Wolfson: Biden Is Second-Best Pick Obama Could Make
Howard Wolfson — the former adviser to Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and current blogger at Gotham Acme — writes in The New Republic that with the exception of his former boss, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., couldn’t have picked a better running mate than Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del.
That’s because Biden shores up some glaring Obama weaknesses, Wolfson suggests.
“The fighting in Georgia underscored the need to bring some foreign policy experience to the ticket,” Wolfson writes. “No one does that better than Biden. Absent the situation in Georgia, Virginia Governor Kaine might have been the pick — in effect Vladimir Putin vetoed him.”
Nice line, Wolfie.
Wolfson says, “Obama also needs to improve his performance with lunch bucket and working class Democrats. Biden has spent his career appealing to those voters — he literally commutes on the train every day to work — and is very good at rhetorically delivering the old-time Democratic religion.”
Wolfson does note that Biden “won’t automatically bring along disaffected Hillary voters, especially those who are older women. But no one was going to do that besides Hillary anyway…”

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
No question that Hillary’s strongest supporters are rabidly pro-Hillary at the expense of the party. That’s too bad. But, I think that they are wearing blinders when it comes to the question of Hillary’s appeal to a broader spectrum of voters. She’s hobbled by her association with a pretty despicable character — her husband. I’ve got no problem with Hillary (except her seeming inability to rid herself of that creep), but her husband is an albatross and it is stupid to pretend otherwise. His presidency was a terrible disappointment, and his behavior even more so. It mystifies me, to this day, why she didn’t throw him out. Why on earth should Obama be compelled to taint his administration with the history of bad behavior and scandal that follows the Clintons? Whatever assets Hillary would bring to the ticket, she brings one huge liability — her husband.

I am a Hillary supporter who is very happy with Biden.
Biden is Irish-Catholic, so maybe Chris Matthews and the other Irish-Catholic blowhards at at MSNBC will be nice to him.

It’s time to stop threatening Hillary supporters. Like it or not, Biden didn’t win the popular vote in the primaries. Hillary did.
Today after all of the claims about the blowout, a “71 year old wrinkly dude” has Obama in a dead tie with less than 90 days to the election. Next week, weather permitting, Obama will put on another spectacle like Berlin and if the numbers in the polls didn’t make it clear to the left, they are the only ones impressed by spectacle.
Want to win? Explain to the fixed income seniors how Obama will take care of their heating bills this January on day one, or the day after.

After all these weeks, it’s still hard to believe that so-called Democrats still can’t get behind Obama and now Biden. Every intelligent Democrat of national stature has thrown his/her weight behind Obama and that includes foreign policy experts, economists, abortion rights activists and everyone in between–and your beloved Hillary. There is even a growing number of Republicans who aren’t attending their national convention because they want to distance themselves from McCain/Bush. But not YOU–you Democrats who hold a grudge–you’re smarter than all of them and you’re just not going to vote for someone like Obama. You “feel” more comfortable with McCain, he’s like us, he makes you “feel” secure with all that experience. Forget the fact that with all the “experience” Bush/Cheney brought to the White House they created this mess that we’re all trying to get out of–from Iraq to the mortgage meltdown to the gas crisis. Get a brain and vote your principles if you have the nerve to call yourself a Democrat. There aren’t two things that McCain and Bush disagree on, so if you’re happy with Bush you’ll love and deserve McCain should he win and you can keep on whining about the lousy state of affairs we’re in for another four years instead of trying to make some real changes.

This is such a horrible pick for the democrats. What state will Biden bring to the table? Delaware all of 3 electoral college votes.(Ha)
Posted by: TO | August 23, 2008, 11:38 am 11:38 am
Right-wing extremists would laugh at anyone Obama selected. That is their tactic: use sarcasm and personal attacks to avoid having to debate real issues. Biden offers experience, foreign policy expertise, and is formidable in a debate context. McCain’s VP decision is now much more important with the debates looming on the horizon. But Clinton fans must get behind Biden’s nomination or else you will see four more years of Bush-policies, and is that worth standing your ground? Senator Clinton will support Obama-Biden, you need to mobilize to do the same thing.

As a former 30 years democrat. Hello President McCain.
Posted by: TO | August 23, 2008, 11:40 am 11:40 am
It is becoming painfully clear that the Clintons and a great number of their advisors, staff, and everyday supporters, are willing to put their own political interests ahead of the needs of the country. They are themselves willing to hurt the country with four more years of Republican control, in order to merely have a chance to win the White House for themselves down the road. Even though by that time many of the problems we face will be worse, and America will have fallen even further behind our global competitors in terms of developing alternative energy and new cutting edge technologies. America is squandering our historical advantages. We can’t wait four more years to get started.

len the vp choice is not about popular vote bologne
it is about the President picking the person whio will be most effective in that position
anyway you slicce it the most effective person …
or the person that ahs the most effect on the actualposition is Joe Biden
hands down far and away….
Hillary may have a lott fo hearts (second only to Obama) as a leader…
but the person that is most effective in the position (the guy who has the most knowledge…the most done in washington in the last 6 motnhs with a broken congress that no one has been able to get anything done with…and the guy who out of all the officials in washington probably knows what it like to be a family that loses everything in an economic down) is Joe Biden
he mau not indspire…but he sure does know how to work for the American people.
not to mention we have no idea what was said between he and Hillary in that private meeting.

Let’s face it, Bill Clinton lost the election and VP slot for Hillary. He is a time bomb ready to explode anytime and Obama could not afford to have a VP’s husband backstabbing him.
No one “stole” this election from her but herself. Biden was his best choice given the circumstances
Posted by: formerhillary | August 23, 2008, 11:47 am 11:47 am
Do you not think that Hillary Clinton could put a muzzle on her advisers and staff (like Wolfson) if she really wanted to? Either she’s not being decisive enough, which calls into her question her executive leadership skills (as described in the Atlantic article), or she’s simply allowing them to repeatedly say these sorts of undermining statements, which suggests that she is continuing her own presidential campaign for 2012 through her surrogates. Or at least that she is hedging her bets, which is equally unflattering.
Posted by: Gene L | August 23, 2008, 11:48 am 11:48 am
With the pick, Obama shores up the folks who were going to vote for him, but he gave the Hillary voters the brush off, he didn’t reach outside Washington or the liberal wing. Biden will win the vp debate, but so did Bentsen in 1988. We’ll see but I still think that outside of Hillary, to win the election he needed someone like Bayh.
Posted by: hopesprings52 | August 23, 2008, 11:48 am 11:48 am
the wrost thing about this is how blind some of these people are to the fact that Clinton would lose her senate seat if obama lost…
especially as people start to put the two and two together that caroline Kennedy is getting ready to run…and either Obama wins and she moves to MA and runs there for her uncle’s seat…
or New Yorkers may decide if obama loses and there is enough anger…and they see Caroline wanting to run somewhere…
and even if a quarter of the dems are upset and blame Hillary at all for Obama losing (right or wrong some will think that…and to some extent they do have a point)
she was going to probably lose…
don’t get mad that is just the status quo…
and then you thrwo in the possibility of Kennedy taking over a seat …and New yorkers wanting her to run in NY and not MA…
the bottom line is Hillary needs Obama to win…
we ALL need obama to win to keep Hillary in the senate (or sec of state) and add Kennedy to the mix with Clinton…
we should be adding women …not taking them away

It is for this very reason, the fact that the people that I share this very country with, like yourself, can’t get past looking at a woman for HERSELF alone, is why I will not vote in the sexism again and continue to be a Hillary Supporter. You said it yourself, ‘You’ve got no problem with Hillary’. Well GOOD! Because SHE was running for President, NOT her husband! Who cares about her husband?!! She is a person of her own merits and it’s about time this country take off it’s biased goggles and realize where the sexism is coming from-YOURSELF! Obama is over. Let’s hope as personal of a decision as it is…
Hill divorces Bill and becomes the leader she can be… on her own.
Whatever you say about his presidency and how much he gave ehr to be able to run…
that is the thing with all of this
I think a lot of anger is displaced from the doublie image frustration of people feeling like Hillary got screwed over by Bill…
and now they are reformulating this in their heads to make Obama somehow another part of that …
you know here is a woman who lived her life around a man and here she comes finally getting something for all that time she stood by him and then she loses… to another man… who is younger and it must seem like they stole her place in line…
but that is not true.
She needs to divorce Bill hook up with Obama and Biden and show the country what she is as a leader as part of a team…in her own right.
and maybe in 2016…she will be the person to step inafter when Biden does not want to run.

The Clintons ought to form the Clinton party so they can continue to promote themselves. Their narcisism and the blind following of their supporters who enablers of their narcisism is extemely unsightly. It reminds me of the arrogance of GWB and his similar following who enabled his disastorous presidency.

Biden would have been a superb Sec. of State, but he just doesn’t fill in any gaps on the electoral map. The VP had to be a white, Catholic male but I’m not convinced that Biden can expand Obama’s reach to average working folk. We’ll see how it plays where it counts, in PA, OH, Virginia and the Midwest.

I think we need women all over on the second tier.
That was the problem this time around.
THERE are not enough women across the second tier from every aspect of race and culture. Period.
It’s sheer statistics and odds.
Chances are that a bigger pool on the second tier makes the chances that the RIGHT PERSON for the job will be better if you are dealing with a more equally divided pool.
We are not even close to that.
Kennedy already has the name …the knowledge of the “dealings” …the brains…the respect… just as Clinton did.
More women need to run for state office.
and that is happening but until it equals out in congress and cabinets…
so yuo can either deride a woman because she comes from the political establishment …whether she is nice or not…
or you can support any good candidate who has a hankering and the ability to run.
Instead of making snide remarks against oone aspect of their lives.

Watch Hillary give one of those great speeches at the convention bringing the Democrats together for Obama/Biden for the stretch run against McCain. For those who are not aboard then – The ship is leaving. Democrats are moving on courting Republicans and Independents for the stretch run against McCain. Look for endorsements that may surprise Voters and change news cycle. Maria Shriver convinces Arnold to vote for Obama? Fox news then attacks kind compassionate Terminator and loses? d is right the numbers show if Obama loses Hillary’s win in NY was not big enough for her to have a stupendous uphill battle from the fall out from this election.
She’s not dumb she knows that.
Obviously there are a lot fo people who are not smart enough to know that.
or they just don’t care…they are angry and they want their revenge.
Problem is when right and wrong are in front of you…acting on that revenge at Hillary, the country, women’s issues, the issues in general, kids, etc
all suffer…
Voting out of anger, revenge and spite blindly…at the expense of the supposed candidate and issues you supported…is not something to be proud of.

It amazes me that Obama’s pick of a Kerryite, “politics as usual”, Biden, is not upsetting his supporters. He is a little hypocrite. It wouldn’t matter if Jesus was his running mate he would never get the Hillary supporters to vote for him. And, if he picked Hillary Clinton, that wouldn’t sweeten the deal either.

For those that are upset that Obama didn’t choose Hillary and feel she was snubbed. First of all you have no idea what is going on with the 2 of them. Maybe she didn’t want the VP spot, why would she. I’m sure she and Obama have discussed what position she would have in his administration. Maybe she wants to be a justice. The fact is you don’t know what is going on behind closed doors. So to be upset over something you know nothing about is foolish and ignorant.

I am not sure if I am ready for 2 liberal politicians on the ticket. How sad that Obama was pressured in this pick by the big wigs of the DNC.

Once again the male ego has gotten in the way of success. After months of listening to “Old Politics”, Obama picks the poster child for old politics. With 13 to 20 percent of swing and independent voters undecided, I wonder how this will pan out. Especially since the majority of those voters are female. Not only did Biden come in 5th out of 6 dems in the primary, he’s the reflection women see when they look up at that glass ceiling. If McCain picks Rice as VP it could be disasterous for the dems.

This is just another example of how he constantly flip flops his position. His whole campaign has been about bringing change to Washington and how politics is run, but he goes back on it by choosing a man who has been in Washington for the majority of his life! I mean he chose a man who has not one, but two failed presidential campaigns, and the most recent one he dropped out after the first state. Plus, he has been saying all along how old McCain is and how out of touch that makes him, but he chooses a man that is just as old!

I don’t really think that Hillary ever had the vice-presidency in mind. I think that Biden is probably the best choice Senator Obama could have made if it wasn’t going to be Hillary.
I like Joe Biden and have now decided that an Obama/Biden ticket would be better than a McCain/??? ticket. My hopes were it would be Hillary to lead the country but apparently that’s not going to happen.

Hillary Clinton could have made a sure-fire winning ticket for BHO. McCain could not have defeated an Obama-Clinton combination.
Now we’re back to Square One, with Obama and McCain being pretty much equal in popularity. So it’s up to McCain to pick a potentially winning V.P. candidate. If he’s smart, he will coose Romney.
If he makes the choice as badly as he has run his campaign so far, McCain will choose an unknown or worse: Huckabee.

Big Al:
You’re pushing hard on the Keating 5 but showing your ignorance. 3 Democrats were found guilty of misconduct but McCain was found innocent of any misconduct whatsoever.
The Ethics Committee ruled that the involvement of McCain in the scheme was also minimal, and he too was cleared of all charges against him.[17][16] McCain was criticized by the Committee for exercising “poor judgment” when he met with the federal regulators on Keating’s behalf.[6] The report also said that McCain’s “actions were not improper nor attended with gross negligence and did not reach the level of requiring institutional action against him….Senator McCain has violated no law of the United States or specific Rule of the United States Senate.”[20]

2)If Mccain wins in 2008 in such a toxic political situation, what are the reasons Mccian will not win in 2012…
3)If Hillary cult do vote for Mccain and Mccain picks judges who overturns Roe Vs Wade, that will be jutice for all who follows Hillary cult..

Now that the other half of the ticket is known, all of the rabid fans screaming “Hillary 2012″ are showing their true colors. They call themselves “democrats,” but they have always been closet Republicans who have a visceral disdain for Obama, calling him an “empty suit” without ever taking the time to really know about the man, his programs and his vision for America. If they are into introspection, they should start asking themselves whether their political stubborness is not rooted in some undesirable feelings that no honorable person is ready to admit nowadays.
If they truly believe that defeating Obama is Clinton’s sure way to get to the White House in 2012, they might be in for a rude awakening. As we all know, four years in politics is a lifetime. Considering that they will surely reap what they are now sowing, this means that there will be hell to pay in 2012. Please keep in mind that the kind of devilish thoughts and schemes that are fueling the anti-Obama movement will not turn into Clinton’s favor. Sure, Nixon and his gang did run Muskie out of town in 1968, but they did not take the prize all the way to heaven, did they? Voters, beware.

Charles, there is so much baloney circulating about Obama that it’s hard to know what’s true and what’s propaganda.
However, even after weeding out the ridiculous stuff, the more we know about Obama the better Old Man McCain looks… warts and all.
There are enough facts about Obama that the extreme right does NOT have to INVENT fiction about him. Once everyone learns who this fellow is, the less likely he is to become President. Telling lies about him is unnecessary.

Rozefort- people are trying to get to know him as a person and his policies, but you can’t when he fails to mention any plans all throughout the primaries and then when he gets the nomination he keeps flip-flopping. His platform may be change for the better, but that could also go towards his positions.

When PUMA first showed up online I was all for it, because I admire Hillary Clinton, always will. But to my horror I saw the organization morph into a mob of rabid protesters. The talk was big and threats were harsh. I also saw the infiltration of cloaked Republicans posing as Democrats, obvious through their efforts to destroy Obama and the DNC, and steer those hapless Hillary supporters to John McCain. I was totally horrified. A kind of panic set in. However, in the last three weeks or so, many accredited sources have been showing up on the internet with excellent debunks of PUMA, backed up with verifiable data. What a relief! I came to realize that this group is small and isolated and has no legitimate backers other than Republicans.

Hey, Hilarians for McCain. If Obama loses to McCain in November because of your defection from the Democratic party, and if it is clear that this defection was largely because of your gender bias, I would be inclined to NEVER vote for a woman for president. (And I have quite a lot of elections to go.) I would ordinarily respect and look forward to having a woman president, and I think Hillary is great. But policy-wise, this behavior of yours right now is nothing short of selfish, and pretty naive at that. I refuse to reward that selfishness. Hope you can look yourselves in the mirror every morning for four years of such a McCain administration, thinking about what you did, before you pick up the morning newspaper.

I think Hillary Clinton’s supporters are being childish and petulant in saying that since Obama did not pick Hillary, they will vote for John McCain. That’s the height of stupidity I think! You are like children who sulk when you do not get what you want! What do you think the presidential election is for? Why can’t you free yourself from your personal prejudice and see that it is your future and the future of your country that is at stake here! The way I see it, McCain cannot empathize with the difficulties that many Americans are undergoing now because he doesn’t know what it is like to be short of money! And look at how he reacted to the crisis in Georgia! He says things without thinking hard first! He acts tough against Russia, but would the US at this time be able to wage another war when US is also at war in Iraq and Afghanistan? You cannot be at war in all fronts!

I am amazed at the ignorance of those who insist we support Obama at all costs. Why should we? Because we belong to the Democratic Party? If that is truly your only reason to support this man, that is pathetic. Its not up to Hillary Clinton to lead us to Obama. Its up to Obama to earn our respect, our confidence, and our vote. And he isn’t doing it. We didn’t support Hillary because she was a Democrat, we didn’t support her because she was a woman, we supported her because she truly was the most knowledgeable, and the best candidate. Like her or not, the woman is brilliant. She had every policy down pact, and how she would pay for it. She had what it takes. And beside her Obama looked like the novice that he is, and he appears to be lacking. I don’t care for his 200,000 people crowds, in fact I find that alarming. The spectacle in Berlin I found embaressing, especially when I learned that there was a free rock concert and beer festival right before his appearance. I want a President who can communicate in an honest, forthright, simple way, not a Baptist preacher, I can get that in church on Sunday. So here it is very simply put. Its not the message, its the messenger. Its not vote Dem or Republican, its who do you trust, who do you like, and who can you live with for the next 4 years. Answer: John McCain.

The point is to instill a certain amount of confidence in the voters sweetie! Admitting that you don’t know anything about it and then yesterday having your brother admit that it’s the women of their families that have been in charge of the finances does not instill confidence in the American people! McCain/Biden…..in his own words!

Experience, experience experience, that’s all we here nowadays, I’d remind people that George Bush has experience, he’s been on the job for 8 years, is that what you want? McCain is experienced, BAD experience, he’s part of what’s wrong with the country. He helped make the decisions that have HARMED us, is his experience any better than Bush’s? No, it isn’t.

No more mantra of change.
NO more accusations of same old Washington politics.
no more insults of “old wrinkled white guy”
no more accusation of being in lobbyists pockets
no more insisting that Obama has experience.
goodness, what WILL Obama talk about now in his long winded boring speechs? His entire platform is out the window! But, that’s no surprise, he has thrown everyone else under the bus to get what he wants, why not throw his platform down there too!
LOL! Can you say Titanic loss in Nov?
President McCain….maverick, hero, patriot

Here comes Hillary. The only things that Obama has proven are: 1) he is about politics as usual, 2) he obviously does not think he has sufficient depth to be commander-in-chief, so he needs someone stronger than himself, 3) he is attempting to guarantee that two males occupy the White House for the 44th occasion of such occupancy. Where’s the change?

It is amusing watching young voters try and substantiate their vote for BO. They have absolutely NO CLUE.

Why can’t Obama help out his Kenyan half siblings? Let’s get cameras over there and interview them, instead of that half sister in Hawaii. You’d think he could have given some of that money he saved on his Rezko deal house, he could have sent some $$ their way.

Here is some international perspective, unwanted as it is by the majority of navel-gazing Americans who prefer to live insular lives. This election offers you two stark choices. Elect an aggressive fear-mongering, neo-con advised septuagenarian and watch the world abandon any lingering respect for the formerly great country of America. Or elect a bright, articulate man who has shown the wisdom to consider all aspects of a situation, excellent organizational and leadership skills and the ability to move the political conversation out of the gutter. If however the average American continues to focus on what they don’t want (ie. what they fear) they will never get what they do want (healthy communities, international respect, and a prosperous economy with a smaller gap between the rich and the poor. Isn’t that what you want? Or do you want the Chinese to bankrupt your nation by calling in the enormous debt that the Republicans have created; more evidence of their bold-faced lying ways.
Ahh but I fear I waste my time… Your average Republican voter seems to lack the ability to think critically, preferring instead to throw about libelous claims and bereft of factual content. Go on, keep fiddling while your country continues it’s steady decline. It is a sad thing for such a promising country but you have let unscrupulous men decide your fate for too long…

SWMissouri,
I suppose you were backing Biden when Biden was saying that Obama was not qualified to be commander-in-chief? Also, were you behind Biden a few years back when he got drummed out of his prior run for Presidency for plaigirism? Oh, yeah, I forgot, Obama did the same thing with Deval Patrick’s speeches. It’s all just words, just words, and Biden has a lot of them. Fact is, Obama was corraled into this pick by the right, and he shows no courage by making it. I’m going to hold my nose on vote for Obama/Biden, but my gut feeling is that now he is toast. Everything he has claimed to stand for has been sweepingly dismissed with this single decision. Biden and federal lobbyists. Biden and Washington insider. Biden and same old politics. Replace the word Biden with Obama, and that is where we now stand. Bye bye.

you make it seem so cut and dry, and its not. you have obviously been falling for all the hope and change talk from obama. like i said, im not a huge fan of john mccain. and im not a big fan of the republicans as of late either. but its just not that cut and dry man. im not sure where you are from, but you just dont realize the bigger picture. obama just puts on a “happier face” when he spouts off with ridiculous ideas. what he talks about is socialism. plain and simple. whether its what you call “fear mongering” on global warming, telling us what to set our thermostats at, why its americans fault we waste so much gas (tire inflation), telling us he will punish big oil and big business (people with knowledge on it refer to it as stealing), telling us the government will be in charg of our health care,or basically anything he talks about. but, since he is charasmatic, and a young, charming guy, its ok. the guy wants the goverment to control every aspect of the american peoples lives. now tell me, whats more scary and un american than that?

Why is socialism such a bad thing? I’ve noticed it is used disparagingly in American and have never understood why. After all the top 5 countries in the world to live in are all somewhat socialist, while countries that embrace free market capitalism are plagued by huge gaps between rich and poor, lack of healthcare for those who need it most, and the relinquishing of control over basic services that we all rely on. Not to mention corporate influence on government. How on earth is this a good thing? The lists vary but the USA is NEVER at the top, rather countries like Norway, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Canada consistently beat the USA at “quality of life”. You have been brainwashed to believe that America is the best there can be and hence lean towards the parochial and antiquated views of MCain. All very quaint but there is no place for shallow ethnocentric views in the 21st century. Tradition is the illusion of permanence. We need new ways of thinking, even if they smack of socialism. The role of government is to look after those least able to care for themselves, which is diametrically opposed to the actions of the Republicans in recent years.
Posted by: Mike Robinson | August 23, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm
ok rodney, lol the whole airing up tires will save more than drilling did it. hey i have an idea… why dont we let the government “oversee” that all americans inflate their tires correctly on a, oh lets just sa a weekly basis (stiff penalties for those who dont do it by the way), and drill for oil at the same time!!! wow, two common sense answers combined right?! i mean, if we can save more by infating our tires correctly than by drilling, if we drill as well we will make a HUUUUGE difference then right??!! wow…

ok rodney, let me simplify this for you i guess… who did you support as a canidate 15 months ago?
Posted by: tim | August 23, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm
tim since we cannot overcome the oil deficit by drilling and oil is sold on the world market -you and i personally will gain nothing—alternate fuels are the main answer—biodiesel will be my favorite as we can start producing immediately—money will stay in usa and all of us would benifit –oil has become a monopoly and is controlled by big oil and opec—they can shut our country down and cause kaos on a monumental scale.
you have talked to me before –hi

Posted by: rodney | August 23, 2008, 3:53 pm 3:53 pm
rodney..
i realize we’er talked before, just cant remember everyones views. first off, have you done any research on biofuels? not much out there that sounds promising. let me know something im missing on that one. as for drilling for our own oil is concerned, you dont think that reducing our dependency on foreign oil will have an effect on supply and demand?! i mean, we buy nearly 70 percent of our oil from foreign nations. thats ALOT of oil. im not an economist, but that would be a dramatic difference on the supply and demand on the global oil market. how will that NOT reduce oil prices. why do you think the gas prices have come down s of late? because of the demand dropping. thats not to mention the fact that WE WILL CONTINUE TO NEED OIL FOR DECADES. thats at best. you can listen to al gore or t boone all you want, its just not going to happen for awhile. so why WOULDNT we use our own resources AND work on alternative at the same time? isnt that just common sense??

I am sick and tired of Hillary supporters that are willing to vote for Sen. McCain because she lost to Sen. Obama. This is a question for Hillary supporters that are voting for Sen. McCain. Hillary and Obama have the same policies (90%) and McCain policies are 90 to 95% opposite of Hillary why would you want to vote for McCain when his policies are different from Hillary policies? Please do not say Obama is a fake, please give concrete answer. If you do not have any answer, please do us (true Democrats) a favor, Please SHUT UP!!!!! I am starting to believe that most of you on this blog are truly Republicans.

and rodney, please explain why the oil companies are to blame? opec i can understand, but what are the oil companies doing wrong?

the small percentage that we produce cannot have any effect on the world market–and unless we can become independant–we will be held in financial hostage forever—-do smme research on bio diesel—farmers in the midwest have been producing and using it for 30 to 40 years.you have heard of people using veggi oil –same thing and just that simple–and it will not affect the food supply.
Posted by: rodney | August 23, 2008, 4:03 pm 4:03 pm
tim
exxon sells on the world market-like all the others—-opec can slow down a little and there goes the prices again.
Posted by: rodney | August 23, 2008, 4:05 pm 4:05 pm
ahhhh now i remember, you’re the one that said veggie oil is our future… well, im not sure what “small amounts” of oil we have you are talking about but do the research on it. massive amounts, but anyways.. nice chatting
Posted by: tim | August 23, 2008, 4:05 pm 4:05 pm
i asked why the OIL COMPANIES are to blame rodney? what are they doing any different than any other big business in america? look at the profit margins… dont look at actual profit. you’re falling for the liberal agenda. actually look at their profit margin. they are just making record profits because the price is up glbally. no other reason.
Posted by: tim | August 23, 2008, 4:08 pm 4:08 pm
since the oil companies want the taxpayers to pay for offshore drilling–i think that the oil produced here should stay here and that the prices should be controlled by government—as there is no competitive market—the next four years will show you great strides toward independance in the energy field.wish i could save this and post four years from now.
Posted by: rodney | August 23, 2008, 4:09 pm 4:09 pm
ahhhhhh, i knew it was comming… you want the GOVERNMENT in control of the oil prices!!! why? because they do such a good job of controlling our money?! im not even going to get started…
Posted by: tim | August 23, 2008, 4:12 pm 4:12 pm
tim
i think our government is supposed to protect us from monopolys—–cost the arabs 2.00 per barrel to produce–a monopoly is not in our best interest–and the profits are obcene–and you and i are paying the price/
.

solar—wind power– nuclear–coal–natural gas–and some oil as long as it is from here—-being held hostage is not in our interest.
Posted by: rodney | August 23, 2008, 4:20 pm 4:20 pm
ok, so you want to power our vehicles with veggie oil, and everything else with one of the above… ok, ill go with that just for the sake of argument.. so what do we do in the meantime. you know, the next decade (at the VERY least). where do we get our oil from?

BIDEN: “I think that the only reason Clarence Thomas is on the Court is because he is black. I don’t believe he could have won had he been white. And the reason is, I think it was a cynical ploy by President Bush.”
It’s like being a racist is a resume enhancer in the Democratic party. Biden has made so many racist gaffes and look where he’s ended up.

I like Hillary, but I am happy with Biden. Because Biden is a white male, he can be tough without the media trying to put him in his place. If Obama is tough, they call him arrogant. When Hillary was tough, they called her a shrew and rhymes with witch.
But Biden can say what he wants and the Irish boys and MSNBC will love it. Just say “Scranton” and watch Chris Matthews get all warm and fuzzy.

nelissa: Hillary’s voters are going to vote McCain because they don’t like Obama and they don’t like big mouth Biden. Since Hillary is not the nominee they made the right choice by ignoring Obama and leaving him in the dust.

Jo Chgo: I am born and raised in Chicago also and feel the same way about Obama. He is as phony as a three dollar bill and as crooked. I can’t wait until Obama and Biden get into a disagreement because Biden is going to control no nothing do nothing say nothing Obama who don’t have the brains to sit on or a window to throw them out of. Obama can’t run this country, if elected it will be in name only and Biden will be making all the decisions. This country is going to be in the biggest mess ever if Obama is elected.

Krista: Biden was not on the foreign relations committee for thirty years and McCain knows just as much as Biden when it comes to war and foreign policy. When it comes down to the nitti gritty McCain can and will put Biden in his place. I don’t think that Biden has manners he is just has a big mouth.

Biden was telling it like it is. As an true African American– not one of those poser saying they are in comments online, Clarence Thomas was chosen to darken the bench. He is a sorry excuse for a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United State. Never once in his tenure has he lead the pack on any decision– he is a follower without a spine. Words like Uncle Tom come to mind
when someone mentions his name. He could never fill the shoe of his African American predecesor, Thurgood Marshall. Who consistently voted with the liberal block, became increasingly isolated as the court’s make-up changed, and he was forced by ill health to retire and see his seat taken by the conservative Clarence Thomas.
Bush’s appointment of CT as the replacement of a man who pioneered the fight for civil rights was disrepectful
to Marshall’s legacy of fighting for those who are powerless.
So I stand by Biden and his assessment of Clarence Thomas.

As a liberal-leaning independent, I’m not sold on Obama – and his VP pick of Biden only sealed-the-deal for me that all his talk of change is just fluff. Rather than feel stuck between a rock and a hard place with Obama vs. McCain – I’m casting my vote for Nader/Gonzalez. Good going Dems.

Second best pick sounds right. Would have loved Hillary and her selection would have honored a large part of the democratic party. I can see where she would have overshadowed him. Biden seems to do the same thing in terms of experience.

Why do we vote? Most Americans chose Hillary, but she wasn’t even considered. Now are they going try to tell us our vote matters. If Obama proclaims to be a uniter than why didn’t he unite the party. I guess our politicians know more than the voters. The voters chose Hillary. You can bash Hillary all you want, but more voters chose Hillary.
