, among the host of eminently qualified Republicans is at the top Republican of the list?
This choice comes as such a surpise to everyone – Democrats, Republicans, and Media Pundits alike – because she was not, and is not at the top of any reasonable person’s list of qualified Republicans. No other Republican would place this nation at such risk. McCain is asking us to follow his leadership – we now know what this means – he indents to lead this country right over the edge of the cliff. We don’t need to follow this good soldier on what looks like a suicide mission.

Senator Obama has lost… there is no way he can catch this show!!! Not even close! Senator Clinton supporters are switching over in droves!
Come on! Wasn’t Democrats supposed to be the leader in bringing women on board? What happened? Why didn’t Senator Clinton get picked as a VP? What happened Democrats? The Republicans beat you to the punch?
This will be a landslide win! Just watch! Hey, no women politician has moved me like this one! This is great!!!

==============
Did Obama think of the country’s welfare when he launched his hijacking campaign?
======================================
1. Obama did not hijack any campaign – he won the nomination. More to the point, he has now been tested in the line of intense political fire for two years, under severe scrutiny he has laid out his positions, show his composure, and demonstrated his temperament in multiple debates. Whatever we think of Obama’s politics, whatever we think of the importance of his prior political experience, eveyone now knows his judgement, we know he can think on his feet – We know who he is.
No one, not Republican, not Democrat, not anyone – not even John McCain – noone (except for Alaskans) know who Sarah Palin is. Its not that she is a know nothing – she may or may not be – its that she is an unknown. In these rather terrifying times, her appointment as VP – one heartbeat away from Commander-in-Chief – would INCREASE the national level of insecurity. This is a terrifying choice, and I don’t care what party you belong to.

The party of Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Sam Brownback, Huckabee or (just to mention some leading Republican women) Kay Baily Hutchinson, Olympia Snowe, and Elizabeth Dole.
McCain chooses the Governor of a state that, unlike the rest of the country, is NOT confronted with the energy crisis that is crippling our economy. Sure, she gave around $1,000 in refunds back to the citizens of Alaska – the tax base in Alaska IS the price of oil. The more the price of oil goes up, the more Alaskan citizens benefit. She has experience? This is exactly the WRONG experience the rest of the country needs. The citizens of Ohio, Michigan, Pensylvania do not get windfall tax cuts when the price of oil goes up – the pay higher heating costs.

Senator Barack Obama being selected as the affirmation action candidate at the convention is an insult and tragedy in American politics. Today, with the announcement of Palin as VP and after reading her bio and other essays I am impressed. In her short career she has done more positive things for the Alaskans than Obama has done for Chicargoans. The fact Obama chose not to select Clinton says a lot about his charactor.Obama and Clinton were a sure win, however Obama too wants a genuine break away from the Clinton cronyism and chose Biden. This is one of the most exciting US elections I have seen in recent history and I hope you choose the right couple as the US really has to get away from the Bush/Cheney Cheney/Bush administration.

The Presidency is an Executive Office, not a legislative one. In her two terms as mayor and her 20 months of service as the Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has far more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined. She also, unlike Obama, has a list of several accomplishments in her time as Mayor. Obama can’t run on his accomplishments because he simply does not have any.
I also find it hilarious that Obama supporters here are blasting Palin for her lack of experience and what a danger that could be if she had to step into the Presidency… You guys are supporting Barack Obama, who spinelessly switched his vote over 100 times in the Illinois State Legislator, often votes “Present” on big issues, and has spent exactly 143 days present as a United States Senator – far less than that when he started running for President a year after taking office.
And Obama is on TOP of the ticket, and will have to take office with less experience than Palin, who would almost certainly have her time as VP to train for that office. Also, she DOES have Executive experience already. So experience is a big deal for the VP pick, but not for the President? Are you guys nuts or just hopelessly partisan?

McCain, ‘I think that Sarah appeals to a lot of voters.’ He doesn’t care about who could help him govern or who would be a worthy successor to the presidency, only wooing votes away from women. This is a sad state of affairs. To think that Hillary’s efforts are being so baldly mocked hurts. No way, no how, no McCain.
Posted by: No way. No how. No McCain. | August 29, 2008, 8:18 pm 8:18 pm
Definitely makes sense for Obama “fans” (cuz that’s what they are) to criticize Palin on experience, because 143 working days in the Senate is precisely what made him choose Joe “The Plagiarist” Biden.
I wonder what the Dim party will offer to the electorate if they manage to win this year, in the next election. This election, we’re giving out free Pre-K childcare, free healthcare, and free college. I think the next round of giveaways will include cars, and houses, maybe.

Sorry Mary, but you are delusional. Its funny how experience to YOU was a big deal yesterday, but today its not. So no, we’re not flailing and failing and whining. We are thanking John McCain for his fantastic pick!
You now attempt to again discredit Senator Obama and all his accomplishments and experience. He was voted at the top of the ticket, and I’m sorry you have a problem with that.
McCain knew he was losing and made a desperate pick. So he chooses a women, BECAUSE she’s a woman, hoping that women will vote for her, and he will win on THAT alone. Not on his own merit, not on the issues.
Senator Clinton didn’t slide into position of cracking that ceiling, she worked hard to do it.

Well I am stunned by this choice and don’t know what to think. ON the one hand, her resume is paper thin, BUT I prefer inexperience in the number 2 slot — not first on the ticket. To her credit, she will and already has got the right wing excited and they will work hard to get McCain in. But McCain needs Clinton voters and Indep’s. What Clinton voter would have the same (economic/social)agenda as Palin?? I can’t wait to see her interviewed on policy, see how she manages under intense scrutiny, and debate Biden before making a judgement. McCain’s choice is either brilliant or absolutely mad.
Posted by: disbelief | August 29, 2008, 8:46 pm 8:46 pm
To the Clinton supporter – Governor is a much better training ground for President than Senator. They are both executive offices, where Senator is legislative. This is why it’s been basically exclusively Governors elected President for the last forty years.
And Clinton rode to her position on her husband’s coat-tails. She didn’t ascend to a position of national prominence on her own. Palin become governor of a state ON HER OWN.
Her resume is much “thicker” than Obama’s, who has only spent 143 days present as a Senator and has zero executive experience. Palin has been a two term mayor and now a Governor, and has accomplished things you can actually point to, such as corruption and ethics reform, unlike Obama, who has absolutely no accomplishments to point to. This is why you didn’t hear people talk about Obama’s accomplishments at the convention – he just doesn’t have any!

McCain’s job as Commander-in-Chief would be to choose the most qualified people for his staff. He has chosen Sarah Paley.
Is Sarah Paley the most qualified REPUBLICAN for the job of V.P.? What does this, his first, most important choice tell us about his judgement?
He wants us to vote for him, to trust him as a leader – but as we now know, he made this decision last week after only having met her ONE TIME!
Not only do we know nothing about her, but not even McCain knows anything abouto her! This is an example of the kind of decision making we can expect from a President McCain?

Yes, she needs to become a community organizer, do some cocain, (how did he get into Harvard when he was on drugs at columbia, from his own book?) go to a black liberation church, help rezco and ayers 8 years in the state senate and run for US senate win and immediatly run for president…

Just for the record – Palin has been under investigation for misuse of her position and power, has cut funding to important programs, and has implemented ideas that may or may not be successful. She has not been in office long enough for anyone to know. As a governor, I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt – but as a Vice Presidential nominee!!! – you have got to be kidding!!

How is it possible to balance the enormous needs of a Down Syndrome infant, who must have all sorts of therapy and attention in order to reach his potential, with the demands of a vice-presidential campaign? As the mother of a child who had a special needs baby, it is flabbergasting to me that a woman who makes such a big deal about her “family values” would take that baby on the road with her and act like the biggest issue is 3 a.m. feedings!! Not to mention her other kids’ needs. I know several women who have special needs babies, and ALL of them left their jobs in order to devote themselves to helping their children, who need extra attention and lots of therapy. What sort of attention could Sarah Palin possibly give her baby? It’s not enough to congratulate yourself for having a Down Syndrome baby. Now, it is incumbent on her to do everything she can to help that baby learn, and I for one don’t think it’s possible to do that and be vice-president of the United States. That baby needs her more than we do.

That child needs extra attention from his father and mother. Both of them. And lets face it: we’re not talking about any old job here: we’re talking about the 24-7 campaign for President/Vice-President.
It’s absolutely insane. Think about it.

This woman Palin is greedy and overly ambitious. She’s willing to sacrifice the health of her newborn child, who needs special care beyond even most mothers, in order to fulfill her political ambitions to the White House. She chose to bring a child into the world, why did she have to run for v.p. now? Couldn’t she have waited until her child was old enough to not require 24/7 attention?
Shameful.

They should ask
McCain VP and his rash behavior — Country at Risk
More rash dangerous decisions.
McCain only talked with his VP choice last week. He just does not know her. McCain is willing to make a decision that could impact the country on one conversation!!!
And we all know that McCain still has cancer. He looked death in the eye 2 times. One was just after the 2000 presidential race where he tried to be selected by the GOP presidential candidate. Shortly after he had to have an operation of 5 hours. He gets checked once a month. But there is nothing that can be done if the cancer starts to spread quickly. That means that there is a chance that he will die or be very sick when he is President. This puts his VP choice as the new President. She a smart and clever person, but is is not brilliant and grossly ignorant of the world. There are high school students that know more than she does.

Even Jimmy Carter called him, a “black boy,” not a black man??? I am so excited about Sarah!! She lives like the rest of us middle class moms where husbands help out and support their wives and are active in their children’s lives. Go figure. No wonder the Dems don’t “get” her. Re: Josh’ Aug. 30 post–I think you are right on the money! There is no way one woman (or man) can do all that is before Ms Palin right now. Something has to suffer, has to be let go. That “something” will, undoubtably be the special needs child. I’ve never seen it to fail. All the talk coming from Palin about family, family, family is just that. Talk. I noticed her adult daughter was in charge of the baby while the mother reveled in the spotlight cast on her by the desperate 72 year old man. It looks like mama Palin birthed the baby then handed him off to her daughter to contend with. All of her children are to be pitied to have a mother so self struck and hungry for recognition/stardom. And, one other thing: The women who supported Hillary are smarter than this–they’ll never fall for it. They wanted Hillary in office, not just a person of the female gender. Give them some credit here. And, no I’m not one of them. I am a white Republican female who has supported Obama from the get go. But, if I was a Hillary supporter, this trick of old McCain would be an insult to my intelligence!

An Alaskan Voice is heard on palin and her “Executive Experience”
Note: Barack Obama was a State Senator and is now a Federal Senator who sits on the Foreign Relations Committee alongside Joe Biden, who is his More Experienced senator, liken unto JFK and LBJ, but Palin’s so called “Executive Experience” is a Rush Limbaugh-Sean Hannity …JOKE on the American Populus…
MCCAIN-PALIN WILL…. LOSE
After extensive news coverage about all this nasty behind-the-scenes scandal, which is definitely NOT squeaky clean, Palin’s approval ratings fell to 67%, still high, but a far cry from the 90% number that’s being thrown around so glibly by the Republicans today. Alaskans are quickly becoming disillusioned once again.
“Executive Experience”
Before her meteoric rise to political success as governor, just two short years ago Sarah Palin was the mayor of Wasilla.
I had a good chuckle at MSN.com’s claim that she had been the MAYOR of “Wasilla City”.
It is not a CITY. Just Wasilla.
Wasilla is the heart of the Alaska “Bible belt” and Sarah was raised amongst the tribe that believes creationism should be taught in our public schools, homosexuality is a sin, and life begins at conception.
She’s a gun-toting, hang ‘em high conservative. Remember…this is where her approval ratings come from.
And Republican bloggers are already gushing about how she has ‘more Executive Experience’ than Obama does!
Above is a picture of lovely downtown Wasilla, for those of you unfamiliar with the area. Behind the Mug-Shot Saloon (the first bar I visited when I moved to Alaska long ago) its a little strip mall.
There are street signs in Wasilla with bullet holes in them.
Note: Wasilla has a population of about (5500 People, and 1979 Occupied Housing Units)
This is where your potential Vice President was 2 Short Years Ago.
Can you imagine her negotiating a nuclear non-proliferation treaty?
Discussing foreign policy?
Understanding non-Alaskan issues?

A few things to ponder. McCain barely knows Palin; the country will have a lot of learning to do as well, if the press does its job. Her Wikipedia entry was scrubbed the day before McCain announced her selection; go to the entry and check it out. Up until now, she has denied global warming is a manmade phenomenon; she promotes drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (which McCain, as a longtime senator, has opposed); moreover, her advocacy for that drilling is totally in keeping with Alaskan political bosses like Ted Stevens, and it would benefit Alaskans economically although the refuge is federal land. In my book, she is married to Big Oil, and puts Alaska’s local interested in front of America’s interests in setting and accomplishing the urgent goal of freeing ourselves from our oil addiction. The oil companies don’t want that; they want to sell us every last barrel, and that’s Palin’s policy. For perspective: Her state is large in territory, but small in population. Let’s see, her resume is: a governor with ties to Big Oil? Now, where have I heard that before? Finally, to equate her as a national player on Obama’s level is silly. He has demonstrated leadership abilities through the most grueling primary campaign in history against a Clinton machine, and overcome bigotry to inspire million of Americans. She’s done nothing remotely comparable, and I don’t think her right-wing policies are in the country’s best interests. We have had enough of placing ideology before reality.

Jake, you may be surprised to learn this but governance is more than just signing bills. Being a Governor is a year round job. Of course, if you had anybody on your ticket with any experience at governance… even if it was only a Governor’s wife… you would already know that.
Posted by: ongle | August 30, 2008, 8:44 pm 8:44 pm
Hmm, so Obama’s Legislative experience supersedes Palin’s experience? Being a Senator trumps Being a governor?
Some little known facts people may not know about Obama’s so-called experience:
Obama rarely voted in the Illinois State legislature. If he managed to be there for a vote, he often voted “present,” even if there were no politcal advantages to that vote.
Ask anyone that’s served as a governor AND a senator and they’ll tell you that one month as being governor gives you more experience than a term as senator. Why? Because governors veto things, they pass things. Senators vote on things. Governors are the ultimate in burden and responsibility. Senators just vote party ranks. Obama especially, who voted 99% of the time with fellow democrats– who have a 6% approval rating in Congress. But this is when he showed up. He also has one of the lowest voting records in the senate, AND he spent most of his time campaigning for President than working in the senate. Experience? I think not!
Also, Palin has visited the middle east, as many times as Obama has.
What it boils down to for me is, I’d rather take a #2 with little experience than a guaranteed #1 with little experience.
Posted by: Dan Jando | August 30, 2008, 9:13 pm 9:13 pm
Palin’s ties to big oil: She took them on, and won. She’s not in anyone’s back pocket. Palin’s policy on drilling: identical to over 70% of Americans. Who’s out-of touch? Let’s cut the BS and read the facts.
Obama may be a national player, but he’s a tadpole in an ocean, let’s be honest. The JUNIOR senator- One of nearly 500 members of congress. Palin, the highest person in the state. The governs the largest state in the country. She is the top of the pecking order. Obama’s “national experience” has been spending the majority of time ignoring his elected official position and campaigning the country. That’s responsible. What has he led? What has he run? Apparently, the only thing Obama has run is his mouth, and he’s ON THE TOP of the ticket. That frightens me.

Gov. Palin is tough and shrewd.
She is also the most popular politician in the U.S. and, maybe, on the planet; because she has fought entrenched power and won for the people. Her government is accountable and transparent. These are improvements we would all like to see.

5. Yes, Sarah Palin has proven herself able to lead a state and Obama has not.

The reason Palin scares lots of people is because the thought of her running this country is terrifying. The thought of McCain getting elected after picking her because she is, in his words “his soulmate” is creepy beyond belief.
And let’s be honest. How many moms who have babies with significant disabilities go back to work in 3 days? Let alone go running around the country for months hoping to make that a permanent arrangement? Her level of denial is scary; if this were happening to any regular woman, just had a baby, has a child with a disability, and then her eldest child becomes pregnant, we’d look at her and feel sympathy and say “wow, her life’s falling apart. In time she’ll get it back together, but this is crazy. She needs all the help she can get. Let’s make her some dinners and go babysit.”
And if that same regular woman, say, my neighbor, took on a full time, 18 hour a day on-the-road job, one she didn’t need for economic reasons but one she’d do just to feel powerful, you better believe she’d be judged harshly. That’s reality. And reality is McCain/Palin’s biggest deficit, which is why neither is qualified to hold office.

Let’s say she’s ready, sharp, capable, resourceful and on top of everything… then WHY hasn’t she been interviewed by ANYONE (well except the People interview with McCain – WOW was that hardhitting) since the announcement? Despite all the crap coming down the pike that SHE needs to address personally they won’t let her out. Now, do you really still believe she’s so ‘ready’ if she can’t handle a single interview (even with a carefully chosen sympathetic interviewer) to address and put to rest all these ‘issues’? Let me assure you… the only reason is that she’s not ready. Otherwise the Republicans wouldn’t be just circling the wagons and expecting you all to comment to defend her, they’d put her out and let he explain it all.
My theory, Rove is so pissed over McCain getting the nomination that he’s put another “Bush” (read completely manipulatable) in a position that can result in the White House and then they just wait for McCain to die (if they are that generous) after all, he’s already outlived his dad and granddad by more than 10 years and he’s had cancer several times.

You Palin haters are insane! So what if she has family issues! Everyone in this country has family issues. I don’t see what the big deal is about her baby being on the road with her for this campaign. Even though this baby has special needs for the moment its still A BABY! It has the same needs as all other babies. It’s no different now than any other infant. If the baby gets taken care of then what is the problem exactly? Oh, I know, you democrats just find anything to complain about because you know that she is better than Obama and Biden put together. As for he daughter being pregnant. How many people in this country know someone who has become a teenage mother? I’m sure just about everyone. Plus, they’re getting married and are going to take care of it. I mean, its not like its a crack baby or something. Jesus people, you are ridiculous. And, you are saying that the population of Alaska is small and she was just the governor and its just a state. Well, think about the people who like in Alaska. The majority are men. If a woman can change a state full of men so radically then why can’t she lead our country? I personally believe that she is strong and worthy of being our VP. PALIN POWER!

I think they should also ask Joe Biden if he is ready – He is also a heartbeat away from the Presidency. I don’t see why they focus on McCain’s age. He isn’t the oldest that would be elected. Obama is running against McCain, not Bush or Palin. Against Palin, he would still loose. He sounds ignorant when he is talking “off the cuff”.
I think Palin is an excellent choice. Biden is NOT change. McCain and Palin are, that’s why the Republicans don’t like McCain 100%. I’m not nuts about him either, but he is better than Obama. I am nuts about Palin though, I think she is terrific and he picked her to win the election, just like Obama picked Biden to win the election. Obama needed Biden’s experience to help with his lack of experience. Hillary wasn’t an option because Bill would be running the show and Obama would just be insignificant.

I don’t like the fact that, in every level of office she’s held, there’s evidence that people have been fired or were threatened with it when they didn’t comply with something she wanted. She seems pretty abusive with the limited power she had.
Another thing that bothered me…was that when she read matthew curry’s speech from the teleprompter at the RNC..she said absolutely nothing about the current issues affecting the country, other than a few fallacies.
And…another…I don’t understand how someone can be against big oil, but want to give them more business at the same time. And have a family member working for an oil company. I realize she says she’d tax them and charge royalties, but she also ‘said’ she was for the bridge to nowhere to get the earmark (which she’s against?), but then, when she ran for governor and it was politically necessary to shut the project down, she did so. But kept the money. Does that sound like something new, exciting and different?
Speaking of foreign policy experience…I realize some people will never agree on this, however comma Obama has been correct on the best course of action to take for most issues outside the US in the past year.
Remember when he said he’d bomb part of pakistan where some terrorists were hiding? Musharraf (Bush’s lackey) and the replublicans lambasted him pretty harshly….but what did we end up doing less than two months later?
Other people seem to have trouble differentiating between “talking” and “aquiescing”. Or perhaps that’s just spin…which is also more of the same (foreshadowing?).
Posted by: Phusion | September 10, 2008, 9:07 pm 9:07 pm
I guess what it boils down to is…can the facts of your argument that one person is better than the other stand up without you shifting focus (i.e. shifting from palin’s daughter to everyone else’s daughter), grossly misconstruing statements (making “we don’t want to drill in alaska but we do have 8 alternative proposals on the board and up for vote” sound like “we don’t want to drill at all anywhere ever”, and of course the plethora of ‘unsupported’ facts out there.
For example, did you know…in Matt Curry’s speech (that Palin read at the RNC), she hints Obama had zero ethics reform, yet he’s got (along with Feingold) what’s being called the strongest ethics reform bill out there since watergate.

The only “straight talk” Palin’s done is lie about her credentials and past actions. I’m not trying to smear anyone here, everything discussed in those rallies is public record if you’d bother to look it up instead of just taking her at her word.
And you can quit with the “good ole boy” lines any day now, because when you vote for Palin you’re voting one into our highest office: or have you completely forgotten that McCain has been in Washington politics for the past 26 years in your excitement to see boobies in the white house?
I’d love to see a woman in higher office too… but I think America deserves more than just “the first” woman: we deserve “the best” too, and Palin ain’t even close to being it.

Not only did Palin support Pat Buchanan, who called Hitler a good man, but she also goes to a church that is just as nutty if not more so than Obama’s church. Her church preeches trying to coerce Jews into becoming Christians and believes that the cause for suicide bombings in Israel is the fact that the Jews have not accepted Jesus. I am also appalled by her disdain for the environment. She hunts moose and other endangered species. She also favors destroying the Artic National Wildlife Refuge and was against declaring the polar bear an endangered species. Its like she has something against the poor polar bears. She is also against abortion even in cases of rape and incest, which is ludricrous and inhumane. If she was a man and had the exact same position, she would be called sexist for holding such views. She also wants to force all women who want to abort fetuses that will become babies with down syndrome to carry through on the pregnancy, all the while being against government funding to help take care of all of these down syndrome babies. Most American women don’t have her money and can’t afford to have a child with down syndrome. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. She also has zero experience with the economy and foreign policy, and is responsible for making the public education system in Alaska amongst the worst in the country. She scares me. If it was McCain-Lieberman, I could have supported McCain, but I can’t support a McCain-Palin ticket, I am sorry. As bad as Obama is, Palin makes Obama look good.

Rachel,
I 100% agree with you. I was going to vote McCain when Hillary was out until he picked this ignorant and arrogant Palin.
Even if I can afford, yes, indeed, I can afford a Down’s syndrome kid, I would abort and wouldn’t carry it to term. That’s the whole point of quad screening and diagnostic tests (CVS and amniocentesis). Financially some of women can afford. Emotionally it’s not the case. Leaving alone trisomy 21, trisomies 18 and 13 are more serious. How about other fetus abnormaly, like chromosome insertion and deletion? Lots of families are struggling daily with these babies/young kids. They have to go to specialty doc on a daily basis. Still, after lots of efforts been done, those kids lost their lives in a miserable way.
And we still have other kids who don’t have a home, who are neglected and who are hungry. Our government has no money for them. Our public schools are extremely underfunded. US is still No. 1 in military power. However, even when I visit Cuba, I saw lots of much nicer schools there than what we have here.

It’s all in the view:
Imagine what would happen if Miss Alaska 1984 winner, Maryline Blackburn, a black and beautiful woman, would have been elected as McCain’s VP (just imagine). Imagine if she had given the SAME EXACT answers to Gibson in the infamous interview. Current view is that Palin’s answers were somewhat not fluent and limited (this is debatable). Yet the media and Reb/Dem party has been quite kind to her, in fact. Would this kind judgement be the same for Maryline Blackburn? In fact, Maryline would have had to shoulder her entire race in a harsher view: Bloggers might say: well.. “blacks are limited.. “; Media (Rush L/ Bill O’Rielly) would say… affirmative action got her there.. : “they don’t study.. if they did.. they’d know the Bush Doctrine.. … they just want handouts..” “.. she jumped schools.. look at her with her daughter having a kid.. “those kinds’ will ruin our country.. etc. etc.”
Fact is, if Palin had been Maryline Blackburn– many of you, who support Palin now– would have ripped apart Blackburn’s exact same answers and applauded Gibson for exposing the truth.
** WHY SO? WE INTERNALLY VIEW THOSE WE HAVE A SOFTNESS FOR WITH LEEWAY.**

So, when I picked up this magazine and read this article it is under suspicion that the 17 yr old daughter is the actual mother of the baby with down syndrome, and yet she is pregnant again. And now her Step Mother has decided to vote against her too, and Palin’s friends don’t even trust her. Oh-oh doesn’t sound good.
