Stephanopoulos: Obama VP Announcement Friday Night?

ABC News’ Jennifer Parker reports: As speculation swirls about when Sen. Barack Obama will announce his vice presidential candidate, the conventional wisdom has focused on Saturday because the campaign has planned a large campaign rally that day in Springfield, Illinois.

But what if the Obama campaign announces the vp  — via campaign text and email blast to supporters — on Friday when more people will be sitting at home, watching the Olympics?

Noting all signs point to Saturday, ABC News’ Chief Washington Correspondent George Stephanopoulos said a Friday announcement might have political benefits too.

"Just about every indication that I have, Charlie, from people close to the process, is that they’re going to try to hold this until Saturday," Stephanopoulos told ABC’s Charlie Gibson on World News Thursday night. "To get the word out just a little bit before Barack Obama and the pick show up in Springfield, Illinois."

However, Stephanopoulos said the Obama campaign wants to make sure that all the people who signed up to get the message on their cell phones or blackberries are in a position to receive them — for maximum impact.

"So it could come tomorrow night during the Olympics," Stephanopoulos said, noting that technology experts estimate high usage between 8pm and 10pm on weeknights.

On "Good Morning America" Friday morning, Stephanopoulos also mention two other possible high usage windows: lunch time Friday, or early Saturday morning.

New polls show Republican rival Sen. John McCain is moving ahead and tightening up the race, which could influence Obama’s vp pick.

"If you listen to Barack Obama and the people around him, they certainly seem to be signaling that the choice will be someone who has instantly recognizable national security experience," Stephanopoulos said. "That means Joe Biden. Maybe Evan Bayh. Not Tim Kaine of Virginia. And maybe even the big surprise, you know, someone like Hillary Clinton or Al Gore."

I’m yawning from all this hype. Who cares? Who ever it is, I’m sure BO will flip flop and regret his decision at some point and wish he had picked Hillary.

Posted by: Lisa Again | August 21, 2008, 8:09 pm 8:09 pm

Don’t term limits apply to the position of vice president as well?? And even if they don’t, why would Al Gore even want to be vice president again? It seems like a step down as he has already served two terms as vice president and was himself a presidential candidate not too long ago. I do hope Obama picks Hillary – that would make for an exciting race and might give Obama what he needs to beat McCain.

Posted by: Lil' M | August 21, 2008, 8:09 pm 8:09 pm

Hillary is not stupid, she won’t go woth a loser. Obama has dropped 9 to 17 points in the polls. If the DNC wants to win, it will be a Clinton/Obama ticket.

Posted by: martha S. | August 21, 2008, 8:11 pm 8:11 pm

It has just been leaked by insiders that Bill Clinton will be the VP running mate of Obama. The 22nd Amendment prevents a two-term President from running for another term. It does not prevent him from running for VP.

Here’s an audacious move. Withdraw your name Obama from the convention as you are a fraud, a liar, an empty suit, and a threat to the well being and security of this country.
No thanks Obama, you can keep the change.

Posted by: Jim | August 21, 2008, 8:26 pm 8:26 pm

Obama has already made his choice.
He’s keeping it a secret.
From the article:
“Just about every indication that I have, Charlie, from people close to the process, is that they’re going to try to hold this until Saturday,” Stephanopoulos told ABC’s Charlie Gibson on World News Thursday night. “To get the word out just a little bit before Barack Obama and the pick show up in Springfield, Illinois.”"
This reminds me of the teaser commercials that networks run for the season premieres/finales of highly popular TV shows to build up hype and viewership for the show.
I don’t really know why, but something about such a tactic bothers me.

Posted by: Bart | August 21, 2008, 8:28 pm 8:28 pm

If the Big Mac-eating wing of the GOP would ever do any thinking or research, they would know that Axelrod does NOT want Obama to try to front run from wire to wire. It’s a tight race #1 because the media WANT it to be tight (can’t make any money on a blowout) and #2 because it’s part of the Dem strategy.
Axelrod has this down to the precinct – but good luck, McCain supporters! Believe what you want to believe – like all those truth-filled emails that seem to be popular among the sheep.
Keep the smear campaign up like 2006 and the Democrats will just keep winning. P.S. Make a note – don’t call a guy an elitist when you own 7 houses and your wife is worth 100 mil. Idiots.

Most of the people that post comments here are fanatics. I can’t understand why everybody is so angry. Obama doesn’t really have anything to lose. Should McCain win, Obama will remain the very popular Senator from Illinois. The only people that have anything to lose are those who haven’t been well served by the last eight years. People are almost to dumb to be offered an alternative. You people need to grow up.

No to McCAIN ’08! This is not a recipe for f-ing up this country for 4 more years (more war, more debt, more madness and suffering) in the hopes that Hillary would pull off a victory in 2012. That is just way too much of a gamble. The RNC’s platform was to discuss “reform”, “prosperity” and “peace”. Reform means cuts to social services; Prosperity means more profits for big oil and investors, and Peace means invading Iran in order to achieve prosperity. The reform is just because Republicans like sticking it to those most in need. V.V.

I’m not sure how much worst things can get, but we might see with McCain surging ahead lately. McCain is a good guy and a patriot for what that’s worth, but he’s just too old. The fact that an old, out-of-touch Republican is running neck and neck with Obama must say something about how Obama is running his campaign. I also think it has a lot to do with what most Obamaniacs are in complete denaial about — that being Hillary Clinton supporters. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if Hillary is not on the ticket, we will suffer through 4 more years of Republican hell and corporate greed. The last 8 years have been a free for all for anyone with money or the ability to take money from the middle class.

Martin – Trust me, I won’t. Continue to break down the country piece by piece and enjoy yourselves.
Focus on meaningless drivel and let that drive your base passions rather than your intellect. Realize that all that matters is protecting your selfish view of how the country should be run. Watch the infrastructure of your land fall to pieces. Neglect your least well off citizens. Constrain your most productive citizens. Simultaneously grow the government out of all proportion (thank you, W.) while neutering its ability to perform any function adequately.
How could the door hit me when it has already fallen off its hinges?

It will be good to get the military draft back again and make people spend several years in service to their country. Then we can also afford to start more wars. And above all, get more conservative judges in ths Supreme Court so we can overtrun Roe v Wade and take away a woman’s right over her own body. I’d say go even farther for the pro-life and evangelicals and ban contraceptives. The more kids we have the better. More for the military draft later on! C’mon people, get real. To Kaylie McCain
We don’t care that your Dad has 14 houses, we do care that he pretends or doesn’t remember he has them. Frankly
there is nothing in his life that lots of us Americans can relate to. But it must be very difficult for him to relate to the average American when he hasn’t had a college loan to pay, an exwife to pay, nor difficulty feeding his family or paying his mortgage. As a matter of fact. I dare say you do not relate to average young people’s problems as well. Most of them can’t shop to the tune you do. I further can’t relate to his being a Southern Baptists and your family fortune lay in the sale of alcoholic products.

Now your going from one dummy to another. Who would want a president who finished last in his college class like mc cain did to govern over our country. Oh! I know! The same dummies who thought Bush would make a great president!

Why would Big Al or Hillary degrade themselves to VP status. Either is far superior to BO who has no experience, no record of accomplishment, and lacks the trust of Americans. Remember, this guy was voting present just 4 years ago in the Illinois state legislature.

I really wish that those people who are too lazy to spend the time to educate themselves about the issues and make rational judgements would just stay home. I am tired of all the stupid, irrelevant things being what people make their choice on. They are easily swayed by a few negative ads. Then there are the ones who think selecting our leaders mean voting for your team. They know nothing of what that team even stands for.

Obama/Bloomberg…. That’s my best guess. Remember, Obama said the person he’s chosen will be independent and will help fix the economy. People were talking about this possiblity in Feb/March but not since then. It would be a huge surprise to all the pundits but seems like a real possibility to me.

Nice job Obama. No wonder he is dropping like a rock in polling.

Why would anyone wish Al Gore on us again? He bored us to death for a year in 2000. He’s a sore loser and a hypocritical “inconvenient” liar. His green motto is “do as I say, not as I do”.
Too much bad blood between Obama and Hillary. She’s waiting for 2012 because she will not run second to anyone. Obama would play referree between her and Michelle from now until Nov.
It really doesn’t matter though, Obama is going to lose no matter who he picks as his running mate. Americans are not going to elect a radically liberal inexperienced, president. I mean come on, he’s so afraid to go on foxnews, he would probably pee his pants if Putin said Boo.

Gore has about 100 superdelegates in his back pocket to prevent anyone candidate to get the number needed to be nominated. You people are a riot. You realize this, right?
Some of you speak of “substance” and refer to Obama as being an “empty suit.” Take a look at yourselves, would you? Please. Practically each and every one of you, supporter and opponent alike, is lacking anything substantive to say.
Some of you seem bitter on the fact (yes, it is a fact, please check your emotions at the door and deal with it) that Obama beat out Clinton for the Democratic nomination. Get over it, people. I think it’s time for you to move past your petty grievances and put some serious thought into the issues at hand in this election (i.e. the economy, stupid; the war in Iraq; the energy crisis (and yes, it is a crisis that no amount of off-shore drilling will help, like it or not); healthcare; and the enormous legacy that President George W. Bush has left us, better known as a “budget deficit”). Yes, set aside your emotions and put some thought into these issues between now and November and then decide on which side of the fence you stand.
I’m embarassed by how you people are behaving here. You are Americans, aren’t you? Start behaving as though you are then. Carry yourselves with some dignity and class. Try to show a little respect for one another and for the two choices from which we have to pick in November. Attempt to display some intelligence.
Come on, people…we face some very serious problems! We’ve got no time for this nonsense. While our problems are great, we also have some very promising opportunities, provided we can set aside our bigotry and work together to take advantage of the opportunities before us.
OK…I’ve said my piece. It’s up to you to actually start using that lump between your ears.

Posted by: S Adams | August 21, 2008, 10:06 pm 10:06 pm

You may have a point, SC Eric.
But, you are missing the bigger picture.
Citizens (including mindless bloggers) respond to media direction and the actions of the candidates.
If John McCain had given a presidential response to the housing question instead of answering without a clue, the Obama campaign probably would not have jumped on his response.
And, if Obama had shown presidential posture is his comments and exhibited some of the “change” he promised instead of attacking at the same level as the media usually does, the bloggers would not have jumped on one side of the issue or another.
Right now, every employee of the news media is busy jockeying for a stab at the press secretary position that will open up in 2009, whether it be for McCain or Obama.
Let’s hope that none of the worthless media speculators even get minimal consideration.

Obama/Bloomberg… Read Bloomberg’s bio on Wikipedia. You might be surprised at what a good fit he’d be for Obama. He was a lifelong Democrat until he ran for Mayor of NYC in 2001 as a Republican. He changed to Independent in June 2007 and is very liberal on issues like abortion, gun control, gay marriage, and alternative energy. He’s reduced crime, produced a budget surplus in NYC, rides the subway to work, and is a strong proponent of public education. He’s also brilliant in the fields of finance, management, and the media. Just my two cents but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he turned out to be Obama’s pick.

unbelievable: If those are your ideals, then more power to you. I, personally, find it rather odd that those clinging feverishly to religion would vote for a man that throws the F-bomb and other curse words around as frequently as Senator McCain does. Those feverishly into guns? Yea, that makes sense that they’d support such a hot-tempered maverick. But the religious folks? Seems to me that they would all flock to Obama. I’m certain they would flock to Obama if he were caucasian. I had hoped that this nation had moved past such bigotry and prejudices; however, in reading many of these comments on articles such as this, I am beginning to have my doubts.
And yes, I am working to try to open your eyes to this and to really make you all *THINK* – probably a wasted effort at this point.
Back to this article and the issue at hand… I am certain that Senator Obama has put a great deal of thought into his running mate and I am certain that it is a decision with which he can live without any regrets. Likewise, I am certain that Senator McCain is putting as much thought into his choice.
I, personally, do care who each of these two candidates choose for a running mate. Their choices speak a great deal to their character and foreshadow the type of leader they would be.
I certainly hope that each candidate would choose someone who would challenge their preconceived notions and force them to make sound decisions, not based in emotion or prejudice. I suppose we will soon enough find out.

The change will come…….
The One who will lead us has spoken it!
His words do matter….
“We are the ones we have been waiting for”…………. ” “I am the one who give the people hope”………. We will win, McCain does not know who he is up against”……… “they (the heartland americans) are bitter clinging to guns and religion, and have atipithy toward those who don’t look like them”………. “They will try to make you afraid of me, because I don’t look like the other presidents”…….. “America is a downright mean country”
If you believe yesterday is past, and the future is tomorrow” then you must join us and vote for the change! Because the past really was yesterday, it is history, it wont be back, right? The future in coming, it’s not now, its going to be here later, right? So how can this logic not be perfectly clear…..the past was yesterday, the future is tomorrow, so if you agree with that, then logic dictates that you must vote for Obama, because he believes the past was yesterday, and he believes the future is also tomorrow. I mean, just look at the wisdom and insight he has!
Wer are unified, you have seen our message, Rezko, Wright, Ayers, Father Pfleger, Black liberation theology, “USA of the KKK” ………yes we will bring change…….
yes we can
yes we can
yes we can…………
“CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN”
We will change this evil nation and its evil people

Even though John McCain can’t remember how many houses he and his wife own, his political opponents have been keeping track of the multi-millionares’ holdings.
All told, the seven properties at which the McCains can rest their weary heads after long days on the campaign trail are valued at nearly $14 million, according to two separate research documents obtained by RAW STORY.
Perhaps we should cut the Republican presidential candidate some slack, though, for his fuzzy memory when it comes to counting his houses. With so many ranches, condos and beachfront properties spread across the country, keeping track could prove a little tricky.
“I think — I’ll have my staff get back to you,” McCain told two curious Politico reporters Wednesday.

There’s also the matter of the McCains’ daughter, 23-year-old Meghan. While many 20-somethings are lucky if they get a car for a college graduation gift, Meghan’s present for finishing at Columbia University was a $700,000 loft in a hip section of downtown Phoenix.

Posted by: maryintampa | August 21, 2008, 10:48 pm 10:48 pm

Mr. McCain’s Senate financial disclosures do not list these properties among his assets, because, according to public records, the homes and condominiums are in the name of a corporation trust listing his wife Cindy, the heiress to a beer distributorship whose worth is estimated to be anywhere from $35 million to $100 million.
Among those properties:
*Their ranch in Sedona, Ariz., where Mr. McCain is spending some down time this weekend, and its guest house and parcels, is valued at $1,766,440. (An earlier version of this post mistakenly referred to a piece in the Architectural Digest, which was not about Sedona.)
*In Phoenix, two adjacent condos with a price tag of $4.7 million in 2006.
*In Coronado, Calif., a condominium owned by Mrs. McCain’s “Dream Catcher Family” corporation is valued, according to recent tax assessments, at $2.7 million. And records show another condo there as well.
In La Jolla, Calif., Mrs. McCain’s trust owns another condo.
The couple also have a home in Arlington, Va., another condominium valued at $847,800 this year, according to public records.

There is so much in is background that has not been reported by the media and the republicans are going to hit him with everything once the conventions are over. They always found Obama to be the weaker canidate and want to make sure nothing happens to give Hillary the nomination. The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The five senators, Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), and Donald W. Riegle (D-MI), were accused of improperly aiding Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of an investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB).
After a lengthy investigation, the Senate Ethics Committee determined in 1991 that Alan Cranston, Dennis DeConcini, and Donald Riegle had substantially and improperly interfered with the FHLBB in its investigation of Lincoln Savings. Senators John Glenn and John McCain were cleared of having acted improperly but were criticized for having exercised “poor judgment”.

As he prepared to make his second run for the presidency, McCain made a series of public shifts on his positions, the most ballyhooed of which was his rapprochement with Jerry Falwell, whom he had once denounced as an “agent of intolerance.” The media noted the senator’s rightward drift, but while a few criticized him for his fairly obvious attempt to pander to the Republican base, most of the media stuck to the script. According to his liberal advocates, the maverick was only suppressing his maverick instincts and doing what he needed to do to win the nomination. Once past the nomination process, the thinking went, the real, more moderate McCain would return. Jacob Weisberg, writing in Slate, said that McCain’s shift was “a stratagem — the only one, in fact, that gives him a shot at surviving a Republican presidential primary.” Jonathan Chait called McCain’s shift a “fake right” . In recent months, McCain has backtracked on his positions on immigration and taxes, with an eye toward pleasing the conservative base. It goes without saying that any other politician who tried a similar gambit would be criticized for such blatant pandering. But for John McCain, the rules are different

Deception(?): Senator McCain has frequently related the following story on the campaign trail about his time in a Vietnamese POW camp:
“One night after being mistreated as a POW, a guard loosened the ropes binding me, easing my pain. On Christmas, that same guard approached me. Without saying a word, he drew a cross in the sand. We stood wordlessly looking at the cross remembering the true light of Christmas…”
It has been discovered that McCain’s “cross in the sand” story bears a striking resemblance to a story told about the recently deceased Alexander Solzhenitsyn about his time in a Soviet gulag:
“(…) Leaving his shovel on the ground, he slowly walked to a crude bench and sat down. He knew that at any moment a guard would order him to stand up, and when he failed to respond, the guard would beat him to death, probably with his own shovel. He had seen it happen to other prisoners.
As he waited, head down, he felt a presence. Slowly he looked up and saw a skinny old prisoner squat down beside him. The man said nothing. Instead, he used a stick to trace in the dirt the sign of the Cross. The man then got back up and returned to his work.
As Solzhenitsyn stared at the Cross drawn in the dirt his entire perspective changed. (…)”

Deception: Senator McCain, during his appearance with Pastor Rick Warren for his first joint appearance with Senator Obama, repeated a story he has told frequently to illustrate “just how evil” the “Islamo-fascists” we’re fighting in Iraq are:
“Not long ago in Baghdad, Al Qaeda took two young women who were mentally disabled and put suicide vests on them, sent them into a marketplace, and by remote control, detonated those suicide vests,” McCain told Rick Warren. “If that isn’t evil, you have to tell me what is.”
Problem is, the story is an urban legend that, despite having been debunked, the Senator continues to repeat.

Flip: Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) currently holds the title of most absent U.S. senator, missing over 60 percent of votes this session. In an interview with Walter Isaacson at the Aspen Institute yesterday [Aug 14], McCain claimed he has not “missed any crucial vote” on energy legislation:
McCAIN: “I have a long record of that support of alternate energy. … I’ve always been for all of those and I have not missed any crucial vote. But my citizens in Arizona know that when I’m running for the President of the United States I have to be out campaigning.”
Flop: Actually, Senator McCain is zero-for-8 in voting on crucial renewable energy legistlation this past year, allowing a bill to extend energy tax credits to wind & solar power industries to be defeated in Congress. Once, he wouldn’t even leave his office while present at the Senate to cast his vote.

Flip: During the Republican Primary Debate on May 3, 2007, Senator McCain reassured voters that he’d “follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell” to capture him.
Flop: After having criticized Senator Obama for threatening to go into the Pakistani territory of Waziristan to get bin Laden if the Pakistani government failed to cooperate, Senator McCain was asked about whether he’d go into Pakistan to get bin Laden, during an interview on Larry King Live:
King: “If you were president and you knew that bin Laden was in Pakistan, and you knew where, would you have U.S. forces go in after him?”
McCain: “Larry, I’m not gonna go there and here’s why: Pakistan is a sovereign nation. I think the Pakistanis want bin Laden out of their hair and out of their country, as causing great difficulties in Pakistan itself. But I want to assure you that I will get Osama bin Laden as President of the United States and I will bring him to justice no matter what it takes.”
Editor’s Note: While McCain may believe Pakistanis “want to be rid of bin Laden”, one of the difficulties in obtaining actionable intelligence on his current whereabouts is the fact bin Laden is so beloved by the Pakistani people, no one is willing to give him up. To make matters worse, the Pakistani government declared Waziristan, the Northern border region with Afghanistan as a “demilitarized safe zone” off-limits to both the U.S. & Pakistani military.

g*d** why are we wasting our time screwing around with all of Obama’s baggage. This is the worst election ever. It has gotten worse every year since Bill Clinton left. Gore had it stolen and I do not understand why they did’nt run him again. just run Gore – Clinton or Clinton-Gore. They can win, none of this bs.

Wow, WOW, the freeking level of discussion on this forum is lower than what I would expect on a playground. Do ANY of you actually read the policies of the candidates (available on their websites)? Do any of you actually think about things? My God, most of you are pathetic. No wonder you keep electing idiots to run your country.

Obama degrades the process of picking a VP. Like a shallow teenager, he behaves in a coy and immature manner, thereby reducing the seriousness of having an effective and winning partership with a mature adult. By promoting a guessing game, he really keeps showing how out of touch he is. His actions are narcissistic and, ultimately, destructive to the party.

All the hype about the VP choices signifies that both Presidential candidates have a lot of negatives otherwise, who would care? Obama has no experience and struggles when he has to answer tough questions without the teleprompt….uh….um…..uh….um and then a lot of well spoken empty rhetoric. McCain is not a true conservative who would get government out of the way and let individuals and businesses be innovative and solve problems…the government cannot do it. Also – I love the comments about businesses making too much money and anger toward the rich. The socialists are really getting to you….when you do not have what other people do have the government take it away. That is a great way to provide incentive to expand, invest, and create jobs. The economy has never improved by bashing one segment of society to try to improve another.

Obama is not a monkey. He is descended from the Luo tribe of Kenya. You know the Kenyans, they’re the guys who are always competing in track and marathon races. Frequently they can outrun a German Shepherd. That’s why the cops are trading in their German Shepherds for the much faster Belgian Shepherds.
Obama continues being promoted by his propagandists, the New York media. He is the cover boy of two magazines this month, Time Magazine and The Advocate, the gay activist magazine. Obama has not yet come out of the closet, however.

I don’t think it matters who Obama picks for V.P. I am scared. If Obama gets in, we have problems of a divided nation and lack of leadership- if Mc Cain, My son may get drafted into an old man’s war, and we get four more years of recession and shipping jobs overseas. This is what is important to me as a mother- being able to shelter and feed our children, and not have them stolen from us to go to war protecting America’s interest in the remaining oil reserves. I, like many Americans wish we had another choice.

I really hope he chooses Al Gore or Hillary Clinton as it would make an unstoppable political force that will bury McCaine and the Bush legasy of terror for all eternity. I dont believe Caine, Bush and Cheney have a clue just how pissed off the American people really are, but I think they are about to find out. It is time for the “old gaurd” to die so the rest of us can move on. The future rests upon this election and as 70% of the centarians surveyed said, “This is the most important election in their 100+ years of being alive” We either move forward and start solving this worlds problems with Obama, or, we start the “End of Days” with Mc Caine.

Wow, looks like i’ve stumbled upon a bunch of unevolved idiots. I dig the abc website, but i’m a little freaked out by the commenters. You people are a disgrace to the nation, and you represent and support the ideas and politicans that are destroying this nation. It isn’t too late to emerge from your collective coma. There are two sides to history, and you’re about to be caught on the wrong side. Barack Obama will win, and go on to be one of the greatest Presidents in American history. There’s your “straight talk”…just like you like it, right?

Hillary will never be President you pathetic losers. Do us all a favor and move to Iraq. SHE VOTED TO AUTHORIZE THE WAR IN IRAQ….DID YOU FORGET??
That was the deal breaker.
Bad judgement.
Obama is the most sensible, educated, and NORMAL of the two. McCain is out of touch with average Americans all he can do is talk about being a P.O.W.
Anything to distract people from the fact that he graduated in the bottom 5 of his class. That is totally unacceptable, and he is simply not smart enough, or mentally stable enough to be President. It’s a new day, and McSame is caught in the 20th century still. More torture? More war? More recession? More disgracing Americas reputation internationally? Another Cold War with Russia? More trampling of the Constitution? These are what McCain is offering. If you have a friggin’ brain, you’ll vote for Obama in November.

Posted by: ObamaOWNS | August 22, 2008, 1:23 am 1:23 am

I read through a good 30 of these comments hoping to read something intelligent, whether it was indifferent, for, or against Obama… Instead I read what seemed like a bunch of 15 year old kids arguing about the best way to snipe a n00b in CounterStrike. If you know nothing about either candidate, then do some good old fashioned reading before you make a stupid comment, as you’re only making the candidate you support look bad. “This idiot’s voting for McCain? But he knows nothing about him!” or “This guy has his facts wrong, and he’s voting for Obama?”.
Either stay home on election day, or read a few newspapers before you go vote.

Posted by: Daniel Costalis | August 22, 2008, 1:30 am 1:30 am

anyone who truly wants the best President for our children, our troops and our country know that only Senator Clinton is capable of being that person……disrespect or hatred for her is only to disguise one’s guilt for supporting lesser candidates (mccain/obama) to take on such an enormous job

Posted by: chris | August 22, 2008, 1:33 am 1:33 am

yes, you are right obamaOWNS, Hillary did vote for the war in Iraq based on false information provided by the Bush Admininstration. The loser Obama wasn’t even a Senator when the war started so of course he couldn’t vote for or against it.
Like about 18 million other democrats, I will not vote for Obama if Hillary is not on the ticket. Obama is flip-flopping as much as McCain now and his poll numbers continue to plummet. I doubt that he will ever be President either. Too much bad mojo surrounding this clown.

I know that Obama didn’t vote for the war because he wasn’t a Senator at the time, but couldn’t he help his brother who lives on a dollar a month in a hut in Kenya? I’m not so sure that I would want a President so selfish that he couldn’t lend a helping hand to his own brother. He had the gaul to mention him in one of his books,so why doesn’t he send him some CHANGE from his book sales?

Rosanne: Barak has done more and given up more for the poor than you can hope to dream of. If this “brother” wants to improve his situation he could ASK for help and not just expect some kind of free handout from someone who lives on the other side of the world and barely knows him. And have you asked this brother if he WANTS help from Barak? …you know what they say about those that assume.

Posted by: Scotti | August 22, 2008, 2:02 am 2:02 am

I’d pick Gore too. Hillary can run again in ’12. But in the meantime, we really need to get past this and beat the Republicans already. Hillary’s not your mother. She’s not your cousin. She’s not your twin sister. You’re not married to her. She’s not the savior. She’s just a person. She was a candidate for the democratic ticket that played by the rules and lost. It really doesn’t matter either because it’s the democratic party that matters, not the candidate. I vote for the party and I don’t give a lick if it’s Hillary or Obama, I’m tired of the way the Republicans are running the country, aren’t you??? If you like the republicans and the job they did and the mess they made then you’re in the wrong forum anyway.

I have been against Hillary as VP choice, thinking better of Richardson or Biden. However, it now seems that she could be the energizer Obama needs to kick his campaign up a little. After all, it would be an historic moment and very exciting: first black president and first female VP. And it would, hopefully, mollify all the PUMAs out there once and for all. I guess we’ll know soon enough. Thanks to all who have posted thoughtful comments and, to the goons, you belong in kindergarten.

NEWS FLASH!
As a staunch Obama supporter and contributor here throughout the primaries and now the general – I have a confession to make…
I fought tooth and nail against Hillary during the primaries and in the general have continued to rail against the idiot PUMAs.
However, realizing this is a fight against pure evil – The Repuke-licans and we must win to CHANGE the country for the better. I have to admit that at this point I am almost starting to hope that the VP will be Hillary.
OK, I said it, go ahead and crucify me!
I would prefer Biden, but I am a Democrat and in this situation with the party split, I think (biting my tongue) Hillary would be the best choice right now….
Obama, get a food taster lined up and banish Bill to Africa for the duration…..
OK I said it….
My feeling is that is what Obama is going to do in the next couple of days anyway!
So PUMAs, get ready for Koom-Bye-Ya!
Doesn’t really matter to me anyway. Because like some famous VP said, the job isn’t worth a bucket of warm spit anyway. Also Obama fans, it is a way to neutralize Hillary and the Clintons until 2016. Then Hillary can run (if things are working out well) and take the Dems into 2024….

Martha S. — clearly you were asleep in Gov’t class.
A vice-presidential candidate is still subject to presidential term limits (10 years, so 2 terms of your own and up to 2 years of the previous president’s term if they cannot complete it). Bill Clinton cannot be VP since it’s possible to become president (should something happen that the president cannot fulfill their term). He can be a senator or a Rep. The highest position he could hold would be Speaker of the House (at which point, he could theoretically become president again, should something happen that neither the Pres or VP completes their terms)
I know you were just being facetious in your comment, but figured might as well point out the obvious fallacy in that wishful thinking

That’s the absolute shallowness of this man. The decision is left to the final moments because he has to test the poltical waters to see if he should pick candidate A or B to see what it would do for his image. It’s as ift he realized that the suit he is wearing somehow clashes with the decor that he will have to discard it for something else. Instead of a thoughtful selection that would enable him to have a team that weathers all storms. McCain is no better either since it was obvious that he was flirting with a pro-abortion candidate until that trial balloon blew up in his face. ABC is shameless is taking thse wild guesses. As many have said, give this a rest. When the empty suit is ready to gurgle his dance partner, he will blurp it out, be it Wright, Ayers, Leftnut Jackson, or even flaming O-ring Farrahkan.

People of America – don’t get all worked-up with the VP-picks or the election.
Just wait and find out. Remember last time? It’s gonna be a surprise who’ll be the next president, anyway!
I’ve learned that most Americans are stupid and bigmouths. So is probably the prez you’ll get this time.
And for ’12 it will be Roseanne if she gains another 150 pounds.

Posted by: Sah'llahedin | August 22, 2008, 5:34 am 5:34 am

No you’re speaking my language ABC.
Obama/Gore is what I hope is the surprise team that Obama unveils.
It’s such a good pick, it will certainly catch the media off guard who I feel are looking in the wrong direction. It will stop the P.U.M.A.s marching to McCain in their tracks. It will put fear on the Republicans who are still haunted from stealing the 2000 election.
Please Obama pick Al Gore, there won’t be any doubt on your prospect of winning with him. The Clintons will become completely forgotten (well after the Clinton convention they will be).
I can picture a panicked John McCain scrambling at this news, him probably thinking Obama would chose Hillary and he would pick Mitt Romney, McCain going for the Democrat turncoat Joe Lieberman instead.
Then what a election season this will be.
Obama/Gore vs McCain/Lieberman
with the narrative, what a difference 8 years make headlining the event.

McCain/Lieberman win 08.
Democrats will loose in 08 because of severe division.
Obama will go back to senate 08.
McCain will privatize social security.
Oil/Big Corporations will run government.
McCain will get into war with Iran, as Bush plan to withdraw from Iraq is com[leted.
Supreme Court appointees will be all pro-lifers.
McCain’s healthcare plan will be privatizing it.
McCain hopes big oil will make more profits to invest in oil drilling, while oil prices soar to $6.
McCain will again win 012 by defeating Hillary because she couldn’t have Obama as her running mate, loosing other half of Democratic party.
Obama will not be there to kick around a completely lost democratic party.
This is all everyone wanted, perhaps.

Obama would seldom ever consider picking Clinton as his VP running mate. Michelle would not tolerate that. However, when you see how many points he has lost in any of the polls, it is conceivable. He is between a rock and a hard place now. Hillary Clinton has a strongly negative effect on the voters, and while she would pull demographics unique to her, and largely absent with Obama, it would be seen as an act of desperation. Biden is almost as strident as Senator Clinton, and a most welcomed VP choice from the perspective of the Republicans. Biden is an excellent debater, but then so is the empty suit, at least with respect to scripted speeches with the aid of a teleprompter. I look forward to the election and may the non-socialist win.

Joe Biden would be the best choice. Impecable foreign experience credentials, and a great attack dog who would tear McLame a new one, and then some! Biden is the Best.

The posts on here just reflect what I’ve always said: Not everyone is intelligent. It’s like everything else. Twenty percent of the people have 80 percent of the intelligence, and millions of those 80 percenters are nothing more than high-functioning beasts of burden.

I continue to be amazed at the bitterness of some Clintonistas. SHE LOST! Get over it. She has endorsed Obama. Their issues match-up almost perfectly. Are you Clintonistas so bitter that you are going to abandon what you fought so hard for and go 180 degrees in the opposite direction? What does that say about your principles?

Posted by: EdDoc | August 22, 2008, 10:40 am 10:40 am

I worry about the future of our country based on the level of discussion I see in some of these posts. I’m a life-long Democrat and I’d much rather HRC be the candidate, for a host of reasons none of which include the color of her skin or Obama’s, but I’ll support my party’s candidate and do what I can to get him elected *UNLESS* this back-biting and insult-hurling Obama contingent turns me off of him. So, if doesn’t pick HRC as VP, and the people I’m talking to don’t quit calling me a racist, rabid, fat old woman (none of which I am), I may not vote at all and it will be *your* fault. Remember that no matter what you think, you need my vote or you risk losing the general election.

Sue, I supported HRC specifically for her time-proven stance on the issues of reproductive rights, education, healthcare, among others. Your use of the word “retards” doesn’t raise the level of discussion to something substantive, it merely offends. This is the kind of word children use in a schoolyard and it reflects poorly on you and your candidate.

Obama pick:
1) ABC. You know what that stands for.
2) “Ready to be prez”. jeez, Barr, what other kind is there? This is what you say to shut the media up!
3) “Challenges his thinking” yep. Standard O-group requirement: think Obama, no mo drama.
My guess is: the media, in 20-30 years of this prognosticating, has been only NEAR the mark one, two times out of about a dozen.
SOMEONE YOU NEVER HEARD OF IF YOU DON’T LIVE IN HIS STATE has been picked.
Sorry guys.
Dream pick for Barack: Colin Powell. ((As in, IN YOUR DREAMS, Barack!!))
McCain pick:
Romney? McCain *HATES* him! Plus, Willard Milton Romney doesn’t exactly thrill any conservatives except the taxophobes.
Huckabee? Nice guy, but don’t leave him alone with the reporters — most likely VPer to committ a gaffe
Pawlenty? mebbe, but…..
Ridge? hmmm…. tough on terror, worth 5-10 pts in key state…….
okay, McCain’s pick is Ridge, sorry pro-lifers, this is about the guys in the middle. Wait 4-8 years for Someone Else to run.
Wild Card for McCain: Carly Fiorina, former CEO of HP. Solid econ cred, slight pull on HRC’s “woman prez” crowd,
solid speaking ability (but not too much, as w/ Mitt and Mike H.)
PS McCain plays dice -literally- when he’s in casino areas. Barack played poker w/Chicago pols. Looks like we’re going to see that in their VP pix, too.

Now there is buzz about Congressman Chet Edwards of Texas

Posted by: EdDoc | August 22, 2008, 11:44 am 11:44 am

The youngest of Barack Obama’s half siblings has told of his shame about living in a shack and existing on a dollar a month whilst his brother plans to become the most powerful man in the world.
With the Democratic Convention in Denver just days away, Italian Vanity Fair magazine tracked George Hussein Onyango Obama to a 6ft by 9ft wooden shed in Kenya.
The difference in the men”s lifestyles could not be more dramatic. Mr Obama, 47, travels the world with an army of bodyguards, whilst his brother defends himself with his own bare hands on the rough streets of Haruma, a Nairobi shanty town.
“If anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed,” George told the magazine.
DailyMail, August 21 2008
Shame on you, Mr Obama. Your brother and his young children are starving. They have not food on their table and you spend 100,000 dollars on your vacation in Hawaii.
Shame on you, Mr Obama.

McCain is a crook, a cheater, and a phoney old geezer who will never be elected President of this great nation. People can see through his phoney flag waving “I am one of you” lies, and his “I’m the real patriot war hero” crap. He is another low intellet George Bush – graduated 894 out of 899 at the academy and only got in because his father was an Admiral. McCain cheated on his first wife after she was horribly injured in an auto accident with more than one woman, and finally married a rich heiress to promote his political career. He doesn’t even have the decency to show respect to Cindy McCain – called her the C-word in front of reporters and campaign staffers. McCain was up to his eyeballs in scandal in the Keating 5 scandal and goes flying off the handle in congress on a regular basis – swearing, ranting and raving and calling other people disgusting names – the guy is unhinged and senile – early signs of dementia. The reason he wants Joe Lieberman to be Vice-President is so he can stand behind him and whisper all the right answers in his ear because he can’t tell the Sunnis from the Shite and can’t even figure out how to get on the Internet – because he is stupid!! He wants to keep us in Iraq for 100 years, and thinks the answer to every international incident is to start a war. How many wars will the warmonger get us involved in? He has talked about renewing the draft for gods sake. Wake up and see that he is nothing but an old fool who will say anything to win – dirty politics – hmph some maverick.

I find it so disheartening that former Hillary supporters would actually support John McCain instead of Barack Obama. Are you really such sore losers? I did want Hillary to win; in fact my dream ticket would have been Clinton/Obama. I think that it would have been the woman who really changed up the mess this country is in. But, because Obama is the expected nominee, I will go with him. His policies are so much more similar to Hillary’s than are McCain’s. Do you really want another old white guy with socially retarded policies in the White House just because it can’t be Hillary? God, I thought that Democrats were smarter than that!

Posted by: DianeM. | August 22, 2008, 12:53 pm 12:53 pm

Someone please explain why Hillary should get the nomination when she didn’t reach the delegates needed…it is like saying argentina should still win even though the US beat them an hour ago…
By the way, the last time a nominee was forced to pick the person he defeated as vice president was when Thomas Jefferson narrowly lost to John Adams..
Get over it and vote for your convictions, not the person…IF YOU SUPPORT WOMEN”S REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS, UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE, AND REASONED DIPLOMATICE FORIEGN POLICY VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT.
On the other hand if you want the continued failed economic policies of McCains top economic advisor, Phil Gramm (who deregulated the housing and futures markets leading to our current economic crisis) and you want more Roberts and Alito’s on the Bench vote McCain.

If Obama was so concerned with uniting the country, he would have let it be known that he was choosing Clinton.
It just makes sense. But by not choosing her he can let her take the fall if he loses. She has stumped for him, endorsed him and done all of the things she said she would do. By ignoring the 18 million people that did vote for her, he is in a nutshell saying that uniting the country is not so important to him afterall.
It is disgraceful, the whole thing. If he wins they will say it was because he stayed above her influence, if he loses they will say it is because she is a devil woman who didnt know her role….it is just a blatant slap in the face not only to her, but to the 18 million people that stood behind her.
He is acting as if her 18 million supporters do not count…and that is not exactly consistent with his whole message of uniting the country.
It is a set up and it shows his true character. He is in this for himself and his gigantic ego. He resembles Bush more and more each day…it is so scary that as democrats we are about to let the same exact thing happen again…we are about to get bamboozled by an inexperienced smooth talker with little substance who is obviously not ready or committed to taking on the role as a leader…I will never vote for McCain…but I can certainly not vote for Obama either.
I will write in my choice, or cast a blank ballot of protest…I am sick of choosing the lesser of two evils…this has to stop.
We can not let this happen again…just because he is a democrat does not mean that we should all be so blind to what is happening…it doesnt make it any more right because he is someone who says he is one of us anymore than it made it right when Bush did it for the past 8 years…we need to stop electing based on likeability and start electing based on talent and commitment and history.

Hey Eric in South Carolina, I wish you luck in trying to make people care about the issues.
I find it deeply, DEEPLY saddening to see first-hand how the United States’ place in the world and its reputation have been severely tarnished over the past years. Living abroad for much of this time, I’ve seen how much influence we have lost over the decisions of other countries, how our allies have begun to pull back from the nation which once led the way on human rights issues, the rule of law, and multi-lateralism. The Bush regime has destroyed that image, and it will not be easy to regain.
Look at what happened in Georgia–a US ALLY was utterly destroyed, and we sat here, with no influence in the region, nothing to say to make Russia stopped, because George Bush has drastically damaged this country, both militarily and economically. THIS MUST STOP, and McCain really just wants to continue the same policies that have led to it.
The Iraq war has weakened and over-stretched our military, grinding the most powerful force in history down through repeated re-deployments of men and material in situations for which they were never intended. US statements without either economic (thanks to enormous deficits and now the financial crisis) or military clout are revealed to the rest of the world as paper tigers, and the Iraq war has made it very difficult for the US to have adequate leverage with many other nations.
So for God’s sake, people, I understand that some of you are unhappy that Obama won by such a narrow margin, but he DID win, even now, with Michigan and Florida counted, and we need to be clear on what our future holds. Some Republicans like to use the ideal of ‘patriotism’ to divide us, but I just want to use it to have a call to reason. If you believe that one man has better policies for the nation, better judgement than the other, supports the rights that you believe in, then it is your PATRIOTIC DUTY to this country, in its dire time of need, to put that person in office.
If you feel that person is McCain, and truly believe his policies will be the best for the strength of this nation, then I salute you and wish you well, though we have different opinions. If you believe that person is Obama, as I do, and yet you vote for someone else, independent or otherwise, then you have failed the one true test of civic duty that democracy requires.

Suc Kit: You really do.
congratulations on your ability to add delegates..you are a real genius. In my mind the lesser of 2 evils is not Pro-Palestinian, arrogant, lying, socialist, Anti-American, stuttering, weak, presumptuous skinny Obama. Obama, the guy who has thrown so many people under the bus – that bus is about 10 feet off the ground and climbing. Your boy is goin’ down and I LOVE IT.

It is plain and simple if we do not get a president who is a friend of Israel, we will regret it. Obama is definitely NOT a friend of Israel.

Oh brother. Al Gore? lol…get real.
Obama is just as pusillanimous as Dukakis, Gore and Kerry. What we needed was a fighter…what we needed was Hillary Clinton. You get what you pay for…and the Democrats will lose again in November because of the very bias media coverage and superdelegates who didn’t fully comprehend what their “job” scope was.

Suc Kit…You must be a riot at partys. I bet crowds scatter like roaches when they see you coming toward them. You are one frustrated girly-man. You are in love with Obama (yes in THAT way), aren’t you? gross. Well, Michelle is just a beard so maybe you have a shot.
Please stop cutting and pasting like a freakin mad man and go back to your job at the Geek Squad.

Hillarious that you babies would talk about making fools of yourselves…you lost, i gave you the stats over and over again…
I was a Biden guy from the beginning, he should be on top of the ticket, but I will vote Obama so that the pendulum will finally swing back the way it was when your beloved (and mine until about 3 months agon) Clintons ruled.
But you retards are deluding yourselves into thinking McCain somehow is a better alternative even though he represents the polar opposite of your girl.

So Obama, Biden, Hillary. They are basically all the same to you? Do you think that because Obama shares similar views\policies as Hillary that they are interchangable? Not even close pal. I love how you Obama nut jobs use this “same policies” argument to try to talk us into voting for him and then in the next breath totally bash Hillary. Your the fool.

What is with this circus anyway? It should have been Hillary from the get-go. This is just another attempt by Obama to get as much publicity out of something for no reason. He has continued to hurt the Democratic Party with these games and now he has stooped to the Republicans and their smear tactics in the ads. He said he would never do that. Oh yeh, he flip-flops.

Posted by: kris | August 22, 2008, 3:38 pm 3:38 pm

kris —-he has to fight back he remembers what happend to kerry when he just stood there and took the republican smear…also alot of us voted for hillary i did but she lost to obama so how do you think she could have beat mccain.

Posted by: tom | August 22, 2008, 3:41 pm 3:41 pm

Kris: Obama’s camp is planning to release ads against Cindy McCain about how much her shoes cost. Obama can not complain when the other side starts releasing ads on his wife.

with the lack of ability for Obama and his supporters to reach out , no way, go away, stay away. I will vote where it counts, the Senate and Congress. We have a checks and balance. Go Dems and Go home Obama

over21—–go dems and go home obama! wow another sore loser hillary supporter.so go vote for mccain and you are voting for someone that is as far from hillary as you can get on policies…what are you thinking i voted for hillary in my state but i will now vote for obama because he is a democrat and is the best choice we have.

I have a question… Just out of curiousity, could Clinton change from Dem to Ind? Or is it too late for that? Honestly, if she could change to an independent, she would probably win. I vote for the person, not the party. I don’t agree with Obama nor do I agree with McCain. It is true that Clinton did not get the votes that she needed but, it was because quite a few of the delegates went against their own voters. That will probably come back to haunt them when it’s time for reelection.

Sue:
Even those who are mentally retarded have enough common sense and decency to not call others “retard” or “retarded”. This is an insult to all. It’s a “mud slinging” tactic by those individuals who are stupid. Most of the mentally challenged persons I know are willing to allow others to express their opines without name calling in return.
SHAME on YOU for your inconsiderate remarks and name-calling. I hope this is not something you are teaching your children, but then again this is a learned stupidity. Like mother, like child.

I’m not going to vote for McCain , I’m not going to vote for a president, only for the people that can realy make a change the Senate and Congress. I’m not backing someone I don’t trust.

Posted by: over21 | August 22, 2008, 4:02 pm 4:02 pm

Segnenlea: If Hillary ran as an Independent (is that possible?) then McCain would definately win…The Obamanots would still vote for their Messiah so they would essentially split the Dem votes, ensuring the McCain win. What a damn shame the DNC really screwed up again.

Barack & Michelle Reported Income of $4.2 Million Dollars
If Barack and Michelle Obama have you convinced that they are “down with the struggle”, then I am afraid that you are a fool. Their only struggle was deciding which private school was good enough for their children, while voting against vouchers that would allow the “real struggling Americans” to make that same choice for their children.

Bwahahah Tom…we are officially in a economic slow down not recession. A recession/depression is what occured last time we got an idiot as president along with a demmie congress…aka the Carter years. Surprisingly, Obama and Carter share almost the exact same type of grow the government, cater to the world, and tax businesses out of business. You have no clue how bad it could get…thankfully people are researching the lying crook Obama now and realize that they will be voting against him in November (providing of course that he isn’t in jail with his buddy Rezko that is or tossed out for being born in Kenya.)

Posted by: chattyway | August 22, 2008, 4:20 pm 4:20 pm

Hillary is a great lady and stood her ground trying to get the Obama supporters to understand. She got yelled at and called a foul names. She did that because she thought she could prevent them from making a mistake. I know you have made the mistake and do not have to take that kind of abuse, so see ya , no way

Posted by: Charlie | August 22, 2008, 4:47 pm 4:47 pm

Here’s the thing there is no need to be hostle toward either candidate or each other. Remember this is America and you can vote for who you want to. And guess what? Nobody else has to know who it was or why you did it. So be nice and play fair.

Posted by: science | August 22, 2008, 4:58 pm 4:58 pm

Tom: I totally disagree with you. Obama should never have been a choice because he lacks everything in politics to run this country. He is the worst we ever had and I hope McCain landslides him. He is too sure of himself and very arrogant. And who care how many houses that McCain or Cindy own. That has nothing to do with foreclosures. They have the money do buy what they please. Foreclosures are by people that wanted to live like the rich only to find out they had a beer pocket. Rezko paid 3/4% of the house that Obama lives in because he didn’t have the money. He is the only senator that had to have someoone buy their house.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | August 22, 2008, 5:10 pm 5:10 pm

If Hillary is not chosen the VP Obama will lose the election for sure and the majority of Hillary’s voters. That’s the good news. McCain will then become our president and Obama can go back to his senate seat. Big mouth Biden, no nothing Bayh, Kathleen, Kaine, Chett or not qualified to be the VP because they don’t have the experience that Hillary has. And if Hillary is not chosen she would be a fool to campaign for him and so would Bill Clinton. I would let him stew in the pot.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | August 22, 2008, 5:17 pm 5:17 pm

Obama cannot afford to buy 7 houses cash on the line because he doesn’t have the millions of dollars that John or Cindy have. Its their money to do what they want with it and its none of Obama’s business or anyone else’s what he has. Obama’s job is to campaign and tell the public what the issues are and what he is going to do. The word change came from a speech or RFK and Obama used it for his own benefit not being able to think for himself. And he wants to be president.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | August 22, 2008, 5:21 pm 5:21 pm

i’m very sorry. But what’s this hype about Obama’s VP? So what if he chooses a VP? He’s going to lose in November. All that’s needed is for him to appear on stage with McCain again and that will be the beginning of the end for THE ONE. P.S This celebrity with shady dealings isn’t what America needs right now. People, WAKE UP!!!

Posted by: icen von | August 22, 2008, 5:28 pm 5:28 pm

Adam: You are so right. An Obama/Clinton ticket would definately help him win the white house whereas if he pickes someone like big mouth Biden, no nothings Kathleen, Bayh, Kaine,or others would make him lose. Biden for sure, because he is mister know it all. The others do not have the experience to be VP or the knowledge of foreign policy like Hillary. If he does not choose her he will lose due to her voters being upset.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | August 22, 2008, 5:36 pm 5:36 pm

Charlie: You are so right. Obama is arrogant and overly confident that he is going to win the general election but he can get fooled by who he picks for VP and Hillary’s voters are waiting for that. If he doesn’t choose Hillary I am willing to bet that her 60% of her voters will write her name in or vote McCain. He still can lose at the convention so he should be so quick to name his VP until that time. He is speaking too soon. What if he doesn’t have enough delegates and Hillary does.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | August 22, 2008, 5:42 pm 5:42 pm

jim in CA: Your right. Because if Hillary is not on the ticket I am voting McCain and hope all her voters do the same. I believe he doesn’t want to choose her because of Bill Clinton but Bill Clinton could be a big asset to his administration if elected such as an Ambassador. Obama needs all the help he can get and probably thinks he can get it from Biden, Bayh, Kaine, Chett or Kathleen but he can’t. They don’t have that kind of experience like the Clinton’s have and if he is that defiant he doesn’t deserve the presidency.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | August 22, 2008, 5:47 pm 5:47 pm

I’m amazed at some of the idiotic comments posted here. Gore should be in prison? Obama threw his granny under the bus? Hilary would turn down the VP role? Where are you getting this ridiculous information? Oh, right. If you read it on the Internet, then it must be true.

Posted by: imtheboss | August 22, 2008, 5:52 pm 5:52 pm

If Obama is smart, it would be Hillary. He needs someone like her to savage the competition. With her experience of being attacked by rabid Republicans for so many years, she has learned to fight like a champ. She can play dirty, too, just like Republicans. Then Obama can keep his head out of the fray and continue to look exceedingly presidential.

John McCain wants to reinstate the draft so our children can die for Exxon. McCain’s voting record on issues regarding our troops and veterans: It’s abysmal — do an internet search and read for yourself; McCain’s voting record on women’s issues: It’s abysmal — do an internet search and read for yourself — this is of particular importance to Hillary supporters who are thinking of voting for McCain — after reading his record, there will be no question that Hillary supporters should NOT vote for McCain. Do an internet search of McCain’s voting record on any issues facing Americans today, and you will see how time and time again McCain votes for the interests of big business, big money and rich people, and time and time again McCain votes to give the finger to the rest of us who are just trying to get by in this world and make a living. McCain does not care about anyone but the rich. This is an important vote this year. Don’t vote for McCain unless you want your children to die so the oil companies can rake in even bigger profits than the $1,500 a second they are earning today. McCain will kill your children for Exxon.

Russell4America…
thanks for straitening me out. I am one of those Hillary supporters who was ready to vote for McCain. You are a HERO!! Thank G-d you told me that McCain and Exxon were going to kill my children! Whew!! Dodged that bullet! You’re a real AAA-HHOOLLE. I hope when President McCain re-instates the draft, as you say he will, that you are the Very First one who has to fight. In the beginning, I just disagreed and disliked B.O.’s “platform”, if one can call any of his ideas solid enough to form a platform. As time went on and I learned and read more about him, I began to see that he is not the type of human being we need as President of the United States. Simply put, he is not American enough.

neil1785—so you say but obama and hillaries policies and ideals are almost a mirror image..but i bet a sore loser like you will vote for mccain even though he is as far from hillary as possible…you ex-hillary supporters dont make any sense—well yes you do you are not only sore losers you are racist pigs.

Please remember that the Dem convention has not been held yet. Hillary could pull off an upset and get the nomination with help from the super delegates. The question then becomes n”Who will she pick as her running mate?” This is not as farfetched as it may sound.

“Check the electoral map…mccain is winning!!!!” Posted by: mfmros | Aug 21, 2008 10:16:24 PM
As of August 22d, the electoral vote is: Obama 269 to McCain’s 256, with 13 states tied.
Since it takes 270 to win, it looks like Obama has the “if the election were today” edge. However, it’s not a lock, since he’d have to cop at least one tied state.

Posted by: Blueboy1938 | August 22, 2008, 9:31 pm 9:31 pm

Oops! That’s 13 electoral votes tied, not “states.”

Milk and honey during the Clinton admin? Are you out of your mind??? Yes he’s better than Bush but NAFTA sent thousands of jobs overseas. Now in place of those manufacturing jobs we says “Hello welcome to Wal-mart!” (at the tune of $7/hr. Yeah, thanks Bill!

If his choice isn’t mrs. Clinton, he’s not nearly as smart as I’d hoped he’d be. She almost beat him during the past run-up, and his numbers have been regressing against Mr. McCain since the end of the primary battles, when, withn the stage all to himself he has failed to make the CASE! He needs her and her supporters, or else he’s toast in Nov.

Posted by: steve snow, suwanee,ga. | August 22, 2008, 9:51 pm 9:51 pm

Via Senator Biden Bio on Wikipedia—-obama would be stupid to name him—-especially because Senator Biden has agreed with George Bush’s War, and has even been appropriating funds for the troops and the War. THAT FACT can’t be ignored, since obama criticized Hillary for “voting for George Bush’s War”.
Boy, if the obama pick is Biden, the GOP will eat him alive over these facts….
