If this holds McCain will win, since if i remember correctly Missouri went blue last time, the ones under Obama were Blue already, other then Ohio which Missouri will wash!

Polls overwhelmingly say McCain is the one they trust to protect the country from terrorist.
Obama wins on the economy but has lost ground.
It doesn’t make sense really. If we aren’t safe who cares about the economy?
If we can’t trust Obama to be strong enough to keep us safe how can he be trusted to take care of our economy?

Let’s wait for the real polls when McCain comes out of hiding from the press and also allows Palin to speak to the media on a regular basis.

Biden’s comments yesterday about Hillary being a better choice may be setting the stage for his exit.
He has not helped BO with women, independents, or Catholics. And has probably hurt him more than helped.
Saying Palin was a step back for women probably lost BO a few more votes.
He sure made BO’s judgement look pretty bad by making those comments.

Va will be interesting to watch since it’s never been in play before. I think Fl will go to McCain and Pa to Obama. The rest are too close to call right now.

Polls, polls, polls. The perfect “fix” for adrenalin junkies. Here’s what I’ve learned about them based on recent articles and blogs:
1. Polls query PAST registered voters based on PAST elections, not CURRENT registered voters based on the UPCOMING election. Question: So if, say…more African Americans are now registered, or more youth are registered in comparison to the last election…are they currently included in these polls? Don’t think so.
2. National polls vary greatly re: the percentage of REPUBS, DEMS, and INDEPENDENTS polled in each survey. Question: So, if, say…yesterday’s poll included 4.5% more Repubs than Dems in comparison to the survey taken the day before, is this even factored in? Don’t think so.
3. Based on what I’ve been reading, it appears polls don’t even use, as their guiding post, current breakdowns of the % of registered Repubs, Dems, and Indies in a particular state that’s being polled. So, if, say…a state’s current registration of Dems is at 38% of the electorate, there’s no guarantee 38% of those polled will be Dems.
4. Of course, we all know that WHEN you conduct a poll (time of day or night) will make a difference in the kinds of responses you get, as will the way in which a question is worded, which candidate’s name is mentioned first, etc.
Readers: If I’m wrong about any of this, please enlighten me. But…if this all really is true…yikes. Why are they even published? (And why do they receive headlines no less?)

spock,
You are forgetting about Ohio. Ohio was foolish enough to go for bush/cheney twice. Hopefully this time Ohio has grown wiser and will not vote for a bush-3 term. Obama/Biden 2008!!!

McCain is peaking in the polls right now and Obama leads in Ohio and New Hampshire, two states McCain must win. Good news for Obama.

I look at this presidential race as good versus evil. Obama represent good and McCain represent evil and what is wrong in America politics. McCain/Palin ticket is trying to sell the American public on lies and I’m appalled that they think they can get away with it. I’ll definately be voting for real change this election year….and that is with Mr. Obama.

Spock – you remember incorrectly. Missouri was not a Kerry state. If Obama wins all the Kerry states, plus Iowa, and 2 out of NM, Colorado and NV, he wins, even if he loses NH (a Kerry state). So he can win w/out Ohio or Florida.

It doesn’t make sense really. If we aren’t safe who cares about the economy?
—————-
It makes perfect sense. Obama is the BETTER leader to handle international relations.
Americans polled actually said that a potential terrorist threat is not a primary concern. The “perceived” threat has never been as great as the reality. The Republicans used the fear to push their own agenda. (Orange alert, yellow alert, red alert, TOTAL BS) And it basically worked for eight years.
It was on GEORGE BUSH’s watch they we got attacked. It is BUSH’s war that has escalted the hatred toward our country. McCain is 100% the same as George Bush in Inernational politics. His “vision” will not make us safer!
Has the war in Iraq made us safer…ABSOLUTELY NOT! Neither will John McCain.

I still have the timeline I got from the London Times right up to the attacks showing where our security was in JULY 2001 The FAA and the Coast Guard were put on alert JULY not August folks They took the lives of those thousands of Americans and others in their hands when they ignored those warnings their minds were out to lunch and they had butterfingers.

ABC (inparticular) has Gov. Palin under intense scrutiny in her home state. ref: “Trooper Gate” report by Brian Ross on this morning’s GMA.
As a conservative Democrat, I have no propblem with this, but we need equal
information about Obama’s relations with sweetheart deals with David Axlerod, (his campaign manager) and
millions in earmarks arranged by Obama, for a project headed by William Ayres,
who bombed the Pentagon. Come on ABC,
you don’t look good!

I will be amazed if Obama wins in Missouri. Most of my friends are Democrats, and most of them are voting for McCain. Missouri is overwhelmingly Catholic, at least in St. Louis County. They vote pro-life. Much of Missouri is made up of small, rural towns with populations less than 15,000 – the same people Obama insulted in San Fran. Missouri never votes for left-wing candidates. It might be close, but McCain will win in Missouri. (Spock, you are wrong. Missouri did not go blue last election. Missouri went for Bush in 2000 and 2004).

Okay, McCain is someone I could deal with but Palin, she is a right-wing extremist.
Sorry folks but I would rather vote for OBAMA/BIDEN ’08.

As a VA resident, I can tell you the number of Obama signs in heavily populated northern VA (including around the Pentagon in Arlington and in DC proper) outnumber McCain by about 10 to 1.
Seems the people who actually work in our government want a new direction. President Cheney politics has worn thin there.
However, the southern part of the state (next to Tennessee and Kentucky)and by Norfolk (navel bases)is more-or-less ideal McCain territory. Southern VA is the start of the Bible belt voters for sure.
Central VA is a toss up. Charlottesville – heavily Obama. Go over the mountain – McCainville.
VA has traditionally been Red, but the Dems have a chance this election though. There’s a huge number of newly registered voters that will most likely vote for Obama – and they are rarely factored into the polls. College kids and young voters may very well decide the outcome of this election.

Claude Gray:
Ayres DID NOT bomb the pentagon, he was a protester…that’s it.
But you would like to say that since Obama knows Ayers, and Ayers belonged to a political group, and that political group had a fringe element, and a few members of that fringe element bombed something – that Obama basically supports bombing the Pentagon?
Well I can link him to Kevin Bacon in seven steps or less!

Yet ABC doesn’t show the other polls out this week
McCain up 7% in Ohio.
Not that it matters. Just like Obama people put lawn signs out. Who cares?

For all the news reports of the hand wringing by the democrats, it looks like Obama is doing reasonably well on the electoral map.
It will be interesting to see how Palin responds to questions from Gibson without the assistance of a teleprompter or a minder.
The biggest question of all is will Gibson be the sort of pitbull we saw when ABC moderated the democratic debate in Philly, where he got all upset at the possibility that Obama might raise the capital gains tax.
We shall see. If I for a moment detect that Gibson is being deferential, I’ll throw my show at the TV and watch something meaningful, like The Simpsons.

As an independent I am voting for Obama. We’ve had republicans in the white house for 8 years. This country needs change desperately. McCain was running on experience. Now with Palin he’s running on reform and change. I honestly don’t see any change with him. Not when he voted with Bush 90% of the time. It’s all a smokescreen to get elected. That’s why all the Rove attacks on Obama. McCain doesn’t want to discuss the real issues that face this country because he has no solutions. Palin is too conservative for me and I feel McCain chose her to appease the conservative base. If he was a real maverick he would have chosen Lieberman like he wanted to. It shows he buckles under pressure. Anyway I do hope the dems take over this election. To me that would be the real change.

Dave in Virginia: “As a VA resident, I can tell you the number of Obama signs in heavily populated northern VA outnumber McCain by about 10 to 1.” Dave, I wouldn’t judge by sigs on yards. I know people who are scared to put up a McCain sign or put a McCain sticker on their car, and scared to tell pollsters they are voting for McCain. These are mostly older voters. I can assure you that in the privacy of the voting booth, they will vote for McCain, as will many of the supposedly loyal Democrats saying all the right, “pro-Obama” garbabe.

Before Team Obama continues its attacks on Sarah Palin for at one point voicing some general support for the Bridge to Nowhere, the presidential hopeful has some explaining to do. Let the record show that Barack Obama himself voted for the bridge at least twice, as did his running mate Joe Biden. If Team Obama is to continue to point out that Palin was for the bridge before she was against it, they either must explain why Obama and Biden never denounced the project or, on the other hand, describe why they were in error for supporting it.
Posted by: amy | September 11, 2008, 11:36 am 11:36 am
I agree Carrie, I know several African Americans who are voting for McCain and they are totally silent about it except to close friends. I have tried to tell them NO Obama for me, yet they continue to try to convert me. It is really scary.

I live in a close-knit retirement condo community in St. Louis – mostly white, conservative, Catholic. I serve on my condo board, and I know every single person in the section I represent. These people, Democrats and Republicans, support John McCain for president, yet there is not one single McCain sign anywhere to be found in this complex. I’ve not yet spotted a McCain sticker on a car. I wouldn’t go by polls, by yard signs, or anything like that. Missouri is going to go for McCain. I don’t have a doubt.

Sarah Palin is a liar. She continues to lie about the “bridge to nowhere”, and who knows about how many other things. Fact is we know almost nothing about her, and what we do know is pretty outrageous. Why is the GOP keeping her from the press? What are they hiding? Do we really want to put a big question mark a step away from the White House? And what does it say about Mr. McCain that he would pick a religious extremist as vp when he considers them the “agents of intolerance”? Is this a flip-flop, or worse, do votes trump ideology for Mr. McCain? It has to be one of the two.

Obama’s lost years were in question in the FOX bio on him, in the early 80′s when there were no records of where he was living. Sometimes in the street is what I gathered. His druggie friends from those days declined to be interviewed, but they had one of them on film by his bike in a helmet smoking and staring at the camera. The two guys from Pakistan had their faces blurred. Strange days for Obama, some of those college years…no one to speak on behalf of his character, ever? I know these are his drug buddies, but did he not have one friend or teacher from these early 80′s?
I can’t vote for a guy who only has his half sister he lived in Indonesia with for a few years, and his wife, to speak to his character.

“Palin will make it so Hillary and her supporter (sic) will be blamed if Barack loses.”
Yeah, Obama losing couldn’t possibly have anything to do with himself. Or his vicious supporters. Or the clueless, corrupt Dem leadership. Or the idiotic Dems who keep making outrageous statements in order to “help” The One.
No, it couldn’t possibly be any of that. Let’s blame it on the women – Hillary and Palin.

If Obama wins, he’ll run again in 2012. That means 2016 for Hillary to run. And Obama supporters have already determined that 72 is too old to run, so I’m sure Hillary will be too old at 68.
What else ya got?

I’d love them to break away since they were treated horribly by the thug Chicago Obama political machine. Screw them. I thank Hillary for all the sexism she withstood during this election and now maybe Gov. Palin will benefit from our EYES BEING WIDE OPEN to it.

Eight years ago, complaints about *charging rape victims for medical exams* prompted the Alaska Legislature to pass a bill — signed into law by Knowles — that banned the practice statewide.
“There was one town in Alaska that was charging victims for this, and that was Wasilla,” Knowles said.
Palin was the mayor of that town…

“Alaska and Russia share a border. The US-Russian maritime boundary zigzags down the Bering Strait between the Asian and American land masses.
Alaska and Russia are less than 3 miles apart at their closest point in the Bering Strait where two islands, Russia’s Big Diomede Island and Alaska’s Little Diomede Island, are located. In winter it is possible to walk across the frozen Bering Strait border between these two islands. At its closest, the American mainland and the Russian mainland are 55 miles apart where Alaska’s Seward Peninsula and Russia’s Chukotka Peninsula reach out to each other.”

As a observer from a far off land (Canada)I can say that the fact that you people voted for GWB (twice) was kinda pathetic – I mean really that boy wasn’t bright. Now I am relived to say you will be voting for a candidate who was powerless to take on the coruption of the Illinos political system, voted “present” for most of the time there, attended a racist church or 20+ years, bought his first house with the help of Tony Rezko, was friends with William Ayres, his mentor was Rev. Wright, most questions are above his pay grade, makes TV interviewers feel tingles up their legs, took 3 interviews to get the Russia/Georgia conflict correct, he will very well sit down with supporters of 9/11 to find some middle ground, supporters (1 million on his speed dial)are college students (same ones who welcomed leader of Iran to come hear and spit in your face)- Obama is apparently the only likeable lawyer in the WORLD….and anyone who votes for him is vote to go from the frying pan into the fire.

WoW. This is the greatest news I heard in a while. People forget that it’s the state polls that matter not the popular vote polls.
This great news for the Obama camp. With Ohio in the mix Obama leads 293 to McCains 245.
Lets not forget Virginia and Nevada. The Obama camp registered 42,000 people in Virginia last month and there are polls out this past week showing Obama leading by 5 in Nevada (red state).
I see a landslide.

John McCain, ranking Republican on the Armed Services committee did not attend a single hearing out of 6 held on Afghanistan by his committee.
The McCain comment stems from an Oct. 31, 2005, appearance on the Charlie Rose talk show on PBS. He was asked about winning in Iraq. After discussing issues confronting that country, McCain concluded: “Afghanistan, we don’t read about anymore, because it’s succeeded. And by the way, there’s several reasons, including NATO participation and other reasons, why Afghanistan is doing as well as it is.

Obama’s tax plan will increase taxes significantly for those earning more than $600,000 a year, by 5 – 8%, even though they will pay less to the govt than they did under Ronald Reagan.
For those earning less than $250,000, your taxes go down.
Anyone in between, you pay only $12 more in taxes.

“More of the Same”
McCain, supported Bush politics, 95% of the time. What make you think he has changed? He chose Sarah Palin as the possible, President of the U.S.A., was the thought behind this, Country First.
After the brain-washing she will be allowed to speak…then we will know, or will we?
However, it wouldn’t surprise me, if she resigns once the election is over, if they win… What a ploy…Values and honesty and Country First, are not high in this party politics.
I forgot, Values and
Righteousness and Country First, is high priorities. But, why would he choose Sarah Palin?
Who would replace Sarah Palin, if she resigns or is booted off the ticket….I blushed, I thought it might be Chaney. Insuring that we have “MORE OF THE SAME”.

Both houses was taken over by the Republicans in 1994 they brought real reform to country which lead to boom I agree Clinton plaed a roll in it but don’t make it sound like it all of his policies that did it
Remember the president present a budget to congress and then they start to debate it Also Clinton was a moderate He believed in free trade he even fought the liberal side of his pary and had one hell of a economic advisor I feel that if the liberal side of the dem had stayed in office and Clinton had to work with them this country would not have prospered the way it did.
Obama either lied during the primary or he lying now because now he want to portray himself as being in the middle Some one going to be upset if is elected either voters on the far left or the one in middle The only way he’ll get reelected in four years is that he govern from the middle If he govern from Nacey P position the dem will lose it all in 4 years which will be good for the republican I don’t care what you make his taxes increase will effect you. You may get more back on your returns
As far as Mccain goes if the people in middle think about he’ll govern from the center because that is who he is Why else do think the republican wasn’t excited before the VP nomination

Democrats, please answer:
- Do you really think that the withdrawal of our troops from Irak will make us safer? they will be sent to Afghanistan. Obama wants to increase our soldiers there.
- Do you really think that rising taxes and government spending will help taxpayers and improve the economy? less money for people to live with.

PLEASE EVERYONE DO CHECK SARAH PALIN OUT. SHE IS PRETTY, SHE GIVES GREAT SPEECHES, SHE IS WOMAN – BUT PLEASE REALLY THINK WHAT IS IMPORTANT.IS SHE WHO SHE CLAIMS TO BE. I FIND SHE IS NOT!
OUR COUNTRY IS IN A DISASTER. I CAN’T TAKE ANOTHER FOUR MORE YEARS OF THE SAME. THIS LATEST MOVE BY MCCAIN PALIN TO SWITCH FROM EXPERIENCE TO “CHANGE” IS BOGUS.

riley: I don’t think it was Biden, Palin took the celebrity status from Obama who never thought this will happen. Now he needs Bill and Hillary Clinton because he can’t catch ground. I thought he was suppose to be so intelligent graduating from Harvard. It appears you can go to college and still be dumb.

McCain & Palin:
Two irrelevant candidates of
no consequence. On the fringe -
not what we need now.
McCain marginalized himself into
a nonentity when the recent
troop withdrawal timetable
was accepted by President Bush.

Mr. Taper, with Hurricane Ike approaching Houston, TX, I may be a bit late on the discussion.
I would like to go back to your post of 18 June, 2008 “Obama Up In Swing States; Clinton Would Be a Drag with Indies”
Obama camp may used similar analysis of “losing the independent voters” on the decision of not picking Hillary Clinton as. Unfortunately for Obama, many independent voters specially white women are moving to McCain-Palin ticket.
No surprisingly the latest Quinnipiac Polls in PA, OH, and FL show how Barack Obama is significantly underperforming John Kerry’s 2004 numbers by 14 and 16 points (-XX)*among independent voters, while losing many Hillary Clinton supporters.
Pennsylvania: Obama 48% to McCain 45%
PA: Obama 44% (-14)* to McCain 45% among indep.
(PA: Kerry won 58% to 41% among indep.)
PA:Obama 72% to McCain 22% among Clinton supporters
Ohio: Obama 49 to McCain 44%
Ohio: Obama 43%(-16)* to McCain 47% among indep.
(OH: Kerry won 59% to 40 among indep.)
Ohio: Obama 65% to McCain 28% among Clinton supporters
Florida: McCain 50% to Obama 43%
Florida: Obama 43 (-14)* to McCain 50% among inde.
(FL: Kerry won 57% to 41% among indep.)
Florida: Obama 69% to McCain 24% among Clinton supporters
Losing many Hillary Clinton supporters after not picking her for VP, Barack Obama must match John Kerry numbers (-xx)* among independent voters to win in those states.
