Biden Chokes Up in Steeler Country

ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe reports: The story about the car accident that killed Sen. Joe Biden’s first wife and daughter in 1972 is well-known, but in his speech today in Greensburg, PA, an emotional Biden described a gesture by the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers that left a lasting impression on him and his two injured sons.

Last month in Pittsburgh in an impromptu run-in with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and just last week in a stop at Canton’s Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee mentioned how former Steeler Rocky Bleier brought an autographed football to his two hospitalized boys, Beau and Hunter, in Wilmington, but today, an introduction by Steelers owner Dan Rooney caused the memories to once again come flooding back.

"I’m sorry to take your time, but Mr. Rooney reminded of this, Dan reminded my by just seeing him," Biden said. "They wouldn’t let me bring a Christmas tree in, understandably, into the hospital, because of concern about fire, so I went to K-Mart to get a synthetic tree that would, you know, so I’d be able to bring it in and have something there at Christmas for my kids."

"I don’t remember precisely, it was either the 23rd or Christmas Eve Day, I’m not sure, I think it was the 23rd, while I was, one of the few times I was away from their bed for a couple hours," the Delaware lawmaker recalled. "I came back and they, they looked like they had lighted up like Christmas trees. My one little boy was in traction and the other little boy had a seriously fractured skull and they were happy, and they each had separately, they had a football in their beds…"

At that point, Biden paused, with the whole high-school gymnasium silent as the senator choked up behind the podium.

"Excuse me," he said, as the audience then filled the silence with applause.

"Anyway," Biden continued. "I said, ‘Guys, where’d you get the ball?’ and they said ‘Daddy, Rocky Bleier gave it to us.’"

Art Rooney Sr., Dan’s father, had sent Bleier, the Steelers fullback, to Wilmington to present the young Biden boys with a get-well gift.

"Mr. Rooney Sr., Dan’s dad, had, without any fanfare, without, without any announcement, without anything other than his incredible decency…," said Biden, trying to continue but stopping again to wipe away his tears.

"I really apologize, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have tried to do this, but anyway…"

More supportive cheers came from the crowd as the senator caught his tears with his handkerchief.

"It’s a helluva family, it’s a helluva family," Biden stated.

"And as I said when Dan introduced me to his son, I said an expression my dad used to have, I looked at Dan’s son and I said, ‘If my dad were here, he’d say, ‘kid, you got good blood, you got good blood.’" And they’re good blood. The Rooneys are the finest family in American football and we’re lucky to have them here in southwest Pennsylvania."

What does his family’s accident or football in SW Pennsylvania have to do with the Presidential campaign? Sounds like Biden needs people to feel sorry for him—–
STICK TO THE SUBJECT BIDEN. Do you remember what that is?

HEY! I don’t like this Biden story. I am going to suspend my campaign.
Maybe if I hold things up long enough they’ll cancel that Palin debate which is really buggy the heck out of me.

Oh, I don’t know Keeshawna… maybe it has something to do with illustrating the decency of mankind? The fact that the Steeler’s owner introduced him?
I think that would certainly remind me of that noble gesture, and I would want people to know how much such a gesture was appreciated.
Your assertion that this has no place in the debates is no different than the McCain camp bringing up his POW stint. Yes, we all respect him and are thankful to him for serving our country.
But being a POW does NOT qualify you to be President.

“At the height of the Vietnam War, Bleier was thrust into combat early and was seriously wounded when his platoon ran into an ambush. Receiving wounds from both rifle fire and grenade fragments in his legs, he was barely able to walk and his professional football career seemed to have ended before it began.”
Joe Biden should be ashamed of himself for allowing his team’s supporter to trash someone with a story similar to Rocky Bleier’s.
For more than two years, he drove himself. Little by little he overcame obstacles and fought his way back. He not only made the Pittsburgh Steelers, but also eventually became a starting running back on a team that won four Super Bowls and became the greatest football team of the 20th century.”

Biden has heart, that’s what it means. Something Republicans are usually lacking. Democrats tend to show caring for fellow human beings and gratitude for random acts of kindness. I tell my Republican friends that they can’t be true Republicans because they are nice, its so rare that you meet one that is. Why is it that so few can say something meaningful and nice about someone else? You’ll hear them talk about their own adversity and how they “overcome” more often than you’ll ever hear them thank someone.

This is the third time Biden has cried since being appointed VP candidate! CAN YOU IMAGINE IF THE TABLES WERE TURNED AND GOV. PALIN CRIED? My God, this man is a joke and I’m sick of all the football stories…maybe he should get into Broadcast Journalism and report on Sports, like Gov. Palin did when she was just out of college.
Joe…enough already….just get to talking about your good friend John and what a great American he is.

But, thetruth, if you deride the statement “the fundamentals of our economy are strong” you are actually trashing all American workers. If you deride McCain saying he knows nothing about the inernet or e-mail you are making fun of his service, his capture and his injuries. Jake Tapper made the latter point very clear.

Posted by: geevill | September 25, 2008, 1:17 pm 1:17 pm

Debra.. yea, let’s hear it for Palin today with Katie Couric:
Couric: You’ve said, quote, “John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business.” Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?
Palin: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie – that, that’s paramount. That’s more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us.
Couric: But he’s been in Congress for 26 years. He’s been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more.
Palin: He’s also known as the maverick though, taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he’s been talking about – the need to reform government.
Couric: But can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you’ve said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this?
Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.
Couric: I’m just going to ask you one more time – not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.
Palin: I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring them to you.
Enough said

I am a little skeptical about this story being a lifelong Steeler fan. Why would Art Rooney send Rocky Bleier to do this in 1972. At that time, Rocky was a very little used running back (only carried the ball once in the 72 season and three times in the 73 season) who was twice cut by the Steelers due to his war injuries. He didn’t gain his fame until several years later (post 1974).

On Friday night, when Obama and Biden met Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh, Biden recounted how “Old Mr. Rooney” — Steelers owner Dan Rooney — dispatched some players from his championship team to the hospital room in Wilmington where Biden’s two toddler sons, Beau and Hunter, were recovering from the accident. They brought the boys an autographed football as a Christmas present.
Before it was unnamed “players”
Now it is just Rocky Bleier.
What “championship team” did the Steelers have in December 1972?

come on people – let’s keep focused on the main issue – enough of petty picking at candicates for things they have no control over. The good old USA is the biggest mess I’ve seen in my 75 year lifetime. Due to the GOP and its big money politics….the prime mortgage meltdown and the current financial crisis is a direct result of former GOP Senator Phil Gramm’s sly maneauvers in getting his bill to deregulate the financial markets passed as a “tack on”. And…this man is one of McCain’s advisors !!!!! Obama may be somewhat inexperienced but I’ll bet he knows the price of bread, milk and gasoline. I doubt if McCain does. This lifelong Republican (former) will be voting DEMOCRAT in the upcoming election. It’s time for change in DC…I encourage you young voters out there to study the issues and make a wise decision when you vote in November.

This is an incredibly petty and unimportant news story. Tell us about Biden’s record and his positions on issues. Don’t feed us this vacuous nonsense.
We have been in Iraq a lot longer than WWII. Our economy is being destroyed by plundering oil companies, banks, and investment firms. Our water is filled with toxic chemicals. Our air is polluted. Global Warming threatens to put highly populated areas of the country under water.
How about some real news? Is that really too much to ask for?

He said he wasn’t sure if it was the 23rd or Xmas Eve day.
The balls were signed by Bleier. I don’t hear Rooney and Bleier saying it wasn’t true.
Bleier’s stats show him playing in all 14 games. He returned a couple of kicks also, so was probably on the special teams unit as a lot of backup players are. Probably mostly blocking for Franco during the minimal time he was in the backfield. Just like people in Philly knew Vince Pappali was a walk-on, people knew Bleier’s story and what he had to overcome just to be on the field and make the team.
So, Zehfuss and Geevil, get a life.
p.s.–what does “and they had to play the next week in Miami” got to do with the price of moose meat in Wasilla? Why on earth would that stop him from visiting the boys on the 24th? Numbskulls.

Maybe you don’t like Biden but he had a pretty crappy thing happen to him and managed to pick up his life and move on. He does not say things like I can’t remember how many houses I have and that doesn’t matter because for 5 years I had no house. He can get emotional about it, his wife and daughter died. He lied back then and continues to lie big time, not only about those injuries, but, about everything in this campaign!! What does McCain being a POW have to do with this campaign? Bravery?? Umm, he was known as the “Singing Canary” for assisting North Viet Nam and betraying his comrades, the Navy, and the United States of America. McCain, in truth, is a yellow coward!! And a liar!

A very touching story. Joe Biden held his family together after a grievous tragedy. I come from a family where most of the men have bailed on their wives and children. The mothers for the most part have gotten all of their children thru college and graduate school by themselves with no financial assistance. My dad was there for me. The way Senator Biden stood up during those nightmare times says a lot about him as a man. All of us are flawed. However, I would take him any day over Sara Palin. I admire the fact that she has raised many children. I particularly hate the way she treated Chief Monegan, her Public Security Chief. This man was a good cop for almost 30 years, a chief of the Anchorage Police Department for five years and a Marine. She threw him to the wolves because he refused to fire her brother-in-law. A wonderful policeman saved me from certain death once. I greatly respect all of the good ones. Isn’t divorce hard enough for men and women without have the Governor weigh in and pull her dirty tricks? Think about all the men who demand equal protection during custody proceedings and are not getting it. What about that old Golden Rule?

I don’t think that people who truly love ever “get over” losing someone that they love. Over time, I think we heal. It sounds to me like Rocky Bleier just did what any decent person would do. He had an opportunity to bring some love to a couple of kids. The campaign trail is long and hard. We are so close to the candidates, we can almost hear and see them breath. I wish people would start responding to the candiates instead of reacting to the sound bites. I am a card carrying liberal who sees no problem with regulations that are really checks and balances. We all need concrete accountablity. deantopa

Republicans posting attacks on Biden on this story? All this proves, once again, is that the party of Lincoln has become the party of reactionary extremists ( Hannity, Savage, Limbaugh followers ) who would spit on the American flag if the republican party told them to do so.

Reality: No one knew who Rocky Bleier was in 1972. He played his rookie season for the Steelers as a 16th round draft pick, in 1968. He then went to Viet Nam where he was injured. He tried to come back to the team in 71 and 72 and was cut twice. In 1971 he rushed one time for 17 yards and had one fumble. December 23, 1972 was the Immaculate Reception game in Pittsburgh. The RBs that game were Franco Harris and Frenchy Fuqua. Rocky did not gain his “fame” until he started in the 1975 season. Not even the most die hard of fans would have known who Bleier was in December 1972, especially not two little kids from Delaware.

Independent American Woman,
How you can use this story to attack McCain’s time as a POW is way beyond comprehension. I can read this with compassion and not hatred because I don’t believe in his politics.

In light of the subject here (concerning Biden’s tragedy) I will continue to ignore responding to negative posts about him and keep it positive.
Joe really is a good guy. If you want more reason to dig him see the links I posted above. I am proud to have him as the VP cadidate on the Democratic ticket.
I have followed his and the other 3 candidates careers for years; his and Obamas came up a lot in conservationist circles as advocates for the environment. Good on them! The other two names came up quite a bit as well but I won’t go there in this thread… I was excited when he was announced as veep candidate. The more I read about Biden the more I like the guy and the same goes for Obama.

In reading the posts questioning the truth in this story….I REALLY hope this isn’t a topic that he would toy with. We can maybe overlook the TV in 1929 comment, but this would be way over the top if this is false.

Another reason to like Obama,
While campigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence until after the election.

I’m just happy two of them lived! Its still tragic that he lost his daughter and wife. My brother lost his only daughter, and it shapes him man! My brother still had a young son in middle school and if he didn’t, he might have just given up. We are blessed that Biden’s two sons survived. Biden might no longer even be with us.

Zehfuss, you genius, are you suggesting that two kids who are in a hospital bed and then a pro football player signs their ball, ANY pro football player (let alone a Steeler from their favorite team), aren’t going to be excited, aren’t going to keep reading the signature over and over again and tell their Dad when he comes in who signed the footballs?
Again, get a life.

Yep, the more I read the more I like him :)
Be sure to read the whole thing – making sure not to miss:
“In fact, Obama had told the Iraqis that they should not rush through a “Strategic Framework Agreement” governing the future of US forces until after President George W. Bush leaves office, she said.
In the face of resistance from Bush, the Democrat has long said that any such agreement must be reviewed by the US Congress as it would tie a future administration’s hands on Iraq.
“Barack Obama has never urged a delay in negotiations, nor has he urged a delay in immediately beginning a responsible drawdown of our combat brigades,” Morigi said.
“These outright distortions will not changes the facts — Senator Obama is the only candidate who will safely and responsibly end the war in Iraq and refocus our attention on the real threat: a resurgent Al-Qaeda and Taliban along the Afghanistan/Pakistan border.”
Last Tuesday, Bush announced plans to remove 8,000 US troops from Iraq in the coming months and send 4,500 to Afghanistan by January.
Obama said the president was belatedly coming round to his own way of thinking, but also accused Bush of “tinkering around the edges” and “kicking the can down the road to the next president.”

Well here is a story from August 29, 2008. World-Champion Steelers????? 1972? some players??? Cowboys were defending Champs. Dolphins won the next two. Not even close. This has to be in 1975 or later. As someone posted before Bleieir was not known until then.
Biden is a liar. He is putting this incident back to right after his car accident. exploiting a personal tragedy with his lies. SAD.

Geevil: This will be my last post, because you are just too tiresome and some of us have a life.
The article you mention says:
Before Obama came out, Biden told Tomlin that after his wife and daughter were killed in 1972 and his sons were hospitalized, “Old Mister Rooney” had some players from then-world champion Steelers bring an autographed football “to the hospital in Wilmington, Delaware with a signed football for my sons” as a Christmas present, “and I have been a Steelers fan since that day.”
First of all, it is the reporter saying that they were world champions, there is no quote that Biden said it. Do you know the difference between a quote and the reporter’s words? Or do you think everybody is as dumb as Rethugs and won’t notice? And don’t you think, even if Biden said it, that he might just be referring to them as champions, many years later, because they were champions, who cares when?
The quoted portion is entirely consistent.
I’ve already refuted your silly argument that Blier had to be a famous player for Biden’s sons to get excited or tell his father that the man signed the ball.
When Rethugs have no answer for an argument, they just ball up their fists and bang on the table. Keep banging away, I’m signing off now, bye.
See you at the Obama/Biden inauguration, fellas.

Although Biden said he was a Steelers fan in a meeting with the team’s coach Mike Tomlin on Aug. 29, he later said in a Sept. 8 visit to a Green Bay bar outside of Lambeau Field that he’d been a Packers fan since grade school.
Today, he added three more favorites to the list — the Eagles, the Colts and the Giants.
As he looked at the jersey of former Philadelphia Eagle Reggie White, Horrigan said he had heard Biden was an Eagles fan.
Biden said yes, adding, “I used to be a Colts fan before they moved to Baltimore. He can’t keep his lies straight, The Colts moved FROM Baltimore.
I guess it depends on what city he’s in what team he is a fan of.

Obama’s Bridge to nowhere?
ENGLEWOOD IS EYED FOR BOTANICAL GARDEN
Chicago Tribune. Chicago, Ill.: Jan 15, 2000. pg. 5.
A group of politicians, school administrators and community activists unveiled a plan Friday for a $1.1 million botanical garden in the city’s Englewood neighborhood.
The proposal calls for a walk beneath the “L” tracks on Princeton Avenue, from 59th Place to 62nd Place.State Sen. Barack Obama (D-Chicago) said he planned to seek state funding for the effort and estimated that ground could be broken in early 2001.The proposed garden also would include a gazebo, a parrot sanctuary and a walk of fame.
Obama gave $100,000 in state money to a campaign volunteer who failed to deliver on a plan to create a botanic garden in one of Chicago’s most blighted neighborhoods.
….. what was supposed to be a six-block stretch of trees and paths is now a field of unfulfilled dreams, strewn with weeds, garbage and broken pavement.
Kenny B. Smith, whose nonprofit group got the money, said it was spent legitimately, mostly on underground site preparation. But he admitted Thursday that the garden is a lost cause because other government money never came through.
….. Smith — an early Obama supporter who gave $550 to his state and congressional campaigns — said he gave his paperwork documenting the work to a state agency and no longer has it.

Joe Biden should be ashamed of himself for allowing his team’s supporter to trash someone with a story similar to Rocky Bleier’s.
When McCain ran in 2000 I was still an Independent. I was horrified by what Karl Rove et al did to him and told anyone who would listen that trashing such a fine man and voting for the weasel who slandered him was unforgivable. As you have probably noticed John McCain has not only forgiven Mr. Bush but literally embraced him. I have never wanted anything in my life so badly that I would be willing to whore my ideals so while I still respect his service I do not respect John McCain. He trashed himself long before anyone else did.

I believe in a strong military and national defense: I am pro business: I am fiscally conservative: I have liberal social values.
Let’s follow the money and clear up some misconceptions about the Republican Party.
The Republicans are fiscally responsible? Under the last eight years of Republican leadership, the National Debt has doubled from $5.5 trillion to $11 trillion. That’s a phenomenal increase for an economy only valued at $14 trillion. Assuming we don’t want runaway inflation (also a tax–like what the weak dollar does to gasoline prices); there are only two ways of dealing with this debt–paying it off or borrowing more. How does that work for your family? You’re in debt; what are your options? Pay it down by spending less (the deficit>$400billion this year and >$440 billion next, No–we’re not spending less). Pay it down by increasing the public income (higher taxes). Or you can borrow more to keep the lifestyle. Republicans want to keep borrowing. It doesn’t work for your family and it doesn’t work for our nation. We are living way beyond our means. The Republicans are very, very liberal spenders of public monies. Ultra liberal. So don’t tell us how you are against raising taxes–this ultra liberal spending amounts to leaving our children an impossibly large tax burden to pay. ‘The Democrats are tax and spend’, they say: the only thing worse is the ‘borrow and spend’ Republicans. I have no respect for anyone who votes for not pulling their own weight and for sloughing off debt for our children to pay. No wonder we have our first generation which doesn’t believe their lives will be better than their parents.
Imagine going back eight years–we could have spent the $5.5 trillion and made Social Security solvent, had universal healthcare, protected our borders, upgraded our military, invested in renewable solar and wind energy, invested in our energy grid and infrastructure, we could have funded research into genetically engineered switchgrass and still had plenty left over.
The Republicans are for free markets?…’Government out of the economy’ was their battle cry. But the government has always been in the economy and in a big way. Not only does the government print the money; it also makes the rules of the game. The Republican way to make money is not by generating wealth; it’s to cannibalize other Americans by slanting the rules through lobbying–Farm Bill? get subsidies for corn so ADM can profit on ethanol; mortgage securities? Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac spent $180 million on lobbying and $20 million on direct campaign contributions over the last ten years to get these mortgage securities. Wall Street made profits from fees selling them to each other and the world. What was this quasi government entity lobbying for? That’s Republican economics–the profits are privatized and the losses are socialized. That’s not a free market. The Republicans gave $32 Billion in taxpayer money to JP Morgan to buy Bear Stearns; the AIG bailout, the Fannie and Freddie bailout: because, we’re told–they’re too big to fail. Don’t worry about the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac CEOs–they received $7 million and $11 million exit payments. That’s crony capitalism (‘Did you get yours? wink wink nod nod). A Chinese national told me, ‘You Americans are free–why do you put up with that? In China they’d be in the salt mines for the next twenty years.’. Thanks to Republican leadership, our financial system is now communist. The financial institutions cry, ‘Don’t regulate us–you’re throwing out the baby with the bathwater’. But there is no baby and there is no bathwater–it’s a stinking swamp that needs to be drained.
Looking to McCain for economic prowess? He hires Gramm to be his chief economic advisor and to interact with the editors of the Wall Street Journal. Gramm calls the American citizens a ‘bunch of whiners’. Of course, we’re supposed to forget that Gramm’s wife sat on the board of Enron as it collapsed (saddling taxpayers, of course). McCain, like all Republicans, has championed de-regulation (really, regulations that help their campaign contributors). Again, the profits are privatized and the losses are socialized. The way to regulate is to set fair rules; don’t spend a lot of money enforcing them. When offenders are found–>hard labor in a salt mine. Our system only works when there is trust that the system is fair.
The Republicans are strong on national defense? This is arguably the worst Commander in Chief in our nation’s history. He kept telling us that failure is not an option. When failure is not an option then every contingency needs to be covered. Bush-Cheney-McCain-Lieberman had none of it covered. It was a questionable call to attack another country (which is why the WMD story was propagandized); but, even so, if you’re going to do it–do it right. Was the surge the right strategy? Four years and many $100sB too late. You go in, knock off Saddam, Uday and Kusay and then you get out. Dismantling the Iraqi army was a huge mistake. As they fight each other–we back the losing side until it stalemates and they agree on a democracy/power sharing. Muqtada Al-Sadr is going to wait and become a Nasralluh The Republicans have weakened our military by squandering trillions that will be needed for our future national defense.
How did we go from being the most united since Pearl Harbor after 9-11 to so polarized now? The Republican playbook for winning elections–throw enough mud until some of it sticks; divide and conquer. Just because Sarah Palin promotes her high school friends to positions way beyond their skill set in the labor market and harasses opposition bloggers for exercising their constitutional rights–that doesn’t mean she’ll commit treason by betraying our troop positions or outing our CIA agents. Even if McCain dies and Palin takes Rove and Cheney as advisors; that doesn’t mean she’ll be pressured into another war. But who could blame her if she felt in over her head?
Of the three hurricanes that hit the south; one of them canceled day one of the Republican convention and the last one slammed into Texas–maybe God was trying to tell you something. The Republicans have to be thoroughly defeated for mismanaging the country.
Can the Democrats fix it? Wishful thinking; it is very broken. There are systemic problems. The day of reckoning is nigh– the next trillion we spend better be put to very good use.

I think he was sincere. He’s running in a presidential campaign.. everything ANYONE says or does is weighed and calculated before they make a move. Biden’s history of gaffes should make it a bit more obvious that, out of the four, he’s the most effluent and sincere.

You haters that are leaving these terrible comments have no class. Biden has a career framed in integrity. He’s not a Bull-Shi**er!
Oerhaps McCain could tear up about being a poor student, a citizen of Panama, Cheating on his first wife for years, abandoning his girls, being an alcoholic and smoker, voting against civil rights, supporting deregulation, failing at making rank, being reckless with aircraft, lying to the people, or just plain out being a fake!
Now thats what I call classy. Sorry to detract from the story Mr.Biden, but my fellow wanna-be pundits think they have a point.

What a man. Seriously. And anyone who asks, “What does this have to do with the presidential campaign?” has some serious reflection to do. Aside from the obvious, which is that he was reminded of the story by the man who introduced him, Joe Biden understands that humanity is what this is ALL supposed to be about. And, OBAMAMAMA, how true what you said. I believe Obama and Biden actually give a rip about people like myself, who in spite of having a decent job, are struggling to build a future.
If you believe McCain/Palin care more about the poor, the workin’ folk, and middle-income people more than Obama and Biden, then you are seeing the world through a filter that can’t be reasoned with. I believe the choice is so clear; I just can’t understand how this race can even be close to close.

Some things are bigger than partisan politics, like human decency and an ability to connect with other people. A generosity of spirit can transcend vitriolic bickering and make people remember what is important in life.
We can disagree about politics but still remember to treat each other with some dignity.

FROSTWHITE: I guess you’re not evolved enough to show emotion. Or understand it. He didn’t ‘pick’ that moment and rehearse it with an acting coach. The moment picked him and he shared a part of his life with us. Give me one example of a moment when we felt we saw deep into Palin. Any vulnerability there? No. But, in her defense, she has a lot on her mind with the investigation and all, her utter lack of knowledge, her inability to speak to the press, all the personal hits she has taken, her lies being exposed, etc. It has got to be tough.
But this also speaks to an important point. Biden has been around long enough and is comfortable in his own skin. He knows who he is. And he’s not afraid to show us. Therefore, I feel I know him and can trust him.

Posted by: steve | September 25, 2008, 7:53 pm 7:53 pm

OK I said last but uh… you people are twisted. If this story had come out about anyone else (Not democratic) you would sympathize. Shame on all of you who put him down. Facts: he did lose his wife and daughter. Give it a rest. If you want to debate lies then look to your own camp first where sadly Rove, Fox, and conservatives have shown distaste for what’s going on in McCains camp. And guess what, I liked McCain ALOT before this candidacy.
You sicken me. When it comes to someone’s loss and tragedy you will only sympathize when it’s one of your own. I will have compassion either way. You will, based on your religion or slant, be judged acccordingly, based on your actions.
This man (Biden)has done ALOT and has lost A LOT, A LOT mind you. I have dealt with similar and in this spot, agree or not, could see how hard this can affect people. You are all selfish to your own goals to say this man is not sincere and you are a shame to us and the rest of the world who may read this. This is ridiculous. After I lost to the 9/11 attack at the Pentagon – you tell me I am not right. After I have lost significant family through my life and still feel it you tell me I am not right.
There is a time and place for your anger but in voicing that Biden is not right to feel sad for his loss or is wrong about his memories is so inhuman that you have no right to even post.
I loved McCain before all this. I loved him because before this election he was a man on the right path but he has succumbed to the party’s politics. Still, him suffering as a POW and with a crashed plane, I still love him and feel for him about that. I thank him even. If you friggin people cannot give someone respect of his deceased then you do not deserve to even talk here, even if the the friggin constitution gives you the right. The constitution does not tell you you have to shut it. I says you can talk and talk which many of you do but guess what, maybe some discretion and respect and caring should be written in because the way people abuse the right to be total jerks should be banned. If someone you love was lost how would you feel? Get over it fast or carry it for a long time, especially when it’s your kid AND loved spouse? Shut your mouths already and fight in another freaking article because this is not the place for it. Grow up and grow a heart. Who the heck here dissed those you choose to support based on loss of family? You are small, small people if you really have to read the headline here and come to complain about it.

Open letter to Biden:
Returning to the subject brought here:
Joe Biden, I hope you get this someday cuz homey, I love ya. You keep it up boy because many people DO love ya and your boys and your first wife (and second, thanks for bringing him back to us Jill, Woman! And thank you for putting the future first by being a teacher) and your baby girl. Dont listen to those who hate you due to politics because they do so out of anger. You just keep talking and telling, and many love and honor you. Dude, I cannot listen to you without feeling that you are one of us, the majotiry who live in this USA. You are a true American however anyone wants to slant it, you are true. As is your running mate, Barack.
I love your honesty and integrity. I don’t care about your “gaffes” because it shows you are unscripted and talk from your heart, which I do as well. If based on “gaffes” I’d be in trouble too. You are real. And we all know what you mean when you do so, but some want to make it out as somethingg else.
I love that, when looking at your record, no one can dispute you because you have held your head to what matters to people and made yourself available.
I love ya Joe, because you are America and what it stands for. You are the right that makes it all ok because you will try to fix it. You are me and your family is mine, and you are what we need. You and Obama, you make the dreams of America seem true, not lip service. Your visions are what keeps us going, not deceptions. You are what I aspire to be, true leaders. Thanks from the bottom of my heart and what I teach my kids. Thanks for giving us this dream and hopes that it can all come true. I am trying to not mention any other names and show how they have made my American (born and raised ) dreams nothing but dreams, but you and Obama make me feel there is hope. Thank you Joe and Barack, I can go on another day thinking there is a future. I love you both. Good hopes for your futures and your beliefs for us underdogs. Who, in my place, couldn’t love ya?

Geevil I hope you get osteomyelitis.
You don’t MILK the story of your dead wife and 18-month old baby. You’re a jerk. And all your “quotes” are straight out of bullsh*t city. Go back to school and get an education, major in something that gives you the ability to have such strong opinions. My bet is the only qualifications you hold are a high school diploma and hours watching the O’rielly Factor. I’m certain that all your education is based on what you’ve heard, and not what you’ve learned for yourself. Go read a book.
Oh and if you’d like to attack me DIRECTLY here’s my email, so you can stop wasting the time of this pseudo-political board and have a real debate with someone who knows enough to make you feel like an ignorant fool. So do your research big man, then drop me a line and let me know how much you DON’T know.

Every single interview or speech I have seen of Joe Biden he is angry, course and down right out for blood. This obvious attempt to display a human side deserves an award. If he can’t control his emotions at a debate how can people say that a “woman” can’t be vp huh?????
