A Baby Toe in the Water
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — who feels she can be leader of the free world, but apparently fears her press corps — did take a question on AIG in Cleveland, Ohio, this morning — the first time she’s taken a question from the traveling press.
Asked what she thought of the AIG bailout, the governor said, per ABC News’ Imtiyaz Delawala, “Disappointed that taxpayers are called upon to bailout another one. Certainly, AIG, though, with the construction bonds that they’re holding and with the insurance that they are holding; very, very impactful to Americans, so you know the shot that has been called by the Feds — its understandable but very, very disappointing that taxpayers are called upon for another one.”

For what does it say?
Other than very, very disappointing…
Poor Palin. What does SHE know?

Construction bonds? WTF?
No one who’s well informed was worried about the insurance units of AIG — they are regulated, well-capitalized entities. It’s the unregulated Financial Products thats chockfull of derivatives that is the concern.
My mom could have given a more relevant answer.

What’s it been 2 weeks, she has been up to her eye balls in left wing BS, adjusting to her new role and you are upset that she didn’t jump in the pirana tank without taking time to adjust. I don’t blame her one bit for taking her time..with the VERY obvious media bias.

As I understand this deal – AIG has about $1 trillion in assets. The Fed handed them a bridge loan for $85 billion. Now, the key word of this is “loan” and if they default on this loan, the Fed gets 79.9% of AIG worth about 10x what the loan was for. Not only that, but the loan has an 11% interest rate on it.
Now, that actually sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
A bailout – actually giving money to AIG so they can stay afloat – I would consider to be different from what this is.
Admittedly I haven’t been watching this with any detail, so if I’m mistaken, please correct me.

Even Sarah Palin is brave enough to take a position on AIG. Where’s Obama? Too busy taking quotes out of context for smear ads to bother articulating a position on the biggest economic story of the week?
Posted by: Samuel | September 17, 2008, 9:40 pm 9:40 pm
Lay off on Sarah. She can see a bank in her town!
Of course that doesn’t change the fact that she was one of the worse mayors in America, starting construction on a ice skating rink that was supposed to cost 3.9 million dollars — on land that belonged to someone else!
The owner of the land in question was a private citizen named Gary Lundgren. Palin’s carelessness resulted in a $1.7 Million settlement. The total cost ballooned to $15 Million!
This is the Sarah Palin’s legacy in tiny Wasilla, Alaska.

Palin is running scared whenever the press confronts her. They don’t need to earn her respect, SHE has to earn the respect of the press and the people if she wants to lead the free world. We and the press owe her absolutely nothing. Why should she feel so entitled?
The truth is, she is afraid of the press because she knows so little about the issues and foreign relations and the economy that she would be making ten gaffes a day if she spoke to the media freely.

I think everyone agrees about the mismanagement. But I can’t for a minute believe that McCain, and Palin, who’s getting waaaay too much press and attention for a #2, want more regulation. Neither the Republicans nor McCain have EVER wanted more regulation – quite the opposite, as shown in so many public statements. This is just their convenient stance of the moment. There’s too much history to believe this one. As for her taking questions, if you can dish out smart-aleck, juevenile comments in your speeches, you need to stop hiding behind daddy. Put up or shut up. Tell us something of substance, or get lost.

Gov. Palin did a great job on the first part of her interview with Hannity tonight. His ratings are going to be through the roof and tomorrow night as well. I really don’t care how she “performs”…85% of Americans know who they are voting for now…top of the ticket….it’s the 12% undecided that will be swayed by debates.

Sarah Palin — who feels she is ready to be leader of the free world was asked what “specific skills” she could cite to rebut critics who question her grasp of international affairs,
The “specific skills Sara Palins cited: “I am prepared.”
“I have that confidence. I have that readiness.”
She also said
“And if you want specifics with specific policies or countries, you can go ahead and ask me. You can play ’stump the candidate’ if you want to, before she turned Mccain jumped in to save her.
Hopefully the MCcain campaing will find her some Cliffs Notes to memorize, like they did to prepare her for the Charlie Gibson interview, in case she is ever asked for specifics again.
Because even a politician that thinks she should be treated with “deference”, really should be able to cite at least one specific.

I am outraged that Sarah Palin wants to be our next VP…possibly even President??? I am a 40 year old mom of 2 small children currently working from home. I have about as much experience with my Bachelors degree in Education to be president as she does. I am angry that she thinks she will have the time and energy it takes to raise a family…obviously a family with special needs, not just one baby with special needs. I feel so sorry for her kids as they will get hammered in the press and have no chance for a normal life. Go home Sarah.

Isn’t it much safer just to carefully craft a public image and try to avoid having anybody discover who you really are and whether you have any qualifications to potentially be the leader of the free world.
Especially now that the press has started calling out the politicians on their lies much more than they did in 2000 and 2004. Best to just coast for the next 6 weeks and then it will be too late for anybody to do anything about it.

Peltier – What’s the question – AIG offers insurance and surety bonds to construction companies, architects, contractors, etc – from small to big. If contract work isn’t completed within terms, AIG bond would provide funds for penalty/relief/etc. So, impact from AIG going under (without fed buyout) would be that the construction industry, already in trouble, would lose the backing of the bonds, and any state/municipality/business/homeowner would have little financial recourse in case of default/nonperformance.

In a joint appearance, the Republican presidential candidate said defensively: “She has been commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard. Fact. On September 11 a contingent of the guard deployed to Iraq and her son was one of them so I think she understands national security challenges.”
Mr McCain asserted that as governor of an oil-producing state Mrs Palin had “obvious knowledge of the energy security issue”, which was of vital concern to the US.
In her first question and answer session with voters since her shock selection as vice-presidential nominee, Mrs Palin had been asked by a member of the audience if she had the necessary foreign policy experience to be vice president.
She answered confidently: “I am prepared and I am confident. If you want specifics on countries you can play ‘stump the candidate’ if you want.” The questioner however declined the offer.
Its become quite sad.
First off McCain repeats the lie about her being CiC of the AKNG as national security experience when she had nothing to do with national security.
Then Palin offers to name all the cabinet members of Nigeria.
Its like a bad rerun.
