Beating the Press
Mike Huckabee says the media has united the conservative moment — saying that press coverage is "tackier than a costume change at a Madonna concert." (He still has a way with words.)
The Huckster is reading from the GOP talking points on this one — I can’t tell you how many Republicans, including high-ranking McCain aides — are walking around this convention telling reporters how much their reporting stinks.
But how often has the beat-the-press strategy worked?
And this line hurts: "She got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, than Joe Biden did running for president of the United States."

Obama Backs Off Birth Control Battle?
woah, what a great line! I sure hope it’s true. I am a liberal Democrat-leaning woman who is so outraged by the press/public treatment of Sarah Palin that I am cheering her on. Not sure I want her/McCain to win the presidency mind you, though I keep thinking that at least a Democratic Congress will keep them in line. But the treatment of this woman has been horrific. Someday a book will be written of the press role in the election of 2008; the incredible favoritism/bias shown to Barack Obama and the vitriol shown Sarah Palin. Then, at last, I’ll be able to say, “I told you so.” But by then it will be too late.
For shame, for shame.

Based upon his Madonna comment, Huckabee is evidently a sexist elitist! Howard Gallas, Reno, NV.
Posted by: Howard Gallas | September 3, 2008, 10:05 pm 10:05 pm
This is just a continuation of the same sexist attitude that was displayed towards Hillary. For sure, Hillary Supporters will be one of the deciding factors in this election and we won’t be voting for Obama.
When the movie comes out, along with the books, it is going to show how the Good Old Boys Club operated by the DNC along with some brainwashed women (Pelosi and Brazile), successfully kept the most capable person (Hillary Clinton) from being the rightful Democratic presidential nominee.
They then turned their sexist, smear tactics to the other woman in the presidential race.
The Republicans have said Palin will not be another HRC. I believe them.
Obama, it is your turn to get played.
PUMA!

here’s a comparison of their experience, side by side.
980 – 1984: Him: Ivy League degree. Her: tiara
1985 – 1990: Him: sterling legal education. Her: sportscaster.
1991 – 1995: Him: Expert on our nation’s fundamental legal principles. Her: plotted to leave the Union; thinks Pledge of Allegiance was written by our founding fathers, doesn’t know what a Vice President does.
1996 – 2000: Him: sponsored 800 bills. Her: swayed 616 voters.
2001 – 2004: Him: demonstrated the wisdom to oppose the Iraq folly before it even began.
Her: hasn’t really though much about Iraq – despite the fact that 17 Alaskans have died there
2005 to present: Him: Impressive figure on the national stage who knows how Congress works and is engaged with foreign policy issues.
Her: small state governor for 21 months; “next to Russia”, but that is just 1 of the 190 countries in the world she has never been to.
Conclusion: the word “executive” is not some kind of magic force multiplier when placed in front of the word “experience”.
sure we can. after all, 0bama never claimed to be a governor. he IS, however, and excellent senator.

What’s Giuliani’s problem with “community organizer”. Many priests that he’s sucking the fingers of in public are “community organizers”.
The republicans could actually just discuss the issues instead of insulting people in that faux mockery. God I wish I never voted for McCain in 2000 – if I had known what he’d become…

I think the focus should not be on Bristol, it should be on the family values of Sarah Palin. What kind of mother would subject her daughter to that sort of national scrutiny at such an emotional time? Sarah Palin also has a four-month old son that really needs his mother’s attention. It seems to me that her career and ego are more important to her than her family.
Poor NeoConnies, all the kings horses and all the kings men can’t put their party together again. Ms Palin is a total mess and no amount of shaking their pom-poms or whining is gonna make it go away.
McCain’s first wife was a 1.Beauty Queen, no substance. He cheated on her and his children with many women while his wife was crippled and trying to recover from a bad crash.
Mccain lies abouts his age to meet another 2.Beauty Queen while cheating on his wife, files for a marriage license while married and still living with his wife and kid’s.
Now McCain pick’s another 3. Beauty Queen who is turning out to be the biggest bust in the World of VP choices.
WHAT IS IT WITH MCCAIN AND BEAUTY QUEENS.. THAT SHOULD BE A GOOD AD TO ATTACK MCCAIN AND SHUT THIS DOWN. BALL GAME!!

This is the man who made that absolutely disgusting joke about Obama knocking over a chair to avoid being shot at. As the stomach churns…The republicans can shove it where the sun don’t shine. And as for the pumas, well, one has to excuse their naivete. They don’t know any better. Just wait. If the republicans get in and abortion rights is no more, they will discover a horrific world they didn’t know existed. They have no idea…Hey pumas – go see the movie “Four months, three weeks, two days” and get a taste of what it’s like for a woman who can’t get a legal abortion. You fools.

You and your family values. LOL. Good luck on the shot gun wedding for Bristol.
Palin hired a lawyer, lol!!
It’s okay. She’s a Republican. She’s allowed to break the law.

BUT THAT WONT WORK RIGHT, OBAMA? CAUSE IT IS NOT CHANGE YOU CARE ABOUT, IT IS THE PRESIDENCY YOU COVET ..
IF YOU DID CARE FOR CHANGE, YOU WOULD HAVE BROUGHT LOTS OF CHANGE BY NOW IN ILLINOIS AND IN THE SENATE .. ALL YOU HAVE DONE IS TALK ABOUT CHANGE, TALK THAT STARTED ONLY AFTER YOU STARTED RUNNING FOR THE PRESIDENCY …
IN MCCAIN/PALIN, I SEE CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN … NOT NOT YOU.
INDEPENDENTS, 28% Hillary supporters, PLEASE JOIN ME IN HELPING MCCAIN/PALIN WIN IN NOVEMBER … COUNTRY FIRST …

Perhaps rather than living in fear they’re more interested in getting the economy back on track, tackling the deficit, getting a first world healthcare system, and actually tasking our troops with finding Bin Laden. But glad you’re enjoying your textbook perpetual war. I guess the drug war, swat team in every town just didn’t take away enough civil liberties for you to “feel safe.”

Have to admit Huckabee was kinda charming. I don’t agree with him, but he has some good one liners. But, both Palin and Giuliani were inappropriate and extremely partisan when people are desperate to come together. Rudy literally made fun of our desire for hope and our desire for change. He and Palin ridiculed Obama’s entry-level job as a community organizer fresh out of college, saying it amounted to having zero, nada, nothing responsibility. The crowd laughed. I don’t think organizing the elderly, the uneducated, and the otherwise most vulnerable to achieve basic dignity is funny. I grew up in public housing with no father, and the only positive male figures in my life were the sincere volunteers, members of clergy, and community workers like Obama. A community organizer helped me and about 25 other classmates achieve scholarships to attend school out-of-district so we would get at least a basic education. I traveled over an hour each way to get something most people take for granted. It is for that reason and that reason only that I was able to later attend college. When people were dying from asbestos and lead poisoning, Chicago community organizers were there to resolve this issue and save countless lives. That’s hilarious, right Rudy. The city once put a posting in our public housing complex that read: if you are unable to transport a loved one’s corpse to county facilities, please call this number and put the body by the side of the road for pickup. No joke. Freaking side-splitter, right Sarah! When the elderly were dying without the dignity of basic services, Obama was there. When voting rights were being taken away, community organizers were there. I don’t think saving people from dying is doing nothing, and I don’t think it’s something to make fun of. You too Palin. How many lives did your PTA bakesales save. Sarah Palin’s speech is pointless rhetoric. We’ve learned nothing

I’m a republican women from central PA -i find the Palin choice highly problematic as do many of the people in town I have spoken with. We so quickly forget, due to our sympathies for the women, that she is precisely what McCain is supposedly against (far right zealots, pork, earmarks (highest per capita of any state), questionable ethics, duplicitous character). Not to mention the fact that she isn’t speaking to the media – why not step into the light and face the questions and get it over with with honest and integrity????
in the end, I believe her appointment is extremely divisive and, in fact, it brings down the party (catering to a base that is only tiny fraction of americans) … as the great Peggy Noonan said “it’s over.” I will be casting my ballot for the Democrats for the 1st time in my life.

I guess the only thing the Elite Media should do – is stay home.
Or perhaps not go to the Republican press conferences, or their staged photo ops, or their home town meetings. Just stay away.
They don’t want the media asking questions – fine. Don’t ask. Don’t tell. Don’t even show up.
Let’s see how far Republicans get with only Faux News and the Daily Show reporting on their activities.
