DNC Launches New Anti-McCain Website: TheNextCheney.com
Vice President Dick Cheney may not appear at the Republican Convention, the American Spectator reports.
The Spectator reports that "Cheney has not sought a speaking slot at the convention, nor has his staff sought a role for him at the convention. The McCain campaign has not gone out of its way to reach out to Cheney, though a segment of conservative Republicans had been pressing the campaign to include Cheney in the convention agenda."
Why? Is there concern in Camp McCain that playing John Williams’ foreboding trumpet-filled Darth Vader theme song will bring gloom into the coronation of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.?
Schpritzing McCain with that Cheney parfum is clearly the hope of the Democratic National Committee, which this morning launches a new website, TheNextCheney.com.
The site attacks not McCain so much, however, as much as it goes after potential VP picks for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee — specifically Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Virginia, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, FedEx CEO Fred Smith and Sen. John Thune, R-SD.
Sample rhetoric: "Dick Cheney handpicked Pawlenty as Minnesota’s nextgovernor in 2001. Learn more about Pawlenty’s ethics violations."
- jpt
UPDATE: In response to the DNC’s launch of the new website, Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant writes, "While everyone else is debating the all-too-real energy crisis, it’s good to see Democrats are obsessing over hypothetical political match-ups. The DNC is having fun with Washington parlor games, but the rest of the nation is debating the merits of McCain’s ‘all-of-the-above’ energy plan versus Obama’s ‘inflate-your-tires’ approach."

“Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Virginia, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.”
As a Democrat, I’d be thrilled to see him pick any of those people.
Cantor is an absolute moron, the guy who insisted Congress had no constitutional role in declaring war, when it’s the only branch with that role.
Crist would be great, in that it’d be interesting to see a gay man on the Republican ticket.
Fiorina’s claim to fame is driving Hewlett Packard into the ground, making it lose 70% of its stock value before she was fired.
Pawlenty is a wet blanket with no appeal, period.
Romney is the only Republican who’s flip-flopped more often on more important issues than John McCain.
Man, is there any way McCain could get *all* of these people on his ticket? Please?

This looks more like Moveon smear instead of the DNC. Are they one in the same? With every potential vp candidate they listed a “negative” but what the ad doesn’t say is that if all the negatives on each potential candidate were added together that they would not equal Obamas negatives, his associations, his inexperience and his downright pandering tactics. Sorry Moveon, er DNC, your add is a farce.

More mud slinging by the Obama campaign – I thought he was a NEW kind of POL? Looks like the Harvard Lawyer was lieing, yet again. Trust is not an Obama Trait. A few words taken from Barrack Obama’s first resume.

Please keep in mind, that both candidates are not in complete control of the messages getting out there. There are a number of interests from private organizations to their respective parties — to us — who are campaigning in various ways without the candidates’ permissions.

Looks like the mud slings both ways. You all are a sad lot.. slaves to a two-party system because you’ve been programmed that voting for any other party is a ‘waste’ of time.
Well, keep up the ‘good work’. Just remember that we might have a ‘happy’ one party system soon if we’re not careful.

Current Republicans are very close to proving Mr. Abe Lincoln wrong. Abe’s famous quote about “fooling all of the people” etc. may not apply because the current administration and McCain’s efforts show some of the all of the republicans can be fooled all of the time.

At first I thought TheNextCheney would refer to McCain himself as just another aged and ill, short-sighted oil industry toady and sycophant that thinks inside the box of Imperial America circa 1950.
It’s just a shame that we won’t see on RNC TV the visage of Sen McCain all full of youth and vigor fearsomely projected on a dias of enormous sound and flame exclaiming “Pay No Attention to the Man Behind the Curtain” as the curtain draws back. It just completes the picture.

The Republican field of talent is just not there. It is bad when you have to send the Vice-President to his room and keep him out of the public eye. Cheney’s ego will not allow him to see that his personal greed and superiority complex has destroyed his party. The Republican campaign slogan is “I am not one of those!” what a disgrace.

I don’t think it matters what the DNC does now. I am one person who would have voted Democrat that is sick of them too. Chirs, it’s not even that to me. If he wants to be a Republican, more power to him but the misleading negative attacks are what sadden me. I feel he has been talked down this road by those manipulating him and running his campaign. It has become win at all costs just like many campaigns in the past. When push came to shove he folded like a lawnchair. Telling America that Obama had no foreign olicy ability and then complaining that he was abroad. Condemning a speech Germany as something a candidate shouldn’t do after he gave speeches in Canada and Columbia. Saying 200,000 Germans waiving American flags and cheering is a bad thing as if the alternative of our NATO allies not liking us is a better alternative. Not being able to compete on issues so putting out that silly Spears/Hilton ad. The complaint about the tire pressure statement which was an answer to a question from the audience on “What can I do today to save gas?” I guess McCain’s answer is dig in your backyard and hope you hit oil. The complete misrepresentation and lies of the Moses/Jesus ad. The man shows no leadership qualities AND he ran his campaign into bankruptcy last summer. Not exactly what I am looking for in president.

Well what I think this implies is that Cheney’s record as a VP has been one of not playing by the rules. And if you believe all of “What Happened” by Scott McClellan, it points to Cheney as more of a culprit than the president in being deceptive to the American people. So I don’t think this is as funny as some would make it. It almost plays as a warning to McCain to watch who he picks as a running mate. Maybe one of the criteria when someone is vetted is that the potential running mate should not be too closely linked with the president or vice-president. It’s reasonable considering the “popularity” of the current administration.

True Republican, and Regan Democrat voters are “conservative”. We are honest hard working American’s who want an America that is both Economically, and Militarily strong. We want Government that in honest and acts with integrity, restraint and compassion both domestically and abroad. We want the interests of Big Buisness and the financial sectors balanced against those of labor and the poor. We want to be proud of our government’s actions both at home and in far away lands. We believe in human rights, and yet recognize the limits of our ability and authority to impose our values on the citizens and Governments of other nations. We believe in fiscal responsibility and small government, but that must not be confused with believing in no national Debt, no Taxes, and no regulation of industry and the markets. Some of us do not believe in “Free Trade” but we all believe in “Fair Trade”. We all believe in America and American’s first. The Republican party under Bush, Cheney and especially Carl Rove have abandoned every thing we “Republican Voters” believe in. They have betrayed our principles and in so doing they have betrayed us plus our future, and the Conservative cause! As a registered Republican I will vote a straight Democratic ticket in November. I may not like Liberals and I do not believe in their political philosophies, but I will take a Liberal over a liar and a pandering graft collecting political prostitute any day!

Way to go DNC, isn’t this the same party that last week elected to go on summer vacation instead of debate on the energy bill proposal and vote on it like they promised to before this session let out. Way to go, something that might have actually started to help truly lower energy prices and they go home for vacation, because apparently vacations are more important than the average American citizen getting crushed by fuel prices. Another couple of months of nothing getting done while the countries of the world that hate us getting richer and richer from oil proceeds, brilliant. Of course if it involved illegal immigrants, gay marriage, or things that really matter, they would have stayed.

Amazing. McCain runs from Cheney (the sitting VP) because of fears Dems will show a link between the two. What about Obama’s links and friendship with convicted terrorists Bill Ayers and his lovely terror of a wife Bernie Dohrn? Have we come so far in American politics that being friends with a sitting VP is more shameful than befriending terrorists. But, of course, if the R’s bring this up, it will be labled racist somehow.

Obama`s only two campaign tactics appear to be smear and me-tooism, both of which he perfected in his campaign`s against two woman, first in his Ill. Sen. race then in his primaries race against Hillary. The Obama whiners can save their breath issuing denials that “Obama never said it.” The whole world knows that Obama always makes his supporters say the bad things so that when it backfires they can take the fall. And, we all know that as its Party leader, Obama controlls the DNC. Obama is right when he keeps saying that some will say a vote for him is risky for our country, because that is true. His me-too on off-shore drilling appears to be a trick he learned from John Kerry, “I was against it (too) before I was for it” But, didn`t Obama accuse McCain of flip flopping on off-shore drilling?
Posted by: Luke | August 5, 2008, 11:04 am 11:04 am
It’s unfortunate that the DNC has now turned to boldface lies and misrepresentation. Take their info on Mitt Romney for instance. They indicate that Mitt Romney has flip-flopped positions to support Cheney/Bush by citing an old quote by Romney and then contradicting it with a newer quote, but with respect to the mismanagement of the war, they start with a newer quote, that the war was mismanaged and then compare it to older quote saying that he wouldn’t second guess Bush/Cheney, implying that he changed his position to support Bush/Cheney, when really he moved to say the war was mismanaged. If someone reading that was not paying close attention to the details, they would be misled (and I would say intentionally so by the DNC) to think Romney does not now believe the war was mismanaged, when that is in fact the more recent quote. Dirty pool.
They also say that Romney increased the state budget each year, which, although true, is misleading. The increase each year was well within a generally acceptable inflation range, 3-5% per year. What, does the DNC want us to believe that inflation does not exist? Newsflash: Prices go up each year. I guess they need an economics refresher course.

Nor will the MSM report on the interview with Colorado’s Gov. Bill Ritter’s radio interview that he wasn’t experienced enough to be VP. He said he only had 18 months being Governor. A caller asked, “Obama has only 143 days in the Senate, why would he be qualified?” Good question I thought. Ritters’ answer was, “you just need to meet him”. Well, dang! But then McCain sold his soul to Karl Rove for a chance at POTUS. McCain began his alignment with Bush last year by voting with Bush 95% of the time. In 2006, McCain voted with Bush only 60% of the time. McCain 2008 is not the McCain of 2000. Last summer I thought I could live with McCain because he was different. But he sold out and it shows.
I find it REALLY disturbing that McCain would cozy up to the very man that disparged his daughter during the 2000 South Carolina Primary. Guess McCain would rather win an election and honor his daughter.

No WAIT!!! That’s the DNC’s doing already!!! Yeah, Cheney is getting rid of all the homeless around the convention center! No, wait, the DNC has already done that!! I’m sure Cheney has already taken $10 million from the DNC! NO, wait!!! The DNC is already in debt for spending on WHO KNOW’s WHAT? That’s right, it was evil Cheney with McCain’s help!! That’s it! McCain is just like Cheney – he changed his position on offshore drilling when he was offered a boatload of money by Bil Oil. He’s going to let the multinational energy corporations write our national energy policy just like Cheney did in 2001.
Posted by: chattyway | Aug 5, 2008 12:00:04 PM
—————————————-So is Obama, He voted for Bush’s energy policy. He is much more like Bush than McCain is. You all choose not to see that part of him.

“My favorite part of the website was: Carly Fiorina?
Fiorina called the overseas out-sourcing of American jobs
“right-shoring.”"
He needs to dump her. The queen of off-shoring. They love her in India.

To put forward an ad that says McCain is just like Cheney is like comparing Obama to Hitler. Hitler was a great speaker and his followers believed his every word until it was too late. The Obama campaign is now getting desperate and stupid since he keeps going down in the polls.

Oh…lets get this straight… McCain can run funny ads and be sooo sooo stupid but if Obama does it, then it is bad. Shameful… get a life people. I say Obama starts playing the political games, I say bring it on Obama, I will still vote for you, after all the Repubs have been treating us like jokes for 8 years now, anything you say or do will be a vacation.

Lets see the Obama/Pelosi sent over their hit group Moveon to protest the Republicans trying to bring down our oil prices!
I love how you libs that call yourselves Dems are so blinded and ignorant that you do not see the Marxist Obama Flipping and Flailing all over the place!
the Dems are sending 700 Billion dollars to the other countries to buy oil when we could be spending it here for our people to drill and get jobs!!
While the elitist libs like Obama and Pelosi take a vacation while American poor and middle class suffer and can not afford to go on vacation.
oil companies make 9cents on a gallon of gas, Government makes upto 70 cents on a gallon
Oil can be drilled within a year off our shores and withing 5 from ANWAR – more oil than all the middle east combined
But thanks DNC if McCain is that close to Cheney he now has 1000% of my support.
The DNC denounce Cheney but no facts no clue do they have!!
Democrats are dangerous for this Country, they will enslave all as they did in the past!!

“Carly Fiorina is widely regarded as one of the worst CEOs in recent memory..”
Only by the people who didn’t watch the HP performance based on her initiatives.
Fiorina was a good CEO. She is a bad geek.
Outsourcing works if you outsource the right functions. As it turns out, outsourcing your programming staff is a bad idea. Outsourcing your help desk is a bad idea. The short terms gains are outweighed in six quarters by the decline in responsiveness due to communications problems. Process design and internet communications can’t fix the cultural gaps and the serendipity of co-located teams.
Much also depends on the team environment. If you are in a company paying vig to the hedge fund investors or a leveraged buy out, bail. There is no up from that.

“len – no. she was a bad CEO – no need to make excuses, since her disasterous record speaks for itself.”
I’m not making excuses. You are calling her names. Check the facts of the performance based on her initiatives, specifically, Compaq.
She was a good CEO. She had a bad board. Look at the post-Fiorina scandal for their use of call forging and bugging. You didn’t pay attention to what happened after she was asked to resign.

McCain shifted his position on offshore drilling when he saw that ever-increasing gas prices were crippling our economy and severely hurting working Americans.
Obama flipflopped on offshore drilling when the polls showed him that 70% of Americans were for it and that he was rapidly falling in the polls.
McCain is a leader; Obama is a follower.

No, McCain flipped when big oil promised hefty donations to the campaign. McCain flipped and they filled out the checks.

Hey all you loser Bush supporters why is it that no other Republican wants to be seen with Bush and Cheney? Only that crook Stevens wants to be seen with Bush! I think Cheney should wear a Darth Vader outfit complete with a light saber at the GOP convention, that would be appropiate.

Heard that billionaire NYC Mayor Bloomberg is on the short VP list for both Dem and GOP is that true?
That Bloomberg works for international bankers and financiers whose interest is to maintain wealth in worldwide collapsing economies and therefore need to privatize (steal) government programs, infrastructure and jobs?
That is what Bloomberg has been doing to NYC in the past 8 years?
And Al Gore is another one of their employees ready to do the same job once installed as Dem Prez while Bloomberg as VP for either party?
Have you heard too?

The Republican party is responsible for high gas prices.
The Republican party is the party of big oil.
McCain is a Republican.

NextCheney.com…that’s really hysterical. He is a tough act to follow.
The nerve of Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant, “While everyone else is debating the all-too-real energy crisis, it’s good to see Democrats are obsessing over hypothetical political match-ups. The DNC is having fun with Washington parlor games.”
Excuse me but his party is infamous for the past 2 weeks’ buzz over the Britany, Obama, Paris Hilton, Moses, ads. I know people think Americans has short term memory problems but this is unbelievable.

francine223 – that would be great news. I’ve lived here in New York since 1966 and Mayor Bloomberg is the best Mayor I’ve ever seen. I wish he would run for President because he is truly the kind of man that America needs now.

We need to know answers to many questions about Obama. How close was his relationship to communist Frank Marshall Davis when he was a teen in Hawaii (Obama’s book says very close – we need details)? How close was Obama to Marxist terrorists Ayers and Doerhn? If Obama says not close, we need an answer as to why his political career was launched in Ayer’s living room. Why did Obama decide to go to Chicago after graduating college? Was it because Davis was from Chicago originally? How did it happen that Obama became an Alinsky type community organizer in Chicago, just like Davis once was? Did Davis initiate the relationship between Obama and Ayers? All of these important questions and many others need to be answered. Why is the media ignoring them???

lol – Obama was against off-shore drilling before he was against it. No. He is still against it, but understands the need for compromise in order to move our country forward. I will admit that it’s too bad that so many Americans are so selfish and/or ignorant to think that we can rely on petrol for energy ad infinitum and that drilling will make any significant difference. The only criteria that republicans have for president is that he be as dumb as they so they can feel better about themselves. Shame.

jock 59801 Well, he’s still leading in the polls, and that’s really all that matters, isn’t it?
Are you kidding me?? What the heck do the polls have to do with anything in the GE. If 50% of the voters for Obama are located in one state it would mean NOTHING! This is not a popularity contest by any means. It is interesting that the two candidates are running neck & neck but the election can go either. Those that follow the polls and get excited by a point or two change will be in for a rude awakening on election day.
